Physical Appearance

Hestia is a 5'4" (162.56 cm) young woman who engages in regular physical activity. She's lightly toned and has a relatively pale complexion (which, unfortunately for her, tends to burn rather than tan). While at Xavier's, she cuts her wavy dark hair (into a shoulder-length bob), which can easily grow to the small of her back. It’s prematurely graying as a result of her powers. She has striking grey eyes, which appear to glow in the light. Athleisure takes up most of her wardrobe--the rest is slightly chic formal that she wears sometimes when she teaches. Her symbiote form adds another four inches to her frame. Sometimes, her symbiote takes the form of a puddle with its usual eyes when it slinks around or curiously observes people without its owner being present.

Personality

Almost everyone who meets Hestia knows her to be a friendly, loyal, compassionate individual. At her core, that's who she really is. She loves hard and is always willing to be a shoulder to cry on or a giver of advice. Her negative traits are connected to her fear of being left behind (which originated when her parents divorced as a result of her childhood hardship). When her everyday schedule piles up too high with classes to teach, tutoring sessions, and chores, she can tend to run away from it all by taking shortcuts. Also, she tends to ramble when she's nervous, and that happens when she's trying to keep one of her own secrets. Strangely enough though, she is a good undercover agent because she simply doesn't see her job as her secret--as much as it is SHIELD's. Her symbiote typically has the mind of a young middle schooler (slightly feral, eager to please her, frightened by thunderstorms).

History

Hestia was born to a Québécois mother, Lea Tremblay, and a Han Chinese father, Vince Li (surname voluntarily translated to Black). Her mutation became apparent when she was ten, disrupting her otherwise happy family life. Hestia's ability to copy physical skills simply by observing them made her a prodigy in soccer and ballet. It also made her the target of bullying. That was how the unfortunate side effect of her mutation, a feral state triggered by sudden shock, became known. Due to the constant drama, Hestia's parents ended up getting a divorce. Her mother decided to stay in Quebec with Hestia's little brother, while Hestia moved to New York with her father. Mr. Black soon became an alcoholic, so Hestia earned money after school by counting cards in underground gambling rings. Her only solace was going to high school, where the kids saw her as a sweet, perfect popular girl. Tragedy struck again when Hestia was mugged in a park. She tried to fight the gunman and got shot, triggering her feral state. After she'd beaten him up, a symbiote (who Hestia would name Stitch) slithered out from the bushes and forcibly bonded with her, before eating the unconscious criminal. This traumatized Hestia, who spent the next week lying in bed. One day, she suddenly found herself filling out an application for Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters. As soon as she got in, she left her dad some money and went to get help from Professor Charles Xavier.

Powers / Abilities: 

Photographic Kinesthesia (she can copy any physical skill she's observed) and Symbiote Physiology (read Eddie Brock's section). The symbiote can be injured and/or torn apart by fire or loud sounds. It hungers for a chemical that can only be found in brains and/or chocolate--phenethylamine. Hestia cannot use her mutant ability while the symbiote is active (on the outside of her skin). She sometimes has it temporarily separate from her so she can, often to replicate martial arts moves, melee weapon techniques, dances, diving, etc. She also sometimes separates from Stitch so it can subtly sneak ahead and help with reconnaissance.

Trivia:

Hestia's 1st friend at the X-Mansion was Scott Summers.

Even before her mutation presented itself, she had a natural talent for soccer and ballet (not to mention doing math).

The grey streaks in her hair are a visual consequence of her mutation. No, her power can't kill her.

She is on-call as a "consultant" for SHIELD, which means she goes on missions for them and lets them study her, in return for them not showing up at the X-Mansion or arresting her or her brother for their crimes.

The money she earned during high school (mostly won in poker) is partly stored in a closet just in case. It's a couple hundred thousand.

Feeling that both of her parents abandoned her, Hestia took the surname "Li", which her ancestors used. It translates to "Black".

Stitch, her symbiote, was named after its own ability to break apart and reform correctly. The movie character is just a nice coincidence.

Hestia's brother, Connor, is two years younger than she is. He is a mutant with a perfect eidetic memory, who works for criminals.

She teaches European French, Phys Ed & occasionally Cantonese.

Hestia loves watching/commentating for hockey with Logan, even though it's a lot of unnecessary Canadian people's screaming.

Brotherhood AU

Origins/Wolverine: Hestia still bonds with Stitch, but she's taken by Stryker's people when she's fifteen. She escapes by herself, catching the guards by surprise by using her symbiote's abilities.

The Movies: Hestia is somewhere between her twenties and thirties, adjusted as needed. She's a teacher and an X-Man.

General/Comics: she's in her mid-thirties. She teaches when she's not on kitchen duty or doing a mission for SHIELD.

IRL AU: Hestia teaches something physical (self-defense, kid's sports, ballet, etc.)

*I don't want to write any threads dealing with live-action movies made after The Last Stand. I just don't like their plots & some of the casting (plus the timeline confuses me SO MUCH) --anyway, I'm still down to RP with canons from then!

PJO DEMIGOD HEADCANONS [BONUS!]

🔥 HESTIA: Goddess of the Hearth 🏠

author's note: I had a sudden idea about writing some headcanons Camp Halfblood demigods being claimed and what it's like for each respective god and cabin, followed by a small blurb afterwards. Alright bear with me on this take: The fact that Hades gets a cabin finally. Hera doesn’t have any demigod children yet still has a cabin because of propriety and based on principle, which makes her cabin essentially a temple, so why not the same for Hestia?  While Hestia may not have a need for a cabin or anything, but if the rest of the major gods have a structure, it might've felt uneasy for everyone that Hestia is the only one left that doesn't have one. So they erect one on the fact unless Hestia herself explicitly says she doesn't want one.

Hestia is the goddess of the Hearth and every offering/sacrifice offered to the gods, a bit of it always goes to her too. She also presides over the home and community.

Although this is mainly connected with h er Roman counterpart, Vesta, she has something similar to Artemis’ hunters but less aggressive and non-violent, called “The Vestal Virgins” who tend to the sacred fire in the Temple of Vesta. Essentially, you’re priestesses of Hestia. 

Any demigod, mortal who can see through the mist, or what have you, are allowed to become as Hestia’s priestesses, who follow the same oath of maidenhood, swearing off romance, and etc. It's not uncommon to have mortals who were sisters or cousins, to either to the mortal parent of the demigod, or the demigod themselves, enter as Hestia's priestess.

You help maintain the sacrificial fire that is set up at the campfire, at the dining hall, and later the one in the Hestia’s cabin/temple. 

It’s pretty straightforward. You do your duties that fall underneath Hestia’s domain, helping out with also maintaining the camp along with the Nymphs. Doing what you can for the community.

Children and those entering the household were blessed by Hestia, around the fire, showering them in nuts and figs. This also applies to any children entering camp at a young age or any staff members employed into Camp Half-blood. 

You help bless any new babies that are born in Camp Half-blood, or rarely brought forward by former camp members. Oftentimes, the babies are baby satyrs and you work together with the children of Hebe who help take care of them as a daycare situation.

On a sombre note: you also are in charge with the funerals, with helping prepare the funeral pyres, and each shroud. You put out the fire at their deaths and rekindle it once more.

Your place is also the place to be for cooking and baking. Hestia’s domain is the hearth, which was also used to cook, so the kitchen is also her domain. This leads to so much baked and cooked food, that is separate from the mountain of food cooked for the dining pavilion. You often then not have a never ending line of people asking for some goodies. Hey, all growing heroes need to eat! 

You also have to fend and cap off the satyrs. Your kitchenware are not safe.  

The Winter Solstices, Christmas, Harvest festival, Thanksgiving, all those kinds of days are your ALL HANDS ON DECK moments. So much food. So much preparation and decoration to do! You often employ other camp members to help out with the events from the cooking to decoration. Their payment? Little sneaky treats.

You wondered before how the sacrificial fire was maintained and taken care of before you all came to be. Sure it was technically magical/spiritual fire and a portion of it could’ve been taken from Mount Olympus long ago to Camp Half-blood, but still-

Then you see a little girl with brown hair and brown eyes helping tend to the fire. You weren’t sure but you all worked together with her until one day, you saw her eyes light up with fire.

You breathed in the smoke and heat of the crackling blazer. The fire was high and roaring yet despite the dangers of it, you weren’t afraid of getting burnt. Perhaps it is because you’ve been tending to the fire for a while now, so you were sure how close was too close. Or was it because you had a feeling this was Hestia’s fire and knew you wouldn’t be harmed by it as you serve in her name and domain. 

You had just finished up helping with the food rotation, and you were on baking duty. You and your other fellow members worked alongside the nymphs and dryads,  The table was laden out with food for the incoming hungry campers, and the sneaky hands of Satyrs. 

You poured the oil into the blazer and the fires roared even higher. You watch the embers fly up into the darkening sky filled with the sunset hues. 

“A wonderful fire” you heard as you turned. You saw the little girl with brown hair, and brown eyes right beside you , and you almost jumped into the fire. You weren’t afraid of getting burnt but surely jumping into the blazer would still be a big no-no. 

The girl giggled as you placed a hand on your beating heart. “Um…yeah, yes, the fire is wonderful” you stammered out a reply. 

The girl smiled at you and gestured to you to come closer. You did and she reached into her robe to pull out a treat. Your favourite treat. Your mouth watered and it smelled just right. 

“For you. Wonderful work (y/n), I hope you continue to warm others with our hearth” she said as you took the treat. You looked her in the eye and her brown eyes lit with fire. You widen your eyes, your body stiffening as you realise who you were talking to. 

Hestia gave you one last, warm smile, before she disappeared into embers.

To celebrate Asexual Visibility Week (which Happy Asexual Visibility Week by the way omg), here is a list of characters who are now asexual because I said so:

Crowley and Aziraphale (Good Omens) I mean, this is basically canon for me already but their relationship genuinely means so much to me because it's not inherently romantic or sexual or even strictly platonic, they just have such a strong emotional bond and love each other in a way that I think could only be asexual. And being fairly new to my sexuality (not even a year yet) I really needed them in my life. Maybe I don't want an allonormative relationship - maybe I just want what they have. Idk they're just really special to me.

Belle (Beauty and the Beast) Belle being ace removes the beastiality aspect of the story so I think this is best for everyone involved. (This goes for Tiana too, actually - ace!Tiana, let's go). But she literally fell in love with the Beast because of his personality after spending a long time getting to know him (and because of a Library but ykw me too girlie). And it helps that I've had a strong attachment to Belle since forever (and I actually played her in a school production when I was 6).

Peter Pettigrew (Harry Potter) Right, so I do hate Peter and I wouldn't do this if I didn't have to, but omg he is so asexual. And definitely not saying that asexual people are going to betray and murder their best friends but I feel like not fitting in with his very allonormative group and maybe not even knowing what the term asexual means could be an interesting motivation for his actions. Peter feeling like he's broken somehow for not feeling what the others are feeling, thinking there must be something wrong with him since everyone else is falling in love, viewing himself as unloveable because platonic love isn't enough when everyone else has a brilliant romance, turning to the Dark Lord because he's been left behind but maybe this will fix him... and then losing that platonic love too and realising he didn't need fixing after all and his friends were enough, but now it's too late. So, anyway, ace!Peter makes me sad.

Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games) "There's never been anything romantic between Gale and me." This is 100% because Gale is a walking red flag but I'll take it as an aroace thing too. “Remember, we’re madly in love, so it’s all right to kiss me any time you feel like it.” The fact she didn't fall head-over-heels in love with Peeta as soon as he said this is honestly all the evidence I need. Also trying to act like you're madly in love with someone? I know it was for survival but, again, I'll take what I can get. "What I need is the dandelion in the spring... And only Peeta can give me that." This is not an allosexual relationship, I will not change my mind. Personally, I think Katniss is probably demisexual and I love her for that.

The Doctor (Doctor Who) If I had a nickel for every time David Tennant played an 'immortal' genderfluid asexual non-human who loves the stars and humanity, I'd have two nickels, which isn't a lot but it's weird that it happened twice. And if I had a nickel for every time I was in love with those characters, I would also have two nickels. But, yeah, the Doctor is asexual, that's just canon for me (and David Tennant said it too soooooooo).

Zoe Nightshade (Percy Jackson) The Hunters of Artemis are a sisterhood that requires you to swear off love and relations with men. Oh no, what a sacrifice! Come to think of it, she also has a connection to the stars - this is becoming a recurring thing.

Artemis, Athena, and Hestia (Greek Mythology) The fact there is a trio of asexual goddesses will never not make me so happy. In the Homeric Hymns, 5, To Aphrodite, Aphrodite is described as having "no power" over these three, which basically just confirms what everyone was already thinking. Artemis is quite literally the Maiden Goddess, who asks her father, Zeus, to forever remain a virgin and protect those who wish the same. Athena never took on any lovers (and in the Percy Jackson series, her children are conceived through her thoughts and born in the same way she was). And Hestia just wanted to be left alone with her hearth, also never marrying or having children.

Barbie (Barbie) "To do what?" Girlie literally has nothing going on down there (for the majority of the movie, idk what happened at the end) and doesn't understand why Ken wants to stay over because they're girlfriend boyfriend. The point of the Barbies is that they show women can be everything so, legally, no one can stop me saying she's an asexual icon.

Regulus Black (Harry Potter) I apologise to all the Jegulus stans out there but you can pry Regulus from my cold, dead hands. Asexual and Bi/Pan friendships are my absolute favourite (shout out to me and my bestie <3) and that is exactly what he's got with Pandora. Also, after Sirius was disowned, the responsibility of continuing the Black family line would fall to Regulus and that aroace pressure makes for some beautiful angst. And it means he's okay with sacrificing himself because at least he won't have to force a life he doesn't want. Why does the Marauders era always turn so sad so quickly?

Inej Ghafa (Six of Crows) Again with the Asexual and Bi/Pan friendships - I'm really just projecting myself and my best friend onto Inej and Nina, but who's going to stop me? I could say Ace!Kaz as well but I think his is more just a trauma response than a sexuality.

Elsa (Frozen) and Merida (Brave) Watch out, Disney; I'm coming for all of your princesses. I'm putting these two together because they could be asexual but I could also see them as lesbians - or maybe they're both.

Charlie Weasley (Harry Potter) He is the blueprint. Mum wants me to get married and settle down? Yeah, okay, but have you heard about dragons?

Newt Scamander (Fantastic Beasts) He is also the blueprint. Yeah, okay, but have you heard about every beast to ever exist ever?

I could keep going but I won't (for now). These characters mean so much to me and my asexuality and these headcanons honestly make me so happy. But honestly, we need more asexual characters in media because we're so underrepresented and it's such a serotonin boost. Like, in S4 of Sex Education, I actively gasped and had such a big smile on my face when O came out as ace (at the representation, not the being forced to come out). if they find each other in the wild they'll have an inexplainable pull to each other, almost immediately clocking each other as someone oddly familiar + familial (being formed from the same divine ashes) even without the knowledge of their godly roots

that being said: if they're pissed off for whatever reason, someone fucked up real badly

usually mediator/neutral middle man for any conflicts

they'll lead the vast majority of ceremonies if chiron or mr. d don't make any request to lead themselves or it isn't a god-specific thing

will be claimed if any part of their body is immersed in flames

once at camp and claimed, they work with hephaestus kids with fire for forge, and will monitor all sacrificial fires

granted privilege of first burn for any and all sacrifices

invulnerability to any and all heat + flame (including greek fire and hellfire)

teleportation to any building with a fire burning within it, or even a campfire

Name: Hestia Black Age: 14 at the time of winning, 19 by The Hunger Games. Gender: Cis Female District: 6

Appearance: Hestia is a 5'4" (162.56 cm) woman who engages in regular physical activity. While living in District 6, she had a decent diet, one which only improved once she became a Victor, so she was never malnourished. She's lightly toned and has a relatively pale complexion. Prior to the rebellion, her dark hair is pulled back into a rough updo. During the rebellion, she adopts a pixie cut. Hestia has striking grey eyes, which appear to glow in the light. Personality: Considering her environment, Hestia's fairly upbeat around her loved ones. She shows this typically by asking lots of questions, as she's a naturally curious person. Even at her job, which is an apprenticeship in transportation management, she always wants to know exactly how things work and why people think the way they do. When people open up to her, she tends to come up with little quips, in an attempt to brighten the conversation. She just really likes making friends, since she grew up being looked at with suspicion by those in her District. Hestia's caretaker convinced the lead scientists that ordinary Hestia could be taken to a faraway District (6) and utilized as a spy (as opposed to being "terminated"). At 12, Hestia discovered that she could copy any physical movement and/or skill she observed. However, if she became terribly frightened, she'd go into a feral state and forget all the skills she'd "learned". This helped her win the 69th Hunger Games, though the reveal of her feral side (culminating in a few violent scenes) made some raise an eyebrow. Thankfully for her, the tesserae that she won for her District charmed her fellow citizens into accepting her; prior to that, they distrusted her due to her obvious outsider status (as she mysteriously arrived from the Capitol a decade before). Still, Hestia mostly spends time with just her mom and the other District 6 victor, a 24-year-old male named Aren Lorry who is addicted to morphling. so, Lady Hestia is a virgin goddess. but that doesn’t mean she can’t have a child in other ways. like how Lady Athena has children of the mind. Lady Hestia has children of the hearth. She does not necessarily need to have another being with her to create a child as the child is made almost entirely of fire and ash.

She starts slowly and lovingly. gently molding scolding embers and soft ash into place. into the form of a child of any age. any size, shape, race, gender.

She makes sure that She places all of her love into the child is it grows. as the embers heal and the ash solidifies and flesh takes it places.

Her child will resemble Her, yes, but they will also take on physical characteristics and personality traits that appeal to her at the time.

She has never allowed Her family to meet these children. As much as family means to Her, She has seen what can happen when one of them takes to much interest in another’s children.

So she protects them and makes sure they have a happy long life. Since she is not under some oath, and because no one knows her children exist, she makes sure they are protected and safe.

She very rarely has children. it hurts seeing them live such short lives but she also would never damn them with immortality if they do not want it. And so far, none of them have wanted to live forever. their lives are so happy and safe, they never feel unsatisfied with what they’ve had.

She will always hold them close to her heart and pieces of them will always be in her personal hearth.

people usually say they have a good vibe and that’s why they make many new friends everywhere they go

children of hestia wake up early most of the time even though they don’t have to, and when it happens they’ll help to make the other demigods’ breakfast

there is not even one cabin that doesn’t like children of hestia

most of them are really into physical touch

usually don’t make good leaders because they are afraid of hurting the others feelings and hesitate to make decisions

their cabin is really warm and cozy and is usually the place the other cabins go when they’re feeling down or overwhelmed

they are addicted to tea or coffee

their best friends are cabin 4, 7, 14, 15 and 18
