Today at work a regular of mine, who until today I never really understood why my coworker has such a huge crush on him, wanted to pay for another customer’s meal because his daughter was with them. However, the other customer already told their server that she wanted to pay for his check. So he told me he wanted to pay his check and the other one, but I told him they already said they would pay for his. My rule is whoever asks for the check first gets it, they can duke it out at the table after I drop the check off.

He very adamantly said that he wants to pay for both. To which I replied that I don’t have any control over it.

This man looks me in the eyes, with a slight smirk, leans towards me and quietly says with his deep voice “Well, get control over it, Helen.” It took me a few seconds to blink and reboot my brain after the shock.

I had to quickly collect myself because I wanted to say “Don’t talk to me like that unless you’re going to do something about it” and desperately trying to keep my bratty responses in my mind.

But what I actually said was “let me try to figure it out” and so I did. As I’m walking back, he’s watching me, and I set both checks in front of him and he says “good girl, you’re the best”

I have been thinking about this all day and I’m not sure if I’ll ever recover. So I get it now. I get why my coworker has a crush on him.
