Why did William Stanley betray henry vii?

Sorry to be late. It's a good question, but my first answer got erased, and I ragequit for a time. First, I must point out that there still is controversy regarding whether Sir William Stanley did betray Henry VII. Evidence is slim, and we do not know the exact plan he had in mind, only 'treasonous' talk. I think he did attempt to support Perkin Warbeck and that there was a Household plot, or at least something resembling that, burgeoning at the Tudor court. Sir William Stanley attempted to revolt against Henry VII because I think he simply thought Perkin Warbeck was Richard of Shrewsbury. This is why he rebelled against Richard III. Recall Sir William was a servant of Edward V and consistently followed the House of York during its struggles against the Lancastrians.

When the House split in 1483, he remained loyal to Edward IV's progeny. Hence, his support to Henry VII which was support to his late master's daughter. Perkin Warbeck was another struggle for him because if he was Richard of Shrewsbury, then he was probably the rightful king in William's mind. William was sixty years old by then and a very dangerous foe to have, with the income of an earl and large cash reserves. His defection was a blow to Henry VII who managed to preemptively arrest him. Still, the 'betrayal' of William Stanley was a sign of enduring frailty for the Tudor regime.

Edward’s grip on the reins of power was unchallenged, and with two surviving sons, his dynasty appeared to be assured—Margaret’s son was no longer a threat. Thus it was that, on an unknown date, Edward—curiously, using the same piece of paper on which Margaret’s second husband had been created Earl of Richmond—drafted a pardon for her son. Margaret began to hope that she and Henry would soon be reunited.”

was thinking about henry and will being compared to one another. and. how will is almost always understood to not have a single violent bone in his body. vs "henry" in tfs being very much the same. he's shy, he's awkward, he stutters, he worries about upsetting other people and tells them to get away from him for their own safety because he can't control the thing inside him that wants to be violent. and st2 will infected with the shadow lashing out at everyone, even going as far as choking out joyce when the shadow is threatened

the number of times henry apologized for the things the shadow made him do/made wrong with him vs will apologizing after the shadow made him trick the soldiers in the tunnels

thinking about the flashback video we get of 7 year old henry who's all smiles and having fun with his friends at his birthday party. him doing the captain midnight poses with so much enthusiasm and being so excited about his spyglass. henry all happy with his birthday gifts vs will at the end of st1 talking about how "it's definitely an atari" and being so excited for it

will with d'art in the bathroom telling him "it's okay, i'm not gonna hurt you" vs henry with prancer all "it's okay, don't be scared" and them trying to settle the animals down

will getting startled by d'art when he lashed out in fear. prancer leaping off his shelf in the liquor store and startling henry. the shadow then responding to the fear w d'art and flaying will. the shadow responding to the fear w prancer and channeling thru henry to kill him

will who grabbed his dad's gun out of self defense in st1 to protect himself vs henry letting the shadow kill virginia because virginia sold out patty and was going to have him locked up. henry having virginia killed because he was protecting himself and someone he loves

and this isn't even having seen henry fully un-flayed. we get the silent videos of him at his 7th bday party, but that's not much to go by other than extrapolating that he was a very normal child with a normal childhood. he tries his best to be a good kid while this monster is eating away at his insides and will is so much like him

Revisiting an old reading

It’s been a long time that I really posted something here and I have to tell you I terribly miss the conversations we had, however I needed (still do) this time to focus on my private life and my future goals.

That’s been said I got an ask lately and I want to respond to it.

To you, who sent me this: There is a part of your ask that I left out purposely, because believe me, you touched a subject that always drives bananas the fandom and I don’t think atm it’s worth to cause stirr and deal with the consequences.

In my answer I want to focus on the career, business aspect of his life because I haven’t done any personal readings on him and because… because I predicted this turn of events.
