So, apparently, an adult supervillain whose been terrorizing a city for years, rarely actually shows remorse for his actions and is also a neglectful and controlling parent because of the “death” of his wife is “sympathetic” and “redeemable”
but a teenage girl whose a bully because she has an abusive mother who constantly belittled her and can’t even remember her own name that she so desperately wants the approval of and a father who just spoils her to death, who showed remorse for her actions at times and was actually on the road to changing and becoming a better person after becoming a superhero before it was taken all away from her at the last second is “irredeemable” and “absolutely evil”.
Thomas Astruc’s logic is absolutely ridiculous.

I've said this before, but it's actually so twisted to give one of the only other characters with an abusive father an Endeavor fixation, and then use him as a tool to redeem Endeavor.
Like?? Horikoshi didn't have to do that to Hawks. He could have given Hawks any other backstory and it wouldn't have changed anything. But to have him idolize Endeavor for catching his dad, make him prop Endeavor's development, and then have him set aside the fact that Endeavor was actually worse than his dad?
(Not to mention, it feels like Hawks has no agency throughout the whole series. He was forced into being a child soldier/assassin and still follows the HPSC's orders the whole time. We don't see any internal conflict with this like we do with Lady Nagant. And to top it all off, he has no negative thoughts about the hero he looked up to being an abuser? Like, Horikoshi couldn't spend a panel talking about it??)
Am I the only one who thinks that's kind of fucked up?

Dabi's disabled pretty boy swag and twunk rep really blinds y'all to his actual personality. He's never even looked in Hawks direction with anything but 'Your vibes are beyond rancid, you're growing black mold' energy and his cluster b ass has too much self-worth to date him after him going full cop complete with an inaguration speech on his first best friend slash situationship, that being Jin,he's a straight edge punk specifically,he loves Rei and his siblings with his whole heart and soul but thanks to Enji the world ruined him too much for even him to realize that,he's Red Hood-adjacent and The Joker is a less than nothing character compared to him,he's part south asian for other reason than i feel like it,he's closer to Himiko than he is to Shigaraki,Momo would've fixed him and he would've made her worse in a found siblings way where the older one is also a pseudo-parental figure because that's the natural order of being an eldest and Shouto and them would've been a trio if Horikoshi knew how to write women and abuse stories like a decent person. And that's on reading comprehension and writing experience

I find it weird that MHA kinda attempts to say that Twice’s death was wrong, even though it really wasn’t.
Like, I like Twice but that MF would’ve absolutely ran everyone into the ground. Twice had his chance at redemption but ultimately sacrificed it in favor of loyalty to his group.
Also, TF was Hawks supposed to do in that situation? Just step aside and say: Sure, kill thousands of innocent people and possibly put the world into anarchy, have fun sweetie 🥰
Hi @palesweetscherryblossom ,
My opinion on Twice's death is that narratively speaking, it shouldn't have happened.
But he needed to be taken out of the story for there to be any stakes for the villians. I just wish Hori had Hawks capture him and put him into custody alongside Compress.
You are right when you say Twice could not be allowed to run amok because with his power, he is a one man army. He is OP!
But I like Twice.
I view him as a more redeemable character than the villian characters that MHA keeps trying to tout as redeemable (Toga, Dabi, and Shig.) Since Twice was the way he was through a mix of bad luck, poverty, poor mental health and a lack of support plus he seemed to genuinely care for the LOV and Hawks which is up for debate with some of the other characters up for redemption (Dabi and Shig.)
I am of the opinion that Hawks could have been able to capture Twice if he really wanted to.
Remember how, with his speed, he was instantly able to capture that flasher when he was with Endeavor? He could have easily at any time caught Twice unaware and alone since Hawks knew Twice deemed him a friend. Yet Hawks chose that moment to mock Twice, corner him, injure him and reveal his hand as a traitor. Why?
Surely, as a spy and a seasoned hero, he should know that Twice would see that as a betrayal and become enraged. He also was a spy for long enough that Hawks should know that Twice would not accept any offer of 'redemption' just for himself at all - especially not if he had to betray the friends he cared for to get it.
You could argue with Dabi showing up the situation immediately spiralled out of Hawk's control - which it did.
However, why didn't Hawks try to kill Dabi in that moment, the active threat and the logical choice to kill in self defence, rather than the villain running away from him?
This is because I believe that Hawks always intended to kill Twice in this moment.
I also believe that the offer for Twice's redemption was merely as a way to make himself look better in the recording Hawks was taking of the showdown rather than a sincere offer on his end.
If it had been sincere, Hawks would have delivered the redemption offer in a way where Twice would have been more ammendable to it - possibly when he was already behind bars and recieving therapy.
TLDR - No, Hawks couldn't allow Twice to run amok with the villains. However, he could have captured him if he really wanted to. Yet Hawks didn't want to because he wanted the threat of Twice's double quirk eradicated.
The regret for this decision as well as the ramifications of it should have been a core part of Hawks character along with him re-evaluating the HPSC's teachings and what being a hero really means to him.
But Hori wastes the potential of what could have been an interesting character / interesting character arc to prop up Endeavor and his "redemption arc" instead.

Just thinking about Them ......how neither ever had a MOLECULE of internalised homophobia. Right from the start, neither could be convinced to feel guilt or shame for their nature. Not by their family. Not by religion. And not even by the Government.
How much courage they had, to hold on to this dignity, this persistent self belief that they are valid, and deserve happiness even if they are never allowed it.
How both chose, radically, to live their lives and pursue happiness despite it all.
Just thinking.

I've decided that I will be blowing up the Steddie tag starting Monday with Rovickie since a lot of y'all still insist on replacing Vickie with Nancy as the girl of Robin's dreams, try to come with bullshit about it all you want but you fuckers know they don't make a lick of goddamn sense. I'm feeling pretty petty, yes, because I'm fucking sorry but we finally get a bisexual woman who would more than likely understand Robin's relationship with Steve who would understand Robin's quirks and who hasn't slept with and cheated on Steve?? And what? She gets tossed in the trash for a girl who obviously wants nothing more than to focus on school and her career?? Nah, gtfo. Nah, you're just like the Duffle bags trying to force Nancy into a relationship she clearly wouldn't want to be in. She doesn't want to be with Steve, not really. She doesn't want to be with Robin. Hell, she doesn't even want to be with Jonathan. She clearly wants to focus on school and why the fuck can't she do that? Why does she have to be put into another romantic relationship that is once again built on trauma and drama? Why can't life be a little simple for them for once? Vickie is perfect for Robin, and yeah, she's boring to you, but it's what they need. And if it's boring that Nancy isn't in a relationship and just wants to focus on school, well, good. They fucking deserve boring. It's fucking annoying to read yet another goddamn Steddie fic and then BOOM R*nance. No, they would NOT make a good couple. Eddie wouldn't think they would at all. In fact, he would probably be protective of Steve over that. I tried to be nice about it, tried to hold it in but fuck it's disheartening to think that so many of you think that Robin Buckley would date the woman who her best friend probably once claimed was the love of his life. Well, guess what assholes? Try as you might to deny it, you know that Steve Harrington is the platonic love of Robin Buckley's life, and no way in hell would she ruin that for a girl. Even if she DID have feelings for Nancy, she can move on and fall for someone else. People can fall for more than one person. She still wouldn't do it even if Steve said it was okay because if Steve is expected to set his feelings aside, then so should Robin. We don't have to worry about that, though. Robin would think the idea was disgusting, and she would never have feelings for Nancy in a million years.
You know, I probably wouldn't be this twisted up about it if a lot of you would just fucking acknowledge how fucking weird and awkward it is to date your best friend's ex instead of ignoring it. I've been in that situation. It weeeeirddd. I also wouldn't be this twisted up about it if some of you wouldn't somehow make Vickie the bad guy in order for your ship to make sense. (One of you had Vickie r*pe Robin??? What the fuck's wrong with you??) Anyway, JUSTICE FOR VICKIE.

I know I'm beating a dead horse here, but It's really funny how Horikoshi writes characters that seemingly only exist to be cheerleaders/mouthpieces to his favored ones. What's even funnier is how divisive these favored characters are.
Izuku - He's the main character and he does have a personality, but he's never allowed to grow beyond his "Kacchan is the best" mentality, despite it literally being painful for Bakugou to actually call him by his name instead of 'useless'.
Present Mic - Pretty much only exists to show that Aizawa supposedly isn't a bad person, despite Aizawa canonically not treating him that good.
Aizawa - Exists to show that "Bakugou's totally a good guy!" despite him having expelled students for much less. It's REALLY not a good look for Aizawa as a person that he wants BAKUGOU to be the No. 1 Hero.
Hawks - Is ride or die for Endeavor, despite him being a domestic abuser and an all-around douche.
Rei and Fuyumi - Minimize the negativity Endeavor has brought into the family's lives and violate the boundaries and feelings set in place by those not favorable to Endeavor (though this last one is soley on Fuyumi)
The frustrating thing about these characters is that there are the building blocks for more nuanced characters there.
Izuku could gradually come to the realization that the way Bakugou treats him was never okay and leave him behind for the sake of his own healing.
It's all but stated Hawks latched onto Endeavor as a replacement for his own abusive father - have him see and fully realize that Endeavor was no different from his dad.
Hori brushes over the parentification Fuyumi underwent as a result of Rei's hospitalization and Endeavor's neglect - just fucking give her SOMEONE to take care of her, as well as someone calling her out on pushing her feelings onto her younger brothers.
I don't really know with Rei, but I guess just have multiple people reminding her that not only was the abuse she suffered never okay, but Endeavor leaving her favorite flower is the bare minimum of apologizing.

Disclaimer: I didn't put Nathalie's redemption arc because she was the only redemption arc in season 5 that felt somewhat deserved. I didn't put Sabrina's redemption either because the writers didn't count her change as redemption because in their eyes she was innocent. I didn't put Andre because he was more of a corrupt businessman and terrible father than a villain. I only put Gabriel and Felix because their redemptions caused the most controversy, especially with Chloe's side with the fandom.

I want Hawks slowly realizing what being a spy really means for his morals when Toga is so excited to tell him that's she's finally happy to have a family that loves her, that would accept her for who she is and not judge her quirk. The hero seeing the League adore their youngest member and coming to the realization that he'll be the one to rip her new family from her hands, being the villain in her story.
Hawks meeting her after the events of the war, broken and shattered without the hints of the bright girl he had come to known a year before. Because no one was left. Every single member of her family was either rotting in jail or six feet below the ground and the only one left is the hero that doomed them all.
