Let’s talk Snap Dragons 🪴✨
Snap Dragons, a frequently forgotten ally in protective and baneful magic. These flowers are incredibly useful alongside being incredibly beautiful✨ this post will cover some basic facts about these plants including origins, care, and metaphysical properties 🪴
Basic facts and care🌱
Snap Dragons, also called Antirrhinum majus. This botanical name actually means “like a snout” referring to the plants snout like appearance, often compared to a dragon or calf snout.
Native to Mediterranean Europe, Syria, and turkey
Do best in full to partial sun, and moist but well drained soil
Come in both standard and dwarf variety
These flowers rely on larger bumblebee species for pollination, as smaller pollinators are unable to open the petals of the plant to access the pollen
Doing best in spring or fall, due to their love of slightly cooler climates.
These tower like flowers begin blooming towards the bottom of their stalk and slowly work their way up to create a full and dynamic appearance.
I prefer to first plant these flowers in the spring, as they are able to settle and take root while maintaining beautiful and vibrant colors. This also allows me to harvest some blooms earlier in the reason before summer hits.
These plants will often struggle during peak heat in the summer, however if you keep them watered and well cared for through the summer heat they will perk back up and bloom again in early fall 🪴
These flowers blooms don’t last terribly long compared to some others, but they make up for it with ease of harvest and their beauty
To harvest these blooms you do have options depending on your end goal. You can either
Cut the entire stalk after all blooms have opened, hang the stalks upside down in a cool, dry place, with a plastic or fabric bag over the flowers to catch any that fall. This is best if you plan to hang these flowers as a protective talisman, or decor either hanging or in a vase
Pinch the blooms, by gently pinching the base and bulling gently you can maintain the flowers shape without separating the petals. To dry these blooms simply place the flowers on a paper towel or thin cloth towel, and sandwich them between 2 layers. This allows the blooms to dry while also not being overly exposed.
Natural drying. Since these blooms do not last long even with perfect care, many people will allow the blooms to dry naturally on the stalk. This is also due to the unique shape snap dragons take when they dry on the stalk. Many thinking the dried blooms resemble tiny skulls.
Metaphysical Properties ✨🌱
Extremely protective, purification, strength, grace
Are believed to help protect against hexes, curses, and nightmares
One of my personal favorite talismans for protection as they carry a more baneful energy
Simple return to sender using snap dragons:
Place your dried snap dragons either in front of a mirror on your altar or in your space, or in a compact mirror. Anywhere the snap dragons are facing a reflection. Do this with the intention of the flowers protecting you against the negative energy, and sending it back. This is my favorite simple way of using snaps in my everyday practice
Have a great day or night, and let me know if you have any questions or requests 🌱✨🪴

Just been thinking a lot about how my beliefs and practices have changed over the years. I like thinking about what has remained consistent and what hasn't. What's stayed consistent has been Hekate. I've been worshipping her since childhood, although I went through a long period in which I forgot about her, and in college, I found her again! I used to feel weird about saying I've had Hekate in my thoughts since I was very little. I still feel weird. I feel like I must seem very dramatic and silly when I say that and like other people will think I'm crazy (I really am a little bit of a wackadoodle but I know that's ok now :D)
I went through a period recently where I was an atheist again-- I was as a teenager-- but I decided to maintain my altar to her anyways this time. I'm really glad I did and continue to do so, even when I don't feel very religious, even when I feel like she's just a symbol in my life.
I like calling this Hekate's quiet corner because whenever I'm in it, there is a sense of silence and stillness that I find soothing and companionable. I like to imagine that her presence is truly like that. Good, quiet company-- I believe there's an epithet which describes her as the silent companion along your life's journey, ever watching, ever supportive on some level. Even if there isn't, that's how I've come to experience her these days. I think my relationship to her is still passionate and important but not in an explosive way or anything really frenzied. I've experienced that kind of devotion to Hekate before and it was both exhilarating and exhausting. I made some really cool paintings because of those feelings and I learned new things, but I'm glad that things have cooled down since then.

Crow Feeder. (Possible butterfly/moth feeder)
Tumblr media
So I found this bird feeder that can be put on the outside of my window at uni and I am thinking about creating a crow feeder. I've been researching what crows like to eat and what is good for them for a while now. I have also had to factor in my budget at uni but here is my list of things:
Leftover meat
Banana
blueberries
Mixed unflavoured nuts
egg
Water in a side
So one side of the tray I will have to seal the holes up to be able to fill it with water and the other side will be filled with goodies for them to eat.
Although I'll make this with intent for it to be for crows i know that lots of other animals may use it. The way I view this is my care for crows is a devotional act and offering to Thanatos and so he will chose who uses it.
This feeder also has the capability to be a butterfly/moth feeder. Put sugar water in one side and salt water in the other. Then fill the sugared side with fruits like banana and strawberries and cherries. (basically if the flesh of the fruit oozes as they turn overripe you're winning). You may mix dirt in with the salt side as butterflies like muddy puddles. you may also add local vegetation inside.
Again even though I'll intend it for butterflies/moths Thanatos will chose.

uses for notebooks (bc every witch i know has too many of them)
Tumblr media
1. A “working” Book of Shadows i have a pretty average notebook that i use for this. basically, it’s where i workshop spells and jot down messy notes without having to worry about making everything pretty for my grimoire. speaking of which...
2. A pretty grimoire i actually made my grimoire from scratch, and i might post pics someday, but this can be any notebook/ journal that you adore and want to make the most of. i usually spend hours per page of mine so it looks exactly how i want it to, and it’s the grimoire i show others and will pass down to someone when i am old and wrinkly.
3. Gratitude journal again, i made my gratitude journal from scratch, but this can be any notebook that gives you a nice happy vibe. i wrote 20 things i was grateful for every single day for 25 days in order to build the habit of being grateful, but i still write in it when i’m having an awful day, because it does put your life into perspective and usually makes me feel a little less sad.
4. Sigil book oh my goodness, when i started doing this, finding sigils became so much simpler. i don’t know about you, but i create sigils on any paper i have on hand, and then stick them loose into my BoS. this is an awful strategy. do as i say, not as i do :) BUT i found this tiny little green field notes notepad that matched my grimoire perfectly and transcribed all my sigils onto it with page numbers, so now i can find them all in one place. i recommend a fairly small book for this one, so you can always have it on hand, but if that’s not your thing, do whatever feels best. truly one of the best hacks i’ve figured out regarding the craft.
5. Shadow work journal i haven’t started shadow work formally but i’m planning to start this Samhain season (yikes, wish me luck), and a lot of people i know or have known of use a notebook exclusively for their shadow work, so that it’s all kept together in a chronological narrative that’s easy to look back on.
6. Coven BoS i know that many if not most practitioners are solitary, but if you are in a coven, or if you even just have witchy friends, creating a group book of shadows is a fun activity. you can each do your own pages and decorate them how you want to, so the product is really pretty and scrapbook-y. any notebook works for this, but if you’re planning on doing it for a long time, the bigger the better.
8. Correspondence log okay, okay. so this isn’t gonna be your cup of tea if you’re not super into organization and spreadsheets (virgos, looking at you), but if that is something you enjoy, this could be a great resource to have. a graphing notebook would probably work best for this but again, use what you have on hand.
there are infinitely more options too, these are just some ideas to get you started. comment other ideas/ suggestions if you have any :)

So I feel like I’ve been posting a lot of random things, but I’m here to document my experiences and journey, and this is definitely one of them LOL:
I haven’t been working with Apollo as much as I usually do, and I’m pretty sure he’s noticed.. which makes me sad. I sing to him usually everyday, talk to him everyday, and he would send his crows to watch over me (and I would feed them!) But lately, I haven’t been working with him as often, and the crows aren’t around, and I definitely don’t feel him as much as I use to.
Then I started having dreams, and a weird thing is, I’m not sure if it’s Apollo coming to me in these dreams, or if it’s something else?
I was baptized as a Catholic, and that’s the faith I was half taught half told was BS by my mom who would go back on forth on her faith to God, but I personally believe that any/all deities are out there and cater to the people that work with/worship/are devoted to them.
Here’s how this becomes relevant:
I had a dream a few nights ago, or I had a visit of sorts. I was in this white room, enveloped by wings, when all of a sudden this person appeared in front of me, and held out their hand to me. They looked like a painting or a depiction of a being. Then I heard a voice (which was not coming from the person, but a voice surrounding us,) which said:
“You can put your trust in Patrick, but Patrick will take his time trusting you.”
I did some research on the person I saw in my dream and they eerily look like the Archangel Michael? Like down to the clothes and look, specifically in one painting I saw of him. Except I know that angels usually say, “Fear not, for I come in peace” whenever they visit someone, and this person didn’t say anything like that. I also just have a feeling that the being or person that visited me wasn’t associated with Christianity or that faith, just because it’s not the faith I follow? The main reason I could have first thought of Christianity was the wings, but then I realized wings can be associated with literally anyone 😬
When I found the photo of Michael that looked similar, I was more surprised/shocked than anything, but it didn’t feel right?
But then I had another dream last night with the same person, except this time they appeared to me as a person and not a painting.
All I remember from this dream was that I was leaving work, walking from my area to my employee parking lot, when I heard this rustling in the trees. After looking up, I saw this large creature staring at me and waving, with a smile on its face. It kinda looked like a mutilated rabbit.
Then I was in my car, driving down a mountain, and it was as if my car was breaking apart. My steering wheel fell off and I quickly put it back on before I careened off of a cliff. I was looking down for some reason, and once I looked back up, I looked into my rear view mirror and saw the same person again! This time I was able to define their features and actually make out what they looked liked. It was for a split second, but then I suddenly noticed I was about to hit a mass of trees and veered out of the way. My car starting spinning, but it finally stopped in a patch of land and I was safe. I looked back and the person was gone. I’m pretty sure that if I hadn’t felt them near, been so shocked by seeing them and saw what was about to happen to save myself in time, I probably would have died in this dream?
Now, the person has shoulder length curlyish blond hair, pale to light beige skin, and these piercing eyes. In my first dream, they were wearing a blue and red robe ensemble, and in my second dream they were wearing all white from what I can remember.
So this morning, since I got a better/more realistic depiction of this person, I did some research again, and this person also looks creepily similar to some old paintings of Apollo.
But I’m not sure what to think tbh, and I’m not really sure who it was. These dreams kinda left a weird /mixed feeling in me. Not so much a negative one, but an unsure or confused one.
So if anyone knows anything or has experienced anything like this, I would love to know! I would love some insight. I also just wanted to document this for myself as well! ✨

Let’s Talk Fox Glove🪴
Fox Glove is one of my personal favorites when it comes to plants I work with. Not only is it beautiful but it is an incredibly useful ally and harbours beautiful energy in my garden. I am lucky to have an area of my garden that animals and people can’t easily access, this is important to remember with foxglove as it is extremely toxic (both to eat and touch). In this list I’m gonna talk about some basic facts about the plant as well as it’s metaphysical properties and care 🪴🖤
Basic Facts and Care
Fox Glove(digitalis purpurea) is a plant native to Europe, the Mediterranean region, and the Canary Islands
They thrive best in full to partial sun. As well as moist, well drained soil.
They are a biennial. Which means they will come back and flower every year for 2-5 years depending on care and your region.
They contain a poison that is a cardiac stimulant. While yes, foxglove has been used by doctors for certain ailments. Use caution with this plant as it can trigger cardiac events.
When handling this plant it’s important to remember to wear gloves and minimize its contact with your skin. As many people experience rashes after contact. The toxin can also be absorbed though breaks in the skin, so please be a careful.
They are most toxic when they are in their seed producing stage. Their seeds and roots are the most toxic parts of the plant(but all parts of the plants are still toxic)
When drying these beautiful plants for your practice. In my experience it is best to dry them in a cool, dry place, tied upside down with either a plastic or fabric bag over the plant all the way to the area your string is tied, simply to prevent seeds and dried pieces from falling to the floor. This is especially important if you have animals or children.
Metaphysical Properties 🌱✨
Planet: Venus
Zodiac: Taurus
Basic Properties: death, healing, life, protection, fae communication
Extremely protective plant, similar to snap dragons, they act as a protective anchor for both your garden and your household.
I personally use dried foxglove in my herb bundle for my home guardian(Ridire). This encourages him to protect my home and my space, while maintaining a calm, safe energy

Write your Witchcraft: a Witch’s diary
Baduhennasraven wrote a post recently about writing. Writing about your craft and reflecting about the changes that happen within you. I thought I’d give it a go as my actual practice can be very limited at times. So here we are.
Today:  What draws me to witchcraft.
Essentially, it is about claiming back power that is yours. Yours to take, yours to shape, and yours to grow.I believe that as witches/pagan, we usually have been drawn to this path, or chose to actually act on the attraction you felt to the for, of belief and craft supported in these different paths. You can see as religious epiphany, or just simple curiosity, but the gist of that idea is that at the end, nobody else is responsible for its success but yourself.  Some may be blessed to have godly signs - if you so believe in deities - or feel like we have been called for a higher purpose. For me, my path is all about who I could be. Who I can become and the idea of self prosperity. I may not change the World - but I will change the world I live in. Witchcraft is one path that has allowed me to be myself, and be in control of myself. I have learnt many things with the path, things I thought were unreachable, or could not be tangibly seen. And I was proven wrong. But still, this path is about self discipline, and personal strength at his core. Despite a strong community, I still believe that witchcraft is about the individual, not the whole. Your devotion, your magic, your spells are affected by you and you alone. There is no higher hierarchy when you are solitary - and nobody on this plane can tell you that you are doing something wrong. My failings - and my successes - are my own. My beliefs are my own - even if shaped and deepened by my personal experiences. My craft is the path I follow and create every day I learn, and nobody can take that away from me.Witchcraft is a door I opened on my own. A door I seeked out and created with my bare hands, and one that has opened a world that already existed inside of me. I just needed to find the doorknob and the hinges, and now I can leave it open behind me.  To me, witchcraft remains not only what was - but what will be. What you will create and this is the reality that you birth. It is what could be, if you want it to. If you are ready to put the effort in it and pay its price.

Today's melancholy shopping experience and future shopping plans there.
I bought some black candle sticks and some snowflake obsidian (for my Thanatos altar) today, from a local shop that is closing down. It was a really sad energy in the shop; it was almost completely empty. It was a shocking reminder of what covid has done to small businesses especially ones that have a physical store front. The energy in the building itself was almost funeral-like and I guess that makes sense with it being the death of another witchy business. I may go back for some red and purple candle sticks for Thanatos but also some for Hades and Dionysus. Maybe some green and purple for Dionysus and some silver/grey for Hades (he will also get a black one I think whether it be one of the 2 I bought today or not depends on my money situation). it closes on the 28th and I am in isolation for the next 10 days (unless the tests come back negative) so I might have to send a friend to pick them up for me.

Thinking of just typing things for Aphrodite. Nothing specific. Just things. Kinda like a prayer. Or just like a letter to her. I don't know. But I'm sure you guys don't want to see that. And not every day.
