𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗻𝗲𝘁𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲 𝗼𝗿𝗯 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝗹𝘆 𝗿𝗼𝘁𝘀 𝗮𝘁 𝗚𝗮𝗹𝗲'𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗱𝘆. And it is excruciating. On his chest, one can trace its ugly mark, the brand less discoloration and more, unfortunately, a deep-grooved scar. It is unavoidable and impossible to ever miss. Similarly, the way it eats at him is obvious, too. Gale, especially at the start, when his condition, fresh and disorienting, was still abundantly new, the effects of the orb were frighteningly worse. At that time, he little knew how to quell it, that feeding off the Weave would balm the pain, and so for all those days and weeks of panic, he rotted and ached at a terrible pace. He had decayed. And he had bled. Gale's body oozed black, skin, especially at his casting arm, rupturing like cracks in terracotta. He tasted filth always, the bitterness of wasting flesh thick in his throat, nose perpetually leaking with the ink-dark of bleeding. He'd labored to breathe, a feeling like devouring maggots pulsing in his chest. In fact, at the lowest point by then, wallowing and stuck in his tower, Gale began to lose hair, his nails loose and cracking as he scrabbled at the floorboards, knees weak and pain bolting when he collapsed to the floor. He was a pitiful sight. And a worrying one. And even now, with the consumption of magical artefacts, one can still see the way he bows to the blight, heaving for breath when it takes his chest again, sweat at his temples and mouth gone dry. It's all-encompassing. The agony is chronic. It feels like being eaten, being hollowed to his barest self right from the inside. He's a vessel of magic, and the orb means to consume him down to his every last molecule, teeth bared, hackles raised, and appetite crushing. It's like--dying, stolen away to be but swallowed down whole, surrendering to the suck of a hungering vortex. He's unsightly. As well, too, as a burden, he thinks, to the very naked of his bones. But when someone hangs back, touches him despite his rot, he thinks, you shouldn't have to handle something like this. This mere shamble of a graveyard--he's so sorry to dirty their hands.

that one post I rb'd earlier about France and laicité and Macron celebrating Chanukah is still making me made just thinking about it. That came in the same week as Masha Gessen being almost stripped of the Hannah Arendt prize because they wrote an essay about Gaza (incidentally, Gessen is Jewish). I'm just really, massively tired of the current climate in Western Europe where political and civil authorities pay lip service to diversity and pluralism but actually actively suppress diverse voices. Case in point, lots of framing Judaism = Israel while actively making life harder for their Jewish communities.
I'm not eloquent enough to word this properly, but it's infuriating to witness. It's not a new attitude by any means, but it's rooted in racism and xenophobia and I hate that it's getting so much fresh mileage lately. I wish more people (& local press) called it out for what it is.

Allow me to preface with: I love where OFMD ends up. Every time I see something that makes me fear for a renewal (Taika noooo), I remember that everyone was was okay where it ended, and dammit the ends justified the means
But:
Fuuuuck it's overstuffed, objectively. And my measurement of overstuffiness is: Big Musical Moments.
OFMD has these amazing sequences where the music and the action and the story all blend together in this glorious literal symphony. A normal episode has 1-2 of these sequences, and they're fucking glorious and eternal.
The finale of S2? The finale of S2 has FOUR Big Musical Moments! Five if you count Ed coming out of the water!
It's too many, it just is. There's missing links between character moments, missing plot details--it's a mess.
But I fucking love it and I'm so, so glad they rushed, because a TV season ender is a balance between the story as a whole and the investment of its watchers. Jenkins and co. decided that the investment of the watchers--and the wholeness of its charaters--was more important than the mechanics of story. And if that make you feel cheated, that's fair and that stinks. But fuck, so many stories are about the endless continuance of the characters and the ego of the creators--it's pretty damn amazing to feel like the fans (*cough* of the main arc *cough*) are valued and the creators are less important than getting to a place where it's ok to end.
The last line of this show might be "fuck that's strong!" "maybe we just air it out a bit..."
And that's actually okay. And it is, somehow, beautiful.
But goddamnit, JUST FIVE MORE MINUTES and that episode would have been PERFECT...

ok so. I know everyone has their opinion on how whiny Koth is and that's a beaten dead horse but I think a huge under-looked part of it is how the game engine animates anger. take a look at Koth's face here, the famous frown which regularly puts players off-- including me at one point, because he looked absolutely livid over the news of a breakup, which startled me at the intensity of his expression.
Tumblr media
makes you think wow this guy's emotional, doesn't it? and as a reaction to a few small conflicts, it doesn't feel good.
but then take a look at how KOTXX animates a frown on Lana and Theron:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
INCREDIBLY ANGRY OVERREACTIONS.
SWTOR tends to make anger appear as a bulging of the eyes, which is a little terrifying, since it signifies extreme rage. Case in point:
I think a huge part of why Koth appears so abrasive to the playerbase is his expressions: he is overanimated and frowns with his entire face in a way that is almost comical in the same way the other companions frown *far* too much to the point of looking like TF2 caricatures, which makes him seem far pettier than he actually is.
I really believe his delivery would be helped if expressions weren't so strong and made subtler in SWTOR's engine, but he already was at a disadvantage with being made to disagree more often and therefore use that frown more than the others, which made his image worsen in player eyes. (Though his popularity shouldn't hinge on whether he agrees or not).
The point is, even as someone who likes the character even I was thrown off by how furious he looked to innocuous lines. His voice delivery was fairly neutral. His face wasn't. Would the same vehement dislike towards him exist if he wasn't animated in the same way?

Everybody listen to me. Listen. I am going crazy about the parallels between Wanderer and Kokomi.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You got sea vs sky, both their connections to underground regions (Wanderer spent significant time in the Abyss and Kokomi's ancestry is tied to Enkanomiya); the fact that both their strengths are intelligence and planning although Kokomi uses her strengths to heal and protect and Wanderer hurts and destroys.... (or at least he used to while in the Fatui)
They both have significant amounts of blue and white in their color schemes, they're both catalyst users (although Kokomi is more of a ranged attacker and while Scaramouche is too his attacks are much more aggressive and precise while Kokomi's graceful and elegant. She still hits pretty hard if you build her tho like woahie) .. neither of them are on good terms with the Shogun..also Wanderer with the fingerless gloves and then Kokomi's half gloves (not really important I just think it's cool)
There's also the fact that neither of them is really good with people as well: although Kokomi's more just socially awkward and Wanderer. Well.
.. there's a lot to unpack there. .
Kokomi fought god, Wanderer wanted to BE god, etc you see where I'm going with this right you see the parallels, yes????? God I want them to meet so bad it'd be so interesting.

Stars!
"Chief, you have to find cover. Now."
Black spots are swimming in his vision, pinging around his HUD, melding and diverging and zinging and popping. Cortana's voice sounds light-years away.
"Another hit like that and we're toast. Literally. Move!"
Instinct is the only thing kicking his legs into motion, straining against the pain. His shield warning is blaring inside his skull, he can feel portions of his undersuit melting against his skin, he's still seeing stars. A wave of nausea swells and threatens to break, but he swallows it down, collapsing behind a pillar.
The enraged Hunter bellows somewhere close by—too close. He hears the heavy clang of its weight moving around the room, searching him out. He doesn't have long. He grits his teeth, tries to focus on his breathing, reloads his rifle. His shields begin to recharge, not nearly as fast as he needs.
Two grenades left, that was something. He yanks the pin out of one, counts to three, then lobs it around the side of the pillar. The Hunter howls over the sound of the blast.
John hauls himself to his feet and runs, shoving aside the searing pain of the plasma burns. Cortana was right, he couldn't take another direct hit. He sprints through the dissipating smoke, past the Hunter, and launches himself onto a platform on the other side of the room, pivoting on his heel the second he touches down.
The Hunter's back is still turned, but it's starting to shake off the shock of the explosion and swing around to face him, plasma cannon already glowing—his window of opportunity is getting smaller by the second. He fires a burst from his rifle, aiming for the sliver of squirming orange worm-flesh under the armor. The Hunter stumbles as the bullets connect, just long enough for John to fling his final grenade.
The explosion thunders through the room, amplified by the residual energy from the half-charged cannon. White-hot fire roils against lime green smoke. A satisfying splash of rust-colored viscera coats the walls. The Hunter crashes to the ground beside its fallen sibling, twitches, then lies still.
His shield alarm is sounding again, he must've been caught by the fringe of the blast. Nothing pings on his motion tracker. The adrenaline that'd been carrying him through the last brutal fifteen minutes starts to fade, making room for all the stress and pain he'd been ignoring to come screaming back with renewed intensity.
He barely manages to unseal his helmet and rip it off before he vomits. It doesn't make him feel any better; the convulsion tears at his blistered, charred flesh, sending a fresh spike of pain through his chest. The air tastes like metallic smoke, but he takes a minute to just breathe.
"...we've gotta keep moving, Chief." Her voice is closer again, but tinny, projected through the helmet's external speakers. "We can rest when we find a medkit." Authoritative as always. But he hears the concern.
He nods. Spits. Takes one last deep breath before fitting his helmet back on and willing his battered body to carry him to the next room. He's still seeing stars.

oh god okay i understand that maybe not everyone is as indecisive/comfortable with saying "it depends!" as me, but like, i'm sorry, i'm sorry, but i just can't take people who call izzy a villain seriously
#he's a little annoying dude. i swear to fuck#'the real villain in the show is the system and izzy is siding with the system' babygirl he's a pirate 😭 he really isn't 😭#he could NOT more clearly be -- he literally IS -- that kind of gay man who wears his leathers and anger as an armor because being scary ha#been his way of fighting The System => being consumed and destroyed by it; and who looks down and feels disgusted by flamboyant#and effeminate soft-handed gays because if they're this soft then they clearly haven't experienced this kind of abuse that would make them#harden up. ....you know what i mean.#like idk this show in general like... doesn't have a 'villain'? it's about stede (and ed's) journey and their development. not necessarily#about their Conflict With Someone/Something. i guess it might change in s2 but idk. there are just Situations in which they find themselves#and because of/md is a comedy no one really... holds things against other characters in a long-term way? izzy stabs stede and sells him#out to the english and ed punches him for the latter (which he says 'ok fair' about!!! like!!!) but does he go 'and for all the shit you've#done i'm Firing you as my first mate? no! he slams him against the wall and feeds him his toe but he's like. ok get up and back to work#and he doesn't seem particularly disgusted or upset with him in that final blackbeard's flag 2.0 moment. (nor manipulated; inb4)#like. it's a workplace romcom. the workplace is a pirate ship but it's a workplace and izzy is that annoying coworker who's a bitch and#often ruins everyone's fun but no one like... Seriously ostracizes him. more like applies some light bullying BECAUSE IT'S FUNNY.#COMEDY. do we remember that?#and like. it seems he's going to have a bit of a larger (?) role in s2... it really doesn't seem like the show sees him as a 'villain' or#even an active 'antagonist' either. like ok let's agree 2 disagree and may both sides block each others' asses into oblivion because god#knows both sides have some annoying people but mannnn sometimes... insisting that things Can be divided into Good and Bad... is worse?#shrimp thoughts#once again i wrote a tag novel about an incredibly silly thing. welcome to leatherbookmark

[ Category: The Promised Land ]
| There we go, the old sport himself.... Y'know,,, the guy who runs the organisation to not only get goods sent around the Promised Land and help his family owned business going, but to also keep the peace and all that shit... His family has been best buddies with the Royal family of the Golden Palace after all for generations, so he's in good hands if ever they are swamped with work or are being threatened...!
Takeshi is a pretty stoic kinda guy, takes his work seriously, and definitely takes his relationships of all kinds seriously as well! If anybody goes out of line or breaks his trust, not only will he shut you out; But you'll be exiled, punished and potentially snuffed out... But he's needn't do that since nobody has personally nor professionally stooped that low to him.... Yet
He's a very reliable and trustworthy fellow, and despite how intimidating he looks to many; He's someone who is definitely worthy having in your life.. Hardworking, competent, surprisingly very comforting! He's a saint compared to his family's shady history...!!
.. And he must be a really cool guy, Tammy is dating him and they plan of getting married someday!
☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆ ☆
INFO
Name: Takeshi Species: Ice Elf (Origin Kind) General Personality: Serious, independent, hardworking, trustworthy, protective, actually very welcoming, quite stubborn, strong Height: 9ft "2" Relationship Status: In a relationship
Extra Info:
Takeshi took over the Frostclaw Traders organisation after his father's passing when he was 18; The organisation was actually something incredibly different before his grandfather took over and completely re-did everything from the ground to what it was known as previously.. Which used to be a cult of sacrifice, blood, greed and all now frowned upon by the newer generations while what had happened prior was approved of by the acenstors of both the Golden Palace and Frostclaw. Takeshi wishes to keep to what the organisation means nowadays; Trades, peace and a very well fed supply of resources all around the Promised Land
Despite being just a mere Ice Elf, Takeshi and his late family were of a "pure breed" which are actually referred to as "Frost Folk", the Ice Elves themselves just seemed to have "dwindled" ever so slightly and "softened" their physical attributes through the years whilst Takeshi himself remained of his origins. The only vital differences is that their skin appears more pale and could potentially glisten like icicles in the sunlight, their eyes pale with sharp white pupils and fanged teeth like vampires (minus the blood sucking). The Origin diet mainly consists of ice and herbal teas as they cannot process meats or heavy foods; Diet practically being mostly of liquid or things that can melt easily on the tongue
He actually wields two blades, and carries a small dagger that was passed down from his mother on his 10th birthday; He never uses the dagger however keeps is as a good luck charm. The dual blades were passed from his father a week before his father's passing years ago
He's 31 years old and appears to have been that age for the past decade; Unknown to this anomaly, he fears something that the indescribable horrors his ancestors has committed have punished him, cursed to become immortal as he watches his loved ones slip away.. Either that or he has lost track of time, thus losing track of his age, not even Tammy knows how old he potentially could be
Usually he and his partner tends to take turns when it comes to business, Tammy deals with the papers, the contracts and phone calls while Takeshi focuses more on the meetings, the agreements and engagements to keep the organisation going at a steady pace; Although it is joked around by his girlfriend that he cannot sit still in a phone call and listen to the other "unintelligible imbecile" on the other side, and also he needs reading glasses so he doesn't accidentally agree to something he "refuses to acknowledge" or "accept"
He's quite stubborn, even though he cannot deny it, his own parents, although had not outright acted on inherently "evil activities" by the standards of their ancestors, but his father specifically had to agree to certain "distasteful procedures" just to keep the Frostclaw Traders alive up to now; Takeshi personally believes his parents, most specifically his father, were saints when they were alive. A part of him is still a child at heart when he's naive about his family and their actions
Takeshi runs and leads the main branch of the Frostclaw Traders organisation within the Glacier Mountains of the Promised Land, which is also the main hometown for the Ice Elves, however that isn't to say he does not have other branches opened out within the realm itself to make his business efficient. Almost every corner within the Promised Land has Frostclaw services, ranging from stock, resources, even a couple small postal services; He has no doubt hired and even promoted most of his members of his business to run and manage the other branches (with helps of the civilizations within the regions). It is also thanks to King Aurelius that Takeshi is able to expand this business thoroughly to keep the realm in well managed conditions
Although not directly, he did have a bad couple of run ins with a few of Kira's henchmen when they tried to infiltrate the hometown of the Ice Elves to steal some valuables and other "secret documents and treasures" for whatever purposes, though being quite the fighter and his defences are, they scared them off successfully without too much lost
Ice Elves bleed a teal blue, however Takeshi being of the Origin era; his is a luminous blue and (believe it or not) has a gold shimmer.. So if you see a pretty luminous blue "paint" with a gold shinmer, that isn't paint that's Frost Folk blood
+ + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + +
But uhm.. Yeah, s'pose that's about it for him- The main guy who runs the business, maintaining it while keeping his people happy, comfortable and safe from the threats of the opposing sides. Although not as directly involved or connected with the threat of the Deceit and their goal, the Frostclaw's alliance is with the Golden Palace, so Takeshi and his people are prone to be harassed or threatened.. Not like that'll stop him from continuing on with his family run business and trying to make this strange realm a safe place to live..
Takeshi, obviously like the others, was also a former Yiga OC of mine before I changed them up entirely! And funnily enough in the BotW era where I had them be part of the Yiga clan, Takeshi originally was gonna be like the next leader after Master Kohga retires and lets him take over before I made them all into their own thing.. Takeshi hasn't really changed personality-wise since he's always been a hardworking and independent person, but leading a business along with those close to him makes it very easy to get the job done, even if he is potentially cursed to become an immortal being who's been punished for his ancestors sick and twisted endeavours.. (Or is his fear of living alone is making him succimb to his paranoia)... But uhm.. Yeah!
Believe I only really have a few former Yiga OCs who are in need of re-purposing entirely before I'm actually done with the basics for them, and then after that I'll have to go back to sorting out my Zareans species and other non related OCs..
Still loads to do but oh well-
. Takeshi, Art © Me . DON’T RE-POST .

I just came back from the laes episode-
That is it, that's where my heartstrings have enough, I will never fucking recover from it-
They fed us, by God, the angst is is too much, but it's so addictingly delicious-
The way Solar tried so hard to get them to communicate, yet how he let them talk and didn't push them, didn't try to force them.
And Earth and Lunar, God Earth and Lunar…
The way Earth is beating herself up, feeling like she can't talk about her problems, because "Lunar had it worse". The way she feels as though she's not allowed to talk about it, not meant to, because she's supposed to be the caretaker, the therapist, the golden child. The way she desperately tries to keep herself together as her world crumbles around her…
I don't even know where to start about Lunar- They finally reached the edge. They finally reached their limit. The question is, will they run? Will they take the leap? Or will they be pushed off? They are on their witts end, unable to control their powers, and slowly succumbing to their trauma.
They don't understand the world, nor themself anymore… They never asked for any of this, so how is this fair?
My goodness, this was too much for my poor heart-
Both of them are suffering so much, both of them can't see the end of the tunnel anymore!
There's so much more, but I can't even put it into words! I am gonna go insane-
-Stardust
I KNOWWWWW IT FUCKED ME UP SO BADDD AUAGAHAGAHHHH!!!!!!
Solar was doing his best and I feel a little bad for him too because I know he just wants everything to be okay between them but he doesn't really know How to navigate that </3
AND EARTH AND LUNAR,,, YEAH. YEAH. EVERYTHING YOU SAID EXACTLY 💔💔💔
It breaks my heart to see them interact like this because Earth is scared of Lunar and Lunar is scared to hurt Earth and their wounds are still too fresh to actually begin any communication or healing and it's like AUGH. EXPLOSIONS EVERYWHERE ☹️
So much yet so little was communicated to each other and I am being SO dramatically woeful about it. Exactly like u said, they can't even see the end of the tunnel anymore </3

My mom texted me on her way to work this morning asking if I could make dinner tonight. Sure, I say, but I'm not making flavorless food. She asks what I meant, and I say I refuse to cook like she does, where everything is burnt and the most spice any dish gets is a pinch of ground peppercorn. So now I'm officially off dinner duty (thankfully!) because she can't stand anything with flavor. God forbid the turkey have been cooked with any spices. Chives in mashed potatoes? Unheard of. Spice blend in the roast vegetables? Impossible!
