if hima introduced pakistan and india earlier on in hetalia i feel like they'd have the "younger brother who hated older brother" dynamic that norway and iceland have, with pakistan being the younger one. is it accurate? no, but sweden is canonically gay for finland despite their tense relationship in real life, and this feels so much like something hetalia would do. also he'd probably be around the same age as iceland and hongkong (16-17) and would get grouped with them because of their introverted teenager aura

I believe this has to be asked at some point, what is Antonio and Piri's relationship like?

Our internalized racism (thanking Spain for uniting the ethnolinguistic groups to form the PH, Islamophobia and prejudice against Indigenous people, desiring Western validation too much, viewing ourselves as not Southeast Asian enough due to Catholicism overpowering Hindu-Buddhism, etc.) toxic machismo (patriarchy and all its consequences and misogyny and the huge support for authoritarian politicians), hypocrisy (of the Church and everything else), and a lot more can trace its roots from the Spanish colonization of the Philippines

But for Spain, era solo otro día.

The Philippines was not Spain's most profitable colony, and there are even instances of people saying it's a waste of money. Credit goes to @sweaty-clouds for these excerpts:

With the constant typhoons that damage crops and the lack of spices which Indonesia is blessed with (to be fair, Mindanao had cinnamon but Spain failed to conquer most of it.), the Philippines was better off as a trading hub for Chinese goods bound for Acapulco and Europe. Ultimately, it was the missionaries that insisted on keeping the country (that's another can of worms), and in terms of foreign policy, and the Spanish empire needs to have a hold in Asia.

I can imagine Antonio comparing Piri constantly with his peers and being disappointed but still keeping him for Christianity's sake. He rarely visits him and leaves all the work to Mexico (Nueva España, then) until Mexico became independent and Suez Canal was opened which made travelling from Sp to Ph became faster.

Piri would ask how come his neighbors are productive and Antonio would blame him for being lazy rather than Spain's late industrialization and dependence on the mining of silver and gold in exchange for Chinese goods.

Jose Rizal criticized this Spanish style mercantilism: While we see all the walls of London covered with advertisements of the products of its colonies, while the English make heroic efforts to substitute Ceylon tea for Chinese tea, they themselves begin with the sacrifice of their taste and their stomach; in Spain, with the exception of tobacco, nothing from the Philippines is known: neither its sugar nor coffee, hemp nor fine cloths, nor its Ilocano blankets . . . . The most commercial and most industrious countries have been the freest countries: France, England and the United States prove this. Hongkong, which is not [equal to] the most insignificant [island] of the Philippines, has more commercial movement than all the islands together, because it is free and is well-governed.

But I am in no way an Anglo-Saxon apologist. They are fcked up too. This has to be pointed out because there were instances in PH history where some Filipinos would rather be a British colony in the belief that the success of Hongkong and Singapore can be imitated!

The PH economy did become less restrictive when Spain lost its colonies in the Americas (deserve!). Many were afforded the right to study in Europe, hence, the ilustrados and enlightened thinkers like Jose Rizal, Marcelo del Pilar, etc. With enlightenment, comes the desire to be independent.

So, Antonio tries to be . . . more amiable with Piri. Piri appreciates it since he wants his respect but he wants equal status (as he should), equal rights, and often criticizes the church. Little Piri wanted to be the favourite and would often pray the rosary and the novena, hoping it would make him the apple of Antonio's eyes, but teenage Piri ain't taking any shit anymore because if God exists, they would favor David and not Goliath.

Then there's the Spanish-American war.

Now I heard Spain was more sentimental about losing Cuba (whether it's real life or Hetalia canon). There's the Generation '98, but it was never about Piri alone. It was about the fallen empire. Their relationship remains strained throughout the 20th century, especially when some upperclass Mestizo families in the Philippines supported Franco and were leaning towards the Axis powers, but the Philippines was trying to take in more Jewish refugees. Learning the Spanish language was also no longer required, and more attention was given to learning English since there's more job opportunities (and also, Hollywood).

Perhaps in the recent decade, Piri and Antonio are more cordial and diplomatic for the sake of trade relations and business. The Arroyo administration was active in that regard. Filipinos, nowadays, would joke about fighting Spaniards and while we do acknowledge the lingering colonial mentality and how fcked up colonialism is, we're not hostile to Spaniards. There's also this anecdote from a former teacher and her interaction with a Spaniard who said something along the lines of, "I learned about what Spain did to the Philippines, and I'm sorry. But it was the Castillans who did it! Not me, I'm from Catalonia."

But since Piri (and Filipinos) is canonically sassy, he would have visited Antonio in the midst of his financial crisis and asked, "Can I get a discount in Zara as colonial reparations?"

I haven't watched Hetalia in a long while, and only recently reread the Manga, so I don't know why you are telling me this. The last post I made of Hetalia was like 3 months ago and the rest is mostly Omori and Sonic.

Secondly you do realize that you can consume media while knowing a creator is a bad person, like I can watch Miraculous Ladybug and still acknowledge that the creator is sexist, racist, and classist.

Plus it is not like his believe have a large effect on his work since Korea barely shows up in the series he haven't even shown up since 2011, that is like over a decade and he never shows up again in series. This is ignoring the fact that the characters do not actually represent the countries, they are just humans who happen to be immortal, they have to work for their bosses for all of eternity even if they don't like it (mostly seen with Germany, complaining how his bosses are unreasonable in the Manga).

I am not denying the fact that Korea was treated poorly in this series, he only shows up in sexual harassment jokes (like France before the reboot) and to make fun of. There are times where he was pretty funny such as destroying Japan's flag and using it in the most disrespectful way possible (ie. Making it into a mat, a shirt, and destroying for fun) and being chill WITH BEING BURNED ALIVE FOR SOUP, however as I said earlier most of Korea's traits in show have been overshadowed by how he just sexually harass characters, mainly Japan and China. There is so many wasted potential with his character which was all left to rot. An example of this is that Korea is shown to be extremely insecure about himself, when China looks at Korea's photo album he notices that Korea tends to over photoshop himself, in another strip it is shown that Korea is photogenic and no matter what you do he always looks good in a picture

This all happens while he is asleep by the way. He looks like this and still believes he should photoshop how he looks, it is not like he did this to any other photo that doesn't have him in it either. He just photoshop himself. Honestly, I like to think that this is a reference to how Korea gave the highest rates for plastic surgery, but it is probably a joke on kpop. Another time I can think of Korea's insecurities is when he stole Japan's mind reading goggles, he used them on China finding out that China actually hates him, though he creates a front and says, "these goggles don't work therefore Korea did not make them", but when China gives him toys (because they were creepy and China hated them, not because he likes Korea) he starts crying.

It is clear that he subconsciously thought that China hates him a lot, like there is no other explanation to why he cried when he got them. Though in this time around it is kind of ambiguous if he actually believes the giggles don't work or is in denial again, it is hard to tell. Though in my opinion he does seem upset and a little disappointed on what he hears and denies the fact again.

It is pretty clear that Korea have issues on how others perceive him. Though besides that whole thing he also have missed opportunities to interact with other character, the only one I seen him interacting with other than Japan and Korea is HongKong, which is actually my favorite Korea (as well as HongKong) interaction, since in this one he acts like a human being and not some pervert who believes he owns the world or something. Like look at this

Ignoring the fact that it is implied that they do hang out, what made him was that he was about to beat a game character and that he is wearing a jersey, like you can tell he is panicking because his Seoul is shown to be panicking as well. Then HongKong just overhears it since Korea is not a subtle person at all and decides to do this

The comedy isn't made to make fun of Korea or sexual harassment, it is just how Korea and HongKong interacts with eachother that is funny. I honestly wish Korea was treated like this more rather than what he was usually treated as in the Manga.

Anyways to summarize my point. You don't tell me what I should or should not watch, especially when I haven't seen said show for a few months now. Informing is fine by me, but saying I can't watch a show at all is just ridiculous. That being said, that doesn't mean I don't agree that Korea is treated badly as a character and that he have so many missed potentials because of it.

Okay! before we begin, Results of the poll! thes are the top 3, after one day

So after the canon shots for the day have fired, the contestants begin their uneasy night

The night starts sadly witth another dead, this time by ones own hand,

What is happening here, a snuggle fest, maybe England needed, it, because they split up with Mohawk, just a few hours ago, And Italy dolce who had done the same with Belarus, worries as wel. So they snuggle for warmth probably, and to make these games see a little less scary.

A...an unlikely group, to suddenly start singing, espeasily cheerfully,

Setting up camp to stay safe, seems he abonded the group he was with, did he figure out what they were really setting out to do?

I Imagen, holding hands and telling each other stories, such a beautiful sight, how long will it last tho

now there is a group I associate more with singing, But i wonder, is it smart, will the others not hear?

Are second, dead, and again by ones own hands. One of our 3rd place spots died, in such an unfortunate way. Probably got to confident with her favorite weapon

Lucky you, some people seem to really like you, use that water good, and don’t let others get to it, water is often scarce in these games

Seems that Russia got, help after he was scared off by 2p Austria, 4 against one...he never stood a chance

Lutz...if you had picked up wood, instead of flowers, maybe...just maybe it would have been successful

Going high up to rest, smart maybe other contestants won’t find you there, keeping the viewers happy i see

and two do nothing, but sleep, gather their strength, i hope they picked a good spot

AND THAT

concludes night 1, surely an eventful night, we got 3 more deaths. i will tell what their last words where after the gunshots to announce their death are made.

readmoreing about my hetalia fanfics

ok so i was having a conniption last week about how canonically there's like at least 3 hetalia countries that are twitch streamers (like BRO ,,,sexie funy manboob -core for real) and now im working on an au / fanfic / ?? where a bunch of the young and/or social media capable characters make the worlds shittiest hype house

so far the setup is that hongkong made a joke tweet aimed at provoking iceland and liechtenstein (canonically a trio of friends and painfully underutilized imo), bcz the latter two are um. liech is like 12~14 she uses the internet exclusively for playing barbie dressup games. and ice is a young teen but is canonically struggling with modern tech which i think is so great

anyway all this is to say that larger influencers like the philippines were like Our Species needs better marketing let me hook you up and make this happen and then idk there's a hashtag trending and it gets the attention of the USA who is like waow just like the netflix show ill set u up in LA like a real hype house. who are u guys again (<- doesn't know his world geography )

and hong is like ok um fuck it we ball. ill double down im not a pussy. should we stream minecraft or something. and his bestie liech is like ok! whats minecraft

im still trying to figure out how to fit in femboy streamer poland (<- literally a thing he does in canon) since he's probably almost 30 and not a fun character to write for anyway but his presence feels necessary

so ya im still working through how this comes together but im excited to plan the fan response (if any) and then the swift downfall. the bit is that everyone they get involved has little to no technology know-how or otherwise their sense of pop culture is outdated. ideally they will end up giving their kind a worse image than before and get targetted for being cringe

most of my time so far has been spent researching like...... liechtenstein political history or cantonese slang or southeast asian historical relations. such is the danger of hetalia related wiki rabbit holes. thres a lot of ground im trying to cover and i want everything to be believable enough. ive read a lot of shitty heta fics in my time and i refuse to commit common mistakes

im also obsessed w using mostly minor characters while avoiding too many major ones. hetalia has so so so so so so many canonized characters and all of them are incredibly interesting. there's a lot of dynamics that can be mined for gold. and ppl like to focus on like ... 12? 12 of them. not in my house tho i wanna talk about some real obscure guys. america gets to be there tho bcz he's my number one best boy forever

next chapter im trying to introduce molossia to the main cast because Again . Incredibly underutilized guy. my son, even
