Memory loss related character development for Hector that isn’t centered around our favorite stinky raider for a change
Hector has instinctively negative feelings towards religious themes. Rationally, he tries not to judge, let people believe in what they want to believe when it gives them joy and strength. It’s only natural for them to want to share that feeling with others. And he’s happy for them, really!
But he can’t help the instant sour mood that befalls him when he’s confronted with worship of any deity. He doesn’t like being in churches. He sneers involuntarily when he sees people pray. Being preached at activates his fight or flight response. For those who notice, it just reinforces the vampire rumors surrounding him.
He knows people only mean the best when they send blessings, prayers and god-be-with-yous. He knows Pastor Clements is a good man – exceptionally so for including all faiths without judgement. He knows the Children of Atom have the right to believe in whatever the hell they want.
He doesn’t know why his hackles rise instinctively at those well-meaning people. He doesn’t know why Clements makes him uncomfortable to the point he’s almost fearful. He doesn’t know why he gets the sudden urge to eradicate every last Child of Atom in existence.
Sometimes he wants to find out why, to get to the bottom of what caused him to be this way. But he’s worried about just what he might uncover, and in the end always arrives at the conclusion that it’s best to let sleeping dogs lie.
