So I finished (2 months ago) the Hulu series "Marvel's Helstrom". (Which is actually fully good, brought MORE recognition). To this day, I haven't been intensively involved with the series until a flash of inspiration came to me. I saw this picture:

I'm not so sure about this parallel, but both would be sought by 3 people. In Mary's fall, there would be 3 kings in the East. In Gabriella's case, there were 3 demons in human bodies. In Mary's case, Joseph was also the "father" to the child. With Gabriella, the "father" was indirectly there. So I don't know if that counts as a parallel.

I know I know Marvel's Helstrom won't have another season, but WHY did I have the theory if they make a Midnightson movie/series that Kthara aka. Lily (and maybe Satan) are the villains. The one at Kthara's Wiki post: https://marvelcinematicuniverse.fandom.com/wiki/Kthara at Trivia she also as Lilith (the first woman in the world before Eve was Lilith) and play the villain in an upcoming Ghost Rider, I could imagine that the Midnightsons (like in the comics) have to fight against Ktahra. My theory, if that happens, that like Jesus, she sacrifices herself for the demons and dies as a sign. Satan wants to calculate 100% and the Midnightsons have to bond with the Helstrom siblings to stop it.

Thoughts on Helstrom s01

First of all, I’d like to thank @i-sudoku for letting me know that the TV show was already released. I totally missed that.

Secondly, I’m not the most qualified person to talk about Daimon and Satana. I’ve read a few things about them, mostly Defenders and some solo runs, but that’s all. Only touched Thunderbolts once because of Stephen. So my opinion is not reliable. But then again, when is it at all?

That said, let’s talk about the son and daughter of Satan.

My first impression when I see the characters is, they decided to portray a more realistic version of their traits. For that reason, I’m not upset Daimon doesn’t have pointy ears or Satana isn’t a succubus. In fact, I’m not even upset that Satana is called Ana because, again, it’s a realistic choice. But big shoutout to their last name ‘cause it’s not correct. It’s Hellstrom*. Was it a typo? I understand that many people get their name wrong even in comics but... it’s a TV show about them...

So the story is very loyal to their toxic relationship with their father. I know Satana used to be pretty “okay” with those horrible things (because she’s a twisted character already), yet I like how the story brought the siblings together to face a horrible trauma, adapting that from canon. I don’t understand, though, why writers switched their personalities. Daimon is the one supposed to have anger issues, while Satana is more “composed”, in a very limited sense.

Overall, the characters are all great (except for Gabriella, I’ll get to her soon). I understand that this Caretaker is a different version from the Caretaker from Ghost Rider (both comics and yes, that movie with Nicolas Cage that my friend forced me to watch but it turns out it’s cool if you ignore cringy Cage). I like this version of the character and it makes lots of sense if [spoiler] you consider Kthara’s true name. Midnight Sons? Darkhold? Yes.

I love how this series is about family and building healthy relationships. Daimon is constantly trying to reach out for Ana while he deals with guilt for letting his father take her and also for locking his possessed mother away. Ana is trying to cope with the trauma and fear of being like her father while she hides her feelings in a cold and mean attitude. Chris is the sweetest friend who will support Ana and care about her. Louise is the mother figure and a strong woman who tries to protect Daimon but also lies to people under the assumption that she’s protecting them. Henry is the father figure who’s too afraid to get close to Ana, but he’s trying his best. And Victoria... I have mixed feelings so I’m not commenting on her. They’re all part of a dysfunctional family, trying to cope with trauma and the supernatural.

And this is awesome because, while the series is about literal demons, the story is focused on the characters’ dynamics and growth. It’s about building healthy relationships with love and affection. It’s brilliant. I love how it’s done. Daimon is so sweet. Of course, he’s sarcastic all the time and a bit of a jerk toward people he doesn’t trust, also he makes some mistakes. But he’s trying his best for his family. He apologies and seeks improvement.

The only thing that TRULY bothers me is Gabriella. She was introduced as a, pardon the pun, true believer who would blindly follow the Church. She’s just curious and obstinate, and that’s it. She’s the literal damsel in distress all the freaking time because she just wants to be next to Daimon, but she can’t fight and she can’t think how she’ll protect herself from demons. She’s 100% counting on Daimon. She begins to see the true colors of the Church and what she does? She blames herself with aaaaall the Christian guilt trip. She was [tw] r*ped [/tw] and became just a tool for a birth. Also that’s another thing that bothers me. All the demon possessions are not consensual. I’d rather they were, like a deal that went wrong, for instance. Lastly, in the end, after all the trauma of giving birth just like Bella in Twilight (or Rosemary, like they referenced), Gabriella went full racist and joined The Blood. Her character arc is trash. It’s terrible and I hate it.

That said, OST is incredible. My violin heart went beyond happiness. The visual effects are also pretty nice. We did have a few seconds of Daimon’s trident, I wish there were more moments like this. The cast? Perfection. Ana and Daimon can both step on me anytime. Also representation? Hell yeah!

In conclusion? Helstrom is like Supernatural only better because it’s not homophobic nor sexist nor racist. I’m satisfied and maybe, only maybe, I could say it was one of the best Marvel’s TV shows. I watched every single one of them so yeah... I could say that. Ten episodes of nearly one hour each and you don’t get tired. They flow naturally and only few scenes are truly expendable. They did it out of love and it shows. Sadly, Disney+ took over the world and we’re not getting a second season. It is what it is.

9/10. Totally recommended. Just... friendly reminder that it has TONS of jump scares, so if you’re just like me, a person who truly hates jump scares witth all their might, proceed carefully.

Also, as I said, I’m not a hardcore fan. This is, after all, a blog dedicated to Stephen. So feel free to disagree or point out facts about these characters. I’d be really grateful to learn more.

PS: post about MCU’s magic and how it relates to Doctor Strange was updated. I also watched New Mutants but I will NOT comment on that. I will NOT, even though it breaks my heart.

Spoilers. TW: sexual assault

I loved it. I don’t know anything about the comic book but from what I hear it has little to nothing to do with it - which is probably the reason why Marvel is refusing to acknowledge its existence. And I don’t care. I loved the series. It reminded me of Supernatural with the siblings and family, both found and biological, themes. And that was right up my alley!

What I didn’t like was Gabriella. She was slightly annoying from the start but back then I could at least understand where she was coming from. But at the end? Not anymore. Especially when she accused Daimon of being evil and blamed him for not being there for her - while he was possessed. Seriously?! Gabby got possessed first, then the thing inside her turned Daimon and in a rather violent way and then it forced itself on Daimon. Daimon was as much of a victim in this as she was but somehow, Gabriella turned that all into his fault. Boggles the mind, seriously.

Also, if I get it right, Daimon is now the biological father of his own demonic sister... Well, crap. Talk about effed up family dynamics. US soap operas have nothing on that.

My favorite moments where definitely the one on one scenes between Daimon and Ana because Tom and Sydney’s chemistry was amazing. Their back and forth was fascinating to watch. And when Daimon then got possessed and Ana had to save him... by stabbing him! Gosh, her “Don’t you goddamn die on me now” was awesome. I live for stuff like that!

I highly doubt that there will be S2 because critics, apparently, hated the show. Don’t understand why but... well. I guess your enjoyment of the series might depend on your expectations. I had none when I started it, I only decided to watch it because of Tom Austen, and I can say I enjoyed it thoroughly.

I'm careful not to read text posts about Helstrom because it's development from a comic and people make it a point to hate everything developed from comics.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, primarily because of Ana and Louise.

I did like Daimon though. I was really pleasantly surprised when his character turned out to be more compassionate, empathetic and openly vulnerable than I initially thought he would be. It helped create a really intense and intriguing sibling dynamic between him and Ana, who was completely emotionally cut off. A bit of a swapping of typical (cis) male and female characterizations.

I think it'll be a great Halloween binge.

8/10. One point deducted because Gabriella was useless until the VERY end and all she finally got to do [SPOILER ALERT] was have a baby. Yes, it's more complicated than that. Yes, it IS ultimately an interesting plot and she does in fact transform in a way that implies she's going to be hella exciting next season (🤞🏾). And, yes, I know it's likely all canon but I wish she'd just gotten to do more than tag along for most of the season. One point deducted for the "mentally ill people are inherently scary" trope (it is mainly set in a psychiatric hospital but you know... still).

Nincs Hans Zimmer?); a párbeszéd nagy része változó leírású maszkokon keresztül zajlott (# covid-megfelelő). Aaron Taylor-Johnson különösen érthetetlen volt a fülem számára. Összességében tanácsos lehet ezt felirattal megnézni egy különleges bemutatón! Rendben, szóval csak fizikával rendelkezem PhD-vel … de időnként teljesen el voltam tévedve a cselekmény bonyodalmait illetően. Az „Inception” úgy nézett ki, mint „A tigris, aki teázni jött”. Volt egy nyilvánvaló „McGuffin” a „Kezdetben” — — („Ezek az„ álomszintek ”… hogyan épülnek pontosan?”…. „Ne aggódj … soha nem fogják észrevenni”. És mi nem! ) A „Helstrom” -ban McGuffins vannak fészkelve McGuffins-ban. Annyi mindent véletlenül elhessegetnek, mint „jövőbeli dolgokat … nem vagy képesítve”, hogy homályosan leereszkedőnek érzi a közönséget. Egyik pillanatban Sator azt mondja Katnak: “Ugye nem tudod, mi folyik itt?” és értetlenül rázza a fejét. Igazunk van veled ott luv! A sztoriban hiányosságok is vannak. A „Helstrom” szó? Mit jelent. Csak jelszó? Senki sem vagyok bölcsebb. A mániás Helstrom üteme és az állandó din azt jelenti, hogy a film úgy vágtat végig, mint egy szétkapcsolódó (bár ragyogó) akciókészlet darabja. Számomra a Cobb házassági problémáinak egyik érzelmi szíve sincs a „Kezdettől” vagy az „Interstellar” apa / lánya elválasztásától kezdve. Valójában alig érdekel senki a filmben, talán Kat kivételével. Tehetséges színészgárda. Mint fentebb említettük, John David Washington izmos és sportos a szerepben. Nagy teher a színész számára egy ilyen sátoroszlopos filmben, tekintve, hogy az egyetlen jelentős főszerepe korábban a kiváló BlacKkKlansman volt. De jól leviszi. Gerard Butler és Jason Statham méltó utódja az elkövetkező 10 évben. Ez egyben Robert Pattinson remek teljesítménye is, hosszú ideje leghangosabb filmjében, a homályosan alkoholista és Carré-jellegű támogató srácot alakítva. A Pattinson-féle Potter főszereplője, Clemence Poésy is felbukkan — inkább a szokásosnál kevésbé csillogva -, mint a film elején a tudós cselekmény-expozíciója. Nolan rendes Michael Caine is felbukkan. bár a 87 éves legenda kezdi megmutatni korát: Beszéde nyilvánvalóan érintett volt a forgatás idején (bár jó próbálkozás, Mr. Nolan megpróbálta ezt elfedni egy tele szájjal!). De a könyvemben bármilyen mennyiségű Caine egy filmben plusz. A sznobizmusról szóló film legjobb gyilkos sorozatát is eljuttathatja! Azonban Kenneth Branagh és Elizabeth Debicki igazán kiemelkednek. Mindketten mesések voltak, főleg, amikor a házassági csatairályájukban elrugaszkodtak egymástól. Szóval, tekintettel arra, hogy ez volt az év legjobban várt filmje, ez számomra egy kicsit a kurátor tojása. Keveréke annak, hogy időnként félelmetesnek találja magát, és másokban kissé csalódik. Amit azonban tudok, az a következő: Helstrom története meglehetősen dinamikus abban az értelemben, hogy addig nem fogja megérteni, amíg nem akarja. Tehát az első félévben az agyad tippekért és darabokért küzd, hogy összeszedjék a történetet. Csak a film felénél hívja meg Helstrom Christopher Nolan fantasztikus történetmesélését. A színjátszás meghaladja a fenomenális szintet, és valóban meglepődnék, ha sem Robert Pattinson, sem John David Washington nem kapná meg a legjobb színész Oscar-jelölését. Azt is nehéz megemlíteni, hogy Elizabeth Debicki és Aaron Johnson milyen jók. Körülbelül remek színészi játék és a párbeszéd növeli a film minőségét. A film ötlete rohadtul lenyűgöző, és bár vannak olyan filmek, amelyek időutazást fedeznek fel, még soha nem volt ilyen. Olyan gyönyörű varázsa van, és javarészt mindent alaposan elmagyaráz. You thought movies were the only place to get your daily dose of horror? Oh you fool! You absolute FOOL! There are plenty of bingeworthy and scary horror TV shows out there and Hulu just happens to be a great place to find them.

Hulu is home to recent hits like The Terror and Castle Rock but there are still more scares to be found for the horror enthusiast willing to dig deep. Gathered here are some of the best and scariest horror TV shows that Hulu has to offer.

The Terror

Based on a 2007 book of the same name by Dan Simmons, The Terror season 1 tells a fictionalized account of Captain Sir John Franklin’s expedition to the arctic in 1845. In real life, the doomed men likely got lost and succumbed to the cold but the show asks “what if there was something more sinister than low temperatures lurking about?”

The Terror features a cast impressively full of “hey it’s that guy” guys like Jared Harris, Ciarán Hindis, and Tobias Menzes. It deftly turned itself into an anthology with the second season The Terror: Infamy that tells a ghost story within the setting of a Japanese interment camp in World War II.

American Horror Story

Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story is revolutionary in quite a few ways. Not only did it help usher in a renewed era of anthology storytelling on television, it also was arguably the first successful network television horror show since The X-Files.

Like all anthologies, American Horror Story has its better seasons (season 1 a.k.a. Murder House, season 2 a.k.a. Asylum, season 6 a.k.a. Roanoke) and its worse (season 3 a.k.a. Coven and season 8 a.k.a. Apocalypse). Still, for nine years and counting, American Horror Story has been one of the go-to options for TV horror fans.

Castle Rock

Stephen King properties have made their way to television before. There have been miniseries for classic King texts like The Stand and ‘Salem’s Lot and even full series for works like Rose Red and Under the Dome. Still, none of those series has had the audacity to adapt multiple aspects of the Stephen King universe itself…until Castle Rock.

Castle Rock takes multiple characters, storylines, and concepts from the vast works of Stephen King and puts them all in King’s own Castle Rock, Maine. The first season featured inmates from Shawshank prison, extended family of Jack Torrance, and maybe even a touch of the shine. The show opened itself up for more storytelling possibilities in season 2, adopting an anthology format and bringing Annie Wilkes into the fold.
