Double Face (Detective Conan)

Hello everyone!!! It's been a long ass time since I've posted some original post! But you know I'm alive thanks to my consent rebloging lol. As the title suggest, this is a Detective Conan fanfic that I've wrote and I wish to share it with you to see what you think! For those who don't know, Detective Conan is about a teenage boy name Shinichi Kudo transforming into a child with the alias Conan Edogawa. I really recommend you all check the manga out if you haven't already!

However, this fic isn't about the main character, but Kogoro Mouri, father of Shinichi's love interest, Ran Mouri. He's portrayed as a lousy detective, but it is canon that he's a skilled marksman. Now how skill? Idk but that's what fanfic are for!

Now this is getting pretty long, so I'll be placing my thoughts and inspiration at the end, hope you enjoyed!

Edit: Almost forgot, if this is too OOC sorry!

Premise:

Conan Edogawa was tagging along for a case with Kogoro Mouri when things got out of control. Now in a hostage situation, Conan was going to help when Kogoro pulled out a gun and wiped the floor with a bullet to spared.

Sometimes Conan forgets that Korogo was a cop in his youth.

Now that Conan thinks about it, Hibari wasn't lying about his luck. It's like the fates themselves are having a blast at tormenting him.

In a dimly lit warehouse, tension hung heavy in the air as he and Kogoro Mouri found themselves ensnared in a perilous hostage situation.

It all started when Conan decided to tagged along with the lousy detective to another case in Osaka that he was working on, and since Ran wasn't home for a girl's night out, Conan was itching to solved a case. But this case was a little different then the other cases that the detective -- mostly Conan -- worked on.

Said case was about a missing woman who was married off to a rich family. The husband wanted Kogoro to find her but the man's mother thinks she staged all of this to get the ransome money and run away with who the old lady suspected to be the missing woman's side lover. Just a typical case, right?

Well, the older woman was right, but what everyone didn't expect was the side lover being a gang leader of a notorious gang in Osaka disguised as a gardener in the manor where the family lived. Seeing that the gigs is up, the leader and his gang took the family and the two detectives as hostages and drived them to a empty warehouse were we are now. With the missing woman laying dead beneath them, having be used as a pawn for the gang's schemes.

The quite ticking of his watch seemed to echo the urgency of the predicament they got themselves into. Conan can hear sirens from outside, the cops are already on the scene; the gang weren't very subtle in kidnapping them. The boy could hear the exchange between the detectives outside and the captors. He could hear the voice of Heizo Hattori, the chief of the Osaka Police Department, on the other side.

Now, Conan was glad that he didn't invite Heiji into the investigation, knowing what he knows now, the gang members would certainly put two and two together about Heiji Hattori. Conan wouldn't want to put him in that sort of danger, even if Heiji could take care of himself.

Although a strategist, Conan felt the weight of the situation pressing upon him. He can't seem to find a way to get everyone to safety without any bloodshed. There's at least five gang members acting as guards around them and two at the entrance; one of them strangely has an empty gun holder that he somehow doesn't seemed to notice.

All of them are at the middle of the warehouse, seating on chairs. Some of the more restless hostages, like the old lady, were tied with ropes but most are freed from binding, but are too sacred to do anything; both he and Kogoro were not tied. There are boxes at the back of the warehouse, but it's too far away for any of them to go without immediately getting spotted.

Even if they can, Conan can't risked it, and as the shouting outside get louder, the Detective of The East was racing against time to find a solution before they all ended up like the poor woman underneath their feets. The captors were growing increasingly agitated, and the hostages were trembling in fear. One gang member eventually put a gun on the dead woman's husband's head, much to the horror of the hostages, having been fed up with all the waiting.

In a desperate bid to buy time, Conan discreetly signaled to Kogoro, who was beside him, hoping to convey a plan with him without alerting the perpetrators. He may be lazy, but Conan knows Kogoro is just smart enough to created a distraction.

However, much to Conan's surprise, Kogoro's usually drowsy eyes gleamed with a resolute focus. Now that he thought about it, the little detective never heard anything from the lazy detective this whole time during the ride here.

Both of their eyes met; Kogoro bends down a little, making sure no one notice but him and said, "Get them to safety."

In one swift, unexpected motion, Kogoro reached into his coat and pulled out a concealed handgun. The metallic click as he loaded a cilp into the gun resonated through the warehouse, silencing the room.

Time seemed to freeze as the man that Conan once knew, with a calm demeanor that defied his typical boisterouness, took aim with precision. A single shot echoed, hitting a lamp perilously close above one of the guard at the entrence and raining down glass shards to said guard.

One hit his eye and he screams.

The room erupted in chaos as Kogoro's unexpected display of marksmanship left everyone stunned. Stunned enough that the once lazy detective kicked down the gang member that was holding a gun on the husband's head. With another swift kick, he took down another trying to shoot at him.

Conan, momentarily taken aback, shakes off his shock and focus on taking the hostages to the boxes for cover. It's not ideal, but with bullets flying by, it's better to be here then the open.

Getting the granny out of her binds, all of them took shelter behind the boxes. With a peak, Conan could see the cold determination behind Kogoro's eyes as he mercilessly took down eche and every one of the guard with eased. The once sluggish detective had unleashed a dormant expertise that transformed the dire situation into their favour. As the hostage-takers were struggling to even get a shot on him, Kogoro maintained his unwavering composure. Conan took covered as a stray bullet passed by. Screams of pain echoed through the walls, then silence.

After everything became quite, Conan and the others were left speechless as they peek their heads out to look at the aftermath.

Kogoro was left standing on the spot where they used to be, gun still in hand, with all seven bodies of the the captors on the floor. They're mostly alive, with some groaning in pain, but none are bleading much, meaning Kogoro didn't directly shoot at them. The detective himself was unharmed; not a single strach on him at all. In fact, the guy didn't even break a sweat!

Looking at his face, Kogoro's face was expressionless; eyes dulled and cold, like he's not in his right mind right now. He didn't hit his head, did he?

Before Conan can called Kogoro out, the doors to the warehouse swung open. But instead of the cops like Conan had hoped, it was the gang leader; Heiji Hattori in his right arm, with a gun on the other, pointing straight at his head.

Shit, he should have known Heiji would get himself involved.

"Wha- You! What have you done with my men?!" The gang leader was enraged, with cops behind them, pointing their guns at him, and a very pissed off chief of the Osaka Police Department ready to strike, he's been pushed to a tight corner. Both of his commanders were right besides him, guns drawn, ready to strike as well.

Conan knows that one wrong move on both sides would make Heiji's head paint the walls.

It was tensed, both parties were waiting on an order; Except Kogoro Mouri. Composed and silent, he look at the gang leader straight in the eyes, fearless at the man. Conan couldn't see Kogoro's face as turned his back on the hostages, but the little detective an clearly see the red face of the gang leader and the uncertain looks of his commanders. The policemen were uneasy with the situation as well. Heizo looks ready to attack, but his partner, Ginshiro Toyama, stops him. Heiji looks uncomfortable, looking directly towards Conan liked a puppy looking for answers, before a gunshot rang out.

Before anyone could react, the ringleader was punched right in the face by Kogoro, knocking both Heiji out of his grasps and himself. With inhuman speed, Kogoro took aim and shot at one of the commander's hand, making him dropped his gun before being kicked at the stomach and grabbing him by the shirt before literally throwing the man at the other commander.

In less then a minute, Kogoro had wiped the floor with swift and persistence that everyone was left baffled.

Kogoro, eyeing the down leader, rised the gun he was holding. This alarmed Conan and the leading investigators; Ginshiro stepped forward, being the closest, going into position if needed. Conan ran towards the red and blue lights, but not before checking on Heiji to see if he was okay.

To their relief, Kogoro instead unclipped the gun. Emptying the clip, only a single bullet fell out; He had almost emptied out the cilp.

Heizo Hattori and Kogoro Mouri locked eyes with each other for a moment, before the chief turned away and barked orders to the officers. As if breaking a trance, the officers scramble to move and followed the orders given. Ginshiro took the gun from Kogoro's hands before adding as evidence and leaving to helped with the hostages.

With the immediate threat now neutralized, Conan and Kogoro coordinated with the authorities to secure the scene and apprehend the criminals. Conan knows that Kogoro was out of it, having had an adrenaline-fueled ordeal just a half an hour ago; finally tiredness seems to seeped in the old detective's body.

Maybe that's why Heiji invinted them to stay at his place for the night -- and totally not because he was a bit gulity for letting things get out of hand -- and his father even agreed with it, telling them that he'll let some officers to grabbed their stuff from the manor that they were staying at.

Now in the car with the Heiji and Conan in the backseat and the two adults at the front, having done with the investigation, the young Osaka asked a question that was currently plaguing the young detective's mind, "Hey old man, when did ya get so good with guns? Never seen ya talked about it before."

Kogoro was in the passenger's seat, head against the window as he sighed, as if knowing what's about to happened, "I was in the police force, you know."

"Yeah, but I never seen skills like you do before, what gives?"

"... I was the top of my class, in the force. Once landing every single shot in the middle during training."

"You must be really lucky that time," They could barely heard the mumbled from the tired man, "What was that?"

"... It wasn't once... It was every shooting training," The car went into a stop, having stopped at a traffic light. Heizo Hattori side eye the man besides him; the boys at the back were bugging their eyes out, "Every- Wait, you're telling me ya never missed a shot? Like ever??"

"Well, if you don't count the time that a friend of mine distracted me and made me miss my shot, then yeah, I've never missed once."

"Wait," Conan was now intrested, "Were you at the top of every class?"

"Not everything, but most of the physically ones, yeah, I was at top most of the time," The boys were ecstatic, this was the first time the man talked about his past in the force. As the car starts moving again, the boys started to asks more questions, and Kogoro was more then happy to answered them. Until one of them asked why he'd quit. Suddenly, the once animated Kogoro became deadly silent, and the boys knew they screwed up.

Heizo, who was listening in asked what's wrong; Kogoro just gave a straind smile to him before speaking up.

"It's... It's a long story, something I'm not comfortable talking about," He said. Conan automatically asked, "Is it about Ran-neesan?" He was swiftly hit in the head by Heiji, "Now's not times for ya interrogation, Kudo," The Osaka quietly hissed. But Kogoro laughed, grabbing the two youngsters' attention.

"No, it isn't about Ran, maybe," Kogoro placed his head against the window again, "It's one of many reason why I left, but not the main one, and no, It's definitely not about Eri either," He added, ending the conversation then and there.

Both detectives of east and west decide not to pushed it any further, if the glaring from Heiji's father were anything to go by, -- 'As if he wasn't interested in it too,' Heiji huffed -- but the mood wasn't all lost. They have some small talk from time to time. Even so, their interests peaked; They're detectives, after all, and after everything that has happened, both boys wanted to know about Kogoro's past achievements that made into the man they saw hours ago; from a jolly man to a cold and calculating one in the blink of an eye.

And Kogoro knew this very well, as he continues to listen in. It's only a matter of time before they do. All he's asking is that they won't make a fuss about it.

The last thing he needs is to be put on the papers again for that.

And that's it folks! I hope you like it!! You know, I was inspired by a fic I've read in the past at ao3. The story was about Kogoro using Akai's (one of the supporting characters -- he's an FBI agent) shoulder to shoot with a rifle hidden in a bouquet of flowers. I thought it was so cool at the time and made me fall in love with the character! Sadly, that's all I remember, but no matter what I've tried, I can't seem to find it anywhere! I don't even remember the name, which suck! If you know what I'm talking about, pls give a link to it, I really wanna read it again!

List of cops that do exist at this point: Megure. Superintendent Matsumoto. Heizo Hattori. One Yokomizo brother. And YAMAMURA.

Related note, how did the also underage Hattori get his hands on alcohol to use as a gift to kogoro?

Oh well what's one more thing to add to his already long list of questionable choices? Lmao

Heiji using paikaru as a remedy for sickness will always remain comedy gold. I have no idea how he got a hold of it, I don't remember if it's mentioned. But I like to think that it was just around his house, maybe it was Heizo's or something, and he just- took it. "I need a present for when I get to Tokyo" I want to think that it was a present for Kogoro too, because he just appeared out of nowhere and bothered them with Shinichi's search.

But did he plan to go to their house from the very beginning then...? or was it just something that came up after doing some investigating and finding out Ran was Shinichi's "girlfriend" and someone he could ask her questions about his location? Because if that's the case then who was the alcohol really for? It couldn't have been Kogoro because he didn't know beforehand that he would visit him. So.... For Shinichi? Lmao Did he plan on celebrating together with him when he found him?

I don't know why but I can see that

I just reached the heiji in the vampire mansion case and like 5 minutes in I can already tell inspector Otaki doesn't get paid nearly enough to deal with Heiji Hattori AND Heizo Hattori.

The poor lad got a call off his boss late at night saying 'do you believe they exist? Vampires?' (atleast, according to the subtitles I read, official translation may be a bit different) and was promptly sent to the mansion rumoured to house a vampire. I know it's not really a vampire because this is Conan but that's besides the point. i don't care how much inspector otaki gets paid, it's not enough for what he does. We need to get this poor boy a raise

LMAO EXACTLY. And we thought Megure had it bad with Conan and Kogoro. Somebody give this man a serious raise cause one Hattori is more enough to handle.

In Agasa’s house with Conan.

Conan: Good morning Hakase…(Yawn)

Agasa: Oh! Shinichi, good morning.

Conan: Where’s Haibara?

Agasa: Ai-kun left early, she said she was going to buy the new release purse.

Conan: Oh, is that so.

Conan’s phone rang.

Conan: Who is this, early in the morning (With an irritating face)

Heiji: Kudo! I’ve got a lead on them.

Conan:???

Heiji: That Black Organization of your’s

Haibara arrived and coincidentally heard Heiji’s call.

Conan: WHAT? Are you sure?

Heiji: What do you think of me? Boke!

Conan: Baro! Then?

Heiji: Well, yesterday, I received a call from my client. Name: Sasaki Miyamoto, an employee from a big company in Beika Street. At first it was weird, because he lives near that old man’s agency. Instead of calling me, why did he not just go in there? That’s what I thought at first. Maybe I was better after all (With a smirk)

Conan: Baro! Maybe he wasn’t able to meet Ojisan at that time, though It couldn’t be helped, since that Oyaji always went to bars or pachinko.

Heiji: The problem is that every night there is someone always watching Sasaki-san, like a stalker. And the most interesting thing he said is that they wore black clothes from head to toe. Kudo isn’t I lucky? You see, we already made a pla—

Haibara suddenly butt in and warns him.

Haibara: That’s dangerous! Stop that! If you don’t want your—

Heiji: Sorry’, we’re already in the middle of the plan, so don’t worry. Kudo, I will contact you later, If I’ve got some new information.

Conan: Hey! Hattori!

The call ends

Heiji in a warehouse, following Sasaki inside. Suddenly a black Porsche arrived and two men got out of the car. On the right side, a tall man with a slim build, pale skin, ruthless black eye, with long silver hair. On the left side, a muscular man with a wide chin and looks like a mafia. And inside the car, a fairly tall woman with a slender build, pale skin, light blue eyes and long silver hair. With a convoy sport car with white stripe design.

Heiji:: (This is bad ) (Hiding behind a box in a dark corner of the warehouse)

Outside Agasa’s house

Genta: Why is no one answering?

Mitsuhiko: This is weird.

Ayumi: Maybe they are in Ran-onee san's house.

Genta: Detective Boys, let’s go!

In the warehouse

Sasaki: I did my job, please…let me and my family go…

Gin: Where is the rat?

Sasaki: He is hiding in this warehouse…

Vodka: Aniki…

Gin: You are good to go. (Giving a go sign to the people who are inside the sports car)

Chianti: Ok (With a smirk in the face)

Sasaki was shot in the head

Chianti: That was easy

Korn: Next time, I want the head. (Mumbling)

Heiji quivers, and sweats a lot after hearing that it was all a trap.

Gin: Now, let the rat hunt begin (Reloading his gun)

Chianti and Korn positioned themselves in the entrance, waiting for the rat (Heiji) to come out. Gin and Vodka, surrounded every corner with a gun.

Heiji: (This is bad)

When Heiji had nowhere to escape, he threw a coin in the opposite direction and started running towards a small light in the corner for an escape. However, Gin notices that It was all a trap, to divert their attention, and sees the shadow of Heiji escaping.

After tracking, Heiji’s phone, Agasa, Conan, and Haibara, heard the gunshots in a warehouse.

Conan: Hakase, go in the opposite direction and park your car inside a garage or building. Hurry!

Haibara: Where are you going? It's dangerous! Kudo-kun!

Conan runs towards the warehouse and Agasa flees in the opposite direction to hide, with Haibara worried.

Heiji was able to escape, however, behind the warehouse was only a port awaiting him. Nowhere to hide and run, Heiji holds the charm Kazuha gave him firmly.

Gin: You have nowhere to escape (With a smirk)

Vermouth was surprised after she saw Conan’s friend Hattori, the son of the chief Osaka Department Hattori Heizo. Vermouth interrupted them.

Vermouth: Wait, Gi–-

Without any further ado, Gin shot Heiji in the right arm, where Heiji was holding the phone with the charm. Heiji groaned due to the pain.

Gin: What’s the problem Vermouth?

Vermouth: Gin!! (With a deadly look in her face)

Gin: Don’t tell me, this rat is also your favorite?

Chianti: You b****, I was right after all! Gin, this woman was behind all of this! (With a loud voice)

Gin: Wait, Chianti. (With a doubtful and deadly look) What’s your relationship with this boy? Tell me, Vermouth. (Pointing his gun to Heiji’s head)

As when the loud gunshots stopped, Conan was feeling uneasy. He saw Heiji groaning due to the shot in his right arm. When Conan was running towards Heiji, he heard a familiar voice coming out from the same direction.

Vermouth: He is the friend of my friend, let’s say, closest friend of my friend. (Worried)

Gin: Friend, huh… (Gin smirked)

Gin orders Vodka to get his two favorite guns in the trunk.

Vermouth: What are you doing? Gin!?

Gin: Vermouth I have a lot of sources. One of them is in Osaka working in the police department. I heard that one of the chief police officer’s son is fond of investigating people who wore black clothes.

Vermouth: So, don’t tell me…

Gin: Yes, this is all my plan, in order to catch the rat, or let’s say the fox detective who is always trying to investigate us.

Vermouth: Fox detective?

Gin: So don’t know that this boy tried to get Vodka’s fingerprint through putting a tape in the cd. The software program Itakura made. And also, the one who shot me with a tranquilizer when I was trying to kill Sherry.

Vodka: Is that true aniki? Impossible!

Gin: Don’t worry. Now tell me where the traitor “Sherry”? (Pointing his favorite gun in Heiji’s head)

Heiji: I don’t know what you are talking about.. (With a smirk)

Gin’s face darken. Before Gin shoots, Conan without any hesitation inflates a ball and kick it towards Gin’s gun. They were all stunned that a ball came out from nowhere. Conan came out (glowing glasses)

Conan: I am Edogawa Conan, a detective.

Vermouth was dumbfounded

Heiji was shocked after he saw Conan come out boldly.

Gin notices that this kid always appears anywhere when there is a case, especially in that time when they tried to kill Detective Mouri.

Heiji: Boke! What are you doing here!? ( In pain) Don’t mind him, he is from our neighborhood always following me, playing detective.

Chianti: Hey! Kid go to back to your mama and papa if you don’t wan–

Gin: Chianti (With a cold and deadly look)

Chianti stopped after seeing Gin’s look.

Gin: Brat, what relationship do you have with this boy? (With a doubtful look and cold look)

Heiji: Stop it! Go back you idio–

Conan: Stop it Hattori…They already got you.

Gin: Vodka, silenced him.

Vodka: Ok aniki

Conan: Wait! Gin…

Gin was surprised

Gin: How did you know my code name?

Conan: As a detective it is easy, anyway, I will tell you an interesting story, however, let my friend go.

Gin: (Laughed after hearing what Conan said) Deal

Gin ordered Vodka to let Heiji go. Heiji hesitated, however, Chianti was aiming at Heiji, so Heiji ran while evading every bullet as possible. Fornutaley Heiji was able to escape and Agasa and Haibara tended to him immediately.

Haibara: Where is Kudo? (Worried)

However, Heiji didn’t not respond, knowing that Haibara would find any means to protect Kudo from harm.

Heiji: Gin, Vodka, Vermouth, Chianti, and Korn are there. (In pain)

Haibara trembles after hearing their names.

In Detective Mouri Agency

Ran: Oh! Mina, why are you all here?

Ayumi: Is Conan and Haibara here?

Mitsuhiko: We chime Professor Hakase’s gate but no one responds.

Ran: That’s weird

Genta: Maybe they were really involved in a case again! (Loud voice)

Koguro: (Watching Okino Yuko-chan’s drama while drinking a beer)

Ran: Otousan! Did you know where Conan went earlier?

Koguro: Leave that brat alone, I’m busy right now (Crying while mumbling Okino Yuko’s name)

Ayumi: It's okay Ran-oneesan, we will wait for Conan here.

Ran: Okay, I will make some juice.

In the warehouse

Gin: Now, tell me this interesting of your’s

Conan: “Back in the Tropical Land, a highschool teenager boy was with his girlfriend, the boy was once a popular detective high school student who always solved any difficult cases. However, on that day, the boy heard a dangerous deal. Without knowing, one of the partners was behind him, struck him in the head, and he fell unconscious. After knowing his identity, the one who struck him used a newly invented drug and they forced him to drink it, since the newly invented drug was defective, so they thought he died. But unfortunately, the once popular detective high school student turned into a small boy and unable to solved cases without raising anyone’s suspicious”

They were dumbfounded, especially Gin and Vodka.

Vodka: Impossible! Aniki! This boy…

Gin: I know what you are saying Vodka, calm down. (Gin’s eyes widen in excitement knowing that everything was all due to this boy)

Chianti and Korn: Huh? Is this some kind of fairy tale story? Vermout–

After seeing Vermouth’s twisted expression, Chianti become suspicious.

Vermouth: (Silver bullet-kun) Why?..

Conan: Vermouth, after all only one truth prevails (With a sad smile)

Gin laughs and grabs Conan

Gin: Long time no see, Kudo Shinichi

Conan: Its been a while Gin..

Vodka: Yes! It really was him! That detective boy, I couldn’t believe it..

Gin drags Conan ruthlessly, unexpectedly Vermouth, pulls out a gun and point it to Chianti, who is near the porsche..

Chianti: What are you doi–

Vermouth: Quiet Chianti (With a cold and deadly look) Hand me the boy, Gin.

Gin: Why would I? (With a smirk) Gin shoots Chianti unables Vermouth to use Chianti as a shield.

Gin handed Conan to Vodka and ordered him to get the machine gun.

Vermouth was at a disadvantage knowing how dangerous Gin is.

Inside the beetle with Agasa, Haibara, and Heiji.

Haibara: Let me go!

Heiji: You will only be a burden to Kudo…

Agasa: I will call a police (Worried)

In metropolitan police department

Takagi: This is the Police Department, what can I do–

Agasa: Is this Takagi-kun? (Shaky voice)

Takagi: Oh! Agasa-san, what can I help you–

Heiji suddenly grabbed the phone this time..

Heiji: Please… (Groaning in pain)

Takagi: Ok, tell me your location…

Chianti: F***!!, Gin!!! (In pain after being shot in the leg)

Mitsuhiko: They are late

Ayumi: Where could they be

Loud sirens pass by

Genta: There were a lot of patrol cars passing by, I think there is something happening near…

Ran: Why do I feel uneasy… (While reading a book inside the room)

In the warehouse

Vermouth drags Chianti inside the car (porsche) as a hostage and shield. Vodka fires the machine gun, but Vermouth was able to evade it, using Porsche's side door. Vermouth drove the Porsche and accelerated the car towards Vodka where Conan was. Vodka was hit by a car, but when Vermouth nearly got Conan, Gin was already pointing a gun at her.

Gin: Another traitor..

Vermouth was able to get Conan, however, Vermouth wasn’t able to evade this time. Conan protected Vermouth and was shot two bullets in the body, after that Vermouth escaped using the porsche.

Inside the beetle with Agasa, Haibara, and Heiji

Haibara: Hakase, can you get the medical kit in the back? (Panic voice)

Agase: Ai-kun aren’t you good at treating wounds? (Doubt)

Haibara: Hakase, please… ( Agasa went to the back to get the medicine)

Haibara suddenly steps on the gas and accelerates towards the warehouse where Conan is. They were startled upon seeing Haibara drive the beetle suddenly. When they arrived, only traces of blood were found.

Haibara: Kudo? Kudo-kun?

Heiji: Kudo? Where are you? We already called the police…

Agasa: Shinichi? This is shinichi’s bow neck tie voice changer…(Shakey and unclear voice)

Haibara cried, when the police came, they were too late, there was no one in the warehouse.

Vermouth: Silver bullet! Don’t die! (While driving)

Conan was in pain while covering his wound, but the wound was so severe, that even Vermouth was in panic.

Chianti: Hahahah, I don’t know what’s happening, but that serves you right! (In a loud voice)

Vermouth was furious, so she decided to toss Chianti in the middle of the busy highway, hoping she would be run over by a truck.

Vermouth: Don’t worry I will find a hospital…

Without knowing what would happen, Vermouth rushed to the nearest hospital to treat Conan immediately. When Vermouth came out of the car, while holding Conan she was shot by Korn in the stomach unexpectedly. Vermouth put Conan back inside the car, and they escaped quickly. But Gin was driving the sports car, and Korn was the one shooting, so Vermouth left no choice but to go in a traffic jam. Though they were able to get away from them, Conan’s consciousness is slowly fading, while waiting for the green light.

Vermouth: Silver bullet! (Trying to do anything to cover Conan’s wound)

Vermouth cries, while watching Conan slowly die.

When the green light was up, Vermouth accelerated but Korn shot the tires, unable for the Porsche to run. Korn tried to shoot Conan at any means, but Vermouth protected Conan, Gin was engraged, after knowing that Vermouth protected the boy. So Gin decided to go himself rather than waiting for Korn to shoot the boy.

People nearby were stunned, and panicked when they heard the gunshots. Coincidentally Nichirin TV crew was near the site broadcasting live for the company’s opening celebration. And there was Yumi, the patrol car police, watching the flow of traffic. When Nichirin TV crew and the police officer notices that the porsche is in the middle of the traffic, and there is something wrong with it. They immediately take precautions and check the car, making Gin and Korn pull back, because they don’t want their existence to be known.

In Detective Mouri’s Agency

(Knock Knock)

Sonoko: Ran!!

Ran: Oh! Sonoko! What brings you here?

Sonoko: Well, you see this kind Sonoko-sama has come to tell you that, I’ve got a reservation for a buffet! The restaurant is near here, and It should be family, but my family is busy, so I decided to invite you and your Dad.

Detective Boys: How about us? (Appeared suddenly)

Sonoko: No problem! Your Sonoko-sama is kind and pretty!

In the traffic site

Nichirin TV crew: What’s with that car?

Nichirin TV crew (1): Filmed it, maybe it will become big news for today!

President of the company: Hey! Wait!

People: What’s with that car…

Yumi: Wait! Don’t go near (While making her way through the crowd)

Yumi examined the car, when she saw what’s inside, her eyes widened in disbelief and terror. She saw a blonde bathe in her own blood while embracing a boy.

Yumi: Hey! Hey!... Help me open the door! (Asking the people near the site)

Nichirin TV crew: This is horrible…hey! Are you alright? (When they tried to move her arm)

Yumi: AHHH!...Co-conan-kun!!!... He is wounded…Call an ambulance!! HURRY!!!

Near the sight with ran and others

Ayumi: What’s happening there?

Mitsuhiko: There’s a lot of people gathering there..

Genta: Maybe they sell unagi eel!

Koguro: Let’s have a look

Ran: (I have a bad feeling about this…)

Sonoko: Let’s go Ran!

Koguro: I am Mouri Koguro, what’s happening there? (Asking people near the sight)

Person (1): A-a woman and a kid are severely wounded…

Person passing by: I think they are dead in that state…

In the crowd, the NIchirin TV crew was broadcasting the accident live…

Nichirin TV reporter: Today, 1:33 pm in the afternoon, an accident happened here. Beika street, fifth block, a blonde woman and a little boy is severely wounded with gunshots–

In the warehouse

Sato: Oh! Yumi! Wha—

Yumi: Sato!! Co-conan-kun is… (Crying and in panic)

Sato: What happened? Yumi!

Yumi: Conan-kun is dead!!...

Sato: Ha!? What are you saying?

Yumi: Sato!! Bring Megure here!! Location, Beika street, fifth block. HURRY!!!

Sato: Ok! Wait for us! Inspector Megure, there is an urgent matter, and Yumi wants us to go to Beika street, fifth block.

Haibara: What did she say? Tell me..

Sato: Something happened to Conan-kun… (Sad voice)

Haibara: Hakase!!!

In the site with Ran and others

Koguro: Make way for Detective Mouri Koguro! Now let me see…This car is in terrible condition, wait, this a machine gun, these scrapes and holes are caused by a machine gun..(WIth a dignified look in the face) Make way!..

Koguro: Where are the victims?...

Person: In here!...

Before Koguro could say another word, after seeing Conan bathe in Vermouth’s blood, his eyes widened in shock. He suddenly calls Conan’s name…

Koguro: Hey! Brat! Conan! Conan!!...Open your eyes! Conan!

Koguro saw the blood flowing non stop from Conan’s gunshot. After seeing Conan’s state, Koguro: Calls an ambulance!!! (Shouts loudly)

Koguro: Hey!... I said ambulance!!! (Shout angrily to all the people near the site)

Ran and Sonoko, and the Detective Boys were surprised upon hearing his shout angrily.

Ran: Hey!.. Dad, why are you shouting?

Koguro: Don’t come near here! Ran! (Terrified face)

Ayumi: AHHHH!!!...Co-conan-kun, conan-kun!!! (Cried out after seeing Conan’s state)

Mitsuhiko: A-ayumi, why are you cryin—...(Dumbfounded after seeing his friend)

Ran: What are you so worked up about?....

When Ran saw Conan, her world suddenly changed, her eyes suddenly filled with tears, making her tremble in fear,fear of not being able to see Conan again…After that she suddenly passed out.

The Police arrived and Haibara witnessed the scene of Conan dying

Haibara: Kudo!!!... Hey!!..Wake up!!...Kudo-kun!!...

After that, the ambulance arrived, they took Vermouth and Conan.

In the operation room

Some of them cried, and some were terrified. The police, the FBI and even the National Police Agency Security Bureau Security Planning are there.

Koguro: Why is this happening?...(Sad and angry look)

Ayumi: Why? Why Conan-kun?

Heiji and Haibara arrived

Heiji: Kudo-kun! It's all my fault..if only..I didn’t go..

Haibara: It's not your fault, it's all my fault..if only I didn’t betray the organization…if only I didn’t go to his house…if only I didn’t meddle with his life…(Crying)

Everyone was silent after hearing their words, except to those who already knew.

The operation continued, two bullets were obtained from Conan’s body.

But before they start their operation to get the bullets from vermouth’s body. Vermouth spoke in a low and dying voice.

Vermouth: “We… can be both… God and the …Devil. Since …we are trying… to raise the …dead against the …stream of time.” Sherry…(Unclear voice)

Vermouth puts his hand on the pocket, trying to get something out of her pocket.

Everyone was watching Vermouth handing out a pill.

Vermouth:”Sherry…save our silver bullet-kun…”

Sherry rushed inside the operating room, and snatched the pill without any hesitation.

Instead of stopping Haibara, all they do is to watch what is happening.

Haibara: Kudo-kun! Drink this!

Instead of hoping for Conan’s recovery, the results were unexpectedly opposite, Conan’s heartbeat became slow, and the force of his life stopped in a linear line.

Haibara’s expression twisted as if she's going to kill someone. She grabbed the scalpel and tried to stab Vermouth, however, the detective boys stopped him, preventing her from killing someone.

Haibara: You!...I will k*** you!...Wasn’t my parents not enough!?...wasn’t my sister not enough!?..

After that, she cried non stop like a first born baby.

After the operation, doctor’s declared death. They cry, and cry, until there is no last drop of tears coming out.

In a room where everyone gathered

After passing out, Ran went to the room where everyone was.

Ran: Dad, how’s Conan-kun?

Koguro: Ran…Don’t be sad…

Ran: No!...no!...(Crying)

Yusako and Yukiko arrived

Yukiko: Shin-chan!!!...Why did you leave us!?...Why did you leave Ran-chan!? (crying)

Yusako: Shinichi…You’ve done your best, son. (sorrowful look)

Heiji: Sorry, I wasn’t able to protect him…(feeling frustrated)

Haibara: Inspector Megure, please arrest me, I killed a lot of people in the past. They even called me “Ice Queen” for ruthlessly killing people. And earlier, I tried to kill Vermouth–

“Smack”

Haibara: What are you doing Hakase!?

Agasa: It's not your fault Ai-kun, did you forget that Shinichi welcomed you as part of our family.

Haibara: But!

Suddenly Ran interrupted.

Ran: Shinichi?...Where is Shinichi?...What happened to him?

Haibara: You still haven’t noticed!?...That boy is Shinichi!...

Everyone was shocked upon hearing what Haibara said.

Haibara: I said Edogawa-kun is Shinichi!

Mitsuhiko: What are you talking about, Haibara-san? Shinichi-san is grown-up…

While they were talking, Ran suddenly ran towards Conan’s body, and hugged him

Ran: So I was right…after all these years watching you if you were really Shinichi…I was stupid

Ran cried regretting not being able to notice such a thing.

Haibara: I’m from a deadly organization, I am their researcher and also a scientist. My job is to finish what my parents did in the past, that is creating a drug. Kudo-kun is one of them, instead of a test subject, Kudo was forced to drink the drug, not knowing the side effects. They thought he was dead, however, they didn’t know. He was watching all their movements from a far, like an innocent kid, acting like he knew nothing.

Heiji: In order to hide the fact that he is alive, only few knew his identity, and that was me, this girl, hakase, and his parents.

Sera and Eisuke: Did you forget me? (being confused)

Sera: I knew from the start that this boy is Shinichi Kudo, because I met him in the past…

Eisuke: Well, for me, it was when I was with Detective Mouri, I already knew and suspected him whenever he was around, and when I was trying to confess my feelings to Ran-san, I was stopped by Conan-kun, saying,”You can't .” That’s how I was able to figure out his Identity.

Koguro and Megure didn’t believe it at first, but just like Shinichi say, “Only one truth prevails”

Not long after, Subaru arrived with the FBI.

Subaru/Akai: He really kicks the bucket. Shiho, did Vermouth give you something? Like a pill.

Haibara: How did you know my name!?...

Subaru/Akai: I was the lover of your sister, so it's a long story. Did you give the pill to the boy? (With dark aura)

Haibara: Y-yes… (Doubtful look)

Subaru/Akai: (He suddenly takes off the voice changer) Oh! Sorry, this is my genuine voice. That was the boy’s order to mask my voice so that I can hide my identity too.

Amuro: Shuichi Akai!...Edogawa Conan, no, Shinichi Kudo’s private eye. I was wrong in infiltrating the Kudo’s residence, I did not know that my long lost enemy would be in that house, living as a graduate student.

Akai: Even I was impressed, all the events happening were all behind that boy’s plot.

Mitsuhiko: What are you saying?

Amuro: Conan-kun is your Shinichi-nisan and Ran’s boyfriend

Ayumi: So, Conan-kun was just lying all the time?

Haibara: It was to protect his friends, and family.

In an unexpected moment, while everyone was busy, Conan was brought back to life. Conan saw Ran beside him crying while sleeping.

Conan: Sorry Ran, and thank you for waiting

Conan went to the room where everyone was, and they didn’t believe it. The boy who died, entered the room, bewildered.

Conan: What’s with that look? Did you all see a ghost?

Everyone was happy and relieved that Conan is still alive.

Conan: Hehe, I am done for especially Ran. >.<’

Howdy hey Goop! I had a funny observation with the episode Heiji first appears in (episode 48 I believe.) specifically with the english FUNimation dub.

While he talks about wanting to meet Kudo/always compared to him, he says "I want to see if the great Jimmy (Shinichi) Kudo is talented enough to be in my league, if he is he'll be the first!"

I wonder what he meant by that? Like, as in rivalry, or as in friends? I'd love to hear your interpretation on this, you always have such intriguing opinions and interpretations on things!

My response here will actually be fairly heavy and discuss abuse, so please proceed with caution. There will also be minor spoilers for Episode 263.

To really delve into this question, I feel like I have to start by saying that the view I have of Heiji is that of an incredibly insecure person who struggles immensely with feelings of inferiority. No truly confident person would (assumedly) hop on a plane to go "prove" that they're better than a peer in their field. But that's exactly what Heiji does.

And his self-doubt is, sadly, sensical. His father Heizo is Osaka's Chief of Police, who, as Ran states in the man's first appearance (Episode 77), "[is] always on TV whenever something happens in Osaka." Heizo is presented as a huge, well-respected public figure, and that's got to be a lot for Heiji to live up to. Even when Kazuha's father attempts to be encouraging after Heiji is insulted (more on that later), his words only help pile on the pressure (Episode 263):

Ginshiro Toyama: He's the spitting image of you when you were younger, Heizou. Who knows what he'll grow into?

So, it's no wonder that Heiji is so absolutely desperate to prove himself. He's got big shoes to fill, that he's seemingly expected to fill, and, more than that, every interaction I've seen between him and his father is uncomfortably negative. Despite being a capable, experienced, and well-renowned detective of his own, Heizo constantly dismisses his son and his abilities, only ever complimenting Heiji when it's paired with a stinging barb. The first time you ever see the two on screen together (Episode 77), I'm not sure if Heizo comes off worse in the original Japanese script (top) or in FUNimation's English localization (bottom):

Heizo (Japanese script): He's still green, but he's got good intuition.

Heizo (FUNimation English dub script): But don't be deceived by his appearance. He's actually a whole lot smarter than he looks.

...well, in retrospect, maybe it's obvious that the English dub makes it so much worse.

But the point is, Heizo isn't portrayed as an especially supportive father. As far as I've watched, he never once says that he's proud of Heiji, and his insults only grow to be more degrading after this initial snapshot of their relationship. When even Kogoro applauds Heiji's work in Episode 263, Heizo can only belittle him:

Kogoro: Like father, like son! He solved that case in record time.

Heizo: No, this dull-witted son of mine just likes to play detective sometimes. He's got a long way to go to catch up to you, Mouri.

Later in the episode, Heizo even physically assaults Heiji, going so far as to draw blood, in front of a crowd of people:

Heiji: Dad...

And as if that wasn't enough, he verbally assaults Heiji, too, flinging insult after insult at him (and this is really only a small sampling):

Heizo: He's just getting in the way! The spoiled brat let all this nonsense about "high school detectives" go to his head.

I know I've kind of been dancing around the original question here, but I think this background is crucial. While it might be argued that Heizo is simply trying to keep his son humble through his brand of parenting, I feel like his behavior and treatment of Heiji has instead helped nurture something very sad: a boy who gallivants around acting the exact opposite of humble to conceal the fact that he's dangerously insecure.

After all, as I said before, no truly confident person would (assumedly) hop on a plane to go "prove" that they're better than somebody else. Why would they?

So, when Heiji says that he wants to "[confirm] whether or not the great Jimmy [Shinichi] Kudo is talented enough to be in [his] league" in FUNimation's English dub of Episode 48, or that he "[wants to] see if Kudo Shinichi's really worthy of being compared to [him]" in the original Japanese script...

Heiji: I wanna see if Kudo Shinichi's really worthy of being compared to me.

I see a boy so desperately trying to convince himself that he is good at what he does. If he can best Shinichi—the person he's compared so much to in FUNimation's dub that he's even robbed of his own name, known by some only as "The Kudo of the West"—then it means he's not the dull-witted detective his father (at least openly) thinks of him as. It means he's not a worthless embarrassment.

That's how I view it, anyway. I don't think Heiji sought to befriend Shinichi at all when he left for Tokyo, or that he was looking for someone "worthy" of being his friend, but part of what I like so much about Heiji and Shinichi's eventual friendship is that it starts when Shinichi tells Heiji to stop with the comparisons and competitions. So much of Heiji's life has been defined by comparison; even when people around him are trying to treat him kindly, he's still compared to his father, and, of course, he's also compared to Shinichi.

But in that classic moment, Shinichi doesn't compare Heiji to anyone. He explains straight out that he sees no point in it. And I think that's really, endlessly freeing to Heiji, and it's part of why he admires and loves Shinichi as much as he does.
