My favorite dramas of 2023
Honorable mention: Death Games which is still in release, so I won't include it here yet.
Alchemy of Souls Light and Shadow: As it ended this year I will include one of the biggest obsessions for me in recent years, it was a sublime experience following this drama and despite some unnecessary complaints regarding Go Younjung (who was not to blame for anything and that the hate and misogyny towards a new actress was very unfair) part 2 was a good conclusion to the story, perhaps if there had been more episodes and less insistence on the memory loss plot, and more screen time for the main couple who were the more charismatic characters that supported the plot alone, could have been even better.
Moving: The best drama released this year.
Moving is a story that is not just about the power of a superhero saving the homeland, but about family ties, friendship and companionship.
The story manages to make you relate to the characters with all their anguish, joys and despite them having unusual powers, they are believable and identifiable characters.
Everything in this drama was perfect, from the script, cast, photography, CGI, soundtrack, etc.
Twinkling Watermelon: I love watching stories that focus on family relationships, and one where we have a son going back to the past and meeting his own parents in his youth would definitely be a hit.
I liked how they approached music, art and sign language in this story and how relationships built from these shared experiences between people can change someone's destiny to live life better and enjoy it even with difficulties along the way.
Some things bothered me but nothing that took away the shine of the story for me.  It was exciting to follow the journey of such charismatic characters.
Daily Dose of Sunshine: This drama deserved more recognition.  The way he portrayed mental health was very sensitive and human.  The actors were incredible, especially Park Bo Young who delivered a believable and emotional character.
My Journey to You: The most anticipated drama for me this year did not disappoint despite the open ending.
I believe that the entire story was so incredible and well executed that the ending didn't interfere with the watching experience.
The highlight of this cdrama was the female characters, I thought that even though most of them were spies/assassins they were very diverse, each one with a motivation and past that made them neither good or bad but rather human and complex.
Till The End Of The Moon: I confess that I expected to love this one more.  I don't know if I created many expectations that were broken by the dream part, which I found exhausting and broke the rhythm of the drama for me.  But it was still very striking, an iconic and well-executed enemies to lovers.  The main couple had a lot of chemistry and both as solo characters supported the story itself.  Tantai Jin was incredible and complex👉🏻 simply the most suffering demon I've ever seen
The Glory: I had high expectations regarding this drama, which were met and I believe that waiting to watch it after releasing all the episodes was the best option, because this way it didn't end up breaking the rhythm of the story and I could appreciate the way it was conducted revenge unlike some.
It's the first time I've watched something by Song Hye Kyo and I was positively surprised, she's a great actress.
The Good Bad Mother: I love stories focused on the relationship between mother and child, because even though it is different from my reality because I live on another continent, I can still relate to some issues that are universal.
The highlight of this drama was the performances and the cast's great rapport.  If the ending hadn't been so rushed and there had been about 2 more episodes, it would have closed the story perfectly.
King the Land: This was the best romcom of the year for me.  I looked forward to the weekends so I could be graced by the smiling couple.  It was the cliché and comfort I needed after a stressful week of work.
I loved the vibe and lightness of old dramas that King the Land brought back.
And thankfully they avoided the murder plot in the middle of the story haha
I loved seeing Yoona doing an unpretentious romcom after a heavier drama like her previous one.
Doona: I confess that I was very involved in this drama, I don't think it was perfect but there was a lot of dedication and envolviment from the main couple, they had a lot of chemistry and the melancholy and uncertainty that the story brought really impacted me.

The Bangtan Gal Chapter 69- GAYO Daechukje & GAYO Daejejun
Tumblr media
Chapter Summary: JenKook shippers finally catch Jungkook staring at Jennie when they film Season's Greetings. Jen takes fans to church with her improved vocals and Aliee inspired high note during a secret collab with some of her fellow 97 Liners. (Jungkook fluff!)
Words: 7,000+
Author's Note: Ironically, the V, Jimin and Jungkook hide and seek video at the end of this chapter was the reason I wanted to make this story years ago back in 2016. I asked myself what if a girl was with them? And funny enough, I switched it up and let this be where the most crucial moment happens in the story. I like how things came full circle. And I don't regret taking a break from writing and editing every single chapter so far, deleting and adding things. I like how things have come about. Stay tuned :) Thank you for sticking with me to this point.
------
After opening presents, Jennie decided to check out BTS’ Seasons Greetings which they filmed. She enjoyed filming for it and loved the photoshoots and her outfits.
They had filmed in Yangpyeong to shoot this year’s Season’s Greetings. After Jimin had done his shoot first, Jennie was dressed as Princess Tiana in her yellow waitress outfit. While she watched herself posing on the screen, she felt so giddy. She loved being Tiana and chuckled when she watched the Maknae Line trying to distract her with funny faces.
“She is too cute.” Hobi took some photos of her
After posing around, she then changed into Tiana's green dress.
“I feel like a princess.” she twirled around.
The photos of her being Tiana went viral and even got to Black Twitter and the Cosplay community which gave her even more exposure and followers on Instagram. It touched her to see her photos as Tiana be received so positively.
“Ah, Jennie, she looks so pretty.” Jimin smiled
Sitting on the couch, Jennie read, “A quick interview...”
‘Any regrets for the year 2015?’
“Hm...nah, not really. Whatever mistakes I’ve made, I learned from them and moved on. No regrets for 2015.”
‘What is your goal for next year?’
“I want to rap. I’ve been learning thanks to Suga but I’m not sure if I’m ready to showcase it yet. That’s a goal for 2016, that I would love to do. And also to be more charismatic on stage, getting the crowd moving. I want to be a great performer and be able to have the ability to stand on the stage and the crowd gets hyped with just looking at me. And another goal is to continue to improve my vocals.”
‘2015 was a tough year. Say a word to yourself.’
“You’re improving every day. Keep going.”
‘What will you be like in 10 years?’
“Hm...2025...I'd like to be married by that time. I also just want to be happy and make sure I’m enjoying life while still being successful with Bangtan."
After the interview, Jen watched Yoongi’s photoshoot as Jack Frost. He looked so adorable with his white hair and blue contacts. After he was done, she chilled with him on the couch and he fell asleep with his head on her shoulder. Soon after, she had placed her head on top of his to take a short nap.
Of course, when you nap around the members, they’ll mess with you, so Jungkook, Hobi and Jin were taking funny photos and laughing at how they didn’t get caught.
“Wow, so y’all really took photos of us?” Jen murmured as she continued to watch what was happening on the screen.
When they moved to the next destination, she watched Jungkook laugh while he messed with Jimin’s hair. She thought it was one of the best things she had ever heard and it brought joy to her heart, hearing him so happy.
When she walked past J-Hope, Jimin and Jungkook trying to harmonize, especially with J-Hope’s little high note, Jen commented sarcastically, “That was beautiful.” and the three boys burst out in laughter
Walking into a room, she was joined by two female stylists who shut the door and helped her get changed.
“I’m wearing that?” she pointed to the black lace dress with the open back.
When they had giggled and said yes, Jennie was here for it and became excited. This had to be her favorite outfit by far. After getting her hair and makeup done, she put on the dress and checked herself out in the mirror.
“I love this so much.” she beamed.
When she walked out, Jungkook had been occupied, taking photos for his individual shots. But when his attention turned to the door and he saw her, he had to do a double take. He immediately stopped posing with the red guitar and opened his mouth to stare in awe. He couldn’t even concentrate, anymore. She looked gorgeous.
Just wow...
With Jennie, her back was to him, talking in front of the camera filming her spinning around to show off the short black lace dress.
“You know what? Out of every outfit I have worn, this is my favorite. Like, look at this dress! The stylists hooked me up! I look great! Who am I going home with today?” she joked.
ARMY on Tumblr, who had already made posts and gifs about BTS Seasons Greetings 2016, had finally caught Jungkook. They caught him staring at her in the background while she spoke on camera. He had been sitting down at the time, taking a break from his shoot so the camera crew could check out the photos so far. He was just watching her, longer than usual.
At one point he had to take a walk for a moment to control himself.
Fans had commented:
‘It took forever to find this moment but CAUGHT!’
‘Don’t @ me, he was clearly staring at her ass XD’
‘His face is priceless! What he concentrating so hard for?’
'He better get in line!! We all want her! She fine as hell! I know she can fight but can Jungkook fight? Cause we all want Jennie lmfao'
'SHE IS MOTHER!! MY GAWDDDD! HER BODY IS BODYING!'
'There is just something about this woman right here...'
'MA'AM!'
'Waiiiiiiiiiitttttt!'
'LMFAO did you see his hands twitch like he wanted to grab her!?'
'Jennie is growing too fast! Slow down baby girl omg!'
'It just doesn't make any sense how fine she got over the years!'
'She is so fine for what!?'
'I love her so bad! Nobody is doing it like her. The face card! The BODY!? She is gonna eat every time!'
'I bet you if she saw the way he was staring at her she'd fold. Cause shit I would! He staring HARD!'
'Just give me three and a half minutes, maybe even four!'
‘Ooh, Jennie watch out. My international playboy senses are tingling. I think it’s safe to say that you are clearly wanted by the Golden Maknae.’
‘She said who am I going home with today, I think Jungkook wants to take her home, ahahaha’
‘Haha, that’s probably the biggest behind he has ever seen, and he just doesn’t know what to do XD’
‘Uh oh, somebody collect this boy!’
‘Jungkook, whatcha staring at my boi?’
'Lmfao Jungkook can not handle all that. There is no way'
'Do you know how strong Jungkook is? Yes tf he can handle that! He'd pin her down in a heartbeat!'
'Agreed. He can use his strength on me if she don't want him. I volunteer as tribute!'
'I hope y'all know that Jungkook is not the pure little baby y'all think he is.'
'War of hormone 2.0!'
'I love when she wears bodycon clothes! It hugs her body so nicely! I don't blame him for staring, she looks amazing!'
‘Ayooo he really is staring hard. Kookie, you’ve been caught!’
‘I love how he tried to look away when he finally noticed the camera. You already got busted XD’
‘Guys...I’m actually here for this. If he likes her or something, I hope he shoots his shot very soon’
‘Jungkook, you ain’t slick.’
‘He looks like he about to pounce, hahahah’
‘Jeon Jungkook you have excellent taste. Please risk it all. Our Golden Maknae has become a man.’
‘JenKook shippers rejoice! I am so here for this! Look at how he looks at her! I see love in his eyes, I’m screaming’
‘She is a whole woman! Looking like a snack! I think he got up from his seat to restrain himself, I’m cackling’
‘Is he OK? She got him in a trance, lol’
‘He was so focused on her that he didn’t realize he was also in the shot’
‘This is tea! Haters are pressed! I love it. There is no denying that he’s into her.’
‘Seeing this gives me hope’
‘Pretty sure he enjoyed the view, lol’
‘I hope Jennie sees this on Tumblr, soon. I know she lurks on the BTS tag. Let’s get these notes to a high number. Keep reblogging and liking’
‘My boi is ready!’
‘And she has no idea! That’s the crazy part! Someone look at me like that when I’m not looking.’
‘That’s some...intense staring Jungkook. Care to explain?’
‘Hol’ up, I know this man wasn’t checking out our girl and tried to be slick when he noticed the camera.’
When Jungkook was back taking photos, he kept getting distracted by her.
“Jungkook-ah! Look at the camera. Focus!” the staff called out, amused.
They knew exactly what was going on. They thought it was cute to see him like this.
Turning around, Jennie found herself watching him. The hair, the suit, he looked fine as hell if she was being honest. This time, Jungkook had caught her watching and smiled. She had smiled back and looked away, feeling her cheeks flush.
“Jennie! Where is the rest of your dress?” Jin exclaimed, pointing at the exposed back.
“This is the dress.” she laughed
“Oh, my goodness. Why do you do this to me?” he asked the stylists who giggled at his dramatic complaining.
“Let’s have Jungkook and Jennie together.” The staff requested.
As soon as JenKook heard that they would be taking photos together, their mood was boosted as bright smiles were on their faces. With his red guitar in his hands, Jen had her acoustic guitar and they stood back to back, posing for the camera before doing various other poses. If anything, it truly looked like they were dating based on how close they were and how they would look at each other.
While watching the season’s greetings video, Jennie recalled how handsome Jungkook looked in that suit. They made a great pair for that photoshoot and their chemistry was off the charts.
She continued to watch as the members were involved in a quiz. She remembered failing miserably. But it was hilarious to see J-Hope get the shorthand of the stick. Poor Hobi.
--------
Seeing all the JenKook posts from Season’s Greetings, an ARMY created a Tumblr post called:
‘Why I ship JenKook, want them to date, think they could be dating right now and support Jungkook liking Jennie’
Yeah! I said it! All you haters are pressed! It’s no denying that Jungkook likes our beautiful black queen and I’m here for it! I’m here to state the facts and make haters more pressed because I’m petty like that. So, let’s get started! Block me if you want idgaf, there is no other ship in Bangtan that is more friggin obvious than JenKook. Not BamJen, not Jennie and Hayoon (JenYoon), not JenMin, not Taennie, no other damn ship with Jennie is more obvious and more real than JenKook. FIGHT ME!
ARMY is back on their investigation habits and this time it involves our beloved Maknaes. The Golden Maknae and our Miss Bangtan. It’s been a few years since Jen arrived and was introduced as a member of the group. Some were skeptical but over time people have grown to love and support her. AS THEY SHOULD and stop getting so damn pressed when someone black is in K-Pop or associated with someone in K-Music.
Now, over time Jungkook’s demeanor has changed when he’s around her. Let’s start with some major points ARMY has caught. And if there are points I missed, which I know I did, add them to the thread.
Number One- Their Rookie King kiss! This was just the cutest thing. Remember their heads were pushed together thanks to the members when they were playing the pepero game as a punishment? I’m sure we all kind of freaked out when Jennie said “Let’s play” when Jungkook felt bad that she was stuck with him in the game. Our babies looked so adorable that day and Jennie also revealed on After School Club that Jungkook was her first kiss. FIRST KISS GUYS! It wasn’t Bam Bam! It wasn’t Jimin! It wasn’t Taehyung! It wasn’t any of your ships! It was Jeon Jungkook! Look at the video for the receipts!
Number Two- Jenkook during the of course game on Rookie King episode 8. This has to be one of the most underrated JenKook moments. I loved them bickering. They seem so competitive but have soft spots for each other. When Jungkook said, “...but you and I both know you can’t stay mad at me forever.” I nearly died because Jennie couldn’t fight that growing smile on her face. Soooo cute. And then when he said, “...you liked our kiss.” I was like ohhhh where did this confidence come from? He even said on After School Club that he wasn’t sorry for being her first kiss and Jen only wished that she was a better kisser so their kiss would’ve been more enjoyable. GUYS! This man is not sorry for kissing her! And this woman said she wanted to be a better kisser for him! Um hello!
Number Three- American Hustle Life, when Jungkook ignores the guys and notices Jennie first at the restaurant. And following that interview, they both talked about their friendship. Did you see how happy they looked talking about each other? “Do you know those friendships where you don’t even remember how you guys became such great friends? To be around someone who you click with so easily and that can make your day, that’s how I feel about my bond with him.” Same Jennie, same. My heart is full!
Number Four- Who can forget their sexy war of hormone dance? This broke the internet! I swear I thought they were dating, their chemistry is off the damn charts. From the music video to performing live, just how he LOOKS at her makes me freak tf out. I know Jungkook was always on cloud nine when he got to dance so close. Your favs will never have that so stay hating on JenKook! They are here to stay!
Number Five- JenKook on Running Man. Look at how protective they are of each other. Have you ever noticed how they always stick together and find their way back to each other? True love! And Jungkook with his offense and Jen with her defense makes them a dangerous duo. They aren’t called the Golden Duo for nothing. It’s wise to be on the same team as them tbh. And remember their famous “I got you.” and "I got you, first." line during their couple episode together? I died of happiness! Best Marvel couple ever!
Number Six- Their adorable dog! Tony! Whenever they’re away on schedule, Tony stays with Jungkook’s parents. But omg the fact that he gave her the dog because he remembers her mentioning she wanted a Jack Russell Terrier is so adorable. They are wonderful parents to the cutie. One happy family. Their photos with Tony are just the best. I love it when they bicker about who Tony loves more, too. I can just imagine Jungkook walking up to Jennie and Tony sleeping on his bed. Hahaha, I bet that is already happening!
Number Seven- When Jen came back to continue filming BTS NOW 2 after she had that scary pineapple allergic reaction, Jungkook RAN, not walked, RAN to hug her and he was the first one to spot her. Come on! The feels! Soulmate goals! It was like he knew she was coming before he spotted her as he turned in the direction of where she was arriving.
Number Eight- The tension escalator! Their height difference is so cute. Do you see how he LOOKS at her!? You can’t deny that he thinks she’s pretty. I really thought he was going to kiss her when he lifted her chin and pressed his forehead down on hers. And Jennie looked so nervous! I truly believe that she was hoping to kiss him.
Number Nine- During ISAC, when Jungkook was whispering strategy in her ear during women’s wrestling. Like I know it was just innocent talking but having him whisper in her ear like that, omg how can she be so calm!? Unless she wasn’t on the inside. And guess who was there for Jungkook at the end of the finish line during the 400m relay? Jennie! And he ran up to her and they fell down hugging! Ahhhhh!
Number Ten- During Jen’s V-Live when she was showing off the smartie factory and Jungkook joined her. Look at how he stares at her! And look at how she smiles at him! How happy she gets when he’s with her! Look at these receipts! Look at these screenshots! Look at these gifs! My ship is here to stay! Screw these other ships! It is nowhere in comparison! Like, his big smile is so cute. And peep how jealous Kook got when Jen read comments of ARMY shipping her and Shawn Mendes. Come on now, he likes her! Or they’re probably dating right now, and we are just seeing the signs! Something is going on ARMY. Someone likes someone!
Number Eleven- THIS at season’s greetings! He was clearly staring at her in that dress! And he was mesmerized by what her momma gave her! As he should! HE GOT CAUGHT staring at her ass at Season’s Greetings! He even got up to walk away to restrain himself! I just know he was trying hard to calm himself down! My boi wants her bad! Look at the screenshots that ARMY took! It’s there, it’s game over, you cannot win this argument. All you haters get so bent outta shape when idols, especially male idols show interest in Jennie and say that she’s pretty or take photos with her. But no matter what haters think, our girl remains unbothered and continues to rise with Bangtan. Deal with it!
The moral of the story is...something is going on and I don’t think they are just friends. I think that they either like each other or are probably secretly dating. ARMY, what do you think? You think Jungkook might shoot his shot? Let’s hope he does.
P.S- Jennie, if you come across this on Tumblr, OMG, I love you, you are amazing and gurl! Get your man!
-------
Backstage at KBS Gayo Daechukje, Rapmon was absent due to an unfortunate accident during rehearsal. Jen was bummed and worried since he would have to sit out of the performances but he seemed to be doing just fine.
It was also Taehyung’s birthday and the members surprised him with a cake. Jennie had created him a birthday box based on the anime that he has been watching as of late and he giggled uncontrollably, excited about it.
When he opened the letter, it read:
Ahhhh my baby Tae Tae! Happy birthday my boy! Those nights when I was lonely when I first came here, you were there and showed me all around Seoul to get used to my surroundings. If it wasn’t for your kindness, I’m not quite sure where I would’ve been when I first arrived at Big Hit.
You have changed my life for the better when I stepped foot here. Your vocals give me LIFE. Your deep voice is a blessing and your lines for our songs have got to be my favorite no matter how short or long they are.
Your silliness is one of the main things I love about you. You always know when to make me laugh and boost up my mood. Your love for Bangtan is unconditional and I thank you for being there whenever we’re down.
Hey, by the way, have you considered trying out for a K-Drama? Your acting skills are really good. Like, have you seen yourself when we filmed I Need U, RUN and the prologue? I hope you do something with acting because I would love to watch you in action. I’ll be your biggest fan always. Your daily dose of weirdness is always appreciated too. You are quite the character, my friend. And your cute boxy smile makes my heart fill with joy. Keep smiling, I love seeing it.
Also, thanks for always dancing with me at these awards shows. I can always count on you to turn up with me. How about we turn up at the Seoul Music Awards, too? You down? Hahah! You better be! Let’s hope that you can finally get into Cypher soon! I love you very much Tae. I’ll always be your Ennie.
Love,
Ennie <3
Taehyung immediately embraced her and gave her multiple kisses on the cheek. “Thank you so much, Ennie. I love it.”
“I’m glad. Happy birthday, Tae Tae.”
As the show went on, Jennie was already dressed for BTS’ performance and hung out with some of her idol friends. Jungkook, dressed in his outfit for his collab with Zion T, went to find her. He was nervous and she was the first person he thought of that could give him that extra strength to go out there and perform.
He soon found her talking with Bam Bam while GOT7 looked on with heart eyes.
‘Let her decide.’ was what he had talked to Bam Bam about. They had a full discussion about their feelings for her and Jungkook’s competitive nature came by as he told him that he wasn’t going to lose to him. The two held no grudges against each other and would remain good friends no matter what.
As much as Jungkook didn’t want to give up on her, if she did choose Bam Bam, then as long as she was happy, he’d be happy. He would never force her to love him. He could never do that. But something in him had faith that things would work out in his favor. He was going to fight for her until the end.
“Kook! Hey, ready for your collab?” she waved as he greeted them.
“Actually, can you be there with me?” he requested.
“Yeah, of course. I got you.” she turned to Bam Bam who smiled and nodded. “I’ll see you later.” she grabbed onto Jungkook’s arm, walking with him near the stage.
“Ah...I think I’m about to lose this battle.” Bam Bam murmured to Jackson as he watched them walk away.
“What?! Why you think that?” Jackson exclaimed
When JenKook stood by the steps, the stylist tended to him as he talked in front of the Bangtan Bomb camera.
“Thanks for being here with me. I really needed you.” he smiled at Jennie.
“Always.”
“Do I look okay? Ah, I’m so nervous.”
“You look great. Don’t be nervous. Everything is going to go smoothly. Just go out there and do what you do best. I’m proud of you, Kook.”
She looked on ahead as Jungkook’s gaze lingered on her. Moments later, she caught him.
Tumblr media
“All right, you look like you really want to tell me something. What is it?” she chuckled. “Like you really want to tell me something important. Like you have something that you really need to say to me, so what is it?”
“Watch me out there, okay?”
“I will.”
“Is my face okay?”
“Jungkook...” she rolled her eyes.
“Ah, why am I ugly?” he checked his face out from the Bangtan Bomb camera.
“Boy, you look fine as hell. Relax.” she blurted out causing him to turn and grin at her.
“Really?”
“Yeah. You’re not ugly, you’re far from that. So, stop saying that, mkay?” she kissed his forehead since his hair was parted. “I’ll be right here watching. Have fun up there.”
As they heard the last performance before him, Jennie was in awe of ALi’s high note and gave Jungkook a quick hug as he walked up on the stage to perform.
She smiled softly as she watched him sing. He looked so handsome in the sweater and his voice was undeniably gifted. She couldn’t get enough of his voice and his duality was insane.
After the performance was over, she quickly wrapped her arms around him, giving him multiple kisses on the cheek.
“That was amazing!” she beamed.
“You really think so?”
“Yeah! You two were great up there! Come on, you gotta get changed.”
As soon as Ailee was on stage to perform Mind Your Business, Jennie ran backstage until she was able to get a glimpse of the performance. A Bangtan Bomb was filmed of her jamming out and singing along, watching her in admiration. But then she had to rush back and get to her position for BTS’ performance. Jimin had a dance solo for Butterfly and then they performed a jazz remix of Dope and then Run.
For the next night, at MBC Gayo Daejejun, BTS performed I Need U and Run. They were also given the honor of covering Shinhwa’s Perfect Man. Jennie remained in the back, dancing powerfully and on beat with the rest of the guys. A smile came across her lips as she watched Jimin from behind. He put so much effort into this cover, she was proud of him.
He was really going hard and it surprised her as even his voice growled while he sang. She knew he was about to go off when he took his jacket off.
After the performance, she hugged and praised him after the performance which made him feel great about himself as he giggled. When they did their final rehearsal, he kept rambling on how he thought he got wrong but thanks to her words, his doubts went away.
Later, the members were filmed for their Happy New Year greetings.
“ARMY! Let’s hope for another year of happiness and success.” Jen smiled. “Not much longer before 2016 is here and I have great hopes for it. 2015 was a rush. So much has happened but you guys make us who we are. If you can, try some smarties! And I hope to portray a more awesome version of myself this coming year. Listen well and keep watching me, mkay?” she waved.
After filming, Jen tweeted, ‘Er...I’m freaking out about this performance. I hope you enjoy it. I’m really nervous. I hope I don’t disappoint you.’
This got ARMY pondering if she would be doing a collab with someone. Keeping it hidden from the members, Jennie was set to collaborate with her best friend Hayoon, Jimin from JYP who is always hosting After School Club and Jihyo from Twice. They were all 97 Liners and they were given the opportunity to cover Little Mix’s About The Boy and have fun thinking about what they wanted to do for the performance.
Jimin had picked the song since they were offered a choice of which song they wanted to perform. They thought it was a good idea to not do something as popular as Bang Bang by Jesse J, Nicki Minaj and Ariana Grande and whatever other popular English songs are out there.
“So, you wanna sing about boys? Who has you in your feelings?” Jennie had joked around with Jimin
They’ve been practicing at Source Music, where GFriend is, to keep away from everyone else. Jennie suggested that the performance should let them show off who they are as performers and have fun. And she also had to step up her game because each one of these ladies has great vocals and she wanted to make sure that she kept up.
They worked very hard for this moment and Jennie was even given the opportunity to DJ for the song. So, she created her own twist to the song to get the crowd moving. While the rest planned to dance in the front on stage, she would be in the back for a while, mixing the song. When they discussed line distribution, they chose her to do the high note which Jen actually wanted because she wanted to take a risk. After spending weeks practicing the song and their choreography, they felt ready.
There were some struggles when practicing but practicing with the girls made Jen get closer to each of them. There were times when she felt overwhelmed and cried because things weren’t going well, but then after a while, things were falling into place and they finally got the performance down. Each of them had helped create the choreography for the dance. They wanted to do a dance break as well to show off their fierce side, their cute side, and their sexy side. And since BTS and GFriend are great with synchronization in dancing, the four girls worked very hard to make sure that they could accomplish that.
This was actually what Jennie wanted to do with Amity. Be creative and do various performances for fun while each member has time to shine, including dance breaks. But at least she could now do it here when she was able to collab with other female idols.
They were ready to show that the 97 Liners were a force to be reckoned with and they were proud to be able to represent the 97 Liners with this performance. They hoped that everyone would enjoy what they had to offer.
Jimin suggested that they wear similar outfits. Jennie wore knee-high boots with jeans, a black mesh crop top and a green bomber jacket that was zipped. The others wore different colored mesh crop tops and bomber jackets such as pink, blue and yellow.
When it was time, the girls held their hands in a circle and went for a group hug. Walking on the stage with the lights dimmed, Jennie placed her purple headphones around her neck while preparing to DJ. The performance would start on her cue.
After hearing the crowd scream and cheer when the group was announced and the lights went on, Jen exhaled. She gave a nod of approval to Jihyo, Hayoon, and Jimin when they glanced back at her.
Let’s hype the crowd and show them not to sleep on them.
“Hey, ladies, I don’t think they ready for this one,” Jen announced and pulled up her sleeves.
Jihyo, Jimin, and Hayoon had started off singing in acapella
Something about
Something about the boy
Something about
Something about the boy
Once the funky music came in, Jen went right to work, getting hype with the girls as they clapped their hands to get the crowd moving.
“Whoop! Hey! Come on!” they had all yelled in excited voices.
Listening to Jimin sing, Jennie nodded her head to the beat, occasionally following the choreography from the booth while she focused on the rhythm.
It’s the verse in my head
The words that make me stutter
The swag in my step
The change from gray to color
Jen smiled and glanced up at hearing Hayoon sing, No need to try, He’s just right.
She loved how her voice would flow so heavenly like that. It was sweet and fit great with the song. All their voices went well, equally balanced.
I won't stop until the boy is mine
He got me good
I’ve got it bad
He got me feeling like a girl gone mad
As the chorus came on, the girls performed the choreography fiercely, exciting the audience.
I know he’s playing my heart and I ain’t got no choice
There’s just something about the boy
Tumblr media
When the camera had panned to her, Jen grabbed her mic while moving side to side like the others, singing lowly, “Something about, something about the boy. Something about, something about the boy. Something about, something about the boy.”
“Whew...” Jungkook exhaled and shook his head in disbelief when he watched her from backstage.
He tried his best to keep his cool but watching her, he began to struggle while his eyes were glued to her whenever she appeared on the screen.
She would always say that she fakes acting sexy on stage but it truly looked like she knew exactly what she was doing based on those alluring stares. And the way she was dancing and moving those hips, she was having the time of her life on that stage while DJing.
“Where did all of this come from? Was that a sexy smile?” Jin called out.
“She learned that from us, hahaha.” Hobi laughed.
“I think we’re becoming bad influences,” Namjoon added with a chuckle while dancing to the song.
“Ah, she’s grown. Let her be sexy.” Yoongi shrugged as they watched her jam around.
He’s got that something
I can’t let nobody tell me no
Also, with the fancams of Jennie, people noticed how she would watch proudly whenever she heard each of the girls sing. And there was also a lucky fan cam that made eye contact with Jennie and shot them a smile and wave.
Something about, something about the boy.
Jihyo and Jimin took over the rest of the verse while Hayoon sang ‘About that boy’ under them, while Jen prepared for her part to come up. Those vocal lessons were about to pay off tonight.
Singing soulfully, Jen sang out, “I know you like to play it slow. But I’m running out of tiiiiime. It’s like I lost my self control, ‘cause you are the one. And you know what you’ve done. My poor heart’s come undone.”
Taking a deep breath, she sang, slowly throwing her head back, “Baby please~!”
The high note sounded like an Ailee high note instead of going with what the note was supposed to be. It was unintentional but Ailee was on her mind as she kept singing and she couldn’t help but belt out the note. She kept it there for ten seconds as loud cheers and applause were heard.
While a Bangtan Bomb was filming Bangtan’s reaction to Jennie performing, Jimin and Hobi fell dramatically to the floor and then continued to watch in amazement while holding onto each other.
Taehyung stood there startled with his eyes widening when he heard the high vocal range. “Wow~!”
Yoongi raised his eyebrows and did a double take before smiling proudly.
“Waaaaaaaa.” Hobi looked on.
Namjoon nodded impressively as he heard the soulful high note. Ailee was the first person he thought of that made Jen want to sing the song like that. It made him smile.
Jin placed a hand over his heart, shocked at what he had heard. “Ohhh mah God, where did she learn this!?”
Jungshooked, the Golden Maknae pointed his finger up high as he heard her high note and then started clapping with a proud smile. Although they weren’t dating just yet, he already felt like a proud boyfriend. He had only hoped that Ailee was nearby to at least hear her and see how much Jennie admired her.
The members noticed how the vein on her neck was visible and that she was really using her lungs. Somebody must’ve done something to make her go off because although it wasn’t the high note the original song was supposed to be, everyone loved it and it suited her more.
Fans were freaking out on social media:
'SING JENNIE! YES BISH'
'WHY ARE YOU HIDING THESE LUNGS!?'
'I didn’t know she can hit it that high'
'SING! SING! Ailee are you watching!?'
'GOD-DAMN'
'I see why she was so quiet during the Perfect Man cover. She wanted to shine with the girls, ahahah.'
'Are you serious? Is she serious right now?'
'Yo...'
'I cried.'
'DAMN, I didn’t expect that'
YASSSSS! HIT THAT NOTE! Show them!'
'I prefer her singing that Ailee type of high note instead of the original note anyway! I loved this!'
'I wouldn’t call it an Ailee high note, this is a JW high note as she made the verse her own.'
'I hope Ailee watched this'
'What the fuck!? I didn’t know your voice got that high!'
'My wife!'
'AILEE I really hope you notice her soon!'
Ending the note, Jennie breathed in and exhaled softly. “Woo!” she responded and shared a soft laugh with the girls.
Removing her headphones and getting out of the booth, she took out her bun and unzipped her jacket, strutting with her head up high to meet with the rest of them. Ruffling her hair, she stood next to Jimin and turned to the girls as they all smiled.
“Ladies, let’s show them,” Jihyo announced.
The lights dimmed and the music came back on with a beat change. The girls started off with a fierce dance break as the crowd screamed and cheered loudly, fan chanting their names. The lights came back on and they broke into two groups. Jihyo with Jimin while Jen paired herself with Hayoon. Jihyo and Jimin started dancing first. The duet dances were supposed to be fun, so they were dancing cutely and laughing with one another.
Jen and Hayoon began an adorable game of pattycake and then a fast-paced hand game of Numbers while Jihyo and Jimin cheered on in the background. Jennie and Hayoon were struggling not to laugh as they tried to concentrate. Hayoon ended up winning the game when Jen messed up and they all cheered and high fived.
Tumblr media
Hayoon turned to the front to perform a silly dance and then pointed to Jennie. Looking around, Jen shrugged and began to perform Jungkook’s silly meme dance, shaking her hands, and swaying side to side. The dance certainly got ARMY screaming because it had to do with BTS.
Bangtan backstage began freaking out and started shaking Jungkook.
“She’s so extra.” Namjoon laughed, throwing his head back.
The Golden Maknae let out a boyish laugh. “I love you...” he murmured, shaking his head as he watched the screen. “You are just...incredible...”
After their cute dancing, the girls transitioned into dancing sexily as the crowd continued to get hyped. One by one, each girl had a solo dance by standing in front of the rest to perform while the rest followed her movements from behind.
After the dance break, Jennie ceased the sexy persona and broke out into a cute smile before the four of them finished the song, blowing the audience away. They were greeted with a loud round of applause and cheers as the girls embraced and headed backstage, celebrating their successful performance.
Other fan comments included:
'JenKook shippers get fed once again! She really did Jungkook’s meme dance, I am so happy!'
'SLAY! MY! LIFE!'
'WIG IS GONE! I’M BALD! SHE IS EXTRA AF AND I LOVE IT! GO TF OFF BITCH!'
'BITCH! BITCH! GIRL! How dare you!? Don’t play with me!'
'You’re just gonna do this to us!?'
'WOO!'
'Stop sleeping on my bias!'
'WHAT AND WHO caused her to go tf off because they need to do that again!'
'JenKook shippers, somebody check on Jungkook and see if he’s alive XD'
'I am so done with you, you were nervous for what Jennie?! That note!'
'That was not Jennie. That was JW right there. JW did not come to play!'
A gif reaction post was also posted, “Me when Jennie sang that high note!”
Tumblr media
“Me when Jennie gave me life with her booty shakes!”
Tumblr media
Walking backstage to where BTS was, Jen was immediately bombarded with various questions and comments.
“What was that!?”
“And so you decided to hide this from us because!?”
“Who taught you how to look sexy in front of the camera!?”
“I wanted it to be a surprise.” She laughed as they continued to praise her efforts. “How did I do?”
“Amazing! That was awesome!” she happily heard them yell.
“So, nice meme dance you performed out there. Who taught you that?” Jungkook teased and nudged her.
“I observed from the best.” she smiled and popped a smartie in her mouth.
----------
As soon as 2016 came around, Jennie was almost done packing to leave to go home for a few scheduled events. Bangtan was in a hotel around this time and she had gone to V’s room to ask if she could use his shower. Disappointed but not surprised, Namjoon used all the hot water and she refused to take a cold shower.
Once she was done showering, she went back to her room to continue packing and made sure she had everything.
Meanwhile, Jimin and Jungkook were filming a Bangtan Bomb in V’s room. The two stood in front of the mirror with Jimin holding the camera while Jungkook ruffled his hair.
“Hello everyone, the Maknae line has gathered and we plan to film something really fun today,” Jimin announced.
“Hair.” Jungkook grinned and started to mess up his hair
“There was someone who suggested their opinion of how we could play together and have fun. He’s a very important person in this plan.” he shifted the camera over to the two beds.
“But he’s sleeping.” he set the camera down on the bed that was next to the one that Tae was sleeping on. “What do I have to do if he sleeps, everyone?”
All of a sudden Jimin jumped on top of Tae, to try to wake him.
“Are you sleeping?! Are you sleeping?” he started thrashing around to try to wake him up. “Is it okay or is it not okay to sleep?”
He started hitting him with a pillow and burying it on top of his head, smacking the pillow. “Oh hello~” he laughed and got off of him once he felt him awaken.
Moments later, Jungkook and Jimin sat on the bed with Tae who had on a white hoodie as they faced the camera.
“Sitting here like this-what are we doing?” Jimin laughed.
“Hello. It’s been a while since you last saw my bare face, right?” Taehyung asked, looking at the camera, and putting up two peace signs.
Jimin followed suit. “Aye yo, what up?” he spoke in English before going back to Korean. “This is my bare face.”
“It’s ugly right?” Jungkook grinned
“I have a pimple right now.”
“Let’s choose the game we will play after gathering together like this,” Jimin suggested.
“We’ve already chosen, though.” Taehyung pointed out
“I remember it,” Jungkook added
“Originally, you’re supposed to do it like this. You’re supposed to explain it first.” Jimin giggled.
“Oh, then let me think about it a little.”
“Let’s do it again. Ready, cue.” he snapped his fingers with Tae. “Hey guys, guys.”
“What should we do today?” Tae asked.
“I say we should decide on what game to do today. The game we’ll do today...what do you think, Tae?”
“I kind of think that someone should be “It” the person who became it would cover their eyes with a ribbon and catch the other people, like a game of zombie, I think.”
“So you’re saying we should play a game of tag with someone’s eyes covered?”
“Yeah.”
“Yeah, you’re quite smart.” he high fived him.
“Because all the hyungs are sleeping, right now. So the Maknaes-“
“Should play quietly,” Jimin remarked. “What do you think?” He turned to Jungkook
“That’s good,” he replied.
“Hm...we’re missing a Maknae!” Jimin exclaimed. “Where oh where is our Jennie? Have you seen her? We need our Bangtan girl! How we miss her so!”
“She’s about to leave, remember?” Taehyung brought up. “She was just here to use the shower because Hyung used all the hot water.”
“Wait I thought she was leaving tomorrow night. She's leaving tonight?!” Jungkook exclaimed, freaking out.
“Yeah.”
Jungkook groaned and fell back on the bed while Jimin stopped filming and turned off the camera. He needed to see her before she left.
While Jungkook was contemplating, Jimin and Taehyung glanced at each other knowingly.
“She’s about to leave, Jungkookie,” Jimin spoke.
“I know...” he murmured.
Jimin let out a soft laugh, “You know, at first, we were all hyped and trying everything to get you two together. We thought of various ways for you to confess to her. But confessions aren’t perfect and like the movies. You should just go to her, right now. Before she leaves,"
Jungkook glanced at him and exhaled as his heart rate quickened.
“We know that there are many reasons why it’s hard to confess our feelings for someone. Especially if you’ve been friends for so long. We fear getting rejected.” Taehyung added. “Like we found the person who we really like but we have that fear of the possibility of them not returning our feelings. We get that. And then we fear that we could lose the friendship and things get awkward and you end up not talking like you used to. But at the end of the day, you never know unless you take that risk.”
“She may need some time to think and process after you tell her your feelings but don’t lose hope. Just tell her how you feel. Tell her everything. You have so much inside of you that you need to let out.” Jimin cheered on.
“You are Jeon Jungkook! The Golden Maknae! Do you realize how amazing you two will be together? How adorable you two will be? Think about how you guys were in Running Man!”
“You told Bam Bam to let her decide but I honestly think that no matter what, she’ll choose you because we see something that we hope that you two will see when you tell her your feelings. Now get out of here, no more stalling.” Jimin kicked him off the bed while Taehyung laughed.
“We’ll play hide and seek and film it after you come back.”
Jungkook got up and nodded. “Okay.”
He went to change into a pair of jeans, and a white shirt and placed a beanie on his head.
“She left her lotion in the bathroom. Bring this to her.” Taehyung handed him the bottle.
“Oh, and expect to get carried away in there.” Jimin began giggling, wiggling his eyebrows.
“Ah, I don't think that will happen," Jungkook replied.
“I dunno...you say that now but emotions will run high and sometimes you get so passionate that you get carried away.”
“I’m sure things will be fine. I just...hope she takes my words well.”
“Just be honest with her. She should know how you feel,”
Once the Golden Maknae left the room, the 95 Liners began jumping around in excitement before hugging.
“He’s finally going to do it!” Jimin cheered.
“So, how carried away do you think those two will be?”
“They’re teenagers, it’ll probably be intense. Jungkook is always full of surprises. I just hope he tells us everything when he returns,"
"Yeah. For now, let's just hope for the best,"
------
Jungkook’s heart raced as he inched closer to her room down the hall. He felt like this was about to be the most selfish thing he was ever going to do. And she was nearly minutes from leaving to go back to America for a short while.
‘Please...just let me not mess this up. Let this go well.’ he thought to himself.
With each step Jungkook took, the more his heart raced. He was really going to do it this time. Tell his best friend his feelings that he had been holding in for a long time. But how will it go when he tells her his feelings and she leaves for her flight right after?
Part of him wanted to chicken out and go back to his room, but he needed to say this, now. This was long overdue and he needed to let it out this time.
Deep in his thoughts, Jungkook soon realized that he was in front of her door. He knew she was alone so he wouldn’t have to worry about anyone interrupting them.
Swallowing hard, he aimed to knock but hesitated. The nerves were getting to him already.
But he had to push through.
He can do this.

i cannot believe you didn't liveblog it, tell us more
dude I love you I am hugging you. Let me do a little breakdown of my thoughts on this very good film
Incidentally, if you’re wondering, in the Tom Cruise Ranking^tm I would put this one just under EoT. It’s tough cause it’s a more fun watch than EoT but EoT left me with more to think about and had less flaws overall imo
Also arc since you still haven’t answered the discord server question….hmmm. idk if this would be a draw for you. but! to my tastes tom cruise is at his sexiest in this movie. He’s just really charismatic and endearing and hot in this role what can I say. Roy Miller is such a joy to watch on screen because he’s deeply campy and the movie doesn’t take him seriously, but TC brings this depth and flair to him that makes him feel like a guy, not just a parody of one. And when the movie starts bringing in depth to him as a character it never feels forced because TC’s performance has made him feel real from the beginning. Usually when I see characters that are this balls-to-the-wall charming and bizarre, they don’t work once the movie brings them down to earth. But it really works here
I also really loved another character (i want to avoid giving too many spoilers) who Roy is protecting, his dynamic with Roy was a great grounding element cause his acting style was so different (fantastic actor) and worked both as another eccentric personality and also a dose of realness. His friendship with Roy was the soul of the movie tbh and I would do anything for either of them
Knight and Day is also really fun to watch as an MI fan because Roy is so clearly Ethan Hunt inspired. He’s like Ethan if you take away all the visible trauma and add a totally different kind of visible trauma that makes him funny as hell instead of soft and tired. Both of them are autistic, both of them are aggressively competent and armed and dangerous but find time to be Really Nice to people, both have a habit of picking up strays. I’m talking a lot about Roy here cause I’m kinda in love with him but Cameron Diaz is fantastic in this movie too as June, she has a difficult job of being “incompetent who becomes competent over time” and she sticks the landing in a way that feels fun and doesn’t make you think too hard about how she knows how to fire a gun now. I really liked her dynamic with Roy, they had great chemistry and seemed like they genuinely enjoyed each other in a simple nice way. And there were a few emotional beats between them that hit for me ngl. TC is so gorgeous in this movie that at certain points I was marveling at her ability to not kiss him already.
The only issue I had was this one joke I really didn’t like and they tried to bring it back at the end to gender reverse it which I guess they thought would make it better but IMO it didn’t. The rest of the movie was good enough for me to overlook the joke but I was irritated by the joke it’s actually the reason I would rank EoT ahead😭 (if you’re cool with spoilers, also some no-fun kinda dubcon stuff ahead: there’s a thing where it’s implied Roy changed June’s clothes while she was unconscious, and she gets pissed at him and tries to punch him but it’s played for laughs. Later she does it back to him and it’s near the end of the movie which makes me think someone involved with this movie thought that joke was really funny. Anyway that’s The Flaw of the movie)
Anyway these are my thoughts on the movie such as they are. I would do anything and I mean anything for Roy Miller especially Roy Miller in a tux. If you do end up seeing the movie I would like to request that you please let me know what you think of it

3 choices. Arc V (Fandom) for 2 and 10. Yuri (Character) for 5, 6 and 7. Yuya (character)for 2 and 15. If you take on all 7 of these questions I will tie you upside down and play whale noises until you chill. Take care!
Put that rope away, yes, thank you- aaaand here we go!
2) my three favorite characters and why I love them so much:
I should preface this by thanking you for my most recent microcrisis, AKA the abrupt realization that somehow, somewhere along the line... the Theatre Kid Agenda™ has discreetly overtaken my top 3 list.
Speaking of the list:
1- You thought this would be Yuuya, but as it turns out... it's Yuuya! lol.
I'd go ahead and wax the usual poetry about the layers and symbols and all that jazz, but you've already seen me gush about that several times over, so I'll just focus on the babyboy factor for once instead. Yuuya may not have wet kitten energy even at his angstiest, but he sure is a sunshine bean of debatable genuity, and that's just as adoptable!
Looking at him alone is enough to make me want to offer comfort ok. I'm stuffing him in a blanket burrito and shipping him off to my place for a long, long break and some overdue therapy. We can cope with life together, cry a little, cry a lot, bake sweets to recuperate, melt into happy little puddles after a good treat, and then nerd out about theatrics and play a few duels to test silly strategies! This kid is my Son and he deserves all the best things in the world, so for every bit of pain he goes through I'm giving him a truckload of comfort.
______
2- You may have noticed this in ARC-V Month, you may have picked up on it through my sporadic, scattered mentions of the guy, but if not, then here's a fun fact: I have more than one ARC-V blorbo.
Introducing the central piece of a great many of my conflicted thoughts, confused feelings, paradoxical opinions, abrupt perception shifts, and eventual (semi-)begrudging affection that had me questioning my taste in pixels for like a whole year:
...Zarc.
I've known this fucker for 5 years, hated him for a solid 3, and then woke up one winter day in 2023 and realized that oh shit, he managed to land himself a spot in blorbo tier. Is this what people mean when they say a character grew on them? Were my feelings playing the most long-winded joke on my mind for 4 years? Trust me, I don't know. What I do know is that maining his deck was definitely an endearing factor, and so was the 3rd ARC-V watch (this is where I started uncovering most of the easter eggs I know about the show, so perhaps the build-up made me a touch biased over time, but I genuinely found the 136-139 marathon more entertaining than annoying for once. We speak not of 140).
TL;DR: I think the lettuce clown is neat. Past me would have a stroke if I told her I'm a Zarc apologist now tho.
______
3- Super Duper Ultra Hyper Extra Mega- ok I'll stop now.
Sawatari is actually the one surprise in this list to me because, huh, I didn't realize how much I liked him over other nearly as cool characters until I put them side by side and pondered who brings me more joy when on-screen. I thought 3rd place would be someone like Yuugo, maybe Serena, but it seems I've taken a spontaneous shine to the banana peel?
(Help how does this keep happening why am I weak to clowns lmao)
See, Shingo's character may be on the simpler side by virtue of being the... designated comic relief, but that simplicity is part of his charm! The mix of charismatic and pathetic aura is a also rare thing, you know- It's not easy to be so cool and cringe at the same time and make it feel natural. That takes skill.
And speaking of skill, Shingo has my respect for always putting up a good fight, even in the games he loses to all sorts of jobber bullshit. He's a genuinely good duelist and a great entertainer, and I love that for him!
______
10) how many fics I've read that are set in it (approximately and making exaggerated guesstimates):
Guesstimate: Around a thousand. I've been around the fandom long enough to read all sorts of fics on ff.net and Ao3 (among other sites), and it sure feels like I've seen a lot, looking back.
Actual number: Approximately 600, rounding down. On Ao3 alone. Huh, I was expecting the number to be like, 200, so this is not too far off, actually! Maybe the reason the fic count feels higher than it is because the memorable reads tend to be REALLY long multichapters. Why are these so common in the ARC-V tag, by the way? Is it the allure of crossovers? The canon divergence AUs?
(The answer is both, and a few other factors as well. Good for us, I say! Longfics are a serious test of commitment, and I'm glad to see and follow so many talented and dedicated authors!)

Thoughts and Notes on Netflix's 2024 Live Action Avatar the Last Airbender (spoilers!)
Good:
The Casting overall I think is good, I have some problems with characterization but overall everybody looks the part -azula.
The Effects good all the way through actually
Some of the Added Scenes, such where Zuko gets his platoon from
The Score, it's the same score
Bad:
Incredibly Show and Tell, like illude to something, foreshadow something, don't just show me it and explain it right away, not every plot thread has to be on screen.
Pacing, condensing 20 24 minute episodes into 8 one hour long episodes really hurts character moments and overall story progression.
The War!!! 70% of the dialogue is about THE WAR. That's not really what the original story is about, so much focus is about the war and you lose so much of the necessary innocence of the characters
The Live Action why do we doing this.
Nobody seems like friends when the camera is on, the chemistry isn't working sadly, I think it has to do with Dialogue and Pacing of Dialogue, they need to actually talk to each other rather taking turns performing one liners and monologues. There's too much space in between lines.
Every character is playing their trauma as if it's their first card in the deck, and pouring it out to everyone immediately, it's lazy, and unemotional when it should be.
I feel like I just watched 8 episodes of this show and followed this group but I don't know any of them, we're not given time to spend with them.
Character Notes
Avatar (the war) Aang, this isn't a child, he is played by a child but sadly he isn't allowed to be one. He's too weighed down by his trauma and responsibilities that he isn't given the space to have fun, and he does have a nice smile and he does look like Aang but they're playing him as a fucking rock. A Rock who can fly???
Also all the past Avatars give him such shitty advice which he always disagrees with and then when he leaves the spirit world he's like "they're absolutely right!" stand up for your own beliefs baby!
He gets so boiled down to being a hero and having to save everybody that he loses his own essence and appeal.
Katara (the prodigy) It just doesn't feel like the same character, she doesn't feel motherly, she doesn't feel angry, she isn't shown to be hard working, idk she's just there, so much of her original struggle was learning but through some nice words from Aang and Jet she's already a master before she gets to the North Pole.
Sokka (😐 this is the face he's making) I think he just needs to be more expressive and charismatic, I want to like him but he's just too stiff. Get that man high before filming or something idk. Should've been more sexist. it's a plot point.
Appa and Momo aren't characters, they're just there but not even there.
Zuko!! he's cute! I think he might be my favourite casting. He's frustrated and whiney and annoying in all the right ways. He's by far the most rounded character so far and that's helped by more screentime from not only him but Ozai and Azula. But! that's at the cost of their own mystique and characterisation.
He's also not funny enough, like original Zuko's dialogue is 90% "My Honour!!!!" and new Zuko at least to my knowledge doesn't say it one time. Like they're both hyper-fixated on the same task but one is just naturally funnier. idk maybe that's an easier thing to pull off in animation.
And like most people I think adding the platoon he thinks shouldn't be sacrificed as his crew is a good decision, I just wish he made it himself, rather than Ozai gifting/pawning them off to him. would've made it just all that better in my opinion.
Iroh! loved you at first! great casting, but you're allergic to smiling, I get it this first season we're really playing into the RIP Lu Ten but like Zuko is right here and you need to spend time spending time with this kid, show him that war ain't all that. there's joy and love in this world man, and so many amazing wonders. be happy just to live in a world like that. be happy man please. you're too old to not know how to grieve.
I think Azula's casting has yet to prove itself. The young girl playing her just seems like a really nice person, who doesn't at all look crazy enough.
They're also fucking her character, where is her self confidence? where is her unwavering faith in herself? Why is Ozai doubting her?? She's the mother fucking queen? why isn't she acting like it??? She just isn't giving crazy bitch.
Ozai, fine, but why are we seeing ur face??? sit in the chair!!!!
I think overall i want to give this show the benefit of the doubt, you're not doing a terrible job. Just give us more character moments and relaxation, it's not all about the war. it's about kids and growing and friendship and shit. also like write faster dialogue you can get more lines in like always. Especially for Sokka! he's the filler to any dead air. In 50 minute episodes there shouldn't be this much silence.
I'll keep watching, for season 2 I just hope that even as the show gets more serious, they can still create the beautiful moments of quiet and calm and fun. The show needs more fun, and the kids should have more too.

Some time ago, I wrote a post about All For One being lame. Since then, I've spent some time reexamining my opinion of him.
At that time, I argued he was inferior to most of the other villains in BNHA because he's lacking their complexity. However, after thinking it over again, I realized that my problem with All For One isn't necessarily his lack of complexity. I actually don't mind him not having a sympathetic background (so far) or an interesting character arc or a plausible ideology. What bothers me about him is that – to me – he's lacking charisma and memorability. He doesn't really have anything that makes him stand out to me.
In my previous post, I made it sound like I only enjoy villains with complex backgrounds and motivations, but that's not true, actually. Recently, I've been watching Yugioh Zexal for the first time in my life (because why not) and its most prominent villain in the second half, Vector, somehow managed to become one of my favorite characters of all time – even though he is (seemingly) evil just for shits and giggles. He's evil because he can – kinda like All For One. Unlike All For One, however, Vector steals every single scene he's in. He manipulates, betrays, kills, and trolls people left and right for the pettiest of reasons, but he's just so gosh darn entertaining, over the top, and quirky about it that it's always a joy to watch him on screen. Vector is an absolute treat of a villain.
Coming back to All For One, it's not like I want him to act as cartoonishly over the top as Vector does.
All For One acting like this
Tumblr media
or this
Tumblr media
wouldn't exactly fit the tone of BNHA.
However, my issue with All For One is that he's supposed to be this incredibly charismatic criminal mastermind, but so far his charisma seems to be more of an informed attribute rather than anything else. He admittedly had some great scenes during the Hideout Raid arc, but that was more than 250 chapters ago. Additionally, in my opinion, nothing he's shown so far (even in Kamino) is on par with Dabi's dance or Tomura's speech about the dichotomy between heroes and villains. And I think that is what ultimately rubs me the wrong way about him.
That All For One is completely overshadowed by Tomura and Dabi in terms of complexity is a given. But that he can't even keep up with them when it comes to charisma and entertainment factor is kinda disappointing.
Of course, whether a character is seen as charismatic or not depends on the viewer. Charisma, to me, is a subjective thing. Yet, it's an open secret that many people would have preferred Tomura as the final villain over All For One. (For the record, I'm not one of them). I know, most of them argue that it's due to Tomura's growth as a villain feeling pointless with All For One as the real main antagonist. (Never mind the fact that Tomura has actually never really been able to grow into his own, but that's a whole other can of worms.) However, maybe the reception of him as the final villain would be better if he felt less like some tryhard trying to emulate every single generic villain trope the world has ever seen.
On the other hand, maybe that's the point. He may steal all the quirks in the world, manipulate every human being he comes across, become the most powerful entity in the universe, and yet he'll still be unable to forge his own identity as a villain aside from some comic book demon lord and develop emotions strong enough to allow him to steal One For All. So, on his own, without Tomura, he's quite pathetic. He's nothing, really. But, maybe that's what he was intended to be.
(Still wish he was more entertaining, though.)

Superman & Lois S2 Review
Let's check back in to see how the only current Superman media project has performed.
Tumblr media
Right so straight off the bat: this was a step down from S1. Not the total collapse I've seen others view it as, but nowhere near as good.
Pros
Hoechlin, Tulloch, and Parks are still just as enjoyable as they were in S1, despite the material not giving them as much to work with. Hoechlin still shines when he's playing dorky Clark Kent such as when he celebrates Jordan's first flight, and when he's playing Superman like when he reprimands Sam and Irons for wanting to just leave Bizarro World to Ally's mercy. Getting to see Hoechlin play Bizarro was entertaining, he sold the hell out of Bizarro's descent into drug addiction and the disintegration of the Bizarro Kents hit hard.
Tal-Rho's actor continued to be a joy to watch and has fantastic chemistry with everyone else. Props to him on making a character concept that I would normally hate (hey Superman has a secret brother and we're playing it completely straight!), and making me enjoy him despite that. Sending him to Bizarro World was what I expected them to do, now he can be the "Superman" of that Earth.
Anderson was the better antagonist/villain of the season
Jon's actor finally got more to do, and he wrung the maximum pathos from every line he got, really forcing Clark to acknowledge how he's been favoring Jordan over Jon because Jordan got powers. Outside of the core trio listed above he is one of the best actors on the show. From a lesser actor Bizarro Jon's fall would come across as him being entitled and whiney, but instead it's hard not to sympathize with him given how Clark neglected him. Hopefully him getting access to Kryptonian tech means he'll be more active next season since the writers can't seem to give the nonpowered cast members anything to do
Loved the Irons Family and how they dealt with adapting to a new world. Natalie's actress was really entertaining when she got to do more than just whine at her dad. Happy as hell to see her suit up alongside her father, and her burgeoning relationship with her half-brothers was cute.
The finale was fun, and yeah I enjoyed the fanservice with sun dipped Superman punching the Earths so hard they separate. Looking forward to Clark getting a new Fortress that will hopefully be more in line with my own preferences for what the Fortress should be. Less realistic and more cool basically.
Cons
What the fuck was the idea behind the Jordan/Sarah plotline this season? Are we meant to view Jordan's hurt over Sarah cheating on him as a character flaw on his part? Because I don't, it just makes me dislike Sarah. Sarah discovering her sexuality was handled about as terribly as it could have been, her pushing Jordan to be friends with the girl she cheated on him with made me stare in utter bewilderment. How the hell did the writers not foresee that the audience would not be on Sarah's side over stuff like that? Pure cringeworthy CW drama, especially since Jordan's inability to get over Sarah just made him look annoying and pathetic. Showrunner says they've broken up and I hope they stay apart, I'm so done with that relationship
Ally Allston is so... paper-thin. Her actress does a believable job of selling herself as a charismatic cult leader, but why was so little screen time afforded to fleshing Ally out? How come we didn't get more of her backstory, how she learned about the pendant, or about the other world, and all the other bits of background info we got on her? Why not have Lois and Chrissy investigate Ally's background instead of having Lois play support for Lana and get yelled at by Lucy?
Natalie reprimanding her father for wanting to move on and stop obsessing over their Lois seemed to be set up for her to come around to his point of view. Instead they went in the opposite direction and basically had Irons say he was never going to move on and would just wallow in sadness with Nat because that was the right thing to do? What? Such an odd resolution to that conflict, one that didn't resonate with me.
I don't care that much about the Cushings. They're like Jon's girlfriend, it's cool when they show up, but I'm not here for them and I dislike them getting the spotlight over Lois and Jon. Especially when the most likeable member is Sophie!
Speaking of Jon, do they seriously not get that we LIKE Jon? That Clark clearly preferring his powered son over his nonpowered son makes him look bad? That Jon keeps trying to let Clark know how he feels and Clark keeps brushing him off? I thought Clark losing his powers would finally be what lets the two of them connect, as Clark finally understands how useless Jon felt, but no that didn't happen. Big misstep there.
Jesus the hiatuses are killers!
Multiple plot lines go nowhere. Remember Irons having memory problems? This show keeps trying to juggle way too many storylines and it simply can’t handle them all. Bizarro Lois showing up in the finale only to just stand around awkwardly and have zero meaningful interactions with anyone else is probably THE perfect example of the writers flat out not knowing how to deliver payoff to stuff they set up before. The Bizarro Kents just vanish in the end without anyone bringing them up at all, we don’t know what happened to Jon-El for example, did he blip back to Bizarro World? Can’t say. They need to cut back on the number of plot lines moving forward.
Setting the show in Smallville is starting to look like a bad call. There just simply doesn't seem to be enough story for everyone, and they got rid of the one element that could've helped provide an organic source of drama for everyone: Smallville's decline. After S1 apparently the Edge Corp payouts were enough to completely alleviate that problem and instead Lana is running for mayor mostly as a vendetta for how the mayor scapegoated the Cushings. My hope for the usage of Smallville was that while Clark would be able to bring his family together and train his successor(s), he wouldn't be able to save Smallville. The town's slow inexorable decline could not be reversed even by Superman, we'd get a bittersweet ending of Clark selling the farm at the end of the series, and moving back to Metropolis with Lois while the boys went off to college. Instead they resolved that at the end of S1 with the EdgeCorp payouts, leaving them scrambling to give the nonpowered cast members a hook ever since.
Overall I think I rate S2 as a 6/10, a big step down from S1 like I said. Still there's enough here that I like that I will be back for S3. But it's time to face facts: this show may be slightly above the quality of other CW shows, but it's still a CW show. There's still cheap drama and baffling creative decisions dragging it down, and that's not likely going to change. You either are willing to sit through the boring drama for the good Superman moments, or you're not, and I think S2 will be a stepping off point for many which is fine. I think this show has 4-5 seasons in it max, so I'm willing to keep watching for what I like since I can't see it lasting beyond that. S3 might even be the last season given Zaslav is cancelling shows left and right, wants to sell off the CW, and is determined to cut costs.
One big revelation in the finale was that the show has been established to exist on a different Earth from the "Earth-Prime" of the other shows, guess that gives them the freedom to cast whoever they want going forward. Intergang is also set up to be the main S3 bad guys, which could be good, they're not powered by X-K and Lois could do some investigative journalism to root out their operations. Intergang also has a history being a front for a "big" villain, Darkseid originally and usually in adaptions, but no way are they using Darkseid here so I'll hope either Brainiac or Lex are behind them. Let's hope S3 is a step up from S2.

If you could see 1 member of the mob back on screen, who would it be?
Mod Sheep 🐑: Not to be obvious, but I would pick Tong Yen-Tsan. I have always admired both his movement and his acting ability, and I have been trying to hunt down every single one of his films for the past few years. I would love to see him come back to the screen and bring his singular energy to modern films.
Mod Tiger 🐯: Unfortunately, the one I would most want to see again is the one that will never perform again--which is, of course, Chiang Sheng. He was my favorite of the venoms to watch, and I’ll always mourn his loss and the years we could have had with him. That being said, the next one I would want to see most would probably be Sun Chien, specifically if he had a fighting role. Since I practice taekwondo like he does, I would love to see how his skills have developed over the years, or if he still practices the art. My own teacher is about the same age as Sun Chien, and my teacher is far and away the most powerful person in a room at any given time, so my assumption is that Sun Chien would be capable of maintaining his martial arts strength in his old age as well.
Mod Fox 🦊: If I had to pick one member of the Venom Mob that I would like to see again, it would certainly be Wei Pai! I have recently been watching movies where he is on his own and the ones with the Venoms. It has made me miss seeing him on screen. He had a different acting style from some of the other members, but it was really charming and he was so charismatic on screen. I feel like it would be a joy to see him again. Not only to see his face, but because I genuinely loved his characters and I feel like he could really bring something vibrant to newer audiences. There is no doubt in my mind that he is likely as talented as he used to be. I have always adored and admired him ever since I first saw him. He has a special place in my heart.

31 Days of Horror - Day 27 - The Wicker Man
27/10/23
Roughly a week ago, I stumbled across a physical copy of The Wickerman - its iconic crisp poster is bared across the front, and inside are packed three DVDs. Despite finding a few others I wanted while out with my friend - notably Candyman: Day of the Dead - I only picked this one up, and ever since I’ve been waiting for the right day to watch it! I had heard that thematically, it was similar to Midsommar, which has become one of my favourite films, in part because of the way I watched it! Because of this, I saved watching The Wickerman for a daytime I was free, ideally it would be warm, but then again, it’s autumn, so finding a day like this was improbable. Yet, as I sat down to watch the film, sun peered through my window, gleaming off the screen. Yet, the poster misled me, the film I watched was not bright and overexposed, but washed out and mostly gloomy. To match, halfway through the film, rain began pouring against my window.
The Wickerman follows Sergeant Neil Howie, a policeman, as he travels to an island village in search of a missing girl. I love a lot about this film: its peculiar cast of characters, how scary it is scary, it’s filled to the brim with fun themes and packed with gorgeous cinematography - so much of this was a joy to watch.
I guess I’ll start with my biggest negative before divulging into the good of this film, that being our protagonist. Despite him being played perfectly by Edward Woodward, I couldn’t help but find him grating at times. While his disregard for the pagan religion that those who live on the island follow is deeply intentional, at times he grew too much for me. It was rare, and in retrospect, I do not mind this so much, but it is the biggest factor holding me back from loving it! It becomes so difficult to root for a character like him - I find myself having the same trouble with Deep Red, another film I adore, but the protagonist puts me in a shaky position about jumping to watch it again! However, this film has such a fun cast of characters, that it is rare that Neil can turn me off what is happening entirely! Really, this feels so minor as I write this, but while watching it was a bigger problem, and once again, I think that comes down to this film's perfect ending.
While I’m talking about characters, I want to say that I loved every single other one. Each is played to be so interesting and unique, no two characters feel the same, and they all feel somewhat off, of course, by the end we know why, but watching the film unfold with the mystery of the missing person, the unease the characters instil is a perfect compliment to its tone and atmosphere. The three main characters that stick in my mind are Willow, Lord Summerisle and the Librarian, played by Britt Ekland, Christopher Lee and Ingrid Pitt respectively. All of these characters I am still thinking about, their charismatic and offbeat performances add to the eerie and unsettlingness of the film. Willow was my favourite I think, her song is amazing, and to begin with, the purpose of the scene had me deeply confused - her later appearances are amazing too!
While at face value, this isn’t the scariest film, especially to a modern audience, I feel like the atmosphere it builds, and the eventual ending (which is where many find it to be terrifying) are haunting. Maybe it feels less scary as a result of our protagonist, who appears fearless throughout, although his final fear does create a terrifying image. Yet, the horror of being trapped in a new place itself is a terrifying thought, although this only develops further when the intent of those living here is revealed. Of course, the ending is terrifying, as we watch Neil cry out for God, praying as he burns inside the titular Wicker Man, all while we watch the islanders dance and sing for their festival.
Thematically, I enjoy the contrast between Christianity and Paganism, the former is presented as pure and correct, meanwhile Neil shuns the pagans for their beliefs, which in his eyes go against everything he believes in and stands for. Yet, I can never side with him, he is abrash and downright cruel to these people, which provides a catharsis by the end. In a sense, he arrives in someone else's home, tells them he hates their decor and every person who lives there, and is shocked when they throw him out. Through it all, he is the oppressor, he others this community in his conquest, which is a just cause, but it highlights his desire for power, his need to be more than these people who don’t follow the divine path in life he has. The conflict of culture is shown excellently through this film's use of music, which many consider to make this film a musical. Every song is great, yet, Neil is always against them, he pointedly hates when they sing, and is afraid of the nudity that flourishes on the island. At no point do we see anyone getting hurt, in fact, the whole missing person case is a ruse, and while it makes sense for him to suspect something is off, much of his investigation is steeped in a prejudice he collects from witnessing a life different from his.
The cinematography at the end of this film is especially amazing! Several long shots are used to demonstrate how many people are attending the festival, and we feel a sense that as the audience, we are trapped inside of it, unable to find a place to escape. My favourite of these is at the end, when Neil looks up the hill to see everyone awaiting him.
Finally, I want to mention how much I love the costuming! Especially during the festival - the animal masks and white gowns are beautiful, and I got incredibly excited when they appeared. Everyone feels at home here.
Ever since finishing it, The Wicker Man has been stuck in my mind. This is one I will think about for a while I think, and I’m so very excited to watch the director's cut that came with my DVD. Maybe the scariest part of this film is how easily I have been influenced to visit Scotland - it just looked so pretty! Maybe I’ll wait until May though.

Ok. Let's talk Ahsoka now that we can but be warned there are SPOILERS ahead...
Fortunately I watched The Clone Wars and Rebels before this so I was up to speed. Firstly seeing the live action counterparts of animated characters was a joy to behold and, to me anyway, the casting was on point. I was particularly impressed with Natasha as Sabine. She certainly had the most character growth throughout the series and I liked her clunky but effective fighting style.
I thought Rosario as Ahsoka was excellent at playing an older, wiser and more level headed version of the character and it made sense to portray her this way.
Eman didn't come into it until later but made a huge impact as Ezra. Charismatic, charming and funny, he instilled a sense of fun into the series.
Huyang, voiced by David Tennant, was the unsung hero and he has become my favourite Star Wars droid of all time!
The late Ray Stevenson was simply majestic as Baylon. He exuded charisma and was brilliant in the light saber duels. He also had some of the best dialogue, some of it deep and profound. A standout character for sure who's become instantly iconic. It is so sad that he's no longer with us and didn't live to receive the accolades he so richly deserved.
Ivanka was also very good as his apprentice, Shin Hati and I loved their respectful relationship.
I'm a fan of Winstead so I was already excited that she would be playing Hera, my favourite character from animated Rebels and after a slow start I think she nailed it, showing Hera's no nonsense feisty attitude.
It was also great to see Chopper in live action!
Undoubtedly one of the most anticipated characters to appear was Grand Admiral Thrawn and Lars, who also voiced him in animation, did not disappoint. His steely, calm and calculating nature was perfectly captured.
To me Star Wars is as much about character as anything else and that's what the Original Trilogy did so well. All of those main characters have become iconic for a reason. There was genuine chemistry between them and we got to love and care about them.
In my opinion that was the failing of the sequel trilogy. It tried to recapture that with Rey, Fin and Poe etc but it didn't quite work. The strength of the sequels is the relationship between Kylo Ren and Rey but a lot of that was down to Adam Driver's excellent performance.
Ahsoka gets the characters right. It gradually brings them together. It entices the arrival of Thrawn. It builds tension and along the way gives us some stunning visuals, great light sabre action, zombie Night Troopers and a genuine mystical quality. It also gives us Hayden as Anakin and redeems him and the character. The call back to the young Ahsoka fighting alongside him in The Clone Wars in live action was a definite highlight!
Ahsoka is not good Star Wars. It's Great Star Wars! I grew up with the original trilogy and was in that cinema Queue in 1977. Ahsoka gave me that sense of wonder and I genuinely couldn't wait for each episode to screen. I've even watched every episode twice, something I rarely do.
Ahsoka should be celebrated for helping to keep Star Wars alive but also to move it forward in a different direction without an over reliance on the Skywalker saga.

Yes, Zayn is the perfect example of a person who has raw talent and wants to create but is definitely not a celebrity and does not have the capacity to be in the public eye. Like, most people don't, but he definitely is clearly not cut out for being watched by everyone, especially when his private matters are so controversial, like you said.
Okay, so I had always heard people talk about the Cell Block Tango number but since I was never that into theater I was not so impressed. But when I watched it I was completely mesmerized! Like, the women were so talented and beautiful! And the outfits! It was all so amazing. And I just did not know that Catherine Zeta-Jones was that talented. Like she was always known for being beautiful but wow! I'm officially obsessed.
I know people were really into Daisy Jones & the Six when the book came out but I never read it so I didn't get into the show. I do love music so it's intriguing but I haven't gotten into it yet lol.
I def know how hard it is to keep up with television but I will say: Succession is worth it! It is hilarious and sad and weird and anxiety-inducing but omg it is so well written. My eye literally do not look away from the screen when I am watching. Since it's on its last season right now, it won't be too hard to complete it, but when you do get into it, let me know so we can talk about it!!!!
My cousin's boyfriend just started watching Slow Horses and he said he loves it. His taste in movies is questionable, but he and I do have very similar tastes in shows so I got him into it and he is hooked. Luckily the seasons are short so it's easy to get through them and I personally read the books in between seasons to fill the void lol. But once you start please, please let me know what you think!
I'm halfway through Outer Range and nothing is making sense but I like it! It's weird and that's my jam do I'm hooked. I don't wanna be annoyed by Autumn but she is starting to get on my nerves. I really like Joy, even though she is a typical sheriff character. Maybe it's because I think she is pretty lol. And I am oddly intrigued by Rhett. I like that he is like...kind of self-loathing and brooding. Like there is always a simmering anger beneath the surface. And I usually don't like angry characters but I think that his insecurities sort of balance it out? He clearly sees himself as a loser but I definitely find it so endearing. Like, he is not arrogant and his anger at things feel justified. I also like that he is loyal, even though that's a source of his anger lol. I know it makes no sense but I like him, and I like him with Maria. I guess I just like men who seem pathetic but are trying their best to be good and protect the people around them. Also like Cecilia. Royal is...I don't even know what to make of him lol. And the Tillersons are just obnoxious and weird! And not in the good way lol.
It always is a bummer when someone's got so much talent but because they're not one to be in the public eye or they're not as charismatic or outgoing as other celebs, they kind of get looked over. And this isn't about Zayn specifically but all kinds of artists, really.
Copy that, adding Succession to the list!!
I liked the Daisy Jones book mostly because I think the author is so good at transporting you to the era it's set in (I had the same feeling about her other book The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo). Might suss out the show to see if it's giving those same vibes.
Okay omg, I think it's been too long since I last watched Outer Range and I need to get back into it to refresh my brain. I can't remember where I was at last but I think I was intrigued by whatever Autumn's deal is, also don't know what to make of Royal. I just remember thinking that if I were him I'd be navigating that mystery hole differently 😂 I want to put Rhett under a microscope and study him, lmfao. Lots of sides to him, like you said, that could be unpacked.

Called it! The show is bad and people are noticing. Despite off the charts interest beforehand the premier drew barely more viewers than TFatWS and WandaVision, and it’s now suffered a steep drop.
This article, outrageously, tries to spin this as being the result of the sexuality reveal. Even though that makes NO SENSE because that happened in episode 3 so if viewers were leaving in droves over that we’d expect to see the resultant drop in viewership in episodes 4 and onwards.
I’m sure that’s what Disney will try to spin it as. But the truth is this isn’t about the sexuality reveal. (Actually given that the show reveals Loki’s sexuality after retconning him into a pathetic joke and making him into a punching bag and laughing stock and dehumanizing him and robbing him of all dignity and encouraging audiences to laugh at his pain, bigots will probably be thrilled). No. It has nothing to do with the TV character being bi and everything to do with the tv character not being Loki.
Loki is fun to watch. He’s complicated and badass and charismatic and interesting and funny and sympathetic and heartbreaking and threatening all at once. He’s a joy to watch on screen. Larry, as I call the TV show character, is none of these things. He’s not fun to watch. And neither is the show. None of the characters are entertaining. The writing is bad. The story is bad. The dialogue is bad. The costumes are bad. And the attempts at comedy are beyond bad. The show is bad. It’s just bad. It’s not fun. Even if you don’t care about Loki and have never seen anything with him in it, it’s still a bad show when viewed entirely on its own merits.
Kevin Feige mentioned this being an attempt at a thriller type show but...where? There’s no tension. It’s dull and poorly paced and any potentially dramatic moments are immediately undercut by the painfully bad slapstick comedy. It’s not thrilling. It’s not funny. It’s not entertaining.
And audiences have noticed.
And it’s really tragic because there was off the charts interest for a reason! Loki is a great character. People like him and they wanted to see a show about him. Too bad Disney didn’t give us one. People would have watched it. A lot of people!

blah blah blah, I ramble about stuff. today, this:
Knox's film career and how he was underutilised for a bunch of it
A problem I have with some of the parts he's been put in is that they feel like casting directors not understanding him as a screen presence. A lot of them seem to want to cast him as straightforward sleazebags or douches who are effective characters/funny because they are awful, sleazy, obnoxious assholes with no redeeming qualities. And I understand this impulse from people who know about Jackass but do not watch it. They think that's what's going on there, that it's a bunch of dudes being irredeemable assholes and that's the appeal. They think they're casting him to his persona and taking a shortcut to the effect they want.
But it's a mistake. The reason no one has been able to replicate the huge and enduring success of Jackass despite loads of other pranksters and daredevils being available is that there's more to it than that; it has a deep sense of joy and camaraderie and incongruous innocence which people who dismiss it out of hand don't get. It's special because of the people and the spirit they bring to it, not least the man himself, who sets a unique, cohesive tone nothing else has. It should probably go without saying that Knoxville is also a massively charismatic person, because the entire franchise would almost certainly never have existed if he weren't. People putting him in movies know this and that's often why they want to cast him. The thing is, he doesn't have 'magnetic asshole' charisma, he has 'effortlessly endearing' charisma. His most profound quality is a disarming air of affability which gives him this irrepressible boyish charm. People want to like him.
He comes off as a loveable mischievous scamp and not a menace to society, even when doing things that are pretty borderline menacing to society, and that's because of his deportment and like... aura. The innate vibe he has is just super positive and personable, his attractiveness is weirdly wholesome. So, what I think they've missed is that any time you cast him as someone we're not supposed to like, he is actually playing against type. It requires more effort on the film's part, not less.
He can still be a bad guy if that's really what they want, he does great shady, but he doesn't work in those flat heel roles that are just meant to be instantly and thoroughly detestable. He's fantastic as a conman where he can be using his natural allure to manipulate people and he's also good in the sort of 'harmless lackey' villain roles (like Big Trouble or MIB2) because those characters are allowed to be endearing. Dirtbag is fine if it's a lovable dirtbag, though having him play idiot clowns can be kind of waste imo. But idk, it seems it isn't very often that someone in Hollywood realises you need to put him in a role that acknowledges he's handsome and charming rather than insisting the audience instead accept he's repugnant or gross or gormless. Because he's really handsome and charming. It will be the first thing you notice. You want to look for something redeeming or secretly sharp in his comic characters even when it is not intended to be there and film makers should be aware of this.
tl;dr I rewatched failed screwball comedy Life Without Dick for the first time in years and remembered how sick that movie feels because it totally relies on you being so repulsed by his character that your sympathy is with the leads while they get into a bunch of sociopathic romcom shenanigans surrounding his murder. Doomed from the outset. The comedy isn't consistently black enough to cross the threshold while still being deeply fucked up, played with a silly tone. Dick, we're reassured as we reveal the reason she killed him was a misunderstanding, was still just the worst (and thus deserved it?), but he's too humanised for us to laugh at his death. The absurdity is generally grim instead of funny, the leads are not likeable, and the assumption we could cheer for them was very misplaced. That and the poor direction, which makes everyone seem super awkward.
And also Harry Connick Jr's acting is real bad. But Craig Ferguson was amusing. I still quote his 'do you like them lattes?' line. That's funny.
#and also also HCJ in a scene with Knoxville where HCJ is supposed to be the handsome prince to Knoxville's evil ogre#and I'm sorry#I won't say it but I'm very sorry#no.#johnny knoxville#life without dick#so many of these roles are just so... like he got the attention to get here bc he is the most charismatic and was just born with star power#I have literally never seen someone describe meeting him for the first time without mentioning how charismatic he is#but then they cast him in roles that don't acknowledge that at all as shit like 'generic gross asshole'#'generic man child'#'generic someone's idea of what the kind of dudes who would be on jackass would be like'#without realising 'wait this guy is becoming/is a legit ICON bc he has a very specific dichotomous genteel energy ppl love'#(and is no joke extremely funny and talented as well as being marquee leading man hot)#'maybe we should play to that'#and then there's Barry Sonnenfeld who understands he is funny and cute but does not understand that he is sexy#watching an interview with Preston recently where he said he told Knoxville Jackass was a terrible idea and he should do a talk show#because 'he's charming as hell'#which: true#but can you imagine the format of a talkshow where he was in charge?#tune in next time if I ever post my stream of consciousness ramble about Rosy and how I wish I knew what the point of it was#I review movies almost exclusively with long tangents about themes and random commentary on details I noticed I'm not sorry#some of his middling films only work as well as they do bc of his charisma- why r we rooting for DC in Action Point? it gives you no reason#at face value he should be in jail and we should not like him at all#but we do bc it's him and he's just loveable- drunk negligent danger to the community? nah! champion of fun!#that is the kind of part he's a huge asset to- just let us root for him and he can carry a whole movie on his back

Kaminari Denki x Reader
Includes: fluff, angst, hurt w/o comfort, implied cheating, mentions of alcohol
In which you and Kaminari Denki grow too comfortable in your routines, and weary eyes begin to wander.
Or, Kaminari Denki falls out of love.
***
“I want to marry you.”
His voice is firm, clear, confident. “One day, when we’re older.” Your hands are in his, clasped between the grip of his fingers, enveloped in a warm, lasting pressure. “We’ll get a house together, and a dog, and then we’ll get married.” He pulls you closer–and he’s warm, infectiously so, smiling down at you in a silent plea.
You feel his certainty in every possible way.
So you smile.
“Of course, Denki,” you whisper, heart fluttering.
He chuckles, kissing your forehead. You feel the vibrations of his chest against your own, strong and deep and grounding. “Then it’s a promise,” he says.
You want to hold him to his words. But the memory, prevalent as it is, always seems to present itself in faded reddish-browns, like a story scrawled in sepia-tinted fonts. The longer you dwell on it, replay it in your head, the faster it disintegrates and turns to dust.
Before you know it, it slips away between your fingertips. His promise trickles down and out of your reach, until, finally, you can no longer call it your own.
***
You’d always known him to be yours. Everyone had; the inseparable highschool duo, ever-paired together. Your friends never invited one of you without dragging along the other. He’d met you as a first-year, and had immediately pestered the homeroom teacher to let him sit by your side. The poor woman had had no choice but to comply, relenting only after months of the boy’s pleads.
He’d loved you, right from the start. Kaminari Denki showered you in affection, in handwritten notes and personalized gifts. Wide-eyed and charismatic, he’d done everything just right.
It was the half-hidden glances he shot you when he thought no-one was looking, the grin he reserved just for you, the way he’d pull you close to him every day without fail; it was the way he lit up at the sight of you and radiated with excitement at your very mention. Kaminari was earnest, and infectiously so.
How could you resist?
Dating Kaminari turned out to be an adventure. He’d drag you left and right on his antics—dared you to push your own limits as he did his. He’d take you on midnight drives, morning treks, call you over at the crack of dawn for nothing more than a hug.
You were the careful, calculating counterpart to his thrill-seeking habits, to impulse and grandeur.
He loved excitement, experiences, exploration.
You loved him.
A part of you knew, though, that you’d never quite be able to keep up.
***
“What will you do after highschool?”
It was a question you’d begun to hear increasingly frequently. An emotionally-charged inconvenience, the words tasted like uncertainty and distress, the budding woes of a soon-to-end highschool career.
“Go to university,” was always your answer, ever-practical. Every time without fail, you’d grimace at the words.
His own response, though, was easier. Lighter.
“Beats me,” he’d chuckle, eyes crinkling as his lips turned upward in a smile. He’d sling an arm over your shoulder, pulling you close to his chest. “We’ll figure it out together, won’t we?” he’d say, grinning smugly down at you.
Heart beating, you’d roll your eyes and push him away. “Yeah, yeah.”
Together.
Fearfully, you clung to the word.
***
The two of you throw your caps together at graduation. The navy-blue headwear drifts in the gentle spring air before landing gently at your feet, rustling the grass beneath you. Around you, people are crying. You’re tearing up yourself, but Kaminari is quite the opposite, a bundle of pure joy and glee.
“We did it,” he whispers.
You nod.
You cling to his side throughout the festivities, greeting all your friends with your hand interlaced with his own. Kirishima and Sero, eager as ever, have already begun begging to join Kaminari as his groomsmen.
Kaminari takes it all in stride, cackling all the while. “Bakugou’s the ring boy, then.”
“Like hell I am!” he snarls. In an instant, the two boys have begun an impromptu wrestling match.
You laugh; beside you, Ashido and Jirou do the same.
The antics are familiar, easy. They feel like any other day–yet a sense of finality hangs over you all. The air weighs heavy with the bittersweet realization.
“This is really it, huh?” Ashido mutters, sniffling.
Kirishima sighs. “Yeah.” His eyes are round, shining. “God, can you imagine? We’re gonna be adults.”
“We’ll have jobs,” Sero says, brows furrowed. “We’ll live on our own and pay taxes or whatever.”
Ashido sticks her tongue out. “Yuck.” Another chorus of laughter rings out, and most of the group continues on with the conversation.
Jirou, though, remains quiet. Lips pursed, she turns to you, gaze demanding attention.
“You’ll be moving in together, won’t you?” she asks.
You nod.
“Big commitment,” she remarks. “You sure he’s ready for it?”
You know Jirou, trust her, immensely. But she’s always been Kaminari’s friend–a constant in his life, but never quite your own. They’d been friends long before you’d met him, and they’d stayed that way through the years.
You expect that will never change.
You chuckle. “Well, he’s the one pushing for it. You know him–can’t exactly change his mind when it’s made up.”
“Guess not.” She smiles up at you, lips turned sweetly up at the corners. But there’s something more in her eyes; something distant, wistful. In an instant, though, it’s gone–replaced instead by a look you assume is sincerity. “I’m happy for you two,” she tells you.
The smile widens.
Somewhat uneasy, you smile back.
***
Your shared apartment is cluttered from the very start, an explosion of personal trinkets and accumulated belongings. You opt for separate rooms, a decision you’d made with work and study in mind. You liked peace and quiet, and two rooms seemed a better choice–
Though, as both of you quickly learned, that didn’t stop you from sleeping in his arms every night.
Your studies proceed as expected; smooth and easy, you breeze by your courses without any trouble. Kaminari finds himself part-time work nearby, a little cafe a block or two away. Things are comfortable–you fall into a routine, stable and calm.
Calm, though, has never quite fit him.
Kaminari has always sought the thrill.
***
Things grow busier over time. Schoolwork has you keeling over, bending backward at every moment, rushing to get your work done. The two of you, slowly but surely, grow apart; your routine no longer involves nightly cuddles, but weekly ones; your interactions gradually shrink down into practically nothing.
He tries, of course; he’ll pop his head into your room, ask you to come out, to go for a bike ride, to hang out with him and watch a movie–but crunchtime is brutal, and things never quite work out as you’d like.
You wish things could be easier.
But life, as you learn, slows down for no-one.
***
After a long day, you want nothing more than to see your boyfriend. You want his arms, his embrace, his words–attention, plain and simple.
But Kaminari, as of late, has seemed unkeen to deliver.
You think to go and see him, but there’s a sign up on his door. Busy, it reads, letters written in a bold red.
You disregard them, and walk on in.
“I’m going to bed,” you tell him.
He hardly looks at you as you enter, hardly acknowledges your movements; his focus lies elsewhere, drowned in the blue light of the monitor. There’s a smile there, creeping on his lips, a child-like wonder sparkling in his eyes as his avatar jumps and swerves before him, each movement meticulously trained, controller clutched firmly in hand.
You’ve become familiar with the sight.
“Hell yeah,” he cries suddenly, fist clenched with excitement. “You saw that, didn’t you, Kyo?”
You sigh.
“Denki,” you call again, louder this time. The sound reverbs in your chest, pouring out of your throat; pained, like a wallow.
He continues. You stand there, back against the doorway, arms across your chest.
Finally, he stops. The pause menu appears on-screen, and he swivels around, chair spinning delicately on its wheels–
But he’s frowning, eyebrows furrowed as he tugs his headphones down. They hang over his neck and radiate a faint glow on each side. “Yeah?”
“I was saying,” you mumble, “I’m going to–”
“I heard you the first time,” he says blankly.
“It’s late, Denki. Don’t you want to sleep?”
“Not now.” Another dull reply.
You sigh, run a hand through your hair. “I miss you,” you admit.
“Me too–but not now, okay?” His lips turn upward–but the smile he gives you is forced. “I’m not sleepy. Maybe tomorrow.” Then, without another word, he swivels back around, slides his headphones into place, and resumes the game.
You shut the door and tuck yourself into an empty bed, trying to ignore his cheers, his voice–
And the voice, inevitably, at the other end of the line.
***
He goes out more now; bar-hopping, he tells you, with highschool friends. Kirishima and Sero and Bakugou and Ashido, you presume. Privately, you wonder why he never offers to bring you along like he used to.
You’re busy, though. You suppose it doesn’t matter–
Until, one night, he doesn’t come home.
It takes ten frantic tries to reach anyone at all; Ashido and Sero both seem not to notice your calls at all. Even Bakugou, the reliable one of the bunch, doesn’t seem to have his phone on him.
It’s Kirishima that finally picks up, his greeting slurred and dopey. “Whazzup!”
You sigh. “Ei, is Denki with you?”
“Huh?” Almost instantly, his voice has cleared up. “Isn’t he with you?”
“He’s not.”
“He said he was going home–wait, I’ll text the group and ask…” There’s some fumbling on the other end of the line, followed by some rustling. “Shoot, we left the bar ages ago too–”
You pinch the bridge of your nose. “Just.. let me know if anyone gets back to you.”
“Yeah, for sure.” His voice is breathy, uncertain. “He usually gets home fine–I really don’t know, I’m so sorry.”
“It’s okay, Eijirou. Thank you.”
You hang up. Another hour passes–but not knowing what else to do, you shut your eyes and drift off to sleep.
***
You awake to a buzz from your phone. The screen illuminates the ceiling over you; the only remaining source of light.
Denki’s with me, the text reads.
It’s Jirou.
The text fills you with a weird sensation–a foreign taste, somewhere between relief and apprehension. A bitter flavor treads on your tongue.
Thank goodness, you type back. Is he okay?
Plastered, but he’s fine. Should I call him a cab? There’s a pause before her next text. I can take him tonight, if you want. My couch is free.
You ponder the thought. A part of you wants him home, wants him where you can see him. You aren’t even sure why he’d be at Jirou’s in the first place, and the thought fills you with unease. You want to drag him home, question him–
One glance at the clock, though, convinces you otherwise.
Could you watch over him tonight? I’ll come and get him tomorrow.
Another pause. Then, a reply.
Okay :)
You exhale and, tossing the covers over yourself, fall back into restless sleep.
***
You leave to retrieve him the next day. Jirou’s flat is a long journey over, and trek leaves you feeling unsettled. Still, your worry drags you out of bed and across town, coat wrapped firmly around you.
The walk, smack in the middle of winter, is far too cold for your liking.
Jirou meets you by the front door, and welcomes you in before you can even move to knock. “Long time no see,” she says, smiling, pulling you into a hug. She looks better than ever–her face is shining. There’s a happiness in her eyes that is unfamiliar, even to you.
“You look good,” you tell her.
“So do you,” she says–a bluff, certainly. In your disheveled, crestfallen state, you’re sure you look anything but. “He’s still asleep, he’s in the living room… Oh, here.” The girl reaches over to her dining table and hands you a steaming cup of tea. “You must be freezing.”
You smile. “Thanks, Kyouka.”
Just then, an all-too-familiar groan resonates through the room. Kaminari emerges from the couch, bedhead on prominent display, shoulders slouched and slunken. His shirt is crinkled in odd places.
The alcohol, clearly, has gotten to him.
You grimace.
***
You ride the train back home, not willing to brave the cold. Kaminari, still much too hungover to think, seems to appreciate the decision.
The train is crowded when it arrives. The day occurs to you then–Saturday, right at the peak of rush hour. You hustle your boyfriend into the cart and hurriedly rush him into the last remaining seat.
The train chugs to a start, and you clutch onto the handlebars above you. You watch as Kaminari leans his head back, a soft groan escaping his lips.
The sight annoys you.
You lean your torso forward to bring yourself closer to him. “Why were you at Kyouka’s in the first place?” you ask, voice just above a whisper.
Kaminari tilts his head to meet your gaze. His eyes are sunken, tired. “Just wanted to see her,” he mumbles. “Haven’t seen her in ages.”
You sigh.
“You worried me, Denki.”
“I was fine–”
“No,” you snap, cutting him off. “You didn’t even tell me you were going out,” you half-hiss, not wanting to draw attention to yourself. The anger, though, is building, tingling in your chest and fingertips, right on the edge of your tongue. “I sat at home waiting for you to come home, not knowing where you were or who the hell you were with. I had to ask Kirishima where you were–and, apparently, you told him you went home.” You can feel the heat welling in your eyes, threatening to spill. “Is that home to you, Denki? Her couch?”
He doesn’t meet your gaze. “Sorry.”
You exhale and lean back, resting your weight back on your heels. The rest of the ride back is silent.
***
The next few days are tight, tense. There’s an anger you can’t quite quell, a thirst for something you can’t quite quench. You’re torn between wanting an explanation, an apology, a remorseful embrace assuring you things will be different–
But he goes out the next weekend, and the next, and eventually on the weekdays you once spent in each others’ arms. He fails, over and over, to come home, and all you can do now is try your best to ignore the click of the front door at dawn.
Spite. That’s the feeling now. You’re spiteful, vengeful, you want more out of him and less at the same time–but you don’t protest. You keep your lips tightly sealed, and move on with your life. You spend meals apart, nights separate, days distant and alone.
You fall into another routine–a colder, lonelier one. Sometimes, behind his back, you catch glimpses of his belongings; the worn winter jackets, the strewn contents of an overnight bag, the notifications from the girl you have always known–
You wonder if, in her presence, he finds the same thrill he once did in you.
***
A/N: went through a really rough spot. my feelings culminated in this monstrosity–it’s been a while, but i hope the writing was okay :)
also, i love jirou. very, very, very much. i didn’t mean to throw her under the bus here. i like to think the reader’s insecurities got to them, and that the cheating didnt actually happen, but that’s always open to interpretation.

Coming full circle
Here’s a little blurb about the Grammy’s, because some things just simply can’t be overlooked. I’ve also wanted to try and write in second person for a while and I thought this was the perfect occasion. Tell me what you think, I’m interested in knowing what you prefer! Happy reading xx (gif source)
Tumblr media
The anticipation has become unbearable at this point. Sitting on the couch of the hotel suite you’ve checked in the day before, you feel more trapped here than simply waiting for your boyfriend to come back - or should you say Grammy winner boyfriend now? Watching the whole show on a flat screen rather than with your own heart-shaped eyes has been a pain to begin with, but now that there is a tiny gold trophy topping off the night with a pinch of two gifted fingers, it is downright torture.
Your legs keep fidgeting in restless expectation as you know Harry’s return is now eminent. The suspense of the show had you going insane for hours and now that it’s all over and done with, you can’t wait to shower him with love and sweet devotion. All the passion, all the self-imposed high standards, all the hard work, have finally paid off in the eyes of the academy, and though he’s always had the encouragement of his fans, it feels good to be recognized within the industry as well. To get a hat tip from pears and musicians he looks up to. To be able to bring the six pounds momento back to you since an infinitesimal but still real part of it was your doing. Also, he can’t wait to share it all with you.
At last, after the umpteenth sigh whizzing from your mouth, you finally hear it. Footstep coming to a halt behind the door, the sound of someone rummaging through their pockets for a keycard, a few lighthearted curses when said key plays hard to get, and finally several seconds later, the soft click of the lock signaling authorized entrance.
As soon as the door starts moving on its hinges, you leap to your feet to stand a couple meters from the entrance, arms crossed behind your back. And there he is.
The charismatic superstar you’ve just worshipped on TV all night is now standing in front of you in all his charming dimpled glory, orange and yellow plaid Gucci suit still on, swathed in feathery boas. Because, yes, he’s brought back all three of them; green, purple and black fluff all tangling around his upper limbs as he attempts to remove his heeled boots without tripping. If his clumsier than usual demeanor didn’t give away his slightly inebriated state, then the rosy tint coloring his cheeks was a big telltale sign of the few celebratory drinks he’d indulged throughout the night.
Harry stops dead in his tracks once his eyes fall on your frame. A shy grin appears on his flushed face, before your own lips part to mirror his glee. And for a hot minutes, it’s just that. You and him, facing each other across the hallway like in a makeshift Western dual, except you’re bearing no guns to fire at each other. Your only weapons are your beaming smiles and unconditional support.
Then there is no greater feeling than the fireworks exploding in your chest when you finally cave and run to him. He catches you with two sturdy arms as your wrap your legs around his waist and your arms around his shoulders. The deep belly laugh vibrating in his chest against yours is music to your ears and you can’t help but whisper "I am so fuckin’ proud o’ you," in the shell of his, before squeezing him even tighter against you. He buries his joy in your neck in response, knowing if he tried to kiss you right now, it’d be more of a smash of lips and clash of teeth than anything.
Once your elation simmers down just enough to relax your distended smiles though, your lips meet in a passionate embrace, tongues softly licking at the sweetest of each others’ mouth; yours from the strawberries you’ve had for dessert and his from the champagne that had been served all night at the Grammy’s.
As your hands reach up to cup his jaw, his come off your thighs to unwrap one of the boas from his neck and swaddle it around you. You squeal and giggle in delight at the furry material tickling the nape of your neck and Harry’s eyes sparkle in satisfaction, "knew you’d wanna have one, now we match."
Your heart is positively soaring, you just extend your new accessory around his neck so that you’re both protected by the green boa’s higher guardian spirit, and then you lean in for another kiss. For a while the two of you are caught up in your bubble, reveling in this night of magic and well-deserved acclaims, pride seeping through your pore to sneak under his skin much like his love for you had at the beginning of your relationship.
"I love you," the three words leave your lips as you lean your forehead against his and Harry promptly echoes the sentiment while walking you to the king size cloud-looking bed awaiting you both. He gently lowers you down upon the silk sheets, you hair spreading across the pillow cases with a look of sheer bliss etched upon your delicate features. If he weren’t so in awe of you and in awe of tonight, his signature smirk would probably taunt you with the fact that it won’t take much to unravel you tonight.
Instead he just hovers for another languid kiss, all his senses heightened by the evening’s ethereality. The sound of his name falling from the Troubadour’s manager is still reeling in his mind alongside the buzz that has been coursing through his veins ever since he took those bambi steps all the way to the stage to receive the long-awaited award for the fruit of his labour. Now that he’s come home in your arms to share every bit of that success, everything feels magnified.
He swears he’s never love you more than tonight when he’s feeling at the top and you’re here to hold his hand.
It’s a high like no other and one fix is just not cutting it. This requires a myriad of caresses and affections trailed along smooth skin. This was born out of support and loving inspiration that need to be returned to their muse in kisses that match the heat of the passion that instigated all this dream. This needs to be spelt out in love language across your body’s every nerve-endings - twice - and shouted from each one of LA’s skyscraper’s rooftop.
So Harry gets to work, diligently covering every inch of your skin with his appreciation and traipsing his reverence all the way down to the waistband of your panties with your grip in his hair accompanies his descent towards your sensitivity. "Gonna put those Grammy winning lips on me?" the smug look on your face is immediately whipped out by a moan as he noses at your clit.
"Seems only fair," he sucks at your mound through the cotton, "won the damn thing writing about eating your pussy. Reckon I didn’t properly thank you in my acceptance speech." Slowly he drags the flimsy lace down your legs before tasting your arousal with a long fat sweep of his tongue. "M’just comin’ full circle is all." You can feel his amusement against your core as you let out a giggle of your own at his silliness.
Your playful banter is quickly replaced by a symphony of moans and gasps that leave the both of you absolutely spent by the time the night reaches its real peak. After all, your acknowledgment means so much more to him than any award he could possibly receive/ Especially if it comes as sweet as your gratitude always does.
