was meant to be a short fic, turned into something like a poem, then turned into this.

You were a kid.

You’re disoriented and confused. Your crown is tilted, and its weight pulls down on your head.

The villagers are all around you, watching you.

Their gaze pressures you, and you stay frozen on the ground.

What is happening? What is going on? You’re confused, you’re scared, you’ve been scared for a while now.

But you see him rush towards you, arms open to welcome you.

Your brother hugs you.

“Oh, Moonlight! You’re so small now.”

You lean forward, deeper into his hug. The villagers don’t matter, nothing else matters right now.

You’re surrounded by his comfort.

You are a kid.

You are safe.

You are a kid.

They hurt your brother behind your back. And they probably have been for a while now.

They hold you back as your brother is writhing on the ground, covered in black goo.

The apple he ate has fallen next to him. You don’t know what the apples are truly capable of. You’re scared of losing him.

But the black goo melts away and he’s still here. Different, smaller, younger. But he’s still here with you.

You’re relieved. You’re scared. Just because he’s still here doesn’t mean he’s okay. There could still be something wrong. There could still be more danger to come.

You rush towards him. To hold, to shield, to protect.

His eyes are looking at you, waiting for you.

“Sunny…”

You hold him tighter, closer. His body is hidden from everybody’s view as best as you can manage. The villagers are still here, that’s still a concern.

You’re surrounded by potential threats.

You were a kid.

You have to keep him safe.

#deltarune #kris dreemurr #sky mantle #shadow mantle #had a ton of fun drawing the sky mantle in this #i'm proud i could pull off the holographic-ish look :) #i was think that with the mantles and the shadow/purified crystals it was a one-or-the-other situation #so you could either use the crystals to get the sky mantle or the twisted sword but not both #hence why kris is holding the twisted sword only in the latter photo #and of course! the shadow mantle i think would allow the wearer to completely obscure their image leaving only their silhouette #whereas the sky mantle just looks. really cool
