Disney, releasing Wish: "so it's all about legacy--the new generation surpassing the old, overcoming the evils perpetuated by them, relinquishing singular power... and there's an old man in a tower, uh... animal sidekick, i guess..., ah... magic...?

#the boy and the heron #not tagging wish 'cause i'm being a little acidic #this isn't to be negative in the slightest--I really respect both films--but it's interesting to see how visceral boy+H gets with its story #what evils have to be rejected and what they represent--and how characters and the world suffer from those evils--as well as how the whole #'rejecting' part goes. in terms of animation powerhouses discussing their legacies - disney and miyazaki both - I find it interesting that #one makes a pretty safe and nostalgic movie about imagination and dreams; the other is a long trudge through the land of the dead.#b+h is a hard watch - and a look at the legacy of a man questioning his whole purpose in the world - after his cultural touchstones #have long passed by. Mahito needs to understand his grief to keep living--but if he drowns in it he'll just continue the cannibalistic and #violent world of his granduncle. how the hell do you make art when the trauma of your entire life has colored it forever? How can anyone?#maybe after a while... it's time to detonate that damn tower and keep living.#this is to say #if you have enough money to make whatever you want #Make It Fucking Count

It is very interesting how Dionysos, despite being born from Zeus, does not reject his mother or deny any connection with the woman who bore him, but shows so much affection and devotion towards her even though she died before he could even begin to know her. He goes so far as to descend into the Underworld in order to bring her back from among the dead after which he shares his immortality with her.

Quite the strong difference from „Pallas, the motherless goddess”, Pallas there-was-no-mother-who-gave-me-birth Athena.

Evidence:

He stole Doffy's whole look down to the shirtless sluttiness, feather coat and the earrings.

He COPIED DOFFY'S ACTIVATION METHOD. How "notice me, senpai!!" is THAT!?

Like Doflamingo, he acts as though your attempts at torturing him are absolutely precious.

Law straight up based his jolly roger on Doffy's. Like it's not even kinda subtle. (Not that Law does subtle. Which is weird for someone trying SO HARD to be dark, mysterious, and edge-y as Kikoku. )

Trafalgar spent years of his life travelling around the world, gaining notoriety and power, putting into place a series of intricate moving parts that all had to come together in just the right way all so Doflamingo would notice him and remember his face forever.

fun fact: this is exactly the opposite of what happened in my family au. Aang and Zuko met in highschool (like in their last 2 years). Zuko knew of aang's existence because Aang helped azula with something for a class one time. Aang, on the other hand, was determined to get to know zuko because that boy was head over the heels in love as soon as he saw zuko. When Aang heard about zuko's interest in manga, he started reading some. One time he purposely let a manga fall to the ground in front of zuko. Zuko picked it up, with the intent of returning it to aang. Aang saw zuko picking up the manga and went "alright this is my time to shine". Except that it wasn't because he tripped on his shoelaces (because he stuffs them inside his shoes like a dumbass) and fell on top of zuko, breaking his right wrist (my man aang was 5'9 at 17, did sports and was a big dude in general). From there they eventually became friends and their relationship started to evolve from there :3
