Shawn's evaluations of who to call for help at any given time are so interesting because there are distinctions and I think they're consistent:
Calls Henry when he needs to know what to do
Calls Lassie when there's clear and present physical danger
Calls Jules when he needs to believed
Calls Gus whenever Gus is not already there

phillipe gaston is a character type I normally hate, like I don't think we need a comic relief everyman to get us invested in a story or a world, ordinarily I would be irritated by his presence and the fact that navarre and isabeau aren't our pov characters. But matthew broderick is giving the performance absolutely nothing, he's putting no effort into his line delivery to the point that he completely drops the accent entirely sometimes, and phillipe doesn't come off as a charming everyman, he's just this pathetic little guy from Chicago and I'm fascinated by him

'Manon' – Lust in a time of war on MUBI and Arrow
The heat of war collides with the heat of desire in Henri-Georges Clouzot’s Manon (France, 1949).
French Resistance fighter Robert (Michel Auclair) abandons his post and his duty with sexy wild child Manon (Cécile Aubry), gets tangled up in the Paris black market to give Manon the high life she desires, and flees a murder rap in a boat filled with Jewish refugees headed for Palestine. Clouzot…
