Augustine Carver
SecondMaleLead!Yandere
Appearance: 6’2”, Ashy blue hair, gray eyes, noble clothing, well dressed, buff. (Picrew image at bottom.)
Setting: Villainess Isekai/Reincarnation Genre style story.
Heads up, the reader made for Augustine is probably the most described one since it’s going to be transmigration. Meaning that the reader will be taking the role of the villainess from the original story. Like literally inhabiting her body. If you want more general reader inserts, you should check out Franklin Russell and Hwang Minsu. Kayden Nguyen also has a more general reader but his is a psychic!reader.
She won’t be described in extensive detail about her appearance or anything, other than that she’s the image of current trends and has a naturally ‘cold and vicious’ appearance, as is typical of the genre she comes from.
Augustine was part of a cliche romance story where he played the part of the other strong man in an unnecessary love triangle who the poor little saintess could rely on when the crown prince was off doing whatever. Sometimes he was doing royal duties so that the 2ndML had time to shine, to build up the readers’ affection for the 2ndML. Other times the crown prince was in conflict with the saintess for more story building and relationship growth.
Basically Augustine Carver’s existence was used as a tool for the growth of the main couple’s relationship.
He cared about her. Wanted her to be happy. Wanted to win her heart.
And they trampled on his feelings by discarding him for their happily ever after.
He even went to war for them. Not exclusively because of them, because he’s a reasonable dude who was doing his due diligence as a noble, but him going to war and fighting for the main couple’s ideals was played up a lot in the novel. And though he wasn’t owed affection simply for helping her, the way the main couple threw him away left a bitter taste on his tongue. The way they shoved him out of the way and belittled him so that he couldn’t rise to become a problem for them in the future instead of fairly compensating him for his efforts after the war was over? Disgusting.
Forced to clean up their mess and then get out of their faces, any amicable feelings he had for the couple, especially since he had grown up as close friends with the crown prince, are extinguished. He’s not stupid. He knew what they were doing, as much as they wanted to play dumb whenever he spoke with them in person.
Reader, feeling rage and contempt for this, gets fucking yoinked into the world of the story.
The reader’s soul merges with the Villainess’, making them one and the same with twice the memories. So you’ll see me switch between “you” and “the Villainess” a lot, depending on current and past actions.
Ages during the story and after story:
Saintess 19 > 22
Crown Prince 20 > 23
Augustine 21 > 24
Villainess 20 > 23
2nd Prince 16 > 19
Setting Details:
Magic is real but sparse. We’re talking 1 in 300,000 kind of thing. Mages are given a lot of prestige, and many get employed by the royal family. Magic powers can range from just being able to light the stove, to massive fire balls, to insane weapons of mass destruction shit. There’s also healing too.
The Saintess is a figure that’s meant to fight off the miasma. A holy and divine power. Actually not a unique role, which is discovered when you enter the story. The author made it out to seem like it was, but it turns out that it isn’t.
Background and relationships between characters:
Villainess was the original prospective fiance to the Crown Prince. As the only daughter around his age from a ducal family, it was essentially set in stone that she was going to become the future queen. With latent magical abilities, she kept them hidden, lest there be trouble because of power imbalances between the nobles. She was already going to become the queen, so for her to also be a powerful mage? Shit would’ve gone down. So she keeps it hidden throughout the novel, keeping her family safe from political strife. Though she didn’t care for the Crown Prince romantically, she still thought they were good close friends. Until the Crown Prince becomes smitten with the Saintess and disregards her presence entirely and humiliates her by doing so. Villainess retaliates accordingly, but in typical romance genre fashion, her legitimate critiques are interpreted as harassment.
In the original story she goes on to be like “Fine. If you’re going to keep believing that I’ve been harassing your precious flower then I might as well have done the things you’re accusing me of.” And she goes on to actually commit to the bit. The reason why she isn't killed or banished is because the Saintess’ role isn’t unique. There are others, Saints and Saintesses. Think of it more like an RPG class. They just weren’t covered in the story. So despite being special and key roles to dispelling the miasma, the Villainess’ bullying is the same as if she were harassing a lesser noble. Still bad, but not enough to warrant such harsh punishment. This is of course, if the story goes according to the novel.
Augustine is also a childhood friend of the Crown Prince, making them and the Villainess a trio from youth. He never really thought of her in any romantic way early on because she was going to become the Crown Prince’s fiance. He knew better than to fall for the future queen. That mentality stuck around, though he is still fond of her as they grow up and go through school, and through life. Though he falls for the charms of the Saintess, he’s still good friends with the Villainess. They have a lot of side conversations too. When he sees how the Crown Prince treats the Villainess after meeting the Saintess he confronts the man. Asks him why the hell he’s doing this to their close friend and his fiance. The Crown Prince then describes the Villainess as a villainess, basically believing all the rumors of how she had harassed people.
Augustine is skeptical, because while he is fond of the Saintess, he hasn’t fallen so blindly and has faith in his friend. He does clear up the misunderstanding between himself and the Villainess. But he isn’t surprised when she hits her breaking point and actually follows through with the bullying. It’s after she does this that he turns his back on her and falls into the Saintess’ faction. Something he regrets later on. Not because he supported her harsh actions, but because he knew she was coming from a place of hurt and as her friend he didn’t do more for her. Also has a sense of camaraderie cause they were both done dirty by the royal couple, though he knows that their feelings about it are different.
Also he’s the heir of the Count. Some time between the 3 years of the story he officially becomes the Count.
The Crown Prince is young and naive. He wanted to feel like a hero and worshiped, but the Villainess wasn’t raised to be anything like that. He does however feel like that with the Saintess, which is how everything spiraled so fast. The Saintess being his first love and his dream girl is what makes him into one of those people that prioritize their romantic relationships above all else.
The Saintess is a white lotus bitch. She appealed to the Crown Prince intentionally despite knowing of his official engagement to the Villainess. She isn’t a reincarnator or anything of the sort herself. She’s just like that. And because the Villainess can tell that her schemes aren’t elaborate, it’s just a greater insult to her that this clown is meant to become the queen all because the Crown Prince fell head over heels for her. The country is at stake bro.
There’s also the obligatory 2nd Prince that’s younger than everyone else, but will serve to become the Crown Prince’s replacement once you get your fucking hands on that idiot Crown Prince.
Generic background aside, the reader gets inserted at some point in the story as the Villainess.
Now, here’s where I have two separate routes for this. Mid or post story. Mid story allows for more interfering with the original story and changes the outcome greatly. Post story means angst and comfort and revenge. I like both so I’ll differentiate between the two depending on the post.
Mid-story:
Reader becomes the Villainess after the Crown Prince meets the Saintess and falls for her, your memories mashing together as one. Here, you can either ignore or do something about the Saintess, but regardless, your goal (both mid and post story) is to side with Augustine. The Villainess was never an awful person, pretty great actually, so it’s easy to maintain that reputation and steer things a different way. Those familiar with the genre have probably seen endings where the reader would manipulate the main couple into ruin, which is the most likely route I see both options going. It’s just that one is preventative and the other one is revenge.
The Villainess remained complacent in terms of reaching out for higher help in the original story because she didn’t want to cause trouble for her family. You as the reader do not care and utilize all the connections to yank those two off their high horse and drag them through the mud. The way you clear Augustine’s eyes is by showing him just how much of a rat the Saintess is in reality.
The Villainess wasn’t stupid. She just fell into that mindset of “if our years of friendship wasn’t enough to earn your trust, I’m not going to fucking bother.” Which isn’t entirely wrong, but you’re more vindictive so you’re willing to take those extra steps to drive shit home.
Being the villainess means you have “evil” magic, which is just dark magic. Dark as in darkness and shadow, not evil in nature. You practice and hone your skill and eventually get to a point where you can conjure shadow servants to do your bidding at night.
Augustine is curious as to why the Villainess has changed, but comes to understand what major event would’ve caused it, and that perhaps she was just lying low all her life (not really but that’s what he thinks). He’s not surprised that the future queen is cunning. He thinks it’s pretty hot, but again, she’s still engaged so he doesn’t really continue that line of thought.
When his eyes are opened to how badly the Saintess schemes he’s eventually disenchanted by her and joins you on the ‘what the fuck are those two on’ boat. Normally you two wouldn’t be allowed to spend so much time alone together since you were engaged, but because everyone knows the Crown Prince did it first, no one really says anything. Again, you’ve basically kept the Villainess’ reputation intact so if anything everyone is still on your side.
With everything in motion you start to enjoy your time with Augustine properly. He’s drawn in by you and finds that you are his respite from serving the Crown Prince. He’s charmed. But he grew up with such a strong mental boundary that he shouldn’t see you as anything romantic that he doesn’t know what to do with himself once the engagement gets annulled and the 2nd Prince becomes the Crown Prince. At first he thinks that the engagement between you and the royal family is still in place, only being transferred to the younger brother, but you make it clear that you’re not interested in marrying into the family that disgraced you, and no one can really argue with that. Which is good cause he might of started a coup, even though you were trying to avoid him going into battle.
So now you’re walking through the gardens the night that everything went down, and his mind is whirling because all the feelings he’d held back are now bursting to the surface but old habits die hard and he bites his tongue before he can say anything stupid.
It’s up to you to make the first move, and when you do he almost collapses out of relief.
“Oh thank the gods… I didn’t think- I just- Are you sure? Me? You know you’d be marrying down, right?”
“No no no. I’m not refusing. I just- You were always engaged to him so I never-”
“Yes, I care for you. I feel for you more than I’ve ever felt for anyone. I’d be more than happy to send a formal proposal to your family as soon as I get home tonight.”
War is also avoided in this version because it was initially instigated by the couple.
Post-Story:
War is not avoided in this version and he comes home scarred and bitter when he sees what’s there to welcome him back. The couple started to plan their grand wedding as soon as the end of the war was announced. Garish, gaudy, and downright tasteless considering that the efforts should be put into restoration and support for the people. When his so-called friends don’t even greet him all his fantasies of being welcomed back warmly go crashing out the window. He has to schedule an audience with them. Schedule.
And when he does he’s delegated a lot of the tasks that they should be doing to help the people while they make themselves busy planning their dream wedding that could probably feed multiple cities.
You as the reader drop into the Villainess’ body at this point. You find out that you’re in the outskirts of the kingdom, laying low and chilling. Ties are tense between her and her family, but they don’t hate her or anything. Just want her to stop causing trouble, which is frustrating considering she’d been doing that all these years until then.
Once you get settled and used to the new life, you find your way to Augustine, who is also on the outskirts of the kingdom helping the affected areas recover.
When you two meet again he doesn’t know how to react. He’s not hostile, but the way you casually waltzed back into his life leaves him a bit confused. You look at him and your gaze softens when you see how much he’d been through, reaching to hold his cheek and brushing your thumb across his scars. The ones on his face were minor and would likely heal to the point where they were unnoticeable, but looking down, seeing his sleeves rolled up, you could tell that there was more than what was shown.
He stiffens when you reach for him, but you’re a familiar face, and you were never really a threat to him, so he gives into his urge to relax into your touch. Deep down, even when he was at war, he missed the Villainess. His good friend.
Then you welcome him home, thanking him for his efforts in the war, and the man almost breaks down crying right then and there. His throat closes up as he nods, whispering a simple “I’m back,” and a “thank you.”
It’s at this moment that he mentally swears his allegiance to you. He already had time to reflect on how stupid everything was while he was off at war, the distance helping him take a step back and cringe on how ridiculous he was when he was fawning over the Saintess. The guilt and regret mix in with the comfort and familiarity you offer and he can’t find it in himself to deny your outstretched hand.
You help him with his work. When he tries to stop you, saying that noble ladies aren’t meant for this kind of stuff, you give him a deadpan look and he shuts up. You then explain to him how if he’s good enough for this kind of work then you are too.
You two spend the time talking and catching up on the time apart. You tell him about your time away from the capital. What you’ve been up to for the past 2 years. He tells you about what happened after you left, how shit went downhill and his time in the war.
Your reader’s brain knows what happened to him, but hearing him pour his heart out in person just strengthens your resolve to give the couple real hell. The Villainess’ harassment of the Saintess was child’s play compared to what you were going to do to them.
Similar to the mid-story route you hone your shadow magic and work behind the scenes extensively. You mend your relationship with your family, and even have some audiences with the king. The king still cared for you like his daughter because of how long the engagement was, and he was always understanding of the problem. It’s just that as the king he had to dole out a fitting punishment without any bias, which is why you were banned from entering the capital for years, until the duchy made an appeal for your audience with the king.
Lots of discussion and political intrigue that I’m too dumb to figure out happened.
The royal couple are on edge, seeing as how you found your way back to the capital and were talking to the king privately, making the two immature rats act out. They were right to be nervous however, as you scheme behind the scenes to rip away every single luxury the Crown Prince had due to popular demand from the people, infuriated with his conduct.
Augustine is by your side the entire time and was initially on the fence until he discovers that their idiotic plans to essentially lock him away in the outskirts because of the Crown Prince’s jealousy. Then he’s all aboard and adding to your resources.
The entire time he was appreciative of your efforts and liked spending time with you in between moments. When you brush your hand against his grabbing a pen, or place a hand on his back as you squeeze past him in an alley, his breath hitches and he has to do a mental reset as he reevaluates what he’s feeling.
Older him is actually more in denial of his own feelings because he wanted to kill off his romantic desires, but you poured oil on the flickering embers and now it’s a full-fledged flame that threatens to engulf him whole.
When you grabbed his hand and pulled him against you to hide in the shadow of night he had to stop breathing or else the scent of your perfume would drive him insane. The warmth of you pressed against his chest was enough to do it already, and he was barely clinging on by a thread.
It’s up to you whether you confess before everything is resolved or after. The entire time he’s going to be hopelessly pining and pathetically hiding his feelings until you make that step.
His claim on you is still like, ridiculously obvious to anyone with eyes. And those without honestly. He’s glued to your side and quick to asserting himself if literally any other suitors present themselves.

He doesn’t have the scars mid-story of course.

long post about kombat kid ages
Ok doing some age canon/headcanon configuring for the kombat kids in MKX (this is just going off the games and not really the comics because I haven't read them ^^; )
Raiden, Sonya, and Johnny turned revenant Jax, Hanzo, and Kuai Liang back into humans 2 years after MK9 and 20 years before MKX. This means that MKX takes place 22 years after MK9.
Jax met and married Vera after he was turned back into a human. This means that Jacqui was born after that, making her no more than 20 years old. However, she is clearly an adult, as you have to be 18 to join the military without parental consent, which Jax obviously did not give. This means that in MKX Jacqui would be 18-20 years old.
Cassie does not seem to have been born before the revenants were turned back either, plus she is also in the military, and some dialogue implies she and Jacqui grew up/went to school together. She also appears to be an adult, however, unlike with Jacqui, it is more possible she may have been able to get parental permission to join the military at 17. This would put Cassie's age range in MKX at 17-20 years old (although personally I would lean towards her also being 18-20).
Takeda is the one kombat kid we do have a pretty exact age for. When he became chujin, he said that he was 8 years old when his mom died, and that Kenshi hadn't been in his life for 10 years, making him 18 at that time. That took place 5 years before MKX, which would mean that in MKX Takeda would be about 23 years old.
Kung Jin is the most ambiguous. We don't know when Kung Jin might have been born, who his parents are, or what they were doing during the events of MK9. The best clue we have is his attitude towards Kung Lao. His strong feelings about Kung Lao and his fate in MK9 seem to imply that he was alive long enough before MK9 to have memories of times before Kung Lao's death and transformation into a revenant. This would mean that he would definitely have been alive prior to MK9. Typically, adults are not able to recall memories from before the age of 2-4 years old, so he likely would not have been younger than that during MK9. However, in MKX he does seem to still be a young adult, and is almost certainly still in his 20s. By these estimations, Kung Jin would have been 2-7 years old in MK9, 19-24 years old when Raiden convinced him to join the Shaolin, and 24-29 years old in MKX (I would personally lean towards him being on the younger side).
My favorite thing about these age headcanons is the fact that it means that Kung Jin was having to take orders from someone who was anywhere from 4-12 years younger than him. No wonder he was so pissed off about it.
Also, since Liu Kang is 24 years old in MK9 and has a line in MKX about Kung Lao being like a younger brother to him, Kung Lao is probably close to the same age as Liu Kang, but slightly younger. Maybe about 22-24 years old in MK9. This would mean that in MK11 the Kung Lao brought from the past would be younger than Kung Jin, which is fun to think about.

Since the fact that the current bat family ages makes no sense and absolutely infuriates me, here are my headcanon ages
For Bruce a lot of sources have him becoming Batman at 25, that part makes sense but that would mean, on my personal timeline, he would be 44 now and that just seems kind of old to me to still be a vigilante. So I headcanon him as becoming Batman at 22 and adopting Dick at 23. This puts him at 28, for Damian's birth, with Dick being around 17/18 and off with the titans and probably college. It also puts him at 32 for Jason's death. Currently, he's 41
Tl;dr Bruce became Batman at 22, adopted Dick at 23, conceived Damian at 28, and is currently 41
Pre-reboot established that Barbara was a couple years older than Dick, also that she became Batgirl around the time she was starting college. She graduated high school early at 16 meaning she was about 17/18 when she became batgirl. Dick would be around 15 at this time. I've seen some sources say that the events of The Killing Joke (and Death of the Family, which happens a few months after) took place when she was late 20s. This doesn't quite work with the Robins timeline as she was only Batgirl during Dick and Jason's time as Robin. 23/24 makes more sense on the greater timeline. Currently she is 33.
Tl;dr Barbara became Batgirl at 17/18, got shot at 24 and became Oracle shortly after. Currently 33.
Several different sources give different ages for how old Dick was when his parents died, ranging from 8 to 15. We do know that Tim was 3 when he saw Dick's parents die at the circus, so if Dick was 8, the timeline wouldn't be big enough for his and Jason's career as Robin before Tim at 13 takes up the mantel. 12 seems like the most reasonable age for Dick to be for the timeline. This puts him at 18/19 when he goes off to college, quitting the Robin mantle and taking up Nightwing. At 28 he takes up the mantle of Batman with Damian, age 11 as his Robin. He is currently 30.
Tl;dr Dick gets adopted by Bruce at 12, becomes Nightwing at 19 and is currently 30.
Jason's timeline is fairly straightforward. We know he died at 15 and was only Robin for about 2 years. So it makes sense for him to have been picked up by Bruce at 12 and trained for 6ish months and debuted as Robin by the time he's 13. Post death timeline is a little more shaky. He came back to life a few months after his death and wandered the streets for about a year. Talia found him and tried to help him recover, with little results. After about a year or so of that Ra's wants to send Jason away so Talia throws him in the pit. He's around 18/19 at this point. He does travel, training like Bruce did but I don't think it was for nearly as long and he makes his return to Gotham at 20/21. He's currently 24.
Tl;dr Jason became homeless at 10, adopted at 12 and debuted as Robin at 13. Died at 15 and returned to Gotham at 20. Currently 24
Cassandra Cain is slightly older than Jason, by a few months. We know this as she was stated to be 18 in a batgirl issue released in 2004, and a few months later in another comic run Bruce and her visit Jason’s grave and he tells her that it would be Jason’s 18th birthday. With comic timelines this could mean she is anywhere between 1y3m or just 3m older than Jason. Unfortunately I am not too well versed in cass’ history to make a chronological breakdown of her life events.
Tl;dr Cass is approximately a year older than Jason. Currently 24
Now that we are further down in the list the ages are a lot clearer. DC was a lot more willing to give specific ages to characters during the era. So we know that Stephanie Brown is firmly 15 when she becomes Spoiler because she states it. We know that she is still 15 when she is pregnant. After this her timeline has no exact age assigned to it except her death. Stephanie died at 16. This was of course later retconned out and she is discovered alive at 17/18ish and shortly after starts her freshman year of college at either 18 or 19. This is also when she becomes Batgirl.
Tl;dr Stephanie is approximately a year older than Tim and became spoiler at 15. Currently 22
Tim Drake’s ages are fairly clear. He became Robin at 13 approximately 6 months after Jason’s death. He’s a year younger than Stephanie. He takes up the red robin mantle around 17/18
Tl;dr Tim is a year younger than stephanie. He became robin at 13 and is Currently 21
Duke of course is still a relatively new character for DC and one they don’t utilize quite as much as others. They have mentioned his age multiple times in the past several years but is always 16. I do find this hard to let be, as I believe he was also stated to be 16 during the Robin War/We are Robin…. Personally, just to give the guy some range and growth for his age, i do headcanon him as 15 during robin war, where he became a more recurring character in DC and probably about 13 when he is initially introduced. Currently he should be around 17.
Tl;dr DC hates Duke and refuses to think about his age. He was 15 during the Robin War arc, and is currently 17
Damian is another one that is too straight forward as DC is spoon feeding us every next birthday of his. He was 10 when introduced and shortly thereafter became Robin. Most sources state that he also died at 10 but I don’t find the timeline big enough for that so I am going to place him at 11 for that . He was only dead for a couple of months before being resurrected, which would be around 11/12. I believe he just turned 14.
Tl;dr Damian was 10 when introduced and became Robin, Died and resurrected at 11 and is currently 14
TL;DR
Bruce 41
Barbara 32
Dick 30
Cassandra 24
Jason 24
Stephanie 22
Tim 21
Duke 17
Damian 14

What do you think the age ranges are in HotD? It is very obvious Aemma wasn't eleven when she married or fifteen when she had Rhaenyra. There is no second Great Council and Aemma is visibly pregnant with Rhaenyra so I putting her at 20 and Viserys at 25 making them 35 and 40 in the first episode. I think Daemon is around 3Oish. Alicent is 16/17 to Rhaenyra 14/15.
Alright putting my ages on top and then i’ll kinda ramble a bit haha-
Viserys - like 24ish in flashback, just shy of 40 in the first episode
Aemma - like 19 in flashback, somewhere around 33-34 in the first episode
Daemon - like 25-27 in the first episode
Rhaenyra - lower end of 15
Alicent - lower end of 14
Okay so my read on Aemma and Viserys in that flashback and also their relationship is still that they married really young - i got the impression that they’ve been partners for a very long time, long enough that Aemma feels comfortable putting her foot down with him which still means imo that Aemma got married a bit young (also as kingcunny said a few days ago, i got the feeling that part of why Laena freaks him out but Alicent doesn’t is because all he sees when he looks at Laena is his guilt over killing Aemma, which means they were young when they married too to me). I landed somewhere on her being sixteen and him being like 21-22 ish when they marry, so she’s like 19 in the flashback, and he’s like 25ish, so roughly around the same age as you clocked too. Which then makes him like 40ish when he marries Alicent and like….58ish when he dies?
With Daemon, I kept getting the impression he was like…..still considered a young hot shot but also old enough that his behavior is getting a bit troubling bc it’s not straightening out. And tbh…..Idk if it was just because Matt Smith reads a bit young in general to me but I guess I got the impression that the age difference between him and Viserys was more severe, like young enough that he has more of a “big sister” relationship with Aemma than a “we are both lil rascals” thing they had in book canon (or at least that’s MY read of all of them in book canon, is that up until Rhaenys’ marriage, Gael, Rhaenys, Aemma, Daemon, & Viserys were all kinda running wild in the Keep, and probably Rhaenys was excitedly telling Aemma and Gael that they can visit whenever they want, but don’t miss her too much because she’ll have to move back to the Red Keep after she has a son so she and Aemon can train her son to be king, obviously). Anyways, I clocked him as like 26ish, so quite a bit younger than you. That makes him like almost 30 when he marries Laena, and then like 45-46 when the Dance kicks off. Which, part of why I like him being a bit younger is because he’s around the same age as Viserys is when Viserys started getting really obviously sick (we see his hand fucked up by the time he’s 40, and he’s struggling to get around already by 42-43 when Helaena is about to be born), and I like to think this adds to his general erraticness during the last episode - not just that Viserys is dead, Viserys chose Rhaenyra over him, but now he’s the age Viserys is when he started to decline and he’s got jack shit to show for it, not even Viserys’ love.
For the girls I guess I just…..from the way Alicent dresses, it made me feel she’s only recently ~flowered~ whereas Rhaenyra has been A Maiden for a bit longer. Rhaenyra feels much more aware of her body and beauty, wearing clothes that are cut closer and in a more flattering way (or well, they’re trying haha, some of those cuts were bad) whereas Alicent especially in that introduction scene and her awkwardness at the tourney, made me feel like she’s very new to puberty. Like, Rhaenyra went through her awkward phase, she’s fine, it’s why she thinks so often about how much she doesn’t want to marry, whereas Alicent kinda shot up recently and overnight, and it’s made her more awkward as a result.

Random but how old do you think the knights, Gwen, and Merlin are?
*pulls down that giant rolled up projection screen they use in classrooms* okay sO
from what i remember, BBC Merlin canon timeline is 10 years (give or take) with some timeskips here and there just to speed up the process for a 5 season show.
now, here is a list of my assumptions of the characters' ages based on what hints canon provides us as each season begins
s1 character ages:
arthur - 21
merlin - 19
gwen - 20
morgana - 19
the knights? come back to me in 5 business days
s2 (i'm assuming there's a year timeskip here but y'all can correct me if i'm wrong)
arthur - 23
merlin - 21
gwen - 22
morgana - 21
s3 (year timeskip, meaning we miss 1 year of stuff)
arthur - 25
merlin - 23
gwen - 24
morgana - 23
s4 (year after finale; missing a year of arthur being a regent)
arthur - 27
merlin - 25
gwen - 26
morgana - 25
s5 (timeskip of 2 years according to the wiki)
arthur - 29
merlin - 27
gwen - 28
morgana - 27
s5 finale
arthur - 30
merlin - 28
gwen - 29
morgana - 28
more analysis under the cut because goddamn did i go off
-
edit: ok so first time it didn't cut off so hopefully i fixed it
s1 ep9 the show celebrates Arthur coming of age and being officiated as the crown prince of camelot. ergo, it's his birthday and he's turning 20/21 and it's been about 20 years since the Purge Uther started after the death of his wife wherein he directed all his anger and blame to the magic community because the man can't take failure well
however, short research shows that a typical age chosen for coming of age falls around 15, 18, and 21. doing process of elimination, it can't be 15 or 18 because arthur would have to be born after the Purge began, and Uther started all of this when Ygraine died, making arthur's birth very strange if he was born after her death lol.
so, we can conclude that arthur is 21 in s1 because he turns 21 on his birthday.
Merlin, following what the canon storyline gives us, is born a year or so after Arthur's birth and Ygraine's death. given Balinor's account on how he fled camelot, he was tricked by Uther into leading many dragonlords and dragons to their death which possibly happened a couple months (at most 6 imo) since Ygraine's death. then he fled and spent some time in ealdor, meeting Hunith and they were probably together for a year? until he left again some time before she gave birth to Merlin.
so, Merlin falls into the 18/19 age range by s1
Gwen I feel could be the same age as Merlin or she's just a year older. I know she's older than Elyan but by how much i don't remember the show saying. so it's possible Gwen started off as 19/20 in s1
given these estimations, we will now try and fit them into the story's timeline and see if we're able to find a somewhat accurate assumption on where the characters' ages fall by s5.
in my mind by "Moment of Truth" (s1 ep10) it's been a year (or close to, like 10 months) since Merlin's been serving Arthur. and by the end of s1 it most definitely has been at least a year since Merlin came to camelot.
by s3 there's been a time jump: Morgana has been "kidnapped" by Morgause and Uther's had his men searching for his ward for a year at most. doing the math, that means Arthur is 24, Merlin is 23/22, and Gwen is 23/24. in s3 we do celebrate Morgana's birthday (s3 ep5) but it's never clear how old she is.
i, at first, assumed she was older than Arthur simply because she was older in the legends. of course, the legends are used more as an outline than a set script so they have her younger than Arthur. also, in the show Morgana is the illegitimate child of Uther, so, to me, it'd be strange for Uther to cheat on his wife (who he mourns in the show) rather than him just having and affair with Morgana's mother, Viviane, after Ygraine's death.
using that string of logic, Morgana probably was born a year or so after Arthur, making her closest in age to Merlin which....plot-wise is interesting now that i think about. what if they were born on the same day, same time, cementing the idea that they are one in the same yet foils of the other, each other's doom.
anyway,
i don't think i'm going to touch the knights' ages simply because that will make this post so much longer than it needs to be. i might do a separate one when i have time or when i'm ignoring my midterms lol.
but yeah, long story short: BBC Merlin is very good at being vague with time and ages but not in a way that super confusing and takes away from the plot. also it's fun to piece together the timeline of this world with the hints provided.
tldr: story takes 10 years and began when our lovely characters were in their late teens/early twenties and ended with them in their late twenties to early 30s

(from clemsharmony)
questions on the sun hashira au,, that i’m having to send through submissions because i hit the character limit for asks LOL
do you know roughly how old you see the characters as? i know tanjirou is 21 and nezuko biologically 12, but i don’t think you’ve said about anyone else! i’m seeing giyuu as pretty young since i generally imagine him being no older than thirteen in final selection, so even though in KNY canon he’s one of the middleaged hashira, i see sh!giyuu and think he’s one of the youngest of the not-friend-group.
makomo must be 22 or 23 now if she saved little tanj when she was a ‘remarkably young hashira’, and the other hashira’s ages are pretty easy to figure out since you’ve said tanjirou’s 21. inosuke is probably 21, genya zenitsu kanao and aoi 22. senjurou has no *explicitly* confirmed age, but he is said to be the same age as mui in a light novel, so i think it’s safe to say however old yuui and mui are, he’s roughly the same. the tokitou twins would be 20, and you say senjurou is younger than yuui, so he could be 19 or 20 too.
so yeah, i’ve figured out the hashira’s ages pretty easily. it’s the tsuguko’s / slayers ages i’d love to know! are you sticking with their canon age order, or messing them about a bit? i’d like to imagine gyoumei still being the oldest of them all, maybe 18, though if he was that old then there wouldn’t be many years between him and genya. like i said before, i love little giyuu too.. but you could very easily say that his final selection was when he and sabito were a little older, or he’s trained under tanjirou for a good few years, so would be old enough to stay in the middle-ish age range of the not-friend-group.
if you can’t tell, i absolutely love analysing character ages.
-
-
i also put a lot of thought into character ages! luckily for you, they’re one of the first things i wrote down! so here’s a big ass list:
so first off, you got basically all of the hashira right
kamado tanjirou - 21
makomo - 25
rengoku senjurou - 19
agatsuma zenitsu - 22
tsuyuri kanao - 22
kanzaki aoi - 22
hashibira inosuke - 21
tokitou yuuichirou - 20
shinazugawa genya - 22
i kept their age differences relatively canon, and used senjurou’s age in kimetsu gakuen where he’s a first year in junior high which would make him 12/13 ish in actual canon. aoi doesn’t have a canon age beyond “at least 16” so she’s just the same age as kanao and genya
(continuing below the cut because wow, this got a bit long)
the littler guys are a bit weirder because their age differences are a lot crazier. so i changed some stuff up and squished some age differences so the entire group is just kind around 15 (with the obvious exception of muichirou, who is the same age as his brother)
tomioka giyuu - 15
sabito - 15
kochou shinobu - 14
rengoku kyoujurou - 15
uzui tengen - 16
kanroji mitsuri - 14
tokitou muichirou - 20
shinazugawa sanemi - 15
himejima gyoumei - 17
iguro obanai - 15
kochou kanae - 15
kaigaku - 15
did you know that we don’t actually know how old giyuu was when he and sabito went to final selection? canonically, his sister died when he was thirteen, and that’s also when he started training with urokodaki, but we don’t know how long he trained for, if he went to final selection the same year he came to urokodaki. anyways, in this au, giyuu trains for two whole years with urokodaki before going to final selection
and here’s just . a list of a bunch of other characters, both major and minor
kamado nezuko - 20 (physically 12)
murata - 15
kumeno masachika - ??? somewhere in his 20s
ubuyashiki kagaya - (spoilers, i’ll talk about this eventually)
ubuyashiki kiriya - (spoilers, i’ll talk about this eventually)
nakahara sumi - 19
terauchi kiyo - 19
takada naho - 19
gotou - 16
suma - 15
makio - 15
hinatsuru - 16
haganezuka hotaru - 14
kotetsu - 19
yushirou - over 300
tamayo - ~30
tsugikuni yoriichi - over 300
if someone isn’t listed, i either do not care about their age or i do not know what to put. most of the demons are left alone because i didn’t want to actually go through the trouble of swapping them around. sorry

Undercover Care
as a young, broke senior in high school, you take up a babysitting gig, not knowing you’d be babysitting a mafia bosses sons.
Tumblr media
You sighed quietly, looking over the job listings on the website one more time. Most of the jobs wanted people with experience, something you didn’t have, so finding a job was…a little difficult to say the least.
You wanted something simple too, just something to get you off your feet, not some crazy over the top job that drained you more often than not. You ran a hand through your hair, jumping slightly when you got a notification about a new job being posted. You hover your mouse over the listing before clicking.
The notification took a second to load but once it did you started reading. A babysitting gig. You hummed, looking over the details. 3 kids, ages 21, 22, and 16, access to food while working, $8,000 a week, bedroom if need- $8,000 a week!? You blinked, rubbing your eyes to see if they were playing a trick on you. Nope. $8,000 a week. What kind of rich fucker was this guy? $8,000? For three kids? Scratch that, two of them weren’t even kids anymore, and they still needed to be watched?
You looked over the details one more time. “I mean…it’s not a bad option…” you mumbled to yourself, clicking on the contact number. You copied it down into your phone, dialing and calling as soon as you did. You took a deep breath, listening as your phone rang. Tragically, you couldn’t help but hope the guy wouldn’t pick up. Awful, you know. But you were a nervous wreck. You were only 19, so what if he didn’t hire you? What if he wanted someone with experience? Or someone older? What if-
you were cut off by the sound of the phone being picked up. “Hello? Who is this?” The man on the other side asked. “Um, hi. My names Y/n and I was um…looking at the babysitting position?” You winced slightly at how awkward you sounded, although it probably sounded worse over the phone. “Ah yes! I didn’t expect someone to respond so quickly!” The man said cheerfully. “My names Philza Minecraft. It’s lovely to meet you, mate.” He said. You smiled, at least he was a nice guy. “Uh yeah. Nice to meet you too.” You said, feeling a bit less awkward.
“Now, my boys can be…how do I put this…rough. They don’t really like new people, so you will have to win them over. If they don’t see you fit within a month, sadly I would have to let you go.” The man, Philza, explained. You nodded before remembering he couldn’t see you, so you just let out a hum. “First question, how well do you deal with high stress situations?” The question caught you slightly off guard. “I’d say I’m pretty good?” You said, shrugging to yourself. “And what about cooking? Can you cook well?”
You thought to yourself for a second. “Yeah I’m a pretty good cook.” You and your mom used to spend two nights a week learning a new recipe together, you even still have her old cookbook that she gave you before the divorce. “Wonderful! Now, how old are you?” He asked, making you panic slightly. “I-I’m 19, sir.” You said nervously, biting your lip. “Perfect! You’re hired.” Your jaw dropped slightly. That easy? “O-okay. When should I come in?” You asked, getting over the shock quickly. “Come in tomorrow at 9. I’ll have a schedule for you by then. I’ll text you the address.”
You smiled to yourself. “Thank you so much sir.” “Please, call me Phil, mate.” He said, his tone cheerful. “Before you go, what are your boys’ names?” You asked curiously. “Ah, Techno, Wilbur, and Tommy.” He told you. You smiled. “Alright. I can’t wait to meet them tomorrow.” You said happily. “Well it was nice talking to you, but I have got to go to a meeting soon.” He said, the sound of rustling on the other side of the phone. “I understand. Have a good day Phil.” You said, pulling the phone away from your ear as you hung up.
You say there for a second, processing the fact that you, a 19 year old, now had a job. A really, really good paying job. You cheered to yourself, standing up from the chair quickly. “Hell yeah! I’m employed!” You said happily, spinning around a little bit. It took you about 5 minutes to calm down, but excitement was still running through your veins. You had a job now! You smiled to yourself, going to the kitchen to make food before you started getting ready for bed. You made something simple, just some chicken tenders and sweet ‘n sour sauce. You sat down on the couch, placing your plate on your lap and you grabbed the remote, flipping to a random cartoon channel. You ate in peace, going through all the possible outfits you could wear tomorrow.
You say there for a bit, almost just snacking on your now somewhat cold food. Once you finished, you turned the tv off, going to the kitchen to wash your plate before going to bed. You hummed to yourself as you cleaned, still going through all your possible outfits you wanted to look professional but also not too professional, you were only 19 after all. You set the plate on the drying rack and dried your hands, jogging slightly as you went to your room. You quickly changed before going to the bathroom to brush your teeth, looking yourself over in the mirror. After getting fully ready you finally got in bed, the buzz under your skin finally going away. You fell asleep peacefully, excited for tomorrow.

(This is going to be a series! I’ve had the idea in my mind for a while so I thought it would be nice to write it out!)

“You should be rejoicing friend!” Oberyn Martell pushes aside the flap of Rhaegar’s tent as he followed the Silver Prince inside. Many knew that Rhaegar was already in a brooding mood, but Oberyn didn’t seem at all bothered as he persisted. Even on the trek back to camp, Oberyn had tried to pull Rhaegar out of his mood since victory still rang in his blood. The other lords knew better though.
Rhaegar could still smell blood on the field that was miles away. A field he had left strewn with corpses. “It’s hard for me to rejoice when there is so much blood on the ground.” He had never liked hurting anyone. Even when practicing wielding a sword at a young age, Rhaegar had always been reluctant to strike at his instructor. Never relishing in spilling another man’s blood, that had never been him.
“That’s the cost of any war.” The Dornish prince shrugs while rooting through Rhaegar’s wooden wine cabinet. His nose scrunches up. “This is all you brought? It might as well be swill from your Blackwater Bay. None of these can compare to our Dornish wine.”
Rhaegar takes off his helmet and hands it to the young squire who had been quietly attending him. The young boy stood starstruck as he was in the presence of two men of royalty and strength. Rhaegar knew what was going through the boy’s mind, he wanted to be just like them out in the battlefield. Oh how young boys are so ignorant of the truth of war and battle. He was a cousin of one of the Dornish houses, sent especially to be Rhaegar’s squire in this war as House Dalt wanted to show the prince that they were right by his side, just like the other Dornish houses. Great and small they clamored to win Rhaegar’s favor considering that he had agreed to wed their beloved Elia. Finally after centuries of strife, houses Targaryen and Martell were finally combining their forces and making a truly strong alliance. Something that even Aegon the Conqueror failed to do.
Breathing still haggard as the battle of that day was running through his head, Rhaegar allows young Bors Dalt to remove his armor.
He had killed men that had once sworn themselves to him and the Targaryen family. Men that he would’ve once considered comrades now were on the opposing side. The fault was not on them that they fought for Aerys. What else were they supposed to do? Aerys was still king. He still ruled the people with fear.
It would be wrong to call it a battle though. The troop that Aerys had sent out had been a small one; clearly the Mad King didn’t think his son capable of gaining himself a sizeable army.
Aerys’ troops were massacred on the field of Summerhall mainly by the soldiers of Robert Baratheon’s troops. All of his men met Aerys’ army head on without a moment to waste once Robert learned that the king’s army were in the territory of the stormlands. Robert had called his bannermen to fight them off, promising Rhaegar that he would make quick waste of them. He wanted the glory in advancing Rhaegar’s army. As much as he appreciated Robert’s enthusiasm, Rhaegar insisted that he fight as well.
Immediately on the field, Rhaegar knew that his father’s men didn’t stand a chance. It could have been over without bloodshed had Rhaegar insisted on speaking to them first. Many of his men though told him that it would be useless. That Aerys held too much control over those men. They probably feared Aerys more than they feared Rhaegar; even faced with thousands of Baratheon bannermen.
Sensing the Westerosi Prince’s anguish, Oberyn sighs and puts down his drink to pat Rhaegar on the back. “It’s part of war. Death and blood. You can’t wish to claim the throne without it. Just remember though, you’ll be sparing the lives of thousands by uncrowning your father. Many others will realize it too and join your side. The more battles we win, the more the people of Westeros will see that Aerys can never beat you.”
In his heart, Rhaegar couldn’t convince himself that it was all going to be worth it. Nothing was worth anything anymore since (y/n) had died. He was going through the motions but didn’t have the fire in him like he once did. The Long Night could consume all of the Seven Kingdoms for all he cared about.
Outside he could hear the booming laughter of Robert Baratheon and his men. Oberyn motions his head toward the merriment. “Why not get drunk and be grateful like them? We’ve won our first battle.”
Robert had everything to be happy about. He was wed to Lyanna a few months back. And now he had this victory on his belt as well. “Maybe later. I want to rest for now.”
Defeated, Oberyn shrugs and gathers young Bors by the shoulders. “Come now. You and I will drink instead.”
The young squire smiles nervously but is all too ready to leave with Oberyn. That is until they bump into a messenger who is blocking their way out.
“To who do we owe the honor to?” Oberyn takes the rolled up letter that the messenger had handed to him.
“Lord Tywin Lannister of Casterly Rock. He wishes to speak with you and Prince Rhaegar.”
Rhaegar flashed the messenger with slitted lavender eyes. “What does he want.” What could that man possibly want to speak to Rhaegar about. Tywin had been all too willing to help Rhaegar in his endeavors to win the Iron Throne, but when (y/n) died Rhaegar didn’t want to speak to the Lord of Casterly Rock anymore. Thinking of how he neglected his kind daughter and continued to ignore her existence even after they were married.
“Be at ease, Rhaegar.” Oberyn glances over the words on the parchment. “I had to do something since you no longer wished to negotiate with your former father-in-law.”
He cringes at that. “For a good reason.”
“Allies are allies. And we need as many as possible. No better than the lord that shits gold himself.”
“And what is he asking in return for our allegiance?”
“I am to marry his daughter Cersei.”
That actually made Rhaegar laugh until he caught the expression on Oberyn’s face. “You can’t be serious.”
He shrugs, unconcerned. “It’s a small price to pay. Plus I hear she is very beautiful. Not by Dornish standards of course. Beauty is beauty though. And I’m sure seeing his daughter as a princess won’t be a bad thing either.”
“He already had a daughter who was a princess.” Gritting his teeth and clenching his jaw, Rhaegar took the parchment and tore it in half. “An even more beautiful and kind daughter. She was my princess and would have been my queen too.”
“I’m sorry you don’t think I’m as kind as my sister.”
Everyone turned at the voice of Cersei Lannister. She stood there, regal and lovely despite there being slight shadows under her eyes. Another year passed had done the Lannister beauty wonders in making her features even more captivating. Cersei had already been a lovely maid last Rhaegar had seen of her, now she could possibly make any man bow down to her. Except for Rhaegar. Had (y/n) been given the chance to live she would have been just as beautiful.
Oberyn’s dark eyes widened at the vision presented in front of him. “Lady Cersei, what do we owe the honor to? Surely the battle camp isn’t a place a lady as fine as yourself frequents at.”
Vivacious green eyes stare down Rhaegar as she addresses Oberyn. “My father felt that our Targaryen Prince would have some. . . issues with our arrangement. My sister must have painted us in such an evil light. I am here to ensure Your Grace that you have the support of House Lannister. Nothing else. As long as Prince Oberyn keeps to his words that he will wed me in due time.”
There was much doubt in his heart about the Lannister’s sincerity. “It’s hard to believe that the Lord of Casterly Rock would merely accept a marriage proposal for an alliance.”
“As you know he also has no love for your father. He would do just about anything to spite him. And since the death of my sister, well, he feels that Aerys should be thrown off the Iron Throne.” The way she spoke to him reminded Rhaegar that she was in every way Tywin Lannister’s daughter. Cersei was smart with her words and eloquent in the delivery.
Eyes darting to both Cersei and Rhaegar, Oberyn frowns. “You hold so much hostility for one so beautiful, Rhaegar. She means no harm and the alliance with the Lannisters will help us greatly when the time comes to storm King’s Landing. He can get the other western lords to join us. Plus she is your family.”
That made Rhaegar snap like any furious dragon. “She’s not my family. (y/n) was my family. Cersei treated her like a pest that needed to be exterminated.”
“Rhaegar,” Oberyn lowers his voice so that it was more directed to him “we need their help. Whatever discrepancies you have with the Lannisters died with (y/n). Let us start a new. Think of what your men are fighting for, to put you on the Iron Throne. Do not forsake them for your malice.”
Staring at Cersei, Rhaegar hated to admit that Oberyn spoke the truth. A heavy sigh passes his lips as he hangs his head in resignation. “Very well. How many troops does your father have?”
“Many. Far more than the Lord of Storm’s End.” She briefly looks at the Lannister messenger. “Send word to my father. Prince Rhaegar has agreed to our assistance.”
The messenger nods and hurries off.
“Good. Now that that’s settled I believe we all deserve a drink.” Cheerily, he grabs Bors once more and holds out an arm to Cersei.
She declines with a polite smile. “I would like to stay and speak to Rhaegar for a moment longer.”
“As you wish, my lady.”
Once they leave, all polite facade melts from her. “I could have been your queen, you know.”
“Yes. I’m well aware of that. In the end I still believe I made the right choice.” Rhaegar pours himself a drink, not bothering to offer Cersei. “Did you even feel any sorrow when (y/n) died?”
There’s a little scoff from Cersei as she serves herself. “You know very well there was no sorrow in me for her. My sorrow was saved for my brother Jaime. The very night she died, Jaime disappeared. No trace of him left on this world.”
“Of course. You and your brother.” Rhaegar catches the flap of his tent, wondering if Oberyn was out of earshot. “You’re really set then on marrying Oberyn.”
She nods. “At least he’ll make me a princess, possibly a queen.”
“What makes you think queen? What are you and your father scheming.”
“The fate that should have been rightfully mine but you looked me over for that. . . that mouse!”
Inside of Rhaegar the dragon was stirring, opening it’s amber eyes and smoke streaming from it’s nostrils. “Watch your mouth. I will have no ill words spoken of her. She was a far better woman than you’ll ever be.”
Cersei rolls her eyes. “Yes, yes. You’ve said it all before. Don’t forget though, at one point you didn’t think she was the best woman. You wanted Lyanna Stark.”
“That was a long time ago.”
“Not long enough for it to not hurt her. You wounded her greatly. Don’t forget that. You try to shine your love onto her now that she’s gone. Where was it when she needed it most? (y/n) probably died still thinking that your heart belonged to Lyanna.”
It was worse than a slap to the face. Cersei knew this well as she grinned triumphantly. “You had your chance. Now I’m taking my fate into my own hands.” *
Back in her own tent that had been promptly set up, Cersei reclines into a chair weary and thirsty. Her tired eyes drift to the mirror that had been set up for her. She wouldn’t be staying long but she would be damned if she didn’t have any of her amenities. In the reflection she saw the dark rim of her eyes and the paleness of her face. Since Jaime left, Cersei hadn’t gotten a good night's sleep in a year.
She was certain now that (y/n) was alive despite everyone claiming her to be dead. There was no body, none except for the maid Thalina who had gotten in her way. Many had just assumed that (y/n)’s body had been completely consumed by the flames, leaving nothing but an outline on her charred bed.
(y/n) was alive and most likely with Jaime.
Cersei’s jaw ticks at the thought of them together somewhere. Jaime had betrayed her. In more than one way.
“I’m taking my fate into my own hands.” She whispered to herself. Cruelness and venom laced her words as memories of Cersei standing in (y/n)’s room came flooding back. Standing over her younger sister as she slept, unaware that Thalina lay dying on the floor. The candle in Cersei’s hand inching closer and closer to her until it touched the barest thread of her blanket and engulfed the entire thing. After the poison had failed to overcome (y/n), instead all the poison did was merely take the life of her whelp, Cersei had to do something.
Oh how she had felt triumphant at the moment while she watched that small flame grow, engulfing her sister and becoming ever larger. Now she regretted not slitting her throat. She should have made sure she was dead. Cersei had been too cocky and confident though.
When she found (y/n), she wouldn’t fail. Any assassin and mercenary she had hired were given strict instructions to deliver the head of (y/n) to Cersei. Every one she had sent never did seem to return though. Cersei could only come to the conclusion that Jaime had caught on to her scheme and was defending their sister. He always did know Cersei better than anyone else. Surely he would’ve known that it was Cersei who had tried to kill (y/n) not once but twice. Now he was protecting (y/n) from all the sellswords that Cersei had enlisted. The young knight could only fight off so many. Eventually she would find her. It was only a matter of time. Jaime and (y/n) could only go so far.

With the V-22 grounded, the Navy's venerable C-2 are coming back into action
Fernando Valduga By Fernando Valduga 12/23/2023 - 21:52in Military
Currently, there is only one tiltrotor Bell V-22 Osprey unit operating in the U.S. military. As a result, the U.S. Pacific Fleet again used the C-2A Greyhound to transport to and from aircraft carriers.
After the fall in late November of a U.S. Air Force Special Operations CV-22B near Yakushima Island, Japan, in which eight aviators died, all the Ospreys of the Navy, the Marine Corps and the U.S. Air Force were landed on December 6.
Only the Navy Middle Tiltrotor Squadron VMM-162 (part of the 26ª Navy Expeditionary Unit) flying MV-22B received special permission to conduct limited operations because it has detachments on ships currently deployed, including the USS Bataan (LHD-5) and the USS Carter Hall (LSD-50) in the Red Sea and USS Green Table (LPD-19) in the Eastern Mediterranean.
Tumblr media
All the other Ospreys are grounded. This left some U.S. Pacific Fleet aircraft carriers without their on-board delivery aircraft (COD). Most Fleet aircraft carriers based on the West Coast began using the Osprey CMV-22B variant as CODs starting with the first deployment of the tiltrotors on the USS Carl Vinson (CVN-70) in 2021.
The CMV-22B took over the COD mission both to replace the old C-2As and to serve the Navy's F-35C. Osprey can load the Pratt & Whitney F-135 engine of the Join Strike Fighter and land with it on the aircraft carrier. Greyhound is not big enough to do that.
As a result, the C-2s that served most of the West Coast aircraft carriers in previous decades were transferred to the Norfolk Naval Station, Virginia, on the East Coast, to support the Atlantic Fleet aircraft carriers whose Air Wings do not yet have F-35C squadrons.
Tumblr media
Currently, Vinson, USS Theodore Roosevelt (CVN-71) and USS Abraham Lincoln (CVN-72) use Osprey. On Tuesday, Vinson was operating in the Philippine Sea area, while Roosevelt and Lincoln are currently at their home port in San Diego.

The Japan-based USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76) is currently in the port of Yokosuka, but is still deployed with C-2 based on land at the Iwakuni Marine Corps Air Station in Japan. Their status in port allowed the C-2 of the VRC-30 squadron based in Iwakuni to be deployed to Vinson.
First placed on the field in the mid-1960s, the C-2 overcame the first problems to become a true Navy flagship. The same cannot be said of the CMV-22B yet. The grounding that began earlier this month is the second of the U.S. Navy's Osprey fleet this year.
Tumblr media
All three Forces flying on Osprey paralyzed part of their V-22 fleets in February due to an ongoing problem with the hard transmission of the tiltrotor. This grounding occurred after USAF interrupted its fleet operations in August 2022 due to the same hard transmission problem.
In 2022, the Pentagon's director of operational testing and evaluation (DOT&E) issued an evaluation stating that the CMV-22B only partially met its reliability requirements. He concluded that Osprey could not meet its operational readiness requirements and had an insufficient ice protection system.
Tumblr media
Thanks to its non-pressurized cabin, the CMV-22B cannot fly far above 10,000 feet with passengers (or practically with its crew), which means that it will probably have to fly through weather conditions in which it cannot fly easily. This has made the problem of the insufficient ice protection system more acute and the altitude limitation affects the operations and operational range of Osprey in any climate.
Meanwhile, C-2 veterans now crossing the deck to the Vinson can fly at altitudes of up to 28,700 feet and carry 10,000 pounds of cargo in a range of 1,300 nautical miles, surpassing the 6,000 pounds of cargo of the Osprey in a range of 1,150 nautical miles. The age of the C-2 also makes its maintenance difficult, but it remains a less complex aircraft than the CMV-22B.
Tumblr media
The Navy welcomed the Osprey as a COD that can take off and land vertically from the aircraft carrier and other ships, unlike the C-2, only transported by aircraft carriers, but in practice the tiltrotor V-22 operates from a few other Navy ships besides those of amphibious assault, dock landing and transport dock ships. It is not clear whether the CMV-22B operated with these types.
Thus, in the absence of flying Ospreys, the former Navy C-2s (who are on average 34 years old) are compensating for their CMV-22 until the tiltrotors are allowed to fly again.
Tumblr media
When returning to the deck of the Carl Vinson for the first time since 2021, the ship's crew will be able to reflect on the fact that the old CODs that now bring their correspondence, high-priority supplies and passengers cost approximately $38.96 million each, a third of the price of the landed CMV-22B ($104.9 million per aircraft).
Until the Ospreys receive the green light again, they will have to continue helping.

LU Headcanon's Part 4: Bring back the Twiddies
KIWI WIND “How ‘bout get fucked, mate.” “Eh?” “Oh, choice man!” “All good.” “Oh, yeah-nah, not really.” “Slow down, Trev.” “Ugh, that’s grotty!” “No worries, he’ll be right.” “Bloody nora!”
I used Kiwi instead of Australian cause there’s a larger Polynesian population in New Zealand
But anyway
Sky’s Hylian is based on Korean
Hyrule, Dawn, and Aurora are besties
Hyrule has this huge sketchbook that’s basically a plant encyclopedia without words. It has really detailed pictures he drew of any plant he’s come across starting at age 8 so that he knows which is poisonous, toxic, or deadly and which aren’t
Most of them he learned from experience
Wild cuts Florian’s hair properly, they walked in on him trying to cut it himself and did so horribly so Wild steps in like “I may be shit at this too but I can at least what I’m doing”
Wind has canonically killed a man and we need to address that more
Also probably could and very much would to do it again
Age Headcanons (I know they have official age ranges but like I'm ignoring that)
Time: Physically; mid-30s Twilight: 19 going on 20 Warriors: 24 Sky: 21 Hyrule: 17 going on 18 (Ha) Legend: 21 going on 22 Four: 17 Wind: 13 Wild: 18 going on 19
So, this is technically a theory but it also counts as a headcanon so here it is:
My theory on the Chain becoming, well, The Chain
Each Link was pulled through (read: Walked through, thrown, forcefully pulled, etc.) a portal in order of the timeline. This means they were all thrown into Wild’s Hyrule since they’re at the end of said timeline
This also means that some Links were dropped off at the same time, just in different locations, in order it went:
Sky: Gerudo Desert  Four: Goron City (He just kinda sets on fire) Legend, Time, and Wind: The Great Plateau (Time), Lurelin Village (Legend), Zora’s Domain (Wind) Twilight and Hyrule: Hebra Mountains (Twilight), Korok Forest (Hyrule) Warriors: Hyrule Castle
Wild and Hyrule were the first to meet, they were in the Korok Forest when a portal opened above them and dropped Hyrule through it
I just like the idea of the first game Link meeting the most recent game Link
When one meets another, their triforces will glow, and after they’ve (most) all branched off into pairs or groups, their triforce will glow and give a tugging sensation, telling them to follow it essentially, and leads them all to the Spring of Courage
That’s all I got
The Chain goes to Wild’s Zora's domain and meets Sidon for the first time and are like “who in the fuck is that” cause it’s this fucking HUGE shark Zora with this thousand-yard stare and when he sees Wild he turns into this love-sick puppy and they’re all like “??”
Hyrule hates it when any of them insult his era, cause he's someone who fully believes it's not a hopeless world despite it proving time again that it doesn't care for him
Hyrule is the only one who doesn't have a last name, not in a case of has one and just didn't/doesn't know it (read: Time and Wild) he literally just doesn't have one. Any records of his blood family they could find only listed the first names. No surname given
Time and Twi have the same angry face, Twi will just bare more teeth (well duh)
Twilight has to physically stop himself from chasing things that are thrown, but you can see his head and eyes immediately follow whatever it is
Hyrule's hylian is based on Thai
I have a royalty au who wants to hear more about it?
No one?
Oh well gonna talk about it anyway
Legend: Eldest Prince Hyrule: Youngest Prince Warriors: Personal Guard to Prince Legend Wild: Personal Guard to Prince Hyrule Wind: Wanted Pirate Twilight: Head Groom Four: Local Blacksmith Time: Butler Sky: Local Baker/Former Knight
Fable: Eldest Princess/Twin to Prince Legend Aurora: Queen of Calatia Dawn: Youngest Princess of Calatia Artemis: Personal Guard to Princess Fable Florian: Local Apothecary Tetra: Captain of the Ghost Ship/Wanted Pirate Dusk: Royal Librarian Dot: Local Florist Lullaby: Housekeeper Sun: Sky's Wife/Local Baker/Former Priestess
Additional Characters:
Ravio: "Humble" Bard Malon: Time's Wife/Owner of Lon Lon Ranch Hilda: Queen of Lorule/Best Friend to Prince Legend Styla: Princess of Hytopia Impa: Princess Fable's Lady-In-Waiting
If you’re on the discord then u already know a good bit about it but that’s all you’re getting for now :]
alright I'm done

Greetings! I love your art so dang much!! May I ask your headcanons on the LU boy’s ages?
Totally don’t feel pressured, just curious <3
Have a dandy day!
~🦋🤠
Thank you! I have been thinking really hard about this for a while but I think I have my answer.
This is all purely headcanon and how funny I think it would be for their dynamics and relationships.
The ages themselves are kind of fuzzy, but age order in my mind from oldest to youngest goes:
Time(ofc), Twi, Sky, Warriors, Hyrule, Legend, Four, Wild, and finally Wind.
In my mind, Time and Sky have experienced the most time between their last adventure and the crossover, Time obviously because he is just a whole ass adult married man now and Sky because I would like to think he has gained some responsibility and has started the establishment of Hyrule. I would put Time at mid 30s and Sky mid 20s.
I see Twi as significantly older than the others but with little desire to take charge, seeing as he has no experience in leadership to any capacity, but is the ultimate big brother in late 20s. I also see him as being much older than the others during his adventure.
Wars is also older during his adventure, like dude is a captain in the military, he’s been mature enough for long enough to get to where he is. This is where I get fuzzy with ages, but I would put Wars at 24/23.
This is where my headcanons really get the best of me, but I’m obsessed with the idea of Hyrule being older than Legend. I am all about the “Legend feels guilt for the state of Hyrule’s world” and “Hyrule looks up to The Hero of Legend” ideas but what I really love is complex emotions and Hyrule looking towards Legend, the hero that he can only hope to be, and realizing that its never been more than a broken child forced to think like a survivor. I view Legend as just barely pushing adulthood at 18/19 and Hyrule being 21/22. Their dynamic as two people who could only conjure the ideal image of the other (Legend saving his world for the ideal future and realizing it all falls to ruin anyways + Hyrule trying to do anything in order to live up to the “legendary” previous hero) and being ultimately disappointed by the other is fascinating to me, but I like to think they value each other without the title of hero eventually and are quite close because of that connection.
I’m going to be honest I know the least about Four, seeing as I have yet to really invest much time with his games and character, so I’m just going along with him being a comfy 18 for no particular reason. So sorry to all the Four fans but I would like to hear other people’s ideas.
Again here’s some very biased headcanons, but I like to think Wild quite literally JUST defeated Calamity Ganon and is still at that (1)17 age that we see in the game. I love the LU comic but the Wild I like to include in my works is very much an immature teen, not the angsty sad man. My preference of Wild portrayal is HEAVILY influenced by critbit and it will always be that way tbh. Additionally, Wild and Twi being the most “sibling” siblings in the group just appeals to me and putting them at a similar age gap to myself and my own siblings is just funny to me.
Finally you have the kid brother Wind, who I have such a hard time assigning an age to. His age gap is significant enough that he is much different from Wild, but I would also like to think that some time has passed since his adventure. I would like to put him at the 16 year old range, but if I’m being honest it should probably be more towards the 13-14 range- so I will probably change my portrayal of him a bit to reflect that in any upcoming content.
I am super on the fence about this and since these are fictional and very undefined characters I am mostly fine with sliding the ages up and down for enjoyment, but I suppose this is my personal view on what I think is in line with the content that I personally create. I probably will not even follow this super accurately if I’m being perfectly honest.
Thank you for the ask!

Alright I'm gonna take another swing at the hornet's nest today because fuck it
I'm also going to be slightly amending a belief I've held staunchly since the show freaking aired
I don't think Arthur is 20 in season one.
Think about it. The Great Purge began with Ygraine's death. If we are to believe that Arthur is exactly 20 years old in season one, we must also believe that the entire Purge - from conception to execution to capturing Kilgharrah and all the horrors in between - happens in less than a year.
In 1x01, Uther does not say "It has been 20 years since the Purge began" he says "twenty years since the Great Dragon was captured" meaning that there is an indeterminate amount of time between the start of the Purge (Ygraine's death/Arthur's birth) and Kilgharrah's capture.
So, my new estimate for Arthur's age in season one is twenty-four, prior to the Black Knight episode that names him as "coming of age" and making him Crown Prince, which puts him at 25.
Does that align with the medieval concept of "age of majority"? Probably not, but neither does the costuming, accents, language, or setting of the show, so if they're taking liberties with everything else, we can assume they took liberties here too.
Now, we can adjust what we know of the other main characters going off what we know about the Purge, and Arthur's probable age.
Merlin is likely 19-20 when he comes to Camelot. Reason being that Balinor was hunted after the Purge - after Kilgharrah was captured and Balinor escaped Camelot with Gaius's aid. If we assume the Purge lasted 4 years, which is the most likely - and shortest - amount of time for such a widescale and massive genocide to happen, then we can assume that Balinor fled to Ealdor at Gaius's urging, stayed for a few months at the most, before Uther's men caught wind of him and hunted him down again. This would put Merlin's birth shortly after Arthur's fifth birthday, as Balinor didn't even know that Hunith was pregnant by the time he left Ealdor.
Morgana's age is a little tougher to estimate, because while we know the circumstances of her birth, we don't have canon confirmation of the timing. But what we do have, however, is cast confirmation that Morgana is older than Arthur. Now, if we go with my personal favourite theory, which is that Uther grew tired/annoyed with Ygraine's inability to conceive, and went on to have an affair with Vivienne first, that would put Morgana at a minimum two years older than Arthur. My theory on this matter is also that if Vivienne had birthed a son, Uther would have abandoned Ygraine for her, and raised that son as his own, leaving Ygraine penniless but at least alive. I believe though that since Vivienne had a daughter, that Uther gave up hope there, and likely distanced himself from Vivienne and Gorlois from that point on (which we can also then attribute Gorlois's death to, since we're told that Gorlois died when Uther refused to send reinforcements to him). So, to sum up, we can assume Morgana is roughly 26-27 in season one.
Gwen, we have absolutely no point of reference for, unfortunately. We don't know when she was born, we have no significant events in the timeline that we can pinpoint for her birth, so her age is the most questionable. I've seen estimates that Gwen is 18 in season one, I've also seen younger estimates. Personally, I like to think that she's at least a couple years older than Merlin, but still younger than Arthur, so let's say about 22-ish. (I don't have an estimate for Elyan because I still cannot decide whether he is the older or younger sibling, so let's discuss that too.)
The knights range in age in my head between early 20's (Lancelot and Elyan) to early 30's (Leon and Gwaine) at the time of introduction. The exception being Mordred, who I assume to be somewhere between 18-20 in season five, since we don't actually know how old he is in season one, though he looks to be under the age of ten.
And all of this, of course, is running on the assumption that the entire show takes place over the course of ten years. I saw someone say recently that "well we never see winter or fall so REALLY the first two seasons are one year, then 3-4 is one year, then a three year break, then like. 6 months for season 5, so its only really been like five years!" Like.... okay, firstly, lets take a moment, alright, we know that there are time skips happening in canon, the events are not linear, though they are chronological, these episodes are not really happening back to back, if that was the case, everyone would be dead on their feet exhausted by like 1x10. The only real back-to-back episodes are the two-parters, and Kilgharrah's release, and even with Kilgharrah's release, there was still three days in between those episodes that we didn't see.
So what do we know?
Well, we know for certain that there is one year in between seasons 2 and 3 where Morgana went "missing" with Morgause. We know for certain there's another rough year between seasons 3 and 4. There are three years in between season 4 and 5. That's five years already of time we do not see. Now if we allow a year each per season as well, and just accept that things Didn't Happen during winter or fall, that rounds us up to a nice even ten years.
So, in the end that gives us the following in season 5:
Arthur - roughly 35 by the time he dies
Merlin - just on/under 30
Morgana - 36/37-ish
Mordred - 18-20
Gwen - roughly 32
And all of this is dependent entirely on how long the purge lasted. Because it's just unfeasible to believe it all happened in less than a year. Possible? Yes. Likely? No. Camelot is a well-supplied and well-defended kingdom (mostly) but they don't have the resources to create, begin and end a massive genocide at the level it committed, in less than one year.
And that was far more math than I expected to do before midday on a Wednesday but here we are I guess. If you've read this far, let me know what you think. I want to talk about this, and I am so tired of the "Arthur's 16 in season one" rhetoric, so let's talk about it please.
ETA: a very quick google search shows that the common age of majority in medieval England was 21 for men, and as low as fourteen for married girls, so yeah, we are Taking Liberties here. many liberties. all the liberties.

Which of the three Scream 6 killers do you see as the most likely to be sincerely 'rehabilitated' or at least deeply remorseful one day in the (distant!) future? I wanted to write a fic where I explore this particular issue, by the way, and whether any of our core four could or SHOULD ever forgive them :) Also, what do you think Richie, Quinn and Ethan were each like individually and as siblings in the years prior to Richie's murder spree and death? Obviously there had to be hints of instability and darkness even then, but do you see Richie as the most imbalanced and unrepentant? Were they once all semi-decent kids just trying to impress and protect their father and one another? Was Quinn close to Richie or to Ethan? Do you think they suspected that Richie could or would murder people before he actually did? Did their father directly encourage their sociopathy? You get the idea ---please talk as long as you want since you know how much I always love your answers!
okay this ask is SO good, but i’m going to get a bit lengthy on this one so i’m adding a read more <3
out of the three scream 6 killers, i’m honestly not sure which one is the most likely to be remorseful/rehabilitated. my gut instinct is to say either ethan or quinn, just purely because they’re younger and have more of their lives ahead of them? and i think with that in mind, they’d be more likely to feel bad about it only because they threw their lives away.
(imo, they would NOT regret avenging their bro.)
but i think the idea of your AU is really interesting and could be fascinating to explore. i feel like, with that in mind, maybe ethan would work best due to his friendship with chad? but i don’t know! i feel like either of the two of them are likely options.
now, when it comes to the siblings personalities & dynamics pre-canon? i have a LOT of thoughts…
richie was definitely the favored older son, who is definitely at least a couple of years older than his siblings. i think he was probably around 25 when he died and quinn was about 21-22 in scream 6 while ethan was the same age as chad and in the 18-19 range. so that’s, at the very least, a 5 year gap between him and his siblings if you factor in the fact he died a whole year before scream 6.
quinn was definitely the most outgoing/social out of the siblings although i think a bit of her “slutty” roommate persona was just for the cover… and a bit of coping mechanism for her trauma as well. but she totally has the vibe that she was popular and never had trouble making friends — or even any issue with the fact that people don’t like her.
ethan was 100% the stereotypical youngest kid and he was probably a crybaby growing up lmao.
i’d have to find the post, but i saw someone share their headcanon here awhile back that richie had quinn and ethan help with his stab fan-films and that is TOTALLY canon to me! quinn always got to be the final girl while ethan was always the victim.
i’m kind of inclined to think quinn & ethan were the closest out of the siblings, both due to the age gap with richie and because i think det. bailey and richie had a very special father/son bond that kind of made way for quinn & ethan to become close.
i also HC that quinn would always be the first one to tease ethan but if anyone at school bullied or bothered him then she’d be there in an instant to essentially fight his battles for him 😅 (which, imo, is totally backed up by the scene in 6 when quinn reaches the balcony and ethan so joyfully is like “you guys are so fucked now!” … like she’s always been the protective sibling to both ethan & richie.)
i think the bailey-kirsch family like… very clearly has some screws loose, but i think richie’s issues inherently come from the fact that wayne coddled him too much and never curbed his bad traits.
(this kind of ties into a HC i have that their mom died when the kids were really young but….)
i feel like quinn & ethan definitely had an inkling that richie had to the capability to hurt people, but it kind of raises the question to me that with the way their father idolized him… did the two of them even see that as a bad thing? or was richie’s killer instinct something their dad admired and they kind of wished they had more of themselves?
i also know this is definitely a debated topic in the fandom but i do objectively think ethan had some hangs-ups on the favoritism of richie. like, in the monologue det. bailey has about the special bond between a father and his first-born son there’s a very clear acting choice from jack champion to react to that with some pain that i can’t ignore.
i also think there’s a LOT to be said about quinn’s position as the only girl in a family full of boys that seemingly does not have a present mother but that’s a topic for different post because that alone could be as long as this one is right now lmao.
this has gotten LONG so i’ll leave us off on some fun head-canons lol
quinn 100% mains bowser in mario kart and ethan mains yoshi… she’s also not above literally shoving the controller out of his hands in order to win 🤷
they are also SUPER hyper competitive around each other and struggled to hide that from the friend group in scream 6 lol there was definitely an instance of quinn shoving ethan or his remote during mario kart that earned her a whole essay from chad on how cheating is rude while ethan had to try and suppress his laughter LMAO
okay, one last side note, i actually am curious on how ethan and quinn successfully hid the fact they were siblings from the group because even with fake identities that kind of bond seems really hard to hide to me but that’s a separate essay…

rvb-flavored ask: do you guys have any headcanons re: how old The Gang is in BGC? (Church and Tex are optional for obvious reasons, but feel free to include them if you have a guesstimate for a human au or they just give off a certain Vibe)
we have most of them in early 20s during bgc. ranging from like 20-26? it just makes sense with typical age of recruits and how long we headcanon they’ve been in the military and also their general maturity levels. grif and simmons had bases before blood gulch so they’re the oldest while tucker and caboose are the youngest. donuts middle since even tho blood gulch is his first base we just bc joining slightly older than fresh out of high school. dunno why we just get the vibe. oh wait doc is definitely the oldest. he graduated college and has been with freelancer for a while. uhh actually scrap all of that lemme break it down:
grif: no college, joined the army around 20-21, had at least one base before blood gulch so he’s been with freelancer for a few years. around 25-26 during bgc
simmons: flunked out of college first year because of stress + anxiety, joined the army around 19. also had at least one base pre blood gulch, around 24 during bgc
donut: some college, but joined the army on a whim. 22-23 during bgc
caboose: joined immediately after high school. blood gulch is his first base but was tossed around from program to program bc of his strength before settling with freelancer. around 21 during bgc
tucker: did not even last a semester in college before dropping out and joining the army bc he didn’t know what else to do at 18. blood gulch is his first base. around 20-21
doc: barely graduated college and has been with freelancer for a while. around 26.
kai: joined immediately after high school and fast tracked her way through training since freelancer doesn’t actually give a fuck and she was determined. 18.
sarge: was in the actual military pre freelancer and has been with freelancer for many years. probably in his 60s but he’s not telling
church: around 4-5 years old during bgc. his personality is based on the director when he was around 25
tex: around 4-5 years old during bgc. her personality is based on allison when she was around 27
lopez: literal infant. vibes i would put him in his 30s
okay i think that’s everyone. fuck flowers. uh i don’t care. he can be like. in his 40s i guess
(also yes we know what the book says about the timeline re: sim troopers and church’s age and we don’t care)

What are your headcanon ages for the main character, bachelors, and bachelorettes from Rune Factory 4?
oh my gosh I started answering this like a week ago and then it fell through one of the swiss cheese holes in my brain. Sorry Nonny!
I don't really have any hard headcanons about the rf4 character ages, and really what I do have is just kind of a general age range for them. But if you're curious about how the characters read to me maturity-wise I'll tell you.
Frey/Lest - I think they're in their early 20s, somewhere between 19-23 at the beginning of the game. the amnesia helps them have a bit more of the "youthful innocence" that just comes as being that age. Like you can clearly tell they're grown and responsible enough to have been given the story-compelling mission in the first place, but that also have the energy and optimism of someone who still sees the world as completely open to possibilities without as much of the "i need to have my shit together" vibes an older 20-something might have
Amber and Kiel are the ones I headcanon as the youngest, and they both give me very strong late-teens/babey adult vibes. I don't see them any older than 19 at the beginning of the game. And depending on when in the RF world society would consider someone a Full Adult TM, it can change the lower end of that age range, so even to 16 or 17. They're not children, but they're still kids, if that makes sense. They both still have "parental" figures in their lives so they're not entirely independent as an older adult might be.
Forte, though I actually don't think is too much older than Kiel, she's maybe just a few years older than him. So about the same age as Frey/Lest, early 20s, no older than 25. I think given her family history and her general character she was definitely the girl who had to grow up too fast and has acted more mature than other kids her age needed to. So she can very easily be read as older, but I think there's enough clues in her dialogue and her character to show that she's younger than she wants people to perceive her as.
I get the same general age range from Vishnal and Clorica too, 19-25 though probably closer to college ages. Vishnal I think is the younger of the two butlers. Their roles as apprentices and the fact that they're still in training tells me they're probably still rather young adults. I imagine butler training of the caliber they're going through is a 4-6 year ordeal and I imagine they would have started in their late teens/early 20s, much like most people choosing a career path.
Xiao Pai and Doug are the last of the under 25s. It's hard to know Doug's precise age, given he's not human and dwarves are long-lived in the RF world. So while he might look and act like a hot-headed 19-22 year old, he might be 60-70 years old. They've never really spelled out the lifetimes of the non-human races. Xiao Pai I tend to read as on the younger end of her 20s, but given the way she acts and her general clumsiness (which are often associated with younger people) she could also be older than that. It's hard to say.
Margaret is another one of those ambiguously ages characters, being an elf, we don't actually know how old she is. But I definitely read her as an adult in her mid-late 20s. I think she's the eldest-coded bachelorette, so I could even see her as a 30-something. (I genuinely don't think any of the bachelorettes are supposed to be older than 30 because god knows the developers would have had them complaining about being an old maid and a spinster 🙄) She just reads as a character who has had much more worldly experience than the younger girls, and yeah, some of that can be attributed to the fact that she's had Decades more time and lots of freedom than the others, but she also feels more settled into life and adulthood than a younger character would.
Dolce I think is mid-20s. I can't really explain it, but she just gives me "I'm 25 and I've finally felt my brain chemistry solidify" vibes. I do think what she went through in her life, as well as dealing with an eternally youthful and chaotic spirit of Pico probably made her act more mature than she was, much like Forte, but I also do think she's just a little bit older than most of the other marriage candidates in town.
Dylas and Arthur I think are around the same age, mid-20s. Arthur I could push to late-20s, but there's something about his character that makes me go "oh no, he still has that independent streak of the young 20s" I do think his upbringing also forced maturity onto him at a younger age than would otherwise be expected, but he also took on responsibilities that people might not expect someone so young to do (he also shirked the responsibilities he didn't want to do, so again that independent/rebellious streak) Dylas I think acts younger than he really is, though he's really not all that old. I think he got to spend a several years living as an adult in his original time before becoming a guardian, though he didn't really see himself as 'grown' back then and that carried over to how he behaves in game (with additional traumas)
Which brings us to Leon as the last, I think. He's the one I could possibly see being the oldest of all the bachelors, late-20s to early-30s. In his life before becoming a guardian he has established a whole vocation and had been in it long enough to become a high-ranking priest. Even if he had started his vocational training as a young teen, I don't think he could have gotten as far without spending a good portion of his 20s working at it.
So the tl;dr list:
Lest/Frey: 19-23
Amber: 16-19
Clorica: 22-26
Dolce: 24-28
Forte: 22-25
Margaret: 25-30
Xaio Pai: 20-25
Arthur: 24-28
Doug: 19-24
Dylas: 24-28
Kiel: 16-19
Leon: 27-33
Vishnal: 20-24

Not a member of Rolly U but now that I know you consider yourself one, I wanted to ask if you have any headcanons about him and his role at the shy maid. I always thought his friendship with Aegon was probably one of the most endearing ones.
feel free to ignore if this doesn’t interest you.
OF COURSE!!! Here’s a Duck analysis and Duck headcanon collection! I’m just yapping none of this makes sense I just like talking about the Shy Maid crew.
So Rolly is very much a blank slate character because the chapters he’s in focus more on Jon, Aegon, and Tyrion. HOWEVER!!! I do have a lot of thoughts about him.
In terms of age, I imagine he’s on the younger side. Maybe 22-23. I think he’s definitely older than Aegon, whose about 18-19 (Tyrion says he’s like 16 or something but that was before he figured out who Aegon was), but I think he’s still within Aegon’s general age range. I imagine him to be quite tall, especially taller than Jon and Aegon, and chubby.
I think Jon finds him kind of a nuisance and lowkey annoying (in an endearing way), but keeps him around because Aegon adores him. Duck is intimidated by Jon but tries to act tough around him because he doesn’t want to act like a coward in front of Aegon (Duck admits to thinking Jon would “cut off [Haldon’s] cock and stuff it down his throat,” if he went to a brothel). Very much tired father who tolerates the friend his son dragged in because the friend makes his son happy. Even if Jon and Harry did hire him in the first place. Mean but a softie on the inside, he definitely does have a fondness for Duck considering Jon uses Duck’s nickname in his inner monologue and also says that Duck is a true knight, even if he isn’t Kingsguard material. Jon does secretly adore this guy he just also thinks he’s annoying.
Duck and Aegon are INSEPARABLE. Jon probably didn’t expect that to happen. When Jon lets Aegon be independent he shows up to his meetings late, likely slacking off and messing around with Duck, probably exploring the castle and having a gay old time. He and Duck are always playing and duelling together. Aegon gave Duck a kingsguard position with little hesitation even though Jon, his father and hand, thought it was dumb. Idk what Aegon’s friend situation was like growing up, but I imagine Jon didn’t let him get too close to any children as they were likely always on the move. Jon would’ve been worried Aegon might accidentally reveal himself. So to me I think Duck is one of the first friends that Aegon was actually allowed to keep, especially since he had to be approved of first. So Aegon latches onto this guy because he’s younger and more fun than his dad. I think it’s also cute that Duck and Aegon repeat the silver-haired prince and red-headed hot-head dynamic that Rhaegar and Jon had going on. I bet that gives Jon some complicated feelings. To me they are very much the classic college frat boy dynamic. Really sporty, loud, likes joking around. Maybe Duck brought Aegon out of his shell because it gave him someone to joke around with, since Jon likely didn’t give Aegon the opportunity. I bet they’d love first person shooters and streaming on Twitch.
