The next few days Miguel planned intensely for the showcase he needed everything to be perfect, he even bought a nice new suit for himself. hellooo!! I just wanted to drop by here ask a question about chapter 20 and just about the fic overall. Idk if anyone asked already so feel free to ignore it if you have answered it!

But usually whenever I wait for updates, i re-read the whole fic from the start, bc i like suffering and creating fake scenarios as i go :)) but i noticed a "pattern" and it had something to do with the number 7? 👀 idk if thats just me looking into it too deeply or its just coincidence.

But the first time was when eddie asked buck if he can come around 7 and buck says thats too early (i think, if i remember correctly.) The 2nd time is when buck schedule's an appntmnt with the lawyer and he says: "Seven's perfect."

And the last one is from the recent chapter: "Seven is perfect, truly. He means it."

Am I just delulu or there's meaning 👀 LOL

Anyways, sorry that was long but truly thank you for writing this fic and capturing very well buck's journey and his depression. Its really rare for me to find these kinds of fics that actually touch upon it quiet well and write it SO GOOD. Thank you!!

Hello! No worries, no one's asked about this particular rabbit hole before. When it comes to the number 7, I think there is a pattern but it's mostly due to logistical reasons? Such as the weather and the station's roster, so we can have certain scenes as they are.

For example, I wanted the appointment with the estate lawyer to be at 7AM because sunrise in LA is usually around the 6-7AM window so we could have that moment of Buck driving with the Jeep's top down.

For the bit where Eddie picks up the board games and his things from the loft at 7PM, it's implied they had a shift that started at 6AM. So if it's a 10-hour shift it ends at 4PM and if it's a 12-hour one it ends at 6PM, which basically means Eddie just gets his stuff the night of his request as to not delay things, mostly for Christopher's sake but also for him to have the privacy to apologise for cornerning Buck at the Wilsons' since he can't talk about the incident openly at the firehouse without causing drama.

I like having their shifts start at either 6, 9, or 12 be it AM or PM, whether it's a 10, 12, 24, or 48-hour one. Those are the most standard slots, granted they can request additional or lesser hours as well, though it's unlikely department policies will allow them to work more than 48 hours in one go for safety reasons. This typical roster is mainly for convenience and it's pretty realistic from what I gather from the show, since this way they can go home at a reasonable time to enjoy a 7AM breakfast or a 7PM dinner whilst off duty. It's how we're able to have dinner scenes with Eddie and Chris or the one with Maddie across video chat.

I welcome all speculations no matter how delulu, those are usually fun anyway, and honestly this isn't that. The number 7 does show up more than a few times to be noticeable, which is understandably enough to garner curiosity, and while there isn't a particularly symbolic meaning behind it there's definitely an intentional reason for its presence, and the above explanation is more or less why.

DING DING you are the winner of my blue submarine no 6 rant!!

For context: blue sub no 6 is a 4 part OVA from the nineties about a post apocalyptic world that was intentionally flooded by an evil scientist, leaving the vast majority of humanity dead and the rest living the best they can on the water. It kind of sucks? I am now obsessed with it. No one will know what the fuck I’m talking about.

Because there is only this OVA and an untranslated manga from 1967 that I can’t track down, another 5 part manga from the 90s that i dont think was translated either, and two untranslated video games, I am forced to scrounge the bottom of the barrel from fucking reddit for any sort of discussion. The following is my response to those overwhelmingly negative reactions.

All of the characters get criticized as shallow, which to some degree I can agree with because it is a short series (about 2 hours) with a lot of characters, but I think a lot of it is just a blatant refusal to engage with them in any meaningful way. Hayami isn’t a jaded asshole just bc his friend died, he’s a jaded asshole bc his trigger happy impulses directly led to his friend’s death! Because he’s actually a super sensitive and compassionate man as shown in the series even when he doesn’t want to be!! He’s an addict who has to self medicate to ease the pain because he cares SO MUCH. And a lot of blue sub’s characterization and world building is subtle, not a lot is really told to you. It has these beautiful moments of silence that just show you character and worldbuilding, which people hate bc I guess it confuses them? Did they pay attention?? And yes a lot of the other characters dont really get a lot of depth, but they still feel like real people in the little moments you get with them. It feels like a fleshed out world with real dynamics and real people that you were just dropped in the middle of, which many won’t like, but I think its better than spoonfeeding you every bit of information.

People also shit on the ending, which I get it is actually not an ending. It’s a very open ended end with really no conclusion. I think that fits with the uncertainty of humanity going forward in this world. There’s also a lot of criticism of the villain, who unfortunately is the the weakest part of the show when he should be the strongest, but I think a lot of this is bc of the above reasons. He’s an ecofascist who thinks that there were too many people on earth so he sped up global warming and flooded the majority of the world. Idk, maybe that hits closer to home now than it did in the 90s, but real communities are threatened by the sea and there are very real perpetrators of climate violence. His motivation is weak and kind of non existent- which is a fault of the story, but also like. what actual reason is there to justify something like this other than he was a rich powerful guy who could? Again, maybe it’s just because I’m looking at it in a very modern lens and reading too much into it (I surely am), but there’s a reason it doesn’t really bother me.

I’m gonna stop here before I explode. I dont think i can in good conscience really recommend it to anyone? but if someone does watch please tell me please

to kick things off i need to establish our base here. here is the post i’d get stapled to my forehead, it has headcanons i full heartedly love and agree with.

okay with that out of the way, i still agree with my tags. he’d definitely still talk about cases with mc, especially if she needed it, but he’d be trying so hard not to slip back into full time Work Partner Mode. whenever he does though mc’s just like. 

mc: artem. you’re doing it again.

artem bent over his tablet at 2am doing some kind of intense research for the case mc’s on: Doing What.

mc:

artem: Oh.

moving onto the smaller headcanons. love the idea of mc coming home to artem working on something with a completely serious expression. his hair is tied up into multiple tiny ponytails. he has an embarrassing little crown on. so does the kid. it’s environmental storytelling. mc bends over crying laughing at the sheer contrast.

artem writing a disgruntled mockingbird review of the movie his kid has been watching on repeat for the last two weeks. please help him. 

artem’s the kinda guy to spend several hours researching the tiniest thing. i mean this. he will look into everything. he will try to figure out the best method for everything. being a stay at home dad would probably cause him to loosen up a bit tho and let experience be a teacher. he’s good with kids, and that helps of course, but dealing with your own kid is a whole other rodeo.

idk what time mc's work day and the kid's school day would start, but if they're around the same time, he'd probably take the opportunity to drop them both off. hey. he likes driving. this is good for him.

you know artem’s preparing his kid’s school lunch. he literally handles mc’s lunch in canon. this is carrying over. you also know this kid and their lunch would be the envy of the cafeteria.

since “lazybug” is also an established thing, i’m carrying that over as well. he is canonically the kind of guy to say this shit and that would definitely apply when talking to his kid.

when the kid is older and they do something bad, artem would shift into his default T_T mode to deal with it. when this happens, the kid KNOWS they fucked up and honestly it’s even worse than any sort of yelling. something something i’m not mad, just disappointed.

ok, hopping back to the kid being younger bc this one requires it, but mc would make use of her ability to work at home as often as she can (something themis apparently allows, as seen in artem’s personal story 4) just so she can also spend time with her family. these are also the days artem is the worst at trying to avoid shifting back into Work Partner Mode. he sees mc thinking hard about something, and his workaholic ass is just vibrating in his fucking seat

on days where mc goes into the office, or is dealing with field work, she and artem will try to video call during lunch to chat. artem uses this time to let the kid say hi too.

the idea of mc being stuck in a meeting, but then like, getting a text from artem that their kid is walking is so funny to me. he says he’s recording it, and is like quick, if you’re able i can video call you and mc is like. Ahem. celestine can i be excused for a moment. and celestine is like. sure, why? and mc is like. [insert name here] is walking- and celestine is just like WHAT!! GO LOL

later that night mc is mildly bitter bc of course the kid walks the day she doesn't work from home. of course. OF COURSE.
