BnHA/MHA Writing Prompt
Inspired by “Hero Class Civil Warfare” by RogueDruid.
So it’s a “Hero vs Villain Exam”, with Izuku being the leader of the Villains. The ‘villain persona’ he decides to put on is that of All For One, a villain that remains anonymous and makes deals with others to gain their loyalty. As he cannot ‘give or take quirks’, he instead provides information with improving their quirk usage or their quirk in general. Izuku finds loopholes that allow him to get away with more things, such as how to maximize the amount of objectives they get to complete, resulting in them getting more points. So long as the identity of the ‘villain leader’ remains unknown, all objectives are available. If the villain leader is discovered before the vigilante objectives are completed, whatever vigilante objectives will remain closed to them.
The villain team decides to attack through two different categories: true villainy and through vigilantism. Izuku assigns leaders to both teams who follow his orders whilst he blends in with one of the teams to further hide his identity.
Also, the story is told through the perspective of the League of Villains (who have hacked in to observe). Upon Izuku’s reveal as the villain leader upon the completion of all vigilante objectives and him going all in on the ‘All For One’ persona, Shigaraki realizes that perhaps he picked the wrong UA student to try to corrupt to the villain side.
Side note: for extra fun, this could also be a Dad For One.

Chapter 12: Grudging Sacrifice:
“The two leaders lashed out. [...]
You know, I find the irony here almost cathartic.” The soft voice of Deku came to him. “Not because you're the hero and I the villain, but because this exercise has proven something I’ve always believed.” Katsuki twisted and struggled as he set off as large an explosion as he could. He rolled to the side and up into a crouch, arms coming up on reflex up to block a flickering green knee that shoved him up to his feet.
“What do you FUCKING KNO–” A snapped right hook slammed into Katsuki's cheek, sending him staggering across the hall before he came back. His fists swung in heavy haymakers as he tried to shut Deku UP!
“I know that you are obsessed with being ‘Number One.’ I know you think that heroism is a competition, that being the best means something.” Katsuki screamed and lashed out, making Deku stagger back, a bruise forming on one bloodied cheek. He spun around with the hit and came back to a slam of a glowing foot into a hastily raised guard. It sent Katsuki staggering back once more.
“Being Number One? It never mattered in the same way to me. I appreciate the title, the meaning behind the words.” Katsuki raised his remaining arm cannon, trying to aim through the blood stinging his eyes, but Midoriya was already in close. He kicked the cannon out to the side as he choke-slammed the blond into the wall." [...]

Here’s an MHA fic rec for you!!
Hero Class Civil Warfare by RogueDruig(Icarius51) on AO3, 85,769 words and 33 chapters, completed.
Basically, the hero classes(1-A and 1-B) have an annual civil war based ‘game’ for their midterms where some of the hero students become villains and the others are heroes. And this year, Izuku is the villain mastermind, Kingpin, and Katsuki is the hero leader, Paragon. And Izuku is about to show everyone why they should be glad he isn’t an actual villain
Immaculate fic. Fucking amazing, 9/10, point barred only because I really wanted to see Izuku go too far off the rails. Would absolutely read it again

have you ever considered writing your own spin on 'hero class civil warfare? 🤩
Nah, but that is a banger of a fic. I have a lot of respect for people that tackle their own spin on it though—I would find it nerve-wracking to try and mess with the classics.

I have decided to make a MHA, Izuku Midoriya centric, fanfiction 101 recommendations, list.
I am but a basic bitch of nerds, but I have opinions and I WILL share them bc I'm incapable of shutting the fuck up.
Anyway this is a list of fic I think any person who reads fanfiction, is a BNHA fan and likes Izuku Midoriya, should read.
(is it actually an excuse to find ppl who like the same shit i do? Maybe.)
So, this list will contain fics that are completed ONLY.
There are a lot of MHA staples that aren't finished yet, and they will get a post of their own.
🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩
Alright disclaimers, PSA, whatever, ALWAYS and I fuckin mean ALWAYS, read the tags and trigger warnings bc I won't lie, some might get a bit dark.
🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩🚩
1. Complicated Creation - Elemental
Easily one of the best fics I've ever read. Great world building based on the Ghibli movie Spirited away. We love to see it. The writing and plot are both breath-taking.
It has quirkless Izuku, spirits, dragons, healing and a sprinkle of a classic trope in the MHA fandom, Dadzawa.
2. Hero Class Civil Warfare - RogueDruid
If you have been in the fandom space for at least a couple of months and have been reading fics, you have, 100% heard of RogueDruid. He has, hands down, some of the most captivating work in the whole of the internet. One of the classics, is HCCW. It has inspired a lot of other fics, which had gone the class War route (hmu if u want reccs). Incredibly well done, the EFFORT that went into this had to be astounding. There isn't a single miss.
Without spoiling too much, the class 1 A and 1 B, have a final exam. The exam in this world, is a war between villain and heros. Izuku is put into the position of the leader of the villains, the Kingpin while his rival, the Paragon, is none other than Katsuki Bakugou. We get a mastermind Izuku, characters from 1 B, that I personally never cared much for, before reading this fic and more.
3. Mastermind: Strategist for Hire by Clouds
Staying in the villain Izuku waters, I present Mastermind. A part of a series called For the want of a nail, that follows different universes in which Izuku stays quirkless. Mastermind is a personal favourite. It's the second installment of the series and has an ongoing sequel. (The series includes Viridian: the green guide, Deku? I think he's some pro, Chet Code: support strategist and two more, which aren't completed yet).
Here, Izuku stays quirkless as he loses any hope left for the hero society. He, unfortunately for the world, is stupidly smart and easily gained a fearsome reputation, for being the best strategist for hire for villains. After realizing the world sucks and he, in fact, doesn't, Izuku becomes a villain the likes héroes have never seen before.
4. The Mystery of Student No.18 by cloud_nine_and_three_quarters
Another author, that has me by the scruff of my goddamm neck. Went for my throat every fuckin time. I will name the other fics later but lemme tell you about this one.
It's the second fic in the list, that has Izuku with OFA. This time though, Izuku stayed true to his self-sacrificing roots and got himself into a coma. While in his lovely sleeping beauty-esk state, OFA keeps giving him energy and thus an once of a lifetime opportunity to become a ghost. Yes you heard that right. He becomes a ghost and lightly haunts his class. The fic is golden, funny and just a little bit sad.
The other three fics, just as good as this one are Canary, Why are we here again? and Displacement.
5. Yesterday upon the stair by PitvViperOfDoom
Keeping with the ghost theme, we have the one and only YUTS. Again, world building is of the charts great. A great quirk and awesome themes with unexpected turns and plots. The gist is, Izuku can see ghosts. This story is one of the rare ones where Nana Shimura (my beloved) plays a bigger role than usual. Definitely chdck out the additional parts of the series though at that point it goes slightly into more crack waters but it's still incredible.
6. [Content] by Teobot
Taking a sharp turn into morally grey vigilante route, we get this great first part of an incredible ongoing series. There are two parts done and the wait is always worth it.
7. Assignment: Personality Swap by BelleAmant
First I wanted to recc their vigilante Izuku fic (Vigil, Ante and their vigilante antics) but I must admit, while a classic, it hasn't been as impactful to the fandom as Personality Swap has been. Both with its incredible humor, bit of angst and quirk fuckery the whole series has been nothing but hits.
8. Another form of power by Jade_Tatsu
Veering directly back into villain Izuku, this one was a breath of fresh air. I once got tired of villain Izuku that was either forced to be a villain or was just a vigilante but darker, so I went on a search and found this. The series All for power, is a 4 part ENTIRELY COMPLETED series, about politician villain Izuku. The first part is told mostly through the eyes of Kurogiri and I swear, it's my favorite of the all.
9. How Seven (7) Dead Heroes Stopped Being Bored by ScottishSunshine
Crack inspired, but more All for one focused that Izuku, but still most things happen because of the Midoriya family so it counts. It's good and fun and an interesting read especially of you're fond of Dad for one.
10. Prodigal by writerllofllworlds
And for the end, let's get our hearts crushed just a little.
An angst filled suspected traitor AU. In my humble opinion, very few have ever truly succeeded in writing a traitor AU, nearly as good as this one. I like it in most part because Izuku goes through hell and back, and I just am like that. It's epic.
Was this list an exuse to talk about fics I like? Yes. But do i feel like everyone who like BNHA should read these?
Abso - fuckin-lutley
I consider it a crime if you don't. Also pls do add your own opinions and if you want more reccs, ask in the comments or dm me or whatever floats your boat Besties.
Kiki the nerd, signing off

Hello gentry!! hope youre doing well!!
I have once again dropped into your inbox (with another bribe >:3) with a fic search request for you and your fic finding critters
im looking for any fics where people get terrified of izuku (whether it be because of his intelligence or some plan that he makes up of just general mannerisms they see) eg. fic with a UA setting where they're giving some test or sth in teams and izuku cooks up a plan to lead his team to victory while making people (unintentionally) realise that if he were a villain society would be fucked (ie similar to hero class civil warfare but icarius51)
or fic where izuku and his analysis just blows people's mind (ie. similar to cheat code or Mastermind: both by myheadinthecoudsnotcomingdown)
or any fic where hes a villain/vigilante/morally grey civilian/informant and due to him having a lot of info he just has a scary amount of blackmail on people
ive kind of gone through the whole 'scary midoriya izuku' tag in search of good fics and my greed knows no bounds so I'm asking for more :D
( here's some of the ones i have read in case anyone else is also interested in this btw )
and now of course the bribes, cheese for the rats (🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀🧀) and anyone!shouto looking at the mess that is endeavour during the sports fest
Tumblr media
thank you! <3
I accept your bribe with joy!
Fic finders, ASSEMBLE!

I think the thing that makes me insane about battletech as a setting is that it's such a quintessential military science fiction universe in that there's basically no substance or interrogation or themes or anything
A lot of mech stories specifically use mechs as an allegory for something else, or a way to externalize the pain and torture of prolonged warfare without requiring the protagonists to be constantly injured or healing, or to show grievous damage to a body but not YOUR body, but it's still kind of your body, you know?
And as someone who has read probably literally close to a hundred of the battletech novels, that's just... not there. Almost all of the stories are boilerplate, relatively mediocre war stories that tell of heroes doing cool things and winning against regular odds, and the ones that deviate from the norm are the sort of thing that I'd find completely unremarkable in any other setting. Like, the closest I can come up with to a story that isn't just 'there's a guy, he's in a mech, he falls in love with a girl, he fights and he ends up winning and it's cool' is Ideal War, which STILL FOLLOWS THAT FORMULA but at least works within the confines of the universe to say things like 'war is horrible and piloting a mech doesn't protect you from having to see the violence you're capable of inflicting' (but yeah it really is still that exact formula just by a slightly more self aware author)
and the problem really is the same that a lot of science fiction falls into, where the summary is really really cool and you're like holy shit I would love to know more, like if I were to tell you 'this setting is about a technologically advanced galaxy where humans have been able to create 10 meter tall mechs that last hundreds of years and are the primary method of waging war, but because of the vastness of space and the limits of physics, society has reverted to feudalism and aristocracy because coordinating governments across solar systems is a nightmare and the larger a given nation, the more difficult it is to manage, PLUS as battlemechs are owned and passed down within families, it additionally stratifies society as a new noble class is established, oh and partially through the bloody wars between these feudal nations, a eugenicist death cult of technologically advanced humans sweeps in and completely curbstomps everyone in their way until the secretive communications network that kind of worships computers reveals that it's been hiding an army of its own that is close to on par with the death cultists, and challenges them to a winner-take-all battle for the galaxy'
and then I have to be like 'oh and it's really badly written, everything that sounds cool about this is thrown to the side because the guys who wrote this were all middle-aged white dudes who were weirdly enthusiastic about the US civil war and especially the South'
Like, I can't help but think about things like gundam, which has its faults but has clear politics and themes and narratives that carry through clearly and reliably, or EVA which definitely fumbles a lot of what it's going for but is laden with such evocative imagery and symbolism that even though it's kinda mid it still captured our hearts and minds for decades, or like every single mech story in existence that asks whether we consider them people, or how it changes our ability to relate to others to be encased in a shell of armor and death, or whether we're giving up part of our humanity to become part of a steel beast
and battletech is just no thoughts head empty 'it's so cool to be a soldier : ) isn't it great to be a special hero :DDD'
and that's on the good days, on the bad days it's 'well the clans are so cool and advanced and they're so good at fighting and they've got a code of honor that makes them vulnerable but really it's the ones that attempt to find loopholes or undercut that honor that are the bad ones, if only we could get the clans to stop fighting us and see that we should have peace, between us and the people who idolize genetic purity above literally everything else :)'
