It's the way Herongraystairs' story isn't even a real tragedy by definition - given that Will lived a full life and died at an old age surrounded by his family, and Tessa got to be with both the men she loved at the right time - yet we all collectively do see it as a tragic love story because of how potent and eternal their love is?
Like it feels as if the only worthy outcome for a trio like theirs is for them to live in joy eternally right by each other's side at all moments, so when the happiest mortal outcome happened, it just struck us as "wow, this is so unfair and sad" because their love is just so big

@tscnetwork third mission: favorite series                ↳ THE INFERNAL DEVICES
“They say you cannot love two people equally at once,” she said. “And perhaps for others that is so. But you and Will—you are not like two ordinary people, two people who might have been jealous of each other, or who would have imagined my love for one of them diminished by my love of the other. You merged your souls when you were both children. I could not have loved Will so much if I had not loved you as well. And I could not love you as I do if I had not loved Will as I did.”

London, 2009, so a year after the events of City of Heavenly Fire. There are some clues in here for Dark Artifices and even for Shadowhunter Academy, so if you hate spoilers, avoid!
A lot of people have asked if Will is "really there" or is a ghost. I never thought of Will ever haunting the world after his death. He had a good life and a good death and has no reason to hang around. There's an implication in the comic that this is Will's "one trip" from the afterlife, but an equal implication, I think, that he's not there at all, and is just a figment of the imaginations of those who so badly want to see him.
You can decide what you want to believe. :)
* Art by Cassandra Jean of course!

Jem Carstairs didn't get seperated from his Parabatai and made into a Silent Brother just so he could live just so Shadowhunters could change Yin Fen into a vampire venom I stead of a demonic drug

↳ tessa gray x will herondale x jem carstairs
how they loved each other, these three, how they had suffered for each another, and yet how much joy they clearly took from simply being in the same room.
