Discovery!

People using Glaze/Webglaze! I have made a discovery. Inputting a png produces dramatically better results than inputting a jpg.

Here's why, confirmed by Glaze lead: Glaze only works on pngs, so it converts to a png anyway regardless of what you put in. After, it will convert back to the file format you input (like a jpg), and likely uses whatever default compression method to do so. So you end up with compression on compression, and it creates some nasty results.

Tonight I was trying to Glaze this majority-red work (which we all know gets destroyed by compression because of the color) and was gutted by how absolutely terrible it looked. Like saving a quality 3 jpg in Photoshop, honestly. I'm all for giving up *some* quality and ability to discern small details in favor of the protection of Glaze, but this was too much. Crisp details were entirely lost when I got it back. I was lamenting the fact that I might have to just not Glaze this work at all. Since you can't really dial back the intensity for webglaze anymore (it's medium or high, or default, which selects for you), I decided to try putting a png through. Which came out WAY better?

Then I put another one through to be sure, and had the same (better) results. And one more for good measure, all of which produced better results than their jpg counterparts.

So my workflow moving forward will be high quality png into webglaze, then convert to jpg on my own to save quality as much as possible. P.S. if you want to see the work I included here for reference, it's here.

We have: ✅found housing (after 30+ viewings that all rejected her) ✅gotten hired (mom increased to full time, I have found part time) ✅registered with every assistance program we can However, after fronting the deposit and first month's rent and all the bills myself, I'm worried about making ends meet at the end of the month. Mom is escaping an abusive relationship and has very little. I'm having iron-on patches printed by a local business and they're currently past the proof stage. They will be 4x4 inches big and will look absolutely sick on your jacket. Or your jeans. Or your bag. If you go buy a patch, I'll send it in the mail to you as soon as they're done(could be a couple weeks). You will be supporting me and my mom getting back on our feet. And you'll have a badass new patch.

I'm thinking abt that pretty fall leaves embroidery pattern post and about how like... it is categorically a repost, it's a reupload. right? a thing that is generally disliked. but because it's credited, it's genuinely boosting the artist in question. and it could ALWAYS be like this. reposting content could ALWAYS be a symbiotic relationship, but because sourcing back to the original creator of something is so uncommon, it's just easier to ask people not to repost it at all. and people still don't understand the difference. or they'll go to the effort of cropping out usernames/signatures to repost something, which is More Effort than literally crediting the creator of something you liked enough to want to repost. Like. I literally don't actually care if my own shit gets reposted, you have to understand. I just don't want it STOLEN. But "do not repost" is easier to write on my art than "you can repost this, but don't alter the image/remove my signature, don't you dare write 'credit goes to the artist' because that is not credit, please link back to my original post or someplace that you can actually find me. please use an actual link/url instead of writing a non-clickable link of my username, because making it text instead of a clickable link cuts the number of people who will go to the effort of visiting my own page in Half." All those aggregate themed accounts, those fuckin annoying as hell instagrams and facebook groups that are like "body positive art we love wamen 💕 hashtag feminism" and then MASS-STEAL plus sized art created by women, if pages like these that always go and steal my older self-portraits and other works... If they just put a link to my prints of those pieces in the text of those posts, or, fuck, my commission info page? I would literally be living on the moon right now. I would have a house on the moon

#there is actually nothing morally wrong with running an account that just reuploads ppl's artwork or their jokes or their cosplays #if you just put a VISIBLE LINK in the description of your post with proper credit then it would be beneficial for everyone #because you can get your little clout or whatever it is you want by putting a bunch of same-category content on a page #but nobody's getting fucked over because if your post blows up then people just get FUNNELED to the source #because it's placed so plainly where everyone can see it #and yeah it's better to retweet or reblog but #on the rare occasion that I see my shit reuploaded on tumblr WHICH IS WEIRD BC I MAKE MY OWN POSTS HERE but anyway #someone making their own post where they upload my stuff. and it's always the floral self portraits so let's say it's a post with all those #if I scroll to the bottom and it says like. A little help please

Greetings

I'm not one to write or tell things about my life here, but I'm here to ask for a little help.

To explain myself, I would have to tell you that the computer I currently work with art and comics is not mine, it belongs to a friend of my father who lent it to him during the pandemic (2020) so that he could work from home and I would have a place to do my University's homework. It's not a super-cool computer but it got us out of trouble back then.

It's been a while since then, but last year my dad has mentioned the idea of returning it soon. The problem with that is that if he does then I won't have anywhere to draw or work or study.

My current job as a graphic designer and illustrator from home depends entirely on this computer, which in itself is not very good…

The monitor burns my eyes after a certain time, the memory and processor is limited so it does not support several programs, it does not have a graphics card and even the mouse has started to fail recently.

This is why I come here to ask for a little help… I have a goal of approximately $400 to buy a new computer (including a good monitor, but not a keyboard or mouse). The budget is not fixed due to the constant changes in the country's economy that make it difficult to save in the long term. But if we get over that line I admit it would be something great…

I am willing to work on commissions to reach the goal, I plan to organize my time between work and studies for that. Unfortunately I am in the process of writing my thesis so sometimes it will take time, but if you are willing to wait I promise to put all my heart into my drawings.

I'll be doing special commissions, some discounts, YCH, adoptables and maybe giveaways… Whatever comes to my mind at the moment, so stay tuned.
