He sacrificed so much for the demigods' sake and now Octavian wants to raise Gaea to doom all of them? He was the one who allied himself with the monsters only to receive the bitter ending, and now Octavian intends to repeat the same mistake?

Also obviously the hype of getting a friend-turned-foe turn ally again. How would Percy and Annabeth react? Her new ID just made me certain she is an intentional red herring in the LCB squad. For whom, is unclear.

Her attitude around Dante especially is not one replicated in any of her other selves to my knowledge, so whatever point the IDs usually split off from probably didn't happen to any other versions of Outis. It doesn't seem as if she's trying to act as her subordinates did to her, and she obviously isn't imitating the other sinners' attitudes.

Given there was a warning in her intro page, it seems that whomever wrote that may have been well aware of her ability to manipulate others for her own gain, given the warning of her intelect being used for anything other than missions.

As many of you may have notices, Hestia was one of "The Three Virgin Goddesses of Ancient Greece"; with Artemis and Athena, but... What most people hasn't notices, is than these three goddesses; are the only "Three Principal Virgin Goddesses in the World!" And, I suspect than Hestia was totally asexual which explains why we doesn't have any myth of Hestia expressing interest in someone. And I think than Hestia, makes that vow... Not only to avoid a intern war between Olympians, but too to have the autonomy and independence the other goddesses than were married and have children, never had. That's why Hestia did, was so revolutionary: She showed to all the women in Antiquity, than if you doesn't wanted to married; and avoid being the subject of the hardships of marriage, you have a choice: Staying forever at home, swearing you will never takes a man as a husband; fiancee, boyfriend or lover, renouncing forever to romance, but winning something more... Personal Tranquility, and Freedom!

In conclusion... Hestia, was one of the more important goddesses for The Ancient Greeks; because she kepts everyone happy in their Home, attending to Hearth and Kitchen; and making than each Family, Home; Community and City, feel protected and peaceful; thanks than she have all the time to do that, only by remained eternally pure and single.

This is all about The Goddess of all The Sacred Fires, of The Domestic Life; Bringer of Blessings for The Family and Society, than sits quietly in an corner of the House; as in Olympus, being a pacifist with an strong personality and will; like an domesticated fire: Hestia!

Ah, no 😅 With Hermès it's a bit different because they don't play the game of hiring celebrities as ambassadors and the exclusivity they manage with their products is transferred to the exclusivity of attending their shows, the fact that they have invited Hobi speaks of the power the influence and even the respect that those brands feel towards him. BMT! 🧵 here, loving the conversations right now, especially the input from needle (I don't seem to have this emoji on desktop). I thought I would answer/maybe clarify your two anon questions and then send another post in a bit wrt what needle and you were discussing about brands, longevity, conservatism in fashion, because I have a LOT of thoughts on the subject.

Re: What does a brand ambassador actually do? Answer: not all that much. You hit the nail on the head that we'll see him in Dior for most, but not all, of his public engagements, especially red carpets and more formal events. (As an aside, being brand ambassadors means that some members might actually go to the met gala this year, but their styling is going to be so boring. So close to getting what I want and yet so far.) As far as casual wear goes, there are likely contract stipulations but in reality what that means is that Dior has likely given him dozens of pieces, an entire wardrobe's worth, and they will expect him to work them in as a significant proportion of his casual wear. I also expect at least one ad campaign. He will have absolutely no creative input, which is unfortunate but that's not what this means anymore. You mentioned Hepburn and Givenchy and Denevue and YSL. The days of that kind of close-tie artist and muse are over. They MAY design some custom pieces for him to wear to carpets, which will definitely include his/his team's input (and this will come down to how much he personally cares and how much he trusts his team to dress him well). He absolutely has say over what he /specifically/ wears, within reason, but Jimin isn't going to be exchanging emails about plans for the S/S '24 collection, if that makes sense?

For a more practical example, just look at how LV worked with and dressed BTS as a whole throughout 2021/2022. That's how this is going to play out. @/stylish_bts and @/bangtanstyling are good accounts to follow on twitter if anyone wants to get a sense for what the members are wearing and when. These brand contracts are not exclusivity deals.

Re: Hobi at 3 shows and Jimin exclusively at Dior.

Absolutely not. Jimin is in Paris as a guest of Dior, which means that Dior isn't going to be pleased to see him hanging out at the Margiela show (which is unfortunate, I thought it was fun). Wild to me that people don't understand that.

I'd like to dig a little deeper into Hoseok's appearances though, because there's some nuance going on here that I think most people missed. I do think Hoseok has signed his own brand deal, but it hasn't started yet. I'm praying it's not LV, but I think it might be. I also think it's a shorter/more casual contract like Yoongi's is with Valentino for the simple reason that I fully expect the entire hyung line to be enlisted before the year is out.

Hoseok at Dior was VERY surprising to me. I mentioned in an earlier post that I think it was relatively last minute (not so last minute like he got to Paris and was invited after, but I think Jimin's name has been on the books for at least half a year). I also think his presence there was because of a direct request from Jimin/Jimin's management on his behalf. And I'm sure Dior jumped at the chance. One Bangtan member is a multimillion dollar contract, but getting a second one almost for free? And all the engagement that will come with? Easy decision. I think people miss how nervous Jimin can get (see: UN talk) so I'm glad he had that support with him. It was also made very clear throughout that the brand deal was Jimin's and that Hoseok was just putting in an appearance.

The third show that Hoseok went to was Hermes (forgive me fashion gods I do not have the patience to copy-paste accents on my english keyboard). And this spoke sooo many volumes that definitely went over most people's heads. Hermes doesn't do brand ambassadors. It doesn't do celeb endorsements. It doesn't do anything to make its brand approachable or easy to buy from. That's their entire business model. Their status is so far up in the clouds that it's almost unreachable by human hands. They make Chanel look normal. Hoseok being invited was a big deal. And it makes me laugh at solos who are trying to leverage one brand against another against engagement against whatever. The BTS members, all of them, are an advertiser's wet dream. Their engagement numbers are off the charts. But back to Hermes, his appearance was just that, an appearance. Everyone who knows, knows that they're not going to actually sign him. Because that's not what they do.

So we got Hoseok at LV (invited, advertised), Dior (clearly marked as not The Brand Ambassador Just Some Guy Hanging Out), and at Hermes (Who Will Not Sign Him Ever). Makes that fashion week look a little more different from an invitation standpoint, no?

I did a quick twitter search to see what posts are going around about Hobi at Hermes (I didn't keep up with it) and I don't understand these fans. It only takes a few minutes to do a google search. Not everyone has to know the ins and outs of every fashion house, but damn, it is embarrasing. Talking about being brand ambassador or shareholder? What are they smoking? This reminded me when I took a course at some point on antrepreneurship and business and I made a presentation on Hermes. Yeah, it's in its own category. I don't really agree with their methods to maintain their status and exclusivity, but it works nonetheless.

I agree with you, the hyung line which is going to enlist this year will get a short-term deal most likely, just as we see with Yoongi. I too wish Hobi wouldn't get paired with LV, but they also make it sort of obvious that they're going in that direction. I know they made the announcement for Jackson Wang in the meantime. As to the maknae line, I guess Tae and Jungkook might have a similar deal as Jimin. And it's already closed. W Korea wrote that they started the work for the issue with Jimin back in July, so the Dior deal most likely is in that timeframe as well. And being announced now not only coordinates with FW, but also with Jimin releasing his album and the start of a promotional schedule. It's the entire package. I'm curious what will end up being the favorable time for the other two.

Observing A Royal by Pamala Proverbs (March 3rd 2014)

I am an old fashioned Barbadian. What does that mean? Well it means I am really proud and believe in respect and dignity. It also means that I am not star-struck by anyone, not even royalty. In my job at PRMR Inc. and otherwise, I have met stars, authors, international politicians, heads of multinational corporations etc. and do not have a picture to show for it.

Mr. Steve Stoute, President of the Barbados Olympic Association presented Sophie, Countess of Wessex with a scarf and tie

One thing that I love to do as a communications/ public relations professional however, is to observe people in these positions in their unguarded moments, away from the glare of the spotlight. How they engage with other people is an indicator of their true character.

Most recently, I had the occasion to observe Sophie, Countess of Wessex up close. We were not introduced formally. My fault, I always take a back seat when I am working, but we stood as close as four feet apart for a good 20 minutes.

Here is what I observed. The Countess loves people. She is genuinely interested in your story; she is not just filling in for her husband, Prince Edward. Her genuine interest in others goes beyond royal responsibility. The night before she visited the Barbados Olympic Association Inc. (BOA) she met with some young people. I believe they were the parish ambassadors as I overheard her relaying the story that one of them told her about sports not being mandatory and that needing to change in order for sports in Barbados to be taken seriously. Now this was someone that did not just make idle conversation, but spoke to a young person with so much interest that she was able to internalise and repeat the conversation.

The Countess is quite sociable. After meeting with the staff at the BOA, she was invited to refreshments. I was shocked when she agreed to have a cup of coffee. With no special treatment and no airs about her she took her cup and continued to mingle. The Countess was so comfortable in the room among ordinary people that this allowed her previously very uptight security officer who introduced himself as Pat, to relax. Actually I got a smile from Pat. Being a James Bond addict (not the current Bond) I asked Pat if he was licensed to kill. He smiled and said he was and apologised for his early demeanour (he had not expected so many media representatives and he was concerned that their close proximity was posing a threat to the Countess).

The Countess is regular people. What does that mean? Well the BOA presented her with a scarf. She took it out of the bag and slung it over her shoulders so proudly that you would have thought it was Hermes. She also demonstrated her love for her husband when she took his tie and said he would definitely wear it, a true mark of a woman who has a firm grasp on her household.

As someone who loves fashion myself, I picked her outfit to pieces. Nothing was overstated. Her choice of slacks, blouse, shoes, handbag and jewellery were all smart, elegantly casual and fit for the occasion, obviously someone comfortable in her own skin.

However, what moved me to write this blog about the Countess was her parting act. As she was walking out of the reception area she looked in the servers’ direction, looked one of the servers straight in the eye and said, thank you. This won me over completely. The Countess is gracious, and she sees the invisible people, the men and women who serve and are so important but are always overlooked; for me that was Royal.

Roman gods are not Greek gods: Mercury

MERCURY

Unlike the gods we saw previously, such as Mars or Vulcan, Mercury actually isn’t as ancient as the rest of the other “Roman Olympians”. He is one of the “recent” deities, appearing only around the fifth century BC, and so heavily shaped by the Greek Hermes with not much pre-existing influence.

Well… “heavily shaped” would be a bit of an exaggeration, because the fascinating thing with Mercury is that he basically reflected and embodied only ONE aspect of the Greek Hermes. If you know your Greek myths, you’ll know that Hermes, like Apollo, is one of those gods that cumulates the jobs. Messenger and psychopomp, god of merchants and thieves, god of eloquence, gymnastic, science, I can pile it all up to no end. But Mercury? You pick “god of merchants” from the list above, and you have it.

Mercury is the god of trading, the god of commerce, the patron of merchants, the one people prayed to for monetary gain. His very name is linked to either “merx” (merchandise) or “mercari” (to trade), and this shows why Mercury is more “recent” than the other deities – in the primitive Roman society, heavily leaning on agriculture and then warfare, a god of coins and merchants wasn’t really interesting or wouldn’t be prominent – it was only as Rome built itself as a wealthy and influential nation that Mercury started to rise. Mercury’s heavy financial nature was such that, when Plautus wrote his “Amphitryon”, based on the Greek legend of the character of the same name, he had to actually specify and make explicit to the audience that Mercury was the god of both “nuntiis” and “lucro”, of both messages and monetary gain – clearly showing that Mercury’s position as a “messenger of the gods” wasn’t actually well-known or widespread.

Mercury did inherit another main aspect of Hermes – the god of travels. But it was also tied to this aspect as a god of commerce: Hermes wasn’t just the gods of all travelers. In the Roman Empire, travel meant you had business, and if it wasn’t military or political business it was commercial business. It was because merchants travelled so much that Mercury became the god of travels, and it is to protect the roads and the things carried on it that his statues were erected by the side of the various paths of the empire. Technically speaking, Mercury also inherited all of the other attributes of Hermes through the Hellenization: he was considered a god of inventions and thieves, a psychopomp deity and the spirit of the athletics… And the Romans even added a bit more features to the original set: for example, while Hermes simply had the power to put men to sleep, Ovid made him the specific messenger of Morpheus bringing his dreams to the human sleep, and while the Greeks recognized Hermes as a god of eloquence, the Romans insisted that Mercury invented the arts of writing and speaking, becoming the father of the language… But all of that, to be fair, was essentially a literary thing. In effect, in a much more “every day” culture and religion, Mercury was essentially the god of commerce and roads, of merchants and travels, of trade and riches – you’d have a hard time imagining the Romans actually worshiping a god of thievery. This is why his temples were usually located near or into the hearts of commerce inside a city, and why the people in charge of Mercury’s temple also had tasks such as overseeing markets. The festival of Mercury, the Mercuralia, was all about celebrating merchants and commerce.

We could possibly add that Mercury was also seen as a god of mediation and negotiation, extending Hermes’ role as a “peace-maker”. But again, you can actually see here the full pragmatism of the Romans, who kept the “eloquence” part of the divinity, but unlike for the Greeks in which eloquence was a cunning art for messengers, ambassadors and thieves, for the Romans “eloquence” was a practical tool of commerce and used in a very pragmatic way into negotiating business and mediating conflicts. Romans truly had a… well “down-to-earth” look at their gods, opposing the more… between “poetic” and “twisted” take of the Greeks on their own deities. Greeks loved their paradoxes. Romans too had paradoxes in their religion, but they mostly existed because of the Romans hyper-pragmatism (which in turn is another whole paradox…).

One should note that Mercury was MASSIVELY popular in Rome, from the traces we found of him, and this massive popularity notably shows in the European colonized regions of the Roman Empire. If you didn’t know, the Romans had an imperialistic religious plan based entirely on syncretism – to better incorporated conquered nations in their empires, they equated and fused their own gods with the local gods, eventually replacing the native religion with the Roman one in a “let’s time help the confusion” thing. This is notably why we have so little remaining traces of the gods of Gaul – Gaul (today’s France) was so heavily colonized and “absorbed” by the Romans that now all we have left is the Gallo-Roman pantheon, mixing the original Celtic deities with the Roman ones.

And the thing is that, when it came to syncretism, Mercury was the default god to go apparently. He kept getting syncretized everywhere, from Germany to Iberia (future Spain), and he had tons of alternate-selves everywhere. Being a god of prosperity and abundance, whose cult spread through commerce and road-building, it makes sense that he would become a widespread god in the whole empire. But the most notably alternate self of Mercury, its biggest syncretism yet is without a doubt the ”Gallic Mercury”, the deity that was the most worshiped and adored by the Gallo-Romans. This deity deserves a whole post in itself, but basically it was Mercury’s syncretism with the Gallic version of the continental Celtic deity known as Lugus (the equivalent of the Irish Celtic deity Lug), both being the “providers of good things”, and the Mercury of Gaul just boomed as the three-folded deity of commerce, travels and all the arts (inventor of all the arts) – and he even seems to have absorbed other Gallic gods with time, resulting in a fascinating triple-god figure… But that’s a story for another time.

Other interesting things about Mercury is that among his sacred animals a distinctively Roman addition is the rooster, Mercury’s animal since he is the “herald of the new day”. An interesting cultural shift, since in Ancient Greece the rooster was rather one of Ares’ sacred bird. Oh yes, and another reason the Romans adored Mercury and he became such a popular god is because he was thought to be the father of the Lares, one of the several types of domestic gods the Romans kept in their homes.
