Mapping the actors
Using the power and interest grid as an actor analysis tool. New post at The Next Wave.

I was running a workshop earlier this month, and we’d used Three Horizons to understand what the preferred futures looked like, and therefore what you might need to do to head towards them from the present.
But although I can’t discuss the workshop here, it was a complex international landscape, with a rich array of actors, from…

A Giacomelli Feathursday
This #Feathursday we feature illustrations from French historian and author Jules Michelet’s The Bird (L’oiseau) with wood engravings by Hector Giacomelli. Originally published in 1856, our English language copy is translated from the eighth French edition, presented with all the original illustrations, and published by T. Nelson and Sons of London in 1868.
Giacomelli was born and raised in Paris, but an illness at the age of 30 forced him to leave the city and he began to draw and paint his new pastoral surroundings during his convalescence. He developed a working relationship with Gustav Doré and contributed ornamentation to Doré’s La Grande Bible de Tours, but Giacomelli remains best known for his illustration of birds.
This book was given as a gift to our department head Max Yela by former senior graduate intern and science editor, Sarah Finn (now Archival Projects Librarian at Milwaukee Public Library) in appreciation of her long employment at UWM Special Collections. In turn, Max donated the book to the collection in honor of Sarah’s many contributions to the department.

Birds Flock Together
These links and data and information like this, are purposely exhaustive, messy and maybe confusing. If you cannot track down the images and their linky’s on this page amidst the noise of the b.s. that comes with it all, then you are likely not real bright in this matter, and thus need more practice at virtually sifting wheat from chaff, or pearls from pigs, or gems amidst the cyber-mud.
