It has been a while hasn’t it, where you felt genuinely happy in the present, where thoughts of distress weren’t creeping up on you for attention. YOU FEEL DIFFERENT BECAUSE YOU ARE DIFFERENT. You are simply here to be you, by your presence alone you are lifting the earth. All you need to be is your truest, most authentic self. It will take some effort mind you, a lot of unlearning tp do, it might feel wrong even to go against what you have been taught, to take the burden of. But in the end, your freedom awaits where you feel caged no more. YOU ARE A HUMAN BEING, NOT A HUMAN DOING, so be simply be. ALSO, YOUR SPEECH IS OF IMMENSE IMPORTANCE, you speak your world into being. SERIOUSLY. AFFIRMATIONS AND SPEECH ARE MORE IMPORTANT FOR YOU THAN ANYONE. Speak what you want to come true. You want love but you don’t want to ask as it makes you seem weak, and you HATE LOOKING WEAK. You are being told to channel all this energy into your next creative project or the current one. ASK YOURSELF: WHAT WANTS TO BE BIRTHED THROUGH ME. SIT WITH IT. The answer will come to you, don’t chase the answer, just be. Some of you have these issues because you are compulsively controlling, and have problem relishing control. Your trust was broken as a child, and hence the need to control otherwise you feel that things won’t go the way you want to because others are not worth trusting. You require inner child healing for receiving love as well.

The canon interpretation of Cards is that the player is possibly being given the domain of games, and I like that! But these titles can be nitpicked and disputed, so The Academic already has their eye on paper and sorting systems. Looks like that feud with Pages isn't quite over…

On all of this: my assumption is that he sees Londoners as naive little children rather than something so objectifying (after all, he has a deep insight into others’ fears/minds/dreams and therefore individualities, which would make it hard to perceive them not as persons). It was my first impression from "Tracking down the Manager" where his manners are condescending not in a cold but in a fatherly way:

(And that’s exactly where his interaction with MotR characters came to my fanfiction from, yes):

What’s important, he distances himself from everyone. Even this overfamiliarity seems artificial; a shield, a mask. Talking as if to himself, being cryptic, etc. (as you’ve noted) – it’s all this. In my opinion, it has several reasons: his adaptation to loneliness is definitely one of these, but also perhaps he is reluctant (even afraid) to grow attached to anyone. Because they may break his heart just like his lover... or they may exploit his weaknesses and wishes just like the Masters... or he may lose them just like his people (or any friends he might have had in other fallen cities, all doomed and dead, again and again).

In contrast, he becomes unexpectedly sincere and serious (and very vulnerable) at times:

Always keeping this mask on gets unbearable and true feelings break through. He needs someone to listen to him and see his real self; maybe he just doesn’t believe anymore that anyone actually will.

As for talking in riddles, likewise he can be absolutely straightforward, and this moment reveals that he can use incomprehensibility to conceal truths that are too painful:

Perhaps the best sum of his behaviour is this journal: whimsical, cryptic, deliberately resisting us – but when we finally peek inside we find out it’s because its secrets are too personal and sensitive:

It's really grinds my gears that the cards ending is just Expected of people to be the one you go for when that ending is something that heavily squicks me out like. Extremely

Transformation stuff like that grosses me out, but the whole loss of identity aspect is...while not quite triggering, most certainly upsetting for me. The idea of completely loosing who you were like that, that the person a character once was no longer exists... it just doesnt sit well with me.

So I got really on edge whenever someone tried to suggest that was the ending I 'should have' picked for my character. Like yall have no idea how upsetting of a concept that is to me lmao. Like not even in a fun horror way, I can't stand irreversible loss of self like that ;-;

1. please, please stop erasing a canonically Chinese character by saying that the King with a Hundred Hearts is 100% Enkidu

2. for y'all who complain that May doesn't look middle eastern enough in Mask of the Rose cuz something something NO BEARD and BRIGHT EYES and SMOOTH HAIR and that he simply must be Black cuz in fact you don't care where Mesopotamia or any other foreign land is...... behold:
