Just a random thought, what in reapers were sent only to investigate and not to take any action. Ronald may be watching the whole scene from the shadows and later report to HQ. As such, what if Jane also is a grim reaper and was investigating at the manor? While fighting the girls she was just playing her part as an undercover agent
Just observe and report?
That might have once been the case for reapers sent to investigate before collecting souls in weird situations, but things have changed ever since Othello sent that dove in ch149, since he's specifically calling the other reapers to action: they must focus on actively stopping Undertaker and his minions.
So, I don't think Ronald has orders just to observe and report back. Not in this case. He might need to call in some backup, or he might just be waiting for his scheduled backup to arrive, since it's common for at least one more reaper to show up later, closer to "go time".
Sadly, as cool as it would be, I don't think Jane is a reaper we just don't get a reveal for during that assignment. Besides, she's not wearing glasses, and even while playing butler to Madam Red, Grelle wore glasses. Only the deserting reapers don't wear glasses anymore.

These observations are somewhat premature since the translation has yet to be released, but I’m currently going insane over this panel from the raws:
Tumblr media
The orphans’ outfits bear a striking resemblance to a certain undead Phantomhive heir’s attire, don’t they?
Tumblr media
And, of course, the Fenian Cycle held great personal significance for both of the twins during their formative years:
Tumblr media
As my good fren and mutual @bapydemonprincess noted here last month, the orphanage’s layout as displayed thus far is eerily similar to the Phantomhive family manor…and now we have a gaggle of boys potentially being trained up as new Ciel copycats? The game is afoot!
I wonder if Undertaker is using this establishment as a means of molding the children’s spirits in R!Ciel’s image, thus developing a replacement soul for the little bizarre doll. (Perhaps a similar principal guided Baron Chris Heathfield’s trysts with his maids to assess the shape of their souls…was he looking for a suitable psyche to reanimate his deceased wife?)
It’s also quite apt that the Fenian Cycle receives a cameo during this Finnian-centric arc, considering that O!Ciel named the gardener after one of the heroes found within its pages.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Not sure if this callback will have additional plot relevance down the line, but it’s an interesting detail! Our sweet Finny will probably need to be stronger than a whole herd of deer if he hopes to survive this mission unscathed. 😭

Now I'm starting to see a pattern here...
In the first mission the targeted people for the blood collections are maids. OCiel sent Mey-rin, the maid with Ranmao
Second mission is to infiltrate a sanatarium. He sent Bard which is an ex-soldier along with Lau.
In the third mission, he sent Finnian and Snake to the orphanage where they teach children very specific things according to their "aptitude". (I'm thinking they didn't pass the test because they're overage, the children there look about less than 12 years old, around Ciel's age... or not. Maybe ten. Kinda confusing since Doll is there, LOL. But that's another theory my brain have yet to brainrot to.)
The fourth and last one being Sebastian and Ciel going to the resort, which is for noble people iirc. Ciel is a nobility.
I'm thinking Undertaker did this deliberately to separate Sebastian and Ciel from the rest. For what? idk. Like divide and conquer. He made it easier for them to infiltrate the places so that they will be at ease at investigating? So that they will be less cautious I guess? Also He and RCiel just chilling when Heathfield Manor basement was destroyed. That's kinda saying something hmm.
🤷 Just a theory LOL *runs*

There is probably more than one Shinigami deserter behind the Blue sect and revenge arcs
Old theory is old [x][x], but I wanted to explain it more thoroughly considering the few recent discoveries.
At this point, I think everyone can imagine that, considering the scale of the operation thus far (with several blood collection sites, a high tech lab, etc), UT needs sponsors and specific backup in order to make it all work, especially considering he seems to mostly hang around real!Ciel.
Tumblr media
This is backed up even more by similar previous examples in the story, such as:
the circus arc, in which that mad doctor was sponsored by Baron Kelvin for their twisted experiments
the Green witch arc, with the whole deception around Sieglinde in Germany sponsored by the state
Sieglinde’s new lab in England is now sponsored by Queen Victoria
In other words, without money there is no medical or scientific wonder. And UT probably doesn’t have enough money in his wallet, considering...
Tumblr media
...he didn’t get paid much when he was working as a mortician (this isn’t a joke, he despises the Queen a lot).
Therefore it’s likely that the sponsors were there since the start of the BD experiment, as it was already hinted during the Campania arc.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Several Japanese fans (and I think some fans here as well) previously mentioned it’s possible the Undertaker managed to realize this first experiment because the Campania belonged to the Blue Star Line company, who may have been involved in the Aurora society because they wanted to resurrect their heir (Patrick Phelps who died in Ciel’s manor, one arc prior).
When it comes to the Weston arc, the previous Prefect Four called on the Aurora Society to resurrect the students and teacher that they had killed, which is how UT ended up supervising Derrick Arden’s return as well as Ciel’s investigation.
Until then, UT explained each step of the BD project, from the editing of the cinematic records to the supplementary episodes (”yearning for the future”) that are grafted (and he sacrificed many BDs, except real!Ciel). This means it’s possible that UT, as a skilled Shinigami before deserting, would have been able to edit the records by himself.
However, the scale changed once more with the Blue Sect arc, adding actual medicine to the resurrection process and that’s precisely when Othello hinted...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...that UT alone wouldn’t have been able to make it work, because he lacks the scientific knowledge.
This is further confirmed in ch149 when Othello recalls that no one actually expected UT to turn into a mad scientist able to do this...
Tumblr media
Besides, as UT himself explained in ch141, it’s because he was trying to bring the twin back in the first place that he ended up working on the BD project, which led to the 3 arcs we know.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In other words, it’s because UT researched a way to bring the twin back that it led to him meeting with these “eccentric fellows”. And now, the growing number of bizarre dolls are simply the results of people paying
to get some people resurrected as a BD (that couple in the Campania arc, the Prefect Four, Phelps’ family? Chris Heathfield ?)
or to get BDs as weapons (Queen Victoria? maybe Germany and France which would explain why UT went there briefly during Summer?)
In the Blue sect arc, we even saw a new form of “sponsors”: people paying to get better health and a slightly prolonged life...
Tumblr media
...until they became a blood collection source and died.
Aside from UT lacking enough medical knowledge, another reason I think there is another deserting Shinigami involved is because the consequences of the BD experiments are a real liability for the Shinigamis’ higher-ups:
Tumblr media
And while we don’t know why UT or any other Shinigami deserted, it’s been hinted before that they could have discovered something incredibly shady behind the Shinigami Organization. [x][x][x]
So, while UT seems mostly motivated by a personal goal (not losing more Phantomhives), it’s possible that another deserting Shinigami would have a completely different motive, one that might include shattering the balance of the world.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
In any case, the fact that ch191 showed Layla/Al (Lord Vega, a status she probably has because someone in her family paid a lot of money to have her resurrected and on blood transfusions, maybe she’s Chris Heathfield’s daughter?) wielding a possible death scythe is just yet another hint of more Shinigami deserter(s) being involved in this project.
After all, UT mentioned that it was quite hard to leave the Organization with his scythe, so for now I don’t think he managed to smuggle out several scythes (nor to create one from scratch), meaning that:
these scissors/daggers belong to another Shinigami who deserted and who lent them to Layla
or that UT took them from another Shinigami whom, in that case, he most likely killed (post desertion)
Tumblr media
As to who this deserter could be, well, a Japanese fan whose thoughts I love reading, because they always make a lot of sense, theorized before that this Shinigami deserter might be...
Tumblr media Tumblr media
...the doctor who recruited Ada (can’t be Stoker btw, he had no glasses).
Of course, their identity is only speculation at this point, but I find this would make more sense than UT single-handedly managing this big-ass operation when he only claims that he started to get involved in the BD project because “he didn’t want to lose more Phantomhives”. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I hope this made sense! Please let me know if I have forgotten a hint!

How will the Queen react?
With the truth about our Ciel’s identity being revealed I’ve been thinking about the Queen’s reaction to that - or better the lack thereof. A lot has happened which must have also reached Victoria’s ears. Not only is her Watchdog not the person he said he was (”Ciel”) which means he was lying to her but he’s also being searched for murder. And both news have been made public to everyone.
Tumblr media
Even if Victoria always knew that our Ciel wasn’t the real Ciel (remember how she always addressed him with “my boy” instead of his name) the reappearance of the true heir and public knowledge of this news might force her to take action or at least to show some sort of reaction. However, nothing has been heard from her since then. She seems suspiciously quiet to that and I wonder why.
Of course, we’ve only followed what our Ciel’s servants have been up to lately so Victoria may have already reacted to the whole thing without us knowing. Real Ciel doesn’t seem to have heard anything from her, though. He mentioned that he needs to contact her but doesn’t seem to want to do that immediately. (That scene may have been before the news got public, however.)
Tumblr media
But with the Queen’s past reactions to our Ciel’s mistakes (see what happened in the Murder arc) and with her more recent doubts of his loyalty to her (Green Witch arc) I would expect Victoria to react to this revelation in a way that our Ciel would notice. He lied to her about his identity which is how he got his title as Earl and the position as her Watchdog and now he is searched by the police as the culprit of the case the Queen sent him to investigate. This is way too much for Victoria to simply ignore.
Actually, this could be the perfect opportunity for her to get rid of our Ciel or at least to punish him severely. The Queen doubted his reports before and she doesn’t seem to trust his loyalty towards her anymore (and she’s right since our Ciel hid the knowledge of Sieglinde’s poison gas from her). If the Queen is also responsible for Vincent’s (maybe even Claudia’s) death because they weren’t reliable Watchdogs anymore the same fate could befall our Ciel if he fails to meet her expectations or acts against her wishes. @chibimyumi explained how our Ciel’s lies could very well be interpreted as high treason. If the Queen so wishes she could now label him as traitor and have him “removed” quite easily and even in a more or less legal way. And with real Ciel Victoria even has a replacement now who could simply take over as Watchdog until he, too, rebels against her.
I suppose one reason why she doesn’t have to act immediately is that the position as the Queen’s Watchdog is quite secret. Not many people know that such a title even exists and even less know who holds that title. So there isn’t much public pressure on the Queen to react to our Ciel’s lies in regard to the position as Watchdog, simply because the public doesn’t know about that. It’s probably a bit different with his title as Earl since that was way more official.
Tumblr media
I’m not quite sure how the rules work in that regard but the title as Earl and the estate was already given to “Ciel Phantomhive” so maybe that just automatically goes to real Ciel now that the imposter has been revealed without the Queen officially having to do anything. So for now, Victoria might just wait and see how things develop further before she decides on whether or how to punish our Ciel or who she wants to keep as her Watchdog.
On one hand, this could be an easy opportunity for her to replace and get rid of our Ciel whose loyalty she’s starting to doubt. On the other hand, apart from a few exceptions our Ciel has done a good job as Watchdog so far and replacing him with real Ciel who has no experience in that work and who has someone by his side who clearly doesn’t like the Queen (Undertaker) could be a risk, too.
Maybe Victoria has already set things in motion. That’s actually the idea I think is most likely. She may not have officially made any declaration yet but she could have sent her close servants to at least observe what our Ciel and maybe also real Ciel are up to. So before she makes her decision on who to keep as Watchdog she wants to see who is more loyal or who she can control more easily. @midnight-in-town discussed the idea of Jane (the maid from Heathfield’s manor) possibly being the Queen’s servant John Brown in disguise. Through this, Victoria would not only keep an eye on what our Ciel is doing but she’d also gain more information on the Bizarre Dolls who she seems to have such a strong interest in.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I think Victoria doesn’t really care who exactly does the job as her Watchdog. For some reason it always seems to be the Phantomhives’ job but within that restriction she doesn’t care whether it’s a man, a woman or a child. Maybe similar to how Undertaker views them, to Victoria they are all Phantomhives, without caring about them individually. What’s important to her is that they are loyal and obedient and maybe if that’s no longer the case she gets rid of them (Claudia? Vincent?) and replaces them with the next one. If she doesn’t want our Ciel as her Watchdog anymore (because of his lies or him hiding things from her) I’m pretty sure that she won’t just let him go unscathed. And I also think we’ll see a reaction from Victoria to our Ciel’s lie about his identity (at least some sort of punishment, if only to show him her power over him). Whether that’s still to come or if there are already things set in motion remains to be seen. But it could be building up to a confrontation between our Ciel and the Queen eventually which might lead to some truths about what happened to the Phantomhives.

Blue Cult Arc: Baldroy and Lau’s mission
Note: This theory is also influenced by @heyheresthekurochapter and a few insights of my own in the whole mission of each servants.
If we go back to Chapter 153, we can see that o!Ciel assigned each of the servants to places that is fitting with their background in general. And now that we are in Baldroy’s mission here are two theories that I have in mind.
Tumblr media
Theory 1: The place is not involved in the Aurora Society, but rather this whole mission will be similar to the Circus Arc.
If we go back to that arc, the Noah’s Ark Circus does not use the kidnapped children itself in their performances but rather was told to by Baron Kelvin, and the reason was kept unknown to the members. Now, applying that knowledge to the current arc we have right now, we can somewhat assume that this place may not be relevant to the Aurora Society. It’s worth mentioning that o!Ciel stated to see whether the place shows evidence of blood transfusion or not. So, there is a possibility that this place is not one of them.
Tumblr media
Now, in this story, Ronald appearing in this chapter reminds me so much of William’s infiltration in the circus arc; due to huge casualties and number of deaths, they may have also sent Ronald the same reason that William did.
Tumblr media
We all know that Baldroy’s expertise is explosives, and he always resorts to using them as a way of defending himself and the manor. Even at the beginning of the chapter, we saw him trying to pull out something from his chest before being splashed with water. (Also wow, Lau opened his eyes).
Tumblr media
Since this is a sanatorium, a place that provides medical care and treatment to former soldiers who have been wounded in combat, this will most likely be the root and trigger Baldroy’s PTSD same as o!Ciel in the circus arc. It is important to note that many veterans in real life have lingering symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD).  (Notice the detail how Baldroy feels uneasy at the thought of going to a place that may remind him of his past).
Tumblr media
Basically, there is a chance that Baldroy will have the same reaction as o!Ciel: destroying the place. This will result to a huge number of deaths just like in the circus arc.
Tumblr media
Theory 2: It’s in fact related to the Aurora Society, and Ronald’s infiltration does not only relate to the collection of souls but also to investigate on Undertaker.
If it’s not the cause of his PTSD, the cause may be their teamwork alongside Ronald. Ronald may have been sent to investigate since Othello asked for people to work alongside them in catching Undertaker. And since they have the knowledge that the Phantomhives are related to this conflict, they may likely investigate as close as possible to anyone who’s involved with the twins.
They may fight off a common enemy, the bizarre dolls, such as Polaris (not exactly him, but since we don’t even know how many bizarre dolls are actually there, we can only pinpoint what’s introduced to us), and because we can see that the bizarre dolls have such incredible speed and such power, so teaming up is a way to go. The people in the sanatorium might be affected, which may cause a few deaths here and there or maybe none at all same with the Heathfield Manor. (Here’s Agni thinking how the Bizarre Dolls have an unusual speed and strength)
Tumblr media
But who knows, maybe even both of these theories occur at the same time.
All in all, I don’t think Baldroy or Lau will die since there’s not gonna be much of a lost with these two (kind of sad how underrated they are honestly). BUT still there might be a possibility that Ronald may collect one of their souls, who knows.
P.S. I will be posting another theory as to why I think Snake and Finny’s mission will be the one that will most likely fail.

The most interesting part of chapter 169. Knife dude aka Polaris was the one assigned at the Heathfield manor and he seems to be a little upset for his failure... so curious to know what they are saying and if there will be mini arcs with Finny&Snake and Bard&Lau or not...

Kuroshitsuji ch. 169 Spoilers Summary
Bear in mind that I'm summarized this with my decent japanese skills, so if there's any mistakes feel free to point out through the RAW you've read
The maids who didn't know what's going on finally found out abt the other maids who were actually locked down underground for blood supplies. And they tried to contact yard immediately.
While the lady maid Abby was about to stopped them, suddenly Jane pointed gun at her to not act more further for keeping the maid as bride's candidate for the baron. Abby called Jane for being "the traitor" but she just brazenly replied that there's no betray rule in maid's requirements.
Baron Heathfield showed up with his swollen face saying how all his bride's candidate (花嫁) escape , then all the maids are enraged with how he tricked all of them and start beating his shit up LMAOO.
It's basically end of mission for both MeyRin & Ranmao. Jane who gone out manor with them literally complained that she becomes unemployed now. MeyRin was offering her a job that suits her if she's interested but Jane rejected her offers saying she doesn't want getting into something more troublesome stuff again.
Back to Phantomhive Manor, finally Polaris showed up to inform both R!Ciel & Undertaker that Heathfield blood stocks have been ruined. But it gave R! Ciel joys because how his brother outsmarted him winning on this fight.
Of course Polaris went batshit rage because this is not something to be pleased about because at this rate he can't fulfill to radiates Lord sirius more and cursing everyone who gets in the way as by mince all of them.
R!Ciel told Polaris to calm down as he's saying "I'm no longer lord Sirius now, that's actually my brother, isn't it". **(Which implying Polaris has younger brother?? Is it Blavat or is it someone else). FIXED THE MISTRANSLATION I'm sorry!! I'm just read them way too quick that I didn't realized he was referring Lord Sirius to O!Ciel now..
Polaris apologised and R!Ciel told him even his blood supplies r easy to get doesn't mean he needs to move around too much and needs to take a break.
Polaris said it's horrible that he don't want to lose his master anymore and he can't die & leave the things this way. And his last remarks saying "Because I am no matter what (at all cost) is your butler"
Anyway I think the total pages of this chapter is 20 now! I’m not including the RAWs picture because OP said to not repost them on other sites. You guys can check them here.

I think Jane is a reanimated corpse just like Layla 👀
Jane a bizarre doll?
I highly doubt it. They are quite literally programmed to follow whatever goals their cinematic records have been altered to follow. If their "episode" breaks or "runs wild", like it did for Agares, then they turn into the mindless "animal weapons" we saw on the Campania. Jane didn't lose her mind and start trying to bite them. And she didn't even stick to the task she was hired for. She gave up and walked away. So, no. Not a bizarre doll.
But this doesn't rule out the possibility she's... something... not quite human. At first, I thought she might be a demon, because she talks about her employment contract in similar ways as Sebastian talks about his. But, the more I think of it, the more I think she's a highly skilled human who's heart just wasn't in it enough. The pay wasn't good enough to deal with Mey-Rin and Ran-Mao levels of trouble. Besides, Heathfield had been exposed, and her job was likely to end, anyway.
I did take note of Jane saying something like "see you around", though. We just might see her again.... 🤔

I get the feeling some of the staff have no idea what goes on with those kids too tbh 💀 like someone lied to them too.
Hi, anon! Based on the pattern established by the previous two mission arcs, my guess is that the F.O.L. staff are at least partially aware of the orphanage’s true purpose, even though most of them probably don’t know the full details.
During the maid arc, Jane wasn’t privy to why Heathfield manor was collecting blood, but she knew those illicit activities were going on as soon as she stepped through the door, since she was hired to act as a bodyguard and keep the operation under wraps. Other servants were also active participants in the scheme, including Abbie the housekeeper, depicted below showing Jane where the unconscious maids were held.
Tumblr media
Likewise, Ada was complicit in drawing blood from her patients, even after making the connection between the dark underbelly of Sphere Music Hall and Athena Sanatorium. Of course, unlike Jane (who didn’t give a damn about the victims and only had her own pecuniary interests in mind) Ada sincerely cared for her patients, only continuing to collect blood under threat of losing funds if she disobeyed orders.
Tumblr media
Based on the events up to Chapter 200, I think the F.O.L. staff acknowledge that there’s shady business afoot but keep their heads down and focus on the job—if the orphans are hurt in the process, that’s not their problem. 🤷‍♀️
As Theodore told Finny, “the forest that surrounds F.O.L. Orphanage is filled with countless traps, the guardhouse is always staffed, and they’re on watch twenty-four hours a day to keep an eye on us.” Even if the adults were kept completely in the dark, surely some of them would find these excessive defenses and constant surveillance a little suspicious (Assuming Yana isn’t making them obtuse for the sake of plot convenience 🤪)!
Tumblr media Tumblr media
There’s also an undercurrent of tension (not the fun kind) among the ladies that occasionally rears its head. For example, when Doll begs these characters to let Snake stay at the orphanage just before Finny and him are booted out, their discomfort is obvious. This doesn’t look like annoyance at a child’s whims, but apprehension about crossing someone with a degree of power over them.
Tumblr media
Later on, when a minor change is made to the menu for the Pomeranian class’s afternoon tea, the staff flies into an all-out panic. And when Snake has the temerity to question their overblown reaction, one of the workers is so shocked that she involuntarily drops the plate she’s carrying. It’s almost like the grownups have the threat of dire consequences looming over their heads if they put a toe out of line. 👀
Tumblr media
Also, consider how sinister the paneling is when the chief of staff informs Susan of Ginny’s fledging day. Pitch-black backgrounds, shadowed faces. Not the reaction you’d expect from blissfully clueless women who assumed they worked for a Nice Normal Orphanage that Definitely Does Not Kill Kids.
Tumblr media
Speaking of fledging day…anyone with an ounce of common sense would hear alarm bells ring when all the orphans who attempt to escape or fail to meet the class system’s rigid expectations are sent packing. Again, the workers are either blind to what’s right in front of their noses, or they’re in on it.
Moreover, the staff make it their prerogative to keep the children ignorant. The newspapers given to the orphans are regularly censored to filter out any information—such as the uncovering of Sphere Music Hall’s crimes—that might clue the kids in to the grim reality in which they’re trapped. It’s possible that the adults are told they’re removing such content for the kids’ own good, to avoid upsetting them…but why be so assiduous in controlling the orphans’ perspective of the outside world unless you know there’s something to hide?
Tumblr media
While it’s unclear if they’ve been told who (and what) Doll actually is, they apparently know enough to cover for her when those pesky bizarre doll traits start peeking through. After Doll has to excuse herself following a woozy spell, Susan rushes to placate Snake with a bullshit excuse about her period (because everyone with a uterus turns into a fragile fainting flower when that time of the month rolls around. Didn’t you know? 🤡) and quickly changes the subject before they can ask too many questions. To me, at least, this read like a blatant attempt to conceal Doll’s episode from Finny and Snake, even if Susan isn’t completely aware of what these occurrences entail.
Tumblr media
And finally, there’s no way these workers sincerely believe that they shave orphans’ heads on their fledging day TO “GET RID OF LICE AND FLEAS” when F.O.L. Orphanage is supposedly such a prestigious establishment. You’re lying through your teeth, Susan. (If those poor babeys aren’t having their hair clipped for surgical purposes, I’ll eat my shoes)
Tumblr media
While I doubt the workers have the whole story, they’re far from innocent.

I remember being so perplexed reading Kuroshitsuji for the first time and seeing how absolutely incompetent each of the household staff were in the Phantomhive house other than the titular butler, so I just brushed it off as part of the comedic appeal. It was super fun finding out they’re all incompetent because they’re all hired muscle who are not really a gardener, maid, cook, and they’re actually extremely competent at the most important aspect of their jobs as Earl Phantomhive’s personal bodyguards. Ciel hired a sharp-shooter assassin, a war veteran, an enhanced human experiment subject and a snake charmer from a circus.
That’s what makes the differences in the recent chapters of kuro interesting to me -- in the past the Phantomhive servants’ roles have always been, first and foremost, to protect Ciel. Sebastian does literally everything else. Like, even the housework. Bard can’t cook and Mey Rin can barely clean. Finny tries his best. Household and other duties are also important, but whenever they need to step up in the story it’s always in roles of defence and protection. In the Circus Arc reveal, the servants defend the manor. In the Manor Murder Arc, they worry about how to go forward protecting Ciel after Sebastian fake-dies, and they’re by Ciel’s side bodyguarding him in the Green Witch arc. In all the times they fight, it’s to protect Ciel who’s life is in danger.
In the recent arc things have taken a turn. The first thing that happens when their young master loses his status and the manor is the confirmation the servants work for Ciel -- Ciel the 13yo boy -- not the title of Earl and not the Queen’s Watchdog. There’s no hesitation in where they will go or what will happen to them now that Ciel’s no Earl. After all of London, the Crown and Scotland Yard abandoned the fake Earl, the servants remain. There’s another ‘real’ Earl Phantomhive and they don’t care about him (other than Tanaka, who is deeply tied to the Phantomhive house, also very interesting...).
So the servants abandon the house to go with their one true master, Ciel. But this time their mission is different -- Ciel gives them orders to investigate certain institutions and destroy them if they are found to be corrupt and siphoning off people’s blood (relevant to the Ciel plotline). So off they go. What’s super interesting is the lengths each of the servants are ready to go to fulfil Ciel’s orders. Mey Rin, Bard and Finny have always shown to be ready to kill for the sake of protecting Ciel’s life -- but now the story’s progressed to telling us they’re ready to kill for Ciel’s ends too. (It’s good that we’re on Ciel’s side of course, and the mission is a just one, to protect more people from being used as blood bags to sustain reanimated corpses - but Ciel’s explicit orders are to annihilate the whole operation and exterminate it from existence. Killing is a given.)
Usually it’s Sebastian who goes behind the scenes and does the dirty work for Ciel. But now everyone’s in on the plan -- yet this time their actions and violence come with none of the legitimacy of being servants of the Earl. Yet they’re all ready to go hard.
If Jane had pressed her anymore, Mey Rin would have killed her for getting in the way of Ciel’s mission, and she (with Ran Mao) burned down the Heathfield Manor. I finally get how ready to kill these people are for Ciel when I read the recent chapter and realised Bard is seriously considering if he should burn down the hospital on his 13yo master’s orders because this man is THAT devoted.
Lao and Ran Mao might have their own separate agendas, but Mey Rin, Bard, Finny and Snake will kill because Ciel told them to. It kind of makes me wonder how far they’re willing to go for Ciel. They’re still doing this for the public good, but even if it wasn’t, I’m actually sure they’d do it anyway.

Why Jane is a demon
Back to Mey & Ran’s investigation we go: since I have some time, I want to do a recap post on why I think Jane is a demon and is also possibly John Brown, Victoria’s aide.
This sums up different posts that I previously wrote on Jane and on John being supernatural [x][x] and also possibly the main attacker behind the massacre at the Phantomhive manor, 4 years ago.
Premise
First of all, to replace the context: Heathfield was “looking to replace his wife” who died in a carriage accident along with their daughter.
Whether or not we think this was just a big lie, so that he could appeal to young women with a lower social standing in order to have intercourse with them (while UT maybe promised to eventually revive his wife or something), it’s clear that Abby and at least another servant used to be a part of the Aurora Society and were the ones driving this whole blood collect operation.
Meanwhile Jane was hired as a security guard...
Tumblr media
...which means that she’s unrelated to the Aurora society.
Notion of a job contract between Heathfield’s household and Jane
That’s the simplest clue: many readers noticed the way Jane talked whenever she referred to her job in the manor:

At some point, she also said that she would never do more on a job than what was directly asked of her (it was mistranslated in English so I won’t add the panel) and this all sounds very typical of demons speaking about their contract.
In other words, Jane stuck to her contract like glue, up until the operation was dismantled by Ciel’s allies. We’ll get back later to why a demon would give up when she could have easily defeated at least Mey.
Jane’s behavior towards Baron Heathfield
Also something many readers noticed, as in, Jane lacked a lot of deference towards “her master”.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
This could be explained by the fact that she, as a demon, has no respect for him as a human (remember, Seb sees humans as grasshoppers & their soul as food). Besides, it’s very hard to be the master of a demon: our!Ciel does a rather good job, considering the wild and mocking beast that is Seb.
So it’s not hard to think that Heathfield didn’t have it in him to correct & control Jane’s behavior towards him (if he even cared to do so in the first place).
Parallels to S1 of the anime
As much as I kinda dislike admitting it (since I’m no fan of the anime), this arc was rather reminiscent of the one with Angela Blanc and Henry Barrymore. As we know, Angela eventually turned out to be a fallen angel and also Ash Landers, the Queen’s aide.
So, while I’m really not sure angels are meant to appear in the manga, Jane being supernatural and having a “male counterpart” (named John) that we already met would be in tune as a parallel. Which leads me to the second part of the post.
Jane = John?
As I linked to above, it is my belief that John Brown was hinted to be supernatural and even possibly a demon (instead of, like, a Shinigami or Angel).
So, if John is indeed a demon, then it is likely to think that his master and holder of the contract is Queen Victoria and, in that case, one can wonder what was the point of “Jane” entering a contract with Baron Heathfield.
Tumblr media
Too many demons can spoil the soup
Unlike Shinigamis who are introduced in almost every arc (we get it, Yana), I’m personally against the possibility that Jane could be a third demon (assuming John is indeed one), because that’d mean introducing a pretty powerful character with literally no agency after Mey & Ran’s investigation, when we are far into the story and the plot is complex enough as it is.
Yeah, storytelling-wise, it doesn’t sound like a good idea.
Besides, if Jane is a demon who only was in a contract with Heathfield, then...
Tumblr media
...one can wonder what he even paid to have her summoned. That’s why this explanation makes not much sense, I find, considering the household seemed to have no idea at all about Jane being possibly supernatural.
Whereas if we’re considering that Jane already was in a contract with someone else, then it gives her a lot of agency + it means that meeting Heathfield and entering a very secondary contract with him would not have needed fare for the crossing (making the process even more simple).
Why the presence of a demon at Heathfield’s manor
If we’re considering that John = Jane, then Jane would have been gathering intel on the blue sect’s operations for her real master: Queen Victoria.
After all, remember that discussion between Victoria and Brown at the end of the Weston arc?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Victoria clearly was interested in UT’s bizarre dolls (because she wants Albert back? Because they’re great war weapons?), so if she’s slightly aware of what’s been going on since ch140 and the real!Ciel’s return, then it’d make sense that she’d send her precious aide to gather info for her.
And what Jane discovered is that the Bizarre Dolls need blood (amongst edited records and episodes) to function properly and long enough.
As for that possible secondary contract that she made with Heathfield: we don’t know what it was about (maybe getting to eat the dead maids’ soul?), but it doesn’t nullify the contract with Victoria, seeing as Seb confirmed multiple contracts are possible.

Why Jane didn’t try to fight for long against Mey and Ran
If she’s a demon, then she theoretically had the strength to escape Mey’s gun and win, but there is a main explanation as to why she gave up: she didn’t want to be found out as a supernatural being.
After all she was facing Ran & Mey and:
Ran showed that she was indeed strong as hell, which makes it interesting to ponder if she’s also a supernatural being or a strength-enhanced human (like Finny)
Mey is Ciel’s staff (and if Jane = John, it’s possible Jane would have known about that fact), so Jane proving to Mey that she was more than human would mean Ciel & Seb would get to hear about it and I’m pretty sure Jane/John wouldn’t want that.
Tumblr media
Another additional possibility is that Jane had gathered enough info, as her original mission requested, and she had no reason to stay longer (except maybe to eat some more souls, as per her contract with Heathfield, who knows).
Ending word: what about the other investigations?
There is a lot at stake here and, as we know, UT definitely needs stopping.
So it’s interesting to think that we possibly saw the Queen’s side gathering info on the situation through Jane, while Ronald (definitely representing the Shinigamis’ Organization) just made his appearance during Bard & Lau’s investigation.
Tumblr media
While Ronald’s arrival is definitely bad news (because it means people are going to die and for all we know Bard might be one of them), it makes one wonder who we’ll meet next if we get to read about Finny & Snake and Ciel & Seb: finally one of the remaining star lords? another government’s spy (France? Since UT went there some time ago)?
We’ll see!
Anyway, sorry for the long post, I hope it managed to convey my thoughts a little more clearly than my old posts. Don’t hesitate if you guys have any question!
