Hi, its Grim anon! I was wondering if I could request a platonic bench trio with y/n (she/her) who is very open about her affection for the three (constantly complimenting them, saying ily, etc.), but lately she's been worried that people will take it the wrong way so she's stopped? And now they're like. Where's my Y/N validation? :(
yep yep!! here you go, grim anon! ^^ sorry if I got a bit off track? I'm not sure if I did or not!
platonic!BenchTrio x affectionate!y/n
pronouns: she/her
other information on the reader:
. minor
. very open with her affection
. minecraft streamer
. faceless streamer
. it's against her boundaries for anyone other than friends to use her real name
warnings: sexism/misogyny (ends well, the haters are addressed), idk but the "girl near streamer I like? ew wtf 😒" type of hate (also gets addressed n shut down), little angst, distancing yourself from friends, trying to change yourself, cussing, mention of "weird comments" made towards y/n *ALL OF THESE ISSUES ARE ADDRESSED AND SHUT DOWN THOUGH !!!
form: headcanons
summary: y/n is super openly affectionate with all of her friends! unfortunately, a lot of people think that's a negative thing, though Tommy, Tubbo, and Ranboo notice y/n's change and get to the bottom of it to fix the issue ^^
genre: platonic, little angst, fluff(?) after it gets found out, hurt to comfort type of deal ^^
abbreviations: s/n -> streamer name, y/n -> your name
note: I'm not very good at angst yet so I'm sorry if it kinda sucks !! :(
you were very in touch with your loving side and showed all your friends affection very openly and however you could
unfortunately, since y'all didn't live near each other that meant that you had to wait for visits for like hugs n stuff :(
at first you didn't think much of it, affection was a normal thing between friends, why do it differently on stream?
you would often tell the boys how much you loved them and we're genuinely happy and grateful that y'all were friends
complements and validation paired with this, naturally
the boys looked forward to streams with you, not only because you where best friends but for the serotonin that your affection brought :D
actually!! on streams with all of you together, it wouldn't be uncommon for tommy, tubbo, and ranboo to playfully fight over your affection
it would be in different ways though, like with Tommy, you would complement either ranboo or tubbo and if you didn't state a name tommy would be like "THAT WAS MENT FOR ME, (TUBBO/RANBOO)" after they thanked you
meanwhile tubbo would either go on about betrayal and how you didn't love him anymore and he's going to run away or he would do something along the lines of ":(( what about meee"
and ranboo, if the compliment wasn't aimed at him, even if you clearly added tommy or tubbo's name at the end, would always reply "thank you" or something similar
however it's different if the compliment is directed at them!
ranboo would thank you, do a small laugh that's half flustered half awkward, and then complement you back (he got less awkward and flustered as he got more used to it though!)
you could hear the smile in tubbo's voice as he loudly thanks you and gives you like 3 compliments in return
tommy, it would depend if either of y'all are streaming or not! yes? "I know" all jokingly cocky like. no? "thank you, I guess" he says it as a half joke, it's a genuine thank you, but he likes keeping it playful so the "I guess" is thrown on, it's random if he gives you a complement back or not, it's literally not even dependant on how he feels, it just at random
also I feel like you and Tommy would have like a "ily!! /p" "ew /j" bit, very often I will add 👍
like while your streaming you like "tommy!! I love you, thank you for being my friend :)" and him, completely disregarding the last bit, would reply "EWW, Y/N YOU DO KNOW IM I MINOR CORRECT??"
if him ever saying ew hurts your feelings then he won't say it, however he will say the rest, unless him deflecting your "ily" makes you feel bad as well, it's fairly easy to crack him to say it back since you're best friends
a lot of back and forth, but not too hard since he never wants to genuinely hurt you
ALSO if you complement him (on stream ofc) he will find a way to turn it around, not onto you, but just turning into something too tame to be labeled and insult but definitely something close!
"I like your sunglasses!!" "oH??? SO YOU DONT LIKE MY EYES??? THANKS S/N"
(also feel like tubbo might do this)
ofc would stop if it makes you sad/uncomfortable/etc
with ranboo though, he might occasionally do that, but it's way more often for you two to get into complementing matches (just going back and forth with complements)
you also sometimes do the "ily more" thing, just because it's funny bc it's like a cringe romance movie thing, y'all never do it on stream though because ppl might make it weird, and some friend quirks are better kept private anyway, just a you two thing :)
occasionally the "no you hang up first" too, except you both play they teen girl waving her hand and saying it the most high pitched voice she can. it's so funny hearing ranboo going so high 💀💀
as a rising streamer, of course you have Twitter, and your subtwt isn't toxic – due to your personality and stuff, the people you attract to your content are all pretty loving and chill! ofc there's a few bad eggs, but that's just what happens, you choose to ignore those few
but since you've gotten more popular, people finding you through your more popular friends, you've seen a rise of tweets mentioning you, whether it be in general or in the boy's replies
you're glad to be getting more popular, now you can find more people who seek comfort from your content, which was your goal when you started anyway! so it's all exciting! ..at first.
rise in people means rise of people in the toxic 1%, and also means rise of haters or people who just don't like you
sometimes you come across tweets like "why does y/n feel the need to be around ranboo, tubbo, and tommy? leave them alone ffs, she got her fame she wanted, she can leave now 🙄✋" and "we get it, girl streamers are less talented so you needed to leech off they boys' talent! like is she done yet or??" or occasional tweets saying something about shipping – which is against not only your boundaries but all of they boys' as well.
the replies being full of "use s/n, using her real name is breaking her boundaries! and if you have an issue, then don't watch the streams she's in, dickhead!", "you could just mute her name on here and not follow her twitch, you're being overdramatic for no reason", "hey hey, remember that s/n checks her indirects", "ew, deactivate", "aw, are you scared bc a girl is better than you at gaming? aw you gonna cry??", etc, makes you feel a bit better, but the punch from the original tweet lingers
after seeing a bit more, you saw the majority of the haters – and weird people – you saw the root of it was probably because you were so affectionate towards you friends and just being around them in general
so, it'd be best to stop, right? don't participate in as many streams, stop being so affectionate in general, to be honest you were already quite anxious that you being so "clingy" was annoying, the hate just solidified it
so you have a plan in line, the hard part is executing it :(
to start, you stopped complimenting them as much on stream, and the late phone calls lessened, and those became more and more noticeable before you "got too busy" to be in as many streams as you used to
I feel like ranboo would notice first and try talking to you before bringing it up to tommy and tubbo, but when you replied "oh! yeah I'm good dw :)" he knew it was a lie and went to the others
"what do you think is going on?" "I'm not sure" "whatever it is, do you think this is why she stopped being so affectionate? I miss it"
then it clicked for tommy while ranboo and tubbo still tried to figure it out
"do you think it's family problems?" "no, last time they has family problems they became more clingy and their phone calls were more frequent, not-" "wait wait wait"
tommy checked your social media platforms, of course they had more followers than before
"what? tommy?" "I think it's more of an online hate problem" tommy leaned back in his chair, running his hands over his face before looking over at the discord call as the two others made sounds of shock, "yeah, this started after her platform got bigger and she got more well known" "..you're right" "how- how do we fix it?" "address it on a stream?" "no, no, not yet, I think we should contact y/n first, see if she'll tell us if we're right or not" "I could try? last time I texted her she responded pretty quickly so maybe that still applies?" "yeah, tell us if we're right or not and we'll continue from there"
so ranboo texted you, making sure to form the text to get to the point but not scare you, he knows how anxiety inducing confrontation, especially from friends, can be for you
you didn't know exactly how to respond, would it be better if you lied? or would the truth be better?
after a few times of the "..." appearing and disappearing on ranboo's screen before you message of ",, yeah, that is the reason actually ;; I'm sorry I didn't tell you, I thought it'd be better to just distance myself :(" sent through
the boys on call could hear the frown in ranboo's voice when he sighed and said "oh" "were we right?" "just a second"
ranboo replied to you, reassuring you that you don't don't have to apologize for not telling them and it isn't your fault, making sure to remind you that you can come to either him, tommy, or tubbo whenever you want
"yeah, she got hate, and I guarantee that if we go through her indirects then we'll see what exactly happened, we may have to scroll a bit though" so they searched around on Twitter and found some, then tubbo spoke "do you think she would want to join call so we can figure out what to do to fix this?" "I can text her, though maybe we can more of distract and comfort her tonight? we can talk about the hate and stuff another time" "yeah yeah, I think that's a good idea"
so he texted you to see if you'd like to join the call, you accepted and ended up playing video games with them – mainly Minecraft servers – for a few hours before tommy had you and ranboo (assuming you're in the US or close) sign off to get some sleep (if you're in the UK or close, he had you and tubbo sign off and then signed off himself for some sleep)
the next day you guys hopped back on call to discuss how you guys would fix it, as well as them giving a bunch of positive comments about your affection :)
you guys decided on a serious stream from Tommy's account, it was either tommy or ranboo's account, but you guys chose tommy bc he's not anxious about turning off donos and other things
you guys discussed that the hate you were getting was uncalled for, and the weird comments were to be stopped immediately.
"I think that's everything? y/n, anything else?" "yeah I think that's about it, thank you guys so much!!" "alright, one more thing before we go- chat- chat, if you have an issue with y/n being in our streams just don't watch our streams! if you don't like y/n we don't want you here" "tommyyyy :(( (/pos)" "wait wait!! chat, if anyone asks or is being rude either spread clips on the stream or screenshots of the tweets we posted!! we want to make sure that everyone – even those not watching the stream – are informed!" "alright, bye chat, I better not see any more y/n negativity!!"
there wasn't negativity in chat when you went to check btw :)! it was in emote-only bc they thought it'd be the best thing to do and most of the chat was filled with hearts and other positive emotes! <33
now whenever hate stuff it posted the replies have screenshots of either tommy, tubbo, or ranboo's tweets, links to the VOD, or clips, stating the most important and the tweet is usually taken down within a matter of hours – days sometimes
and after that everything was back to normal!! you started complimenting them again, telling them how much you love them again, etc etc! you even got back into late calls :)

Escape Room: Day Three
-A young girl arrived forty-five minutes early for her game, well before the rest of her team. Her parents explained that they had not expected to make it, as they had been out of state, but their daughter had been so excited that they got in the car at three in the morning and drove straight here. Her parents' exhaustion was strong, but nothing compared to her excitement to play. I hope beyond hope to see her succeed and love every minute.
-For our hint system, we offer escapists a set of laminated cards, which are then collected when they call us in for help. This allows us to keep track of how many hints a group has remaining. One group feigned ignorance to this, refusing to hand their cards over, believing they could dupe us into free hints. They were subsequently outwitted, however, blindsided by our ability to count to three.
-As a kid discovered that he would be have a photograph placed on the winner wall alongside all previous successful escapees, he gleefully exclaimed, "We're gonna be famous!" His joy solidified his fame as my new priority in life. I will now ensure that he is immortalized both in my tales and in my heart.
-I am pleased to report that, after an entire day on the road, the aforementioned girl escaped her room with plenty of time left and had an incredible experience doing so. This validated the drive to her parents and lifted a weight off of me. I do not know how I could have handled myself if she emerged disappointed.
-A father told his son that, as a general rule of life, you do not shoot people, especially not the people who are holding all of your money. This advice was not phrased in the most eloquent way, but it is precisely what a man held at toygunpoint would say.
-A group escaped from our hardest room at the exact instant that their timer ran out and began to sound off. For the last minute, the entire staff had been holding their breath and cheering them on silently from just outside. I love having a job that gets my adrenaline pumping by just watching other people accomplish things. It gives my days so much meaning with so little effort.
-While eating lunch alone in the break room, a spare walkie-talkie went off behind my back. I heard static, followed by the desperate noises of a baby, followed by the indecipherable words of a child, followed by the hiss of an open yet silent line, followed by nothing. I fear that those who have entered our rooms yet did not escape may still be with us. I can only hope they do not seek more to join their ranks, or worse still, feed patrons free clues. That just would not be fair.
-Despite solving the requisite puzzles with little difficulty, one team found themselves trapped in the first chamber, faced with one final problem. The door refused to budge, push and pull as they might. After a great deal of deliberation, searching for missed clues, and general frustration, they slid the door to the side and carried on their way.

Reading Response #4
Tumblr media
🔍Thoughts on Emerge pp. 22-29
Throughout the chapter, the author describes how God gave Adam the cultural mandate in Genesis 1:28, instructing mankind to develop a social world and harness the natural world. In order to fulfill this mandate properly, we need to act with pure hearts, seeking to please and glorify God in everything. However, our actions become immoral whenever we dismiss God and/or elevate humanity over God. (I feel like this is all too easy to do, especially when we feel like God isn’t near!) This immorality stems from a vain quest for personal worth. People seek fame and fortune, the world’s temporary solutions to our deep-set hunger to be known and to be secure. But God is the only One who can permanently meet these needs. We can find assurance knowing that God has made us each in His own image, which makes us significant and valuable; we can find security in His unconditional love for us.
I really enjoyed reading this chapter from Emerge because the author’s point is very clear: ultimately, we are to create for the purpose of advancing God’s kingdom, not our own. That seems so simple, and yet I think it’s easy to get tripped up, especially when it comes to our quest for personal worth. Especially with today’s social media, we have to make sure we aren’t just creating for “likes” from other people. I think the author is alluding to the fact that our identity and the intended purpose for our work both play a big role in who we create for: either ourselves or God.
Another point that stuck out to me was how when we create to glorify God, our creative endeavors become acts of worship. I just love that reminder, that our creativity manifests itself in worship to God. :)
🔍Thoughts on Genesis 1:28-29
In verse 28, God blesses Adam and Eve. He then tells them to “be fruitful and increase in number,” and to have dominion over the earth. This is known as the cultural mandate. In verse 29 God provides for their needs, giving them every seed-bearing plant and tree to cultivate and eat from. This shows God’s provision and love for His people.
🔍Thoughts on Genesis 2:15
This tells me that work is something that God has given to us, and therefore shouldn’t carry a negative connotation. Also, gardening is a creative process, and that’s what it sounds like Adam is doing here. So God charged Adam and Eve with creative work.
🔍Thoughts on Matthew 28:16-20
Therefore, I believe that we as Jesus’ disciples have another mission. Not only are we supposed to fulfill the cultural mandate (create community with others and subdue the earth), but also the Great Commission (gather disciples for Jesus). Both of these directly affect our creative endeavors. As Christian artists, we must create for the purpose of glorifying God. Our lives and creative thinking (where we find inspiration, the origin of ideas, etc.) should reflect the changes brought by our relationship with Jesus, and thus set us apart from the rest of the world. In everything we do and  create, we should be reflecting Jesus and what it means to follow Him.
🔍Thoughts on “Art as a Valid Christian Activity”
I was really interested in learning more about the problems dualism causes. According to the chapter, a dualistic view divides the world into sacred vs. secular. The extreme anti-secular Christians, especially back in the day, shunned anything that brought a person pleasure; however, this is not biblical! Discriminating against pleasure is a Platonist mindset, not a Christian one. Instead, we need to recognize that Jesus is Lord over every area of life, including that which brings us pleasure (like art!). The dualistic view of the world categorizes most of culture in the secular category. This limited view is what enables people to go to church on Sunday but not allow God to influence the rest of the week. It’s the reason why art has been looked down on by Christians for centuries, because art is a large part of the culture.
Yet in order to effectively fulfill the Great Commission, we need to engage in the culture so we can connect with people. And art, when used properly, is just as much a form of communication as a sermon is. Ultimately, we first need to listen to the discussions going on in the world before we can establish ourselves as a power and presence there. I think engaging with the culture is absolutely necessary for connecting with other unbelievers. I grew up in a family that doesn’t watch a lot of TV, and our movie collection was mainly all Disney-produced. When I was in high school, I found it challenging at times to connect with my peers because I wasn’t aware of the popular movies, shows, and music. So I would agree that engaging with the culture definitely makes it easier to connect with other people.
One of the reasons why Christian art becomes flat and lifeless, and thus ineffective, is because Christian artists neglect to portray the reality of life. We try to tie up all the loose ends of our life stories to find an overarching meaning, when in fact, the stories are still being told. I loved the examples in the Bible of the endings that were unsatisfactory or even missing altogether. The Bible is effective because it’s real––it doesn’t gloss over anything or airbrush anyone. It’s full of loose threads, but that’s what makes it so relatable. Things don’t always have to be neat and tidy and finished, because that’s not how real life is. Art becomes relatable when it reflects reality, and everyone can relate with loose ends, mixed emotions, and imperfections.
As Christians, we are called to be the salt and light in the world. That doesn’t necessarily mean we need to do anything special; we just need to apply Jesus’ standards in the daily circumstances we encounter. Doing so will inevitably affect how we see and make art. Over time, we will naturally share our Christian story with others through our actions and our creations.

Being locked down at home isn’t something new or unusual for me. I have been working from home for the past nine years. And when I say working from home, I mean consciously being locked down, with my eyes in my books or on the computer screen and my hands on the keyboard most of the time.
However, this situation is unusual for my kids. Like all kids, they are finding it uneasy not being able to meet their friends and go out and play, though they understand the responsibility of not doing so as of now.
So, one of my responsibility as a “locked-at-home-father-with-locked-at-home-kids” is to come up with ideas to keep them from getting bored. And one of those ideas has been for our kids to tell us stories that they have read or heard. It’s like they are enacting as parents and me and my wife as kids, waiting to hear good night stories before we sleep.
Here is a story my eight-year-old told us last night, which I thought had a great lesson for most of us chasing success, fame, wealth, and everything that we think makes life better.
I also thought this story makes great sense in the current times of fear and uncertainty, so thought of sharing with you.
The story is from Aesop Fables and is titled The Town Mouse & the Country Mouse. Here it goes –
Tumblr media
A Town Mouse once visited a relative who lived in the country. For lunch the Country Mouse served wheat stalks, roots, and acorns, with a dash of cold water for drink. The Town Mouse ate very sparingly, nibbling a little of this and a little of that, and by her manner making it very plain that she ate the simple food only to be polite.
After the meal the friends had a long talk, or rather the Town Mouse talked about her life in the city while the Country Mouse listened. They then went to bed in a cozy nest in the hedgerow and slept in quiet and comfort until morning. In her sleep the Country Mouse dreamed she was a Town Mouse with all the luxuries and delights of city life that her friend had described for her. So the next day when the Town Mouse asked the Country Mouse to go home with her to the city, she gladly said yes.
When they reached the mansion in which the Town Mouse lived, they found on the table in the dining room the leavings of a very fine banquet. There were sweetmeats and jellies, pastries, delicious cheeses, indeed, the most tempting foods that a Mouse can imagine. But just as the Country Mouse was about to nibble a dainty bit of pastry, she heard a Cat mew loudly and scratch at the door. In great fear the Mice scurried to a hiding place, where they lay quite still for a long time, hardly daring to breathe. When at last they ventured back to the feast, the door opened suddenly and in came the servants to clear the table, followed by the House Dog.
Tumblr media
The Country Mouse stopped in the Town Mouse’s den only long enough to pick up her carpet bag and umbrella.
“You may have luxuries and dainties that I have not,” she said as she hurried away, “but I prefer my plain food and simple life in the country with the peace and security that go with it.”
Moral: Poverty with security is better than plenty in the midst of fear and uncertainty.

This story took me back to a video I had seen some years back of a TED talk given by Jon Jandai, a farmer who lived in a small village in northeastern Thailand.
Tumblr media
Jon’s life, as he described, was easy and fun. However, people from outside the village convinced him that he was poor and that he should move to Bangkok to pursue success. So he went to Bangkok in search of a better life, but quickly felt miserable staying there, luckily returned to his village, and then wondered –
Life is easy. Why do we make it so hard?
In his talk, Jon explained why he stopped chasing other people’s dreams and instead started living life on his own terms –
And before I think that stupid people like me who never get a good grade in the school, cannot have a house. Because people who are cleverer than me, who get number one in the class every year, they get a good job, but they need to work more than 30 years to have a house. But for me who cannot finish university, how can I have a house? Hopeless for people who have low education, like me.
But, then I started to do earthly building, it’s so easy. I spend two hours per day, from 5 o’clock in the morning, to 7 o’clock in the morning, two hours per day. And in three months, I got a house.
And another friend who’s the most clever in the class, he spent three months to build his house, too. But, he had to be in debt. He had to pay for his debt for 30 years. So, compared to him, I have 29 years and 10 months of free time. So, I feel that life is so easy.
He added –
Why we need to follow fashion? Because, when we follow fashion, we never catch up with it, because we follow it. So, don’t follow it, just stay here. Use what you have.
Jon also said this –
We have so many people who finish from university, have so many universities on the Earth, have so many clever people on this Earth. But, life is harder and harder. We make it hard for whom? We work hard for whom right now?
I feel like it’s wrong, it’s not normal. So, I just want to come back to normal. To be a normal person, to be equal to animals. The birds make a nest in one or two days. The rats dig a hole in one night. But, the clever humans like us spend 30 years to have a house, and many people can’t believe that they can have a house in this life. So, that’s wrong.
youtube
The stories of Jon and of the Country Mouse who dreamed of living like the Town Mouse have great lessons for a lot of us who believe that a lot is needed to live a happy life.
The lockdown proves otherwise. I am sure, like me, you may have realised that so little is needed to survive and feel secure and happy at it. The lockdown also proves that most of us have “enough” to live with contentment, if we may choose to live that way.
However, because “fear and discontent” sell better than “security and contentment,” the former is what we get used to live with most of our adult lives.
And that shows up everywhere.
Whether it is –
fear of missing out on stocks that we did not buy earlier but are rising now and making other people richer, or
discontentment of living a “visibly” inferior life compared to our friends and neighbours, or
frustration of not getting everything we desire, or
regrets from the past that don’t allow us to move forward with confidence, or
worrying about the future so much that we can’t enjoy the present, or
fear of failures and of making mistakes that keeps us from acting, or
insecurity that keeps us in our comfort zones even when they stop being safe, or
seeking validation from others to determine our own worth.
The list of our fears, insecurities, and discontentment, most of them unwarranted, is endless. However, not all these are our own creation. As Matt Haig writes in his book Reasons to Stay Alive, the world is designed to depress us and keep us there –
Tumblr media
Happiness isn’t very good for the economy. If we were happy with what we had, why would we need more? How do you sell an anti-ageing moisturiser? You make someone worry about ageing. How do you get people to vote for a political party? You make them worry about immigration. How do you get them to buy insurance? By making them worry about everything. How do you get them to have plastic surgery? By highlighting their physical flaws. How do you get them to watch a TV show? By making them worry about missing out. How do you get them to buy a new smartphone? By making them feel like they are being left behind.
To be calm becomes a kind of revolutionary act. To be happy with your own non-upgraded existence. To be comfortable with our messy, human selves, would not be good for business.
Consider investing for once. Most people invest using benchmarks set by others than what would help them sleep peacefully at night. Reasonable return expectations are looked down upon in the chase for alpha. Surprisingly, this in a game where alpha is a pipe dream for most people, including the smartest.
More people trade in stocks for emotional than sensible reasons. Portfolios are designed to look good. We are sold stock and mutual fund ideas as if our lives depended on them. And that if we don’t buy those products, we are told, we would end up in poverty and despair, even as our friends and all those friends we know on Twitter and Facebook would get rich.
People are led to make financial plans for 20-30 years ahead, while not many are taught to deal in the present with the behavioural aspects of taking care of their money, like simplicity, frugality, and patience.
Financial freedom remains a subject tied only to money and not to the peace that no amount of money or wealth would get us, but which is a subject matter of the understanding within, of course, along with enough money.
The fact is that the more we think that a lot of money is what we need to live happily, and the more we associate money with most things in life, the more we convince ourselves that we are too poor to buy our freedom.
But this is what the world is increasingly designed to do to us – always create that fear, urge, and urgency to go for more, even when we have more than enough.
However, like Haig adds to the above note –
Yet we have no other world to live in. And actually, when we really look closely, the world of stuff and advertising is not really life. Life is the other stuff. Life is what is left when you take all that crap away, or at least ignore it for a while.
Practice this in investing too, and you will be at great peace always. Take all that crap away – unwanted noise, advice, and financial products – and stick with what is the bare minimum, including the idea of having enough money and that’s it.
You won’t then have to wait for your financial freedom in the future, for the worry about having a lot of money will disappear right away, and you will start feeling grateful for what you have right now – adequate food, safe shelter, and the company of your loved ones.
That world won’t depress you, believe me.
I would like to end the post with a story I shared with my kids recently. It is about a monk and a minister.
Tumblr media
Two close boyhood friends grow up and go their separate ways. One becomes a humble monk, the other a rich and powerful minister to the king. Years later they meet up again.
As they catch up, the minister (in his fine robes) takes pity on the thin, shabby monk. Seeking to help, he says: “You know, if you could learn to cater to the king you wouldn’t have to live on rice and beans.”
To which the monk replies: “If you could learn to live on rice and beans you wouldn’t have to cater to the king!”
Stay safe, stay sane, and be grateful for this life.
And as Jon said, life is easy…let’s not make it hard.

Purpose
We as a people  struggle with purpose. The earliest of human being have sought for purpose. We ask questions like, “why are we here” and “what am I supposed to do with myself.” We look for purpose, our reason to live in a myriad of places, people, institutions, and thoughts. We seek purpose in our jobs. We live and die at the places we work because for some, that is all there is for them. Getting up everyday to repeat your life over and over again.  Our loved ones is a popular choice that we find purpose in. Our kids become what we live and breath providing for them and their every need. There are parents, that even when their babies are thirty-five years of age still provide their every need without question. Our significant other that holds us so close and keeps us grounded. We tend to look for love of another person to find satisfaction and happiness in the world. What else better to put our hopes and dreams into than a special someone? Some do not even cherish that so called loved one. But rather seek sexual desires and make that their purpose. Our sports team are another popular favorite. We organize our whole schedule to go see them play wherever they may be. Spend hundreds of dollars for season tickets and purchase special passes to see them in person. We even at times take the life of another because our passion is so great. Some of us are brought to the brink of self-destruction due not finding a purpose or reason to live. We delve into drugs to bridge that gap of what we are unable to find. For some it is drinking with reckless abandonment just to see if we will wake up the next day. Others of us sniff and inject products in our bodies because they lost sight of how valuable they are. We seek an escape, a way out, a filler for the emptiness we experience in the core of our being.
There is this hole in the center of who man is that can never be filled with things that were made. For the only thing that has the capacity to do so is the One that made all things. Mark 5:25-34 tells us there was a woman that suffered from bleeding for twelve years. In those years she searched and pleaded with anyone that could give her any hope of a cure to her condition. It says she spent all she had and grew worse from their “treatments.” She heard of this Jesus that was going around and sought Him out. She found him and with utter persistence she came to the feet of Jesus with all humility and she touched the fringes of His robes and became completely healed. No payment, no contract, no time limit, fully, healed. In Matthew 7:24-27 Jesus tells us that the one who hears His words and does not do them is a foolish man building his house on sand. That was me. I had built my life on faulty, worthless, and contradictory lifestyles that the world taught me to chase and perform. After my chase, I was left broken, I had a large amount of anger, I felt worthless, and I did not know why. I thought this is what a guy does, this is what I was supposed to do, I followed all the rules, I was a good dude, so the universe is obligated to reward me. My house that I established was shiny wrapping paper. It could not stand in the midst of hardship, struggle, terror and keep me safe. They were not the unfailing words of Jesus which can be built upon to be a safe retreat for those in need.
We suck in all the sexual pleasures, monetary gain, prideful ownership, drugs, fame, exhilarating events that make our blood rush, ways that “are not hurting anyone else” because they make us feel good or validated and still expect them to save us in times of our desperation and only make us worse. My friend, please give them up to Jesus Christ and He will restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you. (1 Peter 5:10). He has promised eternity with His creation. He has promised in his faithfulness that He will exchange your misery for joy, hate for worship, loneliness for fellowship, and depression for purpose. He will take what you are and transform you into what you are meant to be. Only Jesus can satisfy the hole buried with in your heart that longs to be filled. No longer will we suffer from having no where to shelter our hearts for He will stand through the storm, our safe retreat.
The aim of our charge is love that issues from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith. -1 Timothy 1:5

Hedwig Finding Herself
Mass media consumes everyone, whether it is watching the news, listening to the radio, following tweets from celebrities, media is everywhere. It plays a huge role in people’s everyday lives, but media can be dishonest and biased. There are so many movies in Hollywood that have main characters who are minorities. Those movies’ sadly focus on the challenges of that minority community and how to overcome them or the character is shown as different or oppressed. In Hedwig and the Angry Inch, the main character used to be known as Hansel, a boy who loved rock and roll. Due to wanting to escape communism, Hansel went through a botched sex change so she could marry a man and escape East Berlin. Throughout odd jobs, Hedwig met a misunderstood teenage boy named Tommy who is confused about his Christian beliefs. Hedwig and Tommy both find a love for rock and roll music and create songs together, just for Tommy to steel Hedwig lyrics and become a famous rock star. Throughout Tommy’s tour, Hedwig with her band and loyal groupies follow Tommy and preform at small restaurants near his venues. The movie Hedwig and the Angry Inch, demonstrates how media tends to have an oppressed main character who is depicted as lost, try to overcome challenges that only that minority may face while still trying to stay true to her identity.
The main character Hedwig, is a transgender who forms a band that follows Tommy Gnosis, to find justice for Hedwig writing all of Tommy’s songs. Hedwig has no fame, she wears makeup, dresses in tight clothes, wears nail polish, and people tend to not look her way. Tommy Gnosis, the heterosexual rock and roll star, wears tight clothes, wears eyeliner, wears nail polish, and has a ton of fame. Hedwig and Tommy both have similarities when it comes to appearance, yet Tommy does not follow the strict gender representation of a boy and he still has fame. Does their sexuality delude their fame? Fausto-Sterling stresses that “labeling someone a man or a woman is a social decision” (Fasuto 3). Scientifically, Hedwig did not have a specific label, she was left with a botched surgery leaving her with an inch of flesh between her legs. On the outside she may have looked like a woman, but to some people she looks like a man dressing up as a woman. She is an oppressed character that makes her infamous who tries to seek justice for her music. Based on her appearance she is considered to be different or distraught. If Hedwig was a heterosexual woman who wrote Tommy’s song, the story line would be a lot different.
Tumblr media
Although Hedwig is a minority to society, she never strives away from her true self to find justice in her music. She never tries to be something that she’s not in order to become famous or allow Tommy to tell the truth about him stealing music from her. She does get unfair treatment with her not being able to be taken seriously and have ownership over her music, but she never tries to be what society wants her to be. Not once does she dress like a man or stop dressing the way she feels beautiful to please her audience. Gross explains how mass media displays gay people as weak, silly, evil, or corrupt, but that they also exclude and deny normality. In media, gays are never shown as normal people, there always has to be some type of violence, disappointment, or unfair treatment (Gross 17). Hedwig being the main character is not seen as normal and she does have disappointments with her career. She faces struggles that a heterosexual character did not have to face. Tommy stole Hedwig’s music, but no one believed her because of her appearance and lake of fame, yet Tommy is a heterosexual male who claims ownership of her music.
Tumblr media
One song that Hedwig sings is how she believed that two humans were joined together, they consisted of four legs and four arms and one head with two faces. In the song she sings that god separated them and from then on, two people have been looking for their other half (Hubley 2001). The movie shows the Hedwig is trying to find some type of justification for her botched surgery or searching for validation of her accomplishments. It seems that Hedwig is also confused about her own gender due to her surgery. Hedwig does not succeed emotionally for herself. At the end of the movie she does become famous but it is only because of an accident that Tommy and herself had. Once they get into a car accident and are photographed together, then Hedwig becomes known and Tommy’s popularity goes down. By the end of the movie though, Hedwig is reunited by her band and Tommy is begging for forgiveness, but does that scene happen in her head or in real life? The end of the movie is Hedwig naked, walking out of an alley. She is alone and unclothed at the end of the movie, that could also mean that she is reborn into society has her true, bare, self and has finally found self-peace.

Life is Easy. Why Do We Make It So Hard?
Value Investing Almanack: 5th Anniversary Offer: Value Investing Almanack, our premium newsletter that subscribers call “the best resource on Value Investing in India” recently completed its 5th year, and is now back in a new avatar, and packed with even better content.
