"Maybe in another life," the hero replied softly. "but I will continue to choose you no matter what."

Prompt #66
"Woah" the new hero gasped out as she stopped squirming in the heavy restraints, her eyes widening as she watched the villain step out from the darkness.
The villain raised a sole eyebrow as he stalked closer to her, hair falling over his eyebrows as he did so.
"Wow" the hero repeated a second time, her lips falling open as her eyes traveled down the villain's body.
"Hm?" the villain hummed, his eyes casting down his body as if looking for what the hero's eyes seemed to catch that he couldn't.
"You're hot" the hero blurted out, mouth snapping shut once the words came out of her mouth.
The villain's eyebrows pinched together in confusion as a small smirk slipped onto his coral lips.
"I-I mean, you're not hot. " The hero snapped out, feelings her cheeks fire up from embarrassment. "No, y-you're hot but i-it's weird because I shouldn't find you hot since you're a villain and you're the evil bad guy but you just look so fucking good right now and I think that you look amazingly sexy when you smirk but I shouldn't and now I'm ranting and having word diarrhea come out of my mouth because I'm so nervous because I find a villain hot even though I shouldn't a-and, how did you find such good ropes to tie me up?"
The villain's eyebrows smoothed out as a second of silence passed between them, tension thickening to the point that it made the hero's breath hitched.
And then the villain laughed.
As in the big scary villain started full out laughing, his hands clutching his stomach as tears sprouted into his eyes.
"Sorry" the hero murmured, suddenly feeling embarrassed. "I blurt out stupid things sometimes. "
"No, no" the villain said as he stopped laughing and walked over to her, looking down at her tied down to the chair. His knuckles brushed over her cheekbone in a gentle caress as he smiled down at her. "I think I'm going to like you just fine. "

"My headache is going to split me in half." Villain griped one day, laying on Hero's lap. They had their eyes closed, rubbing their temple with a gloved hand. "I'm sorry you can't win today, I might have to call in sick." They apologised half-jokingly, knowing how much they love to win.
"I'll take care of you then." Hero gently pushed them off their lap, making them lie down on the couch. "Where's your medicine cabinet? I'll get you some aspirin to help fight off your headache." Villain directed them to where the cabinet is, and watched them disappear into the other room. "God, I love you so much.." They said out loud, grinning like an idiot. "I can hear you, y'know!" "You didn't hear shit!"

"You seem so miserable, why is that?" Hero stood beside the sobbing Villain, reaching a hand out. "It's because you're gone." They replied, their hands stained crimson with their blood.

Quietly Hero snuck in the prison, slipping past the guards before they came across Villain who was in a reinforced prison cell. “Hey,” They tapped at the glass, getting their attention. “I’m here to get you out of here.” Villain glared at them before they spoke. “You’re the one who got me in this cell in the first place.” Their hands were chained and covered, disabling them from picking the lock. Same with their feet.  “I’m sorry about that.” Hero apologised, grinning sheepishly. “You can yell at me later, but for now, Let’s get out of here, shall we?”

"I can't believe we're here again." Hero dropped their weapon, approaching Supervillain with a bitter grin. "Remember? We used to fight here for practice." They turned their gaze towards the sunset. "We fought until the last rays of the day disappeared behind that hill over there." They gestured at the hill they were referring to, their eyes now fixated on Supervillain. "We used to have so much fun." They then sat at the balcony of the ruined building, dangerously close to the edge. "..What happened to us?" "We grew up, that's what happened." Supervillain replied after a long pause. "The world decided we had to go separate ways, but here we are." They tossed their own weapon to the side, sitting beside Hero with their hand placed on their shoulder. They shook them gently, smiling as if they hadn't fought. "It's funny how everyone tried to pry us apart and yet, we're back to where we started." "Yeah.." Hero leaned themselves against Supervillain, who did the same. For a good while, they felt as if they were kids again. Playing with wooden swords, laughing and giggling when the other fell over. It was comforting. They just wished this moment would last longer.

"One day, I'll have to go." Villain said quietly as they and Hero sat in front of a crackling fire, blankets swaddled around their figures. "Someone will get tired of you for not taking me out... And soon enough they'll replace you with another one." Hero looked at them with a mournful expression and though tears weren't welling up in their eyes, it was obvious that they were close to doing so. "Then I'll do my best to not let that happen." Villain stared at the fire which reflected in their eyes. They fell silent, as if they were deciding on what to say next. But then they didn't know what to say at all, so they just leaned against Hero with their eyes closed. "You can trust me." Hero whispered, a glint of metal in their eyes. A dagger was unsheathed from their thigh, making sure that they didn't move much as to cause any alarm. This was their moment. "I won't let them do that." They said lovingly, as the dagger went through Villain's heart. "Not on my watch."

Hero let out a shudder as Villain pressed the cold metal of their sword against their neck, close to drawing blood. Gloating at their success, they went into a long drawl on how sad they'll be to get rid of them since they had such a pretty face. "What a terrible waste.." They lowered their weapon, brushing their fingers across their cheek. Hero took this moment of vulnerability to snatch the sword and turn the tables, pushing them against the wall with the blade aimed at their throat. "Checkmate." Villain's eyes widened at the sight, their face burning a bright pink when they realised that they were cornered. After a moment they smiled and grabbed the sword, lowering it. "How cute."

"I wish you stayed alive a little bit longer to see what I have become." Villain placed a bouquet of flowers at the Hero's grave, stepping back to wipe a tear away from their own eyes. "I changed for the better, for the both of us." "Now please, come back to me."

"If I didn't know any better, I would've killed you right then and there." Villain snapped at Hero, struggling with their restrains. They were captured by them and yet they weren't harmed at all. "And you didn't, why's that?" Hero asked, curious as they tightened the restrains even more. "If you knew that I was going to catch you, why didn't you do anything about it?" They were smiling triumphantly. "Did you want to get caught in the first place? To be tied up and interrogated? Is that it?" Villain let out an annoyed sigh. "No, I didn't want to get caught by the likes of you." They tilted their head to the side, rolling their eyes. "Besides, I didn't have enough evidence to get permission from my boss to detain you." "Is that so?" Hero was amused by this information. "Then tell me more, or I'll slit your throat without hesitation." Torn between the possible chance of being killed or getting fired by revealing private info to the enemy, they decided on the latter. "What do you want to hear?"

“I swear that I won’t leave you alone.” The villain begged, looking up at the hero. “You just have to trust me.”
“And let you get away with this?” The hero grabbed them by the wrist, pulling them close. “You said that line to me countless times, why would I trust you once more?”

“I wish you were here.” The hero said quietly, tears rolling down their face. They stood in front of the ruined building, still holding onto the villain’s cape. Their lungs were filled with the air of dirt and ash, but they couldn’t care less.
They walked into the building as if nothing happened, looking around to see if anything was left unscathed. But all they could see was rubble, with some dried blood on the walls. Teary-eyed they fell to their knees, starting to sob loudly.
“It should’ve been me..” They cried out to no one. “I should’ve died instead of you.”
(I wrote this because I had a minor brownout lmao)
