is this where i dump my trans norn headcanons becau---

okay so these aren't 100% solid and i'm still figuring it out but given a lot of norn stuff is about journeys and hunts and legends, i feel like journeys of self-discovery are very very much a part of norn culture, which would include journeys of gender affirmation

thought about these a lot because of Solvarus, he's still kind of making his way through his but at some point during s1 he made the realisation that he was not the gender he was assigned at birth. his is a little unconventional for his culture because due to his being part of the Pact he was able to access some resources and get top surgery courtesy of asuran contacts, but the rest of his transition is very much a spiritual thing

on that note, i'd like to mention how i consider Hare a spirit of harmony, due to how she's said to embody traits of all four of the greater spirits in some regard - so it makes a lot of sense that Hare chose to bless Solvarus, not just for his resilience and how well he weathers storms, but also because he seeks harmony with himself

and on the note of spirits i wish we had more about Frog because i feel like Frog and Hare are very similar; Frog is also very resilient, cunning and a spirit who offers a blessing of fertility - in some sense they mirror one another, with Hare being a faster-paced more energetic spirit, and Frog being slower and more chill

oh this kind of got a little long winded whoops

27. Just about everyone is accusing someone else of being related to Grawl. Who is? And what are other fun evolutionary tidbits?

hmmm i've never given this one much thought before, i don't think the grawl are related to humans or charr at all, though i did bounce around the thought that they might have evolved from gorillas that somehow moved from Orr to Ascalon, but given they're an older race than humans and orr was established by humans... if Tyria was once a pangea maybe

u know it'd be wild if they were actually descended from giganticus lupicus?? i'm just throwing shit out at this point

32. We’ve seen the unchained Risen in Siren’s Landing, and how some appear to have a limited intelligence and gather other Risen around them. How do you think Mordremoth’s and Kralkattorik’s minions fare after their masters’ demise?

okay so here we get some Mortal Scions/Hestia-Rhouzza AU tidbits: there are an amount of mordrem who remained completely loyal to Mordremoth following his "death", and they continue to make problems in the heart of the jungle and the Silverwastes

however, a good chunk of them were mostly left rudderless, and latched on to what they sensed from Trahearne - for example, there was something of an exodus of mordrem wolves (led by the large one that haunted the labyrinth, later named lily) that travelled to the grove, and it caused quite a stir, but they were all very tame and friendly and just seeking out their new master

a lot of sylvari who fell to the call or were corrupted fully came back this way too, led by Malyck, who had been quite badly physically corrupted in an attempt to break his spirit. he was since healed of most of the corruption Mordremoth threw on him by Trahearne essentially re-blighting him

there are definitely other creatures who fall into this category, and it would include any and all kinds of mordrem, with corrupted or blighted sylvari being the most likely to detach fully from Mordremoth's command

from what i've seen i believe the branded actually just kind of revert to natural behaviour? but also few of them held much intelligence and were basically just in angy attack mode. really like the idea of Aurene finding a way to wrangle them

Magical magic happens, your characters have become another race for a year! Who would struggle the most with this change? Sylvari become charr, charr become human, asura become norn, humans become asura, and norn become sylvari. - moonlit-grove

Bonus: who would kinda not want to change back after the year?

OOH I LOVE THIS HANG ON THIS IS GONNA GET LONG!!!! because OBVIOUSLY i have to make them in the character creator as well

okay let’s start with hestia

so hestia as a human, she'd probably have a LOT to get used to, and it would be quite difficult for her at first. being a lot smaller (since she's a runty charr, so that'd translate to being quite a short human!), and she'd also have to adjust to a new gait, smaller hands, different weight distributions, and not having a tail to balance her...

i think once she got the hang of it though, and it wouldn't take her OVERLY long, she'd be just fine! having to wrap up sooner in chillier temperatures might throw her for a loop longer than anything else

as for whether she'd want to change back when the year's up: yes. definitely. she likes being a charr too much, especially if this also meant rhouzza would be a norn and thus rhouzza would be the bigger of them. hestia LIKES being the big horned goth gf

jen next because i've been doing a lot with her lately

okay jen would actually kind of HATE this because this would make her a lot shorter. she'd also hate having less fingers, it'd make it harder to even TRY to play instruments amongst other things. the ears would probably hit her in the face a lot especially when she's using air magic, and the main thing that would make her feel better is being told she's cute and having people scritch her behind the ears

i'd like to think the whole thing of asura history with sylvari would be a nonissue but it's worth mentioning it given her involvement with dagonet and how close dagonet and malomedies are in our au

she would definitely not want to remain an asura afterwards

sol would feel... kind of weird about being a sylvari?

one thing that's worth noting here actually: he's trans, has undergone top surgery, and gone part way through his trial with his totem spirit to affirm his gender

(i don't have the full hc for this mapped out yet and it'd be hard to quantify when it'd be different for every norn, but it's essentially a transitional journey that focuses on embracing themselves if that makes sense? it doesn't necessarily end in physical transition, though in sol's case it's been similar to a physical transition in a lot of aspects. it also takes different lengths of time for everyone - for sol he's gotten a good way through but he's got that issue of putting himself aside for everyone else's sake.)

so change isn't weird for sol at all! but this would be, especially getting used to the idea that there's parts of himself he can just.. change at will? but he'd vibe pretty good with that honestly

i don't know that he'd vibe entirely with some of the textural differences. he really likes the feeling of hair and fur, they feel very much like home to him.

overall i definitely think he'd be happy to be norn again after that year, and i almost feel like something like this would help him on his trial by giving him a new perspective

HERE COMES AISLINN....

aislinn would LOVE being a charr. soft and fluffy, big and huggable

she'd miss her pretty glow and her freckles but she would adore her spots

it would definitely be a learning curve for her to adjust to being a charr, but her enthusiasm would translate to much patience with her own struggles, and given many of her friends and colleagues are also very young sylvari i think they would be very patient and excited alongside her

i think of all my characters she'd be the one who'd kinda not want to change back, even if she does love being a sylvari!

and finally, leti as a norn........

leti would have like, no issues adjusting to being a norn apart from the height difference i don't think? she'd get used to the rest of it very quickly, and probably revel in her increased height, even if she'd be short for a norn

the primary obstacle would be adapting to her lab, or adapting her lab to herself, but she's nothing if not resourceful and patient

she'd consider staying a norn after the year was up, even if she has absolutely no issues with being an asura
