Or, Cats and the Narrative Parallels of Steve and Cesare

After watching UP and re-listening to the Bigtop Burger soundtrack several times, I'm finally able to put into words while Steve and Cesare are obviously different in terms of personality, presentation, etc., when you consider their stories... they're more similar than you may initially realize.

(Watching the 1998 recording of Cats was also very important here. This will come back later.)

So first of all, what's the first thing that these two have in common, ownership of food trucks aside?

To put it the way Cesare does, they're freaks. They're weird. The only way they are able to fit in with others is by being the head of said themed food trucks, and making the uniforms their employees wear match them.

In other words, they are outsiders.

Even before the narrative begins, Steve and Cesare were shown to be cast aside by others. In "UP", Steve is banished from his home planet because he made a mistake at a crucial time, and the lyrics to Friends In Low Places reveal Cesare "wasn't missed or mourned" after he was killed.

They're both dead to the worlds they once knew.

But then...

"up, up, up, to the heaviside layer" - UP

"I was chosen for a second chance at life" - Friends in Low Places

For those of you unfamiliar with the musical Cats, the Heaviside Layer is the place a single Jellicle cat is chosen to go to at the Jellicle Ball each year to be reborn into a new life. Old Deuteronomy, the role Steve played, is the cat that chooses the one who will go to the Heaviside layer. However, Steve, along with Cesare, is more similar to the cat Old Deut ultimately picks.

I'm talking, of course, about Grizabella.

Grizabella is a former Jellicle cat who tries to rejoin the group, only to be rejected. Act II's opening number, "The Moments of Happiness", is sung by Old Deuteronomy (and was fumbled by poor Steve). It foreshadows Grizabella's last desperate cry for another chance in her big number, "Memory". The other cats accept her, and she is chosen to go to the Heaviside Layer and begin again.

So how does this relate to Steve and Cesare?

Both allude to having a new life, but are followed by their pasts. While Steve is happy with his food truck and his new friends, he is pursued by unknown authorities telling him he doesn't belong and can't belong. Along with being cast out from society millions of years ago, he's now been rejected from doing what he loves twice.

Cesare is almost the inverse. He talks up how he's got new friends (in low places), but he doesn't seem eager to stick around underground, and is vocally relieved that he won't have to be a watcher anymore. Despite being clearly very strange himself, his job is to imprison "freaks and weirdos"- and it might not be a stretch to say he's taken that to heart. Where Steve has no problem standing out, even going out to eat with his employees when they're out of makeup, Cesare insists his own employees make him look less conspicuous whenever he's with them. (Of course, this could be partially because he didn't want Steve to catch on to his plans, but I doubt Steve would have cared, since he had no idea Cesare even wanted to capture him.)

So how can this be resolved? Is there a way to truly begin again?

"Let your memory lead you/Open up, enter in If you find there the meaning of what happiness is/Then a new life will begin" - The Moments of Happiness

This part in "The Moments of Happiness" is sung not by Old Deut, but a cat in the ensemble named Jemima (and then sung again by the rest of the cats). The lyrics and melody are reprised in Grizabella's song, "Memory". She then adds some more.

"Memory, all alone in the moonlight I can smile at the old days/I was beautiful then I remember a time I knew what happiness was/Let the memory live again...

...Touch me, it's so easy to leave me All alone with the memory/Of my days in the sun If you touch me you'll understand what happiness is/Look, a new day has begun" - Memory

"Touch me" has both a literal and figurative meaning here. Throughout the musical, the Jellicle cats are noticeably physically affectionate with one another. They play with other cats while dancing, snuggle, and even greet each other by pressing their hands together. This makes it all the more jarring when the Jellicle cats refuse to touch Grizabella at the beginning- even the curious younger cats are held back from getting too close. It is a visual sign that they do not accept her. After Grizabella sings her song, one of the younger cats reaches out to her and touches her hand. None of the other cats make any attempt to stop her. Then, the Jellicle cats finally show Grizabella the affection they denied her before, letting her finally belong, and of course she becomes the Jellicle choice.

I think, just like Grizabella, what Steve and Cesare need is acceptance and a place to belong. This doesn't mean the whole world needs to say they're okay with clowns, or zombies, or general weird freaks who don't fit in. It doesn't even mean they have to give up the memories of how they got here, be they happy or sad. What they need is to be loved for who they are, and to live without being afraid to do so.

And I think the friends they have are a good place to start.

AITA for not telling my partners I'm a system?

To preface this, I don't use Tumblr and I'm using my partner's account, so I would rather ask this anonymously. Forgive any non-tumblr-isms 😅.

This happened a while ago, but to be honest I can't let this go. I feel so horrible about it despite being reassured and I figured Tumblr, who has a lot of systems/people with DID/OSDD, would be able to give me an unbiased (as much as I can give an unbiased account, anyway) answer.

I, (24M), am a system with one headmate, P, (??). (Neither of us are sure how old he is, since it seems to change on the day). I don't want to get into exactly how I got him, but I believe the term for what we are is "traumagenic"? Sorry, again, I'm not really familiar with everything.

Anyway, I've had him since I was 8, and he's been... well, a real pain in the ass, to be frank. I understand now that he's a defender by nature and was trying to protect us, but when you get expelled from middle school for several physical attacks and almost get sent to juvie you start to resent the guy a bit. He's a bit like a sleeping bear, except if the sleeping bear had one eye open and killed you before you could hurt him.

Back when I got out of my abuser's house and went no contact at age 20, I moved in with my current partners, Bonfire (24M) and Greenhouse (25NB) (names changed for privacy, obviously.) At the time I didn't know them, but they were looking for another roommate and I desperately needed somewhere to live.

So I moved in with just the clothes on my back and my wallet (bad move, I know, but I didn't have anything anyway). I didn't care to interact with them all that much, not wanting P to get defensive and attack them for no reason, but they just kept pushing and eventually I relented and hung out with them some.

"Some" turned to "often," and then "often" turned into "sleeping-in-their-bed-and-sharing-our-clothes." At that point I was too far into it and embarrassed to admit I'd been hiding a whole other person from them in my mind. I wasn't sure if they'd even like me after, what with P's history of violence.

...so I never told them. I did my best to forget about anything that ever happened and tried to just enjoy the future I'd always wanted for myself. Bonfire and Greenhouse are lovely people and I was finally, maybe just a little happy. I'd never been a happy person and I was content to bask in it for as long as I was able.

This, of course, backfired immensely. P and I didn't have the best relationship at the time, with both of us wanting to do very extreme things to get away from the other. He wanted to kick me out and be by himself in my body, and I wanted to kill myself to be rid of him. We've since reconciled and made strides in accepting ourself for who we are- it hasn't been easy by any means, but that isn't the point.

I recognize now that he was afraid of being hurt again, not wanting to get out of that survival mindset in case Greenhouse and Bonfire turned out to be super-secret mega abusers taking advantage of our trust, but I also know what he did after was wrong.

He got physical with Bonfire, screaming at him and threatening to kill him if he got any closer. I don't have any memory of this happening, so some details may be incorrect, and I apologize for that. Bonfire, not knowing that P was not, in fact, me, (coupled with the fact that he's a fucking idiot (meant with affection)), he got closer and tried to talk me (him) down. P punched him in the face and broke his nose, after which he ran out of the house and left me to "wake up" a few miles away curled up under a tree.

P left me a note a few days later that said he didn't mean to break his (Bonfire's) nose, but that he was lucky he hadn't done worse. This, in P speak, is probably the most sincere apology I could get at the time.

To try and keep this as short as possible, I'll summarize what happened next. I told Bonfire and Greenhouse about P because at that point the cat was basically out of the bag. They said they'd wished I'd told them sooner, and that they were a little uncomfortable being in the same house as "the lean, mean, stabbing machine" (- Bonfire) but that they were willing to help me manage him if I promised to tell them everything I knew about how he worked.

I did, and it's been years since then, and now P and I are, as stated before, closer than ever. I recently asked my partners whether or not they were still upset with me for not telling them, and they just said that they weren't entitled to my medical history and trauma (which, yeah, but he did break Bonfire's nose) and that they didn't care because, "hey, we basically got a free dog out of it" (- Bonfire), and "we made a promise to love you, including all the less-than-savory parts." (- Greenhouse).

Sweet, yes, but I think I might be TA because, um, P LITERALLY BROKE BONFIRE'S NOSE AND THREATENED TO KILL HIM? AND IT MIGHT HAVE BEEN PREVENTED IF I HAD TOLD THEM?

TL;DR: I didn't tell my partners about my headmate that's prone to violence and he did violence on them and I feel bad.

(P says hi, by the way, and he also wants me to tell you that he isn't like this anymore and much prefers soft blankets and eating fruit to breaking his family's noses.)

the cats are loose in Amity Park, this is not an arena or anything.

there are a lot of cats but they aren't trying to kill Danny in particular or are unrealistically aggressive, they are just cats, a good chunk of them being kittens or unable to fight, probably confused as to where they've been transported to

they act like normal feral cats do (there is a difference between ferals & strays). they are not smarter (they think cars are animals) or trained any more than in canon, which does not include fighting humans with technology that can trap cats (it is canon that they cannot fight this & do not train to fight this)

the cats do not have special superpowers that can oneshot Danny, because this is not canon in Warriors. they are literally just animal ghosts. i think they have prophetic visions about the clans, but I don't see how this helps them escape Danny's C&R program as it didn't help the last time

Why would Nightwing himself want to be involved with a guy, the son of Deathstroke? It was a moment of weakness. He shouldn’t be involved with you. You were trained to be a hired gun. A mercenary just like Deathstroke, you do it for the money.

He shouldn’t be involved with someone like you who is connected to a person who wants Batman gone. But it hurts to avoid you. It hurts knowing he will have to get you locked up one day.

Though the chemistry you two share is unavoidable. The small talks on the rooftops during Dicks patrol, the cat and mouse chase you two share. But it’s all platonic right? It’s not. But that’s what Dick wants to believe.

He can’t afford to have these feelings towards you any longer.

The thought of you finally having someone in your life that wasn’t just training you to end lives was refreshing. You wanted the daily night meetups to continue. You loved them, being able to have small breaks with a person you slowly grew to love felt enjoyable.

But you had no clue on how Dick was such against the idea.

He didn’t want to be against it.

But he had to. He was slowly melting onto you, completely sticking onto you like glue. Unable to be tore away. He secretly wished you would change.

Change just so he can be with you, how selfish, he knows. Wanting you to change just so he can be with you the way he likes it. When he knew you weren’t going to change just for him, the avoidance started.

Avoiding you at any cost, stopped meeting at your spot. Stopped answering your calls and texts. Started ghosting you. You obviously noticed this. How can it go unnoticed?

The word “read” under every text you sent suffocated your heart. Then the overthinking started.

“You okay?” Read.

“Did I do something wrong?” Read.

The overthinking, did you upset him? You probably said something wrong. He probably needs space! From what though?

How were you supposed to know how he felt? He was being childish. Childish in a way, refusing to communicate, refusing to acknowledge you any longer.

You waited for hours at the spot you two usually always met at. Staying out all night just for a no show. It’s like Nightwing never even existed.

It was just all apart of your imagination. Imaging a friend you finally had who was a hero.

You knew him and you being so close wasn’t the best idea, you two had completely different career paths, but still decided to stick to each other.

Though Dick was the one who broke that cycle. The way he always caught himself staring at you for long period of time, his hand always on you somewhere.

It wasn’t going to work out anyways. He always thought.

He convinced himself that you felt the same about the situation. Manipulating himself just to get out of a situation he put himself in.

Those text messages and missed calls didn’t even matter.

But oh when you caught him. It’s like his whole world crashed;

“Dick.”

His name being spoken from the distance, it was obviously you. You caught him, finally finding him after almost a month. You sounded angry, pissed. You had every right to be.

“You aren’t going to say anything? Seriously?”

Dick couldn’t even turn around, couldn’t even face you after such a long time. The guilt started to wash over him like a wave.

The silence was so loud, the only light providing you was the moon. Gotham was settling down for the night, hardly any noises coming from the city. It was like it was just you two in the whole entire world.

“Did I do something wrong?”

No, he didn’t want you to think that. But he caused it. He caused those thoughts to flood in your mind. He didn’t mean to, but he made it happen.

“No, of course not..” He finally said something, slowly turning to you just to see your face scrunched up with confusion and anger.

You found that hard to believe, did you really not? “Yeah, I ghosted you for a whole month. But you didn’t do anything wrong! Makes sense right?”

That’s exactly what you heard from what he said.

“Really? So, my texts didn’t mean shit to you?” You said, stepping closer towards him just for him to back away, like you were some type of disease he couldn’t risk having.

Dick tried to say something, but stutters only came out. He couldn’t make up an excuse. How was he supposed to tell you?

“We can’t see each other cause you kill people.”

“I can’t be seen with you.”

“It’s just your father.”

“I’m trying to save my own fucking reputation.”

He didn’t know how to word it right. He found it impossible. The silence he was giving you was slowly bringing tears to your eyes.

You didn’t want to fucking cry in front of him, you feel embarrassment fade over you. This situation was stressing both of you out. Oh please, cut him some slack.

“It’s complicated.” Dick mumbled. It was, so complicated. Your feelings, his feelings, they weren’t complimenting the situation well.

Dick not giving you a valid explanation irritated you, it made your breath hitch and just made you go silent. The way he was avoiding your eyes, the way he looked anywhere but you.

“Listen—“ He started, but failing horribly to even complete his sentence. The look of your face just made him carry more guilt.

He should’ve been mature about this, instead of ghosting you he should’ve talked to you about the problem. Surely you’d understand, right?

Probably not.

“We can’t be seen together.” Dick got out.

His words sinking in your bead, the words overlapping in your thoughts. Were you really that bad? That bad that Dick is completely avoiding you?

“You can’t be seen together.” You repeated. “Really?”

“Yes, really.” Dick let out, a slight harsh following his tone shortly after.

• Alastor doesn't understand how you can go without eating meat, seeing as he eats it every single day for every meal.

• Not to mention you've been doing it for six years? He wouldn't be able to, personally.

• "I refuse to believe that you simply stopped eating meat one day and quit all of a sudden. What do they call quitting suddenly again? Ah, yes. Quitting cold turkey."

• "My parents were originally against it since they said meat had important proteins, but after a while, I managed to convince them that I could eat other things for protein. Eggs, tofu, things like that."

• "Why would you do such a thing, though? Meat does tend to have a good amount of protein, after all. I can't imagine going a day without it."

• "I felt bad for the animals."

• "You felt bad for the animals," he repeated slowly, unblinking. "Well, understandable, but also, that's a bit silly!" His smile never fades as he talks. It's clear that he's not trying to patronize you, at least not on purpose, but that he genuinely thinks so. "Animals die all the time by natural causes, be it a car crash or disease or whatnot! There's nothing wrong with eating them before their time. Everything dies eventually!"

• "But true!"

• He had a point there. Nevertheless, he accepts it, but that doesn't stop him from being a bit of an ass asking if you want a bite of his meal before he eats, to which you always politely decline.

• "Suit yourself," he hums as he goes into privacy and begins his meal.

• You really try not to think about what (or who) he eats and his eating habits unless he reminds you.

• He only does that sometimes. Not too often, thankfully.

• But still, you can't help but be a bit curious.

• "So, like, the teeth."

• "What sharp teeth you have." You pause. "Like... do you use them to like... rip into things, or...?"

• "Curiosity killed the cat." He keeps smiling. "But I suppose I'll humor you. I usually prefer to tear those I feast on bit by bit before indulging. It is quite messy, however, when their organs and limbs are, well, flying everywhere and getting all over the walls, not to mention the sheer amount of blood that's spilled when I—"

• "Okay! I get it! You painted a very good picture, thank you!" You didn't that he'd get that specific. Why would he get that specific? You felt queasy.

• "Oh, did I go into too much detail? Forgive me, I can get a bit excited at the thought of meals."

• "It's fine." That doesn't help the fact that you still find it disturbing, and it shows.

• He holds out an arm. "Come along. I know a great place that serves the best vegetarian and vegan meals."

• You latch your arm with his and let him lead you, slightly confused. "But you're not either of those."

• "Yes, but you are. I figured it was time for a change."

• "You're going vegetarian? Or vegan?"

• That gets a tiny laugh out of him. "No, no. Never. I'm simply going to watch you eat and order something for myself. Not eating meat for one meal won't kill me, after all."

• And that's how you two ended up at a restuarant.

• If anyone asks, it wasn't a date. At all. Just a friendly gesture of goodwill.

• He's a gentleman. He obviously paid for both your meals and expected nothing in return.

• You two make it a biweekly thing.

Hii I was wondering if I could get a part 2 of my last request(The male Cheshire cat reader one), basically the same thing as my last request but with Poseidon, Buddha, Jack and Hermes instead?☺️

Sure! I’ll try my best with it!! Also they accidentally put Poseidon but they meant Thor as I already did Poseidon in the first part.

Characters: Thor, Buddha, jack, hermes.

Thor:

You two met through his cousin; Loki, who thought it would be fun to introduce his friend to his cousin to see how he would react as Loki wanted a reaction out of Thor as he’s always so stoic and quiet.

You try to play pranks on Thor like Loki suggested but Thor usually ignores you or pick you up like a cat and put you someplace else and walk away.

It makes Loki pout as Thor usually threatens him or bonk him on the head with his fist so seeing Thor not do something similar to that with you made him pout childishly though this also confirms that Thor does have a reaction to you like he’d hoped for so that’s more than enough as it would give him ammo to tease Thor more, which made you laugh at his thinking process.

You continue to hang around Thor more this time without Loki wanting a reaction as you yourself start to wonder what expression Thor could make and what gets him to make them.

So as the saying goes; curiosity kills the cat, and of course satisfaction brought it back as your results came out to a 100 percent success as you seem to have gotten him to react to some of the things you did and said.

One of the things you did and said was how you would end up having to go to another person to prank and bother as you’ve grown ‘bored ‘ of his no reaction, that got a reaction out of him, a jealous one, it was hard to tell but you were able to detect that it was indeed jealousy that he was displaying which meant your plan worked on getting his reaction.

You teased him once he quickly realized that you were only joking and was lying to him, he thought it would be best to shut you up before Loki heard and started teasing him as well by kissing you which indeed; thankfully to him, as it left you shocked that he did such a thing considering his personality resulted in him teasing you back on why you went quiet, you pouted at him for that before a grin popped back on your face with a chuckle.

Buddha:

You two met through Loki though he didn’t actually introduce you two to each other more like you found Buddha and introduced yourself to him.

Reason why is because you’ve heard so many rants from Loki about how he doesn’t like Buddha and you wanted to find out if it’s just Loki that doesn’t like him or if buddha is a jerk.

You come to find out that Buddha wasn’t a jerk but someone who is like an adolescent but still an adult or in this case a god.

You enjoyed his thoughts and presences, confirming with yourself that it was just Loki being Loki and such.

You two played pranks on each other and others and eat snacks together and did all kind of things.

You kept this a secret from Loki as you knew he would go on about how you were ‘cheating’ on him with Buddha and you didn’t want to deal with that right now which got a laugh out of Buddha when you told him about it.

You two flirt with each other to see who can get the other flustered and in a stuttering mess, Buddha wins almost all the time there was a few times you won but not as much as Buddha.

Jack:

You met jack by accident, you were just teleporting from to places randomly without any place in mind so you ended up in his room.

Jack was obviously surprised to see someone randomly appearing in his room you not so much by how you’ve done this while teleporting bored so it didn’t really phased you.

You decide to take a break from it and leave the normal way but jack stopped you to offer you some tea, you didn’t decline as this might bring you some entertainment and plus you were getting thirsty even if you’re a god and they don’t need human needs you still like to dabble in them.

You and jack talked about lots of things, like how you were friends with Loki and what that brings to the table and about gossip that you heard while being invisible and teleporting to and from places which got a laugh about what you heard from Jack and the prank’s you’ve done and have planned.

You told him about the book that was inspired by your pantheon called Alice in wonderland and even gave him a copy that you had gotten from the human world as it was a good and interesting read.

You two decided to stay in contact and have more of these maybe even invite a few guest to join the tea party once in a while though it’s usually just the two of you most of the time but you wouldn’t have it any other way as it’s fun talking with jack.

Jack also enjoys it as well as he can see the colors you’re making is genuine of how you’re feeling when you two talk and have tea parties.

Hermes:

You and Hermes get along as you both gossip about the latest rumor or what you’ve both heard from yourselves.

You two have tea parties with just yourselves as it’s most likely that whoever you invite is the very person you two were going to gossip about so you both didn’t bother.

You pop in on Hermes many times when he does his job as the messenger of the gods (correct me if I’m wrong on that 😅) and chat as he does so though you don’t talk when you both finally arrived to his destination to whoever he needed to give or receive a message to.

Hermes is always very intriguing about your powers and want to know all about them and what they can do.

You two flirt together with each other nonchalantly until either one of you is flustered but Hermes is always so smooth at it that it always leave you flustered.

You two also talk about the gossip in the human world when you go to visit the human world for fun, you of course convinced him a few times to come with you and hear all the gossips from random humans lives.

You also told him about how you have a book written in inspiration of your pantheon and gave him a copy to read for fun, that’s another thing you two do, you either get books from the human world or god world and have a book session making fun of some of the characters and just talking about it.

What was Napoleon Usher's fatal flaw? the Guilt and Gifts of the Wealthy

I've been sitting on this, but I've seen a few posts associating the Usher children to the seven deadly sins and I've seen him labeled as gluttonous or slothful, and while I see the reasoning I don't think either alone lines up.

So what was Napoleon "Leo" Usher representing?

Let's begin with his role in the Usher family. He was one of the "bastard children," a classic middle child mostly just minding his own. He doesn't have any extreme ambitions and doesn't really bother with the dynamics and drama beyond being there. He runs a video game design company, and seems to do so pretty well (or at least not notably badly or corruptly). In fact, in the first few episodes of The Fall of the House of Usher he's one of the most if not the most endearing and empathetic of the Ushers through his support and guidance of Prospero as Prospero tries to establish a position of his family. He is arguably also the most visibly upset by Prospero and Camille's deaths.

Now, he's obviously not all good. In the classic horror establishing of ones wrongs sequence, we see that he is hiding an affair from his boyfriend, Julius. A woman sleeps with him due to his fame, and he shoves her out on the balcony to keep her from view of Julius. He partakes in several types of drugs, and happily shares them with Prospero, Julius, and Camile. Still, infidelity and drug usage are certainly not great, but are they worth the vicious torment he undergoes? Are they worth the wrath of Verna, who we know only violently kills if she feels one deserves it due to their actions? Plenty of non-wealthy people have affairs and plenty of non-wealthy people use drugs.

Then, we see him violently kill his boyfriend's cat. Well, we don't see it actually. Instead, he wakes up from a drug trip and realizes the cat is stabbed to death in Julius's apartment, assumed to be by Leo's hands. This is striking; why not show Leo in a violent frenzy? Well, the violence is secondary. Instead, the show focuses on Leo frantically cleaning up the cat's body and the gory scene around it.

Leo quickly goes to a pet shelter, where he meets Verna. He wants to replace the cat with an identical cat. Immediately we're shown a darker version of Leo, we realize that he does not care about the cat and does not even seem to think that Julius would not be able to recognize a new cat from his old one. Moreover, he's covering up his crime further. He's hiding the violence. Then, he finds the identical cat. Verna insists the cat is reserved and cannot be purchased/adopted. But Leo insists, aggressively, offering to buy the cat at higher price and, when that doesn't work, by the whole shelter.

In this moment, he dooms himself to a brutal death, and solidifies himself as the flaw of hiding the problem with money. He is the most "normal, well-adjusted" Usher, but when push comes to shove and he fucks up instead of facing them like a real person he can make problems disappear with money.

But I want to go further.

I want to talk about the cat in the walls.

Because although Leo makes his problem disappear with money, he's not the only one to do so. Camille uses her money and influence much more explicitly to spin the media in favor of the Ushers and hide the truth of the Usher's and Fortunado's wrongdoings. So why is he the one cursed into Poe's the Cat in the Walls?

Now, I have not read much Poe, but I know the Cat in the Wall tells the story of a man who kills his cat (also named Pluto like Julius's) when it bites him and is then haunted by an identical cat. The story is often considered a representation of guilt, and how it eats one up even if the evidence of the guilt's cause is hidden. The man in the original story kills his wife as well, and it ends with him hiding the wife in the wall. And in this we see why The Cat in the Wall is Leo's story: Leo's downfall is one of the guilt of the gifts of wealth.

Prior to Leo's death, he is tormented by the cat, who randomly attacks him and gives him "gifts" of dead animals. It is here we see the warped generosity of wealth, how it gives but in awful, gruesome ways. The fake Pluto gives him these animal corpses that Leo has to repeatedly clean up, echoing his initial cleanup of the original Pluto's corpse. More than that, the corpses resemble the mangled bodies of his own siblings: Camille and Prospero. Therefore, the gifted corpses can be said to represent Leo's own grief towards his siblings, whose deaths were both awfully violent and quickly swept under the rug. He's finally seeing the horror of wealth as a solution.

Re-framing Leo's initial wrongdoings under this lens, we see that the issue of infidelity is not the infidelity itself, but the wealth and fame that Leo clings to through his infidelity (i.e. sleeping with his "fans"). The issue of his drug use is not the drugs, but the fact that he uses expensive, designer drugs to repress his own emotions and reality instead of facing them.

As his grief and paranoia escalates, he becomes more and more physically harmed by the cat. These cat scratches are key not for the harm but for the infection. Leo's guilt is infecting him slowly, one cut at a time. One hidden mistake, one disappeared issue at a time. Camille was right that "Ushers don't make things" but Ushers also don't fix things. They just throw money at something until the problem disappears. Even if, as Leo realizes, that problem is one of their own.

This is perhaps best represented with Leo's final moments, when he grabs a hammer and begins destroying the walls of his home, shouting, "I can buy a new wall! I can buy a new loft! I can even get Hemsworth to send me a new hammer!" This is why Leo falls: because even though his distress and issues are a direct cause of his wealth, he's still trying to solve it with wealth. He's still viewing the wealth as a shield even when it's a knife. It is similar to how the photo of Verna changes: he sees a solution (a cat identical to Pluto) when the reality is a rat (resembling one of fake Pluto's corpse gifts).

Napoleon Usher was perhaps the most well-adjusted Usher, but that is his downfall. He wants to solve his problems and help his loved ones, but the shortcut money provides is too alluring. His residual humanity (his care for his siblings and Julius) cries out in him as he tries to cover it up with cash. The sound in the walls was not the cat, but his own conscience.

i have minimal knowledge about the intricacies of Biker Gangs And Their Leaders but i get quite a few biker videos on my explore feed!

he wouldn't have one of the silly helmets that are designed to look like a bunny or cat but enjoys the sight of them! especially if you're wearing one. unless you're like, using the bunny's ears to hit him LOL

revs his engine when asked with little hesitation, especially if it's a kid or group of teens because he enjoys their reaction. sometimes he'll tease the person and pretend like he can't, or he asks what he'll get in return. but he ends up doing it! unless their reaction is annoying.

i'm not saying ais would hide his license plate and have strangers signal to him that cops are coming from the sidewalk but i'm also not saying that isn't a possibility? like if that Did happen, he'd give them some sort of "thank you" signal or nod

if he's riding with a group (not necessarily as a leader, just like, friends in a club) i can see him at a red light, running to turn off someone's engine. not out of malice, but because they were both pranking each other or 'fighting' beforehand LOL

if you're able to ride on the bike, he expects you to ask before he even gets to offer the option LOL. if you can't or you don't want to, he's just as happy to talk about his bike, rev it a little, tell some stories and show off maybe.

the thing is when you ask he doesn't give an easy yes. he's like, you know, i don't really take passengers. you sure you're up for being a backpack? ever ridden before? this is a privilege few have etc etc. but as soon as you're a little nervous, he's reassuring you and promising you'll be fine, just hold on to him and keep the gear on

him coming to pick you up on the motorcycle and making it a whole thing of looking Cool and Mysterious. and you roll your eyes like "Wow You Nerd" as if you aren't also a little flustered

cool jackets...ais in a cool leather jacket... the gloves.... i know his ts outfit works for the summer but biker ais has to put away his heavier gear and it's just a little annoying LOL. autumn fan!

you have to be careful about staring at him when he has his helmet on because he can see you while you can't tell where he's looking. "see something you like?" "how long are you gonna stare?" etc.

ais with his sleeves rolled up, smoking, leaning by his bike. yeah. i mean yeah.

goes on long rides by himself to cool off or get a break. he's found a few hidden away places through it that he takes you to. "are you taking me to the woods to kill me" "? there's a cool cave up ahead, what's up with you"

he ends up at a bar with the rest of his club, and he's swirling his drink around in one hand, the other texting you at home. his friends glance over when he lets out a puff of laughter, or if one notices him smiling at his screen, and he hasn't told them about you, but they can kind of connect the dots that it's somebody that they want to meet.

^ especially if he was a leader. like Oh? who's this keeping him amused and smiling? and you know as soon as they meet you they're making jokes and sizing you up. ais tells them to back off while wrapping an arm around you and moving past them woahhh

you hanging out with him while he fixes or works on his bike. you're so obviously focused on his bare arms and the way he reaches for the tool box that when he finally looks at you incredulously, you're just like. What. and he knowingly smirks before laughing like, can you please stop ogling and pass me the wrench over there?

How do you solve the Orpheus problem?

As in: It’s the elephant in the room in so many canon-compliant or -adjacent fanfics I read (we obviously don’t need to talk about coffee shop AUs) and Orpheus either keeps on existing somehow (and no one cares, because Dream and whatever love interest just literally fuck off into the sunset and pretend everything’s okay), or he gets killed by someone else who quite strictly wouldn’t be able to kill him.

Is it a solvable problem?

If he keeps existing as a severed head, it’s honestly a bit shite for him, isn’t it? So these are the fics where we keep on visiting severed heads. I don’t know, I find that… dissatisfying.

If Dream kills him, it’s over. Unless he stays in the Dreaming and lets the storm blow over. Will it though? I mean yeah, he could sit there for all eternity (groan), not take Death’s hand and make sure he doesn’t conveniently leave so the Kindly Ones get in and start ripping the Dreaming to shreds. But that doesn’t really sound like a solution to me either, because the problem won’t go away. Also: Probably no meetings in the waking world with you-know-who ever again. Plot hole, people, it doesn’t work that way.

If someone else kills him: Who? Please don’t say Hob, I know he’s immortal (so was Murphy), but the very idea is that no one can kill the poor kid because he made a deal with Death, which she apparently can’t revoke. Is there an entity who could? Which links in to the question: Why could Dream (somewhat rhetorical question)? Could any similar entity do it if they also had to grant him a boon? But don’t forget: Can’t be one of the Endless, they’re all family. Unless one sacrifices themselves. I mean, I think I’ve seen Death doing that in a fic somewhere, I think the assumption was she’s okay with dying a mortal death, but I also felt that’s not quite right, since it’s just not the same (also: in her mortal form, she wouldn’t have those powers). Does it have to be The Presence/Glory? Why would they care?

Yeah, he could use the Saeculum I guess, but really? If the problem never existed, it would also feel… wrong? Plus, we all know that changing the past always has implications on the future that go far beyond the thing we want to change. Plus plus: I honestly think it would be a bit OOC for him because he’d feel there’s not enough at stake (like a whole universe imploding) to ever justify that. So no, that’s, IMHO, making him into someone he really isn’t (can of course be an option in fanfic I guess).

Same goes for the Dream of a Thousand Cats Spiel. Someone who is so wrapped up in his duty just wouldn’t do that for his own personal gain, and not even for one loved one (he also wouldn’t be allowed to kick it off by telling anyone, and what 1,000 dreamers would dream that? I mean, WE all would, but that’s a bit… meta?😂). I said what I said.

Or is it some sort of magic? Like, he’s still a severed head, but we make him *think* he isn’t, give him back a body (in his own mind, or maybe even for real)? But that’s also… not great and feels like gaslighting him. Really not keen.

So what say you?

Is this just a case of: Unsolvable problem, hence we might as well pretend we solve it in some ridiculous way or pretend it doesn’t exist in the first place?

Crossroads of the Usher Children: Pt. 1

To preface this: I think whatever Verna is, it's clear that, first and foremost, she’s a creature of choices and consequences. I kind of disagree with the view that it’s off-putting that Verna would be both compassionate and cruel to the Usher children. It does make sense that Verna would be sympathetic because although most of the Usher family (save for Lenore) are not good people, none of that is why they have to die. None of the kids were able to have any say in that decision (most of them weren’t even alive!).

But although Verna can’t prevent their deaths, she can make it a peaceful one – but that all relies on the choices the kids make. Since most of the Usher family doubles down on their worst impulses, she, in turn, is cruel. A creature of symmetry, as she puts it - choosing to act as a sort of crossroads, so to speak, where the manner of their inevitable death is determined by which path they take.

Prospero/Perry Usher: She appears as a mystery guest, prompting Perry to follow her into the bedroom, and tells him directly that there’s still time to stop it, to be satisfied with what the party has been so far (implying he should stay with Verna). But Perry makes his choice to not do so, and ends up dying from the acid in the tanks.

(Personally, I think the last kiss Verna gives him as he’s dying is what she would’ve done to kill him if he’d decided it was enough – just have him die of more or less natural causes during the party, at the high point of being so close to achieving something). Instead, his last moments are full of horror and pain.

Camille L'Espanaye: Verna’s the security guard, telling Camille she doesn’t have to go back there to see what Victorine is doing with the chimps. But Camille does so anyways, because she hates Victorine and wants to find evidence of her doing something wrong – so focused on doing that she doesn’t even realize one of the chimps is out of the cage. Then, as we know, she gets mauled to death by that same chimp.

Napoleon/Leo Usher: Verna is obviously the cat shelter worker/owner, but I’d argue her first interference was with the cat illusion, where Leo thinks he’s killed Pluto while on drugs. This one is interesting to me, because it shows that Verna is deeply knowledgeable about what people will typically do.

Most people will hesitate to say “Hey, honey, I think I might have killed the cat in a rage while I was on drugs last night” and might actually say what Leo initially did – that maybe they accidentally let the cat out. So, his “crossroads”, observed by Verna, was to either save another (or all, even!) of the cats in the kill shelter, but he chose to only get the one that looked just like Pluto in order to pretend that nothing happened to the cat and erase any of his responsibility for doing something bad.

Of course, we know by the very end of the episode, that Pluto was indeed accidentally let out, and appears by Leo’s body. Similar to Perry, if Leo had decided to stop and not try to get a Pluto doppelganger, he wouldn’t have died that way.

OBVIOUSLY jean would not want that because he feels like hes just being bought by another person (but a more healed jean might not. Depends on when it happens tbh)

And omfg,,,, yeah jeremy is probably very rich since he has a butler and a personel chef (which I find are VERY expensive in america for some reason. Especially such good ones) his family even has connections to congressmen. So to think he could probably pay off the mafia is a bit exaggerated, and it would take millions (jeremys entire bank account probably)

And its so,,,,, UGH can you Imagine how it would go. Neil would probably have to be present to help handle it (neil is officially jeans agent to handle mafia business imo)

i think the jean now, that we’ve met after tsc1, would be fucking pissed if jeremy bought his freedom. i think he would not feel…safe? around jeremy? because— now that he owns me, he can do anything he wants to me. i think that it would put such a rift in the precarious trust they’ve built. even at the end of tsc, jean tells jeremy “i trust you” and immediately thinks i have no choice but to. and then is like wweeeeelllll that doesn’t exactly feel true though. so i think jeremy doing that would be like a ‘what the fuck, was not expecting that’ moment.

but jeremy. jeremy. we have seen that if he has the means to do something, he will do it. let me push away my familial issues and answer lucas’s call. do you feel safe with your brother? he would have picked lucas up. he would have found somewhere else for lucas to stay. i will focus on others’ problems so i do not have to face my own. i will be your partner. i will buy two twin beds and move into your room.

so, sorry, to backtrack: i think jean will eventually tell jeremy the full truth. i think jean won’t be able to stop himself, same with his other confessions—i didn’t ask. they didn’t know. jeremy asks the right questions with so much care that jean’s mouth starts moving before he thinks through what he’s supposed to say. jean subconsciously feeling safe enough to speak freely around jeremy, cat, and laila is a WHOLE other thing but i digress

and jeremy will go into “fix-it” mode. will call kevin with the idea. and kevin will be like “do not fucking do that” and i think neil will somehow get involved (especially if jeremy went through with it anyway. neil will go just to make sure jeremy does not, y’know, get fucking killed. also? how do you contact the mafia?). jean will also tell jeremy “do not fucking do that.” 1, because. this is the. this is the fucking mafia. they could absolutely kill you. they could say, “aaaah. yeah, you can buy jean’s freedom, but [insert damning terms that indebt you to us.]” and you can’t just…deny the mafia. it’s a suicide mission. and 2 because…jean doesn’t think he deserves it. he’ll think he’s not worthy of it. i don’t think he would be able to fathom the word ‘freedom.’ i think he would think of it, exactly like you said, as being bought. passed from one owner to the other.

and, if jeremy did it, he would reassure him. would be like “no you can make your own decisions. you can do what you want. you can change your major. you can play exy for fun or go pro by choice.”

and jean, i think, would just crumble. he obviously doesn’t like being owned (who does) but that’s all he’s had for 5 years. that’s all he has survived by. i am jean moreau. i belong to the moriyamas. imagine the mantra that has kept him alive for 5 years just…not being true anymore. he would be going from who am i without the ravens? to who am i without the moriyamas? like you said, what a fucking existential crisis.

i genuinely think it would fuck up their dynamic. i think jean would feel like he owes jeremy something. and jeremy would tell him he doesn’t. but i don’t think jeremy would quite…trust jean in a romantic sense. like, is he just initiating [romantic or sexual act] because he thinks he owes it to me? or even as a friendship, honestly. is he just agreeing to [friend activity] because he thinks he has no choice but to listen to me?

so jean wouldn’t be able to trust jeremy because he would feel owned, and that’s trauma baby. and jeremy wouldn’t be able to trust jean because he would feel like jean is, well, trauma responding. fawn, freeze. agree, acquiesce, repent.

so yeah it is grounds for LOTS of angst and … i’m having many thoughts.

maybe these thoughts would change after tsc2 comes out, but either way, i definitely do not see jean being particularly grateful or thankful. i see it as jean being like “you are a fucking idiot” and “why would you do that to yourself” and “why would you do that for me”

oh hey and imagine if they have the “what were you thinking, why would you do that” conversation and a love confession happens. and jeremy is like “bc i fucking??? love you??? [or something]” and like??? it would be so conflicting for them BOTH because jean [in the case that he does love jeremy back]: do i say i love you back. do i push him away for his own safety. but i don’t want to be ungrateful (and get punished), and jeremy: oh god. he’s going to think he needs to say it back. how will i know how he actually feels.

and i almost forgot about the money part of it ok—

yeah so i think the only way ichiru would accept jeremy’s deal was if they calculated how much a pro exy player’s salary and multiplied it by… let’s say a 10 year career? that would put jean at roughly 30ish when he retires? i think they would be like “ok, pay us for what we would have gotten for jean’s career.” (if they even entertained the thought).

dude i cannot even conceptualize how much money that would be. millions upon millions. and i guess jeremy could pay them in increments? but? idk. i did the math for like if jean made a million a year but my fucking brain. hurts. so i can’t get into that

but YEAH!!!

oh the angst. especially if jean said “there is no fucking way in hell you are doing that” and jeremy said “okay i won’t” and did it anyways …..

there’s also the thought that jeremy just…didn’t tell jean he had bought his freedom. if he just let jean live thinking he was cut loose. but then. the guilt jeremy would feel, keeping that information from him. jean has never been able to make his own decisions, and here he is, building a life for himself and not even knowing the real reason why he’s able to do so.

would they just be able to talk and move past it and rebuild that trust? would this be like some kind of fuckin shakespearean tragedy???

in this hc i just have to believe that they work past it and communicate because. holy shit this is messy

everyone mentioned here is in their 20s, with the youngest being 21 and the oldest being 28. none of the names used here are anyone’s actual names.

this is kind of a long story with a lot of moving parts and i can’t get into ALL of it so im trying to section JUST this off. basically i’ve had a group of friends for awhile. we met in a larger server and its a pretty big circle, so there is interpersonal drama aplenty. i stepped away from the bigger server and mainly maintained contact with 5-7 friends id made through a personal server and dm conversations.

one of the people in that server, erin (she/they) dm’d me to tell me they had to leave said personal server because they’d had a bit of an incident with 3 of the other members. they ended up telling me that they and the other 3 members had a group chat where they’d regularly talk shit about another person we know, bryce (he/him). apparently they all took something he said months ago WILDLY out of context to claim he’s a transmisogynist and therefore its fine that they bully him (this guy isn’t someone i’ve talked to very much since leaving but i do know him and we are on good terms. he can be a bit difficult to maintain conversations with but he very much is not a transmisogynist. also none of the people in this gc are transfem). like, they conspire in this group chat ways to make him feel bad. erin showed me some screenshots. its pretty textbook highschool mean girls behavior.

erin was also in this group chat and finally got fed up with them all and told them they need to stop trying to justify their actions. its pretty obvious bryce is not the bigot they’re saying he is and they’re just using that as an excuse to be cruel. the people in the group chat did not take that well so erin left and has also left any mutual servers they’re in with them.

she only told me all this because i offered to let her vent, but now im in kind of a rough spot morally. i think the correct thing to do here would be to let bryce know, but im being. kind of a coward about it.

this all may sound like im just throwing myself a pity party, but i am in a very, very bad spot right now. like i said, there was a ton of interpersonal drama in this group and i’ve been in the center of it before. it took a massive toll on me. so im not keen to get involved in drama in general, but also, mainly. i lost my best friend (minze, she/her) to cancer at the start of this year. i’ve known her since childhood and i’ve barely been able to function without her. we lived together. i still take care of her cat. we had the same birthday, and its coming up in a little over a week. i’ve been absolutely gutted knowing this is the first birthday ill spend without her in over a decade. i tried to kill myself a couple of weeks ago because i couldn’t bear the thought of it. i failed, obviously. and im fine at the moment but im definitely not perfectly well and im barely hanging on by a thread

i left the larger group because i couldn’t stand to be involved with everything going on. if i tell bryce about this group chat, i will be getting involved again. i dont think they know i know about it at this point but the only people who could tell him would be me and erin. even if i did it anonymously or asked him not to tell it would be incredibly easy to trace back to me. while im appalled to know my friends have been so viciously cruel to someone for no reason, since losing minze these people have been my only support network. they all knew minze, too. they’re some of the only people i can share memories of her with. i dont think i could process this grief alone

i know i need better friends but i don’t have them right now. i’ve sort of already got a strained relationship with some of them and i worry this could be the last straw and id just… lose them abruptly. and i know if that happened id put myself at risk again, because id be just as heavily suicidal but now with no one to confide in about it

Aira Character Talk

Since Aira was mentioned again in Saltyplaytoons (spongebob reference? Lol, funny either way) blog post I wanted to take a deep dive and talk about her. Plus at this point she’s the only pure character that deserves to be rescued from this shit comic and not written by a misogynist. She get’s shit on for no fucking reason. 

It is very well known now that kique has stated that she is his “least” favorite character. Why? Probably because she’s another female character he made and got bored of her. Honestly it saves her the injustice he would have given her if she had more screen time.  When we first met Aira, she was stuck in her creature form. I thought at first she was an evolved creature that was based on Aedra and her beast form was pretty cool in my opinion it looked like a mix between a cat and a dog. Which btw people was made and turned into by a Spirit, so that quickly leads my thoughts into rhov’s and feaf’s future kids. If a spirit can turn a dog into an evolved creature, then it’s very much possible because of the spirits for them to have hybrid kids. Will it be canon? I don’t know, like many have said; it’s obvious kique is bored of his own comic and shoved into our faces just to keep pages being pumped out with nothing really interesting. For me, I see the comic as a sitcom show that just goes nowhere and the characters do and say random stuff that doesn’t revolve around their world or plot. Besides, you can’t tell me half of the characters in this world wanna sit cooped up in one area based on “Tribes” Dog’s just don’t do that they would have way too much pent up energy and would need to run. Can you just imagine if this comic was realistic,  the dog's muscles and bone structure would become weaker because they aren’t doing anything really, they just sit in one place and that's it. Ok sorry, back to Aira :)

You see what I mean though? She resembles a sorta dog and cat hybrid mix. The paws are a dead giveaway as they look like a feline and she has retractable claws. It’s a neat design in itself. I'll give kique that much of any positivity for his comic XD. 

Very Interesting design features if you ask me. Anyways, Aira gets killed by kargo and she wakes up a normal dog again and sets off into the woods to heal her wounds I guess? Probably also went to seek shelter maybe. We later on see her again on page 138. Heavily bleeding still and this when she meets keirr and you know how it goes. He ends up helping her and she’s taken aback from being surprised I guess, which is quite valid of her character, as we do eventually learn about her backstory and she was never treated kindly by others. Aira is a character who’s a really good example of someone who would have a “fixation” on someone, I don’t think it would personally be a bad thing and realistic to her character because she’s never been treated so kindly before and i don’t think she’d be able to help herself with that mindset. She obviously took comfort in keirr  as she hesitated to follow him at first, but also because he was offering to help her and wasn’t appearing a threat to her.

Moving forward. Keirr takes her back to her cave and was suspicious why she was living in such a large area for one individual. Aira remains mute and just eats the food she was given. Which I suppose was rude on her part, but her communication skills seemed to be lacking as she was trapped inside a body and couldn’t talk for a long time, ok at least that makes sense because there is a valid reason enough for her to be doing that. Eventually keirr leaves her behind as she is now safely placed back into her sheltered area. But she ends up following him and keirr ends up venting to her about why he couldn’t go back to his family, he was understandably grieving over zilas. I find these next few parts important to Aira’s character. She willingly sits there even if not knowing him for not a very long time. But she sits there and listens to him vent and doesn’t question him, that’s just an empathetic thing and it's wholesome to have seen that in the comic as they being the characters actually talked about things that troubled them, and it didn’t lead to sex confrontation. She may not have known him very long, but she’s a character that gives off a warm and comforting vibe, like a friend you can tell anything too without her judging because she obviously cares about others. 

Later keirr ends up following her and getting to know her more. Then we see a page with them together and keirr is giving her physical therapy? 

(hey keirr how do you know about PT?). They end up jumping over some logs to strengthen her legs or whatever. Kinda pointless in a way if she was born with a weak structure. It’s like saying you can just magically cure a dog with mobility issues with just some PT. Wellll nope, it’s much harder and time consuming. Plus it won't fully heal someone with a physical disability, it may help strengthen her a bit, but she wouldn’t be able to fully walk normally. Compare it to a dog who was born with swimmers syndrome or cerebellar hypoplasia. That’s a lot of PT work and also medication in order for them to walk to a degree. It’s not something that can fully be cured, so Aira’s 180 later on would be really stupid when the author wrote her this way. 

Now the next page (198) is important, keirr states he has to go back home cause he’s been gone for too long. Aira very clearly goes into panic mode and begs keirr to stay with her because she clearly states she doesn't wanna be “Alone” She’s told to basically just shut up and he’ll return soon whenever. Again Aira panics and kisses keirr forcefully. 

Now I find that quite sad and interesting for her. I’m not a therapist or a physician by any means. But this is my own take on this situation. Aira is using a tactic that almost feels like she is forcing her own affection onto keirr, not being in control of her own body due to her panicking. In a way, yes Aira did sexually assault keirr and he had every right to confront her about it because it was wrong of her. He leaves her behind anyway to go back to his family. Aira is then left with what looks like the expression of shock and most likely guilt because she’s being left behind again and most likely processing stuff in her head. I'd like to believe that her mind is very scattered due to her having issues of being left behind. 

We then proceed to see Aira again and most likely took keirr’s words to heart and goes back to the spirit of strength because she feels weak without and can’t survive. She practically feels hopeless without that spirit, keirr stops her and then asks was it because of him? Keep that in mind. Aira is obviously upset in this scene and then tells keirr her back story and the things she did. She basically claims that she went back to the spirit because of Keirr, she was upset. It’s like if someone told you as a person, that you weren’t good enough for them, nor did they want you around them because to them you felt like a burden. I wouldn’t be surprised if Aira was the first dog in the comic to commit suicide because she deems herself as a burden and was never accepted. If the spirits didn’t exist and the comic took more of a dark turn, I think she would have been a character to have that type of mindset. 

Eventually keirr takes Aira under his wing with a better understanding of her to a degree. She proceeds to then help him look for his family as she’s apparently traveled all over the map while being a beast at the time and saw many tribes fall and create new ones. We meet the deer rp tribe and then kique puts them there because he doesn’t know what to do with them at that moment. Aira is then very clearly seen to be hesitant and doesn’t wanna join them because they were just going to ask if they saw family members of keirr’s. But then the 180 happens and they join anyway. Keirr becomes a dick and then judges fucking Aira behind her back  because of the jarl confronting her leg structure. Yeah hey morons, maybe she's struggling because she got a giant ass heavy deer rack strapped to her head and has weak legs, antlers are not light things. Of fucking curse she’d be struggling. 

Honestly that’s when I started hating keirr the most, like why the fuck are you jugding her? She literally told you she was born with a mobility disability and was tossed aside for it. *sighs* She ends up stuck with Keirr as a Herbalist, like kique? The fuck man, how stupid can you be. You made a character with a physical disability who struggles with that and you give her a rank that requires to walk a lot? Like what? She’d be a terrible herbalist because she’d probably take much longer to even get to a location and back to the tribe. She has to carry her weight around. How frustrating, it’s like he literally forgets his own character traits they have. Like if you didn’t wanna deal with a character with a disability then why give her one if you're gonna 180 it.

Page 481. The page that did it all for me and hated this dude's guts. Ok so even if Aira did end up stuck in a tribe she didn’t wanna be, plus she looks absolutely miserable in the panel. She literally got excited when he returned with bootleg kargo after their little flirting session or whatever that was.

Like damn keirr, you should be fucking honored that someone likes you for you and your company, plus she was even worried about you. He could have easily just told her he was being sent to scout, like keirr did you not forget that you joined the tribe when you didn’t have too? Like at all. Aira stated to you that she didn’t wanna be there and wanted to go back to looking for your family. But whatever, he gives her the cold shoulder and tells her to suck it up and build connections with a tribe of strangers. God I really want to just rewrite this page at times. Keirr should have welcomed her with open arms (or paws) and told her about his travels and that he didn’t find what he was looking for unfortunately. Like why did you diss the only character who showed remorse and care for you. She obviously likes having you around and because you took her under your wing, you have no right to be a moody dick to her. This is when I see abandonment issues come into play. As someone who has abandonment issues myself, Aira is so frikin relatable. It hurts a lot when you think about it and you're stuck in your head wondering what you did or if you're doing something wrong to have someone push you away like that. It’s the worst feeling ever and poor Aira here basically got rejected from someone she clearly cares about. 

    (She looks so lost and heartbroken in this page)  But like keirr, dude how the fuck did you forget that she told you earlier on before you joined the stupid tribe. That she literally went back to the spirit because of YOU. That’s basically her struggle, Rejection and being alone. I’m disappointed that some of the people were siding with keirr on this page. In reality if a friend asked about your mental health and you told them to fuck off in, just because your moody. Then be damned if they leave your ass. That's such a shitty thing to do to a person. Aira is no exception and didn’t deserve any of that. And sadly it only gets worse for her as even when he did do that, she still looked out for him and had to save his ass from a ghoul.

I’d also like to point something out. But in a certain page, Aira claims she lived with the meteor tribe. I’m unsure if she was referring to a beast or when she was a normal dog before cursing herself? 

If that’s true then could Aira quite possibly be a victim to rape as well? I didn’t think much of it at first because the wording confused me for a while. But going back it made me think. If she was used by MT before arenak rules then she’s very much understanding when it comes to her trauma and issues she has. In conclusion Aira seems like a complex character with her own trauma and if it was written better, it would have been interesting to see her overcome her said trauma. She’s a literal victim, a lot more than what kique claims rogio and his “mental chains” bullshit. Aira didn’t have a choice in her life,she didn’t ask to be born the way she was or have to deal with not feeling wanted by others. I feel if kique actually knew how people worked when it came to trauma and one’s mental health and emotions. Aira and keirr could have been a great duo for each other and helped support each other as friends and grew a good connection based on needing each other in a certain time because they were struggling. Sexual intercourse during trauma isn’t something that’ll help someone. It's only a distraction really at the moment. But again it shouldn't be a way out when you're in your feelings and all that. It’s quite unhealthy. I’ll say it again, Aira deserves better and needs out of this terrible comic.

Dude tell me your thoughts about Daniel Cain + any headcannons??

hi what greatest ask i’ve ever received because all i ever have are thoughts about daniel cain. sorry this is gonna be an essay. um.

tldr - dan cain is a super fascinating character (especially when you read him as queer) and his high empathy makes it difficult for him to make the hard but necessary choices found often in the medical field, but easy for him to be manipulated by those he thinks can help him do the most Good. also he is not immune to herbert west. full post under cut and it’s pretty good you should read it.

ok first off he is literally JUST like me for real. but second. i really think he’s a fascinating character no matter how you read him. his empathy is Soooo high and it affects literally everything he does - sometimes for the worse cause he’s a doctor and honestly cannot afford to be getting this upset every time he loses a patient. but it’s part of him, which i think makes him a super interesting counterpart to herbert. he’s so distinctly Human and he cares so much about the people around him, and he’s a horrible doormat/people pleaser. this is, obviously, not at all like herbert. narrative foils oooooh. when i met bruce abbott he told me he thinks dan is a “spineless worm”, which may be technically true, but i think the way dan is so easily convinced to go along with herbert is because of this heavy empathy. he wants to do everything within his power to make things better, and what could really be better than conquering death? how much pain could he stop just with that?

because of that, i think it makes SO much sense that it was so easy for herbert to initially manipulate him into working together. plus i also think later on in the films his feelings for herbert get in the way of his judgement to. an incredible extent. herbert just has to ask and dan will immediately be at his every beck and call. hes like a dog. he wants out but he can’t stop coming back to herbert. i struggle to find any other way to explain why he’d still be living with herbert after the first movie - after all, herbert kind of did kill everything dan ever loved (girlfriend, cat, legitimate medical career). and i think these things affected him on a really deep level (which. yeah. obviously) but the way he acts in bride is so indicative of what that kind of trauma does to a person and it’s fascinating to me. he projects so hard on to gloria because of how guilty he felt for not being able to save meg. he shuts down in a lot of the more serious situations. sure, he did have his little going into shock moment in the first film, but it’s a reoccurring thing in bride. he doesn’t seem to have such a strong moral code anymore, but that empathy is still there - even though what he’s doing with herbert and their little bride project isn’t quite morally Right, all he really has left is herbert and he is dying for a way to get back to the normalcy that herbert has pulled away from him. and yet, he’s never able to really Leave. he can’t move out, he can’t stop helping herbert, he can’t really get meg back as much as he tries. but he’s too far down the rabbit hole to really care at this point. he just cares about getting what he loves back.

and sure. did he abandon herbert at the end of the first movie for meg? yeah. did he abandon herbert at the end of the second movie for francesca? also yes. did he rat herbert out to the authorities? yes (but that’s a character choice i simply cannot get behind he would not do that shit after everything he still does obviously love and care about herbert if he was gonna be a narc he would have done it after the first movie herbert didn’t even do all that much wrong in the second movie like come on he was just getting creative. whatever. anyways.) now, his choice to save meg in the first movie makes a lot of sense, in my opinion. he assumed herbert was dead (which. not a bad assumption tbh) and meg was his girl - it makes a lot more sense to save her than someone he hasn’t known for nearly as long. but when he chooses to escape with francesca and leave herbert behind, it’s a little bit jarring. he’s obviously gotten close with herbert. they still live together, they bicker like a married couple, and if we’re being honest he kind of follows herbert’s every command. again. like a dog. and plus! they just created life together in a quite homoerotic fashion!!! why in the world would dan fumble this?? well, i think i can explain it. herbert represents a lack of societal normalcy. think like doctor praetorius in the bride of frankenstein. herbert’s heavily queercoded, he actively defies god, he kills and he disrespects the dead and he’s terrible socially and he shoots up drugs (sorta) and he is all about medical malpractice. this is the opposite of what someone like dan SHOULD want. dan’s straight passing (or straight if you want to read him that way which i don’t recommend cause otherwise this analysis doesn’t make as much sense), kind and friendly, and wants a good, normal career in the medical field. and he loves his perfect girlfriend. meg (and later francesca) represent these “good” and “normal” things that dan wants and is expected to want. herbert, again, represents the opposite. so for dan to choose herbert and save him over either meg or francesca, he would be choosing to step away from the life he is “supposed” to live, the socially acceptable life. people are already suspicious of him and west as we see in the novelization of the first movie, and to save his visibly queer strange little “roommate” over the woman he’s supposed to love would have certain implications that would draw dan away from this life of normalcy that he wants so badly. but most importantly. herbert always comes back. he’s a part of dan that can’t be escaped.

well. that was a lot. headcanons. umm. i think you probably got a lot from the novel i just wrote but here’s more.

- i loveeee the dan starts smoking after meg dies hc

- i don’t believe he ratted on herbert. i think they’re still working together making freaky shit to this day. even as old men.

- i know i just said queer the whole time i was talking but he’s bisexual and you aren’t allowed to disagree with me. herbert’s gay though. emphasizes the differences between them - dan CAN choose that “normal” life but herbert can’t.

- i think he ends up needing glasses as he gets older. he wears em to read in the first movie and i think his vision declines.

- also he goes grey earlier than herbert imo cause of all the stress. herbert makes fun of him for this but herbert’s hairline is. ummmn. less powerful. so dan has ammo to fight back.

- i don’t think he’d ever be able to get a cat again after rufus. or really any pet. i don’t think he trusts himself not to damage everything he touches

- i think he’s a huge talking heads stan. you could argue this as canon because of the stop making sense poster above his bed, but i think he’s a super fan. and maybe i’m projecting. so what.

- no matter how many times herbert does it or offers it to him, he refuses to take any of the reagent.

Lack of self acceptance is keeping me from seeing these characters in full blown romantic relationship, but I don't mind - the sweeter that glass will be to chew on, when everything goes south.

Gortash didn't expect bhaalspawn to be a gnome and never really got used to it, since she doesn't look nor behaves like a cold blooded killer bhaalspawn is supposed to be. But in due time he realized that it is even more dangerous: Durga demonstrates not just charm, but care and affection that barely anyone can remain indifferent to. She easily becomes the one person from whom you wouldn’t expect a dagger in the back and definitely wouldn't want to. Though she probably can come up with something more original.

Your mom is less reliable than Durga is! Which in case of Gortash is even true.

A small gnome woman with pleasant voice and soft caress makes anyone forget what she is. Not so many people even saw her slicing and dicing. Not because she doesn't do it - she enjoys it greatly quite often, that's a ferocious cat that ignores her small size and ready to take a bear - but to preserve that unthreatening image of herself. Well, even if they did see... I imagine her to be a very good liar. To explain how persuasive she is, I'd say, in a room full of dead bodies where she will be standing with a bloody axe in her hand, you ask her who killed all those people and she will say "It sure wasn't me" and roll nat20. It's an absurd example just to get the point across, but you get me.

So yeah, Enver of the past did forget quite often. Didn't say it out loud and was right about not doing it: Durga is always quick to remind. Caring mommy image is just an image. Though there is some sincerity in her kind actions, she is able to snap to a furious cunt in an instant and get back again just as fast (I have a scene in mind just for that). There's a question in the list "what your Tav's greatest talent". Well, it's acting. This sweet voice changes into growl real fast, always smiling face distorts, someone gets a lethal blow and all of a sudden sweet voice and smile are present again, everything is happening so fast it's hard to comprehend. And if you really think about it (despite me explaining it so poorly probably), it's quite creepy actually. I think it's creepy. You never can tell when she will switch.

Couldn't say she's acting all the time in front of Gortash. She's just positive towards him in general and willing to get him to the end of the plan by whatever means. Nevertheless he received some unexpected hard slaps on the face as well. Non lethal, obviously.

I didn't decide yet if I want them to develop romantic feelings for each other, but even if yes, none of them would know what it is and definitely not Durga nor Gortash would act on them. Durga is willing to praise Enver's genius now and again, saying she can't help but appreciate the design of what he's organizing at the moment, but it's really nothing compare to feelings she asked Bhaal forgiveness for.

Ranger Series Operators Headcanons

Ziggy isn't an orphan, he has a father. His father runs another cartel and has been quietly running it underground so far that not even the other cartels have heard more than whispers of.

Dillon and Tenaya's birth names are Daniel and Genevieve

Tenaya's implants are more complete than Dillon’s so once Venjix is defeated, she remembers everything. Dillon's memories come back slowly

Summer, Scott, and Flynn are ride-or-die friends. They'd hide bodies for each other if necessary and can communicate without speaking if necessary

Dillon thinks he stayed in Corinth for Summer, under the impression that she was the one who hooked that first fight into the satellite for Dillon’s borrowed car. Ziggy, forever the king of playing himself down, doesn't correct Dillon, he's just happy Dillon stayed.

None of the Series Operator Rangers are straight. Scott, Flynn, and Summer are all bisexual, Dillon is unlabeled and likes anyone (demisexual if he vibed with labels), Ziggy is gay (or bisexual leaning towards men), and Gem and Gemma are queer. Doctor K is the only one who's straight

If he knew to go looking, Dillon would find his parents' graves in the Wastes. They died protecting their children from Grinders, they were traveling to Corinth. Dillon's car belonged to his father

Gem and Gemma have a form of telepathy left over from the experiments done on them at Alphabet Soup, it's why they can finish each other's sentences

Ziggy has had a crush on Scott, Flynn, Dillon, and Gem, and a platonic one on Summer. He can't help it! They're badasses and Ziggy’s got a thing for people who could obviously kick his ass

Flynn is the oldest of the core Rangers at 25, Scott is 24, Dillon and Summer are both 21, Summer being a few months younger, and Ziggy is 18. Gem and Gemma are in their late 20s, Doctor K is 19

Dillon didn't just click with Ziggy, he actually only tolerated his Wastes partner for the few weeks they were in the Wastes together. But, somehow Ziggy grew on him

Ziggy is Dillon’s best friend, baby brother, and maybe more rolled up into one. Dillon adores Ziggy, but won't let it show. Ziggy, of course, knows this and adores Dillon right back

Scott, Summer, Flynn, Dillon, and Ziggy are all in what amounts to a Queer Platonic Relationship. They seek each other out automatically at this point. If so inclined, that relationship could turn romantic real quick

Scott gives doberman vibes, Summer gives white cat vibes, Flynn gives husky vibes, Dillon gives black cat vibes, Ziggy gives orange cat vibes

Ziggy was once a gymnast, which is the only reason he was able to fight as well as he did at first

The Rangers spar together even after Venjix is defeated

Dillon doesn't like Scott, but he does respect and love him

They're all fucking idiots at best, but Scott can and will chain himself to any of the Rangers if they try to run away.

All the Rangers have some form of abandonment issues. The least of which is Flynn, who has issues regarding his mother's death, the most of which is Ziggy, who was abandoned at the orphanage at age five

The Rangers are always in a rainbow of shipping, but none is more obvious than the RPM Rangers. You can ship anyone with anyone (except Gem/Gemma of course)

The hit on Ziggy’s head never went away, and he never expected it to. He was in the mob from age 10 to age 17, he knows better than to expect kindness from people who would kill him in a heartbeat

On that subject, Ziggy doesn't leave the garage unless he has another person (Dillon) with him

Dillon and Tenaya don't go back to their original names, but they do take their original surname of Sevenson (which is where Venjix got the Seven from)

All the Rangers have PTSD and nightmares. They sneak into each other's beds or have puppy piles on the floor. Usually, you'll see specific patterns with sleeping arrangements. For example, Ziggy hasn't slept in his own bed since the Venjix virus started taking over Dillon, but he rarely ended the night in his own bed even before that

Flynn is the fan-favorite Ranger, but it's a close tie with Dillon and Scott
