Johannes Helgeson is a Senior concept artists and Illustrator at SYBO games.

His art is dynamic and filled with incredible use of colour schemes and colour theory to portray expressive emotions such as fear, rage, joy and even sorrow. The piece above is a perfect example of this, using warm colours such as red and orange in order to portray an expression of rage/insanity in this magical character as he casts a spell. This helps to portray an evil energy using red’s typical association with the themes of evil/passion/anger. Two of which are commonly reasons characters turn to evil.

Johannes Helgeson’s art of female characters isn’t exactly. my cup of tea as proportions go out of the window for sake of stylisation- With large heads and petite bodies in comparison that in reality resembles bobble heads more than people- however his art’s quality doesn’t drop despite my gripes with the proportions. The shading and colouring still astounds me and continues to be excellent. While I do have issues with this stylisation, it’s more due to comparisons between his art of females and male characters, the male characters proportions seem less unrealistic, simply just more muscular in some mostly still obtainable body goals for athletic people. However, this stylisation when separated from the other pieces of art he has produced continues to be aesthetically pleasing and even stands similar to how my doll’s proportions are working out. Albeit with less bobble head like head.

Trying to get more aquatinted with lighting and colors in digital painting so I painted this thing, which was “HEAVILY INSPIRED” (cough copy cough) by HelgesonArt’s work cause that guy is really good with lighting/colors. I was always taught that the best way to learn is by copying and I def learned a lot from this.
