Even though Wolfwood is very much not an actual Catholic priest, I do find it compelling that Vash--someone without any religious beliefs and minimal exposure to "Christianity," courtesy of Rem (OG Trigun)--is the most faithful of the two.

And by "faithful," I don't mean so much in a religious or Christian sort of sense. More that Vash holds onto his faith that there is good in people and that everyone is worth saving. That the taking of a life is something so unspeakable to him that it will literally cause him immense mental, emotional and physical pain when he is forced to do so. His unshakeable belief, i.e. his faith that every life is precious and no one is beyond redepmtion irregardless of how morally corrupt an individual may be is so foundational to who he is as a character.

While I've only really experienced this through anime and various other Japanese based video games, I do enjoy seeing depictions of Christian iconography and concepts form non-Western creators. I love the art and memes of Vash being a "biblically accurate angel" (even though Plants aren't angels, I am so fucking happy that people are picking up on the unintentional symbolism) and I do enjoy the amount of, again, art and memes of Wolfwood being a cringefail Catholic priest.

But I also love the non-Western depiction of Christianity in Trigun, or rather the apocalyptic remnants of it. Despite the fact I have lost my ability to have faith in a higher being (and my own personal beef/distate with the Catholic Church/conservative Christianity as a whole), I find the worldbuilding of Trigun fascinating in this aspect as it provides its audience an alternative form of a global religion that's very relevant to our daily lives.

In Trigun, Christianity is very much a shadow of its former self, a leftover remnant of humanity--more specifically, a remnant of an old forgotten belief system--that has been essentialy been lost. Save for a few remaining Bibles and some memories of particular Catholic iconography/symbolism.

But overall, that's all that remains. Just familiar symbols and various rituals that some people are able to recall from their former lives.

So the decision to pair Vash up with someone like Wolfwood, someone who has lost his faith in humanity as a whole but has resolved himself to protect those that he can (or rather, deems worthy of saving) ... I find that relationship absolutely fascinating. Because I'd argue that in most Western depictions of a holy man (typically Christian and typically Catholic, let's be real), it's usually the holy man that is doing the saving. Or at the very least, is usually helping guide the other characters on their own paths towards redemption.

Despite the fact Wolfwood isn't an actual priest but instead an assassin trained by a mercenary group using the guise of an old religion (again, that most of humanity has clearly forgotten about), I find it to be a wonderful storywriting choice to make Vash the "holy man."

They're both incredibly tragic characters that burden themselves with crippling destinies. Destinies that ultimately lead to their own destruction, but hopefully all for the greater good. Vash holds faith that maybe, just maybe, he can make Nai realize the error of his ways and turn over a new leaf.

Understandably, Wolfwood finds this way of thinking horribly childish and naive. He even takes it as a personal insult when Vash continues to insist that killing people, even if it's for the sake of protecting someone else, is wrong.

But Vash isn't wrong for wanting to see the good in people. To borrow a quote from Everything Everywhere All At Once: "You tell me it's a cruel world, and we're all running around in circles. I know that. I've been on this earth just as many days as you. When I choose to see the good side of things, I'm not being naive. It is strategic and necessary. It's how I've learned to survive through everything. I know you see yourself as a fighter. Well, I see myself as one too. This is how I fight."

Granted, Vash doesn't express his beliefs as eloquently as this. But that doesn't really matter, though. Because Wolfwood doesn't need Vash to make express himself this way for Wolfwood to finally understand him. Vash, by the simple of virtue of being himself, is a good person who chooses to see the good in others.

And Wolfwood ... Wolfwood is someone who chooses to see the bad.

Wolfwood cannot quite bring himself to view the world the way Vash does. And Vash will never be able to share Wolfwood's opinions regarding who is worthy of living, either. But they respect each other and understand where the other person is coming from.

It does take Wolfwood a lot longer to understand Vash as a person, let alone his faith in humanity. But when he does, it's so satisfying to watch Vash become someone important to him. Someone that he wants to protects. Because if Vash won't defend himself, Wolfwood resolves to be the one to protect Vash.

Even if Vash doesn't really want that.

It's so fucking amazing to see these two clash over their ideals, whether it's in the form of playful teasing or straight up beating the shit out of each other. But they stay together and hold each other in such high regard despite their conflicting beliefs.

To me, one of the most beautiful aspescts of Trigun is that Wolfwood--a man of faith but only in name--gets to have such a close connection with Vash--a man of faith through and through--and that because of their relationship, they both inspire a existential AND spiritual crisis within one another.

Because in a world that makes no sense, they both find faith in each other. And if that isn't the most beautiful shit you've ever seen, then I don't know what is.

Maddy’s Top Five Favorite TMNT Episodes from Every Series!

Welcome to my ranking list! My first of many, hopefully! I even spiced things up and made it all fancy with the different font! 😂 god I’m getting old.

A while ago I made a PowerPoint presentation for fun about the history of the TMNT and the franchise. From that point it led to me gaining a spot in a YouTube video series discussing the movies leading up to the premier of Mutant Mayhem, and it’s been one of the best things to happen to me despite the terrible stuff I’ve gone through.

TMNT really saved me at the lowest point of my life in the winter of 2022. It inspired me to go back to Tumblr. I met and befriended incredibly talented people in this fandom. And I’ve found a reason to be happy again because of it. The pain of losing my big sister still aches, and I miss her more each passing day, but I know she’d tell me to get off my ass and do what made me happy.

So for my birthday this weekend, I’ll share this with you guys to celebrate something that brought me joy through all this pain. ❤️‍🩹

Any of the series episodes are candidates for a win! Except for certain ones that I’d rather not watch 🤣

SPOILERS BEWARE! Cuz… well, I dunno who’s finished the shows and I don’t wanna ruin the surprise for others!

Onto the list proper! Starting with the series that started it all: 1987!

The Maltese Hamster ( Season 3 Ep. 4 ) An excellent Donatello solo episode that takes the tone of a detective noir movie, but keeping the fun vibe of the show! Donnie gets to take center stage for once, April gets to use a laser gun, and the shift in tone sets the mood really well! It’s downright harrowing to watch a building collapse on Donnie and see him limping away from the scene in agony, passing out at Irma’s feet, trying to save his brothers despite the odds. Donnie’s my favorite turtle for a reason!

Raphael Meets His Match ( Season 4 Ep. 17 ) The first appearance of Mona Lisa, and I can see why the fans adore this ship so much! The chemistry between Mona and Raph throughout this one episode is really telling of how impactful one character can be to a franchise! Mona is really fun! She’s not just a token ‘girl character’ trope or an archetype, she can handle herself and kick ass alongside the turtles, plus she and Raph have some pretty witty banter together!

Beware The Lotus ( Season 3 Ep. 28 ) The introduction of Lotus Blossom! It’s speculated that the inspiration for Karai came from Lotus! Lotus and Leo had great chemistry together, it's a shame we only got two episodes to spend with her. She really is an interesting character with loads of story potential about finding your place in the world, discovering who you are, changing your destiny to make it what you want. This is me basically saying I am now part of the Lotus Blossom Fan Club.

Cowabunga, Shredhead! ( Season 3 Ep. 18 ) This is one of the fan favorite episodes, and after I watched it for the first time I could not stop laughing. James Avery does his best Mikey impression while playing the over the top Shredder, and everyone just accepts it??? It’s downright genius! The meme material from this one is plentiful!

Michelangelo Meets Mondo Gecko ( Season 5 Ep. 4 ) The introduction of Mondo himself, and he’s got a really cool design! On first viewing I was pleasantly surprised by his unique color scheme and his character! He’s a bad guy that gets a redemption arc by the end of the episode! I was rooting for him the whole time! It was this debut that made me adore Mondo, and he’s since become my favorite mutant character of the franchise!

Honorable Mentions are Donatello’s Duplicate and Turtlemaniac!

Next up is a controversial one, but I gotta be honest… ‘03 isn’t my favorite series for a lot of reasons, but I will admit! When this series had fantastic episodes, they were AMAZING. So I gotta give credit when due and give kudos to these wins!

The Shredder Strikes Back Parts One and Two ( Season 1 Episodes 17-18 ) Nothing really tops how good this show was in the first season, and these episodes take the comic storyline of Leo’s beatdown and bring it to life masterfully. For Leo’s segments of part one it’s spent mostly with no dialogue— the animation and music carrying how serious the scene is as Leo has to fight for his life against the Foot and how desperate he becomes as he grows weaker and weaker. The second episode is non-stop action as the rest of the turtles, Splinter, April and Casey have to fend off the Foot and Shredder as they fight for their lives in the antique shop. This is one of Michael Sinterniklass’s BEST performances as Leo in these episodes. The stakes are higher than ever before, the animation is gorgeous, and everyone gives it their all for this epic mid-season finale.

Same As It Never Was ( Season 3 Ep. 21 ) This is the episode I would tell people to watch if they think TMNT is just kiddie trash.

Bad Blood ( Season 6 Ep. 12 ) Probably the Fast Forward concept I wish got expanded on instead of giving it two standalone stories and dropping it entirely. It’s a cool idea that I wish got touched upon more often because, yeah, what would evil clones of the turtles look like? What kind of abilities could they have? There’s infinite possibilities! I could live without the new catchphrase ‘It's Ninja Time’ though. While Fast Forward is flawed, this episode was the one I thoroughly liked!

Insane in the Membrane ( Season 4 Ep. 19 ) The infamously banned episode, and all I have to say about it is two words. Holy. Shit.

The Real World Part One ( Season 3 Ep. 22 ) Any team-up with Usagi Yojimbo is a good one, and this was such a delight! It’s loosely based on one of the Usagi stories from the comics, and I loved how badass they made both Usagi and Tomoe! Leo and Usagi have great chemistry as always, and you can tell they have a strong bond with one another as warriors! Or boyfriends depending on how you interpret their relationship but honestly I totally see where everyone is coming from, THESE TWO ARE ADORABLE DORKS.

Next up is my all-time favorite incarnation of the franchise, 2012!! I have A LOT to say about so many of the episodes but alas, I could only choose five to discuss. One day… one day I shall make a thesis about it 🤣 for now however, here’s my top five faves from this series!

The Yojimbo Trilogy ( Season 5 Episodes 7-9 ) Oh. My. God. YES. The love letter to Stan Sakai’s comics, the beautiful homage to vintage Japanese cinema with the camera framework and action, and OH MY LORD, THE COLORS AND SHADING DURING USAGI’S FIGHT WITH JAY IN THE FINALE???? THAT’S CINEMA! Excellent voice acting by Yuki Matsuzaki, which was his first English speaking role and personally chosen by Sakai himself to play the ronin rabbit! My only complaint is that I wish we’d gotten more of the Yojimbo characters in here, like Tomoe or Gen! Otherwise I can watch all three of these episodes on repeat and always get excited!

Lone Rat and Cubs ( Season 5 Ep. 10 ) The final appearance of Splinter, the episode Kevin Eastman wrote, and a beautiful send-off to this character. It’s a flashback, yes, but this is the episode we get to see Yoshi adapting to his mutation as a rat, raising his boys, trying to be a good father and struggling to survive from the Krang. It’s a part of his life we rarely ever get to see, and this episode shows us why he was a great father. Basically it's a try not to cry challenge. For me, THIS episode is the series finale because it’s just a perfect conclusion to Splinter and his story.

Requiem/Owari ( Season 4 Episodes 25-26 ) The finale to the overall series, the finale to this overarching story, and it’s just as heartbreaking and suspenseful as you’d expect. The writers don't hold back their punches, and it shows that the gloves have finally come off. The characters we’ve come to love and care for are at their breaking point, the Shredder is the most threatening he’s ever been, and the team decides it’s time to put the monster down for good. Whoever thinks this show was just ‘kiddie trash’ needs to be sat down and shown this two-parter, because GODDAMN. Ciro Nieli treated this with so much care and respect. I cannot help but adore the team who put this together because the stakes have been raised to an all-time high, and the final showdown between Shredder and the turtles here is hair-raising, all reaching its climax when Leonardo finishes Oroku Saki by beheading him. It’s powerful, it’s devastating, and it’s a damn excellent showcase of why this series was the best iteration of the franchise to date.

The Fourfold Trap ( Season 3 Ep. 23 ) Yet another homage to a horror movie, only this time it’s a lot more intense. Based on Saw, this episode makes you sit on the edge of your seat as you can only hope that the turtles will escape the traps Karai’s put them in. It’s all nerve wracking to watch on a first viewing experience, POOR DONNIE OH MY GOD, CAN WE STOP PUTTING THIS BOY IN ELECTROCUTION DEVICES???? He still manages to create a plan to save his brothers even while he’s being electrocuted! Also, SPLINTER IS BEST RAT DAD. This episode will teach you the meaning of ‘angsty dread’ and ‘overwhelming anxiety.’

Trans-Dimensional Turtles ( Season 4 Ep. 10 ) THE TURTLES FOREVER WE DESERVED BUT WE DIDN'T GET UNTIL CIRO NIELI HOOKED US UP WITH THE BEST CROSSOVER WE’VE EVER BEEN BLESSED WITH! The OG turtles are all so much fun to see again both in and out of 2D, Gilbert Godfried is always a delight, the 2012 turtles in traditional 2D animation is awesome, and ALL THE OG VOICE ACTORS ARE HERE AND CLEARLY HAVING THE TIMES OF THEIR LIVES. THE ROB PAULSEN JOKE IS LITERALLY A BLESSING XD I only wish it had been longer!

Honorable Mentions are Slash and Destroy, Pizza-Face, Within the Woods and Mutant Gangland!

And rounding it off is the last— but certainly not least— series, Rise!! I adore this one!! It’s right behind 2012 as my favorite TMNT series just for the stellar animation!! It’s such a shame that this one had to end so unfairly, but today I’m giving it the love it deserves!! Please note that I have yet to complete season two of ROTTMNT cuz my life has been crazy hectic and I haven’t had the time, but once I do, I’ll go back and update this section if I find more episodes I liked!

Raph’s Ride Along ( Season 2 Ep. 8A ) Ummmmmm the 2012 VA’s playing parody versions of their turtles as yokai criminals??? HELL YEAH. If only they got Astin to play a character though! Then we would’ve had a reverse Turtles Forever reunion! I came out of this episode really loving the Mud Dogz as characters and wanting more, especially Dastardly Danny cuz Rob Paulsen is always a win! Too bad this show got canned before we could really get to know these guys. BUT HEY! That’s what the fandom is for! 🤣

Insane in the Mama Train ( Season 1 Episode 25 ) When I watched this series blind, this episode blew my mind. Seeing something so well done had me screaming in joy with how expertly this episode was crafted. The stellar action choreography, the great comedic elements splashed in to lighten the tense mood, the ANIMATION OH MY LORD. Disney, take notes. And that ending leaves a pit in my stomach every time, like OOOOF, those expressions! That sudden tonal swap!

Mystic Library ( Season 1, Ep. 20A ) Probably my favorite comedy episode! The timing for the jokes in this one specifically is so well done, and every single one had me in tears. I’ve been trying to commit Donnie’s library rap to memory but alas, I’ve been failing.

The Clothes Don’t Make The Turtle ( Season 2 Episode 10B ) THIS. MORE OF THIS PRETTY PLEASE. It's just SO MUCH FUN. I really don’t have anything else to say other than this one is a great treat, also, the reanimated fan cut of this is spectacular!!

Snow Day ( Season 1 Ep. 23B ) This, for me, is the Christmas special of the series even though it’s in no way related to the holiday or has anything to do with it BUT I DON’T CARE LET ME DREAM. I love this one for the adorable interactions and the bonding! Seeing the characters goofing off and having fun, enjoying the weather and spending time together outside of the angst? I CRAVE FLUFF LIKE THIS.

And Tada! There it is! I hope you liked this!! It was tons of fun to compile all my favorite episodes into one project and share my thoughts! This fandom has been nothing but fantastic and I’m proud to be in it!

1. Virtues of Villainess.

One of the cutest couple ever *-* Art, story, MC are all cute, funny and enjoyable. I suffered from second male lead syndrome in this manhwa and I was dumbfounded about how stupid the "real" villainess was but again it was a simple and lovely story.

2. As You Wish, My Prince!

I loved ittt and I'm kinda sad it isn't that popular among isekai fans. it's so realistic! Like you feel how it truely feels like when you enter the novel you wrote and all of your choices comes back to you but you have to survive somehow. Anyway story is more focused on MC and ML trying to fight against their own destiny and accidently falling in love. Some dramatic accidents were too much but stil good read.

3. Light And Shadow

MC = Queen. That's all I'm gonna explain about this manhwa. Just alittle sidenote, after first chapters you're gonna think ML is a tr*sh but he is just a stupid war-maniac so don't worry.

4. Why Are You Doing This Duke?!

Side stories were making me more flustered than main story lol. MC is shy, stupid and cute at the same time and ML is tsun trying to fight with some magic curse which makes him so cheesy. That's the summary :)

5. Doctor Elise

MC is one of the most hardworking MCs out there. She was doctor in prev life and in her second chance she does everything she can so her family can survive and live well. All men fell in love with her bc she invents the whole medical system lol but ML is the hottest. (Maybe her older bros are the hottest.)

6. Villainess In Love

Need a reason to read?! ISHID. This man is the finest ML you can find in this whole world. He is cute, hot, wild and innocent at the same time. MC is mature enough to handle him so don't worry lol. Still waiting for sidestories.

7. Villain's Savior

In first chapters MC cries like 24/7 and it gets annoying like "girl stop crying for 1 sec" but later in story, the reason behind it was revealed so ig it's okay now. Anyway art is 💯 and ML is obsessed with MC and he isn't innocent at all. So prepare yourself for wild ride lol.

8. Beware Of the Villainess

I love how Melissa treats MLs in the story. She slaps them hard with FACTS. She is strong, funny, reasonable and QUEEN. Anyway find someone who looks at you like how Nine looks at her.

9. Miss Not-so Sidekick

If you have been following me and my posts, you def know my fav manhwa as I mention it ALOT lol. One of the funniest, most enjoyable manhwas out there is this one. Author never fails to make you laugh and artist does know how to deaw memes. MC makes everything funny and ML becomes fan of this ability ^^

10. The Reason Why Raeliana Ended Up

ML is obsessed and MC tries to run away all the time to test how obsessed he truely is. That's my summary.

The S.S Bee has Sailed

The bees are free and the show is essentially now part over, 2 of the title characters are completed in "friendship" BY is indeed; or at least blake is, bi. All that's left is ruby; the story of motherhood and doing the right thing even when the odds are against you, and Weiss who's learnt her lesson so many times over it's hard to count. But we're done now, the bees have kissed the ship is a relationship and the GF jokes can start, its phase 2 of the SS bumblebee and I really hope it gets mentioned in the show (the ex-ship name). Kinda wonder if Monty had planned this (seems like he did not gonna lie) but there was time for black sun to have it, but ultimately CRWBY kicked in their teeth. Here's my message to Blacksun or anyone who’s not happy about BB. This is RWBY, a show that while at its core is a fight anime about 4 girls, in a wacky world of monsters and God’s, finding themselves and their friends in the midst of it all, it always had a second message… Be yourself. Wiess tries to become her own person rather than the rich heiress. Ruby tries to be a huntress and later a leader and later still whatever this is. Blake and faunus are an analog for minorities and fitting in. Yang is the “just being physically strong doesn't mean you're good mentally”. This show is about change, finding your place and I don't think that having a Gay ship means any less. In fact it seems fitting. And regardless of all the other gay media you may point to and tell me that RWBY shouldn't have to conform to it, i'd like to point out this show is a decade old (ish)! This ship was there from day 1, and now it's over, its cannon and that's it.

For my fellow Bee’s, it's done, we can have our few weeks (heck the whole rest of the volume) but we have won. The signs were always there, it is now our job to become the defenders, we must gather our memes, our evidence, our mighty clips; and we must, it is our destiny to use them to back up CRWBY, to defend, not our opinions in hate-filled fury, but the Show we love with dignity and respect, we need to tone it down once our victory lap is done and keep a level head as we show the world all the hints and love-filled moments that led up to, what i hope is one of many Bee Kisses.

Why don’t Luz and Lilith try to FIGHT Philip Wittebane?

Why not try to break or return the Collector moon discus, so that this blatant murderer doesn’t walk away from this with exactly what he WANTS?  There’s so many options in that moment to undo at least SOME the damage.  Or they could hold it ransom, and exchange information on the portal.  There’s nothing stopping them from doing anything. Lilith just gets in one satisfying punch, a meme-bait line…  And then for some reason they just leave.  Nothing is done in response.  As if the punch resolved things.

The argument they’re trying to preserve the timeline just doesn’t add up.   They’ve already failed at non-interference when they stopped him from getting beaten up and his journal torched.  Luz hasn’t even been able to listen to the entire journal; and thanks to the haphazard nature of the Echo Mouse, is it even all ordered like how it was written?  So some of the contents of the journal, and the context, is like a temporal Schrodinger's Cat.  No one has observed it (unless you count the magic stomach acid of the Echo Mouse), so it essentially doesn't exist.  (More spoilers below break).

Okay sure, Belos would know what's in that journal, he WROTE the thing.  But A) Luz can't exactly visit him to talk, B) his word is dirt, and C) Luz doesn't even know that Philip has lived on and so wouldn't think to ask.  As far as she should know, she's the most knowledgeable living person in the entire universe about Philip Wittebane.

I don't know if any physics in Owl House are written with a Copenhagan interpretation in mind, but it's not like Luz knows that either.  Nor would she much care; she's kind of shotgunning this whole time travel venture, in a very Luz way.

All that wouldn't count for bits of the journal filled with blatant lies anyhow.  Philip was caught red-handed fibbing in the journal about the arranged deaths of Lilith and Luz.  Blue Fang was confirmed as a "sacrifice."  Judging from the complete lack of shame or shock when confronted for any of this, Philip has done this over and over again.   So at the very least, any part of his journal talking about the the 'tragic loss' of his companions is a load of total *garbage*.   Therefore, if Luz and Lilith decided to haul Philip back to Ye Olde Bonesborough to stand trial, she has plenty of logical leeway to set back his plans.  Luz isn't aware of any proof that Philip finished the portal and made it home anyway.  Or that the portal was completed by HIS hands.  It's just a strong chance, which Luz is desperately chasing down so she can reunite with her mami.  We haven't seen the actual final chapter of the journal, and according to the Gravesfield legend Luz heard, the Wittebanes were never seen again.

But we don't have to make a convoluted argument about when counts as temporal leeway in the timeline.  It's fictional magic, I know people don't really care much about it.  Even I feel silly after just reading back what I just wrote.  What's really important... is that I can’t see Luz as someone who would set murderers loose, even if it would jeopardize her ability to return to Earth.  Or violate any cosmic ‘rule.’ That was the entire basis for her tragic sacrificial gambit at the end of Season 1.  She also makes it very clear what she thinks of "destiny" in this very episode.  Brushing off the tropes of Destiny was at the core of Owl House, which it made it beautifully clear at the series outset.

I really, really hesitate to use the term “plot hole.”  Partly because it’s been overused, and mainly because it’s association with bad faith or dumb critiques/rants.  A lot of times that term “plot hole” is applied leaps in logic made for the sake of entertaining the audience.   Like an extensive action sequence, with 10 minutes of martial arts instead of someone just ending it with a bullet (most of my fave franchises rely on this).  Maybe a ton of unrelated events lining up to make an intricate plan come together.  Or just a stroke of luck so a protagonist can make it out of a situation without death or dismemberment.

But the ending didn’t offer any of that.  When we leave the skull temple, we aren’t given a thought-out escape from Philip (even though he has impressive power), no conniving deception, and not even a fun chase sequence.   Lilith and Luz are just artificially lackadaisical, suddenly dumbed-down.  It certainly wasn’t because they were feeling forgiving of the jerk.  Lilith didn’t like the guy from the start, plus she is totally able to whoop his ass.

The worst explanation would be implying the characters really do give into the BS defeatist mindset of “it’s destiny, can’t be helped.”  Credit where it’s due, the show COULD be setting this up for Belos to work off of.  That he brings it off to show off to Luz or Lilith that ‘destiny’ and God are actually on his side.  It actually could be an F’ed up way of trying to convince Lilith to rejoin him.  “Do you see now, Lilith?  I HAD to break our deal and make you betray me, so you could enact your adventure in the Dreadwardian Era.  To act otherwise would unleash a temporal rupture of paradoxical chaos.”  You know how this bullshit would go.  I HAD to hurt you.  GoD hAs A pLaN 4 eVeRyOnE. Cults are happy to try and rope back the people who leave, even after treating them like feces for leaving in the first place.

If the time and/or animation budget was too tight, just have Lulu or Luz go: “Crud, we need to head back to the portal now before high tide!”  Even though that last option might have costs us an excellent baluster joke payoff.  The easy solution for preserving the continuity, and the run time, would be for Lilith to at least smash the artifact into pieces out of spite. (New idea: have her punch THROUGH the plate, INTO Philip’s face!) Then show Philip reassembling it in that awesome cave sequence.

Final Space Characters Disclaimer

Pretty much this post is to just discuss power scaling other things: I kind of expect characters on the level of marvel or dc to be able to keep up with these characters and vice versa for any forms of power scaling. As even Ash I kind of try not to make too crazy when fighting with restraint for her post-verse even if she's higher up on the totem pole. But I genuinely do not care and we can talk it out if there are innate disagreements, things to talk about to say have another character keep up with any of my own.

I'm willing to use Clarence, Fox, and Ash all in one rp together but not all at once other than sometimes for one-liners, etc. Otherwise I'm fine with alternating dual-muses with the three of them with two or one talking, then bringing in other characters or things like Sheryl and Ash in a same rp for example for their post verses.

I do make pop-culture and meme references or my own jokes as the show does.

I do follow canon pretty extensively, but at certain points it's pretty much my own run of the characters, and I don't plan on changing it even if things change in canon for s4 if we ever get one. For who's left alive anyway. I will say I characterize them much more heavily and do things such as making them a bit more fun, out-spoken or otherwise for certain things. Such as Ash I do have talk a bit more, Fox too, Clarence is relatively the same but more fleshed out. Sheryl can get talking but is more of a one-liner or dry as a desert for humor.

I think the only exception to this Tribore who is literally a gag character that I have basically be a 'Mary-Sue' albeit I dislike the term. It's mostly just for fun though and I won't bring him in randomly unless you like his bios or request him. He's the only character that won't 'stay' in an RP for long, however.

I will be borrowing aspects from the graphic novel when it releases at my own discretion, but my Ash and Sheryl were designed in such a way in case this occurred. I will simply be placing Ash's timeline, events where I think they'd best be for her ending, as I very much went out of my way to personally ensure it wouldn't get in the way of canon. Her role for how I had it while major was purposefully distant or could be rewritten distant from the others who pretty much worked together without her until the very end to break her out of it to do one task for them. Then I could focus on her after the ending where Gary kills Invictus. And I will mention that my Ash's conclusion as a character has already been written, I'm just waiting this summer to release it as an event that can be revisited by newer rpers as time goes on.

I have no idea what's intended for Ash? But if Olan decides to pursue what was mentioned in a question toward him? It seems that Ash's redemption would've centered around another character, which I will not be using unless a certain rper of the character appears, possibly? As I do presume he will probably get things going in a much better way alone, but it almost seems like Ash might be written out of the series considering that angle and not mentioning her when she was a major character in the series along with the others, and she wasn't in the Final Space thumbnail bookart cover? So it feels like his headspace isn't entirely thinking of her when it comes to an ending. To which I semi-did myself, yes, but I also think that it's okay and kind of works with what I have in mind of her doing her own destiny thing, but keeping her family with her, who mostly did what they had to without her- when saving her from her own mental prison. So yeah, kinda lines up oddly enough. I won't jump the gun but I was trying to read him pretty hard on what was mentioned and that did stand out to me, but he didn't mention Sheryl either so y'know, but she was also on the thumbnail art.

I've considered him as a character but Bolo is too hard to balance as he'd be overpowered I think for any form of adventure, being mostly plot and dialogue only. I made a drabble for him though that you can read here. It's to show him actually doing something offscreen before he went insane with a bit of small backstory.

Also for both Orion and any other characters I write, music is a big inspiration. When I'm into a character or considering writing them, often one of the first things I do is make a playlist for them. I really love capturing the stories of characters through songs. Maybe I'll consider sharing some sometime. Several need modifications first though....

@atlas-ordained: Atlas carrying the weight of the world + ordained "ordered or decreed (especially by god or fate)". So he is decreed by his destiny/Primus to carry the world.

@rivenedwaltz: 'Rivened' means split or torn into pieces, which is fitting for Shattered Glass, and 'waltz' is because SG Orion/OP loves classic aesthetics (usually with a morbid twist)

@tenaciousflame: 'Tenacious' references Ryuuken's inner strength - he may seem timid, but when it comes to protecting those he cares for, he never gives up. 'Flame' references his themes of heat and fire, as well as his warm personality.

@reforged-lionheart: Reforged because she is put into a new frame after her old one is damaged/destroyed. Lionheart because... she stronk and brave.

@yourlocalmenace: This is mostly a non-serious blog, so a meme-ish url seemed appropriate. And Wheeljack absolutely is a menace.

@heroesoftheirownstories: Writing advice that I always try to keep in mind when portraying a variety of characters - everyone has their own perspective and usually will see their current actions/views as justified, at least on some level.

Introductions, inspirations, and goals

Hello y’all,

Currently I’ve been on tumblr for more than a decade, and on the internet for longer. Now, I’ve truly only been an active participant within my local community’s social media, never really branching out with strangers until fairly recently, within the past five years. And only truly once with Tumblr, most of my interactions have been on PlayStation, I’ve seen some shit and have also acted poorly as well, that’s life for ya.

My name is Pun, nickname not my government name. I am in my late 20’s, living in California. I love to play video games, make artsy things, and find new adventures. I play mainly Destiny and Pokémon, with the occasional Fortnite or open world game (my library is limited tho lol.). I am a huge sucker for Animation, comics, painting, and plushie making. I will be documenting my process here btw. And with my stable income combined with my inability to save my money, I’m traveling more! I’m making it my goal to get out more often, even if it is by myself.

More recently I’ve been surrounded by vloggers, such as absolblogspokemon, gold Shaw farm, and various others especially my dad. He’s gone completely obsessed with running his vlog projects. Numbers, algorithms, and monetizations frequent his vernacular as of recent. At least he’s not becoming a conspiracy loon.

And well, I’ve been reflecting a whole lot more and wanting to share the cool things that I do and see, not necessarily to brag, but to help with myself to reflect and remember. I really like absol’s method of documenting his experiences as he shiny hunts Pokémon or completes challenges.

And while I dabble in shiny hunting, I truly don’t have the patience to do one singular task for long. And I’m leaning into it. I’ve struggled to get up do things, staying stagnated in my woes about how I don’t do much anymore, and I’M TIRED OF THIS. So if I jump from one thing to the next so be it.

It’s helped me make and do way moreee, more so if I were to try to muster up the focus to do one big task. If I want to run a blog then disappear for months on end, hell yeah. Jump between comic making to full blown writing, or sewing until my fingers hurt. The shame of not committing is no longer holding me hostage. Master of one vs master of all or half assing is better than no assing, you know?

So if you’ve read this far, great! If you want a TL;DR here.

My goal is to document the activities, the art, and the happenings of my life. I might get a little personal, or be vague. But these are my thoughts and this is where they’ll go. I was inspired by others to do this and I hope that you will enjoy.

Behind the scenes with The Calling

So I speedran through The Calling [Haji’s old Randomized Platinum fic] and lemme just say how I really love how the gym battle system worked, the dancing and literal physical combat between the Pokémon and the literal trainers themselves

Pepe’s adorable, but that scene in Floaroma when he stops the grunts from the stealing the man’s honey with his creepily calm assertiveness was pretty badass to me, ngl, considering his reluctance to confront and fight

Even though it is old, the mystery surrounding certain locations is pretty good (Old Chateau, the Ravaged Path, that weird pool thing in the Oreburgh Mines) it’s cool to see someone’s interpretation of events different from my own

Also Pepe and Pearl’s relationship was very fun to read! The mystery of Napoleon’s disappearance really piqued my interest, and I was not really sure if he was his older brother in this interpretation (idk if they got separated from birth or something, or just simply not brothers at all) but it’s nice to see that Pearl still cares for him

Another thing that interested me was Pepe’s religious upbringing, with the fossils and all and being raised in some church, before moving to Twinleaf Town- I think it really gave his character good background and depth, which also ties into his peacemaking pacifist-like mindset

But anyways that’s all I have to say about Haji’s The Calling series, hope you don’t mind my rambling review @Haji

I really enjoy the battle system. I've been trying to study different dance styles to make each one unique in how it functions.

I would normally be all like "shhh spoilers" but considering the story hasn't had an update in like five years, it seems silly to ask you to wait. It's a separated at birth situation. Why though is because I play a lot with destiny in the TPP universe especially having a single timeline in a seemingly cyclonic world

Yeeeaaah.... [Pepe’s religious background] was one of the factors in my nervousness. At the time I preceded every Author Note basically going "Look, my lore is weird. Don't eat me" or something because I knew even if that's how it played in my head, I was scared of "going against the grain" with what everyone else was doing. Which mostly was Pepe the Frog memes and artistic snob portrayal

Personally, I felt that the artistic snob sort of personality didn’t mesh well with his shyness (in my opinion, it’s just a matter of taste), but I imagine that if he did paint, it would be out of a sort of therapy for his trauma under the voices and the crazy things he experienced in his life… or he just wanted to paint a cute Skitty because he has a weakness for cute things :Begwan:

I can see that. In fact, after Ultra events, I like to imagine he does a lot of art for that reason. Still trying to remember things and drawing out memories to make sense of it. His friends can remind him of things they recognize or talk to him about some of the more disturbing images

Napoleon is mentioned by Pearl in the story, so I’m assuming they must have met when they were very young- where did Napoleon end up? And did Pepe learn that Napoleon was his older brother in the end, maybe after-game?

Napoleon went to stay with Aunt Grace and Richard while all this was going on. Honestly never knew he had a brother until after Ultra events. Which finding out after that just made him worse about the whole... Trying to murder Pepe multiple times while not himself thing. Pepe woke up at the villa after they got back home only to learn it's been months he's been in a coma (time shenanigans. He made sure Leo was able to wake up in the "canon" timeline in order to stop Cyrus but it seems in a weird way, Pepe took his place. Missed everything during the Bill Overlord events and was too injured to do the Unova stuff with Cly, but Leo knew he was okay enough to go with the other S1 hosts)

Pepe on the other hand found out about Napoleon during his journey, so he knew  about it WAY ahead of Leo but they still didn't meet for.... Some time??? Again, Pepe becoming a time traveler at the end of his run makes his lore in my timeline hilariously screwy

Sort of. With Forrest's [Gardenia] backstory I was going to get more into the pre-RPlat / pre-Red war stuff that was going on when he was a kid. Gravund [Roark] and the boys would have been too little to remember but Forrest was a little younger than Pepe is now so he's got some scars from it. Basically the family got split up when fleeing the violence so Johanna has Leo with her and thought her husband and other son didn't make it. Pepe was taken to Hearthome like many other war orphans but while it wasn't separated at birth they were both around maybe one or two years old at most

And before you ask about their father, I had an idea and then I wasn't sure but I've been on the fence about things so let's just leave him as a giant question mark

Yeah... But things are peaceful for next several decades (next Sinnoh run wasn't until Gauntlet), so they've got time. Help out with the others when duty calls, but even many of the other hosts know they can go to Napoleon's palace to get away from things for a while. Cly's mansion is often a nice hang out but it also happens to be the gang's base of operations in secret so there's always some level of alert since Unova isn't as stable as Sinnoh is. (And besides, for Aaaaaall the trauma of Kanto, Johto, and Hoenn seeming to be in a consistent state of peril, Sinnoh is lovingly close by for Leo and Pepe to give a sense of normalcy for the newbies)

Even though I stopped writing it, this is the story that has never left my mind. I've actually continued working on it, but never posted and one of my goals is to continue at some point if I ever get my projects in order

Sometimes I'll just be watching a show or something and get reminders of the characters and how much I miss them

this is your chance: wax poetic about an Empires or DSMP character of your choice to a fan who is new to both. Explain why I should love them. I need guidance in this new and meme-populated land.

okok this is a lot of pressure haha. Spoilers for EmpiresSMP and DreamSMP below, obviously. I wrote a lot so prepare yourself, anon

I watch a lot of empires POVs but the ones I most anticipate every week are Scott and Sausage.

c!Scott (I'll call him Smajor for the sake of simplicity) starts off the series chilling, not really getting involved with the rest of the server, and staying aggressively neutral. After all, he's an elf. He has lived far longer than most of the other rulers already, and will most likely outlive them for many years. So, the best thing is to stick to his mountains and not get invested in the dealings of mortal affairs, maybe sometimes causing problems on purpose and dipping because what's life without a little spice right.

But then, this demon comes to the server, Xornoth. He's going around causing havoc and wants to send the world into an eternal winter, but he doesn't bother the kingdom of Rivendell much so Smajor stays tentatively cautious but ultimately unbothered. But then, the puzzle pieces start falling together. The first thing that the audience noticed was was Xornoth sounded like Smajor, but we mostly thought that this was just due to cc!Scott voicing both of them and there was nothing more to it. However, then, the people the demon starts possessing start chanting in elvish. The demon hates mortals, and the elves are conveniently one of the two confirmed not fully mortal races in Empires.

This culminates when Smajor stumbles across a cave that contains the backstory of the patron god of Rivendell, Aeor. Basically, there's two opposing forces, Aeor and Exor, and both have a champion. In a previous life, those champions were two brothers, where Aeor eventually prevailed and banished Exor. In this life though, the champions are - you guessed it - Smajor, and the demon Xornoth.

So now Smajor is like. Well fuck. It's my literal god-given destiny to be responsible for defeating this demon who is technically my brother, and if I fail the server gets plunged into an eternal winter. And I have no fucking clue what is happening because I've just been here on this mountain actively trying to stay out of the issues outside my kingdom. We watch him panic and teeter on the verge of spiraling for an entire episode, and when the followers of Xornoth go to the End to kill the dragon, releasing Xornoth's full powers, he fails to stop him. Smajor is a character who was used to being the smart one, the prepared one, the one who has the least deaths on the server. But he's also a character who runs away from his problems and ignores them. Before and during the dragon fight, we hear the desperation in his voice, as he's thrown into a situation he is wholly unprepared for, and it's bigger than him going to the Cod Empire to kill their king, or assisting in other people's plans to kill the codfather. He can't run from this. cc!Scott plays this scene so well as well, as I've said before, one of the best parts of Scott's acting is how he's never super dramatic, but he's so effective in the little things like inflection to make you feel, viscerally, the panic and dread.

So after the dragon fight, Smajor realizes, I can't do this on my own. I've tried and failed. So he gets allies. We watch him, someone who has so strongly been an isolationist, learn the benefits of allies and watch him learn to trust others and watch him learn how to get that trust in return.

My favorite thing about Smajor's characterization is that he's an incompetent protagonist, but not in the way of the "plucky young adventurer". He's capable skill-wise, and fairly jaded and very pessimistic. However, his issue is that up until recently, he did not care about the rest of the server at all, and by the time he learned to, it was way too late.

Also, in 3rd Life, cc!Scott and cc!Jimmy were canonically married and they reference it sometimes in Empires. Like, Scott goes over to the Cod Empire every so often both in and out of character to kill and/or flirt with Jimmy, the ruler of the Cod Empire, which may develop as a secondary plot into the future who knows. So ty Scott for giving the gays what they want o7

Now onto Sausage: his is a story of Icarus, his hubris and ambition being his downfall. He's one of the two followers of Xornoth, who promised him endless power in exchange for his servitude. He started the series being eccentric, but not outright unhinged, but slowly gets more and more extreme as the series progresses, as he gets brought more and more to Xornoth's side.

One of the best parts of Sausage's character, in my opinion, is how his gradual corruption affects the people around him. Initially, he got into a conflict with the Cod Empire and was allied with two other people in the Witherrose alliance. They were allies, but also close friends. The fandom liked to joke that the three had sibling energy, and I'm pretty sure the ccs played to that even more lol.

It was painful to watch the other two members, Gem and fWhip, watch Sausage get corrupted right in front of them, and see them desperately clinging on to this old idea of Sausage in their head because if they faced the truth, it would mean that their friend was gone. Eventually, they do finally cut him out of the alliance, leading him to fully commit to the side of the demon. Sausage felt very clearly betrayed by this, and declared the remaining two Witherrose alliance members to be enemies.

He gets more and more possessed, and we even see the other Empires, his enemies even, slowly realize that something is very wrong with the ruler of Mythland. He starts doing more and more evil things, like killing people more, making sacrifices to the demon, and eventually helping to kill the dragon to free Xornoth. So things are good for Sausage, for a bit. He won, and is more powerful than ever. Then he finds out: he's going to die. Xornoth's possession is slowly killing his soul, and eventually, his body going to be fully taken over and he himself is going to be trapped in the spirit realm. So how do you react to this? Over the next few episodes, we watch Sausage struggle between "the demon is literally killing me" and "the demon has given me so much, and I love it", all while Xornoth takes over more and more of him. We hear him exclaim that "don't worry!! I'm still about 15% there!" while trying to downplay every time Xornoth completely takes over his body. We watch him willingly oppose anyone who is trying to end the thing that is killing him.

My favorite thing about Sausage is that he is undoubtedly evil and proud of it, but he's also undoubtedly human. If you like to watch evil characters go absolutely feral, he's the guy for you. He makes the deal with Xornoth in the beginning, knowing and fully embracing the evilness of the demon, but at the same time he knows what he's doing is detrimental to both himself and everyone around him, but he's gotten in way too deep at this point, and to be fair the demon has held up its end fo the bargain, right?

Also, I would be damned if I don't talk about cc!Sausage's editing. Every one of his videos is like a movie. The way he does camera angles and uses music is so skillful- every lore scene feels like something out of a high fantasy action saga (think: LotR). Every big lore event I always wait in anticipation for Sausage's ep because his editing truly takes lore to another level.

I'm just generally very excited to see where this series goes. Empires is such a good mix of talented builders and good lore. Part of the reason why the series is so immersive for me, beyond any other lore smp, is that they have the settings to back it up. There is a certain charm to the DreamSMP's objectively terrible builds (with a few exceptions) but in Empires, the settings help sell the plot so much.

Another part of why I love EmpiresSMP is how much the ccs are involved with the fan community. I'm sure you've seen the memes about Scott being on tumblr, and Sausage regularly goes through the EmpiresSMP fanart tag on Twitter and likes art, even ones not related to Mythland. Most of the ccs, in fact, have brought up tumblr content on stream at some point or another. Like, several ccs have said that they read tumblr lore theories and hcs and stuff and sometimes take inspiration from them. Fun fact: Rivendell's church was inspired by my pinned drawing; confirmed by Scott Smajor himself. It's just such a good cycle of ccs and fans being excited about each other.

As for DreamSMP, I'm gonna be honest here, the only person I really am invested in in Technoblade. I started watching when he joined the server, and he's the only person whose lore I keep up to date with.

Techno's fun to watch because he's like the Deadpool of DreamSMP. Virtually unkillable, very skilled and scary, but consistently cracks jokes and breaks the 4th wall during plot. His POV is just fun. Like, he does wild plans and gives speeches and some of the stuff that happens to him should be called deus ex machine if it wasn't for the fact that Technoblade is the one who's doing it, and all the stuff is grounded in the fact that cc!Techno is just that good at the game.

However, the fact that he rarely takes anything seriously makes the few times Techno is 100% serious so much more impactful. His whole character has a basis in being perceived as inhuman and being treated as such, and therefore in return trying to hide his humanity. So, when he shows that humanity, whether that's fear, anger, or genuine love for his friends, it really makes you go "oh shit."

Techno's often said not to have character development, but I'd argue that while he remains steadfast in his moral code, he develops leaps and bounds as a person. Like, at the beginning, he's brought onto the server to help Wilbur and Tommy overthrow a government; them knowing he's 1) an anarchist and 2) very very powerful. His character was more of a plot device at that point and was treated as such in the canon. Wilbur and Tommy straight-up lie to him about their plans to establish another government after they overthrow the current one, while he was led on to believe that they were abolishing all governments in the area. But he isn't a plot device. He's a person, as much as he only shows the terrifying, blood god side of himself.

After the establishment of New Lmanburg (the new government its a long story), his friend Phil joins. And for the first time, we see him be fully human with someone and we see someone treat him like a human. Like, we saw glimpses before, with Wilbur and Tommy in Pogtopia, but Phil is the first person we noticeably see he trusts 100%. Then Doomsday happens, and Techno essentially retires to the tundra. During this time, we see Techno learn to be more human, first with Ranboo, then Niki when he establishes the Syndicate. In fact, the two of them, along with Phil, canonically throw him a birthday party, which is a far cry from his treatment in Pogtopia.

Techno's development is one of a god learning to be human, and I just think he <3

JP vs. Localization in Fire Emblem Fates: Revelation

Again, here’s a link to my sources post.

Fortunately, this route follows suit in terms of good localization quality after Conquest. It’s the shortest out of all the posts, since I don’t really have a lot to talk about. Mostly subtle line changes, references and a few key points of information that were cut out. I also went through Hidden Truths and Heirs of Fate to see if I could add stuff from those on here, but there were no big problems that I found.

Once again, the main part of this post will all be put under the cut. If a chapter isn’t covered, it means I didn’t think there were any differences worth talking about.

I’ll use localized names for characters and locations, unless I feel the need to do otherwise.

I’ll be using she/her when referring to Corrin in this post. (I flipped a coin to decide the gender lol)

Also, note that after Chapter 14, the translation of this route on Fateswartable ends, so I mostly relied on the English patch done by Serenes at that point forward. (I also used PegasusKnight.com as a reference to fall back on if I needed it)

Chapter 7

-A minor gripe I have with localization. The JP version compares Touma (Valla) to hell constantly. To jump ahead a bit, I believe in the JP versions of the End of All Sky/Land/Below tracks are even called The End of All Roads Heaven/Earth/Hell. The Vallites are also often called demons in the JP version, and Anankos himself is known as the ‘Invisible Demon Dragon’.

Another cool thing I just thought of too, is a connection to a popular Japanese short story. Zelda fans might be familiar with the story, “The Spider’s Thread”, which inspired the Ancient Cistern dungeon in Skyward Sword.

The beginning of the story has Buddha walking through paradise (heaven), before coming across a pond. The pond is filled with crystal clear water, and covered with water lilies/lotuses. As Buddha gazes further into the pond, he begins to see the depths of hell.

Sound familiar? “Azura is walking through Hoshido, before coming across a lake. The lake is filled with crystal clear water, and when she gazes into the lake she sees the fallen kingdom of her birth. Valla, the kingdom associated with water lilies/lotuses in the game, has been turned into hell itself.”

This association loses its meaning a bit when the comparisons to hell are a bit toned down, as well as when the Buddhist inspirations were kind of supplanted in favor of Greek renames. It’s not supremely important to the plot as a whole, but it’s something interesting I wanted to bring up.

-In the JP version, while explaining what happened in Valla, Azura eventually says “Using the art of manipulating people’s souls, he (Hydra/Anankos) made the people kill each other.” This bit of the people killing each other was cut in localization.

Chapter 12

-In the JP version, when Corrin asks Flora if she knows anything about dragons, Flora says “Sorry, I don’t know…The ancestral dragon of the Ice Clan has already perished and isn’t part of the legend. I don’t know what role it plays, sorry…” Localization makes her response “I'm sorry, but I can't think of anything... They've been gone so long that we don't even have tales of dragons in the Ice Tribe. I'm sorry I couldn't be of more assistance...”

So, the JP version explicitly says the Ice Dragon is dead (I believe Fates’ second artbook mentioned this as well), whereas the localization only says the First Dragons have been gone for a long time.

Chapter 16

-There’s not really much of a problem that I have with what Ryoma says about Corrin “having leadership qualities at a young age” but I wanted to do comparisons regardless cuz the word choice might lead one to different conclusions. In localization, Ryoma says this:

Ryoma: Huh... So she told us the same thing... I don't think it's in Corrin's nature to lie. And there's a leadership quality about her that just attracts followers. I remember being jealous of her as a child, in fact. Even at such a young age, she displayed the characteristics of a ruler. Silly to be jealous of her, right?

In the JP version, Ryoma says this:

Ryoma: Oh... So, she told you the same thing. …Corrin isn’t one to tell lies. She’s been like that since childhood. She’s always genuine and honest... She has this mysterious appeal that draws people to her. Seeing my younger sister with the qualities of being a ruler... Honestly, it makes me feel envious. …What a ridiculous thing to say, right?

Again, I don’t necessarily have a problem with how it was localized, but some might. The localization version might have people think that Corrin somehow was a fantastic leader at such a young age, but JP is more clear that it was about the qualities she had at a young age that would be valuable as a leader.

Chapter 19

-A minor gripe. In the localization, Azura says that Anankos uses his magic to send Vallites to Nohr and Hoshido to stir up conflict. In the JP version, she says he uses magic, along with the help of a body of water. That’s why whenever you fight Vallites outside of Valla proper, there’s a body of water nearby; Hoshido’s lake (and the ponds shown in Hinoka’s CQ battle which are in the capital) for Chapter 5, the sea for BR chapter 11, the burning falls for BR chapter 21, and the city for Rev chapter 13. Similarly, the consequences of being a victim to the curse are described as “turning into sea foam” in the JP version. Localization as a whole kind of toned down how much water has an influence on the story.

Chapter 23

-Probably the pettiest gripe I have lol. As Arete is fading away from Azura’s arms, Azura has a different reaction in localization and Japanese. In localization, Azura says “Mother? Mother!” while a voice clip of her in-battle pain cries plays. In the JP, she says  “*Sob... Sob*…! Mother... Mother...!”, while a voice clip of her crying plays. Her crying voice clip I don’t recall hearing anywhere else.

This is one of the few times in the you get to see Azura express a heavy and heartfelt emotion, since her rough childhood caused her to remain guarded and stoic around everyone. The equivalents to this scene in other routes is her death scene in Birthright, and her crying with Corrin over Ryoma’s death in Conquest; a normally unflinching and aloof character breaking down is a rarity, and indicates that the cause of it is something to take note of for the character as a whole. Localization softened this aspect, and I take issue with it, despite it probably seeming trivial to most other people.

Chapter 24

-When Corrin is questioning the phantom Mikoto, an exchange happens. In localization, part of it goes like this:

Corrin: But this can't be... Are you truly my mother?

Mikoto: I am. Even as a puppet of Anankos, my spirit at least remains my own.

Corrin: I... I believe you.

In the JP version, it goes like this:

Corrin: It can’t be... …Are you really my mother?

Mikoto: Yes... I became an Invisible servant, controlled by the Invisible King... Even so, I am your mother.

Corrin:  …………

Again, a minor thing that I don’t personally have issue with, but replacing Corrin’s silence with an admittance of belief could make some believe she has “reverted” back to being too naïve.

Chapter 26

-While Gunter is relaying his past, an exchange happens. In localization, it goes like this:

Gunter: I ask myself that, every day. I cannot understand the minds of royals. To you all, we commoners are little more than pawns in your schemes... Or weeds to be killed on a whim.

Corrin: That's not true...

Xander: Is that how people view the royalty?

Ryoma: Such an impression would easily breed powerful resentment...

In the JP version, Corrin, Xander and Ryoma don’t say anything. They just remain silent.

Endgame

-Not a major problem so much as a general thing about the game, but I can think of like... at least three memes that Treehouse inserted into the localization. Now I like memes, but there is no better way to date your media nowadays. One of them was Kana’s “That’s dragon for I love you” which tbh, is kind of cute and isn’t the most well known meme so I guess I can let it slide. Another is Felicia saying “I had one job!” when she messes up in the dining hall, which isn’t that big of a deal since the dining hall is very optional.

The last one I can think of is why I put this specific grievance here, and it’s during Corrin’s speech before facing Anankos.

Corrin: We won't back down! This is my... This is our destiny! Ready your weapons! Fight for your friends! With the Seal of Flames... With the Fire Emblem on our side! We fight for our world!!

Yeah, she says “Fight for your friends” which is everyone’s favorite Ike line from Brawl. Now, this isn’t even a totally inaccurate translation either, but it kind of just... makes the moment funny for the player when it’s supposed to be commanding and serious I guess.

But yeah, not the most important issue by far, but something I’d thought to mention. Hell, it’s not even that bad compared to how they made Peri’s, Effie’s and Hisame’s quirks into exaggerated and tired jokes. And the Beruka-Saizo support. Never forget.

-When Azura and Corrin are by the lake and discuss the latter’s plans to rule, Corrin says this in localization:

Corrin: I'm going to make Valla a wonderful place! In honor of the true last king and for Queen Arete. And everyone who fought... I promise to make them all proud.

In the JP version, she says this:

Corrin: I’ll make the Invisible Kingdom (Valla) into a great land. For the previous monarch, Queen Shenmei (Arete)… And for all of my allies who fought beside me. I promise.

So, JP version only mentions Arete as the reigning monarch of Valla. Which makes sense, cuz unless there was some wild “keeping the bloodline pure” shenanigans in Valla, Arete being the Queen keeps in line with what we know about the rest of Valla’s history. Arete was royalty from birth, as was her sister Mikoto. Arete is the one who passed down Lost in Thoughts and the pendant to Azura.

for the meme: pingxie? (yes i just want to hear about your love for them :D)

this bingo card honestly doesn't have any of the options that would describe my love for pingxie. and bc of it being so, i am going to talk about them. a lot. but i guess that is what you asked for :'D

tbh am not always sure i can contain the feelings i have for these two. i've had intense shipping phases before but pingxie manages to overcome even most of those as a ship? maybe it's the yearning. maybe it's the inevitable tragedy of them. maybe it's the idiocy they show while being oblivious of each other's feelings. maybe it's the fact that they're not canon but they're still Canon. npss might dig pits faster than we can fill but he's always been very sure about pingxie lol

but they just. they. they are Amazing. in all of their stages they are amazing bc there obviously are different stages to their relationship. they go as:

'having my first boy crush and being a mess/oblivious about it' wu xie + 'why do i keep saving this idiotic boy again?' xiaoge where both of them are intrigued and dance this dance that makes me want to tear my hair out

pingxie both going 'i would die for you' 'not if i die for you first' (and pangzi shaking his head tiredly, give this man a break)

mafia widow wu xie and zhang qiling the immortal warrior, guardian of the bronze gate, larger than life itself - which only brings me pain and suffering but which i would still die for bc they're funky like that, you end up thanking them for your pain :D

'i will never lose you again, it's my turn to protect you, please stay home with me' househusband wu xie + 'i never thought i'd see you again, you have changed but i love all these sides of you, i will cherish all the time that we have' xiaoge who both trust the other so much it makes my eyes sweat

watching them in all of these stages is a joy. i love watching them be in love with each other. i love to see the development of their relationship where we go from wu xie's outright suspicion to him being willing to both die and kill for xiaoge and xiaoge learning the art of living again just bc this one man looked at him differently and thought he was worth fighting for. there's so much growth and change and even bad type of change and still, they accept each other just the way they are.

also, one addition bc am trying to keep this a bit shorter than an essay but want to talk about how much i love digging into them and just finding these tiny details that speak for my soul:

lately i've been toying with this thought of pingxie and their different approaches to their names. they are often opposites of each other and i guess the fandom in general loves the symbolism of wu xie being white and xiaoge being black (and then managing to throw this upside down in some ways bc that's also so them, breaking out of the box) and when it comes to names, it's the same.

wu xie's name is a wish and an omen. his family chose it for him like that and it carries a lot of hope in it. we know his uncles even put this against him at times. but when zhang qiling says wu xie's name, it's something more. it's everything xiaoge has ever felt for wu xie. it contains so much it's about to burst. it's more than just two syllables. it's xiaoge's heart and soul and everything in his world. wu xie's name in this sense, is full. but, it's less too. it doesn't hold any burden to it. with xiaoge, wu xie is simply wu xie. there are no expectations or his family's wishes to follow. it's kind of... freeing i'd say.

zhang qiling again lacks a name. he doesn't remember who he was called back when he was born (if he was called anything at all? most likely not) and all he has left is this title that has been passed down from person to person. it's not a name, it's a chain. it's a burden. a fate, a destiny bigger than himself. a death sentence. a killer. a monster. a shadow and then nothing at all.

xiaoge doesn't really like calling himself zhang qiling (even if he does) and it's obvious to wu xie very soon too. others might call xiaoge zql but not wu xie (not often at least). instead, wu xie takes this most common nickname, 'xiaoge', and does with it the same thing as xiaoge has done with wu xie's name. he makes that impersonate nickname feel full. he fills that name with meaning. he gives xiaoge a name to connect to (and well, men youping is another one but wu xie doesn't say that to xiaoge's face right? so it doesn't really count). he gives xiaoge a name wu xie can connect him to and it works so well that he despises that nickname for a decade, tough luck. but it is what it is.

so, in wu xie's mouth, xiaoge's 'empty' nickname becomes full. and in xiaoge's mouth, wu xie's very meaningful name becomes even more meaningful but in a different way. it doesn't hold the wishes of his family but only xiaoge's heart. is it easier to carry like that? maybe it is, maybe not. at times. for them, it's always 'at times'.

1, 2 & 10 for the artist ask meme!!

Thank you for the ask!! I honestly didn’t think I was gonna get any lmao so I appreciate it! 1.) Like the previous ask I work on multiple things at once (blame adhd) so along with the two I shown before I’ve also been working on this indulgently lmao 

(some bonus thumbnailing!)

2.) This was REALLY hard to decide BUT I think I got my 5...

In first place we got this self portrait I did! I was neck deep in an art block and super bummed SO my beloved dear friend suggested I try a different style and wouldn’t ya know it IT WORKED. I haven’t done a self portrait since high school and it’s always been something I encouraged artists to do so I also took my own advice for once lol

In second place is this piece I did for my hunter oc from Destiny he’s my lil baby💕

Third place is THIS GUY. They really kickstarted me putting more effort into painting my ocs rather than fan art and OOF all I did was paint over a sketch (you can still see the texture and pencil marks on the bottom) and it’s still just so pleasing to look at

Fourth place is Clover and Davie! I don’t think an explanation is needed this is just so cute 💚💚💚💚💚

Lastly we finally got some fanart! I was trying out some older brushes and this just took off on me but I really like how it turned out even if it got a lil lazy on some parts. It’s a shame the post didn’t really get any attention though 💔💔💔

I also wanted to include an honorable mention... the pic is a lil low quality but I painted this in my junior year of high school (so about 2017-18) and it is still one of my favorite traditional pieces I’ve ever done

10.) I’ll try to make this one short bc I’ve rambled enough already lol  This might kind of sound depressing to some but it was one of the only things I was ever really good at. It was something that couldn’t be compared to my brothers or any other family and something that I could easily lose myself in (also bc of adhd but shhh). Not only that but I really don’t think I’m a very good writer or uh, “speaker” so being able to put myself down on paper meant everything to me. Not to sound too nerdy but it’s also why I love Haikyuu so much (like it enough to binge it four times,, smh) is that I haven’t seen anything that encapsulates every mood I’ve felt during my year as an artist. I won’t jump on a whole lecture abt haikyuu but with some of these characters, it’s hit REAL close to home both as an artist and just as a person  (not so subtlety recommending everyone to watch/read haikyuu lol) And that’s it! Thank you so much for the ask! I know I don’t do these things often but it’s fun to take advantage and ramble about whatever I can >:3c
