I do say, I love the off-hand implication that Byakuren's main thought of Satori is as "Koishi's big sister", in a direct reversal of how most people only recognize Koishi as "Satori's little sister".

Well. That might already have changed somewhat since SoPM when it was mentioned, since Koishi shows up above ground a fair bit while Satori very notably doesn't. Depends on how well her ability to make people not remember her still actually functions.

random shipping related thoughts bouncing in my head since yesterday: i have mainly three romantic ships for byakuren that i regularly think about and am fond of. But they're not at all 'balanced' because one is shou which I find really compelling because of all the potential for long history between the two and their respective thematic yet unique conflicting feelings on their roles as a monk and an avatar of bishamonten respectively Wagh!. I can make myself really emotional if i spend a quiet time thinking about them....

But then another ship is byakuren/nue mostly because i think its funny 😄🎉 it just Feels like byakuren/nue should be a classic, and granted it's genuinely compelling to me on paper, what with the head priest who attempts to be all righteous and stuff, and the monstrous ancient youkai who bums around at the temple and doesnt even pretend to care about buddhism but likes everyone there anyway. It just makes me laugh to think about.

the third is byakuren/joon. Like when you the one uptight religious character trying to mend the dispicably greedy rich girl, then no matter who develops feelings first, it's just funny and also wonderfully pathetic (Said with full affection) on either of their parts 😊

#though some fans like to have byakuren fill some kind alternate big sister role to joon. #and while that is a funny idea in of itself I don't personally go for it obviously since i prefer leaning more romantic #touhou #hijiri byakuren

How far back do you think the urbanization of Makai goes? Based on what we see in Mystic Square and UFO - tourist agencies, modern skyscrapers in the capital and in the supposedly very rural area where Byakuren was, the hologram scroll she built with Makai tech, Marisa visiting a souvenir stand, etc. - it seems to mirror either our modern day or near future. But it’s a magical alternate dimension and all, so there’s no reason to think it must have followed the same development patterns - perhaps it was already pretty developed even back in the 10th century?

Imagine being Byakuren, sent to what you’re told is a tormentous world of devils ruled by an evil goddess, to be tortured forever

and then it turns out that you’re actually sealed in, like... 1920s New York.

Here’s the UFO bosses spread. When doing this drawings, I tend to do it with markers, but this time i did it with watercolor pencils. Tbf, I do like how it came out, but it was a huge pain in the ass to use the pencils. I’m only planing on to getting watercolor tubes or pan next time because i reached my limit with this
