My helpol advice for all of us chronically ill witches & pagans is that you can ask for punishment of the doctor/nurse that hurt you, deny you, and make your life harder. Healthcare workers often swear oaths—from Hippocrates—which falls under the gods, particularly renege-avenging Helios. If a doctor/nurse is awful, and breaks their oath in caring for you, go to him with honey or any sort of offering and seek the retribution you deserve. Lord Helios does not permit oaths to be broken under his divine light.

Apollon, Helios and the Archetype of the Sun
A Theological Analysis (part 1/??)
Tumblr media
Disclaimer: this post is made with pure theological observation with limited basis in historical documentation. I do not make this post with an intent to present a fact, but rather a possibility.
Apollon's Conflation with the Sun
A common misconception in the majority pagan community is that Apollon was for all of his history a sun god. This of course is not true. Apollon was originally a god of prophecy, healing, light and music. As his worship grew he became conflated with the Sun God, Helios. This was because Helios too was a god of divination through his affiliation with sorcery along with being the Sun itself, which is the most prominent source of light. This affiliation was further enhanced during the time of the Roman Empire where he was syncretised with the major Sun God, Sol Invictus.
History aside, the question is: were the Romans wrong? Simple answer: no. Apollon as the god of light, can also be the god of the sun. The Sun is only the sun because it gives us Light. Does this mean we erase Helios? No. The two can work together.
Disolar Theory
Let me pose a controversial point, what I have dubbed the Disolar (Two-Suns) Theory. Now before you scientists come at me, what I mean is that there are two 'types' of Suns. The Archetypal or Universal Sun, and the physical nuclear fusion factory of a star in outer space which we all depend on, the Physical Sun.
The Universal Sun
What is the Universal Sun? I don't mean a object/entity around which the cosmos revolves. I mean the Archetype of the traditional sun gods. Let's look at the Sun tarot card for this one.
The Sun card is associated with the following: generosity, truth, illumination, power, abundance, success, life-giving energy, healing, nourishment, protection and knowledge.
The Archetypal Sun is not a physical entity, but rather all the qualities we commonly associate with the physical entity of the Sun. The physical sun is limited and impermanent, it's qualities however are eternal and universal. The Archetypal Sun, I propose, is Apollon.
So, which came first: The Archetype or the Entity?
Depends on how you look at it. Humanity looked at and experienced the Sun and attributed certain qualities to it. In that regard, the Entity came first. This is why in popular mythos, Apollon is younger than Helios; and in some cases his direct son (pun intended, hah) through syncretism with Zeus. However, the Archetype of the Sun existed long before humanity. These qualities weren't born only when humanity perceived it. They were always there. They are eternal. So if Apollo is the Archetypal/Universal Sun, then wouldn't he be older?
Hi, Michaelangelo
Tumblr media
We all know this painting right? It's the Biblical God giving life to Adam. But there's more to it, an interpretation Michaelangelo himself wouldn't have liked.
If you look at the veil surrounding God, you'll notice it looks eerily similar to the human brain. Another thing to note is that Adam is relaxed. He's relaxed and he's thinking, represented by the floating brain veil. Contemplating a concept. Contemplating the Concept of 'God'. Adam gives God form. He perceives God and gives him appearance, thus the image of God is coming out of the brain of Adam. Adam wasn't made in the image of God. God was made in the image of Adam, but that's besides the point.
Does this mean that God didn't exist before Adam? No. God is eternal. However, God was perceived by Adam, and thus painted to look like him.
The case is same with Apollon. The Universal Sun is the Eternal Apollon. However, the son of Zeus/Helios is the Perceived Apollon. Apollon as Humanity saw him.
Then, What of Helios?
Do we abandon him and worship only the Archetypal Sun? No. The Physical Sun is the reason we know of the Archetypal Sun in the first place. The Archetypal Sun depends on the Physical Sun and vice versa. Besides, without the Physical Sun (Helios), humanity wouldn't exist in the first place. We depend on Helios, might as well honour Him.
Grace to the Gods, Euoi

Helios, Titan God of the Sun, sight and oaths 🌞
Acrylics on paper, 9.5x9.5 cm.
Preparation for a mural frieze 💐
Helios is the literal embodiment of the Sun, the star itself, unlike Apollo (who doesn’t interest me at all even though he’s patron of art and things 🤷🏻‍♀️)
Helios sees everything and stirred a lot of drama in mythology 👀
His Tarot cards are XVIIII The Sun & VII The Chariot. I used to draw Arcana XVIIII a lot in readings when I was first set on healing my daddy issues lmao. I also associate him with XVI The Tower because in the Tarot de Besançon the lightning bolt striking the tower is actually the ray of a tiny sun in the upper right corner.
The Sun represents (healthy) masculine energy, kingly, fatherly, bright, warm and reliable. I have a huge part of masculine energy that receded little by little to give more space to the feminine; and I’d picture myself in relationships as the Sun to someone’s Moon. I see now that I’ll always be the Moon 🌕🥚🌑🩸

it’s ok if you’re not still doing this but i was wondering if i could get some photos of poseidon amphitrite or helios? dealers choice :)
Hey @egg-wyrm ! This is a fascinating ask, at least for me, and I'm going to take the opportunity to talk about syncretization between Helios and Apollon in their solar aspects and how to tell them apart in works of art (I'd also love to make a post for Poseidon & Amphitrite, so stay tuned! They’ll come up within the next week or so).
The syncretization of Apollon and Helios is a very old concept, going back to the Hellenistic Age (323 BCE - 31 BCE). It’s no secret that artists have conflated the two in their works, reliably using them interchangeably. There are only two details in paintings that separate them from each other: the aureole, and a chariot pulled by horses, which are sometimes flaming, and other times just winged. So we end up with pieces such as these:
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Helios as the Personification of Midday by Anton Raphael Mengs, 1765, Palace of Moncloa, Madrid.
Helios on His Chariot by Hans Adam Weissenkercher, 1695, Universalmuseum Joanneum Graz, Austria.
While the name of Helios is given to the subject of the first work, the details, robes, bow and flaming arrow, and the hairstyle are all distinctly associated with Apollon. The aureole is not enough to separate the two, and leads to more questions than answers. The simplest idea is that those attributes are more universally recognizable when associated with the Sun. The second piece is a far more distinct portrait of Helios. He is in the Sun chariot, completed in gold, his hand raises a whip for his horses, he is silhouetted against the eclipsed sun. These are all historically attested attributes for Helios as a solar deity. This was something that struck me about your question and I have challenged myself to include works that function more like the second piece.

1.) Helios and Selene by Hans Rathausky, Opatijta, Croatia. 2.) Helios in the Sun Chariot, accompanied by Phosphorus and Hermes, by Giuseppe Ignazio Appiani, c. 1760, Nymphenburg Palace, Munich. 3.) Helios in His Chariot, early 4th century BCE frieze, Athena’s Temple. 4.) Helios and the Sun Chariot attributed to Raphael, c. late 15th century, Castello Chigi, near Rome.

A silly question for all Helios worshippers: what kind of modern car do you think Helios would drive? I am biased and would say the 280 Fairlady Z because I myself drive a 300zx, but I would have to hear other’s musings.

personally i love the trinity of sol, galicaea, and helio. the father the son and the holy spirit but make it the sun, the lifeless rock that's only visible when it reflects the sun's light, and the cringefail monoculture that grows because of it

Prayer to Helios
I praise bright Helios, great god who sees all things, who hears each oath, who acknowledges each deed; in all the world there is no spot hidden from your eye, no escape from your certain witness.
Son of Titans, of fiery Hyperion and blue-eyed Theia, brother of white-browed Selene, each day your firm hand guides the chariot of the sun, four flaming steeds of might and spirit, who cross the breadth of the sky.
Beautiful Helios, fair-haired god, clad in purple, the sun’s rays bathe you in light, O glorious one, as splendor crowns you, wraps you in brilliance.
Helios, whose face we see each day in our lives, who warms the soil that crops may grow, whose radiance nourishes our children, whose might pierces the dark of night, O Helios, I honor you, I praise your name.
