In your Johanna abuse post, is there a reason why Johanna abuses Hilda at all? (I use the term abuse here loosely because I haven’t read the tie in novels yet-)
Not really - the novels mostly treat Novel Johanna's actions as normal in a way that makes me think the author (Stephen Davies) thinks that they are. There is one line that imples Novel Johanna's own parents were strict, but it's not treated with any kind of weight; it feels like the author just chose to wrote her as his idea of a parent, and that idea ended up deeply flawed.
If you'll allow me to be a little indulgent, this is kinda a common problem in the genre, I think. Hilda is fantasy, but the tie-in novels are still largely about her life as a kid and her struggles with school, moving, her mum etc, through the POV of a kid - so they share a lot of DNA with the Beverly Cleary-school of naturalistic kid lit - think Ramona, Judy Moody, Phoebe G. Green, and so on (I'd put Horrid Henry in here too, to an extent; it also suffers from the Tie-in Novels' issues) - series like these generally try and put you in the shoes of a kid dealing with normal kid things, so parents and teachers are often the antagonists.
In a good story like this, the adult characters should act in ways which feel unfair to the kid protagonist, but which they either ultimately have good reasons for (or, if the parents are actually being unfair, it's them making an understandable mistake and is acknowledged. It's harder to do but also very important. Bluey and the first season of Hilda are very good examples of both styles done right) - a parent who wants to move house isn't a bad person if the kid doesn't want to move; enforcing a bedtime doesn't make a mum a villain; the point is to say it's okay to be upset by things, and that sometimes grown-ups aren't perfect, but that sometimes things you don't like need to happen and that's okay too.
The problem is it's very easy to tip into the parent/teacher/authority figure actually being unfair, when they're not aiming for that. What you end up with is a storyline that treats the parents actions as "this seems unfair, but if you understand their side it's not" while the actual text has the parents not listening or being too harsh. They make the kid character's feelings too justified, basically. Even Hilda the show fumbled this, during Season 2; the tie-in novels just fumble it a lot harder.
This happening in media is not unique to kid lit, far from it; TVTropes wouldn't have "Unintentionally Unsympathetic" and "Designated Hero" as very common tropes if it was. But it's easy to do in kid lit because writing someone who seems like a villain but isn't is harder than just writing an outright villain, IMO.

since I can't get any of the Hilda books (because I'm a little broke lol), I decided to read the summary of them on wiki instead
and while I was reading, a thought occurred to me (rare occurrence, I know)
SPOILERS for Hilda and the Fairy Village
Tumblr media
while I can't check if all of the summary is actually true or not, since, again, I don't have the books, I'm gonna trust whoever made the wiki page and assume it is
so at one point, it says that, after Johanna spent some time with her parents (who are fairies btw), her hair started turning blue, same color as her parents' and Hilda's, which is "a sign of her fairy heritage emerging"
and as I was reading this, I immediately remembered a certain other character, who also happens to have a little bit of blue hair...
Tumblr media
The Bell Keeper
before I, and many other people, used his blue streaks of hair as evidence, that the Bell Keeper was either Hilda's dad or some other kind of relative (like uncle or something). but "Hilda and The Faratok Tree" confirmed that he's not her father and that Hilda's dad is a different guy named Anders (who is a human)
so I've had a thought:
since having blue hair isn't necessarily a sign of being related to Hilda's family, but rather the sign of the person having a fairy heritage, could this mean that the Bell Keeper is also part fairy, simular to Johanna and Hilda?🤔
from what wiki says, it seems like he doesn't appear in any of the 3 new books at all and Johanna's parents don't even mention him, meaning he's still ain't related to Hilda, otherwise they'd probably say something about the guy. but since it's pretty known that the tie-in novels and the show aren't one-to-one in terms of plot progression and have had some differences here and there, perhaps the Bell Keeper could appear in season 3 and play some sort of role or at least be mentioned by Hilda in, like, some sort of conversation between her and her grandparents (assuming she even noticed his blue hair streaks)
but I dunno, maybe, after the 3rd season comes out, it might turn out that I'm completely wrong, and there's some other reason why he has blue hair streaks
or maybe I'm right, but he won't play any role at all and it'll just be like a small detail that some fans might notice and go "oh, that's pretty neat"
or maybe my autistic ass is just interpreting everything wrong again
idk ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I just thought I'd share this lil' thing because it seemed kinda interesting to me
(also if Johanna's hair turned blue, does it mean she looks like this now?👁👁)

Did you see the latest Hilda novel summaries and covers? Season 3 can't get here fast enough
I’ve been trying to avoid them tbh but unfortunately I’ve seen the covers and some of the summaries :/
Idk if this is as much of a problem here as it is on Twitter but - PLEASE TAG YOUR SPOILERS!!!
Please use either #HildaSeason3Spoilers or #HildaNovelSpoilers, the novel summaries and covers are cool but not everyone wants to see them yet!

I love the relationship (or rather, the lack thereof) between the Hilda fandom and Luke Pearson. I don’t know if this is just me, but I feel like we’re just marginally aware that he’s A Guy and that he makes the thing we like and that’s as far as we care to go. You see fandoms researching their favorite creators and following them in every social media and looking for each of their projects and we just. We just want the stills and trailers. Some people care about what he has to say about the plot and animation. And that’s it. He’s just a dude whose name is in the opening and whose self insert shows up sometimes to Be Useless and we’re fine with that! The opposite of a parasocial relationship. We’re parallel playing in the same room

Find it hard to believe that the tie-in novels are skipping The Mountain King?
I mean - maybe? The tie-in novels skipped The Storm, but then needed it for Hilda and the Ghost Ship (which adapts The Windmill), so they had to awkwardly mention it in Hilda and the Time Worm and explain it retroactively - I would not be surprised in the slightest if they did that with Mountain King too.

okay so I just finished watching Hilda's 3rd season and then I remembered something from the graphic novels and I HAD to check this...
(spoilers under the cut)
Tumblr media
IT WAS FORESHADOWED!
I mean Johanna declines it because the hill "gives her the creeps" which is somehow logical due to her past trauma with the fairy mount in Tofoten, even though she doesn't actually remember everything
(just like she somehow remembers the forest and the lake in episode 6).

Hey guys this should go without saying but don’t post long comments explaining the plot of season 3 in the novels on my fanfiction or ANYWHERE. Not only because it’s rude and people don’t wanna see that but Luke Pearson himself has asked people not to discuss the novels until season 3 comes out, ffs
