Gnomecore (+hermitpunk under the cut)
In the aesthetic's world, goblincore is a VERY popular, yet also widely controversial aesthetic only in name. People have tried to use crowcore or dragoncore instead to denote similar aesthetics but in a less problematic way.
I love both of those aesthetics as well, but to say that the actual imagery of them are parallel to goblincore doesn't really make sense to me. In my eyes, crowcore and dragoncore, while sharing similarities with goblincore, are just as different as cabincore is to cottagecore. So I'm proposing gnomecore to replace the goblincore name. Same exact aesthetic, just different name. Gnomes are typically more benevolent in folklore than goblins anyway, so think about it.
Gnomes are small, nature dwelling creatures associated with the element of earth. In my head, I think they also like to collect little trinkets they happen across, but instead of just being greedy about their trinkets like goblins, gnomes believe that every little object they collect is an offering to them specifically (from humans, from animals, from the other elementals and spirits, etc.) so they treasure and value everything they collect very much. Imagine a little gnome happening upon a small button while wandering around in a garden and he goes "oh my! the humans have left this lovely button just for me!" and holding it close to his chest with a smile. Every trinket a gnome has is a gift and they protect and guard them with their life.
Gnomes are also known to care for the plants and animals of their region in some tradition, I'm sure they care for the "ugly" and "undesirables" too! Gnomes don't judge things the way humans do. They are from the Earth and thus they see everything else that comes from the Earth as beautiful and worthy of love.
In general, I think gnomes are a WAY better and more accurate "mascot" for the aesthetic and it's values. So I'm hoping gnomecore can eventually replace the term goblincore because gosh damn would gnomes be cuter anyway! I would love to be a little gnome!
Hermitpunk is also a new aesthetic I've come across. It's already an established aesthetic but it seems to not have the same acknowledgement as other aesthetics. I thought I'd bring more attention to it because it's such a good one that deserves to take off. There's literally only two whole references online of this aesthetic outside of Tumblr (I haven't even checked the hermitpunk # here) so I'm really hoping it'll gain more popularity.
