We all know our dinosaurs, right? There are the two-legged horrible carnivorous monsters and then everything else that chows down on plants. That’s how the world works, right? There are herbivores, carnivores, and omnivores. Life has been governed by the same rules that it is governed by now, and by that, I mean there are no rules. The concept of herbivores and carnivores is to help out with organization but doesn’t really reflect the reality of the situation. Both herbivores and carnivores fall on a spectrum of greater or lesser herbivory or carnivory.

Dryosaurus, a small ornithopod dinosaur, was named using the Greek words 'drys' meaning tree or oak, and sauros, meaning lizard. This makes the dinosaurs name mean 'tree lizard'. Although some believe that this name is because of the vague oak-leaf shape of its cheek teeth, the name is actually in reference to its forested habitat and a presumed arboreal lifestyle. However, there is no evidence to the former, and the dinosaur has since been proben to be ground-dwelling.

130 cm without crest
Habitat:
South Asia

The Falihn is a creature one could call enchanting upon seeing it. A little smaller than a donkey without the crest, its coats vary between blue and pink with rare cases of green. The fawns are born darker than adults. They display a bioluminescent stripe on their neck as well as antennaes, longer for males. They are met in deep forests, near water sources. They are amphibians and their diet is composed of algae and other water plants, completed by mushrooms, mosses and lichens. They are very wild.

While herbivorous insects and pathogenic microorganisms represent the greatest threat to plants, other organisms, including nematodes and parasitic plants, can also cause significant damage.

Dinofact #41
Hypsilophodon was a small herbivorous, possibly omnivorous, dinosaur from the early Cretaceous period. Despite living in one of the latest periods of non-avian dinosaur life, Hypsilophodon displayed many features that are considered primitive. For example, Hypsilophodon had five-fingered hands and four-toed feet, whereas most other advanced ornithopods had three-toed feet, with only early specimens displaying four. It has been proposed that Hypsilophodon's fifth finger allowed it to grasp food easier. Additionally, Hypsilophodon had five pointed teeth in front of the upper jaw, where most other herbivores by the early Cretaceous had evolved and specialised to the point where these teeth were absent. It may be that these teeth served a special function in Hypsilophodon, which may be why some scientists believe Hypsilophodon was omnivorous.
