#he boils it down to sasuke just wanting revenge for itachi

saw an screenshot about a very old post about naruto and it summarized sasuke as “sasuke the one who chooses hate” and it made me pause because the way that just never happens. even when he “chooses” hate is actually him choosing love. sasuke leaves the village and most of the audience boils this down to him choosing hate because he prioritizes his revenge but they forget that sasuke is literally unable to commit the key action that would help him kill itachi. he leaves in the night without telling anyone, the thought of killing naruto for the mangekyou does not cross his mind there and only comes to him when he’s shoved in a position in which he has to fight naruto. which he did everything to tried to avoid. and even then in the end he can’t go through with the killing when he has the chance. he chooses to follow another path that isn’t what itachi told him, itachi who’s one of his most iconic scenes is telling sasuke he doesn’t have enough hate and never will. and it’s probably the only time he’s right about sasuke. and sasuke actually proves this by walking away without killing naruto because his love for naruto is stronger than the “hate” he feels for itachi. he chooses love. he does it once again after finding the truth about itachi when he immediately puts aside everything itachi did and embraces the love he has for his brother. the love he has tried to erase for years and was never able to because the brother itachi was before the massacre still lived in his memories constantly even when he was told it was all a lie. and with accepting the love for itachi he had tried to kill comes accepting the grief that drives him to want to attack konoha but again, the hate he feels for konoha doesn’t measure to the amount of love he has for his brother because the second itachi comes back and sasuke is able to get some honesty out of him, his plans change again. then everything comes down to the ending in vote 2 and the story showing sasuke choosing love one last time…
i just i don’t understand how anyone can say sasuke chooses hate when his clear choice is always, always love

Literally it’s so sick how if sasuke had gotten a little more time with Naruto, a little more time to heal and feel loved again, the entire series would be different because he would’ve handled itachi differently. That truly is one of the three biggest changes in the beginning of naruto that sets off all the chain of events that it ends up as. The first one is sasuke discovering he’s willing to die for naruto. That he loves him. There was that strong, and new bond and emotion, and then his brother came back and another strong emotion came back, his vengeance. (And third is the curse mark obviously). And then it got all twisted up because itachi threatened naruto. He goaded sasuke into doing what he wanted because he was able to immediately recognize how sasuke cared for naruto. And he sought to snuff it out. He attacks naruto and sasuke gets pissed. So now he has to very strong emotions: his new blinding love and his old boiling revenge. And sasuke is only a boy. He is only 12 years old, he doesn’t have the emotion capacity to feel that much, to hold such strong things inside him at the same time. And itachi makes him remember. Remember his rage, his pain, his sorrow. And sasuke is young so he can’t handle such pain, not so soon after barely overcoming it. Most people wouldn’t be able. So his rage takes front and he has to fight. He has to get strong and defeat itachi because he stands in the way of his happiness. And then everything happens. He discovers he has the power to take down his brother, to do what he thinks will solidify his happiness. He’s young and naive and quickly learns otherwise but by that point he’s in too deep to stop.
It’s just wild. The levels to sasuke’s emotions is insane.

[ @suck-my-tomato | Halloween Party Oneshot | verse; highschool ]
It was their senior year at last, and Kimiko was not about to let it go to waste. The rest of her high school years had been spent either too insecure to show a little skin, or not single enough to get away with it without some disapproving stares. The tail end of junior year, along with the summer that followed, was spent in a near-lifeless haze: she’d become well accustomed to depressive dissociation and avoidance to the point of self-destructive isolation. Meanwhile, Sasuke likely had the time of his life as a bachelor in the paradise of their recent split: that is, until his chronically-ill brother took a lethal turn for the worse.  Upon hearing about Itachi’s sudden death, Kimiko had lassoed herself back into Sasuke’s orbit  — Invited herself inside ( she never returned the key to his apartment ), ensured that he was taking care of himself in lieu of his recent loss. Additionally, it felt like a loss of her own, too. She’d known Itachi as long as she had known Sasuke, for obvious reasons. As odd as it sounded once her feelings became obviously romantic for the younger Uchiha, Itachi felt like.. a big brother in-law. After all, he bailed her out of her holding cell after she’d caught Sasuke cheating with that bimbo redhead from chemistry. It was a wonder why he kept the kind of company that he did; the run-ins she’d endured over the last few months since her split with Sasuke had soured her to the whole ‘Akatsuki’ gang. Just a bunch of sleazy womanizers.  It’d been quite a few months since that had occured, and Kimiko and Sasuke were growing steadily more attached to one another, once again. Not nearly close to the way they were, before the letters ( still unknown to Sasuke ) and his decision to plant the seed of everlasting insecurity within her by betraying her trust for the opportunity to mesh face with someone new. For a short while before Itachi’s death, Kimi had arrived to parties solely to keep the recently hotheaded Uchiha in line. She was his designated stormbreaker, and was expected to deliver him home safely each night that he took things a bit too far. Those incidents didn’t come without their rewards, such as the few instances in which he’d cling to her in his drunken and drug-addled stupor, apologize profusely and confess his everlasting love.. Just to slip away into sleep seconds afterwards.  Admittedly, Kimiko would entertain the heartache of such a prentendedly wholehearted and pure moment before ultimately lapsing to silent tears and peeling herself from his side to take her quiet leave from his shared home. More than a few times, Itachi and the Tamashi would share a quiet and lingering look across the front room. Now that he’s departed, Kimiko often wishes she would have sat next to him and allow herself a single shred of comfort from the situation she’d found herself in. His stare had always been a little somber: Like he knew all of the things that she was shoving beneath the surface. Was this going to be her lingering reality? Harboring this blood-stained secret, playing guardian angel to a haphazard boy whom broke her heart but didn’t manage to drown her love? Perhaps she should’ve asked the wise Uchiha Itachi, before it became too late. Even if she grew back what was left of her mauled heart to learn how to forgive him, Kimiko knew now that a life of romance and love was never going to be the same, for her. Not with old memories dredged back up and spot-lit like fresh wounds, vague yet promising threats from her imprisoned and somehow still imposing father appearing two more times since that first letter made it to her porch step. Sasuke had changed faces and become someone new overnight; he squandered all of his previous promises of her being his one and only  — and it elicited a violent response that her father had only just forewarned her of inheriting. Perhaps this was just her destiny, after all.  Tonight would be different, in a sense: Kimiko was attending this senior year halloween party solely for herself. She wasn’t trailing in on Sasuke’s colonged scent, nor was she couped up at home until the siren call came and beckoned her to act as ‘Sasuke Uchiha clean-up crew’. She was here to cook up some fun of her own, solely for herself.. Which is precisely what she had told herself at the last party she attended three weeks ago for ‘Homecoming.’ That night tumbled away into a mess of limbs beneath trashed bedsheets: Sasuke and Kimiko had once again found the most intimate form of comfort in one another’s arms, for the first time in.. 8 months. Tonight would be different. Or maybe it wouldn’t. Did she actually just put all of this effort into her costume for the hopes that it would catch his attention above any other girl there? Was she hoping for a similar end to this mixed-bag night as the last party lured them to?  Perhaps. It was mostly for herself, though. Yes, the tight black latex zippered corset, a pair of short spandex that clung to her hips and ass like it was life or death, the heeled boots that cut off just below her knee and the tights that squeezed her curved thighs just at their most voluptuous circumference.. The feathered black wings attached to her back and the headband horns adorning her crown .. All the way down to her perfected makeup, the dark tinge to her lips and the dash of gloss at the very center.. It was all for her. Not to grab the attention of anyone who bothered looking her way, and certainly not to make his jaw drop. Once again, her phone buzzes from its place stashed between her breasts. With a sigh that exhales the last puff of her menthol cigarette, ( thank you, Shikamaru ) Kimi plucks the it from her corset and unlocks the device. A strange twist of disappointment curls her stomach when the texts popping up were just from the girls. Perhaps it was a tad childish to wish upon a ball of gas in the sky that Sasuke would reach out to her: provide some sort of hint that he was interested in seeing her tonight — that he wasn’t already wrapped up in some other nameless skank.  Instead, it was just Ino and Sakura, buzzing at her ear like flies and wanting to know ‘ Where the hell ’ she was. They made plans to pick her up, but Kimi had different plans for herself. Already outside the party house, the fallen angel runs out the cherry of her pregame cigarette against the side of a white Prius. It belonged to one specific redhead from junior year chemistry class. If she knew what was good for her, that bitch would keep a healthy distance from the Uchiha, and a restraining-order distance from the Tamashi herself. The rest of her flask is guzzled with little more than a post-swallow wince: the fire of honey whiskey lit her back to life. She’d shared swigs with the passenger seat of Ms. White Prius — poor decision to leave the windows open a crack. Now that her confidence was rightly bolstered by liquid courage and her anxious insecurities settled with those two cigarettes, Kimiko pulls herself off the car. She throws a single backward kick of her heel and dents the door, donning a wicked smirk as she heads up the walkway and pushes inside. The damn wings of a fallen angel knock against the doorway — but they’ll provide a healthy bubble of distance from everyone else around her as the crowd parts around her. If she learned anything from the parties she’d attended in the last year — it was to make a b-line from the front ( or back ) door straight to the booze selection.
Although she was already feeling that hot buzz of spirits in her blood, Kimiko needed to secure a drink to clutch for the rest of the night. Any time something stupid was said, any time something unforgivable was done, she would take a drink. And if Sasuke was seen with another girl, after what happened between them at the Homecoming party three weeks ago, and how often she’s been at his apartment and patiently helping him sort through his emotions, after everything that happened between them.. Well, she’d guzzle the whole cup and then someone else’s, too. Maybe crack a skull, pluck a tooth off of the floor for keepsake..  Ino and Sakura have flocked to her side, bubbling with astonished compliments as well as soured remarks on the Tamashi’s disappearance. The familiar crimson of slow boiling rage starts to fade away from the corners of her vision. She’s standing at the kitchen counter, red plastic cup empty and surveying the options. “ Holy wow, Kimi! You look gorgeous. ” Sakura, the little angel of their trio, chimes in at her left. On her right shoulder, Ino the devil shares her opinion. “ Gorgeous? Fuck that. Kimiko looks drop dead sexy. This is definitely an ex-revenge costume. ” Silent as ever ( at least, as she’d become over the last year ) the fallen angel reaches for the rum, rolling her thumb over the cap and flicking it across the marble counter.  It glugs liquid fire into her empty cup while Sakura wraps around her arm and tucks her head against Kimi’s shoulder ( a good sign that she was inebriated, herself ). “ Ex-revenge costume? How’s she supposed to get revenge from an outfit? ” The naive pinkette asks. Ino scoffs, “ Are you kidding me? Do you know how many guys have cracked their necks just to gawk at her? I counted six, just on her trip from the front door to the kitchen. ” Kimiko adds a splash of tequila into the mix, as well as the rest of someone’s open redbull can. Then comes the mixer: some sort of grapefruit soda, and a lime. Like, a whole half. She likes the bite.  “ And other guys looking at her is supposed to be.. revengeful? ” Sakura questions after slipping from Kimiko’s arm, their polar opposite wings knocking against one another in her clumsy step to shoot a questioning look to their blonde-haired and red-clad she-devil. A hand comes up to Ino’s forehead as she sighs. “ Oh my god, I knew you had too much of my Prosecco. ” Sakura makes to protest, and Kimiko ( who has yet to acknowledge them or make an expression of either distaste or amusement ) takes a tasting swig of her drink. It wasn’t bad, but maybe it needs more grapefruit soda. “ The more attention she gets from other guys, the more jealous Sasuke is gonna get. She gives him a taste of what he’s missing out on. ” Ino explains.  Sakura pretends to understand, but she’s never been the type for manipulative revenge schemes. Her payback is served with a crack of her knuckles. Meanwhile, Kimiko uses a healthy balance of the two methods of torture. Even still, as both girls bicker over whether it was a good idea to lure that side out of Sasuke ( especially in lieu of his recent loss ) or to move on like he didn’t exist, Kimiko scanned the crowd for his unforgettable features. They had no idea of what happened between the two at that last party; they didn’t know about his once thorny exterior quickly becoming dependent on her emotional support through this difficult time, nor how she honestly felt concerned and protective over him despite still trying to figure out how to forgive him ( or if she even had the kindness left in her to accomplish such a feat ). At last, they’d found each other through the writhing mass of bodies mingling, dancing, flirting, and drinking in a kaleidoscope of lights. Yellow high-beams meet swimming pools of obsidian over the rim of her cup. The whole world deafens and stills around them: despite the five yards of distance that separated the two, Kimiko swore she could hear his shaky exhale as he drinks in her visage — wonders briefly if he could somehow hear the tripping thrum of her heartbeat as her stare flickers over his own devilishly desirable costume. Pulling her lips from her drink, the fallen vixen swipes bubblegum tongue quickly over her lip and offers a little wink across the room ( unseen from her female counterparts ). Let’s hope this doesn’t backfire.

rewritting sasuke’s arc because i can't sleep at nights
canon sasuke is a bitch and an idiot and you can't tell me otherwise (stick with me even if you’re his fan, please)
which boils down to kishimoto being an idiot who doesn't know what he's writting
so, sasuke would have his revenge on itachi and on the old council that manipulated his brother. he would address how hurizen is just the worst
but he wouldn't fucking plan to kill all the konoha because it's dumb as fuck
sasuke would understand that konoha as all the people isn't guilty and he would become who he doesn't want to be if he actually killed everybody (you know what that is? gROWTH)
sasuke would complete his revenge by killing people he planned to but he wouldn't be satisfied
he would say 'fuck konoha and fuck all the villages' because he actually doesn't wanna come back because, well, the system is kinda fucked, right?
but he would decide he doesn't want to be an evil bad guy that would '''''unite all the nations against him''''' because it's dumb as fuck and wouldn't work at all
i mean, you really want to 'unite' all the people and make them less stereotypical towards clans when you make yourself a perfect example of 'this sasuke guy is the worst! we made a good choice killing these untamed uchiha. we should do it again if another clan starts to get too loud’ ????? ?????
he would create his own village or take over the sound village because somehow orochimaru's message isn't this bad after all
i mean, find people who are the outsiders and have no home, the ones who aren't accepted by their villages, and give them home - sounds good to me!
sasuke would be a kage but people would join him of their own free will (instead of 'mom said it's my turn to be hokage >:( and you people have to listen to me!')
that would follow the message of ruling not by fear but by love, which is a very smart message
that also would be a parallel for sasuke learning from orochimaru and kind of becoming his legacy - orochimaru was his sensei after all
however, he definitely improves orochi's ideas because, well, sasuke isn't going to experiment on these people...
but i always felt like orochi's idea of a village that has special people joining it because they have no home is something very interesting and much better option than normal villages
tbh, i really like this ambivalence - orochi's viewed as a bad guy but actually the message of his village (excluding the experimenting on people part... lalalalalalala) is morally good
at the end, we get a very very very satisfying and fan-service ending of two kages - sasuke and naruto, being at peace, and naruto learning to be better hokage and changing his village to make it similar to sasuke's (ehm huyga clan ehm)
'and they were kages… oh my god, they were kages’
(we can literally have the same ending with the headband - that would be so fitting!)
sasuke becomes a compelling anti-villain who finally can see a bright future (because he can see his influence on naruto) and he's finally happy and feels like he found home and family (his new village) - we would sympathize with him and we would be happy for him that after all this mess he's eventually calm (there should definitely be a scene when he's just looking at his village and genuinely smiles after 84 years saying 'THAT is some good fucking life')
i'm not saying that itachi would be proud but itachi would be proud
also, the story gives good messages such as: (mentioned before) rule by love not fear, change a system by giving an example not a threat, revenge won't satisfy you, etc.
instead of, like: ‘when you’re defeated by your rival-friend, go on an exile and abandon your daughter’ or 'knowing that itachi killed innocent people, i'm planning to do the same'
all in all, we would get a really great character development and more meaningful ending, giving a good background for imagining (or really continuing it in boruto) how the shinobi system can change influenced by sasuke's village policy
oh my god they were kages
Feel free to change it or share your own opinion, however, please keep the principles of discussion (this post doesn't tolerate any kind of hateful comments towards anybody, even Kishimoto. I can call him an idiot but I'm not sending him death threats, okay? And I encourage all of you not to do the same, towards anyone, also towards me. I have not enough mental health to stand very mean posts)

"I HAVE NO REASON TO LOVE HER OR BE LOVED BY HER"
Let's unravel the symbolism behind Sasuke's seemingly brusque words.
Because EVERY. SINGLE. ONE of Uchiha Sasuke's words are overflowing with underlying meaning and the symbolism behind turns him into one of the most spectacular fiction characters in modern literature, in my humble personal opinion, in terms of construction, inner coordinates, skeleton and philosophy.
Particularly, when his character's evolution embroiders tantalizingly into sakura's canvas of innocence and soul-healing love ❤️❤️❤️♥️💖💕💜
If we abide to the post-modernist literary criticism, we can refer to this terse assertion from Sasuke in the specter of deconstruction and hermeneutics as methodology of interpretation of the manga.
Namely, we shall try to look for the underlying message of the manga in the context as the intrinsec values of Sasuke's words must be referred to as deeper and transcending the message of the author himself.
I'm considering hermeneutics specifically because it is widely used for the interpretation of biblical texts/writings of wisdom and Sasuke's construction is abounding in such symbolism.
The problem here lies in mainly two colliding manga ideologies in the brusque change between Sasuke and Kakashi, namely the nihilism/negativism vs humanism/idealism.
Kakashi's seemingly retort to Sasuke 'you don't need a reason to love someone, you only need a reason to hate someone' creates an anachronism and a hypothetical fallacy in his logic. As a consequence, he once again fails to stop Sasuke from his resolve.
Kakashi aligns to the Manga's fundamental humanist view as Kishimoto provides the reserves with his own subjective answer to acquire universal peace and ceas conflict: love as mutual understanding.
Kishimoto annexes 'love' with an intrinsec value that's self-sufficient for quenching conflict. That's the foundation of humanism, the confidence in the good nature of a sentient being.
Only... He's not necessary correct. He fails to grasp Sasuke's character and delve deeper into his own life principles. As the main antagonist opposing to the hero's messianic humanist role in taking the reins to universal peace, Sasuke as an Uchiha is the manga conceptualized version of the negativism as depicted and analyzd in the classic philosophy tomes of the great philosophers - Kant, Schopenhauer, Hegel with deep roots into Machiavelli's 'Prince'.
Short note, if you are interested in dechipering the character of Uchiha Itachi, then start with Machiavelli. Itachi is the embodiment of the Prince imagined by machiavelli. I'm giving these cites  for emphasize: "It is better to be feared than loved if you cannot be both" - - itachi telling his kid brother that it doesn't matter if Sasuke hates him because they have each other like brothers.
" it is not titled that honor men but men that honor titles" - - it's not the one who becomes Hokage that it's acknowledged but thr one who is acknowledge by everyone becomes Hokage as he tells Naruto: " sees what you appear to be, few experience what you really are - - itachi's retorts to his fellow Uchiha who questioned him for shisui'death that 'all of you without measuring your own ability had no idea of mine";. I think they are self-explanatory for they are almost perfect quotes from Itachi's iconic phrases.
So back to Sasuke, he is basically the perfect depiction of Arthur Schopenhauer's philosophy which strips the Life of any intrinsec purpose, admittedly attributing 'pein' to life, birth, death itself. This is the Uchiha's infamous  'curse', the biblical curse of knowledge. They are the philosophers of the manga, the great thinkers, the nihilist the ones who question the Life Script.
Uchiha don't get obsequious towards the Life Script. They are thr ones who ask questions, they don't settle for 'that's how it is' absurdity. They use critical thinking, ration, philosophy, psychology to debunk the mysteries of life and that's why they symbolically 'fell from grace.' Uchiha fell from Paradise metaphorically because they questioned the laws of universe. Naruto and his devotees accept love as having intrinsec omnipotent power.
Uchiha don't. They are rational, pragmatic, intellectual, philosophers, sophists, great thinkers - - see Sasuke's 'revolution' mentality.
Sasuke challenges Naruto's 'status quo' as preserving democracy as ensuring universal peace.
Conversely, let's consider the syntax of his statement. What Sasuke really means by stating that ' I have no REASON to love her' doesn't refer to a justification for love as a feeling itself (a feeling equipped with gratifying powers of being sufficient and inclusive) as 'motive'. Sasuke doesn't deny it, it isn't a contradiction, a negative rejection of her feelings. 'reason' in sausl as care refers to his cognitive process, his ability to JUDGE, to ration, to think critically, to distill and not simply pander to what society considers as being self-sufficient. Sasuke doesn't see love as am intrinsec value to happiness and fulfillment. He doesn't accept the humanist/positivism  MENTALITY, and not the 'motive' itself.
Sasuke isn't an untutored need in the arts of love. He isn't stupid nor naive. Of course that he doesn't look for a justification for Sakura's feelings nor his very own. He tries to ration logically because this is his manga role - the thinker. He challenges a mentality and not a simple remark.
Sasuke cannot reasonably comprehend Sakura's ardent devotion. Why would someone so ardently succumb into the den of the devil itself for a decadent criminal with a radical negativist vision who won't reciprocate? He doesn't fathom her masochism, the coherence and rational expansion for her attitude.
Also, Sasuke doesn't accept the ubiquitous and amorphous dissonance of 'love' as ubiquiptusly omnipotent and soothing.
Kakashi alludes that life consists of perpetual happiness as innate to every sentient being, that happiness comes for free and passively, that's the gift of life itself. Sasuke on the other hand is the echo of negativism - - pein is the sole governor of life and one must seek happiness proactively.
Tl:dR: 'REASON' here doesn't refer to a motive as justification for love as a feeling. It reflects Sasuke's role in the manga as a great thinker, a philosopher, a man ebbed with a rational mind, critical thinking who doesn't pander to society's norms. He doesn't accept love as a self-sufficient explanation for Sakura's irrational devotion.
Sasuke reflects the negativism of Arthur Schopenhauer's/Kant'a philosophy while Kakashi/Sakura/Naruto are the humanists with a positive worldview who deem love as universally present in any sentient being as intrinsec to the very existence of every sentient being.
Also Kakashi's verbose assertion denotes a fallacy in his logic. Kakashi implies that 'hate' is the opposite of 'love' ans Sasuke depicts this erroneous surmise thus he cannot be swayed by Kakashi's lapses and flaws in logic.
Let's consider the two symbols in Naruto manga, darkness and light, Naruto and Sasuke, negativism and humanism. Darkness is not the opposite of light, but the ABSENCE of it. The opposite of matter is not the anti-matter but the absence of it. Thus hate isn't the opposite of love. Using the laws of phisycs and metaphysics, the opposite of love shall be the ABSENCE of it.
Thus once again, just like the first time when his words of wisdom failed to reach to Sasuke's heart and quell his thirst for revenge, Kakashi failed to stop Sasuke because he didn't comprehend his character as the deep rational thinker, the man who doesn't obediently follow the Life Script, the man who asks questions and wants rational answers - admittedly he never did.
Ultimately, it boils down to the two antithesis that fundamentally cement the  grandiose skeleton of this manga: nihilism/existentialism versus idealists/utopic.

Outcast pt.2
Word Count: 2,128
Pairing: Sasuke x reader
Warnings: swearing
A/N: happy AU (meaning Itachi is alive and everyone is happy)
Tumblr media
Two years have passed and Sasuke still hasn´t come home, you doubted he would at this point.
Honestly you should´ve seen it coming, all the while you comforted him, your mother gave him a home and a family, he never wanted any of that, he was never grateful for anything you gave him.
He just wanted revenge.
But that wasn´t why you were so mad, no, you were mad because you actually believed the vulnerable side he faked.
Most of all you were mad at yourself for still missing him.
You really thought you two had something special.
In those years you tried your best to seek distraction in everything, especially in the missions you went on with Naruto and Sakura.
They really grew up and learned a lot, you felt so weak next to them.
Sakura was so beautiful, she always was.
And that only made you feel inferior.
Yeah it was stupid to feel jealousy, to envy her, but how could you not? After all she and Sasuke always shared a special bond with each other, she always could read him like a book, understood his moods, his ambitions, she always had his back no matter how much of an asshole he was. It was admirable.
Ever since you realized that you too harbored feelings for Sasuke you were angry, infuriated, wrathful beyond belief.
The reason why should be obvious, you had no chance, not against her.
And that was the problem, you didn´t want to fight over some boy with your friend, it was stupid.
But the most prevalent reason for your anger was that you knew how she felt for him, she liked him before you, you had no right to fall for him and yet you did like a dumb little school girl you weren´t anymore.
You craved missions because of that anger Sasuke caused in you, the anger that just hid all the pain and broken trust you felt ever since he left.
It hurt you that he left without saying anything, especially after you thought that he showed vulnerability to you, that you got intimate at least a bit the night before he left.
You felt utterly betrayed.
Naruto tried to cheer you up as much as he could, cracking jokes and doing stupid things to direct your anger at him, but you only gave him halfhearted scolds.
That´s when Sakura noticed something was wrong too and she felt guilt build in her stomach.
Why had she never noticed before that you liked Sasuke? After all he did like you, as he wrote in the letter she was supposed to give you.
Sakura was selfish that night, she didn´t give you the letter because she was angry that Sasuke didn´t like her back.
But she grew up.
“(Y/N), I need to talk to you for a second” she gently touched your arm, frowning slightly.
Naruto went on ahead, telling you that you should hurry up or else your mother would be worried and the food cold.
“What is it?” you tried to sound nice, to smile at her, but you could barely avoid your voice breaking.
You always got so sad whenever thinking about Sasuke, but you weren´t the only one.
Sakura sighed before pulling out the letter of her bag, facing you with the most sincere look you have ever seen on her.
“I want to apologize. For everything, for behaving so childish… I know that you like Sasuke too and it took me some time to be okay with it, to be honest. But… it´s time to move on from me. When he left, he asked me to give you this letter. But I opened it, read it, I was heartbroken, so I never handed it to you and I´m sorry for that, it was stupid. We´re both grown up now and I don´t want to hate you because my crush likes you. I hope you can forgive me and that we can put this behind us” Sakura looked down on the floor guiltily the entire time she spoke before she handed you the letter.
With shaking hands you took it, but you didn´t read it yet.
Not before you went up to her and gave her a warm hug, embracing her tightly to show her that you too did not have any ill intents for her.
“Sasuke left, Sakura. He forsake everything and everybody, it´s time we get over him” you whispered into her neck, finally letting go the tears you tried to hold in.
“(Y/N)….please read the letter, it´s really important that you know what Sasuke had to say to you” Sakura had an urgency in her voice that you seldom heard from her, it wasn´t like the one where she motherly scolded Naruto for doing stupid stuff, it really had to be important.
You just nodded and she said goodbye, walking home and leaving you in the outskirts of the village where you took in all of the contents of the letter.
Sasuke thoroughly described his reasons for leaving, all about his brother, revenge and… that he held a special place in his heart for you, that he would think of you every day and regret leaving.
How he would apologize when he returned, how you were the reason he would return overall.
It was sweet reading those words and yet at the same time that warmth spread through your chest, so did an ache. Why did he have to be so stupid to chase after ghosts of the past who were so obviously stronger than him?
Oh how you wanted to punch him right now only to kiss it better afterwards.
You didn´t realize how much time has passed when you finished crying your heart out, it was pathetic, Naruto would laugh at you if he saw you like that.
“Shit! Mom´s gonna be worried...” you husked out loud before running home and entering your apartment with red swollen eyes and out of breath.
“Sorry I´m late, mom, Naruto! I forgot time” you breathed out, trying to catch your breath.
It was only after the silence that followed that you dared look up.
And the view brought tears right back to your eyes.
The scene that unfolded before your eyes looked like this: your mother was hugging Itachi, apologizing for the elder´s and the cruelty that he had to go through, Naruto was yelling at Sasuke who yelled back, confirming Naruto´s insults but then stopped in his tracks to look at you.
There was no missing the sorry and hurt and guilt in his eyes.
You didn´t know what to say so you looked to Naruto and your mother for help.
Naruto just snarled at Sasuke again though, grabbing him by his collar and growling how he made you cry again, your mother was too distracted talking to Itachi to notice that you were back.
“You´re an asshole...” you closed the door and stepped inside, shaking.
All of the emotions Sasuke made you feel boiled up again, and every one of them turned to anger.
“I know” Sasuke simply said, not daring to meet your eye.
Why was he here? Why now? Why was his brother with him? All those questions went through your head at the same time, it was too much to take in.
“(Y/N), sit down, I know it´s a lot for you right now, but you need to understand what happened” your mother gently touched your shoulder and you let yourself sink down on one of the chairs next to Naruto.
He still glared at Sasuke but put an arm around you, giving you some sort of comfort. He wasn´t good at comforting people in serious situations like these, but he tried his best.
Then your mother started explaining the story of Itachi, the cruelty he had to experience and that he has been pardoned by the village, of course those who led him to do what he has done were punished.
She didn´t mutter a word about Sasuke, thinking it was better for him to tell you his side.
You just sat there, tired, taking all of the information in. You didn´t know what to say, what to do, if you should cry at Itachi´s past or whether you should hug him in an attempt to comfort him.
But just like your brother you weren´t good at comforting people.
“I´m going to bed” you simply whispered, standing up and walking to your room.
There you sat down next to your window, sighing heavily and letting your clutching heart and the lump in your throat overtake you.
A knock on the door disturbed your agony, though you didn´t say anything, Sasuke still entered your room.
“(Y/N)?” he called softly with an uncertainty in his voice. “I know you don´t want to see me right now, but please let me explain myself...” he pleaded, the moonlight reflecting in his eyes.
You scoffed, sniffing and wiping away your tears angrily before gesturing to sit down with you.
Sasuke sat down in front of you, looking at you like an injured animal begging you to kill it to release it from its agony.
“I´m sorry, for leaving without saying anything… I know I hurt a lot of people in doing so, but I thought it was the right thing at the time” he frowned, looking down and fiddling with his fingers.
“Are you out of your fucking mind?!” you balled your fists, you didn´t want to say anything at first but the anger just swelled up inside of you, making its way outside.
“Yes, yes you hurt us, you hurt Sakura, Naruto, mom and me! All of us, you just turned your back on everything we built, it´s like you spat in our faces, telling us that we weren´t worth anything and the love we gave you was in vain! Of course that hurts… but that´s not the worst thing. No, the worst thing is that you gave in to your vengeance. I told you this before, but revenge isn´t the way to find redemption. And killing your own brother? Not only is that cruel, but it´s also a stupid idea! Do you know how strong he is? What were you thinking, taking him on like that? What got you thinking that you could actually win? You´re an idiot. Making us worry like that, we didn´t know that you´d come back, you might´ve been dead all along. And every day we asked ourselves if you were still alive, if you´d ever come back, if we could save you… we searched for you, you know?” you rambled on and on about the impact Sasuke left after he did.
Sasuke said nothing and the room was filled with silence.
There was nothing that came to his mind that could suffice for an apology, it was already too late for that, he hated himself for inflicting such pain on you, on his new family.
“Did Sakura give you the letter?” he breathed heavily, he felt like absolute shit, yes he deserved it, but he didn´t want to cry in front of you.
“Yes she did, just earlier today. I wish she hadn´t though, it wouldn´t hurt this much this way…” you breathed out.
“I still feel the same, nothing´s changed. All the time I was gone I wished I could return to you, you were the only thing that kept me going. But...you must hate me now” he felt silly for confessing his feelings to you, now that it was too late.
“It´s been two years, Sasuke… I was just starting to get over you and then Sakura gave me your letter and everything went back to zero. It really got my hopes up, but it´s not always this easy. I don´t hate you, I couldn´t. But I´m still angry at you” you told him.
“I know and I´m sorry. I shouldn´t have left, I should´ve stayed with you, I really am stupid” he reminisced, chuckling self pitying.
After a while you finally calmed down, you just couldn´t stay angry at him no matter how hard you tried, the soft spot you had for him ever since he first joined your make shift family has long grew into something more.
Into something greater than the both of you.
“I told you that before, but dwelling on the past doesn´t get us anywhere. You´re back now, that´s all that matters. We´ll make this work, that is if you stay this time...” you bitterly added.
Sasuke smiled at you genuinely, you were always so quick to forgive him, forgiveness wasn´t something he deserved and yet you still embraced him.
Just like back then… damn, he really did miss you.
“I´m not so stupid to leave you again” he husked.

Pokémon Black 2 Randomized Nuzlocke Run [Part 9]
All eight badges earned, so what does that leave?
Pirates.
Team for the task?
Vertex (Luxray)
Caspet (Gengar)
Stormy (Metagross)
Photon (Rayquaza)
Nessy (Milotic)
Diego (Gardevoir)
...Those who did not participate in the last Gym, raise hands or whatever you have in place of hands for grinding.
Tumblr media
#LET ME LEAVE THE GYM WITHOUT A CONVERSATION GEN 5 CHALLENGE.
Tumblr media
Colress, I swear, if you pull a Euicine and make me fight you for the honor of not fighting the Terrakion...
He does not. He gives us a toy and basically says to check out the cave that I need Strength to go through more thoroughly. The Giant Chasm pirates are still blocking my way, so.
Siiiiiigh.
Box crew! What have you got for me!
I will take out Bessy, the level 33 Miltank, and teach her Strength.
Tumblr media
Bessy is Modest and somewhat vain, but that doesn’t matter because she’s just here for HMs. She’s temporarily taking Vertex’s place, since Vertex isn’t in need of more experience.
Ah. Actually, Strength just lets you get Toxic. Which is fine, but sorry Vertex, guess I threw you out of the squad for nothing.
Tumblr media
Hey we found the boat!
Marlon lets us aboard. Thought: I should go put Bessy back in the box and grab Vertex in case something goes wrong. Except that would take time.
...I am going to go put Bessy back in the box and grab Vertex.
After shifting a boulder on Route 22. And grinding for a bit.
Okay. A few hours later, I am more comfortable entering the pirate ship. Team levels are now 56-60. That is absolutely a balanced assessment of my current team. It is in no way misleading.
Tumblr media
Me!
...This is the greatest grunt ever. He calls Marlon Smiley Swimsuit. Yes. You have perfectly boiled down his character essentials.
Oh wait, he has a Watchdog.
Sorry pirate friend. We can’t be friends.
Russell, my actual friend, is trying to go on his roaring rampage of revenge. Only as a responsible big brother, not a Sasuke.
I used to have a Sasuke. No more.
...I should have named Russell Itachi. If there’s ever a next time...
I continue to find it delightful that after N leaves, Team Plasma ditches their knight theme for a pirate one. I don’t even know why, I just love it. I love knight aesthetic, I love pirate aesthetic. My castle was right next to my pirate ship for most of my childhood, and it rocked.
Though my pirates wouldn’t steal people’s pets. A key difference. Pirate in name only. Well. And clothing. Pirate is just a more fun word than sailor, and pirates have looser fashion.
Tumblr media
Mook time over?
Tumblr media
Technically this one isn’t stealing.
Just animal abuse.
The villain of this game is just a salty old man who spent so much time in a refrigerator he decided the rest of the world should spend time in a refrigerator, too. Then he found out his region has a legendary Dragon/Ice type, and the rest is history.
Only history I have to repeat.
Because the villain of a Pokemon game decided his winning strategy would be shooting bolts of ice down at the world below.
Video games are the greatest.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...Wait. How did me and Russell get down here? Did Team Plasma just throw us off?
Also, yes Cheren. They use everything for evil. They’re the bad guys.
And then Cheren asks where the people Zekrom and Reshiram recognized are and. I wonder if he misses his friend. his best friend, [last game protagonist]. How much does it suck that he spent a full game with [person], and now they’ll never see each other again because [person] is bound to a different dimension. A world Cheren can’t touch.
Canon has, what. Red who comes back? Every other protagonist kind of just. vanishes as far as future references to that world are concerned. And Red spends quite some time up on a mountain. Alone.
These games are all about people who swoop in and birth legends, then vanish.
I made myself sad.
Anyway, to the Giant Chasm!
Tumblr media
Totally bro.
Aw crud. Do I need Strength? I think I might need Strength. Can I mayhaps avoid that?
Oh. I could just go down the giant stairs.
Tumblr media
Wow. Talk about your parties.
Tumblr media
ONE MORE TIME ON THE BOAT.
Tumblr media
I hate password games. At least the ship supplies a doctor early on. I wasn’t to the point of active concern, but I was feeling a bit itchy about using up healing items. I haven’t grown out of my usual standard in these games where I just let everything in my party die to avoid spending money.
Tumblr media
Agreed, let’s roll you.
This guy just keeps throwing Cryogonal at me.
You know, I don’t have a lot to complain about regarding these games and their choices. I whine about everything, but all in all, I find all of them very solid and enjoyable. Even if gen 4 has too many HM requirements wtf just stop.
This isn’t really a complaint, but it is a confusion. Zinzolin is fought multiple times in a relatively small window, and his team never changes. We just keep beating him. I get the sense that they wanted a villain, but as a sequel game to a gen that went all out on that, they didn’t really have anything they were willing to turn into a threat.
Really, I feel like a better path to pick would have been giving one of the Plasma grunts a different hat and having them be the captain of a very confused and angry crew. But eh, whatever.
Tumblr media
....Oh. You.
Why is the most anime hair dude in the game so gosh darn forgettable?
For the sake of my flawed memory, he wants to bring out the full potential of pokemon, and is willing to us whatever means are necessary. The only question is which approach actually yields results.
I like you, Colress. I am never going to remember you, but I like you.
Tumblr media
Good grief his theme sounds like it came out of Phantasy Star.
First up is a level 50 Magneton. Caspet’s an okay choice, so I’ll just Shadow Ball it. Magneton Thunder Waves Caspet, then uses Volt Switch to swap in Beheeyem (also level 50), who takes a Shadow Ball and dies instantly.
Sorry, ‘faints.’
A level 50 Metang is switched in next. Out of twitchiness over Caspet’s paralyzed state, I put Nessy in and go with Surf. Metang uses Agility from the red. Colress uses a Full Restore. Metang hits a Zen Headbutt, but Nessy has the last laugh.
Ugh. Colress is going to send in a Magnezone. Stormy’s the best answer to that, I think. Stormy knows Hammer Arm. It hits, but like everything I hate, Magnezone has Sturdy. A Bullet Punch handles that.
A level 52 Klinklang is next. His only thing over 50. Stormy is paralyzed thanks to Magnezone, but a Hammer Arm that hits should end it, and I don’t think Klinklang knows anything that’s a threat.
Even if Stormy feels like being paralyzed.
Only once, though. Hammer Arm + Bullet Punch does the job, and we only have that pesky Magneton left.
Hammer Arm and we are done.
Tumblr media
Please don’t make me fight another one of these clowns. I don’t wanna.
Tumblr media
Aw heck, Russell’s having his moment with Purrloin drama. And I guess I’m not fighting robe dude. It’s all ninja for now. With my four pokemon who aren’t paralyzed. Maybe I should have fixed that.
Tumblr media
:(
For real though, our rival’s plotline here is pretty dang sad. He wants his little sister’s pokemon back, and by the time he finds it, it isn’t hers anymore. It’s had an entirely different life without them, probably committing crime. Because it’s been told to.
This is why you get the pirate Plasmas and the knight Plasmas. It’s fantastic that you, the protagonist, has a crew of pokemon perfectly happy fighting and doing whatever you want. But living things being forced to do whatever you want them to because you happened to throw a ball at them is pretty screwed up.
There’s not really a satisfactory conclusion to all of this, since critique of a game mechanic that is never going to stop being a game mechanic doesn’t get to start dramatic revolutions regarding that mechanic, but it’s all very sad and sobering.
Tumblr media
That pretty ice tho.
Tumblr media
BUT WHERE IS THE PROTAGONIST FROM THE LAST GAME.
No, but thank you N. I was not ready to die at the hands of Kyurem. Your assistance is much appreciated, and pretty great in your sequel. Props.
Tumblr media
Gee, that looks bad.
Cue dramatic anime battle sequence.
Tumblr media
Followed by anime transformation sequence.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Welp. Time to kill you. Let’s just hope I can.
...Stormy. I think I might want you to tackle this. To the front you go.
Tumblr media
But really.
So damn cool.
Tumblr media
It’s dead now, but so. cool.
Tumblr media
There are too many fights going on. I think I wouldn’t mind in a normaly playthrough, but for a Nuzlocke, this is needlessly stressful and I am not a fan also I beat Ghetsis in the last game and it wasn’t fun then, either.
He has six pokemon, and he opens with a level 50 Cofagrigus. That is not Stormy’s friend. Nessy, if you would. Hydro Pump hits. Toxic hits from the other side, and I will deal with that in a moment, after the Cofagrigus is gone.
Ghetsis, naturally, uses a Full Restore.
Nessy handles it in the end, but is down to 73 health. Eelektross is coming out next. Time to switch. To... uh. I’ll give Photon a whirl. Feeling lucky, I use Outrage, and Eelektross faints.
Ah. Hydreigon is out next.
That is a nasty type combo for my team to deal with. I think. Geez, mark this where I have all the regrets, but Photon’s staying in to murder the Hydreigon with Outrage. Ganbatte.
IT’S SUPER EFFECTIVE AND A CRITICAL HIT, GOOD JOB PHOTON.
Seismitoad is next. Diego, time for you and your Magical Leaf to shine. Shine they do, and we’re on to Drapion, which I will leave to Photon. Two Air Slashes make their mark, and all that’s left is Toxicroak, so in you stay Photon.
AND WE’RE DONE HERE, SCREW YOU GHETSIS!
Tumblr media
But where is that certain Trainer, N????
Anyway, with that, it looks like the plot portion of this Nuzlocke is over. All that’s left is heading up to challenge the Elite Four.
I think a battle like that can have its own part.

[ 365 Days of SasuHina || Day Thirteen: Another Day ] [ Uchiha Sasuke, Hyūga Hinata, Uchiha Itachi ] [ SasuHina, pregnancy ] [ Verse: A Light Amongst Shadows ] [ AO3 Link ]
It’s just another day. Just gotta get through one more day.
So has been the approach of Uchiha Sasuke regarding his life after the war. And it’s not been easy. At first, he found himself completely stripped of his purpose. Losing to Naruto - or rather, conceding to Naruto - had signaled an end to a phase of the avenger’s life. One that - though changing - had remained a constant for a decade. Have a goal. One goal. Stick to it until reaching the end. Adjust as need be.
First had been vengeance against Itachi. Then justice in his brother’s name against the village that had used him. After their meeting in the war, and the discussion the the Hokage, he’d had one last iteration: bring the battle to an end...and then use the circumstances to wipe clean the slate of shinobi. Remove the Kage. Ensnare the beasts. Use his newfound power to bring peace absolute, even if it meant resigning himself to the shadows.
He’d accepted that role. Made peace with it.
But, as usual...Naruto got in his way.
It was for the better, he supposes...even if some aspects, to him, remain necessary. Mostly regarding the shape and path forward of the shinobi world. Once he’d been healed and made whole (physically, at least), he’d left Konoha behind with a pilgrimage in mind. With plans to see the world and its new beginnings in every land, every village.
But then he’d gotten a bit...sidetracked.
And now, here he is, with not only a brother returned to him, but a cousin as well. And a police force under his command, in joint effort with the Hyūga. Which had led (at least in part) to his meeting the woman he wakes up to on this fine day.
Hinata’s still asleep, lying on her back as to best compensate for her rather voluminous stomach. Within grows their future firstborn, who’s finally letting her sleep in for once.
Managing to spare a few minutes to watch her, Sasuke eventually has to concede to a need to rise. Even if his wife is on maternity leave, he still has a job to do...bright and early, as he does nearly every day.
His morning routine is quick and basic, up and out the door in less than half an hour. As she always does, Hinata’s left him a breakfast to eat on the road to the station. He finishes just as he reaches the front door.
“Uchiha-sama!” A young Hyūga recruit snaps to attention. “The captain of the ANBU was here earlier, sir! He requested an immediate audience.”
...shit. That’s not good. Suddenly far more awake, Sasuke presses for details. “Where?”
“I...I think he’s just been waiting in your office, sir.”
A nod. “Thanks.”
He wastes no time in striding down the hall, entering the proper room and locking it behind himself. Itachi leans in a corner, dressed in ANBU gear, minus the mask. “Itachi? What -?”
“I need your assistance on a case.”
“...me as an officer, or me as an Uchiha?”
“The latter.”
Sasuke’s visible eye narrows. “...it happened again?”
“...it did. Worse this time.”
“Where?”
“My front door.”
“What?!”
A hand raises against his loud tone. “Thankfully that means it’s really only visible to us, tucked away in the compound. I’d like to keep word of it that way, as well.”
Sasuke pauses, trying to think. “...what did it say?”
“The usual. Threats, a list of our crimes...but no one claiming it. Whoever it was, must have been skilled. Someone would have noticed them otherwise. This wasn’t some run-of-the-mill dissenter against the Uchiha. This was someone serious.”
“I take it you moved your family?”
“I did. I’d have done the same for you, but the words were rather specific in targeting me this time. If you’d like, I can still have Hinata fetched. Shisui took the rest to the Hokage tower this morning.”
Sasuke runs an irritated hand back through his hair. “So much for having this be just another day…” Pause. “...I think that’s best. Until we can go over the scene and find out more. I don’t want to run in the face of a threat, but…”
“I know. I feel the same. We have people we can’t dare to risk.” With that, Itachi replaces his weasel facade. “I’ll dispatch a few of my officers. If things get bad enough, the missus suggested taking herself, the kids, and Hinata to her home in the mountains.”
“With the pair of them pregnant?”
“She’s capable, and you forget her teacher lives there as well. They’d be safe, and far from harm’s way...not to mention under rather strict defense.”
Sasuke can’t help a scowl. “...I don’t want our clan driven out of Konoha again.”
“Neither do I. But their safety is priority.”
“...I know.”
With that, the pair abandon the station and return to the Uchiha compound, the only three structures standing out rather obviously in the otherwise-empty district. Giving his home a glance, Sasuke instead follows Itachi to the main manor.
And then balks.
Carved into the front door is a vulgar message, within which is contained a number of threats, and foreboding warnings against Itachi’s “betrayals”.
“...she didn’t see it, did she?”
“No. I was up far earlier, and ordered her and the twins out the back with Shisui. They didn’t need to see that. He took them to the Hokage tower for now, to keep an eye on them while on shift with Kakashi. Hinata should be there by now as well.” Itachi’s face declines slightly. “...I should not be surprised, and yet…”
“It’s nauseating,” Sasuke agrees before his brother has to speak. “...and pisses me off. What do they mean, betrayal? You were working on behalf of the village! Everyone knows that now!”
Rereading the message, Itachi slowly shakes his head. “...I’m not sure. It could be that I betrayed the Uchiha...but who beyond us would be left to feel anger in that regard?”
“I dunno…”
“...there was Akatsuki, I suppose...and…” He fades out to silence.
“...what?”
“You remember what was reported about Root? There was no actual list of active members. And it was suspected some refused to report back to Konoha to be reassigned and reintegrated after Danzō’s death, and the faction’s dissolution.”
“...yeah…”
“This is only a theory, but...perhaps those remnants of Root are those who have been targeting us. Think about it: it makes sense. It could be said that I ‘betrayed’ Danzō. You and Shisui as well. Shisui’s eye was stolen, but he escaped, and has been revealed to have been living in secret despite Danzō’s order for his death. You fought him and drove him to suicide in an attempt to stop you and Obito. And I...I brought the truth of his actions to light with my return and pardon. All of his work has been revealed. His role in the massacre. Danzō’s life, reputation, and wishes have all been made moot by the three of us.”
Sasuke can’t help a humorless huff of breath. “...so you’re telling me we have an unknown number of ANBU-level nutcases still loyal to a dead asshole looking to get revenge on us?”
“As I said, it is only a theory. But it would explain why we can’t seem to catch them. It could be just one person. It could be a hundred. We have no records of Roots numbers, let alone how many turned their backs after Danzō’s death. They were brainwashed to be loyal to him. A few managed to resist, but…” Itachi gestures almost apathetically. “That may be the root of our problem.”
“...I’d expect wordplay like that from Shisui, not you.”
“He’s not here. Someone had to do it.”
Sasuke drags a hand down his face, sighing and staring at the splintered door. “...if that’s the case...we need to be damn careful. Hinata’s a jōnin, but also pregnant. Your wife’s a non-combat medic in the same boat with two kids. How the hell do we protect them without quitting our jobs to guard them day and night, and fortifying the houses?”
“...I don’t know. I will speak to Kakashi on the matter, as I’m sure Shisui has already begun. He may have more insight, and have help to offer. But I cannot assume what resources he would be willing - or able - to spare.”
The pair lapse back into silence, each lost in their thoughts. Anger slowly begins to boil in Sasuke’s blood. How dare they...how dare they come after his family...after all they’ve already been through? When will it end?!
“...for now, we’d best reconvene in the Hokage’s office. One of my squads will gather evidence in the meantime. And we’d best put the compound on lockdown. No one in or out.”
“Hn…”
There’s sympathy in Itachi’s gaze through his mask. “...we’ll get through this. As always...we live to fight another day.”
...but how many more will we need?
OOF. This one's posted before midnight (my time) - yay! And also is a little bit heavier than usual!      This is another canon-ish snippet from a major WIP fic of mine that I'll probably never actually finish. SH is a side pairing in it, with focus actually being on a few RPCs of mine. And the epilogue (having been planned before Boruto's creation) focuses instead on major conflict surrounding the Uchiha, and a faction called "New Root"...which, as we can see, is causing the tiny clan some major issues.      'Issues' being a rather light word for it.      Anywho, Itachi just might be on to something with his Root theory...which is actually a much bigger problem than their first assumptions of simple villagers being upset with his return (as well as Sasuke's) given their past behavior. Which leads to a lot of drama and tension down the road!      But, this is just a snippet for the challenge, ahaha - so that's where we'll have to leave it for now. But, either way, I hope you enjoyed reading, and thanks as always for stopping by!

And They Swore Beneath the Fire Lilies
Chapter TWO
Neji is already at the Academy gates waiting when the class is dismissed. Sakura calmly walks up to the older Hyuuga and nods respectfully in greeting. "Neji-nii-sama."
Neji nods back, neither of them willing to show any more affection in such a public place.
A few minutes later, Hinata shuffles up to them, head lowered and not meeting their gaze.
Neji nods at her anyways, eyes spiteful. "You sure love to take your time, don't you, Hinata-sama?"
Hinata visibly flinches but otherwise does not react. "I'm sorry..."
Neji scoffs but does not show any signs of moving. "How long do you plan on standing here?" He asks after a while. "I have better things to do than stand in front of the Academy all day."
"You are the heiress, Hinata-sama," Sakura says, a little more kindly. "You are supposed to lead us."
Hinata nods hesitantly and has just taken one step when someone comes marching over with a loud "Hey!"
Sakura eyes the blond hair and the blue eyes and immediately puts a name to the face. "Hello, Namikaze-san." It is not only a greeting but a way to discreetly inform Neji of the blond’s identity.
Neji looks at the boy before his eyes slide over to the black haired boy with distinct Uchiha features that steps up beside him. He then looks behind them, eyes landing on the red-haired woman who is most definitely the blond's mother and the Hokage's wife, then the older looking version of the black haired boy, who he had seen enough to know was Uchiha Itachi.
"You don't have to be so mean to Hinata-chan!" The blond, Namikaze Naruto, says, eyes blazing. "Even in class, you're always treating Hinata-chan like she's some sort of...sort of..."
"Mental retard," the black-haired boy, Uchiha Sasuke, supplies.
"Yeah! A mental retard." Naruto's voice raises in volume and he does not seem to notice that Hinata is flinching away from his loud tone.
"Please lower your voice," Sakura says calmly. "You are attracting attention and scaring Hinata-sama."
At this, Naruto pauses. He sends Hinata a nervous smile before he turns on the Hyuuga siblings. "Anyways, she's never done anything to you so you really shouldn't be so mean to her!"
Neji wants to snort but he restrains himself. Hokage's son or not, he wants to crush the boy in front of him.
He didn't understand. No one ever did. It was the main branch who was at fault, but it wasn't like he and Sakura could launch a revengeful attack on the clan head's family, could they?
Instead, he shoots the boy the most dismissively look he can conjure. "This is Hyuuga business." He has almost perfected it, the glare that made anger and hatred boil under his skin. He had been on the receiving end of it some many times he can replicate it easily.
Naruto easily takes the bait but is stopped from attacking the older boy right out by Sasuke. "Don't bother, Dobe," he says.
Naruto opens his mouth to no doubt argue but he is interrupted by the sudden arrival of a shinobi who is most definitely a Hyuuga. The man ignores the tense air and bows towards Hinata. "Hiashi-sama is worried over your late return," he says. "He would like you back at the compound immediately."
Hinata flinches and goes pale. Sakura and Neji exchange a discreet look before their shoulders tense and their eyes harden.
"Shall we leave now?" Gaku asks.
Hinata nods quickly.
Naruto looks ready to protest but this time, his mother steps in to stop him. She nods stiffly at the Hyuuga but offers no further greetings and in return, the man bows his head briefly before turning back to Hinata.
The man does not even look at Neji and Sakura when he says "Hiashi-sama is expecting you in his office. You two were put in charge of escorting Hinata-sama back to the compound immediately after school and he would like to know why you were holding her back."
Hinata winces and opens her mouth before she bites her lip and hesitates.
Neji nods, eyes dark and anything but sincere. "Of course," he says. "I apologize, Gaku-san." He knows that Hinata is no doubt a less than ideal heiress and the clan doesn't hold back in showing this when Hiashi is not present. However, when he and his sister are present, Hinata is the lesser of the two hateds.
The man barely acknowledges him.
Hinata bites her lips and looks down but she does not attempt to speak up again. She does not complain when Gaku leads her off.
Sasuke says a goodbye to Naruto and his mother before following his brother back towards the Uchiha compound. Now that his friend is gone, he finds his mind wandering back to the brief interaction he had witnessed at the front of the Academy.
Unlike the Uchiha who gathered under the clan head, the Hyuuga was separated into the main family and the branch family. While Hinata and Sakura were both Hyuugas, Sasuke recalls seeing Hinata present in shinobi clan gatherings and knows that she is the heir, which in turn made Sakura was a member of the branch family and an inferior existence.
He had seen Sakura stick around the other girl ever since the first day of school, but while she played the part of an aide and looked after the other girl even better than she did her herself, it was obvious that she was not doing so out of choice. Sasuke has also caught more than one mean-spirited comment directed at the heiress.
While Sakura's jibes are well concealed at first glance, it is not difficult to pick up the insults hidden behind. Sasuke thinks if someone said anything along the lines of what Sakura has said to Hinata to Itachi or even to him, they would be in big trouble. Then again, Hinata seems to be simply too shy and hesitant to protest against it and Sakura seems well aware of this.
He then recalls the times he had caught a glimpse of other members of the Hyuuga clan. They, in turn, seemed to look down heavily on Sakura and her brother and it is obvious that they are viewed to be inferior. He wonders if tormenting Hinata comes as some sort of retribution to the treatment the siblings seem to receive by everyone else.
"Is something wrong, otouto?"
Sasuke blinks, having just noticed the frown he was sporting. He looks up at his brother and slowly shakes his head. "Nothing." He pauses, then adds quietly. "Do you know anything about the Hyuuga?"
Uchiha Itachi looks down at him, a gentle look in his eyes. "Is this about just now?"
"Sakura doesn't like Hinata," Sasuke explains. "Tou-sama once said that the Hyuuga keep their branch house members under a tight leash, but Sakura seems to have no problem outright mocking the clan heiress."
"While a clan, there is a huge gap between the main house and the branch house of the Hyuuga clan," Itachi says. "While the main house rules, the branch house is seen as a means of protection and the members are treated more like servants. "
"And the branch house members don't mind?"
Itachi shakes his head and narrows his eyes a little. "This is mostly considered Hyuuga secret and is not known in the public. Not even I know the full story but it said that the main house members have a way of keeping the branch house members in check."
"But you don't know how?" Sasuke asks.
Itachi nods. "Whatever it is, it must be powerful or frightening enough to keep more than half a clan under control." He pauses, a dark look Sasuke does not miss in his eyes. "Every clan has its own darkness," he says. "Some are ones people think they know and some are much darker than anything imaginable." He glances down at him and smiles softly, though there is a hint of sadness there. "The Hyuuga darkness is thought to be well known, but in reality, is much deeper and darker than anyone thinks."

He Wasn’t There (3/?)
Part 2 https://fifi-uchiha.tumblr.com/post/170553511454/he-wasnt-there-2 ................................................................................... “It was an Uchiha.” “WHAT?” Ino didn’t expect that. She did NOT expect for Sakura to suddenly speak up. An Uchiha. It was an Uchiha who did that to her? But how? Who?! And fucking WHY? Ino knew the story about Itachi Uchiha and how he killed the Uchiha so many years ago, so how was it possible that someone from that clan hurt Sakura like that?! Both kunoichi’s were sitting on Sakura’s new couch in her new home and Ino had made sure to heal Sakura a little more. Her best friends inner wounds first had to heal completely before she’d finish her up and it would take up to five days until her friend would be healthy again. Physically healthy of course. She didn’t say more. Sakura couldn’t talk about it, telling Ino that was more than enough for this week. The blonde hold her hand in a firm grip, knowing that Sakura would need many more days, no months to come back to her senses. The pinkette didn’t ask for Sasuke even once. No, all she wanted was her daughter and her friends by her side, the pink haired beauty didn’t even ask Naruto if he had informed her husband. Because she already knew of course. The medical ninja barely talked at all, much less showed her well known, energetic smile. Her eyes still looked dull and empty and Ino hat the feeling that her soul was screaming, burning inside her like a raging, horrible inferno. “Sakura… Is he… in Konoha? Do we know him?” “No.”, she answered in a dark, heavy voice, her eyes full of bitterness. “Before I collapsed… I broke both his arms.” She voice was shaking a little, a mixture between sadness and angers was raging within her. “He got away before I could kill him. But… I made sure that he would take long to recover.” “Sakura… You..-” Ino wasn’t sure how to react. Working as a doctor, she knew many woman who had to go through sexual abuse but Sakura acted so differently. She was not like them at all. There were no tears nor did she scream or shout. Sakura barely really cried in front of anyone and that fact worried Ino to no end. However, Sakura threw up at least two times a day. It was horrible to watch and it happened in the most unexpected moments. The first time it happened when she cut her finger when she washed the dishes. The blood and the pain of the cut made her insides boil and before Ino knew it, her best friend ran to the toilet and started throwing up like crazy. The other time, Sakura was out with Naruto and Sarada eating ramen when suddenly the voice of ripped clothing echoed in her ears. Her hands were shaking like crazy, her green eyes wide in horror and her jaw hardened for she tried to stay calm. Sakura wanted to keep it back, to convince herself that everything was okay now… However, her body betrayed her and the pinkette ran out of the little restaurant and choked, throwing up the ramen she eat minutes ago. “Mama!” “Sakura-chan!” Immediately, Naruto hold her long, pink hair and Sarada stared in shock for seeing her mother like this terrified the young Uchiha. “Don’t worry… I’m just a little sick.”, she panted, forming a weak smile for Sarada and Naruto. “Come on… Let’s just go back before out meals get cold, okay?” Both, Naruto and Sarada weren’t given the chance to talk to her about it because Sakura tried to stay calm and collected so she could convince herself that everything would be okay again. . . . “Ino. Please tell Naruto about it. There’s another Uchiha who wants revenge for the slaughter of his clan.” Those were the last words of Uchiha Sakura and Ino knew that it would weeks for her to tell her more about the horrible incident. “Don’t worry, Ino. He… he couldn’t finish it.”, she suddenly said dark and  low, making the blonde medic widen her blue eyes in surprise. “Even if I had to sell my sanity, I didn’t let that bastard beat me.”, she snarled quietly, her eyes suddenly looked deadly and hateful which matched to her harsh voice. “I made him regret meeting me...” . . . .………………………………………..………………………………. “What?! Uchiha? You mean the person who hurt her was...-” “Yes. That person was from the Uchiha Clan.” Naruto and Kakashi looked at Ino in utter disbelieve, both hokage were totally shocked about those latest news. “No. This is impossible. Itachi made sure to-” “Obviously, he left out another one beside Sasuke.”, she interrupted the sixth hokage. “She didn’t speak much but Sakura was sure of it. That guy definitely is an Uchiha and he wants revenge.” “But why Sakura-chan?!”, the fox ninja raged. “She has nothing to to with the massacre, dammit! Why would that fucking bastard attack her and not me?!” It really didn’t make sense at all. Not only was Sakura a good person with an even better heart, she also was a part of the Uchiha Clan that guy apparently wanted to avenge. “We shouldn’t push her too much.”, Kakashi said with disappointed eyes. “I mean, she’s pretty tough. Ten days later and she even wants to start working again. I don’t know if I should admire her or worry more about her, really...” “She’s a horrible patient.”, Ino sighed heavily. “I told her that her body will need at least two weeks to recover and I know that she knows. But she is so stubborn.” “You know her.”, the masked ninja intoned. “She can’t live without her job. It’s like a drug and in her case also a… distraction.” A pregnant silence followed in which all three shinobi thought about Uchiha Sakura’s, who would take very long to become the woman she once was. “What about Sasuke? Please tell me he’ll come back, Naruto..!” Ino knew how intimate the relationship between Sasuke and Sakura was for she had seen the glances they shared when they thought no one was watching. Also, Sakura was a very compassionate person who would never marry someone who wasn’t as compassionate as her, regardless of the fact that Sasuke barely showed emotion in public. They shared their moments when they were alone, so much Ino knew. And she also knew that Sakura would feel better and definitely saver with her husband around! “He still hasn’t answered...”, Naruto replied brokenly, his patients was wearing thinner by each passing hour. “I know he takes time to answer but I thought… with Sakura-chan-” “That fucking bastard.”, Ino snarled angrily, her voice thick with fury. “Are you telling me that Sasuke hasn’t even sent aone single fucking letter?!” Naruto looked down, not able to look the blonde kunoichi in the eye. “I know this mission is important but I always thought that his wife and child would be his very first priority.”, Ino spat with venom in her voice. “And here I thought he’s changed. I thought my best friend would be in good hands after their mirage. I thought that the arrogant brat he once was became an honorable man with an absolute devotion to his family, dammit!”
“There must be an explanation, dattebayo-” “What explanation, Naruto?!”, Ino demanded harshly.
“That guy at least tried to force himself on her! I don’t know if or… how he did it but Sakura’s fucking traumatized! She cant eat, she has nightmares, she can’t sleep without Sarada, she throws up regularly… How much more does it take to make him come back?!” Even if it hurt, Kakashi and Naruto knew she was right. Ino was Sakura’s best friend and unlike her teammates, she was able to judge without feeling connected to the missing Uchiha. “She will leave him.”, the Yamanaka said. “She wants a divorce. And guys, you know how happy I was for them but… I will support Sakura with her decision. I won’t try to change her decision. I know how much safer a woman feels with her husband, no matter how strong we are. But Sakura deserves someone who loves her and sees her as his first priority.” Ino’s words were harsh and even if Naruto and Kakashi never wanted their comrades to go through a divorce… there was nothing they could argue about.
“Ino… Listen, I understand you better than you think. Don’t you think I’m not angry?” And Naruto was. The Seventh Hokage was furious and he couldn’t wait to find that son of a bitch and make him pay for what he did. “But Sasuke is my comrade and my best friend. And as long as there’s hope, I’m gonna believe in him, dattebayo. He would never cast his family aside, Sasuke is not that kind of person..!” “I agree.”, Kakashi said calmly who tried to believe in Sasuke even if the whole situation was kind of complicated. “We will support her, too. After all, she is a grown up woman and if she’s not happy with this mirage, then she’s more than free to annul it. Sarada’s old enough to understand and Sakura has a job and is a more than capable kunoichi. We just want her to be happy, that’s all.” And Kakashi knew that she would only find absolute happiness with Sasuke Uchiha by her side. “You better send that bastard another message, Naruto.”, Ino told him sternly. “Not like he cares, but let him know that Sakura will no longer be his wife. The only Uchiha aside him now is Sarada. Sakura, however, won’t be a married-single mother any more.” With those words, Ino just turned around and walked to the door, opening it and leaving both shinobis alone for she knew that the  members of Team 7 needed time to adjust to this new situation. And for many, many minutes both Naruto and Kakashi weren’t sure of what to say, really. “I’ll give him five days, Naruto.”, the jonin started talking and saw Naruto’s confused, unsure face looking at him. “Five days. Should he not come back to the village, I will look for him and tell him something he won’t be able to handle.” Telling him this, Kakashi turned around, his hand in his pocket and grabbing his book to bury his nose in it and the blonde Hokage knew why he did it. Kakashi Sensei was a person who reads when angry and to be honest, the fox ninja was kinda glad about that for he really didn’t need a blue Susano destroying this bulding. Sighing sadly, the hokage looked at the old Team 7 picture again, his eyes becoming more and more depressive due to the fact that his best friend still wouldn’t come back. “Five days, idiot.”, he whispered in a sad but hoping tone. “You have five days. Come back and make the best out of it, dattebayo...” . . . “Sakura-san! You look beautiful as ever, If I may say it like that!” A little smile touched her lips when she met Rock Lee. Sakura was just about to enter a super marked to buy a few things for dinner when she suddenly met the tai-jutsu expert who was just as lively as ever. “Thanks, Lee. You look well, too.”, she said friendly, however, her eyes still looked… sore. As if she’d been awake for several days. “Meeting you here was fate, Sakura-san. I was looking forward to seeing you off.” “You did?”, the pinkette asked incredulously. “Yes. Fate was on my side as it seems, so...” Suddenly, lots of white flowers were hold under her nose and the pinkette realized that the black haired jonin seemed to have bought that bundle of flowers for her. “Back then, when I was hospitalized after my fight with Gaara… You always bought me those white flowers. And seeing you sad and without any happiness made me realize how much I missed seeing you smile. You should cherish your youth and bloom like the baautiful flower you are!” Her eyes twitched and even though she should be happy, thankful and full of gratitude for having such nice friends, Sakura didn’t. She couldn’t. Because she was ashamed of Lee knowing… that about her, it pained her to know that everyone seemed to be aware of the latest events. Uchiha Sakura was a proud, strong and independent woman who never wanted to show any weakness to anyone. And now, after so many years of proving her worth, showing how strong she’d gotten… Everyone seemed to know about that horrible incident. It was humiliating and for a moment, the medic wanted to run away, bury herself in a hole and never come back. “Thanks… Lee, I ap-” ‘You’re mine...’ He heart stopped and her eyes widened at the voice hollowing inside her head. ‘No matter how strong you are, you will never forget about me, right Sakura..?’ Her eyes, her hand, her body, her heart, her very soul- Sakura’s whole being started shaking when that deep, threatening voice made her head pound like crazy, insane and horrible memories hit her like a hot jackhammer. “Sakura-san? Are you okay..?” Her knees gave away and a moment later, the pinkette was half kneeling, cold sweat started to cover her face, dripping over her forehead and cheeks. “Hey..! What happened-” Warning not to come closer, she raised her hand and made him understand that she needed to be alone, that she didn’t want anyone to be near her right know. The pink haired kunoichi looked like she’s just ran a marathon for she was panting like crazy, her eyes insane and dark at those gruesome memories. . . ‘Pathetic, little Sakura. Trying to be strong even when you know you’ll lose.’ ‘Shut up!’ ‘Come now. We both know I’m right. No one knows you’re here, no one will come to help you, no one will miss you when you’re dead.’ ‘NO! My friends- My husband-’ ‘What husband?’ That sinister, dark smirk would hunt her forever just like the words he spoke afterwards. ‘No one will save you when I make you mine...’ ‘SASUKEEEEEE!’ . . “Sakura-san? What happened..?!” “Don’t!” DON’T COME CLOSER! “Don’t… worry… I’m okay.” Don’t come. Don’t come, don’t come, please don’t come! “Lee-san… I-I need to go home. Sorry but… we’ll talk about everything next time, o-okay..?” Never in his life had Lee seen his pink haired friends so shaken, so… devastated. “But Sakura-san, you really should-” “I have to go..!” The tai-jutsu specialist looked with unsure, sad eyes at Sakura’s retreating back, hoping for her to find peace again soon. His friend was too nice, too sweet, too goodhearted to experience something like that. But unfortunately, there was nothing he could do about it. Nothing. Lee knew that the only one who could make her happy… -was Uchiha Sasuke. “I hope he’ll come back soon. Sakura-san needs him so much...” . . . In the darkest hours under the dim moonlight, a dark, cloaked shadow walked through the gates of Konoha-gakure. A man, a shinobi who made no single noise walked quietly, without sparing his surroundings a single glance because he just had one single, important thing to do. The roads were empty, no single civilian or shinobi was outside, only the dark haired man who walked faster than needed to finally reach his aim. He paid no attention to his bleeding wounds or the dark bruises that covered his body. No, even though he was in a pretty bad condition he continued walking, making sure to finally reach the place he was aiming for. The man was obviously impatient, nervous almost for he really was in a hurry right now. He needed to see them. Both of them. Sure, his face showed no emotion, his face was as calm and collected as always. However, he had this strange feeling in his chest that made his insides squirm but… It was impossible. There was nothing to worry about because this was Konoha-gakure, for god’s sake. But still, he could do nothing about that pang of angst surrounding his heart, that hidden fear he started feeling days ago was beginning to crush him. A shaky breath escaped his half parted lips whereas his palms felt sweatier with each passing second. “Dammit...” Why was he so nervous? Why did he feel so much angst and worry?! And since when did it take so fucking long to get to the Uchiha district..?! . . . With a heavily beating heart, his knuckles hit the door softly. The black haired shinobi knew the door was not locked, not to mention that he owned a key of course… But he secretly enjoyed the soft, cheerful smile of the pinkette, followed by the energetic, yearning hug of the youngest Uchiha girl. Yeah… Sasuke couldn’t wait, his heart arched for the most important people in his life. His family. The family he created himself, the family he always wanted, the family he loved more than everything in this world. The pain was nothing to the feeling of absolute excitement he held right now for it was too long since he last saw his family. But to his shock, they didn’t open the door. Not even after the third time he knocked and Sasuke’s angst and nervousness grew and grew. Thinking that they might’ve felt asleep, he opened the door himself and was greeted by dark silence that felt uncharacteristically cold. His home was never cold. Whenever he came back, whenever he was with them, Sasuke never felt cold. Never. But right now… it was freezing. For the first time in his life his house was cold, making the heart under his chest even heavier. “Sakura?”, he called his wife’s name, walking through his home and opened the door of his daughter’s room. “Sarada..?” No one was there. Both of them were gone… But why? He was sure they weren’t out for it was far too late for that. Maybe Sakura was working and Sarada stayed at Ino’s or Naruto’s? Or were mother and daughter camping and relaxing for a couple days? . . . “Well, well. I see, you finally had the decency to come back, huh?” Too engrossed in his thoughts, the Uchiha hadn’t noticed the sudden presence of his silver haired sensei who looked at him with dark… reproachful eyes. Sasuke felt kinda weird for Kakashi always seemed so happy when he saw him after such a long time of being apart. After all, his sensei was the closest thing to a father he had so… why did Kakashi look at him like he broke the rules? “Kakashi.”, was his low, calm greet. “Where are they?” A heavy silence followed in which the dark haired Uchiha felt like hell waiting for his sensei’s answer. Kakashis eyes were unforgiving, his posture usually calm but… he seemed stiff. No, he looked really tense. Just what was going on here, why did everything feel so… off? Patting his shoulder was the first thing Kakashi always does so.. why did he look so upseat? “They are save.”, Kakashi simply answered whereas Sasuke’s gaze twitched. Save? Why shouldn’t they be? “I know you are pretty injured but I will still tell you one thing about Sakura, Sasuke.” The Uchiha swallowed, sweat was dripping from his throat for right know… he had the feeling that Kakashi was going to say something that would wreck his world. . . . “Your wife no longer wants to be with you.” . . . :::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::: Part 4: https://fifi-uchiha.tumblr.com/post/171460831574/he-wasnt-there-4 Weeeeell, that escalated quickly. ^^ But okay, I’m not sure how you guys will react but… yeah. This ff won’t be long at all, this is merely a little practice for one of my ‘main ffs’ that are to come :D So, I hope you liked it even if it was a little boring. Stay tuned and enjoy your weekend ^.^

BOOM. Sasuke having nightmares about the massacre and Sakura comforting him (make it painful)
Requested by: @radioactivelaura
The memories were shadows, dark ink stained shrouds of clouded, looming, cleaved hems of reality. It was masked in crimson, a coated dye of what spread between the stones, fleeing from corpses as if it were travelling down the stream of veins, marking its path with ruby torrents that scaled their way towards him. Then the voices would begin to echo through the vacant streets, a chorus of screaming wraiths that claimed the form of meshed time. It created a shattered form of twisted faces that were long buried, forgone by trimmed years. It was a pretend world where they never existed, only crawled from the bellows of beckoning call to torment the mind of the one person who could fiercely remember how such pain mounted in his chest from the scene playing out in front of a traumatized child too terrified to move, scared that his limbs would give out if provoked into action.
The moment always came swift, a soul crushing reminder of the lies that barricaded his life into a boiling revenge he could hardly contain alone. But it was there, existing, clawing its way to the surface, waiting for the fuel to give it life. It was always the faded faces of his parents being sliced by a tarnished blade, swift as a guillotine, and brazen as a ghost. Itachi’s eyes were born unreadable, bearing hatred to gorge the love from those weakening ties. It deteriorated, fazed the backdrop into ebbing souls, turned vultures to devour the heart. Stealing pieces of his once whole world, crafted into his being.
That’s what the massacre had been. The abandonment given by gravestones. The pain that etched into his lungs, causing strife the moment he attempted to breathe. It was real. Reality molded the farce, but still bared its teeth in a gnarled fashion. Despite the closed curtain over the truth, it couldn’t conceal the staged horror any more than passing days. Itachi’s words before he departed for a second time had been security in a way, having seen what truly transpired. But it couldn’t dispel the aftermath of having observed the slaughter. And there was nothing, no force that could ever provide a comfort to that.
Sasuke woke with a sudden jolt, hand quivering as his fingers rest over stinging eyes. His bones ached from mere tiredness as these unwanted recollections were thrust aside, burned into cinder until the next time they revived themselves. Any attempt to suppress them only provoked the agony to swarm as if summoned. He was damage control by being left alive that night. Much like Itachi had been when coerced to choose sides at too young of an age, except he was the pawn.
“Are you okay?” Sakura asked, stirring. The abrupt movement had awoken her from light sleep, something gratifying from all those nights worrying. She placed her palm alongside his shoulder, feeling him slightly shaking. “Nightmares again?”
He simply nodded, quelling the emotion that wanted to bleed into his strained tone. He felt her move closer, warmth from her body pressed against him. “I’m fine. It’s not as if I’m not used to this.”
She gently stroked his face, turning his head towards her. “You’re not alone now. I’m here.”
“I know, and don’t think I don’t appreciate that every second,” he said quietly. “It’s just… hard to have no control over something that happened so long ago. Seeing it all over again. It’s like being stuck in the Tsukuyomi.” It was a relentless cycle he couldn’t cure his mind of, yet the darkness was expelled from it when the lies were banished from the scene. It still didn’t erase the fact that it occurred or that he was there to watch.
Sakura knew only the details he was willing to spare. She didn’t ask him to divulge any information he wasn’t prepared to relive. It was his past and knowing a few particulars was more than she could ask for. Sasuke was soft-spoken about his childhood. It’s where his insecurities were formed, his suffering that magnetically propelled him to make decisions he thought were founded on principal of justice or, in some cases, denial. Like the night he left the village. It remained a plaguing reminiscence that built around them.
Her jade eyes regarded him with a calm expression as the shade of night enveloped them. “What happened to your clan, the reasons behind it, I know it has to be difficult to cope with. You can be as detached as you want from the past and still know it’s following behind you. But that doesn’t mean you have to recognize the presence.”
“I tried that before,” he replied, head leaning towards her. “Ignoring it only drove my desire to leave Konoha and make all those mistakes. It’s easier with you and Sarada around, but the nightmares won’t stop. The curse in my bloodline doesn’t only apply to losing people. It’s being haunted by it that makes it a true torment without remedy.” He stood up, taking a few paces away from the bed. “We were nothing but collateral damage. And for the longest time… no one cared.”
She wanted to embrace him, steal the grief that ate away at him. “No one truly knew the extent of what happened, what price you and your brother had to pay. You were always so quiet when we were younger.” The regret in her voice was heavy. None of them asked despite being aware of it, afraid of how he’d react to the question, ready to hear another falsehood he used as a shield. “We did care. I cared. I still do.”
“The people that caused it didn’t,” he said, anger seeping into his bitter words. “All they did was pretend it was some random act of murder to discredit and ruin the Uchiha. Coup d’état or not, they didn’t deserve that. Itachi chose to leave his little brother as an orphan with only hatred and regret, thinking that’d be sufficient to pursue living. It wasn’t. No matter how much time passed, I’m still thrown the reminders over and over again. Every night for as long as I can remember. When is it enough? Why does everyone treat surviving like it’s some kind of cruel reward? It was a brutal compensation being forced to move forward when there was no one left to see you when you got home, to say they were proud of you, to even express a form of acknowledgment that you existed. All those childhood normalcies were taken in one night. I hated every minute of it and still people treat my response as treason because I wanted a way out!”
She lowered her head, getting up to stand behind him. “It was betrayal to those who loved you when you walked towards death,” she lowly replied. “If I had known, if any of us had known how much it was hurting you, we could’ve helped. I’m not saying it’d stop, but you wouldn’t have been so alone.” Sakura attentively studied him. His gaze was avoiding her as she rounded in front. His fingers were loosely clenched as he tried to remove his resentment. “The Hidden Leaf did a lot of wrong, especially concerning the Uchiha Clan. It’s okay to still feel aggrieved over it. I understand, although my comprehension will never be on the same level.”
He remained silent, turning his stare away. “I didn’t mean to raise my voice. I might have found redemption, but that’s my own much like my past, not anyone else’s burden to carry. Reliving it reminds me of all the repressed abhorrence I held. I know I have purpose now. I have a family. I have a future. I have you by my side. I just can’t help carry regrets that travel far beyond me.”
Sasuke owned nothing back then. His home was a place consumed by piercing jabs of familiarity that was tainted by the loss that welled up inside his heart until that pain spread. The ache that seeped into him was overwhelming, but due to his silence, it gave permission for that void to grow around him, absorb it into his bones. It was always about control. Shed the feelings that stormed his mind, contain the desire to give up completely, and most importantly never let the world see how easily his façade was crumbling apart. It was exhausting to play the game of avoidance. Leaving gave him the release to finally put aside the care to wear a mask of indifference despite the marks it left behind in his personality.
Sakura inhaled, a shallow breath that hitched in her throat as he walked back over to the bed. She knew there was little she could offer to the past, but the amount of relief in words was there. He’s done the same in her distress whenever it rose up, taking her by surprise. They were there for one another.
“We’re connected by our feelings, remember?” she asked him, taking his hand in her hold after sitting beside him once more. “You don’t have to hide it from me. You don’t have to pretend. Just because you’re forgiven, changed your path, you’re happy, that doesn’t mean you can’t get mad or upset. Especially around me.”
He closed his eyes, water clouding his sight as a frown fell back into place. Some days the light that filled his life was only a flicker, but it was a flame too bright to ignore. “I hate it,” he exhaled unsteadily. Her grip tightened a bit. “I’m terrified of losing people. After having to see it happen to my family, at the hand of someone I loved and trusted more than anyone else, I’m scared that one day it’d happen again. Or worse. I’d be the one at fault for being the monster I used to be, that I could do the same as Itachi.”
Sakura pulled him into a hug. “Beyond mortal flaw or fatal sin, you’re the man I’ve always loved. I’m on your side no matter what happens. Sarada and I both care about you. We don’t know what the future holds, but as far as I’m concerned, what matters is here and now. Nightmares aren’t real. What’s real is right here,” she said, placing her hand on his chest. “And you and I both know how much love is there. I don’t care about possibilities. I trust you with all my heart.”
He offered her a faint smile, his lips pressed against hers for a small kiss. “You always have. Even when I didn’t.” He paused, looking into her eyes. Their relationship was strained in the past, but unbreakable with their vows. It was her love that completed him. “Thank you.”
She returned the smile, her hand resting on his arm. “It’s late. I’ll stay up with you if you want.”
“I think I’ll be able to sleep,” he offered with a slight shrug, appreciating the reassurance in her touch. “I know you’re here and that’s all I need.”

SasuNaru and the pin hole
(semi anti ending but not tagged as such as its mainly pro, so beware..vv semi tho)
@sasuke-prevails
Okay, so I’d reblog your post with a reply but my computer always freezes up when I do that and try to add pictures and I can barely use the tumblr app as it is so gaaaah. Plus, I’ve always wanted to make this post debunking everything SNS claim anyways. So here you go. sorry about the wait, i was so lazy..sorry about some shakey images i have GAD
First off, I’d like to say that when I say I am a Naruto fan, I don’t mean the character. I mean, don’t get me wrong I love Naruto too, but I am referring  to the series. I genuinely love this series despite all of it’s inconsistencies, I am late on the band wagon but I prefer that since it allows me to think objectively.  SNS tends to view the series with what I like to call pin hole vision where the entire series is naruto  x sasuke, they are the center bond because they represent everything the series itself stands for. They are not together all the time, they haven’t had the healthiest relationship but they’re the centre  bond because as proven by the first and final battles in the VOE, both at the end of part 1 and part 2 respectively it’s a ‘it boils down to this’ type of thing. However, when I say I am anti romantic SNS it does not mean I am anti their friendship. Do I think its unhealthy? Some aspects of it, yes. Problematic, yes tbh.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
These are good examples  I think. Narutos worst fears early shippuuden were disappointing his comrades, and this. Why is is problematic on Narutos side? I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it
I’d like to mention what naruto as a series stands for, and always consistently stood for.
‘Nande?’
‘Onagi dakara’
‘why?’
‘because we are the same.’
-Narutos first bond, Iruka
‘Konoha o mamoroto tsuyui ishi’
‘strong will to protect the hidden leaf village.’
-Hiruzen
‘sato wa nanda?’
‘what is a village?’
-sasuke, ill get to it
‘Kono hi no ishi mote oru kagiri kono sato no mono wa subete kazoku sono mono nanja’
‘as long as one has this will of fire everyone in this village is family.’
‘Iruka sensei? Nande hito wa hito no tameni inochi o kake- ah fuck this translation takes too long im sorry omg
‘Iruka sensei why do people risk their lives for other people?’
‘When one person dies, their past , their present and their future disappears along with them----those people who die have dreams and ambitions, but everyone else has something just as important. Parents, siblings, friends, lovers..those who are dear to them. They trust each other and help each other—that string gets which connects those people gets stronger and thicker by time. It’s impossible to explain why, those who hold those strings just do it, because it’s important to them.’
‘yeah. Somehow it’s clear even to me.’
-Iruka and Naruto when Hiruzen died protecting the village
‘When someone has something they want to protect, their true power comes along’
-Haku
It’s because we help out when they’re in trouble that we can count on them to come running when we need it.
-Shikamaru, about Suna
‘If comrades that you trust gather around you, hope can take physical form and become visible. That`s what I believe...’
-kakashi, to obito
I won't allow my comrades to die. I'll protect you with my life. Trust me.
-kakashi
The next generation will always surpass the previous one. It's one of the never-ending cycles in life.
-kakashi
If you don't share someone's pain. You can never understand them.
-Pain
‘A long cycle of hatred humans have come to call history’
Just by living, people hurt others without even realizing it. So long as humanity exists, hate will also exist. There is no peace in this cursed world. War is just a crime paid for by the pain of the defeated...
-pain
Now there's something I understand a little better. Hate, sadness, even joy. To be able to share it with another person... Naruto Uzumaki. From fighting him I learned that. He knew pain like I did and then he taught me that you can change your path. I wish that one day I can be needed by someone. Not as a frightening weapon... But as the sand's Kazekage.
-Gara

People's lives don't end when they die. It ends when they lose faith.
-itachi
‘ill never let my comrades die, those words and the conviction behind them are not lies, because neji was able to store those words in his heart. Brother Neji died! It’s not just you Naruto, we all hold those words and feelings in our heart. That is what binds our lives together and makes us comrades. If we all give up those thoughts and feelings Nejis final act would have been for nothing. And that is when your comrades truly die.’
-Hinata
The pain of being alone is completely out of this world, isn't it? I don't know why, but I understand your feelings so much, it actually hurts.
-Naruto
That void is something that everyone helps you fill. Just because you face adversity and hardships, is no reason to give up on this world. A person willing to throw away all those memories... of their friends and comrades, will never find peace of mind. Resorting to something like that isn't going to bury that hole. If you persevere and endure, someone will be there to support you!

I love sasuke. I love all of his bonds, and despite the shit he dealt with in the series he really does represent the message of the series really well…an atypical antagonist, an incredibly well written character who fills not only his shoes in the story, but the shoes of many other characters.
You say Sasuke offered his food to Naruto because he cares about him and I agree, empathy stems from care. But going by your argument.
Despite this
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
He did wait for her to wake up, also risking elimination and a halting of his revenge plans.
It’s important noting that before any of this, their goals were very self centered and none of them were playing by teamwork..except sasuke, who boasted that he was better than them to Kakashi, but was still the only one who linked them together, by feeding naruto and by saying the whole ‘we are a 3 man cell aren’t we?’
Tumblr media
That’s another thing I love about this guy, he really brings people together despite the fact that does not talk for 98% of the series. Taka developed because of him and so did 7.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
A constantly relevant theme.
the first mission bought light to what their relationships would be like very early on, and also imprints these guys as personal bonds based on friendship and affection that sasuke shares, a feat that no one else in the series was able to do aside from his family.
Tumblr media
From the tree climbing exercise that combined their rivalry and their friendship to this moment that made a grown ass man cry

ENCOUNTER WITH FRIENDS WHO CAN EASE HIM FROM LONELINESS!!
↳ 【COMPANIONS】 Though until then he had taken no notice of either love or friendship, after meeting with Naruto and Sakura Sasuke begins to accept them as nakama, even if only little by little. In Sasuke’s eyes, before he even noticed it, he and Naruto became mutual good rivals capable of boosting up each other’s skills - and also, when his heart was about to be swallowed by Orochimaru’s wicked cursed seal again, he was rescued by Sakura…
‘as they go on countless missions together, he sees her strengths and weaknesses and views her as someone he needs to protect’
「呪印の影響で暴走するサスケを身を挺して鎮めるサクラ。サクラのサスケを想う心が、邪な力を 包 み込む。」
↳ Sakura willingly and bravely calms the rampaging Sasuke under the influence of the cursed seal. Sakura’s heart, thinking of Sasuke, devours the wicked power.
For Naruto who was considered a failure, Sasuke was more than an annoying guy who got the best grades: he was also the rival that won Sakura’s heart, for whom Naruto is in love …! That’s why he always gets annoyed with Sasuke
Sasuke, who only had power for revenge, becomes stronger because of his companions. His true place would have been a future among them.
Growing distant, towards darkness. The one to appear before him as he began leave was Sakura. To the back of a Sasuke that tried to avert from what was being left behind, Sakura desperately conveys her feelings. Bright and earnest feelings - feelings that did not want to lose Sasuke. The one who filled his lonely existence with the emotion called love was Sakura. But, as expected, Sasuke cannot respond to those feelings. Sasuke was only able to leave a single word of thanks as word of parting.
Friendship and love, a future filled with warmth. But as long as he is there, he cannot make his dream come true. This is why he throws away a future with his friends. To make dreams of revenge a reality…
As is confirmed by the databook.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Sasuke risked his life for them both, and he would have done it again no thinking what so ever, partly because he is a selfless person and also because they already imprinted on his mind. Sasukes relationship with Naruto is given a rivalry mixed with friendship context early on and my friend who had 0 to do with naruto burrowed volume one from me and in school while she was reading asked me if sasuke and sakura end up together, because authorial context is clear
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In fact this scene builds up a very good argument I have for this ship that I will get to, where we first learn of his entire stance in the story and sakura is like? Mind you, this was at a time before sasuke ever spoke about these things to anyone…he made me cry is not something he ever told anyone other than sakura. She was intuitive to he him, even during the war when she had a feeling he’d start shit up early on.
Tumblr media
You could argue he is blushing bc he is embarrassed… but he has had girls thirsting after him since he was fresh out the womb. ‘he came off stand offish’ well, yes naturally when a person is suffering from trauma and survivors guilt they tend to isolate themselves and become reclusive and irritable. Now, add the fact that the trauma happened at such a young age and you have a sasuke. But he still, took out the time to say he’s emo (a joke ofc)
Tumblr media
The only ‘romantic context’ ever given to Naruto and Sasuke was the ‘accidental kiss’ which ended up like this
Tumblr media
Over the course of the series we see Sasukes attachment to team 7, in the same context given before. Best friend and rival, girl he feels protective affection for.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
however, the context between sasusaku was always romanticized

Black Eye
I yawned loudly when I entered the school. Mostly, I would already feel hate boiling inside me, but today…I don’t know. I just felt like it was going to be a good day for me. I woke up before Itachi-nii even got into my room. My hair actually looked good today and I found a new pair of jeans in my closet that I didn’t even know I had; turns out my ass looks great in it.
I couldn’t even remember the last time I actually felt a little pretty. I walked towards my locker and grabbed my books. When I turned my head, I could see Naruto talking to Sakura. I felt this light tickling feeling inside my stomach. Normally, I would stay by my locker until the bell rings, but I figured today couldn’t possibly get bad for me. I put my books in my bag and fixed my blouse before heading towards him. I could hear him talking excitedly about something. I was wondering what he was talking about that made him this happy. I stood behind him and my hand reached for his shoulder to tap it to get his attention. Before my fingers even reached his shoulder, he moved his arms back and his elbow punched me in my right eye.
I fell on the ground and I could hear some gasps and other people laugh in the hallway. I wasn’t even aware of what was happening. I knew I was sort of punched to the ground and that somebody helped me sit up.
“Are you alright?!”
“I am going to get some ice!”
I heard all this shouting around me. I moved my right hand towards my right eye and that is when I noticed I couldn’t see jack shit with my right eye.
“Oh wow, wow, wow” I jerked myself away from Naruto’s hold and I got on one knee before I got up from the ground. A little too fast even. I saw everything move around me.
“I am so sorry! I didn’t see you!” Naruto said, he grabbed my shoulder to keep me from moving hazardly.
“I am turning into Suké” I joked, but Naruto’s expression didn’t lighten up. He looked at me with those guilt-tripping, big, blue eyes. His hands moved to hold my face. His thumb was moving over my cheekbone.
“I am so so sorry” he apologized again.
“I got…a frozen chicken nugget” Sakura said as she ran towards us.
“What?! They gave you a chicken nugget?!” Naruto frowned and I noticed his thumb was a little wet. I was confused until I moved my fingers under my injured eye. It was wet. Of course…I got punched with an elbow. It was only natural that my eye started to produce tears…but even while knowing this…why did I feel so bad about it?
“Hey…hey…” I woke up from my thoughts, seeing Naruto look at me with concern. I looked up to meet his eyes.
“I should probably wash it” I said, covering my eye with my hand. I didn’t want them to see the tears running.
“Should we…should we go to a doctor?” Naruto asked. I grabbed the chicken nugget from him.
“Nah, it is fine, I will just ice it” I said.
“Are you sure? Should we call Itachi-san? Like..to make sure?” Sakura asked, exchanging a look with Naruto.
“I told you I was fine, I hardly feel any of it” I said and headed for the restroom.
“I can come with you” Naruto offered.
“I am fine, go to class” I said as the bell rung during my sentence.
I had washed my eye and used what cold was left from the chicken nugget to cool it down, but looking at it from the mirror, I figured me acting like it was nothing was probably not a good idea. It had red from under my eyebrow to my cheek bone. At least my vision started to return, but I still saw a lot of grey spots. Well, I already said I was fine. I couldn’t back down now. I threw the chicken nugget in the trash and brushed my bangs to the right, so it covered most of my injured eye.
I rushed to class and naturally I had to explain myself as to why I was late. I figured it would sound pretty harsh if I said some blond idiot punched my eye with his elbow. So I said I got into a ‘little accident’ before I sat down next to Suigetsu.
“What accident? Did you piss yourself?” He asked and I frowned.
“No, Naruto punched me in the eye” I said, moving my bangs to show him.
“Damn Naruto, angry issues or nah?” Suigetsu turned his head to look at Naruto.
“It was an accident!” Naruto stood up from his seat and he seemed a little pissed.
“We know, calm down, nobody is going to sue you” I said.
“Have I mentioned the amount of tomatoes you can buy with the money?” Suigetsu laughed when he turned his head to me.
“I am going to sue you, Naruto, I can drop out of school, live in a box and eat tomatoes for the rest of my life while being surrounded by street kittens, you could say that I am living the dream” I said it sarcastically when I looked at Naruto, who sat back down.
“Why are you doing that?” I asked, turning my chair so I could look at him with my good eye.
“Breathing is needed-”
“That sad look” I said.
“My elbow blinded your right eye, am I supposed to do my happy dance?” Naruto asked.
“Yeah…make me laugh, I don’t know, man, shit happens” Sasuke shrugged, “You think this is the worst thing that has ever happened to my face?”
“His entire face is a pain to look at” Suigetsu commented.
“I can’t even deny that” I said as I pointed at Suigetsu.
“My point being, it is alright, no need to beat yourself up about it, I am not going to take revenge on you, my brothers are not going to knock on your door and beat the shit out of you, my parents won’t haunt you for this, it’s an accident…it happens”
“What about the army boyfriend?” I narrowed my eyes as I looked at Neji. I know I was talking across the classroom…but it still did not give him the right to contribute to this conversation.
“He won’t fly his ass from the land of Iron to kick Naruto’s ass, he’ll probably kick mine for not dodging Naruto’s elbow” I squinted my eyes thinking about Utakata, “He is weird…” I muttered and turned my head back to the desk.
The bell had rung and I put my books back in my bag before getting up. I walked out of the classroom and I was one of the last ones to leave. My next class was only two stairs up. The pros of being one of the last people out of the classroom is that the stairs were less busy. I saw Naruto talk to Lee as they were climbing the stairs. I walked behind Naruto.
“Shit, forgot my phone” Naruto suddenly realized. He suddenly turned around. The movement came out of nowhere and I jerked back as to not bump against him, but of course I was on the stairs and my foot landed on air. I fell backwards and for a moment everything went in slow motion. I saw Naruto’s eyes widened and his hand trying to grab me, but he missed by centimeters. I fell backwards and rolled off the stairs until my body hit the wall.
“Sasukeeh!” Naruto shouted.
“I am alright” I said without even thinking about it. The pain was kicking in fast. My back, my leg…my head…everything hurt so badly.
“I am so sorry! I didn’t know you were…I…owh god…”
“I am alright, nothing to worry about!” I said as I lifted up my torso. That is when I noticed my head felt very heavy.
“No, no, you can’t be fine, dattebayo!”
“Should I get a teacher?” Lee asked, he seemed to panic.
“No…noooo~” I got myself up from the ground. I supported myself on the wall. Yes, my ankle hurt pretty bad. I probably should put some ice on it, but then…I didn’t feel like holding a chicken nugget against my ankle. “I just…need a second” I said while looking around me.
“First his eyes and now his entire body, Naruto, do you really hold some sort of grudge?” Lee whispered, thinking I wouldn’t hear him.
“Sasuke, should I bring you to a hospital?” Naruto asked, “Or home? I really don’t think you should…” He stopped his sentence mid way, causing me to frown.
“Finish the sentence” I demanded.
“I don’t think you should be acting tough, you seem to be in a lot of pain-”
“This is nothing!” I raised my voice, mostly because I was annoyed by both the pain and by the fact that Naruto thought I was weak and needed to ‘go home’ or some shit. I was not made out of sugar! My dad broke his arm once and he didn’t even notice it for two weeks! I am not going to let some sorry ass ankle and some heavy ass head stand in my way of finishing my fucking school day! “I don’t even feel it” I lied, letting go of the wall.
“Sasuke…” Naruto’s eyes looked worried. I wasn’t sure if he just felt bad for himself for being responsible for two accidents in one day, or if he felt bad for me. Like I was some injured deer.
“We have chemistry…we…better get going” I said. I bit down on my lip when I put some weight on my ankle. I grabbed the handrail and I was pretty sure I would have never made it up the stairs if my pride didn’t depend on it.
“Your blouse is dirty” Sakura noted as I sat down next to her. I was never more relieved to just sit down, but even then…my body hurt.
“Fell off the stairs” I muttered. “Not a big deal”
Oxoxoxox
I was relieved when it was finally lunch break. I was leaning most of my weight on my good leg, eating my cherry tomatoes that at least made me forget the pain my body was in for a moment. Only four more lessons and I was done for today. I could go home and just take a hot bath.
Suigetsu was saying something, but I wasn’t paying much attention to it. I put a cherry tomato in my mouth, about to bite it down. A hand suddenly slapped my back. I gasped from the pain, but I sucked the entire cherry tomato in my throat. It was stuck.I couldn’t breath. I wrapped my hand around my throat. I was dying, I was fucking dying by the thing I loved the most…BY THE PERSON I LOVED THE MOST. I looked up with teary eyes at Naruto who was just saying something…I couldn’t focus on what he was saying. He suddenly opened his eyes and looked at me. His eyes widened in shock…like the third time this day.
“HE IS CHOKING!” Naruto shouted.
“GET A TEACHER!”
“HE IS TURNING INTO A SMURF!”
“NARUTO! GIVE HIM THE HEIMLICH!” Sakura exclaimed and I suddenly felt Naruto wrap his arms around me, randomly pushing my stomach.
“I AM NOT PREPARED FOR STRESSFUL SITUATIONS!” Naruto shouted and let go. “SAKURA! GRAB HIS OTHER LEG!” I suddenly felt both of them grab me from my legs and hold me upside down.
“IS THIS WORKING?!” I heard Naruto scream.
“SHAKE HIM AROUND!” Sakura shouted and that was the moment the tomato let loose and I was able to spit it out. I gasped for air and I heard both Sakura and Naruto exhale relieved.
“Thank god!” Sakura looked at Naruto and they both smiled. Suddenly, they let go of my legs, unaware that I was still at their mercy. My head hit the ground directly and I heard both of them shout my name at the exact same time. I hope their high five was worth knocking me out.
I heard my name being called out. I slowly moved my head before opening my eyes. The light hurt my eyes, I figured I should probably close them.
“Naruto…” I whispered. I leaned my head against his chest. I felt slightly happy, waking up in his arms. He was holding me, he was holding me close to him. A smile appeared across my face. “Naruto…” I opened my eyes and blinked a couple of times to get them to adjust to the light. I felt immediate disgust when I saw no one other than Hatake Kakashi. My expression changed immediately.
“Thank god, he is awake!” I turned my head, seeing Naruto. I still remain on the ground, seated on the spot I got knocked out. I think only a few minutes passed.
“This day can’t get worst…” I whispered before turning my head back at Kakashi, “Can I go home?”
Oxoxoxox
I could hear the door open from the living room and I didn’t even need to turn around to know who exactly were entering the house.
“You are home early” Itachi said. I could hear the judgement from his voice, but my body did not have the energy to argue with him.
“Ah, back to napping on the couch, princess, you can be so lazy” I could hear them put some bags on the dining table. They probably did some shopping.
“Yeah…” I muttered. The room was suddenly quiet.
“Did something happen?” Shisui asked.
“I had a bad day” I sighed.
“Sasuke…Sasuke turn around” Itachi demanded. I was not mentally prepared for what was coming.
“Don’t make me” I whined. My body hurt too much, every little movement just made me suffer even more. I felt Itachi’s hand grab my shoulder and he jerked me around and I moaned in pain, I was glad it wasn’t audible with Itachi’s shocked gasp.
“Otouto, what happened?” Itachi asked examining my face. He told me to sit up, but I shook my head. “I am tired” I didn’t get much of a chance to say a lot. Itachi’s hand reached for my shirt and I tried to stop him. “No…stop it!” I hissed, but naturally Itachi always got what he wanted. He lifted my shirt and he gave me that look that was rather familiar.
“What happened?…Sasuke, you have to answer to us” Shisui said. I hated when he did that strict voice.
“I was in school…school did this to me” I chuckled at my own joke, but neither one of them could laugh about it. Shisui helped me to sit up while Itachi grabbed a small light from his pocket and shined it on my eye. He moved his finger, so my eyes would follow. “It was just…I stood behind someone and he moved his arm and his elbow hit my eye…I fell on the ground”
“And that is when you went home? Why didn’t you come to me? Why didn’t you call me? “ Itachi asked rather angry.
“Actually…the story gets worse…” I muttered, “Somebody bumped against me on the stairs. I fell…from the top..rolled to the bottom…hit a wall”
I saw Itachi turn his head to Shisui who just looked at me with an expression that just asked what the fuck was wrong with me?
“Still not done…” I sighed. “Then I was eating cherry tomatoes during the break…and somebody suddenly surprised me from behind…I choked on a tomato…I couldn’t breath…people had to hold me upside down and wiggle me before it finally fell out of my mouth, then…the same people dropped me on my head and I was knocked out…” I said and sighed, “And that is when I decided I should probably go home”
“That person that punched you in the eye…that made you trip from the stairs and caused you to choke and then knocked you out…is this perhaps…the same person?” Shisui asked and I nodded.
“They were accidents, he felt very bad”
“It was the idiot, wasn’t it?” Itachi squinted his eyes.
“No…no…nooooo~ It was this new guy…his name is…” I looked around me.
“Pho…to.”
“Pho…to?” Both Itachi and Shisui looked at one another.
“Definitely Naruto” Itachi whispered.
“Point being! It was just stupid accidents and…I could really use a doctor…I think my twisted my ankle…my back hurts a lot, so does my side…my shoulder…my head still feels very heavy, I think I lost permanent version in my right eye”
“Come here, aniki will take care of you” Itachi said, wrapping his arms carefully around me.
“And I will make you some soup…hopefully, you won’t choke on that” Shisui joked, but I found it too soon to joke about.
Oxoxoxoxox
“Are you alright?” Itachi asked, his hand stroking my side. I didn’t answer him when I was hiding my face in the throw pillow. “Sasuke?”
“I am fine” I said. I had my arms wrapped around my torso while the blankets were still on me. I had gotten some pain killers, so I wasn’t in such a bad shape as I was in the previous afternoon. Yet, I did feel somehow…vulnerable. I just felt like that fourteen years old boy again that was getting thrown against the cupboards by his mentally insane mother. The pain felt right about the same, but it was the visible scars that made me feel like I relived through it all again. I didn’t want my brothers to know…but at the same time I didn’t want to be alone. So, I remained on the couch in the living room that was filled with life again. Izuna was sketching on the dining table, Madara was watching the news, Itachi was on the Ipad and Shisui was doing some paperwork. I could hear the doorbell ring and I looked up. Who could that be at this time?
“I will answer the door.” Izuna said as he skipped towards the door. How could he be so energetic?
“Are you sure you are alright?” Itachi asked. I sighed and moved so I was leaning against him instead of the arm rest.
“How many times should I repeat myself?”
“If it isn’t the blond that hurt my little brother and almost killed him” I heard Izuna say from the hallway. My eyes widened. What was Naruto doing here? I pulled the blankets off me and got up.
“Be right back” I said as I walked towards the door and pushed Izuna away.
“Sasssuu~” He wrapped his arms around me. “Don’t you hurt him even more!” I rolled my eyes and told Izuna to grab himself some ice cream. I sighed and leaned against the doorframe, looking at Naruto.
“I feel…really…reaallly bad about what happened at school”
“It almost felt like a curse” I said. He smiled before revealing the hand he was holding behind his back. “I got you these” he said. I looked at the sunflowers before looking at Naruto.
“Sunflowers, the symbol of human mortality?” I asked, accepting the bouquet.
“Of course, only you would interpret it like that, dattebayo, it is to…cheer you up, y’know…”
“That is very thoughtful, thank you.” I said, “Would you like to come in?” I asked him. He did come all this way…
“No! No!” He said and I wondered why he seemed so scared. I turned my head and caught Itachi and Madara peeking inside the hallway. I shook my head.
“They won’t hurt you” I guaranteed him.
“A car almost hit me…It seemed an awfully lot like the car that Itachi drives”
“Nonsense, Itachi was home since the afternoon” I frowned…I remembered taking a nap…could he have gone somewhere during my nap? I shook the thought away.
“I will just go home…I guess I brought you enough pain as it is” He said.
“I am fine, Naruto…don’t worry about it” I said. His hand reached for my right cheek, his thumb stroking my cheekbone. I couldn’t help but smile. He really felt incredibly sorry. It was actually very sweet. He was such a good guy. I looked up into his eyes.
“Say, if I allowed you to hit me in the face, would we be equal? I mean…I know my elbow hit your eye, I made you fall from the stairs and almost choked you…but you have the strength of four army men…so…It would be kinda equal, right?”
“Idiot” I shook my head, “I have the strength of five army men, don’t underestimate me” I joked.
“I probably should go home” He said and stopped stroking my cheek. I wished he could stay. I kinda liked the attention I was getting from him.
“Alright” I sighed. He suddenly moved closer to me, my cheeks turned red upon feeling his lips place a kiss on my forehead. “I will see ya, dattebayo” He said as he gave me a quick wave before walking off. I closed the door and I had to hold back as to not fangirl in the hallway.
“Next time…I am going to hit him, pavement or not” My eyes widened in shock hearing what Itachi just said.

[ 365 Days of SasuHina || Day Four: Why Didn’t It Happen To Me? ] [ Uchiha Sasuke, Hyūga Hinata ] [ SasuHina ] [ Verse: A Light Amongst Shadows ] [ AO3 Link ]
With how often she’s counted herself as her only companion, Hinata has a habit of letting her thoughts run wild. For the longest time, they were her only means of escape, and entertainment. It’s grown her into a somber, quiet adult: she can sit with only their company for hours without boredom or regret.
Something most of her friends can’t quite seem to comprehend.
Well...except him.
Which is probably the precise reason why it’s him lying beside her in the wee morning hours, still asleep when she finds herself awake. Strange...she’s not sure what woke her. Anything to be sensed would have likely roused him, too. He’s too...on-guard, too careful. But Sasuke still sleeps, visage looking far younger, far more...at ease than when awake.
It’s a view she’s not often treated to, and one she takes every spare moment to enjoy.
Lilac eyes watch him silently, a bit surprised the feeling of being observed hasn’t woken him. But maybe by now he’s used to her stare. Head propped up on an elbow in their bed, Hinata’s lips curl in a soft smile, lounging quietly as she just takes in his image.
It makes her remember - as she so often does - how lucky they are to be here. And not just here - not just in these circumstances, this very moment. But alive. And having what they have. Both with brothers returned to them. Fractured, but happy families. And a loving marriage that - though not entirely without pitfalls - has still proven to make her the happiest she’s ever been.
And she hopes that - for him - it’s the same.
Returning to Konoha wasn’t easy for him. Not after all he lost - all that was taken from him in this place. His family...his home...his lineage and his sense of belonging. Even now, he often reminisces about how - if the rest of his family willed it - he would abandon Konoha in the blink of an eye. His only anchor is what little remains of his bloodline. His brother and his wife and children. Shisui.
And her.
He asked her, once. If she would go with him, should he leave. It took a little thought, but in the end she agreed. Her main concerns here - her clan, and her team - have proven able to go on without her. Hanabi is managing well, especially with Neji’s counsel. Kiba and Shino both revel in their work, and seem happy. Though she knows they would all miss her, and she them...there would be more point in her accompanying Sasuke than staying here without him. She has a future with him. The chance for a family. One outside the jurisdiction of her still rather-strict clan. True, she’s no longer heiress...but Hiashi has still hinted that her marriage and future offspring are still of great importance.
And as much progress as the Hyūga have made...she’d still have no qualms about keeping any children of hers far from them, should the need arise.
Sasuke has echoed similar sentiments, but in regards to the village at large.
Much progress has been made for the Uchiha and their freedom. Their future. Itachi’s pardon - though not supported by everyone - was a big step. And the removal of the previous council members to keep their dangerous politics away from the village’s future. The clans rallied in support, and there’s greater hope for their futures: all of them.
...and yet…
The Uchiha are now a rare breed. Any scrap of their bloodline is sure to be prized...and lusted after by any seeking power or influence. Not to mention the strange happenings around them lately. Anonymous letters of hate, threats carved into front doors, and even shouts from strangers. It’s clear they still aren’t fully welcome in a village they not only help found...but the last few of which nearly martyred themselves for.
...it boils her blood to think about.
It could have happened to any of them. Any of the clans! The mistreatment of the Uchiha - echoed down through their lines after Madara’s actions - would have made any clan seek to rebel against the injustice and cruelty. So few had been allies before Konoha’s beginnings. What if another had been in poor standing with the Senju? Could they have found themselves in the same position?
Even the Hyūga.
She used to wonder the same scenario. What would she have done in Sasuke’s shoes, clan slaughtered by one of their own, left alive seemingly out of pity? And what would her reaction have been to the truth? Would she have sought vengeance? Revenge? Justice?
...at times she almost wished it had been them. The story makes her heart ache and burn in the same breath. Struggling to keep her temper in check, a hand spares to gently tuck hair behind Sasuke’s ear.
...why didn’t it happen to me…?
A heavy breath escapes her, tranquility ruined by her own wayward thoughts. The entire subject is still a sore one...and if it feels that way for her, she can only imagine how it still torments Sasuke. Not to mention the others… Deciding enough is enough for now, she carefully slips out of bed and heads into the kitchen to start some tea.
As she guessed, it’s not long before she has company.
Standing at the kitchen sink and looking out the window with her mug, she sees Sasuke’s reflection in the panes, arms slinking around her waist. “You left me alone this morning,” he rumbles in her ear, throat thick with sleep.
“Couldn’t sleep...didn’t want to wake you. Did I?”
“Mm.”
“Sorry…”
“S’fine.” His nose burrows against the crook of her neck, drawing a deep breath before sighing contentedly. “...something bothering you?”
“Oh, just...thinking too much.”
“You do that a lot.”
Hinata can’t help a soft chuckle. “Call it a habit.”
“What about?”
“...a lot of things. Mostly your clan. And how...unjust it all was. Wondering how I would have walked your path if it had been me.”
“Don’t even say that.”
She looks over her shoulder with furrowed brows. “...but -?”
“You don’t deserve that. Even just in theory. The only person I’d wish it on is myself...because I know I could handle it.”
“I still wish you didn’t have to.”
“But I did.”
“...I’m not sure I could have done all you did. I’m not that...resolute.”
Sasuke sighs, clearly unhappy she’s still talking about it...but indulging her for a moment. “...you’re underestimating yourself, Hinata. You’re far stronger than you think. Though...I don’t know if you’d have made all my mistakes. You’re not that cruel. That brash. But you are strong. In both your skills, and your morals. Don’t ever doubt that.”
Despite the somber topic, she manages a soft smile. “...I try not to. Not anymore. I’ve...come a long way. But I’m nothing compared to you.”
“That’s hardly a fair comparison. But…” She can feel him smile against her skin. “...you are the only one who tamed the most notorious nukenin Konoha’s known...and one of the most powerful shinobi it’s ever seen. If that doesn’t make you stronger than me, I don’t know what would.”
That earns an outright laugh. “You’re ridiculous,” she chides softly.
“It’s true. You’re one of my very few weaknesses.” He gives her cheek a kiss. “...now, I think it’s high time we ate. A day off doesn’t mean lazing about.”
“All right, all right…” She turns to return the gesture. “...I’m sorry if talking about that upset you.”
“No...not anymore. And...we should be able to talk about it.” Sasuke lets his brow lean to hers. “...because I don’t want this fading into obscurity. I want it known. Taught. So it never happens again. And that means between us...because my children won’t be kept in the dark about it, either.”
There’s a slight blush at the implication. “...I agree. Both of our clans have their shadows...and we’re working to bring them to light. So there won’t be any more wondering...it will never happen again.”
Day four! A little late, but I had a rather busy day! Not TOO much to say about this one: just Hinata being her usual introspective self. It's a subject she thinks of a lot, honestly. ALAS sees a lot of canon issues actually worked on, like the Hyūga branch clans, and the Uchiha massacre. So they've both got experience in trying to make things better for their families.      Anywho, that's all for today! I'll see y'all tomorrow - thanks again so much for reading!

Sureen limited herself to letting him talk - sensing that this wasn't something Sasuke had ever really put into words before. Her eyes remained trained to the ground, focusing the iridescent dewdrops which were adorning the blades of grass like pearls.
And while Sasuke was slowly cleaving a way through the muddled, convoluted memories and emotions connected with his brother, Sureen didn't dare interrupt him, afraid it would make him lose his thread. "I'm sorry I made you go back there," she eventually stepped in. "I-I know it… it hurts, to put it nicely. Reliving the same situation over and over, I mean. But then again… I think there's no way to deal with it that would NOT hurt. But - huh?! Oh… oops~"
Sureen suddenly paused, feeling something move right next to her. Her eyes widened in shock as she noticed that she must have placed her hand on Sasuke's arm at some point. She could only guess how long she'd been like that when the other deliberately pulled back from her touch. So she hurried to pull her hand back as well, bashfully looking the other way and crossing both arms in front of her chest. As the moment of shock slowly subsided, Sureen continued, albeit with a low voice, little more than a whisper. "B-but you know… it needs to hurt. It's allowed to hurt. It's a thing that needs time and space… and a way to get out of your system, 'cause otherwise it's nothing but an endless, self-destructive circle. But once you find methods to interrupt the circle for a bit… sooner or later it becomes less unbearable and less… less hopeless. Like its impact begins to shrink, like… like there's land in sight. Well, or maybe that's just me, maybe it wouldn't work like that for anyone else.
"Either way, it really takes a LOT of time and space though. And simultaneously, it takes you to the very edge of your resilience and even beyond. I'm not sure if anyone could actually just hang in there and wait it out until it begins to get bearable. But I know it's definitely not something anyone could do alone. And I know that it's… very obvious and very human… to try and find different, more familiar ways to stop the pain. Like trying to kill yourself or kill everyone responsible, you know." A brief sarcastic chuckle escaped her, and she couldn't help but cast the ninja a telling glance.   "I guess it's boiling down to who we really are, indeed. But after all, my plan to stop the pain like that didn't work… so I ended up with the 'wait it out' version. Involuntarily. Nevertheless I managed to hang in there long enough to get over the worst bit. But that was because… at that point I wasn't alone anymore, I guess." As Sasuke took another break after telling her that his life had taught him happiness was simply out of reach for him, yet he couldn't stop wondering whether his chosen route was worth giving up everything else, Sureen took her chance to reply once more. "Yeah… happiness is a rather fragile, unpredictable thing. But at least those moments when you question everything… as painful as they may be… but at least they prove that you're not just darkness and hatred and revenge. Your real self is way more than that. You know that, right?" Again, she turned towards him and placed her hand on his arm - the former with more assertiveness, the latter on purpose now. This time it was Sasuke who looked the other way. "Well… at least I know. And the good thing is - trust me, your real self is pretty indestructible." With every word, her voice gained enthusiasm. Her hands started gesturing, and her eyes began to shine as she sensed the opportunity to finally let him know what she'd felt ever since their first encounter.
"Which means this is not a one-way-ticket! You can commit yourself to your chosen path all you want, with all your determination, with everything you've got, but your real self still won't vanish. It will hide in the farthest corner so you can't see it anymore, but in fact, it's - ugh. Yeah. Whatever. You don't want to hear a single word I'm saying, right," she suddenly cut herself off and dropped her hands as the waves of Sasuke's disagreement hit her.
"Sorry. I… I wasn't trying to talk you out of it or anything," she explained sheepishly, realizing she'd stepped on dangerous ground. If he wouldn't tolerate one thing it was people trying to convince him how "misguided" he was. "It's just… it's what I see whenever I look at you. That there's more to you," she added, her voice once again reduced to a whisper. He didn't reply. Instead, he started talking about Sureen, about her secret ability that wasn't so secret anymore by now. "Sometimes I think the only burden about it is that it's never mutual. That I'm the only one. I'm wondering if the world would actually be a better place… if everyone had that ability. Or, like, perhaps not a better place, but definitely a more honest one. With less lies, less misunderstandings. Deeper connections. More insight. Well… anyway. Not like we'll ever find out, huh…" she mused, shrugging her shoulders. "Um... but regarding my decision to either stay or leave. I thought about it a lot while I was on my way here, considering all the rumors I'd heard about you." With a sigh, Sureen brought herself back to the here and now, reluctant to disclose the truth.
"I… I can't stay. The obvious explanation would be - I'm not a ninja, I don't have any skills that would be useful for your mission, that could contribute to its implementation. But, in fact, I can't because… as much as your plans serve to save your sanity, Sasuke… they'd sure as hell make me lose mine. "Although it's almost 10 years by now - that they died, I mean - the last thing I could ever do in my life is... t-to help somebody destroy a village. N-no way. Just… no."
The torrent of wind twisted its invisible sway into the miles of forest beyond the coast, winding a misguided lurch of energy into the foliage before dying down. The sea breeze was less forgiving, hauling the spray of salt into the air. Waves silently crashed onto the sand, an almost motionless action as it disappeared into an engulfing abyss, only to be thrown forward once more.
“Space is what I initially needed, but all it made me realize was the cycle of repeat my left was circling me with back when I was in Konoha. Every day felt inclined to bring more sadness into my already unbearable anger I felt towards Itachi. But all those emotions existed due to a lie, the depths of an unfathomable reality I almost wish wasn’t real. He purposely gave me an outlet when I really only needed…” He paused, feeling his grief become heavier, aggressively pushing down on his chest with an intolerable amount of pain. “I needed him. Not this. I never asked for revenge. It’s what I decided to survive. Otherwise I would’ve given up a long time ago. Falling into sorrow is easier than holding onto a piece of choice. It took more out of me than most cared to realize.”
Sasuke nodded when reaching her glance, her eyes forever searching, always siphoning against any will of her own. He knew only what Sureen expressed in word pertaining to her past and it wasn’t too dissimilar to his own. But even a fragment of change can cause an avalanche of lost comprehension. No amount of strained voices could convince him understanding was a two way street. It lacked substance and accuracy when on the outside.
“Familiarity is a form of defense I’ll gladly take to my grave. Waiting for pain to subside or diminish may work for some, even be the only possibility, and in a way it’s a method of surrender when you can’t take anymore. At the same time, it’s not a weakness if it helps. In your case, it seemingly did. It must have taken a resilient amount of strength, but you’re standing outside the shadow of your past. I can clearly see that. Even if it manages to haunt you, it doesn’t define you. Unfortunately, I haven’t reached such an inward conclusion when weighing my vengeance. The complication leads to more contradiction if I cross my goals with my brother’s objective in all this. But I’m not like him. Our worlds were entirely different, unalike in many unforeseen ways.”
He allowed her arm to remain the second time, since she seemed to be finding her voice rather than stumbling through words of indecision to ease him. Her whispered tone, one carefully placed in order to create an unhostile conversation was an effective one. It maintained a calm most refused to use when pounding their ideology into his refutes.
“Happiness can be an illusion set in the mold of any structured lie. As I’ve said, I used to believe in it. My real self might reach beyond the border of darkness, but my mind isn’t as easily swayed as my heart,” he continued when she finished. “Regardless of all those memories or what I was told to be reality, it’s still there, dodging the light. My demons aren’t fully known to lack cruel reminders.”
It might be broken or flawed but his moral compass never held much virtue. When he was a child, striving in the simplicity of a happy life with family, he never anticipated the question of morality. He was too young to think outside the realm of discovery, of proving himself, and even of what the future could hold. But those confines soon shattered, revealing a cold mirror of reflective despair.
Sasuke exhaled, eyes being drawn back. “I know you weren’t trying to talk me out of anything. Trust me, I’ve listened to my fair share from people who try and continue to do so. But unlike you, they don’t comprehend the distance factor when it comes to aiming to locate a sense of clarity, whether I find a negative or positive one. All they want is to return me to a place where I no longer belong.”
It was hard to believe there was anything more to a shallow, soulless being such as himself. The darkness took its fair share of humanity from him. He willingly held tightly onto his reasons, but nothing beyond them. Sasuke’s love and devotion towards Itachi was buried under what he believed to be true. As it was gradually brought back to the surface, it stung.
“If everyone had your ability I think it’d be rather chaotic,” he added with a shrug. “If you consider the scope of your abilities, connections and insight are sure to be given, but in return no one would feel free to their secrets or able to maintain a stable way of growth, fight their inner struggles. Not everyone needs a guiding hand or someone else to pull them through self-discovery. But I can understand. You’re different and that makes it lonely.”
Starved of affection and closeness, what most define as care, it’s the price of being unique. It’s not asked for and doesn’t equate to the trail of living, but it’s there all the same. Being an Uchiha, he’s known the aspect of being overlooked as well as having all eyes preying on his movements.
Sasuke exhaled, the need of distraction tugging at the seams of his mind. It unraveled with precision, ribbons of agony scattered and discarded from the prior night of discussion. In the wake of a new dawn, the particulars could be looked at more clearly, with less aggravation swimming through his veins. He was set. Nothing could alter his decision.
“I expected your answer. I wouldn’t want to drag anyone down with me that wasn’t willing. I still have Taka on my side and they agreed to help me regardless of my shifting objective. I wouldn’t want you to lose your sanity over something so trivial as my own.”
