Gender Headcanon: Cis girl! I don't really see her having any sort of desire to explore her gender, and it'd probably be heavily discouraged for. Obvious reasons by her managers. I think she might have a brief she/they phase in the future but she'll be one of the cis people who unlock cis+.

A BROTP I have with said character: Honestly. In a better life, I could see her and Chihiro being solid friends. Starts as Sayaka going to Chihiro for some coding advice for one of her managers but they hit it off and become besties.

A NOTP I have with said character: Oh fandom may not like me for this but. I do not ship most of the major ships for Sayaka. Naegi/Sayaka is not nearly portrayed as fucked up as it should be in my eyes, Leon/Sayaka just flat out gets all of my dislike, and Sayaka/Mukuro, while intriguing, just...does not spark joy and yet seems to be everywhere.

A random headcanon: Sayaka's favorite Pokemon is Magikarp! She never wound up owning a system to play any Pokemon games herself (and didn't have a lot of time besides!), but so many fans proceeded to ask her that her managers had her look at a poster of the first 151 Pokemon and she picked the pathetic orange fish. She loves it dearly, and while she claims that Gyarados is scary, she's actually just as fond of Gyarados as she is of Magikarp.

General Opinion over said character: I am so normal about Sayaka Maizono, Cheebs. So normal. Promise. Anyway I have been a fan of this girl for well over a decade at this point, this is my emotional support minor character and I want to watch her either be happy or be miserable. Favorite thing about them: Honestly I love how much of a menace he was. He would be brooding at trees or calling ricky out with no remorse and it was the funniest thing ever (let's be real ricky deserved the gina lashings lmao). But then we get these two second glances of him being soft- especially with ricky- that really reflect the kristoff/sven dynamic and it just made Jet have a special place in your heart. I love characters like that: the hard shell but there is still good somewhere deep down that is shown in fragments (draco malfoy, anyone?)

Least favorite thing about them: I know it's not Jet's fault totally for outting Maddox, but I still don't love that he said something about her dating someone in the first place. Yes, they started to grow apart seemingly before this, but there is this trust they had established and Jet doing that because he was mad at his parents (and couldn't get his way) was low.

Something I expect from them season 4 (if applicable): Before s4 came out, I fully anticipated Jet to be like Zeke... fawning over Kourtney (Sharpay). Like we did get some moments of him making a total fool of himself, but I really thought we were going to get that multiplied by 3. I was also hoping for at least a Jetney cheek kiss (tbh I thought they would kiss and Madlyn wouldn't), but they were just slower moving than the rest of the couples in the show. However, when all was said and done, I was still really happy with the content we got!

Random Headcanon: In my mind Jetney, Rina, and Madlyn go on triple dates all the time. They found a way to spend a lot of time together before Kourtney and Ricky graduated, but after graduation, Jet flies out to visit Kourtney frequently (and vice-versa).

Unpopular Opinion: Oof... this one is definitely unpopular. I guess it's an old unpopular opinion since it was technically before s4, but I remember not really caring if Jet and Maddox came back for s4. 😬 I know a lot of people liked them and wanted them back super badly, but I was neutral. I was happy if they came back but wasn't heartbroken if they didn't. Tim tried to keep it a surprise but the last scene in s3 made it obvious they were coming back. Once I started writing with them in my fics I was a lot more excited to have them back but I definitely wasn't emotionally tied to them when the season ended.

Song I associate with them: "I'm Still Standing"... but the version from Sing. I already said this once and I am so sorry for this, but Jet singing "Right Place" reminds me so much of Johnny at the piano. I really think it's the leather jacket idk. 😭 (the funny part is EJ's name is Elton John and Elton John is one of the singers in the og "I'm Still Standing")

Character ask: Simba (The Lion King)

These answers are for the original film and stage musical only: it's been too many years since I saw Simba's Pride, I've never seen The Lion Guard, and I have reservations about the 2019 remake.

Favorite thing about them: I don't think I can name just one thing: he's just an engaging, well-rounded character over all. He goes through an epic coming-of-age journey in the vein of stories from the Bible, Shakespeare, and various myths (not to mention Bambi), with poignant themes of grief, guilt, and responsibility. Yet the fact that he's playful and mischievous, even as an adult, makes him likable, and the fact that he's clever but not always wise makes him interesting. More so than if he had just been a wide-eyed innocent. Yes, he's far from perfect – he can be arrogant and reckless as a cub, and he runs from his duty as an adult – but neither are most of the time-honored heroes whom he parallels, like Hamlet, Gilgamesh, Joseph son of Jacob, or Moses. The fact that we follow him from childhood to adulthood also makes him an especially appealing, relatable character for child viewers. What more can I say?

Least favorite thing about them: His refusal at first to go back to Pride Rock and reclaim the throne from Scar. His reason why is understandable and sympathetic, but still, he almost leaves all the animals in the Pride Lands, including his long-lost mother, to starve to death under Scar's brutal reign.

Three things I have in common with them:

Random headcanon: When Mufasa says "One day the sun will set on my time here and will rise with you as the new king," Simba sincerely doesn't realize that this means he'll only be king after his father dies. Children often don't understand euphemisms. He thought Mufasa only meant that one day his time as king would end and Simba would take his place. So when he sings "I Just Can't Wait to Be King," he's not singing "I just can't wait for Dad to die." The fact that just a few hours later, he asks Mufasa "And we'll always be together, right?" shows that he hasn't registered that someday they won't. (This might not be a headcanon, but just plain canon – I'm just tired of hearing people complain "Simba looks forward to his dad's death.")

Unpopular opinion: His journey doesn't "lack a middle": his childhood and his adulthood are two separate journeys in and of themselves. The fact that the film skips over his years in the jungle with Timon and Pumbaa takes away nothing from his character development. If you analyze his character arc based on the template of the Hero's Journey by Joseph Campbell, his childhood until his father's death covers only the first stage of the journey ("The Ordinary World," establishing the world the hero has always known). The majority of the stages ("The Call to Adventure," "Refusal of the Call," "Meeting the Mentor," "Crossing the First Threshold," etc.) take place later. I've also written my own analysis of his character arc (which I'll share in a separate post), according to a different "hero's journey" template, inspired by Campbell's but not identical to it: the Masculine Journey from Victoria Lyn Schmidt's 45 Master Characters. This template makes more sense of the length of time spent in Simba's childhood than using the Campbell template does – his childhood scenes and his adulthood scenes each consist of a complete Masculine Journey-style character arc. Each arc includes every one of the stages ("The Perfect World," ""Friends and Enemies," etc.), with his childhood journey ending in what Schmidt calls "Rebellion" and "Failure," while his adulthood journey ends in "Awakening" and "Victory." His teenage years would have been completely irrelevant to include, either (from the Campbell perspective) because his journey really starts in his adulthood and his childhood is only a long prologue, or (from the Schmidt perspective) because the years in the jungle are only a bridge from his first complete journey to his second one. I hope this hasn't been too heady and confusing, but whenever some critic complains that Simba's character arc "has no middle," I want to give them a scholarly essay explaining why they're wrong.

His compassion, his kindness and his empathy. The fact that he was one of the strongest yet he never boasted about it. Also how much he cared for Itachi

Least favorite thing about them

His death, and not because I wanted him to survive. As a writer myself, I understand the need to kill off certain characters for specific things to happen, in this case the massacre and everything after that, but it's the How that I hate.

For someone who is remembered for being one of the strongest, best genjutsu user ever and many other things, his death was so... Underwhelming. And yes, he didn't expect for Danzō to attack him, but still I feel like he shouldn't have gone down as easily as he did.

Favorite line

From Itachi's novel, this specific moment of Shisui talking to Itachi about why he approached him and how much being around Itachi helped him after his teammate's death

Shipping and Me

So this was gonna be a different, more objective post. But it involved shipping, which is personal by nature. Thus, it grew ranty, and I had to turn it into something else- this.

I ship exactly one pairing that I am very quiet on. Sormik (Sorey x Mikleo, Tales of Zestiria) is the only pairing to date where I saw two characters who were not in a canon relationship and went “yeah- that’s the one for me”. It’s the only one that stuck.

It’s the only one of its kind.

I don’t really know what drove me to Sormik. Shipping- to me- is a difficult animal to navigate. At the risk of sounding cringe, it’s the most problematic aspect of fandoms- not merely for what it does to the characters, but how people behave in real life.

I’ll start with the first ship I discovered- Taito.

When I was a wee twelve-year-old fanthing, I found a one-page shrine (no longer active) singing the praises of Taito. I remember doing a private MST of it, so I have all its text saved. It was- a ride.

This page is for the couple of Tachi (Tai) and Yamato (Matt) from Digimon. This pairing is often called Taito or Yamachi. Taito is actually the reason I started watching Digimon in the first place, and is definitely my favorite part of the show. I had read about Taito on a site, so I figured I'd check out Digimon. The first few episodes I saw didn't have much in the way of hinting, so for a while I didn't know what these people were talking about. But once I saw the three major Taito-hinting episodes, I was a believer, and I totally fell in love with couple.

As this was my introduction to Taito, I have a complicated relationship with the ship. Today, I’m fine with if you ship it, as long as you don’t attack others. But I still seethe with the concept of checking out a show only for a single pairing, instead of for its other merits.

Five ships from Square Enix fandom caused further damage. These are all from Kingdom Hearts and Final Fantasy 7.

Soriku: My relationship with the ship itself is on again-off again. Right now, it’s off again, due to the rise of fans claiming not shipping it is homophobic. It takes two characters I like and makes navigating fandom spaces with them annoying to impossible.

Sokai: The violent ship wars Sokais get in with Sorikus makes me uncomfortable with the ship. The fact that it’s kind of shoehorned into canon doesn’t help it. But it’s mostly the ship war and the “if you ship this, you’re homophobic” propaganda from other fans.

AkuRoku: My first nOTP. There are so many problems with it (power imbalance, pedophilia, disturbing fan behavior). Back in the day, standing against this pairing made you homophobic. Today, that behavior is localized to Soriku.

CloTi/Clerith: I struggle with these two for basically the same reason- ship wars and violent fan behavior. I lean more CloTi than Clertih, because I got a CloTi game while playing FFVII. But I can’t actually commit to it. Choosing one of these pairings is choosing what weapon to wield against other fans.

It made shipping things awkward at best and rotten at worst. Choosing to ship or not ship something is a moral dilemma for me. It’s not just something done for funsies. It’s colored by how fans behave towards each other and towards characters they claim to love.

Here are the reasons I can’t really ship.

OOC Everywhere: Nothing makes me click out of a fic faster than Tai calling another character “babe”. It feels like someone else is speaking from his mouth. I’ve seen worse character perversions. The worse one- IMO- is turning a character into a “slut” who only cares about sex- especially when there’s no indication they would be into that. This happens to Sora so much and so badly. Other common victims I like include Ash Ketchum (of all people). Some of this is to make a pairing that Will Not Work work. Some of it is for kink. It depends on the pairing and the fan.

Lack of Independence: Some characters exist in fandom to be shipped. They are used for nothing else. This makes it impossible to find art or fic of them outside the shipping sphere. Matt from Digimon became this over the years.

Desperation for Canonicity: Some fans will fight tooth and nail for their pairing to be canon, using the most flimsy and pointless of evidence to hammer the point home. I’ve seen silly examples (they both wear jeans, there’s a connection to the Greek goddess of strife, etc.). But this desperation is so thick that I’ve seen people attack each other over it. This also leaks into unrelated fan analyses. Every time I spot this, I feel like the point of that analysis is to serve as a stealth ship manifesto.

Fandom Politics: Shipping some pairings is like joining a political party. Whenever a slash and het pairing are rivals, choosing the het pairing- even if it’s canon or makes more sense- makes the shipper homophobic. Choosing the slash pairing- even if it’s canon or makes more sense- leads to attacks from the other camp saying you’re delusional. Even rival ships that are the same species (two het or two slash) can engage in bloodbaths where the focus leaves the ship. It leads to horrific comments that are not about fandom. They’re personal attacks.

Problematic Ships: The issue with problematic or dark ships is not that they are problematic. Fiction is a place to safely explore dark themes. It becomes an issue when people who ship these pairings engage in the behaviors above- especially those that involve attacking real people. This includes rewriting a character into a rapist- especially when they show no indication of such- and defending it by attacking any naysayers. This pendulum swings both ways- people against these ships often behave in downright evil ways towards people who do.

For something built on the idea of characters falling in love, shippers spread a lot of hate. It wedges me out of a very central part of fandom. It forces me to the edge of fandom space. 

I admit I’ve never been in a real relationship. I’ve never had sex. I’ve never been in love. Maybe that’s why I don’t see the appeal of shipping. Even if I can’t see the appeal, I can see the hate. I understand hate. To me, shipping isn’t about love. It’s an excuse to get on a high horse. It’s about twisting the characters involved to your whims. It’s about using your ship as an excuse to bully real human beings for no fucking reason.

This is also a reason I’m terrified of publishing my own work. I’m afraid of my characters being perverted. I’m afraid of them being used to drive people to attack each other. Sometimes, I fantasize about my work saving someone’s life. What if online bullying centered on it crosses the line? What if that behavior leads someone to take their life instead?

I can’t live with that.

This isn’t just Tumblr. This is every single online space. This is Twitter. This was LiveJournal. This is deviantArt and A03 and fan sites. This is a problem that runs deep through fan culture. I’m sure it has roots in the old days when cease and desist letters were a heavy weight on fandom, in homophobic practices that effect real people, and in the impulsive nature of Internet spaces. I’m sure there’s more reasonable factors I’m not considering. But just because it has an understandable origin doesn’t make it acceptable.

Outside the Sormik outlier (which I’ve only mentioned maybe five times online, including this rant), I try to avoid shipping anything. I just respect the ships that aren’t batshit and stay in my lane. Silent. Out of the way.

The only way to win this game is to avoid playing.

About moderating and banning content on AO3!

Okay so! I haven’t had the spoons to do this for a while but I cracked and ranted about it on twitter which is... not... conducive to long rants, so!

This is a h u g e discussion part of the l o n g history that led to the creation of AO3, which older, more informed, and more articulate people have talked about at length and can be found around if you look (I reblog some of it in my AO3 and fandom history tags for the curious). So I won’t go into that here, nor into the practical reasons why it’s not even possible to put that system in place anyway.

Arbitrarily, or the purpose of this post, because it’s the biggest topic I’ve seen brought up lately, I’ll be talking about fic depicting underage characters in se*ual situations, but honestly I could hold the exact same conversation on literally any controversial content.

This is about why you, specifically, if you are a content creator and especially if you are marginalised and especially if you are queer and especially especially if you are sensitive to fiction depicting certain things... do not, actually, want a banning system on AO3.

What? Of course we do. There’s a lot of p*do shit on AO3 and p*do shit is gross. No one should condone that, wtf? It would be easy to do — just periodically delete the entire Underage tag!

What will happen if that is done is that people will re-upload and continue to write it, they’ll just stop tagging and you will run into it with zero warning nor ability to filter it out. Again, this is not a theoretical — we know this is what happens. When I was a teen, adult content (all adult content) was not allowed on FF.NET; it was everywhere regardless, and without tags. The exact same thing happened on tumblr when adult content was banned as well. It’s not a matter of “staff not handling it well” — it just doesn’t work.

To keep safe the people who need to be able to exclude that tag, that tag needs to exist and be used.

Well, shucks. A reporting system then?

A reporting system would operate in one of two ways:

-an algorithm, which would delete a lot of stuff we wouldn’t want it to delete.

-humans, which is... the bigger problem.

An algorithm sounds great. We do want it to delete everything.

Okay. What about the daddy k*nk fics between consenting adult characters? What about the fics featuring characters that are children in the canon but are adults in the fic? What about the fics about teenagers exploring their se*uality together, written by adults about the experiences they remember having or wish they could have had? What about the thousands of SasuNaru and Drarry and other shounen and YA fics that will get written, by teens or by people who remember being teens? What about the se*ually explicit fic written by teens who are se*ually active in real life? What about the fics about CSA as trauma, about healing from it? What about the fics written by survivors of CSA to cope about their trauma? What about the fics that clearly show that it’s evil and traumatic? What about the super dark, harrowing, but beautiful and artistic that I’m glad I read even though it fucked me up for days? What about the ones that were really shitty but also horribly hot?

Well, some of these are still not okay, but maybe some might be. It depends on how it’s written. We’ll have humans moderating content and deciding, then.

Okay.

The thing is, I don’t know which of the things I just listed were okay for you to be depicted in fiction and which were too much. Odds are I don’t agree with you. Odds are if I asked 10 people randomly picked off the street, not everyone would agree.

Odds are, even if AO3 arbitrarily decided on which of those are allowed and which are not, you would not agree with their choice, and you would still be unhappy with the decision. (Or you would be happy, but your friends wouldn’t.)

Odds are, different AO3 content moderators might not agree on whether a given fic qualifies or not — is it artistic enough? Does it show enough that these actions are evil and wrong? Can the author prove they’re a teenager? Can the author prove they are a CSA victim? Can the author prove that this is to help them cope with their trauma? The author seem to be functioning alright, they mustn’t really be traumatised!

You know what I mean! There’s absolute, objectively gross shit out there that is not artistic and should not be published.

I agree that there’s vile stuff out there that makes me sick and that I think is very clearly just ped*philic trash. But there is no way to, 1) stop those from getting published anyway, 2) take those down and preserve the safety of everything else.

If we start forbidding some things, there’s two ways to go about it.

One single, clear, arbitrary rule — for instance, absolutely no adult content featuring characters under 18 (leaving aside the fact that this would not even work for the reason cited above). So we lose all the stuff from teenagers, all the coming of age stories about adolescence, all the stuff from CSA survivors; people who need to write it can’t publish it anymore, and people who need to read it can’t anymore either (and as a cool bonus, they’re told it’s wrong and made to feel bad about it). Depending on whether the rules applies to characters that are under 18 in the canon, we lose entire fandoms.

Or, subjective moderation by humans, according to what they estimate to be gross.

Let’s assume all moderators can agree on what’s gross or not.

If there is a system in place to ban some underage works because “gross shit”, then that means other gross stuff can be taken down on account of being gross and harmful.

Yeah! Gross stuff should be taken down! Come on, surely everyone agrees on what’s gross and harmful.

Ah.

But the problem is.

Here is a list of things I have seen — with my eyes seen — called harmful to be depicted in fiction:

Murder

Non-con

Inc*st

Cannibalism

Torture

Self-harm

Mental illness

Drugs

Racism

K*nk

Non-negotiated k*nk, but healthy k*nk is ok

Spanking k*nk

BDSM where the woman is a bottom, but woman top is ok

Healthy depictions of BDSM

Unhealthy depictions of BDSM

Queer people doing bad things

Abusive relationships

Rival/Enemies to lovers

Redemption stories

A happy relationship between a 17 yo and an 18 yo

A happy relationship between a 20 yo and a 60 yo

A happy relationship between a boss and their employee, or a college teacher and a student

A happy relationship between a 14 yo boy and an older teenage boy, because that’s reminiscent of older men preying on younger gay boys IRL

Se*ual content featuring a character whose age is unclear in canon and some people headcanon them as being underage, some as being a young adult

Loving, consensual fluff between characters that are evil villains, because it romanticises them and their actions

Dark content shipping female characters

Fluffy content shipping female characters, because it’s misogynistic to act like lesbians are only soft all the time

Consensual s*x featuring a canonically asexual character, because it implies that all aces can and should still have se*

Fics about the same canonically asexual character hating s*x, because that erases the experience of s*x-positive aces

Shipping a character who is perceived by some fans as queer-coded with a character of a different s*x

The tendency to ship a black character with white characters

Fluffy drunk s*x, because that’s not actually consensual

Sleep s*x, because that’s not actually consensual

Trans characters not experiencing dysphoria, because that idealises the trans experience

Consensual s*x between adults that are not married

LGBT+ content, because kids shouldn’t see that.

I guarantee you: you, I, and 10 random people plucked from the street will not agree on what, in that list, is and isn’t okay to publish and consume fiction of.

So why should your taste be the one followed? Why should it be the taste of mods you don’t know? Why should anyone get to dictate? What if the mods think your OTP is gross and your NOTP is fine?

This is the slippery slope argument.

Yes, it is the slippery slope argument. Because we know it happens. Because we’ve been there, because I’ve seen it happen myself twice already and I’m not even thirty. Because we know people do complain loudly about all of these things.

And because the second there is a banning system in place, assholes will use the system to abuse it and get stuff they just don’t like taken down using the “it is gross” argument, and one day you’ll wake up and the beautiful fic that helped you come to terms with your abuse/trauma/identity/orientation/k*nk for feet will be taken down and wonderful vulnerable creative people will have been harassed out of fandom because they argued with 1 person who didn’t like their foot k*nk fic that happened to also feature, for instance, a CSA trauma backstory.

Again: not exaggerating. Not theoretical. It happens, we know it happens, AO3 was created literally because it happens.

I still fucking hate that stuff.

That is completely fine and normal. No one likes everything. Me too! Most of the dark stuff is niche and the creators know only few people will like it the same way they do.

(For the record, I get grossed out and triggered by fics about an asexual character who does not like s*x having s*x with their partner to make them happy. Deep in my gut everything screams that that’s fucked up, terrifying and harmful, how can people write that. But I recognise that there are people who love and need that, and I leave those people and their content alone.

OTOH, I read a lot of otherwise dark shit and I enjoy it in the same way I enjoyed, say, Hannibal, in the same way some people enjoy true crime documentaries, horror movies or r*pe fantasy k*nk. It helps me explore stuff that I like to see in fiction, in a safe, controlled way. I’m also asexual, 90% s*x-repulsed IRL, and, obviously, I would never abuse a child. For that matter, I wouldn’t kill and eat people, either, nor would I do 90% of the tamer k*nky stuff I read.

Of course, Hannibal was fucked up and lots of people probably think Hannibal was gross and should not have been aired — but as exemplified by the fact that it was created, aired and watched, lots of people thought it was fine, interesting and even fun to watch.)

You can and should curate your experience and protect yourself. The AO3 website now allows you to exclude certain tags, and people have developed tools to help with that such as plugins that save your filters or hide fics that contain certain words.

But no, it isn’t going to, and it shouldn’t, get banned.

God there's too many things I love about Guzma, but I think my favorite has to do with Team Skull. Guzma came from a very toxic and abusive household, on top of feeling like he could never stack up because he couldn't be a Trial Captain, he couldn't make it past the Island Trials and then the team he was originally a part of got demolished. He saw that there were others like him -- misfits, kids from bad homes, kids who didn't feel like they were enough -- and he made his own family. He gave them a place of belonging and also created one of the greatest Pokemon "villain" teams ever, like, I'm sorry Team Skull is the greatest thing, but I love the layers and complexities of why he formed them and how it also really highlights his growth throughout the story. Like in USUM, you actually find him talking about how he's going to protect the people he cares about, even without being a Captain and even after disbanding Team Skull, meaning he's not abandoning them.

I don't necessarily think I have things that I dislike about Guzma specifically. There are things that break my heart about Guzma, such as his trauma responses of yanking his hair out and screaming "GUZMA, WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU" and it's definitely something that came from his childhood and his father's abuse. But there are story elements that I wish were done better for his story; I would've loved to have seen him get a cut scene with Gladion while Gladion was part of Team Skull, or even more information about how he and Lusamine teamed up (they talk about her being the only adult that ever showed him "respect" but we don't see it before he shows up at the Aether Foundation when Nebby and Lillie get kidnapped), maybe something in the post game with Team Skull reforming but this time as something new entirely, or how about maybe not let it be the next time you see him in Sun and Moon is at his abusive parents house, his dad beat him with golf clubs cOULD YOU NOT HAVE JUST SHOWN HIM AT PLUMERIAS HOUSE OR SOMETHING -- LET THE MAN HAVE SOME PEACE --

Guzma's the one who starts it at first, probably by himself because he's stubborn and determined, and then one by one there's a pour of people coming to help him, starting with Sun/Moon, Lillie, Hau, Hala, Nanu, the other Kahunas and Trial Captains, Plumeria and Team Skull, Kukui, everyone comes and helps make this a reality, with Guzma leading them on and I think it's after that that Nanu announces his retirement as Kahuna and Guzma is chosen by Tapu Bulu as the next Kahuna.

Favorite thing about them: The fact that he exists as an actual guardian angel to Cheryl? Granted the canon doesn't do much with this and in canon he probably doesn't actually care about her but I don't care, "Girl and her weird pet monster" is like my favorite friendship dynamic

Least favorite thing about them: How we just know so little about him and how he never appeared in another Silent Gill game outside of that weird dungeon-crawling spinoff, Book of Memories. And there he had no story significance, he just gave you missions. Pyramid Head is cool and all but PLEASE can we get some Valtiel content. He's the one that actually makes sense to see again since unlike PH he's not tied to one specific person's mind! But granted, I really want to see him be pals with Cheryl and they definitely won't do that since it wouldn't be scary.

Favorite line: He doesn't talk outside of giving you missions in Book of Memories. I like the noises you can hear him make in the cutscene where he retrieves dead Cheryl though. He's a snarly hissy boy

Favorite thing about them: Ugh, EVERYTHING. But I'll settle on his voice. John Hurt did such a good performance.

Least favorite thing about them: How little Disney actually acknowledges him. And that the only attraction that ever featured him is closed forever. One of the things I'd do if time travel were possible: Visit the Cinderella Castle Mystery Tour. One of the things I'd do if I were filthy rich: Buy whatever's left of his animatronic and have it restored for my own collection (or have a new one built if there's nothing left)

Favorite line: He doesn't have a bad line but I love the way he taunts the protagonists after capturing them. He's being sarcastic but the way he says it it doesn't even sound cocky, just cold. Shivers.

brOTP: I currently have him as besties with the other necromancers I've f/o'd -- Demongo and Licorice Cookie. For just Disney villains, I like the idea of him being reluctant pals with Madam Mim who just playfully annoys him. And I feel like he could lament over being a criminally underrated Disney villain with NOS-4-A2.

OTP: ME. ok but besides my selfship, Maleficent. I just...think they're cool together.

Random headcanon: The gwythaints are like pets to him and they're descendants of the ones Arawn used to torment into obedience. They're one of the only living things he's kind to.

Unpopular opinion: Uh...IDK. Honestly at this point I think just liking him as a villain is an unpopular opinion because a lot of people either don't even know about him or think he's nothing special. In that case maybe my unpopular opinion is that I actually really like the movie he's from and would love to see it attempted again (preferably still animated but I would settle for a live-action adaptation as long as it uses good practical effects everywhere it can.)

Song I associate with them: I have a whole playlist but my go to song is Hail To The King ~ Avenged Sevenfold.

Favorite thing about them: The fact that she's both a bitch and probably one of the most gentle people you'll meet? She'll put up with none of your bullshit and will attack you for your bullshit, but also will actively make sure someone is finding the help they need and comforting a small child when necessary.

Least favorite thing about them: This is kinda hard for me because I love her dearly, but probably the over reliance on the whip? The 'whip is how i say hello' just, doesn't feel entirely right...

Favorite line: 1. The Entire Airport scene between her and Edgeworth is just *chefs kiss* 2. "... Don't you Americans enjoy doing whatever you like and then simply say, "Whatever!?""(3-5)

brOTP: PHOENIX AND FRANZISKA ARE SUCH AN UNDERRATED FRIENDSHIP!! Their entire section together in 3-5 is one of my favorites and they have such a good dynamic bouncing off each other that entire case. Also the Von Karma siblings own my heart but I feel like that should go without saying.

OTP: Franmaya, 1000% Franmaya. They are such good dramatic foils and parallels to each other that its impossible not to see how well they play off each other and how easy it for one of them to have becomes similar to the other with just a change in upbringing just UGH THEM

nOTP: Anyone who ships Franziska Romantically with Edgeworth deserves nothing but the worse. They are literally siblings, they are literally related don't do that no no no.

Random headcanon: This one is kinda stolen from a joke from UTIL but Franziska only learned one insult in English (In this case fool) and that's why she uses it so religiously. The non-stolen one is that Franziska still has her riding crop, it travels everywhere with her and she will sometimes favorite it over her whip if she needs to be discreet.

Unpopular opinion: I... don't really think I have one? Maybe the fact that I tend to think people characterize her too much around her whip and the word fool, but that might be it.
