"Come on, mi amor. It's easy" Your boyfriend of a year and half said softly

"I know it is, I just can't get a hold of it sometimes, Pabs!" You exclaimed a bit frustrated whenever your tongue didn't connected with your mind whenever you had to speak Spanish and yelled when you burned your hand with the heating pan "Não foda! Essa merda é quente. Vou ficar com uma chaga tremenda e bem na palma da mão!" (Fuck! That shit is hot. I'm going to have a tremendous sore right on the palm of my hand!)

"Amor, be careful!" Pablo said inmediately grabbing your burned hand and the other on your waist guiding you towards the sink and bringing your hand under the cold water as you hissed from the temperature change "Lo siento"

"It's fine" You hissed when his fingers carressed your burned palm "Amor"

"Sorry, mi vida" He kissed your cheek as you let out a few tears of both, pain and frustration. He let you quickly to grab the ice pack and came back putting it in your hand "Let's go to the bedroom, amorcito" He kissed your cheek again and dried your tears with his hand, guiding the two of you upstairs.

He took off his shirt and got to the bathroom to grab the medical kit, you sat on his side of the bed and watched him come back to you ready to take care of your burn.

After he was done, he left a kiss on it and left a kiss on your lips as well, before getting you inside the covers, he putted away the things he used and turned the TV on, getting under the covers with you in his arms.

"Amor" He said softly after a while "I love the effort you are doing in learning my language but don't stress too much because of it, okay?" He said against your hair "I love you too much and I don't want you sad or mad about it. You will eventually do it at perfection, I know it. Spanish isn't easy and we just gotta keep trying" You smiled softly. "Like, I barely know three words in Portuguese and still I am trying" You laughed

He was so cute and he was-is, so yours.

But the thing on this is... You already knew Spanish and were trying to perfection it, Pablo though doesn't know that, how did you communicated with someone before him? Yes, with broken Spanish and lots of English.

But it doesn't help the fact that you confuse Spanish words with your native words, since some of them sounded and were the same. It was a bit hard processing it and your mind sometimes shortcircuited because of it.

"I know, mi amor" You said kissing his naked chest "I know, I just-" You sigh "Wanna be able to communicate with you in your native languague. I know how hard is English for you sometimes" He smiles softly

"I can handle that" You giggled "However, Portuguese is really hard and I'm still trying, mi linda"

"I know you do and I'm proud of you for it" You smile "Além disso, você fala muito fofo em português, seu sotaque sevilhano soa muito pesado com isso. Eu amo isso" (Besides, your way too cute talking in Portuguese, your Sevillan accent sounds way too heavy with it. I love it)

"¿Ah? You said Love, right? You said love" He confirmed as you giggle "I hope you said you love me because I love you too" You smile nodding and gave him a kiss on his cheek when his phone dinged and he grabbed it showing you, proudly, his lockscreen.

A picture of the two of you appeared and you smiled hiding your face into his neck "Nos vemos lindos" (We look pretty)

"Of course we do" He buffed as you shook your head rolling your eyes secretly loving his confidence. "It seems like we've got some company in five days"

"Who?"

"Your suegros" He winked and you blushed

"They'll be staying?" You ask smiling as he nods

"Two days" You sigh softly

"Gotta tidy up the guest room tomorrow then"

"I'll help you, amorcito. Don't worry"

"¿Y Pablo?" (And Pablo?) Belén asked as you chatted with her meanwhile el señor Pablo, her husband, showered.

"Ha salido a hacer unas compras de último minuto. Mañana quisiera hacer su platillo familiar, que me has dado la receta pero no había podido ponerla en prueba" (He went out to do some grocery shopping of last minute. I wanna do your family dish tomorrow, you gave me the recipe but I couldn't put it on test) She laughed "Y bueno... Que mejor situación, que ustedes estén aquí" (And well... What better situation than you guys being here) She let out a little aw and you blushed

"Es bastante sencilla, nada de que preocuparse, ¿Eh?" (It's pretty simple, nothing you had to worry about) She smiled "Eres muy buena cocinera, de seguro te queda exquisito, pero si quieres te puedo ayudar" (You're a really good cooker, I'm sure it will be delicious, if you want I can help you out)

"No te molestes, ustedes son los invitados. Tendré que poner a Pablito que me ayude con la ensalada" (Don't worry about it, you are the guests. I will have to make Pablo help me out with the salad) You both laughed

"Que la va a incendiar, estoy segura" (He'll make it fire, I'm sure of it)

"No, que va. Ha mejorado bastante en sus skills de cocina. Esperemos que no me deje en ridículo luego de haberle defendido si se llega a cortar en lo más mínimo" (No, he won't. He has gotten a lot better in his cooking skills. Let's just hope he doesn't leave me ridiculous after defending him, if he gets to cut himself at least a little) Belén laughed as you smiled when you felt someone gasp.

You turn around and see Pablo with the bag of grocery in his hands

"You're speaking Spanish? Perfectly?"

"How long have you been standing there?"

"Long enough to hear your pretty voice speaking my languague fluently!" He exclaimed and almost let the bag fell to the floor if you hadn't grabbed it before. "¡AMOR!" He yelled with a smile on his face "Say it again!"

"¿El qué?" (The what?)

"¡Joder, hostias! ¡Lo estás haciendo!" (Fucking hell! You're doing it!) Belén and you were full on laughing

"Pablo, para" Belén asked (stop)

"I won't, mamá! She's speaking Spanish! That sounded so hot, you don't know how turned on that made me" He told you and you blushed rainbow colors. His mom was sat in front of you.

"¡Hey! Your mom's here!"

"She knows we do those stuffs, right mom?" Belén smiled shaking her head in disbelief "Mi amorcito hermoso, I'm truly happy for you!" He picked you up as you laughed hugging him by his shoulders "But... ¿Desde hace cuánto sabes Español? ¿Y por qué no me habías dicho?" (Since when you speak Spanish? And why you haven't told me that?)

"Surprise?" He smiled shaking his head

"Necesito urgentemente ponerme en clases de Portugués, no me puedo quedar atrás" (I need urgently to take Portuguese classes, I can't be left behind) You and Belén laughed.

"You will not, amor" He smiled and high fived you, intertwining your hands in the end

"Just like I will not let you down tomorrow with the salad, mi experta en español"

Hello! How are you? I’m that anon who asked if you wrote for Richard Madden, that was a long time ago and I’ve thought long and hard about this. I’m finally ready to make a request!

May I please request a Richard Madden x Male Reader, where Richard has low-key a crush on him?

The male reader is a writer (more of a historian), Richard has all his books and has a nerdy heart, he finds the Male reader‘s REALLY hot. He never fails to praise the male reader and his accomplishments whenever he’s asked who his celebrity crush is (which isn’t a surprise for those who know him). His co-stars also tease him a lot about it.

They have never met in parson (not for Richard’s lack of trying. They finally meet on a talk show (rather a chat show). The male reader is there to discuss his newest book and his new documentary series. All trough out, Richard notices how the male reader is rather shy and introverted, trying to engage with him and asking him question (that he totally did not he from nerding over the male reader‘s books..), and being really attentive (complementing the male readers achievements). He even flirts quite a lot with him (which is real by he way, and the audience loves it). Maybe he even asks the male reader for a small little kiss (which he hopes to receive from the shy writer).

I just want something fluffy and flirty. With Richard maybe asking the male reader out after?

Richard Madden is smiling at the cameras on the Oscar red carpet with his co-stars next to him.

Soon enough fans in the crowd turn their attention to something else or really someone and scream and cheer. "Y/n! Over here!" "Y/n!" "Y/n please!" The crowd shouts as Y/n smiles and waves at them.

Richard couldn't help to stare in awe hopelessly smiling to himself staring at his crush from afar.

Y/n begins to sign posters and books for fans even getting into short conversations with them as well. Y/n had just won multiple Oscars like "Academy Award for Best Director,Academy Award for Best Documentary, Special Achievement Academy Award and much more

Richard's agent finally pulls Richard out of his trance pulling him to an interview.

"How are we doing tonight Richard?" The woman asks earning a sweet smile from Richard. "Doing lovely."

"Great! I gotta say I love the film. Everything about it I loved. Your acting was top tier good job on the work." "Thank you thank you." Richard thanks.

"But I gotta ask. Who do you think looks best tonight?"

"That's easy Y/n L/n. He always looks wonderful. Honestly everything about him is wonderful. His books and documentaries are so outstandingly wonderful. And great on him for winning." Richard answers without hesitation even looking around for the writer.

"Have you two ever met?" The woman asks curiously. "No not yet. But I would love to meet him. He's my biggest role model---" Before Richard could fully answer one of his co-stars from a nearby interview pokes in.

"And his biggest celebrity crush!" Earning a play shove from Richard giving them a playful glare.

"Is that true Richard?" The woman says with a smile. "Guilty. It's true he's my celebrity crush. I find him quite handsome." Richard smiles before saying his goodbyes to the woman before getting pulled away by his co-star.

TIMESKIP

Richard couldn't believe it. Just hours later from Richard gushing about Y/n now hes meeting him for the first time.

Richard is in the dressing room getting ready for about the seventh time trying to make sure he looks perfect.

While brushing his hair someone knocks on the door. "Mr Madden! You're on." Richard gives himself one more look in the mirror before getting up leaving the dressing room and walking with the assistant.

As the interviewer introduces Richard he could see Y/n already in his seat smiling at the crowd. "Richard Madden everybody!" Jimmy Fallon shouts as on cue Richard Madden walks out smiling and waving at the crowd.

Richard shakes hands with Jimmy giving him a small hello before turning to Y/n who is standing shyly looking at Richard. Richard says hello to Y/n even giving him a kiss on the cheek.

Now Jimmy is giving Richard all his attention not even asking Y/n any more questions or getting any feedback. Y/n was his own little world being the introvert he is. Of course Richard is quick to notice from not hearing his crush talk. Richard gives Y/n a few glances before finally speaking up whispering into his ear.

"Y/n are you always this cute and shy?" Earning Y/n to blush and a small smile to appear on his lips.

"Y/n. What first expired you first to start doing documentaries and writing?" Richard asks out loud this time to include Y/n in the interview.

"U-uhm. Well my first book was about the history of sharks when I was only eleven... As when I got older I started to study more and more about history then I-I started to write about the human revolution, the earth and it's entire history, space, animals, crime and prison and now my latest documentary the truth of Hollywood." Y/n rambles on cutely.

"Could you tell us more about the truth of Hollywood?" Richard asks moving his arm around Y/n's chair bringing him closer.

"Well- It's about the truth about Hollywood. Like what is Hollywood doing to all these actors and actresses controlling their everyone move like much they eat, how they talk and so much more more. It's just me voicing my concerns and just overall exposing them." Y/n says getting cheers and screams from the crowd.

"After this what is next?" Richard asks with a wink already knowing what Y/n is making next. "I'm writing a book of love. About what love is and what it means to the human race and other organisms." Y/n answers timidly.

"So basically he's making a book about us." Richard flirts earning Y/n to blush and shy away from him.

"Y/n. I honestly never imagined you to be so shy." Jimmy teases earning Y/n to be even more shy. "In your writings and documentaries you sound so confident and such a badass, but in real life you're a shy introverted guy!"

Before Y/n could respond Richard says something first. "He's a shy guy with over the three biggest Oscar nominations, worlds best writer award of the year two times in a row, five times Nobel prize winner." Richard praises the audience to roar with cheer.

"In overall he's a beautiful creative man that I think i'm in love with." Richard flirts.

For the rest of the talk show Richard is flirting with Y/n anytime he gets alongside praising him for his work.

With the interview gets to an end Richard asks Y/n one more question. "Y/n I have one more question. Could I get a small kiss?" Once those words fall out of Richard's mouth Y/n smiles uncontrollably blushing covering his face.

The audience begins to chant "kiss him!" over and over again until they get what they want and Jimmy.

Finally Y/n moves his hands away facing Richard mumbling a "fine..." Y/n and Richard move in closer and closer. Y/n is the one who closes the distance pressing a soft kiss on Richard's lips. Richard melts into the kiss for a while before pulling away with the biggest smile on his face.

Richard moves his hand onto Y/n's holding it tightly. Y/n and Richard smile at the audience. While Jimmy begins to end the show.

"And thank you to the newly couple Y/n L/n and Richard Madden everybody!"

Okay, a few thoughts on the Semi Final 1 acts

1. Norway 🇳🇴 - Alessandra was kind of a let down. Maybe it's because she was opening the entire Contest and the show got to her but her performance at her national final remains superior. More energy, more passion and you could tell she was actually enjoying it. The crowd went crazy when they still hadn't announced her as a qualifier though so, obviously, she's still gonna do okay. But I saw a tweet that next year's Contest would definitely be held in one of the three Nordics of Semi 1. Not in Norway, I don't think.

2. Malta 🇲🇹 - Such a shame honestly. I can't see why this song never got the hype it deserved. It's peak Eurovision, it's fun and The Busker gave their everything on that stage. It's made even more frustrating because y'all know this would have qualified in the second Semi 🙂

3. Serbia 🇷🇸 - Wow. The crowd went absolutely crazy during Luke's performance. They even chanted the "secret" 'bitch' part 🤣 He really was great. I expect perhaps a bit more in the final now that's he's secured his place in it.

4. Latvia 🇱🇻 - I said it last night too, the last few seconds were they all sing / mouth the Latvian part were haunting. I almost teared up. But, yeah, ultimately I can also see why they didn't make it. Maybe a jury would have saved them but I don't think they would have gotten an overwhelming amount of points from them either because Remo would have syphoned them up, and as we saw he was still able to qualify on televoting alone so yeah.

5. Portugal 🇵🇹 - WOW. Miss girl. Miss mother. She brought her A+ game alright! Everyone has been hyping up her performance style since Festival da Canção and the pre parties. Because the song is only ok but her performance really elevates it to new heights. I only started feeling really good about this after her rehearsal footage but wow. It was even better! Mimicat really ate that stage up. I don't wanna say she was a pleasant surprise because we knew she would qualify, but she did even better than expected is all in saying.

6. Ireland 🇮🇪 - I liked the song but yeah the performance was not on par with everyone else's. I felt he may have been kinda nervous? Idk.

7. Croatia 🇭🇷 - I have been watching them perform this song ever since their national final and I was still not ready for... that. I can't imagine people's reactions seeing them for the first time 😂 Amazing. This is how you do a political song. Zoran's vocals were also better live this time.

8. Switzerland 🇨🇭 - Remo's vocals were really good. We were pretty much guaranteed to have that but even I was pleasantly surprised. Out of all the sad slow songs his was definitely the best and the juries are gonna eat him up. I gotta say his message is a tiny bit tone deaf though like, he keeps saying that he's in an age that usually Swiss guys get drafted in the army and that he couldn't imagine being in an actual war like... Sweetie, what are you saying 🤣 I doubt comically neutral Switzerland is gonna send you to war anytime soon, and if the Swiss army is anything like the Greek one, you're just gonna do lots of chores, maybe some desk work and a couple of patrols. You're gonna be okay trust me! But then again, Europe is pretty tone deaf on most issues so this is ultimately a good fit.

9. Israel 🇮🇱 - The second disappointment of the night 😬 Like, you don't understand, every day at the gym, her and Alessandra usually come back to back on the playlist and they literally give me so much energy boost 😂 I didn't get that last night. The song is still messy, it's like BLACKPINK and she, apparently has the questionable vocals to match. Yay 😬 She killed the dance break of course so at least she's got that on BLACKPINK but she's no Eleni Foureira, no Chanel. They both danced throughout their performances as well but were still able to give good vocals, Chanel even hit a high note after her dance break. If she doesn't fix her vocals by the final the juries are gonna vote her down. Hard.

10. Moldova 🇲🇩 - Like Mimicat, Pasha also did better than expected. I honestly don't remember his 2012 entry, other than it's title, but this will stay for years! Yes it's this year's Shum, just like Fulenn was last year's, but Europe clearly enjoys pagan rituals in the forest so I hope someone continues to perform them each year. Maybe it's a secret EBU rule; someone has to do the ritual to appease Martin Osterhdal otherwise he'll invite America or sth.

11. Sweden 🇸🇪 - Miss Queen killed it ok. When I saw her Melodifestivalen performance I wasn't sure about the weird LED sandwich thing and I honestly couldn't understand what the fuck she was saying, and when I saw rehearsal footage of the smaller Liverpool LED I felt her staging got fucked a bit but they actually found the proper camera angles to make it work. Loreen sounded amazing, probably the best female vocals of last night, so yeah I can honestly see this winning again.

12. Azerbaijan 🇦🇿 - They were cute. Wholesome. But that's about it. This was such an inoffensive performance but I feel like it was ultimately not memorable at all too.

13. Czechia 🇨🇿 - Oh my god, the Vesna ladies KILLEDT itt!! So happy and proud of them. They became my favourites during rehearsals not only because Austria didn't bring it as much as I wanted but also because their act itself is amazing. Nothing more to add. Very happy.

14. Netherlands 🇳🇱 - Wow. I feel so sad for them, because they got a lot of shit in the last few months about their vocals and I guess it was kind of justified based on this performance, Dion's at least because Mia kind of kept it consistent but... Yeah 😬 I hope they still had fun though because they look like genuinely nice people, all of them this year. I honestly don't think there's any annoying contestants this year so losing any of them genuinely feels crushing this year, but I feel extra sad for Mia and Dion because, after Blanka, I feel like they might have been trashed the most this year.

15. Finland 🇫🇮 - He's bringing it alright. The performance is really nice and it's basically what I expected of him. The dances are also very much into this. They're giving a lot of drama and I love that. At times I was actually focusing on them instead of Kääri. The crowd went absolutely crazy too. Probably the loudest response. However... The vocals during the end 😬 Oof. If he doesn't fix that by the final the juries are gonna go after him hard.

João woke up to the sound of scratching, quiet and a bit distant, but still invasive. He stirred and dared to pry open an eye, unsure of what time of day he would potentially find himself immersed in, but otherwise quite certain of what it was that had disturbed him. For one, the bed was empty besides himself; secondly, this was not the first, nor third, nor tenth time that he had received such a wake up call…

…what was that thing they said about history repeating itself?

“Dammit, Sadık…” he groaned, rolling onto his back, arms flopped over his face in an attempt to block out the stream of sunlight hitting the bed.

“Good morning,” Sadık replied, nevertheless, still working away in the corner of the room. “Did you sleep okay?”

João had to bite back a laugh. “I was sleeping fine until you decided to start drawing again, querido.”

“Oh, uh… Sorry about that…”

“‘S fine, at least it’s a weekend. I don’t have to be in a good mood for anyone, like clients or co-workers…  A day-long strop sounds kinda fun, really…”

“I’m stopping, I’m stopping!” Sadık professed all the while, and sure enough, João heard the scrambling and rustling of paper being hastily set down on the floor—the only place for it to go—and he couldn’t help but smile to himself.

Sadık was good. Sadık was good to him—amazing to him, really—and João treasured that. Sadık was funny, caring without being suffocating, and incredibly wholesome. But, oh my God, was he also a bit of a dork (granted, one of João’s favourite things about him).

While his partner sorted himself out, João sat up in bed and stretched. A yawn fought its way out of him—he tried to smother it behind a hand—and the next thing he knew, he was the one being smothered by kisses, a barrage against his cheek. João could not stop himself from laughing.

“Okay, okay, I accept the apology!” he assured the other, only half-heartedly fending him off.

Sadık seemed relieved. “Good!” he replied. “Am I allowed to continue drawing now?”

João stammered over a response, the words escaping him before he eventually settled on: “Are you going to let me actually see what you’re drawing this time?”

“Well, maybe. Depends how it turns out.”

“You never show me your sketches,” João huffed, giving a pout as though to exaggerate his point (and guilt-trip him). “Considering that I’m the thing you draw more often than anything else, and also bearing in mind you normally paint places and not people, I’d kinda like to see what I actually look like. I hope you’ve been drawing my good side!”

“Every side is your good side,” Sadık promised him. A hand tucked João’s hair back over his shoulder and out of the way, and the intimacy of it, minimal as it was, certainly helped to mellow him. “I’ll show you later on. There’s some things that need fixing, and I’d hate for you to see an unfinished sketch.”

João conceded—compromise was far easier and than pushing for something—and in the same breath, Sadık agreed to take a break. That was all João wanted to hear.

With that settled, he got up from bed, a sudden burst of energy in his body (which seemed to startle Sadık somewhat), and he stretched once more. There was some tension in his shoulder—a massage would surely help, he figured—but rather than getting the hint, Sadık had other priorities:

“You should probably stop giving the neighbourhood a private viewing,” he said, a blanket appearing and wrapping itself around the lower half of João’s otherwise very naked body. The latter was amused. The curtains weren’t even open that wide but bless, if the paranoia wasn’t adorable!

“And here I thought you liked it when I was naked,” he teased.

“I do,” Sadık replied, “but only when I get the private viewing.”

“Mmmh. Noted.”

Still, João took custody of the blanket and kept himself wrapped up, mostly because that blanket was nice and cosy, and he was in no real hurry to get dressed. What was on his mind more than anything was the drawing—Sadık’s little obsession with grabbing whatever medium he had to hand and just beginning to transfer João onto paper. Sometimes, it was nice. He really was a talented artist, and seeing his passion and focus was quite the inspiration, as well as just generally endearing. But sometimes, the real João wanted the attention—wanted the dutiful gaze, the gentle fingers, the artist’s appraisal…

“João?”

“Mhmm…?”

“I’ve upset you.”

“No,” João said, shaking his head (but otherwise unsure how to reassure him). “You haven’t upset me, it’s fine.”

“Something isn’t fine, though,” Sadık nevertheless noted, “and I’ve got a funny feeling it’s still the drawing thing.”

João, knowing how transparent he could be around the other, was hardly going to deny it now. “It’s always the drawing thing,” he said. Not in a confrontational way, however, so much as just a dismissive, ‘it doesn’t really matter’ sort of way. This little thing hardly warranted a serious discussion, he felt. “Like I said, querido, it’s fine. I don’t entirely hate it.”

He just hated it when it got in the way of Them.

(Well, and his sleep… but that was less important.)

Just as João was ready to move on, start the day, debating between a shower and a hug, he was interrupted. Sadık stepped in his path and blocked his route to any exit from their bedroom (for less intimidating reasons that it sounded, of course). João was ready to dig his heels in, either way, so sure that the other wanted to address this blip. He didn't want the talk, he didn't want the coddling, he didn't want the, 'there there, it's okay' because he despised it—had seen it too often in previous relationships. That, and he quite simply didn't want to get in the way of Sadık and his craft. So further discussion was off the table!

Yet, words and diatribe did not appear. Not right away.

Instead, Sadık’s hands came to hold his face, cupping his cheeks and ensuring that João listened to whatever it was he had to say. The way he smiled held a warmth that only Sadık was capable of—a warmth that spread right from his chest, through his fingertips, and into João’s very being. Silly as he thought it was, for the other to draw him so frequently and to be the subject of the other’s gaze in such a way, João... did love it. He appreciated it. Sadık loved him, and he never had to say it for it to be believed.

“Listen,” his partner duly began, “I can’t help it, and you should know that by now. There’s just something so beautiful about you, canım, and I don’t know what it is—but you are just… I can’t resist drawing you, loving you…”

Warmth became poorly-hidden surprise.

“Beautiful?” João repeated, trying to mask his wariness of the word behind a light scoff, a half-laugh. What followed was a brief but awkward pause, an uncertainty about how to respond… “Very cute and romantic of you,” he eventually managed to say as the other’s hands fell away again, “but flattery will get you nowhere. You woke me up with your endless scratchy sketching, and you still have to make it up to me!”

“Ah— Coffee?”

“And?”

“Breakfast in bed?”

João tutted. “I’m not in bed anymore, what’s the point?”

“On the balcony, then,” Sadık suggested. “Coffee and a light breakfast.”

“Better. it’s almost perfect, in fact…”

“Almost…?”

João tapped his cheek. Sadık understood. He leaned in and a peck landed on his cheek (warmth blossomed from the spot, a raindrop rippling in a lake) and, just when João was ready to let him get on his way, Sadık saw fit to then steal a heartier meal from the other, lips on lips, hands on waist.

Yes, well, when Sadık had suggested a light breakfast, João had not expected himself to potentially be on that menu.

(Maybe for lunch...)

“Go on,” João laughed, gently pushing the other away before someone got too greedy (as much as he would have loved to carry on). “Go and make a start on food, or something. I’m going to have a quick shower, okay?”

“Aw, didn't you fancy sharing with me?”

“Just go!”

Satisfied with his jesting, Sadık scarpered off, snickering away to himself through the apartment, and leaving João to himself.

A shower was indeed a good idea. His hair was in need of some attention (really, those dead ends seriously needed trimming; he would have to ask Sadık if he minded helping him with that later on) and, just in general, he preferred to feel properly refreshed and awake before getting on with the day. It put him in a better mood.

Before he did that, however, there was… something he had to quickly do.

With Sadık gone, João returned to his bedside table and opened the middle drawer. From it, he retrieved an old pen and a notebook, already half-filled with scrawl and mess and explosions of random thoughts that came to him at all times of day. But he needed it. It may have been chaos, but it was also important to him—an ongoing project that, much like his hair, required some serious attention.

Sitting down on the bed, João hurried to find where he had left off: a chunk of dialogue more matted than his own locks. Bad, bad, bad. He turned to the adjacent blank page, wielded his pen, and began to write an… alternative exchange:

“I can’t help it, and you should know that by now. There’s just something so beautiful about you, and I don’t know what it is—but you are jus—”

“Beautiful is a big word, and a very sweet one, too. But what makes me beautiful is you—your love. You give me a reason to be. Without you, there would be no one to be beautiful for; I’d be a garden with no flowers, a ship with no sea. You are why I am the way that I am, and I love you for it—more than these words could ever truly say.”

Yes, yes… That was much, much better…

Now, if only he knew how to say that, not in a book, but to a face…
