If the fact that Nalia indirectly massacred everyone of her bloodline doesn't tell you enough about the de Reale family; then this little guide should help clear up the fact that they're dysfunctional, to say the least. {But what royal family isn't?} Before we start, here's a brief family tree {including part of the Noraccan royal family};

AUGUSTE AND XIMENA

The second treaty bethrothed Auguste and Ximena in order to stop the Vallecian- Noraccan war. Though the marriage was politically successful, Auguste and Ximena made for a terrible couple. Despite all of the bickering and fighting, the two managed to birth a heir; Lucio.

LUCIO

An unpopular emperor who made it his duty to take the peace his parents had made and ruin it. The Vallecian mainland experienced an economic boom under Lucio's reign, but he left Noracco neglected and met rebellions with a firing squad.

MELAINA

Brought to court for her beauty, she quickly caught Lucio's eye. Melaina despised him, but she could never run away from being empress for fear of loosing the exotic animals she was gifted or her children, both of which she loves dearly.

VERA

Although the heirs of Vallece are selected for their powers over their age, that's not to say that first-borns aren't favored. Vera being the perfect example. Unfortunately, the Storm Serpents didn't care for her power, justness or intelligence, as she was the first to die.

ANETE

Where her elder sister failed, Anete succeeded. Meaning, of course, that Anete was not only the better warrior; but also the better survivor. Vera would be so mad. But every warrior and every survivor has their scars. Yet no one at court was ready to see the tallon marks that ran across her body and face, leaving Anete blind to her surroundings and mercy alike.

SISTENE

Born with her mother's beauty, Sistene had her pick of suitors lining up at her window after her coming of age. However, as no man had words for her fairness, Sistene had no words to describe her appalment at the prospect of being married.

CLARICE

When news of the massacre came out, some nobles were shocked that it was Nalia to indirectly kill her family, not Clarice. Clarice had always been known for her desire to become empress, despite the fact that she was the least powerful of the five sisters. It's rumoured that she took her frustration out on her younger sister.

NALIA

The book loving, sarcastic and spoiled princess that none of the remaining courtiers want on the throne. Too curious for her own good, and too insecure for the lives of her family; both led to the massacre. Either that, or she had missed her morning, brunch and noon tea.

Appearance ➞ Bright red hair, olive skin, dark eyes with an athletic build. Can appear feminine, masculine, both, or neither depending on the day. Their most identifiable feature is the black half mask they constantly wear.

Six's notes - While I'd like to say that it's easy to tell Cass' gender by their clothing, it's not. It's better to simply ask. Strange, though, that I have never seen the design of Cass' military uniform anywhere. 

History ➞ Cassiel is a long companion of Aidonus, and from their relationship might be able to assume a mentor-student relationship, or a master-subordinate. Perhaps both. Aliva

Aliva was the first human to become a dragon rider (marada). She was the Queen of Achen until the Dragon Civil War. She sided with the Traitors in the war, causing some to believe that humans shouldn't be riders. She is also the only rider to have been bonded to multiple dragons, Liviss and Liviss's daughter, Emryn. Both of her dragons were black. She is also notorious for killing the first two Rider Queens.

Despite ten years of opening acts, she never got used to it. The scrutiny. The attention. The emotions so bare on every face, emanating from them like the heat from her spells. T is for Tatiana

Tatiana is Edward's younger sister, the eldest of five sisters in the family. She is quite the politician, often advising her elder brothers on state matters. Tatiana was the most eligible bride in the kingdom after the two princesses, her hand being of such importance she was eventually made a ward of the Queen. Though now married to one of the most powerful heirs in the kingdom and raising two small sons, Tatiana still has a powerful voice in the lives of her brothers both political and personal.

The main wlw relationship in The Thirteen Kingdoms is Clarice and Anya. They both met at court in service to the Queen. Owing to the rather strict laws of the kingdom, the pair are married to a mlm couple (Francis and Julian). The two marriages are happy ones for Francis and Julian are they are as adversed to women as they are to men.

Y is for Ymrie

Ymrie is one of the royal nursemaids, serving John's sister Queen Margaret. Ymrie was originally their nursemaid, raising them when they were penniless orphans along with Nat who she considers as her grandson (he isn't). Ymrie is one of the more kinder people in the series. Ymrie acts as a voice of reason when needed, a nurse whenever someone is injured, a cook when bellies are rumbling but don't menace her she will beat you with a wooden spoon. Don't touch her boys or her girl either.

Hi! I used this website to map out the rise and fall of empires in Songs of Aleria - mainly for my own sanity. I have yet to add streams, mountains, valleys and glaciers, etc. But this is a rough draft of what the world looks like. This helped me immensely and I want to share the resource it may be useful for you as well!

Songs of Aleria: the World

The Giants reigned from the tip of the Western shore till the Tarragon glaciers until a slave boy names Aleria rose in defiance changing the course of history. 

Following the defeat of the Giants, many forged their own kingdoms seeking to be the next great empire. However, even those little empires were conquered by the Alerian Empire, all except for the Sea Serpents. 

After years of failure, Lasair finally conquered the Sea Serpents after forming an alliance with Ayla. 

Lasair also funded exploration and during her time, The New World was founded. The Island of Reyla was named after the explorer, a pirate, that discovered the New World. However, the island was already inhabited by a people known as the Eikko (represented by green on the map). But this did not stop the Empire of Aleria from occupying the newly discovered territory.
