Just curious what the fandom thinks of the status of nations having kids, be it with other nations or with humans, and as it should be implied, this is in the context of a Standard Nationverse world, no human AUs or omegaverse or anything else as those are separate cases

why do u think that turkey in hetalia wears a mask? (yeah I know I joked about it being a jojo reference cuz there's a city in turkey called kars and the villain kars from jojo has a stone mask, it looks much different from turkey's)
but for real
some say it's to cover up a scar, but he doesn't seem to have any scars?
maybe it's to appear cool and to be recognizable? to appear mysterious?
or maybe, in the past, he was very war-like, and in battle, he'd cover his eyes so his enemies wouldn't see his eye movements and thus, they'd be unable to predict what he'd do?
is it some sort of an anime trope?
orrrrr himaruya simply heard something about atatürk's mask, a monument in turkey that commemorates the founder/first president of the turkish republic but had no idea what the monument actually was and thought "ok I'ma give this character a mask" maybe hima's original idea was "the character's mask represents the monument" or "it was a gift" but later forgot that idea and drew the character with the mask during ottoman times cuz he began associating turkey with the mask

So, what are the Male Nyotalia counterparts supposed to be like?
Tumblr media
I'm aware that canonically, the Nyotalia counterparts are pretty much irrelevant to the series and were probably made for fun, but this has been bugging me for a while.
So, canonically, the female Nyos have personalities that are separate from their male counterparts. For example, Nyo!England is a "Kuudere" instead of a "Tsundere", Nyo!Russia is "emotionally unstable" instead of "childishly cruel", Nyo!France is more argumentative and protective of Canada, and Nyo!China is supposedly more difficult to read emotionally than China.
Female Nyos are also "stronger than their male counterparts." Nyo!Italy, Nyo!Romano, Nyo!America and Nyo!Germany are all total badasses and, according to Hima, "Hetalia with female Italy would not exist because she would keep beating everyone up."
We have all this info about the girls, but...what about the guys?
Tumblr media
All we have are the canon designs, but no info on their personalities.
So I've been theorizing a bit. Let's say that the Nyos, regardless of gender, are meant to be stronger than their counterparts. With that in mind, would that make Nyo!Wy less of a Tsundere, or make Nyo!Belgium less insecure about his looks? With the way Hima writes his female characters, who are generally meant to be stronger than his male characters, this wouldn't make much sense.
I think a more likely theory is that the male Nyos are actually weaker and/or more soft-spoken in comparison to their female counterparts. I like to imagine that their personalities are like that of the first drafts of the original female characters (which would make sense in Nyo!Hungary's case since Hungary was originally going to be male and a pervert). But outside of that, perhaps Nyo!Belgium is all happy-go-lucky to compensate for low self-esteem? Is Nyo!Wy is a bit more aggressive and headstrong but secretly lonely (kinda like Ladonia)? Maybe Nyo!Belarus is more of a shy, mild-mannered Tsundere who mutters under his breath like how Belarus was originally meant to.
With that idea in mind, what do you guys think the Nyo!Guys' personalities would be like? I'm more than happy to hear your ideas, so please feel free to share(^-^)
Update: I forgot to include Nyo!Monaco, turns out he actually has a personality (against all odds😅).
Tumblr media
"He's said to be strong, a gourmet, and enjoy driving, but he's rather bad at gambling despite the prevalence of casinos in Monaco. He owns a Japanese-style garden and has a weird, but good relationship with France, despite the one fight that they had (two days after the fight he said "It’s no good without big brother France" and they seem to have made up.) Oddly enough, the France he was depicted with, and as having an odd relationship with, was male France.
He was originally under Spain's protection, eventually wound up with France, then Italy, and then finally gained his independence with France's help, though he leans toward France nowadays." -Hetalia Archives
We can see here that Nyo!Monaco, while being considered "pretty strong", is still a lot more meek and soft-spoken compared to his female counterpart. Versus Monaco herself, who makes it abundantly clear from the moment you meet her that she bends backward for no one.
Thanks for further supporting my theory, HetaArchives.
This is also proof that the Nyos canonically coexist with their counterparts (other than Hima not specifying whether it was Canada or his Nyo that Nyo!France is protective of).

so like,, assuming that EVERY country/nation/city/province/state/human settlement has some personification, there must be LOADS of these immortal guys running around in the nationverse
Imagine the humans having forums and theories where they try to find every personification of a place, suspecting people n everything.
idk it’s just something I think about

Headcanon as to why the UK bros can all use magic despite it heing a very unusual trait among nation people: the Arthurian legends are true. Albion is still the land where the Once and Future King sleeps, waiting to be awoken at the end of the world. So, even if the people themselves have forgotten the old religion and the magic they once knew, their national personifications will never lose their connection to it.
Also Merlin* is still alive, still the greatest wizard to ever live, and still a total troll. Personal headcanon that a nation always knows where all their people are and can find them if they want to, but Merlin is the exception. He wanders around Britain, in and out of the fae realm, and gives the fab four the slip. Wales can sometimes get close (being the land of Myrddin’s birth) but even his gaze can’t hold the wizard for long. No one finds Merlin unless Merlin wants them to. Very frustrating for a nation to have one of their people do that, but it’s Merlin so deal wit it
Speaking of Merlin, he’s the one who gave England his human name. Third headcanon that nations are given their human names by their greatest residents. The other UK bros were named by different people, but Merlin gave England his king’s name. Which makes England one of the only nations to be named after someone. Hundreds of years later and he still can’t decide if it’s something to be proud of or just embarrassing
(*I’m 100% picturing BBC’s Merlin btw because that version = *chef’s kiss* And he has the perfect trolly nature for this stuff too)

Ladies and gentlemen i present you Thessaloniki on her Byzantine era✨. And Herakles(as Byzantine empire ofc). Thessaloniki was a really important city in eastern roman empire, the second most important city actually. The first one was obviously Constantinople. And held so much power that she was referred as Symvasilevousa,(co-regnant). Btw i imagine her having a sister-brother relationship with herakles other than city-country relationship? Also the clothes are from the 14th century. And i was bored to finish Herakles on the first pic,i admit😔

How Many Ships & Trios exist within Hetalia?
Howdy everyone!
As we all know as Hetalians, shipping is a key part of fandom space, with many of the most famed writers and artists in the fandom being known for their ships!
And as we know, there are many many ships, sometimes it seems like an endless number of them! However, there are a very finite amount of characters in Hetalia, and only so many ways you can arrange any set of characters in a duo or trio.
This of course naturally raises the question, how many ships can possibly exist within the fandom? 50? 100? 250?
That there, my guys gals and enby pals is what this post hopes to answer!
The key to answering this equation without manually listing every possible ship is a little known thing called the Combination Equation. What is the Combination Equation?
Tumblr media
It is this beauty! Now, for those of yall who aren't familiar with Combinations and Permutations, this may seem like some complex abomination. But in reality, it is a very simple equation!
To explain it, imagine you have 6 fruits - an apple, orange, pear, grapes, kiwi, and banana - in total but can only fit 2 into you lunch bag. How many Combinations of fruit can you have? Rather than manually calculating it by counting every single combination, you can just use the equation!
You have 4 fruits, so you put n = 6, as n is just how many of whatever you have, be that fruits or Hetalia Nendoroids. Next, because you only have enough room for 2 fruits, you put r = 2, as r just means the size of your combination groups, be it space for fruits or how many Nendoroid stands you have. Then you just put it in a calculator and hurrah! You have 15 possible combinations of fruit! It is also very important to note that the difference between Combinations and Permutations is if order is important; Combinations view ABC, ACB, and BCA as all the same, while Permutations view all three as seprate.
Now we understand the basic math, we can move onto the core question: How can we use this to find how many possible Hetalia ships are there?
Well to begin with, we need to figure out our n value, which in this case is just how many characters are in all of Hetalia! Well, almost. In Hetalia, if we include only canonical characters and only those that are 1pHetalia ones, we have a total of 71 Characters. However, 8 of those character, meaning we really end up with 63 characters! So our n = 63!
Now for the r value, to start, we will just say r = 2 to represent ever 1x1 ship!
But before we can put it all in, we need to add one thing: - s. Why? Well, because at the moment we have one issue, that being this equation has ALL possible ships, which also means it includes less savory ones. However, we don't want to remove one character and their dozens of ships over just a single unsavory one, so we can set s to equal however many ships we wish to disregard. In this case, I will set it to s = 6, meaning 6 will be removed from the final total.
So what number do we get from this?
Tumblr media
DRUM ROLL PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEE
Tumblr media
ONE THOUSAND EIGHT HUNDRED AND EIGHTY FIVE!
Meaning, if we set ourselves to 1pHeta and 1x1 ships, there are 1,885 ships! That's a lot You have to admit, but l can't help feel that's a bit small, and that's largely because we put on very strict restrictions; So how about we try some more generous ones?
To start with, how about we double our n value so instead n = 62, we set it to n = 124! Afterall, Nyotalia or 2ptalia are very common in the fandom, so how about we account for them in our ships as well? Doing so, and setting s = 12 to account for the doubling, we wind up with this equation
Tumblr media
And from this we get...
Tumblr media
7,614! Now that's a hell of a jump I'd say! Certainly, our 1x1 shippers out there will have no shortage of ships for a long long time!
But what about our polyamorous and trio loving friends? Fear not, you have not been forgotten, as by changing r from r = 2 to r = 3, even with just the original n = 62, while leaving s = 12 just to be safe, this will undoubtably make a difference as our equation now looks like such
Tumblr media
And how many lovely polyamorous loves and bff trios are we rewarded with?
Tumblr media
Even more than before at 37,808 trios! It really goes to show there will never be any shortage of ships or trios for a long long time, and that if you pick any three characters at random, chances are you'll have a trio no one has ever made before, that's crazy!
Now, how about we break this?
If we multiply 62 by four, we get n = 248, accounting for every single 1pHetalia, 1pNyotalia, 2pHetalia, and 2pNyoCharacter based off canon ones that exist, a truly massive number. To show some mercy, let is return to r = 2 and double s to s = 24, which seems like a very harsh restriction and gives us the equation of
Tumblr media
So what do we get from this equation?
Tumblr media
...well that wasn't supposed to happen, lets see if we can figure out what went wrong
248 - 2 = 246, and since its a factorial, lets plug it into another site to see what we get from this
Tumblr media
Ah, well them... Perhaps Scientific Notation will be able to clarify this?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Well no wonder Desmos broke, at *10^482, that's a number bigger than the amount of atoms in the universe - quite literally, as its estimated there are 10^80 atoms in the universe, not even a fifth as big as the number we got as the total number of atoms in the universe vs 246! is 16.598%, or in otherwords, if ever atom in the universe was a number from 1 to 246!, you would only get 16.598% of the way there before you ran out of atoms.
Its crazy to think our little fandom can literally create something bigger than the number of atoms in the universe! And, if you want to toy around with possibly universe breaking numbers, or something more mundane just like how many lesbian ships exist in Hetalia or how many European squads there are, I present to you: The Hetalia Fandom Ship Calculator
Tumblr media
Entirely free for anyone to use, just follow all the attached note info, and use it as you please to learn as much as your heart desires!
But for now my lovely guys and gals and enby pals, I must go, I promise to return soon, and until then, drink some water, get some food and rest, and have a most lovely of days!

y’know, I’ve always wondered something about aph bulgaria
like
when was he born? was he born in the 7th century, or was he born in the 9th-10th century when slavs and bulgars mixed? does he look like the bulgars? or like modern-day bulgarians?
1. was he born during the 7th century? if so, old great bulgaria would be his father, volga bulgaria would be his brother. did he speak bulgar language, did he use to live in a yurt, did he use to praise tangra? did he forget his original language, did he start speaking slavic as bulgars got assimilated by the slavs, thus becoming a slav?
2. or was he born from the union of bulgars and slavs in the 9th-10th century? then, he’d be a slav & a christian throughout his entire life. perhaps there was another representative/avatar of the bulgar khaganate on the danube before him who was the descendant of old great bulgaria and who is also his parent (the avatar of a slavic tribe would be his other parent), this would make old great bulgaria his grandpa and volga bulgaria his uncle
3. or was he a random slav who simply inherited the name bulgaria from the original representative/avatar of the bulgar khaganate who’s also the descendant of old great bulgaria? then, he wouldn’t biologically descend from the bulgar family, he’d only have some sort of a spiritual connection (like being adoptive) which kinda makes sense if you look at genetics (bulgars were eurasian nomads while modern-day bulgarians are europeans with ~2% asian ancestry, >40% of bulgarian ancestry is slavic and >40% is balkan, bulgars weren’t numerous, their language disappeared, leaving not more than a dozen of words in modern bulgarian, there are barely any traces of their culture)
4. or he popped out of nothing once the bulgarian ethnicity appeared after all the slavs and the bulgars had mixed, like he has no biological mom or dad
if theory 1. is correct, then wouldn’t bulgaria stand out among today’s bulgarians? will he feel like a foreigner in his own country whenever he remembers his childhood? or maybe he’s forgotten ever being bulgar
if 2, 3 or 4 is correct, then he wouldn’t stand out and wouldn’t feel like that

What do you think about hima's announcement on twitter 👀
You mean this, right?
Tumblr media
I don't often check Twitter and your ask was the first hint I got today that something was going on today with Hima's account xD
I'm quite curious to know what this is about!! 👀 Hima has always enjoyed the concept of AUs, so it's nice to see him do something with it again after many years :3 I wonder if this new spin-off thingy will be, conceptually, an evolution of 2pTalia. I think it'd make sense considering Hima surely knows 2pTalia is a thing in the fandom, despite having canonically no relevance so far and they only appeared once in a series of chibi artworks on his old blog. Maybe their personality will be akin to the 2Ps, which in this sense have been completely fanon until now. Also wondering which characters will appear besides the Main8, if any!! :O
Oh btw!! BIG5 caught my attention. What does it refer to..? Like, I've seen it can refer to multiple things ... An interesting one I found though, is that 'Big Five' is a concept associated with a personality trait theory that, among its fields of study, also focus on the possibility that the Country/Culture you grow up in influences your personality (hence certain Countries would score higher on the 'extroverted' trait than others, for instance). Given how Hetalia is about Personified Countries and this new AU deals with the concept of characters having a different personality than the ones we're used to, I guess this might be the thing Himaruya was referring to in that speech bubble, but I guess it's too early to say.
Can't wait for the 8th and see what it is!! <3

I really want to know more about your headcanons about magic and the supernatural aspects of hws if I can bother you for them! (draw-a-circle-thats-the-compass)
I tend to treat the nations as a sort of go-between for humans and mythical creatures.
Nations, as a concept, are made up by humans. At the end of the day the land is just land. Linguistic and cultural communities are fluid and move around and exchange information naturally without a need for borders and nationality. A country has no more tangibility in the real world than a mermaid or a dragon. The difference is that unlike mermaids, who are usually relegated to children's books, humans have a habit of trying to enforce nationality through structure - they write laws that they enforce with police and militaries, they draw lines on maps, and distribute resources and violence based on who they've arbitrarily decided is or isn't a citizen.
So in Hetalia, in a world where fairies are real, and every country has its own representation, the nations have been forced into a sort of liminal space between the tangible and the mystical. And where each individual nation falls in that space differs.
While all nations are somewhat supernatural, some nations, the ones we see use magic and interact with mythical creatures in canon, have leaned into that mysticism to the point that they take on aspects of their culture's mythology. Vlad has little vampire fangs because he is a vampire. Arthur's love for the sea and sailing is a result of the fact that he and his brother are all part selkie. Of course, Emil would never acknowledge publicly that he can see magical creatures, he's a huldufólk, it only makes sense to hide his more mythic qualities.
Other nations have adjusted over the years to be a little more human in nature. Even Jack's more supernatural abilities are mostly just a case study in why immortals shouldn't be left alone on an island full of poisonous animals, and if the good neighbors show up on occasion that's really none of his business. Feliciano loves Roman mythology because it reminds him of his grandpa, but at the end of the day, he's a good catholic boy who happens to run at inhuman speeds.
Some nations *cough* Alfred *cough* are in some pretty serious denial about just how supernatural they really are, and if they're just a little too strong even by nation standards, or if the corn in a field parts for them to walk by it, then thats just gods gift to them and there's no reason to question that at all is there?
I also think mythical creatures existing canonically in Hetalia is really interesting because presumably, they all live longer than humans. Even the nations that fall on the more human side of things probably have some sort of relationship with their culture's mythological creatures (except for Alfred who is far too rational to acknowledge the things he can see with his own damn eyes) because those creatures will have a life span much more similar to their own. Building relationships with the supernatural hurts less, there is less of a deadline involved, and a friendship with a supernatural being is something a nation might actually be able to rely on long-term even when they don't have other countries around to support them.
