[ID Photos of a three small clay horses painted to look like horses from the Lascaux Cave paintings. They all have a stocky build and simplified features. Each photo shows a different angle. End ID]
Bought a big book on the Lascaux Caves to use as a reference while painting. (The Cave of Lascaux: The Final Photographs by Mario Ruspoli - ended up getting a German copy because the English one is expensive but it is available on the Internet Archive). I made each of these at different times and then painted them altogether which is why they're so varied. Wanted to use acrylics as I've been painting sculptures with gouache because it keeps a rougher look, and I was worried acrylics would look too shiny and plastic but that wasn't the case so I've been making things unnecessarily complicated. C'est la vie.

hey, long time admirer of your stuff! ive just been wondering, though, how exactly do you do your eyes? like.. obviously they're different from character to character, but how do you usually form them and whatnot?
thank you ! - 💥
heya thank you :) it's been a while since i answered one of these in depth but for you good anon i will try my best..... Here's the simple answer:
Tumblr media
Here is some more thought-process/behind the scenes stuff:
Tumblr media
Obviously head angle determines many things about drawing eyes; I've been trying harder to keep it in mind when I'm putting lines down, and it'll generally make them look more grounded/offer better depth. The main takeaway from head angle is how are the eye sockets oriented. Doing drawovers of photographs is a cheap+easy way to get a feel for this, but I wouldn't worry about 100% anatomical accuracy; what I'm trying to get a feel for is the placement of eyes versus the brow/nose bridges.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The amount of detail I put into eyes is wildly inconsistent haha it rly depends on the piece and art style, but the (for lack of a better word) "definition lines" and spots of black in deep shadow make up most of the detailed stuff. I'm still not great at drawing massively distinctive eye shapes but I try to maintain a general sense of one for different faces (ex. Rectangular, narrow, round, angled up or down). I'll also be the first to admit it takes a lot of conscious thought to reproduce the same line variation/angles in someone's eyes each time you draw them, but if you're looking for advice on consistency those are examples of traits I'd keep in mind.
Tumblr media
That's it for the most part.... I don't think the way I draw eyes is particularly unique lol so here are a few things that have gotten me where I am:
other people's art, a lot of which is manga. when I say naruto taught me to draw im only half joking hwheeze. my art tastes lean towards manga/comic stylization so none of this is hugely realistic overall....
that being said, I do like the more realistic side of manga/comic art so photo studies/anatomy tips have still been useful to me
this tutorial by sinix is one of my favorite things ever, because it explicitly discusses both anatomical knowledge AND how to translate that into shorthand
thanks for the ask!

sorry for being delusional but I don’t believe that house was (exclusively) referring to wilson’s ‘I should’ve been more like you’ monologue here. hear me out. what wilson said was scathing. it was cruel - not that it wasn’t understandable, given the circumstances, but STILL: there was nothing ‘bromantic’ about it, just as there is nothing overly schmaltzy about apologising for harsh remarks. how exactly is it sentimental to say “Sorry I told you that you deserve cancer”? house is witty. he could find 100 ways to say “I don’t want to discuss this right now.” but he specifically chooses to imply that they’re about to address something lovey-dovey. it’s almost like… wilson, in his delirium, confessed to something else. something that really IS bromantic, something that house REALLY doesn’t want to address because it would bring an onslaught of emotio[succumbs to the brainrot]

one of the things i'm so nervous about with s3e6 is that i 100% don't think we're going to get to see the rest of the "break up" conversation between wilhelm and simon. which means the start of the episode will have us all being super tense to know what actually happened and where they stand.
because that's the way the show works. it's a pattern. whenever we get an episode ending with any kind of cliffhanger, the next episode doesn't start with that same scene, it is always a later scene and we sometimes get explanations in that scene, and we sometimes get them even later, and we sometimes never get an explanation at all.
s1e1 -> s1e2: they lean towards each other at the party. the next episode begins with the on the table scene. did they kiss??? no, but we don't learn that until the end of s1e2.
s1e2 -> s1e3: they kiss. the next episode begins 3 days later. what happened after the kiss??? we never learn.
s1e5 -> s1e6: the video gets leaked. the next episode begins with Wilhelm and Simon in their own rooms. did Wilhelm tell Simon at the event??? we never learn.
s2e4 -> s2e5: Wilhelm and Simon kiss at the ball. the next episode begins with them both thinking about each other. did Simon still go to Marcus' house like planned??? no, we learn later in the episode.
s2e6 -> s3e1: Wilhelm's speech and Sara calling the police. the next episode begins with the legal negotiations. what was the immediate fallout of both the speech and the police report??? we never learn.
s3e4 -> s3e5: Wilhelm and August talking about Erik. the next episode begins with Wilhelm walking through the Palace. did they actually talk in therapy??? did they discuss Erik at all after this??? no, i don't think so, but we aren't actually ever told.
these are some of the more obvious examples i could quickly remember. but they make up my point nonetheless. the only times i can remember us getting any kind of immediate following scene are:
s1e4 -> s1e5: with Wilmon still in bed together. (but this ignores the whole August side-plot of the end of s1e4 which isn't acknowledged again until later in the episode, so it only mostly counts)
s2e3 -> s2e4: probably the MOST direct following scene despite how short it is. Wilhelm texting Felice that he doesn't think Henry will tell anyone.
s2e5 -> s2e6: similar to the s1 one, Wilmon are still together in Wilhelm's room.
so yeah. i'm nervous because i truly don't think that s3e6 is going to start where s3e5 left off. so we're going to walk into the episode with NO IDEA where Wilmon stand with each other, and that is, I think, the scariest part of this whole thing.

An addition to the wip pile inspired by GHOST’s “Entomologist” to continue the bug theme 🦋
Gave Frank a veil because I didn’t think giving him long hair would look the best in this application. Plus veils look cool and I’m going to give myself a headache on purpose trying to figure how to render it :)
Tidbit: A thing I like about puppet characters is that while they can look so lively and animated, if you draw them with a distant gaze and fixed smile they… what’s the word? They immediately look puppety, nothing there! They aren’t the character they represent anymore just literal fabric and stuffing in the shape of a person or animal! The potential in for the uncanny is great and exciting!

what if they got less doll-like and more human over time, like with the more spirals you completed and the more times you slayed them in wyrm form…… 🤔🧐

I haven’t seen others talking about it but shot out to Maya from Maya and the Three for being such a great character: from the very beginning she is shown to be rowdy and tomboyish, but instead of becoming a completely different person by the end of the series she works on her flaws (such as impulsivity and lying) without changing these aspects of herself. She took her mothers advice to be more diplomatic without putting down her macuahuitl. She loves her friends, family and Zatz equally, without one outweighing the other. Her love for them motivated her to finish off Mictlan. She is silly, she is heroic, she is strong, she is loving. She is the sun.

The mess on the couch Margaret bought - that can’t be cleaned - the mess created by bringing a child into the world - while death is looming nearby.
How the whole scene is a metaphor for Bucks life - how his entrance into the world was messy and death was looming - how his birth was an attempt to keep death at bay but it came anyway and has held the hand of the Buckleys ever since. How the Buckleys tried to clean up the mess but their secret created an uncomfortable life for Buck - one that couldn’t be kept hidden and once revealed exposed the mess. How the couch is unsalvageable in much the same way Bucks relationship with his parents is - the mess will always be there in the centre of things.
How the couch is orange and how orange is a colour of superficiality arrogance and pride.
How Kameron batted Natalia away initially but ended up holding her hand - holding the hand of death while bringing life into the world - the same way Margaret was when Buck was born.
How Buck holding that baby and needing a few seconds but ultimately being able to hand it over and let go is a representation of him breaking the cycle even if he is still connecting himself to death he has broken one link in the chain - the link to his birth.

wanting to feel wanted is another recurring theme I’ve noticed on this album. she wants her lover to want her back and prioritize her (imgonnagetyouback, the alchemy, the albatross, so high school). she wants her exes to wonder about her (the black dog, chloe or sam or sophia or marcus, peter). as soon as she feels wanted again, she makes drastic decisions, whether it be leaving her current relationship or rekindling it (guilty as sin vs imgonnagetyouback). she’s at her lowest when she feels discarded or resented. she’d rather be experimented on and broken over and over again than left stranded (down bad). he runs because he loves her. she’ll bolt before he gets the chance to.

so imagine coffinshipping but they’re just kind of sitting next to each other like a few feet away from each other doing their own thing until one of them (whoever you think fits) just suddenly swings his legs up and puts them in the other persons lap and they’re like “uhh tf okay” but they don’t question it or push the other person off. yeah. i’m okay btw.

speakinf of hero. some old doodles of her featuring the second half of my switched au (where the plots of s1&2 are essentially swapped) simply bc Hero drives me BONKERS in that one. POV ur little brother gets sucked into a cult bc of his mascot obsession but he wont listen to you because he genuinely thinks these people are his (first ever) friends. wdyd.
