(Summer Study Challenge) 8/1/2020: Worst thing about the beach?
The sand! Hehehe... sometimes it’s nice, but not when it sticks to you! Also that feeling of when you’re trying to sleep at the hotel later that night but your body still feels like it’s out on the waves, like you’re bobbing up and down. Could do without those...
Made an incredibly cheeky run to B&N today - and I think I audibly said “Oh my God they have it” when I saw This is Shakespeare. This one’s been on my list for a while. I’ve been needing something to read before bed, so I think the Carroll or the More will do nicely. Those have also been on my list for a while! I added that Middle Ages book because I’ve been needing to get a refresher on my medieval history. Hopefully I’ll learn a few things when reading too!
Oh, yeah, it’s also August! Where did all that time go? We made it eight months in this wild year and I love you all.

since i still can’t go other places to study, being productive has become a game of finding how many different study spaces i can find around my house. the natural light here is one of my favorites!!
how does summer feel in your region? yesterday it reached 114°F (45.5°C) where I live & i feel like that sums up the general summer pretty well, unfortunately
hope you’re all having a good day/night, wherever you are in the world ✨

I’ve been struggling with finding a balance between not burning myself out & not feeling gross at the end of the day after getting nothing done. It’s a lot of reminders that taking time for myself is okay - but also that I genuinely enjoy learning new things, and getting to-do items checked off is beneficial in the long run. Not quite sure if I’ve found that perfect balance yet, but the sky remains gorgeous and there’s plenty of time to figure it out.
hope you’re all having a good day/night, wherever you are in the world ✨

(Summer Study Challenge) 7/31/2020: What do you like most about the beach?
There was a moment from James Graham’s play This House that summed it up so well, in such a haunting way, but it’s all I can think of whenever I go to the beach: (I can’t find the exact quote but it was something to the effect of) the sound of the waves is the sound of breathing. In and out. Inhale and exhale. It’s the sound of our own mortality. Being swept out to sea.
I think I feel this way particularly when I’m somewhere along the Pacific Ocean, looking out onto the blue, it feels a bit like I’m at the end of the earth. As eerie as that might sound, it’s actually one of my favorite feelings in the world.
Poetic feelings aside, I’ve decided to be a bit cheeky and pick up some dinner tonight because it’s Friday and I didn’t feel like cooking. I’ve also gotta finish writing this RPG campaign episode - my friend @somthingcleveridk introduced @punk-isnt-dead and me to Monster of the Week and after playing one episode, I decided that I wanted to try writing my own. It may be brilliant. It may be a disaster. We’ll see on Sunday, won’t we? Regardless of the result, it’s been a great way to get me back into the writing spirit. It involves piecing a lot of popular culture into something that makes coherent sense, which is actually a great way to write something, I’ve learned.
🎶 : “Battle! Steven Stone” - (from Pokémon Masters), I gotta get into the RPG spirit, don’t I? (also Steven is probably my favorite character in that universe now sheerly because of that new event that came out yesterday hehehe)

tuesday 25th august
so, i’m back! results day was a whirlwind, in a good way, of friends and drinks and late nights. i say nights because it’s been nearly two weeks and i am just now starting to get a grip again on routines that don’t involve coming home in the morning.
started this morning with journaling, yoga, and reading as i lay dying. i’ve been trying to read more because i’m considering applying to cambridge during my gap year. i figured if i have the chance then why not? their english lit course does look amazing and i’m confident now i have my grades that i would be able to get my place at manchester again.

(Summer Study Challenge) 8/3/2020: Ultimate Summertime Song?
What is summer without a little Rock Lobster? My brother recently reintroduced me to that song and he doesn’t strike me as the type of person who would listen to that song, but here we are.
So my favorite opera ever - The Rake’s Progress - is up on the Glyndebourne YouTube channel this week, and I was just reminded why this is my favorite opera of all time. As much as I go off about Mozart’s Così Fan Tutte, The Rake’s Progress is truly an opera for the emotional thrill seeker. Every one of W.H. Auden’s words is rich and decadent and really brings these rather flat, parable type characters to life in a very profound way. (If that makes any sense?)
I finally figured out my schedule today too. Thank you so much to everyone who gave me some advice on that post. I settled on taking a 400 level English course from a professor I’ve had in the past and really liked! I’m taking two Honors seminars in this semester as is, so the graduate course might have been overdoing it. School is coming up very fast! I’m so excited to be posting more relevant content on here hehehe.

(Summer Study Challenge) 8/2/2020: Song of the summer?
Hmm... this is a hard one! For me, I think it’s “I Love My Friends” by Foster the People. I’ve really been getting into their music this summer. I think I blame it on the fact that I had to make a playlist to listen to in the car when I had other people in the car and we couldn’t listen to my opera music hehehe. I think Sacred Hearts Club is my favorite album of theirs, so there are some others on that album that are close seconds.
I started a bullet journal today! This year I’m actually going to focus on myself! (Haha shocker!) Saying it now so I can put it into existence. I’m trying to treat doing this as time to myself instead of having to worry about school work. In the past it was sort of like ‘I need to make a planner for this week and I gotta do it myself, which is exhausting and just one more thing I need to do”. I have to work on priorities that have to do with me versus priorities that have to do with school, and then work on separating them and valuing them equally. (Oh, and catch me using a level as a ruler hehehe).
I’m really liking how these pages turned out so far! I think I want to put more pictures of classical statues in my journal because it just really spices things up. I don’t have any more though... I’ll have to wait until I have access to a color printer.

(Summer Study Challenge) 8/4/2020: What is your favorite summertime movie?
High School Musical 2 - what a film. I have vivid memories of eight year old me playing this soundtrack on a Spongebob radio in our basement in Kansas once school got out. Is there honestly a more iconic soundtrack from a film to date? I think not.
Picked up my pencil to do some drawing. I’m really happy with how this turned out! I only draw things once in a blue moon because most of the time, I’m not very good at it. I have to really focus for something to look decent! Yes, that is Professor Sycamore in a turtleneck. My brain went ‘let’s draw the Pokémon professors in clothing that I would buy’ and here we are.
I’m trying to rest my brain before this wicked semester I have ahead of me. Two honors seminars is more than I’ve ever done before - so I have no idea how this is going to turn out. It might be fine - but is also might be awful! Honors classes have been the only classes that have really pushed me at university, and while I’ve managed to get A’s in the one’s I’ve taken so far, I felt like I really had to work for them! I’ve got one over Sex, Race, and Victorian Science (which I have a tiny amount of background in from having one of my favorite professors study Victorian adventure fiction), and the other one is called The Pedagogical Experiment! It sounds like we’re going to be creating our own assignments in that class. There are three professors who are teaching it and six students in the class. Thankfully, one of the professors has some background in Shakespeare - so I think it’ll go well. Crossing my fingers!
🎶 : “Driftveil City” - (from Pokémon Black and White) -aka I’m living in my childhood this summer apparently + gen 5 kinda went off on the OST)

(Summer Study Challenge) 7/30/2020: Beach or swimming pool?
I think I’m gonna have to go with neither on this? Hehehe... Possibly beach? Definitely not swimming pool. I was a competitive swimmer from ages 6-18, so most times that I would have to be at a swimming pool, it was five or six in the morning. Our coaches gave us hard sets... You know the Olympic breaststroker Katie Meili? She was on our team when she was younger, and sometimes she still swam with us! Sometimes in my lane? That was club swimming. High school swimming was its own other beast. We were (kinda still are) the best team in the state of Texas, so there were a lot of good swimmers on my team. (I was not one of them, don’t you worry hehehe). So the anime Free! was my life for twelve years. I do enjoy swimming, it just makes me all tense hehehe.
Sometimes I find the beach a little boring. The last time I went to the beach was two years ago - we went to Hawaii for a family vacation just before I went off to my first year at university. As much as I love Hawaii, it was miserably hot when we went. It all just came up in my snap memories and I could feel the heat just from looking at the photos.
Thought I would post some pictures from my scrapbook today because I’ve had a lot of fun working on this! I got a polaroid camera for my birthday last May and it’s been so nice to take polaroids of my own without having to ask my friend @somthingcleveridk to do it on her camera. I need more things to put on that page with all the pop culture photos, but I’m working on it. Also, enjoy some pictures of my dog, Hudson. I decided to put those photos on the fridge after taking these photos, so I can see him every day.

Thanks for the ask Willow (I got your pt 2 and it’s totally fine!! 🤗💕)
I wear glasses but like only at school and at home just because I don’t really like wearing them. I got them in year 11 ( I was 15) and the optician was quite shocked at how long I’d gone without glasses considering how bad my vision apparently is 😂😭
I wouldn’t call myself an athlete but I do athletics (100m and high jump) and I play rugby. Funnily enough this is the least amount of sports I’ve ever played at a time normally it’s around 3 or more 😂
I can roller blade, roller skate, ice skate and ride a bike but I can’t skateboard (with a classic skateboard) I don’t know how to turn lmaoooo 💀😭
Omg someone else gave me this same ask but I accidentally deleted it so I’m sorry to whoever that was (you weren’t anon) <3 I’ll answer it now on here:
I was born in the Netherlands and lived there for 8 years
I’ve only worn acrylics once in my life and I want to get them again alreaaadyyyy
I can no longer jump off of swings like I used to because a really weird, semi-painful shockwave (best way to describe this sensation lmao) now travels up my legs if I do 😂😭
