BUT i'm a little over obsessed with this 10 second video of Jeanna de Waal singing All Coming Back to Me Now.

Starry Thoughts

Nights in the desert were cold, but Bakari had long since grown immune to the desert’s chill. He lay on his back in the sand, with only a cloak to cover him, staring at the millions of tiny lights dotting the inky sky with a solemn expression. 

Masika 

Bakari let out a quiet sigh. People would think it ridiculous that he, the wild priest of Set, felt something for another person. Admittedly, Bakari was inclined to agree. 

It was frustrating that she didn't seem to know the effect that she had on him. Even when the other teen wasn't around, she was always at the back of his mind. 

Or maybe she did know and was just teasing him. 

Bakari shook his head, dislodging the thought. 

No. That seemed like something Sabah would do, the perverted witch. While Masika acted mature, she was aloof to things that didn't involve the dead or Anubis. Romance just wasn't something she thought about. 

And yet, he liked her anyway. 

He liked her small smiles, the way her brown eyes lit up when she talked about embalming, and the rare times she laughed that quiet laugh of hers. He especially liked the way she handled her weapons. 

The black-haired teen rubbed a hand over his face, hard. 

She was gonna drive him insane. A considerable feat considering he trained under Set and survived. 

Set. 

The thought of the God he served made Bakari grit his teeth. That bastard had been insufferable the moment he figured out Bakari's little crush.

"I understand your situation, but I do not envy you, whelp." The God had chuckled mockingly, sharp teeth glinting in the fire light of the nearby braziers. "Anubis is going to destroy you if he finds out. Quit while you're ahead." 

The teen huffed, then frowned. He didn't want to admit it, but deep down he knew Set was right. 

Anubis would never agree to him asking for Masika's hand. But would he let that stop him? 

No.

He would continue to stay by her side-be her friend until he proved that he could be more to her. 

Maybe…maybe he could gain enough confidence to confess to her while he was at it. He had held onto this crush for seven years. What's the harm in waiting some more? 

His lips twitched at his thoughts. 

Gods, he was in too deep.

Bakari wasn't a patient guy, yet Masika seemed to make him do things he would never do before. 

Releasing a sigh, he closed his eyes, shifting on the sand a bit before settling. 

All this thinking was making him miss her calming presence. He would finish this mission quickly, then go see her. 

Yeah. That sounded like a good idea. 

Bakari fell asleep with the thoughts of jackals and spells whispered in a low, hypnotic voice in his mind.

Cards Against Mythology Mondays

For my birthday 5 days ago, my glorious pal @heathtrash​ made me the absolute best birthday present that anyone has received in the history of Ever: Cards Against Mythology Mondays. I still can’t quite believe how cool that is, but there you go. Some people are just that rad.

Anyway, the reason I bring this up is because they have also made an online version, so that it can be played remotely during lockdown, and we have been having a little chat to see what is feasible and fun and funky fresh, and I must now ask a question of you:

Would anyone... like to play Cards Against Mythology Mondays with me... possibly this weekend, if I can make the stars align?

The parameters would be as follows:

I would need to limit it to about 7 players, purely because of how the online game best functions, so it would be very much on a first come first serve basis, but if you want to join in the fun but you miss out on joining the game as a player, I think about 20 more people can ‘spectate’ the game, which essentially means you can watch what’s going on and see all the cards being played, but not play any of the cards yourself.

I’m a complete technophobe, so it very possibly won’t be smooth sailing the first time, and I am letting you know this in advance so that you don’t rain down the might of a thousand angry gods when I inevitably, like, end the game by mistake or delete all the cards or blow up the server remotely or something.

there is the possibility of setting up a Discord server so that all the players can do a hello and a chat as they play, and read out the cards and do a lol; it’s not necessary to play the game, but it would probably be quite fun??? So I’ll have a look and see if that’s possible. If I do this, you’re not allowed to call each other buttheads. Not on my watch.

we currently just have the Greco-Roman myths covered but will probably be doing the Norse and Welsh ones at a later date, for MAXIMUM FUN.

this is, as so many things, entirely @heathtrash‘s fault for flailing about Hecate Hardbroom’s ears sticking out because her bun is so tight, and me going off on a tangent about how they would get cold which is why she looks grumpy but then someone gives her some earmuffs which makes her even grumpier but also secretly soft when she realises it’s done out of love and care.

I was tagged by @gabolange, @pellucidthings, @twtd11 and @cliotheproclaimer to list my five favourite pieces of my own content, so here goes!

Her Heart was a Secret Garden and the Walls Were Very High (The Worst Witch, Hecate Hardbroom/Pippa Pentangle, rated M) The fic that took over my life, the longest thing I’ve ever written, and so far still an unfinished WiP. I affectionately refer to it as ‘The Monstrous Backstory’. It was never meant to be half the length it already is, and was basically an exercise in frustration with the plot of TWW s3 and the treatment of Hecate, and the hand-waving of everything that had been previously established about her. I started writing it to get my feelings out, and never stopped; it mostly serves to stitch up all those canon plotholes and inconsistencies with my (and sometimes fanon’s) own explanations. There are still several chapters to go. My ambition is to finish it this year. 

Free Your Mind and the Rest Will Follow (Stargate SG-1, Dan/Jan, rated T)

My favourite of the Daniel/Janet fics I wrote over the years, and the one that got the best reception on LJ (remember LJ?), it’s not every strictly speaking a ‘shippy’ fic, but rather a team-bonding trip from the halcyon days of s1 with some Dan/Jan flirting if you squint. Lots of Wizard of Oz references. Janet Fraiser was the best one, fight me.

Per Annum (Dollhouse, Dominic/DeWitt, rated T)

Also, remember Dollhouse? I have a special fondness for this little fic. It’s probably closest to the way I write now. Once again, it was written because I had Feelings about canon, and wanted to express them. DeWitt deserved better.

The Queen’s Legacy, (Stargate SG-1, Dan/Jan, rated T) 

I have no link to this one because it is lost forever to the dark depths of Yahoo Groups, but I remember it because it was my first ever fic, and you never forget your first. It was a four-chapter Dan/Jan spectacular featuring Goa’uld possession, and, er, some other stuff. It was also responsible for me making connections in a fandom for the first time ever, including with people I’m still in touch with today, and was where I met my best friend of now-20 years. It was probably terrible, but we’ll never know. 

The World Unwraps Itself to You Again and Again  (The Worst Witch, Hecate Hardbroom/Pippa Pentangle, rated T)

I love TWW. I love Wicked. Pippa and Hecate are Glinda and Elphaba. The rest practically wrote itself. Probably the most fun I had writing a fic, because it was utter nonsense and I loved it.
