The Ember in the Ashes series absolutely deserves as much attention as all the most popular fantasy books. Those books are so beautifully written and carry such important messages. I’ve never read a book that’s felt so fanciful but still felt so relevant to this world.

An ember in the ashes needs to get more popular because I know you motherfuckers would love Helene Aquilla. Complex female character of all time

I just finished "A sky beyond the storm" and I'm screaming, crying, throwing up. Harper. Avitas. My baby. Helene. Damn how fast she moved on. I love you forever and always. I cried about you. I probably mourned you better than Helene did. I'll never forgive you, sabaa tahir.

I will never forgive y’all who demonize female characters who are traditionally feminine or emotional or conventionally beautiful and seen as desirable to men or treated as a rival love interest.

my friend is gushing about the fourth wing, which i've learned through tumblr osmosis to be very. hmm. and so i stretched out my feelers and i landed on like. okay. if That is the sort of series that you gush over, then maybe This actually good series will turn your head, and i looked through my library and remembered the ember in the ashes series
and i was like. yes. this series has all the vague hallmarks of That Kind of story, except that it's actually well-done and well- and thoughtfully-crafted and features complex characters and is so good that it makes me forget my hatred for first-person perspective
(and also i started rereading it after this recommendation and have been reminded suddenly and powerfully of how i would die for helene aquilla like my liege my master my queen tell me what you need and i will make it so)
but yeah. i haven't read the fourth wing but i have seen reactions from people whose opinions i respect and more than that i have read the summary on amazon dot com
and it's like. listen my friend. listen. if you think this book is life-changingly amazing
please allow me to show you something that is actually worthy of your devotion

no thoughts, just
“look at me.” he is about to say my name — my heart’s name — the way he did in his mind when i sang him well. and if i let him, i will be undone. “look at me. hel — ”
“blood shrike, captain harper…. i am the blood shrike. you would do well to remember it.”
for a moment, he is frozen, pain flashing nakedly across his face. then he stands and salutes, the consummate mask once more. “of course, blood shrike, sir. permission to return to duty.”

I love how at the end of An Ember in the Ashes, when Laia blows up the amphitheater and rescues Elias, the first thing he says to her when she appears while he’s laying on the ground bleeding out is a mildly confused “you’re here too?” Man has just been arrested, nearly publicly executed by his best friend, had everything around him blown up, and thinks he’s dead by now, and the only thing he can think to say is “huh why is Laia here in the afterlife with me she’s part of a different culture that’s weird she’s here” and also if because Aquilla was in the middle of like severing his head off when the explosion went off whether that meant he was going to be headless in the afterlife 💀💀💀 he literally said in his mind “seems a bit unfair…” he really needs to get his priorities in place

I swear the author had something personal against Helene. Like the woman couldn't be happy for longer than five minutes before it was ripped away from her. And every single time she watched it happen, right in front of her.

I came to look at some funny incorrect quotes on an Ember in the ashes but instead I was given two big spoilers and then are probably part of big plot twists
