Introduction

Hello, everyone! My name is Hetalian Historian and I am a dedicated fan and journalist on documenting all things Hetalia! Ever since getting into the series, I have developed a deep fascination for the franchise, the fandom, and the history itself behind Hetalia overall, including its ups and downs. The way I see it, is that Hetalia is like history itself, there is a certain kind of culture and past that I, personally, have never seen before and that has fascinated me. Thus, I am here to research, learn, journal, discuss, and archive all Hetalia related things as much as possible. Alongside that, it is also out of general love for the franchise, its characters, and contents!

Moving along, here is what you can expect from me to look into:

As of now, everything is a bit humble, but overtime I will refine the blog and my socials, especially for Youtube. Hopefully one day, I can convert my posts into video essays to allow for accessibility and reach, alongside original content, but until then it's going to be there for documentation purposes. If anyone is interested in following me on other platforms, I do have a linktree! (Just note I'll be mainly using the first four socials, the rest are accounts are dedicated for research use and occasional updates).

One final thing, it's important for me to note this is managed by one person and being accomplished out of my own free time. Everything about this project is completely personal and my sheer love for Hetalia. Even if this blog somehow finds an audience, I want to make it clear that at the end of the day, I am doing this for myself and out of my own personal enjoyment. Of course, I will be doing my best to update as much as I can, but eventually there will be a point where material runs dry, life gets in the way, or I somehow fall out of Hetalia. However, right now, I get to run this blog and I have the ability to find joy and fun within it, so I'll take the chance to see how far this can go!

I'm nervous, yet excited for what is to come! If you are interested in contributing to the blog, I am open for topic ideas, official and fandom news, findings, general help, questions, and more! 38. How do you feel about using accents in fics Accents is such a big part of Hetalia fanfiction and has always been a big thing, but I really don't like the old version, where you could barely read the text because France would speak like "zis" and Sweden like "th't". Any of my fellow ancient hetalians know what I'm talking about. 🥲 I don't miss it. Now for what you actually probably wanted to know about, which is me being very insistent that Romano has a Southern Italian accent and make him speak in dialects. I love it. Dialects and accents are so interesting to me, especially Italian ones, because some can be pinpointed down to a single town. I also love when people actually consider how the actual sound of dialects work, more than just making the text unintelligible. I always try to think about the sound of spoken words when I write out an accent or dialect – it's a less is more kind of thing. If you're going to write something with an accent, it has to be intentional (examples are everytime Alfred in Birdbrains say anything and it's misspelled or weirdly abbreviated in any way).

43. What appeals to you about the ships you like A lot of them is kinda... I've shipped them since I was 14? It's hard to remember how it started at this point. Sometimes it feels more like it's my ocs that closely resemble Hetalia characters. xD It feels like an underexplanation, but the chemistry between the characters.

47. Where do you write? Usually, I write anywhere I can sit down and whip out my computer. That has now expanded into just. Anywhere. Everywhere. In class. Commute. Walking. Waiting for food. I'm pressed for time, so writing is any moment I don't do anything else.

68. Show us a bit of a wip I am feeling generous (when I publish it, it might look completely different).

“No! Feli likes them. And Mamma says I have to be nice to Feli or else.” 

Romulus noticed Feliciano was stirring in his sleep and rocked him a little, before taking Lovino and leaving the room. “I know you mean well, but no rocks, at least not until Feli is a little older.” Romulus said, and Lovino just pouted in response. “Imagine if Feli puts it in his mouth and chokes, Lovino, that wouldn’t be nice.”

Lovino did not want his brother to choke, but now he was getting stubborn. “I’m not nice. Says Mr. Valentin.” That was the director of the sitcom Lovino acted on, and it made sense as an instruction, since Lovino played a bully kid, but it was not good if Lovino thought that was part of who he was.

“Lovino, caramellino, Mr. Valentin tells you how to pretend, but pretending isn’t the real you. The real you is really nice, since you like giving presents to your brother, and you listen to the adults.”

Lovino looked at him with those big eyes, doubting his words. “Feli is good and nice. Mamma says so. Giovanni too.”

Lithuanian surnames

Hello, fellow hetalians. I have noticed that a lot of you don't change Tolys' surname when you talk about his nyo counterpart. In the Lithuanian language, surnames are gendered and if you want to use the correct surname you should use " Laurinaityte " when talking about her.

That was all I had to say, now if you excuse me, my army of cats needs me.

Postcards From Around the World

Hello, I wanted to share one of my favorite hobbies that has been keeping me sane with all my sudden free time. yes I know this is in the hetalia tag but I figured if my fellow hetalians are like me you love learning about different countries. Well a great way to do that is through postcrossing. Postcrossing is where you send and receive postcards from around the world.

So what is postcrossing? Postcrossing is a website where you get a random person somewhere in the world to send a postcard to, once they get your postcard and say they have received it someone will get to send a postcard to you. If you want to you can even change the settings so you can receive postcards from your own country as well (highly recommended during corona times since countries aren’t accepting mail from certain countries right now)

How to use Postcrossing

When you start out you can only send 5 postcards at a time. Don’t worry this number will grow as people receive your postcards.

Make sure you have the right amount of stamps on your postcard. National and international mail have different prices. Also be sure to check each year to make sure the price isn’t going to increase. (made that mistake and had to redo 6 postcards)

Other

Look up #postcrossing on Instagram if you need inspiration but don’t feel intimidated by all their fancy decor. Most postcrossers keep it very simple. I’m extra so I got decor but it took me almost a year to save up and get a very small amount of washi tapes and stickers.

If you’re like me postcards are hard to find since your city isn’t well known, but don’t worry you can buy postcards online from small stores on Etsy or boxes of 100 postcards for $20 on amazon. I know when you first start out you probably won’t always have what people have on their wishlist but don’t worry about it and have fun.

If you post pictures of postcards you’re sending out please always cover the address. These people are trusting you to not take advantage of your info on them and exploit it to others.

Oh thank you so much 😭 Posting this publicly to give others some clarification too on where to read first. You can either start with “What do we want?” or “Are we humans?”  AWH was written first, but is technically the 2nd book in the series. WDWW was written last but is a prequel to AWH. I wrote WDWW though so you can read it first. Personally, I think it’s better to start with that one because it provides a lot of context going into AWH. Don’t read the comments though because they’re spoilery since some people read this fic last

I’m sorry, but can I be a little sarcastic for just a moment, please? Bear with me here, okay? But, have you heard of this thing called “fictional storytelling and backstory structure”?

Nah, just kidding. Sorry about that, but yeah I can understand how you’d think I have this deep underlying hatred for the homestuck fandom because the general concept of fandomstuck is about humanized versions of the fandom. But I don’t. Also, hello, fellow hetalian! ^-^

You want the short explanation or the long one? I’ll give you both. The long one is down below.

The short explanation is, this blog doesn’t treat the characters as the fandom. This is an AU where the fandoms are their own person and live their life as such. Weirdness and all. So, personality and lifestyle doesn’t correspond to actual fandom interactions, but mainly how their chemistry would actually work for each other.

I’ve been in the fandomstuck community for 5 years (yes, that long, since the very beginning, been through a whole lot of shit) and never once have I seen anyone try out an actual thing where the fandoms….aren’t fandoms. They’re just living beings with hobbies and stuff. Sure, their shows can still exist, but they’re not relatively those in itself, they’re just probably fans or people a little close to hitting the nail on those shows because maybe the ones who made the series have witnessed these oddballs in their natural domestic life.

All in all, my basis for who and what homestuck’s personality became of in this blog is actually real life encounters I’ve had RPing as Heta. I mean, of course, there are nice HS rpers, but I’ve been those unlucky ones who encountered more toxic pushovers that told me how I can and can’t act as Heta. (those typical “he isn’t sad, he’s super happy!” or “why are you such a downer? you play HT so awfully” and all those stereotypical rants about how Hetalia is defined by their bubbly personality alone and not their underlying internal sadness they keep hidden from others) Heck, I even got banned once or twice because I wasn’t their expected Hetalia. Those days are behind me now though.

What actually solidified my decision to keep this detrimental part of the story in Hetalia’s life is Nat Mun. My, god, I love Nat Mun, okay? He and Creepy Mun are amazing friends that helped me build this universe through multiple years of RP archives. Nat Mun gave me a reason in itself to keep that sad part of Hetalia’s life because that was probably the tipping point on how Nat and Heta’s relationship escalated. Hetalia and Homestuck as moirails proved to have them as close to inseparable as it can be and sometimes to the point that HT dotes on HS more often than actually socialize with others if you think of it in a more human perspective. And that isn’t healthy. I went into that kind of slump in my RPing experience, only playing to please others without having fun myself, until I met Nat Mun (who used to rp an HS). He was one of the rare people that actually liked my Hetalia without further judgement on how I rp them. And all that road to personal growth yadda yadda.

I am so terribly sorry, this got really long and personally rant inducing. You only wanted a reason why I chose to make HS sound like an asshole in this blog and I probably could’ve made this a really short explanation of: “Because it’s important to character growth and story. Nothing real.”

But where’s the fun in that? xDDD
