Anyways!! Here’s some of the stuff I loved from the atla live action!

•cinematography, soundtrack, costumes - all on point

•getting to see the airbenders flourishing!!! Also the dude who played Gyatso?! Didn’t think I could love him more!! Even though it was painful as FUCKKKK getting to see the first invasion of the fire benders was an epic masterpiece

•speaking of, the first scene?? With the earthbender soldiers in the fire nation?? Iconic

•Omashu: unpop opinion I’m sure (bc y’all hate change but simultaneously hate when it’s carbon copy????????🤦🏼‍♀️) I loved how they incorporated like 3 or 4 episodes into one, and they flowed really well together. Jet is FOINEEE. Mechanist was perfect & his son is a freaking badass, amazing casting! Even though it was change, the secret tunnel scenes were still really freaking cool and the badgermoles were SICK AS FUCK. Also I love that Bumi was still cooky but not just randomly cooky? Like mans was run down from being king basically the entire war…which FAIR. And it made sense that he was peeved with Aang BECAUSE they were such good friends. Like the other avatars being mad at him? Yea that’s whatever. But for Bumi it was kinda personal. Also CABBAGE MAN WE MISSED YOU 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Oh! And the way they mentioned other episodes like they were lore when Zuko was trying to find Aang? That was an amazing way to tie back to the OG series

•I love how they incorporated the blue spirit, Koh, the fog of lost souls & parts of the ep where sokka and Katara got sick & Aang had to get them frogs - just reimagined it. Oh also Hei Bai! Yea, I loved that whole episode. Koh & Hei Bai were SCARY as fuck, it was awesome!!

•HAHN MY BELOVED…I ADORE YOU! Favorite character that they added/changed. Katara getting the other women involved in the battle?! Tui & La? The oasis?! 😭😭 stunning!!!! I also LOVEDDDDD Aangs avatar spirit that he turned into, literally perfect! And I loved the change that he gave himself over to the spirits wrath..fucking SICK. Also right before aang turned into the spirit/whatever that’s called, I was praying they’d do the line and thEY DIDDDD!!!

•Fire lord Ozai?? 😳😚 nothing needed to be said - perfection

•Kyoshi?! The Kyoshi warriors?! SUKI?! - speechless

•I like that they’re making more of a point to show how smart Sokka is! Mechanist calling him an engineer…I hope they play more into that! Ik they did a bit in the show with the subs (cartoon), but still

The scenes with Zuko and Iroh, Zuko before the war meeting, the leaves from the vine being in the background at the funeral….ARE YOU FUCKING WITH ME?! Zuko’s crew being the crew he SAVED?! And when they find out they all do the fire nation bows to their prINCE?! 😭😭😭😭

I’m being fair y’all - things I don’t love/hope they change:

•this one I’m 50/50 on - I don’t love that they tried to give Kuruk a reason for disappearing. They tried to pull shit from Korra to make him look meaningful & not useless as an avatar and it didn’t hit for me

•some of the wigs: obviously we won’t see Yue again, but I wanted her hair to be white. I didn’t love the wig but it wouldn’t have been as bad for me if it wasn’t so grey. Also do NOT love Azula, Tylee or Mai’s hair. Ik they look just like the show but whether that’s wigs or their actual hair (I’m clueless) it needs some serious improvement. Azula’s looks great down, I just don’t like how big the side pieces are that frame her face when it’s up.

•Katara, my love, I am PRAYING part of your development is also going to be her becoming more outspoken and badass, bc this season we saw the tiniest of glimpses of it, not a fan (unless it’s a part of her development…she did grow up in a tiny ass tribe so I’m giving them the benefit of the doubt)

• IK they’re going with a much more serious Aang, but pleaseeeee give us some actual moments of him being a kid. We saw that like twice 😭

•Dante is the PERFECT ZUKO, I will hear NO slander. However, I need him to be more of a dick. I’m hoping we’ll get that when he gets super desolate when they’re on the run & then we have Zuko alone & he has his inner battle. I need snarky dickhead Zuko, so you can truly see the big differences between what he’s fighting (himself vs. who his dad wants him to be)

okay, asking this question is maybe the dumbest i've ever felt bc it feels like there should be a straightforward, obvious answer here, but every time i've tried to look it up, i've found nothing but pages upon pages of what feels like people talking in circles and only serving to make me more confused in the end. since you're the most knowledgable person i follow when it comes to the Classics, i figured this might be a good place to ask and maybe get an actual answer? (that being said, it's fine if you don't want to/don't have the time to answer this! obviously!!)

where can i read about the older greek myths? as in pre-trojan war. mostly, i'm interested in theseus but also just pre-trojan war stories in general. i know not everything got the iliad/odyssey treatment and there's probably not any surviving text to point at in a lot of cases, but there must've been something. every time i try to look up where to read about the history of theseus, i'm being directed to a bunch of modern retellings, but google has gotten so bad as a search engine, i literally cannot find anything about the origins of this thing everybody's retelling

from what i understand, theseus was sort of everywhere sticking his nose in everything at all times, so i'm not asking for a comprehensive timeline of his whackass life and everything he ever appeared in or anything, but if you could point me in the direction of anything about him--actual plays or academic texts, anything like that--that's more credible than, like, a self-published, self-described "bold new reimagining" with a stock image of a dude in party city roman cosplay as the cover, it would be MUCH appreciated 😭

Hello! What an exciting ask (and apologies for my excited and maybe incoherent answer)!

Since you seem to be most interested in Theseus, I’ll use him as an example but much of this can be applied to other Greek heroes/myths/stories more generally.

As you noted, few get the Iliad/Odyssey treatment. In fact, even Achilles and Odysseus don’t, considering the Iliad spans only 7 weeks or so, and the Odyssey misses out on Odysseus’s actions before and during the Trojan War, and after he came home – and he did a lot after he came home. So where to go to find all the other stories that happened?

Some things to keep in mind:

Writers assumed their audience was familiar with the hero’s greatest deeds already

The big boys – Achilles, Odysseus, Theseus, Perseus, Heracles, Oedipus – had their stories shared in many formats. Think of the Parthenon metopes, which show Theseus’s key deeds in sculpture, or vases, hymns, public performances, bedtime stories, etc. People would encounter these often enough that the outlines of these heroes’ stories were known to them from a young age.

As a result, ancient texts never show the entire story; they select the moment they want to tell and focus in on that. Hence the Iliad focuses on Achilles’s wrath, the Odyssey emphasises his homecoming, and the Argonautica tells the story of the Golden Fleece. Similarly, tragedies will choose a meaningful moment: not all of Agamemnon and Clytemnestra’s struggles, but his return home in the Agamemnon, or the events that lead directly to Pentheus’s dismemberment in the Bakchai.

So finding one text that will give you a useful overview will be hard!

These heroes are often also connected to so many other famous characters, that sometimes they show up as a side character in their stories, so it depends on which stories capture your interest most.

Pre-Homeric texts are few and far between

But this is not to say there aren’t pre-Trojan-War myths!

There are loads! Anything with Heracles or Theseus is pre-Iliadic, and others, like the house of Pelops, link more to the Trojan War but are also separate from it. Plus, there is Hesiod’s Theogony (roughly contemporary with Homer), which tells of the births of the gods and goes all the way back to the start of the universe.

The Ovid situation

Many Greek texts are lost, and we’ve only got allusions to this or that part of the myth in the existing fragments, etc. etc. So how do we still know so much about so many of these stories?

Enter my fave: Ovid.

Far later than Homer (1st century versus 8th century BC), but with access to all the Greek texts and them some, he wrote a lot of fairly comprehensive stories. These include the Heroides, letters written from the perspective of female characters trying to connect to their male lovers, with letter 10 coming from Ariadne to Theseus, and Metamorphoses 8 with parts of Theseus’s story.

If you’re looking for a high-level overview of what was what in ancient myth, starting with the Metamorphoses will give you all the big boys and many of the smaller ones.

Theseus specifically:

I must admit that Theseus is not my strong suit, but sources I’m familiar with that I would recommend:

Hippolytus, by Euripides and Phaedra by Seneca: these both tell of Theseus’s second wife Phaedra falling for his son Hippolytus and causing his death

Catullus 64: A lament from Ariadne after Theseus has abandoned her on Naxos

Metamorphoses 8, 12, by Ovid: Snippets of Theseus’s life, incl the Minotaur

Ones I’m not as familiar with but might be up your street:

Life of Theseus, Plutarch: a historian/scholar’s biography. He had them in pairs, where he compared the two; Theseus is linked to Romulus

The Argonautica, Apollonius Rhodus: Follows Jason in his quest for the Golden Fleece; Theseus is one of his heroes

Oedipus at Colonnus, Sophocles: apparently Theseus is a major side character here but I don’t remember!

There is also The King must Die by Mary Renault, a modern retelling from the ‘80s that blew me away. The only book set in ancient Greece I’ve ever read that doesn’t shy away from how alien their culture and values are to us today and doesn’t try to sugarcoat things.

And if you’re looking for more heroes: Wikipedia is your friend!

The entire day was enticing, you were excited but nervous for after school. It only made the day full of compliments and little work being done go by quicker. Your thoughts would almost solely be of your three best friends, what they would do to you. What it would feel like.. is it scary?

The school hours came to an end and you ended up finding Steve in the hallway, "Steve!" You shout, catching up with him.

Billy makes his way back over to the three of you, and your smiling as you lean against Eddie's chest taking a drag of the cigarette.

You open your mouth to say something but Billy says before you can, "Don't." taking the cigarette from your hand, taking one drag before throwing it on the ground "Get in the car.".

The four of you enter the car, Steve and Eddie getting in the back, you in the passenger and Billy driving. He quickly exits the school parking lot. Eddie and Steve are talking about something that you can't hear in the back over Should I Stay or Should I Go by The Clash.

"Where we goin'?" You ask Billy with a coy smile on your pretty features. He looks at you before looking back to the road saying "Motel 8. Said you wanted us to be alone, didn't you?"

Nodding your head softly, looking at the road. You were scared, didn't know what to expect. Not only were you losing your virginity, but to your three bestfriends.

"Nervous, princess?" Billy asks, placing a hand on your thigh to rub it soothingly. You nod when he looks at you. "Better than a random guy, baby. We'll be gentle, okay?"

Billy parks outside the Motel saying "Wait here." before he exits the car and walks inside.

"Why do we have to wait in here?" Steve asks before Eddie answers "Because it would look like we were doing something illegal if three guys walked in there with a girl asking for a one bed room?" putting his papers in his backpack.

You exit the car saying, "I'm gonna go in, you guys come in... 5 minutes?". You walk to the door and see Billy standing talking to the woman at the front desk, grabbing cash out of his wallet. You walk up behind him and stand next to him, he looks down at you before swiftly looking back to the woman, handing her the cash.

"Enjoy your stay." She smiles and hands the key to the room to Billy and we make our way to the room.

Billy opens the door, allowing you to walk in first as he follows, closing it behind him. You turn around to face him and walk into him, wrapping your hands around his waist and snuggling your head into his chest. He wraps arms around you and you look up at him.

He brings his hands to your cheeks before kissing you softly, that kiss becoming more passionate when his tongue enters your mouth. You moan into his mouth as he pushes you back until the back of your knees hit the end of the bed, causing you to sit down. The most you did with Billy was peck his lips, as with the other boys. He was a really good kisser, though.

"So beautiful." He'd whisper out to you before kissing you hungrily again. "Want you all to myself." The two of you would giggle into eachothers mouths, open mouthed kisses being exchanged.

You lie down and he'd hover over you, beginning to kiss your jaw before you hear a knock at the door. He stands up to make his way to the door before you pull him back to get one more messy kiss from him.

After then, he does walk over to the door and you sit up when he opens it and Steve and Eddie enter the room. "Any weird stares from the lady?" You ask, sarcasm lacing your tone.

"Luckily not." Steve chuckles, walking over to lay on the large bed, resting his arms behind his head and crossing his legs.

"At least take off your shoes, asshole." Eddie says, flicking an elastic to hit Steve in the face. He kicks his shoes off, "Better., asshole?" he flicks the elastic back at Eddie, who catches it before tying his long hair in a low pony.

Billy comes and stands between your legs as the other boys go and mess around with stuff in the room such as the things in the fridge and what not. He caresses your cheeks, "Sorry, got us stuck with these idiots." he chuckles softly and you laugh back.

"It's okay, it'll be fun." You smile and he lowers his head to kiss you. Your hands making their way to the back of his head to play with soft blonde curls, pulling on his mullet he'd moan into your mouth quietly.

Billy begins to unbutton his shirt, continuing to kiss you. You push his chest back, "We're starting without them?" nodding your head, smiling.

You take off your flats, beginning to unbutton and unzip your pants, but don't pull them down. Rather moving to your shirt, slipping the thin material up and over your head to reveal a black bra. You look at Billy's face to examine his facial expression, wondering if he wants you to keep going. His eyes trail up from your body to your eyes, seeing how nervous you were.

This is because he was trained by Ana and most likely spared with Gabe on multiple occasions, meaning he's one, stronger than he looks and two, can both take a punch from and fight a super-soldier. Does this mean he'll win the fight? Hand to hand combat, no, but since Cassidy can fight from a longer range, at the very least against Reyes he'd have a possibility of winning.

Cassidy is terrible at technical subjects like math and science, however, he knows and understands the most random topics for them. He's also fairly good with mechanics and engineering.

Not Me Live Blogging - Episodes 1 - 5

Reasons to not start this show right now:

I'm still kinda stuck on Semantic Error, so I don't know if I can fully immerse myself in this show right now

I have so much schoolwork, I really shouldn't start an intense, long (14 eps?) show that I hope takes over my brain and heart and life

BUT: I want to, so here we go lol. The only other show I've watched while it's airing was 2gether and that was early 2020 and I wasn't into BL/GL or even shows then - that just happened because I liked the premise and due to the hype. So Not Me is the first show I'm starting while its airing during my show/BL fandom era since October 2021.

I'm going in with a lot of excitement and expectations, so I hope they'll be met ^.^

Episode 1 (Mar 15, 2022)

Horrible to be in the first 2 minutes and, because I got spoiled about episode 10, know that one of these kids in the future tries kill another. I've avoided most spoilers except like traces of what the show is about for weeks and weeks but recently, I read like 3 different posts talking about the same hot tub/swimming pool murder attempt scene lol

Just like students in BL tend to be Engineering students, I feel like their fathers tend to be diplomats (Leo's dad in Don't Say No, someone's dad in Enchanté?)

I am soooo weak for sibling relationships (my weakest point is parent-child relationships but after that, siblings are just arrow straight to the heart)

I'm at the point in my Thai BL journey where I don't know all the GMMTV actors' names but I can recognize many of them from a show I've watched; such as: Todd played Thun's friend in He's Coming To Me

I can't believe I paused in the middle of this intense scene to write this long, unrelated ramble, lmfao but the first and only proper celebrities I've followed (Youtubers discounted) before these BLs is kpop idols and they have full coverage makeup during schedules, the devil Snow app for photos they post and filters for VLives and such to smoothen out their skin. When I saw a certain NCT Mark IG Live (can't remember which, maybe the one with him and Ten for T7S 5th anniversary?) where he was bare faced and we could actually see pimples and such, I liked it so much like something about it felt so touching because it was such a casual IG live + he was dressed casually and bare faces the naturally feel more authentic/close than filters. Anyway, Bad Buddy Episode 4, part 4 where after the makeup remover product placement, Ohm's barefaced (?) and we could see his skin's texture and acne scars and it felt so vulnerable and touching because it was a vulnerable and touching scene. Like, Pran looking at Pat all bare face, sleeping, no pretense and us also getting to see him like that and see how Pran longs for him. It was great and if his face had the blurry effect, it wouldn't have impacted me as much, probably. Anyway, seeing Gun's pores in this specific case isn't as impactful or touching like the instances above but it just reminded me lol. This show seems to also have that same rawness, so I hope that continues and I’m sure it’ll be even more impactful in emotionally vulnerable scenes.

This music choice is confusing the hell out of me in this Sean/White scene. I wish the music in this show wasn't so loud and so persistent, let the audience come to their own conclusions from the scene/dialogue/acting and then use the music to guide them to the correct conclusion rather than overwhelming them with it. They don't seem to use sound effects (thus far, at least), which is a GIFT for sure but replacing it with booming bg music is only slightly better

This random cat and mouse oil chasing scene is really cute, actually >.< From the way people spoke about this show, I thought there'd be like no levity but I'm glad there is

White being asked if he gets what he's being told and him nodding despite not getting a single thing

I've only criticized their music choices thus far but the last scene one is really good and fitting!

Aghh it's 1AM, so time to sleep but I also wanna know what happens next. Sometimes for these kBLs I could be like oh no, it's late but I still wanna watch the next episode it's 15-20 minutes anyway but this one... 45 minutes lol can't do the same. How do people wait week to week for these, as well? I've only started it now because I probably can't watch all the rest 12 episodes before the 14th episode comes out, what with school + wanting to spend time seeking out what people were saying after ep 1 aired

I'm thinking I'll split up the live blogging into 3 parts: 1-5, 6-10, 11-14 because it's getting so long. 14 45-minute episodes just have too much happen for me write all thoughts down in just one post.

Also, this is episode 5, right? Hmm I have a feeling for some reason that something happens in this ep? What a vague sentence like yes, Feu, things to happen in this 45 minute show. I feel like I'd been spoiled for something in ep 5 but forgot what it was, which is great, actually. Good job, brain, the only good opportunity to forget.

Todd is so chill and humourous about everything lol I guess it makes sense White's so naïve about him but like Todd is kinda everything Black is against

I just heard a rooster in the background while White's talking to Todd :0 reminds me of the motherland lol

White freezing for so long seeing Sean sleeping on that bed with Namo. Oh, my dude, you're worse down than I thought

I know we're supposed to be like the reason Sean's so mad is underlying jealousy that even he doesn't grasp yet but actually, people being on my bed without my permission literally makes me see red so I get him.

Every time White opens his mouth in regards to that law class, my stress level rises twofold

I think Gumpa knows Black's not Black and for some reason has a vested interest in Sean/White and that's hilarious

White is like the epitome of privileged, naïve nepo baby. "Oh? There's a monopoly? Ummm you should just start your own business if monopoly's so bad, duh" I guess even though he's had some epiphanies about disparity previously, it's still a surface level understanding

Also, this reminded me: I wonder what's happened to his dad in all this time? Like, doesn't his dad wanna know what White's up to? What about the job?

"I'm sorry for seeing you as more than a friend" ?!?!?! woah okay so there were very subtle GramBlack hints before (the dolls in Black's room with B & G, the motorcycle ride where Gram talks about Black in ep 2) but this has me O.O at attention

Why is White sooo suspicious, would it kill you to just continue the studying ruse for another hour? I guess he's panicked because Gram likes/d Black (or tbh? maybe Black confessed? and Gram kept it? but maybe not since Black had a gf until recently and idk if he'd do that while he's dating someone else) but still. At least he's very cute while trying to get away

Anyway, wild that we have yet to see Gram and Black actually interact, rather than Gram and White, but I'm fully invested in GramBlack like what

Umm the way Todd said he's not surprised a friend likes Black... okay? sudden confusion in my brain regarding the ToddBlack swimming pool attempted murder scene in ep 10 vs also remembering people talking about ToddBlack dynamics... they can be enemies and also lovers/pining/etc and that's fun too. Black wake up so that I know your dynamics with these characters !!

First running from a fire because one of them committed arson and next time running from cops because the other did some protest grafriti. It's true love, I guess. I read as of episode 13 that they're broken up so that sucks.

Okay, I don't think anything happened in episode 5 that was significant and I forgot. I may have gotten it mixed with hmm Enchante episode 5 maybe? I feel like there's a kiss there or something and everybody was going on about it

How did people wait a whole week for this? I keep thinking maybe I'll watch something weekly but remember that no, I wouldn't survive. I'll watch episode 6 tomorrow morning, maybe in 10-11 hours, and I'm already in agony, thinking hmm actually maybe I'll watch just another 45 minute ep

Anyway, quite good so far. I'm enjoying the story, the characters, the cinematography, the acting, the ships. It keeps me wanting to watch more. Bad idea to have started it right now when I have so much schoolwork but oh well, I suppose.

I was worried I couldn’t be able to connect with the story/characters as much because I was going through a bit of a Semantic Error withdrawal but the show managed to keep my attention and get my heart, as well. I’m invested!

I really, really hope the plot picks up more. Thus far, we've been setting up the story and the characters and the relationship dynamics but we haven't actually progressed much in terms of actually getting answers about who Black's attackers were and the friends haven't found out about White's identity either. There hasn't really been much change plot-wise from episode 2, which is definitely a weakness considering we're on episode 5.

Although, I will say that it doesn't feel slow moving to me. Things like Manner of Death or He's Coming to Me were extremely slow to me but this show has enough going on in terms of visuals and mystery and character dynamics that I'm fairly satisfied even without forward plot movement.

Depending on how you want to look at it, fortunately or unfortunately, most of the facts I have are morbid because the only two reasons a theme park ends up abandoned is because they run out of money or there were too many deaths 😬

But some of them get really gruesome, so I'll just give you the more outlandish facts so I don't end up scarring you djcjjddj

Action Park will probably always be one that fascinates me the most because it's been deemed the deadliest theme park in the world (idk if that's true, but it's definitely the deadliest in the U.S.) and the shit they got away with makes me feel insane sjxje

Like, the dude that founded it was rich so he started this bogus insurance company to insure said theme park and then he could just do whatever he wanted (which he did). Like, he'd hire people to design and build new rides, but they weren't engineers! And they were completely unqualified! And he just wanted to build faster, bigger, more insane rides. That was his only criteria. And if that isn't bad enough you know who he hired to run and operate said rides?????

TEENAGERS!!!!!! TEENAGERS!!!

Every time I read about/see a ride or attraction from this place, I feel so stressed out, I have to lie down. This place was truly lawless. But just to give you an idea of how batshit insane this place was, they had this insane ass slide:

And you wanna how they tested it out??? Gene, founder of said park, went to the teenagers that worked here and told them he'd give anyone willing to go down it $100. 🙃 and of course they did it, cause hey, 100 bucks. Apparently there was a trap door at the top of the little loop at the end there, and when they opened it, there were teeth stuck too it. 🤯

I don't know how legit this is because I'm taking it straight out of the HBO max documentary (well, most of this is from that documentary but I've read about this place before and a lot it corroborates what I heard in the movie so it feels legit) but apparently the only time this park had to report an injury to the state is if the person was taken away in an ambulance. So, we really only know about the most extreme cases. And it's still deemed the deadliest in the US.

My head's exploding.

Anyway, enough about that place, it just fascinates me and makes me feel so stressed that I feel insane.

Some other interesting places: there was theme park in Berlin that went through some crazy stuff, including the owner and his son getting busted for trying to smuggle 400 pounds of drugs in one of the rides

There used to be a theme park in Connecticut that was called Holy Land USA and it's exactly how it sounds: it was a theme park that featured attractions that were pulled from various passages from the Bible.

Disney World, the one right here in Florida, had abandoned parks for a while. There was an old water park that opened in... I wanna say the 70s?? And then closed permanently in like '01 or '02 and up until 2019 they just.....left it there. Also, people died at this place, and even though Disney says that wasn't the reason it closed, some people believe it was. They also had Discovery Island, which, as the name suggests, could only be accessed by boats and it was opened first as Treasure Island and it had a shipwreck and a pirate theme but then they rebranded it just a few years later to Discovery Island and it became a natural habitat for guests to explore wildlife and fauna. But then they built Animal Kingdom and the Island became obsolete so they relocated the animals, closed it off, and left everything there. I read they're planning on tearing it down and using the land for a future hotel, but idk how legit that information is.

Also, there was a Ferris wheel in Berlin that still spun in the wind well over a decade after it was abandoned.
