Idolizeing and dealing with disappointment and sense of trickery

I needed to vent something that's been on my mind the last few days. Since most of you here are part of fandoms and know what it's like to idolize something, someone or some people a lot I think you can kinda get it.

Some ~10 years ago I was really into a band. This wasn't new, since I've been into bands, fandoms and music very deeply since I was like 11 (you can read earlier posts about The Ark, for example), but this came to be very important. Together with a friend of mine we travelled around to a lot of gigs, bought all the records, discussed the lyrics and listened to their podcast all the time. Talking to the guys after gigs was the higlight and got us all giggly like teenagers, even tough we were 20+. The band quit after only a couple of years and we moved on. It was a wonderful time though, and I used to remember it with a lot of joy. That is, until this winter.

I got a massage from that friend, who in her turn had got a message from an old friend on Instagram, warning us about the singer in said band. He'd been arrested for abusing his girlfriend in their home. A few months later the verdict fell and ge was found guilty. It wasn't the first time it happened to her, and also several exes have come forward and witnessed about similar behaviour.

How do you deal with this? This was a person I really looked up to, idolized and adored for his amazing lyrics and songs. Now I just feel..drirty. All the lyrics lost their meaning and I feel like I was cheated on for years. I've thrown away all the records, posters, autografs, deleted all the photos and posts on soc-med. But it still doesn't feel enough. I feel kinda..scared? Like I can't trust my judgement, if you get what I mean. I know, it's probably a bit of an overreaction, but I really don't know what to do...

Ok update on the bar guy:

So I followed him last night on instagram and I think he accepted and followed me back almost right away. I accepted him today a couple of hours ago. He has a lot of higlights on his ig which is well idk.. cus why do u as a man have so many highlights. anywayss he's hot lol. He also has his snap in one highlight but I dont want to add him.. bcs that would just be too desperate.. but yk damn well I'm desperate so I probably will add him soon!! Just kinda giving him the chance to add me bcs my snap is in my ig bio. I wanna kms because of this but oh welll :)))

instagram and tiktok have always been so unhealthy for me because i'm constantly scrubbing and polishing my accounts to portray a desirable image. whether that's how my feed looks, my following ratios, my higlights, etc. AHHHHH
