heey i love everything you write and ive been trying to come up with the courage to request this scenario:

scenario/reaction to their s/o fem9th member!reader playing the pepero game with other member or maybe be challenged to play w/ a guy from another group?

i just love the idea of them being jealous on camera and not being able to act cool at all

SKZ - Jealous SKZ on a show

a/n: thank you so much for reqeuesting!!! please don't be nervous about sending me asks, i swear i'm nice :,) i was also really wanting to write some 9th member!reader for some time, so i was really excited to write this!

cws: fem!9th member!reader, reader is the maknae, fluff, some jaelousy, non toxic jealousy, reader having to do the pepero challenge with a stranger, mentions of sexism (Jeongin)

Chan: So we all know that livestream where he was super mad at staff right? That is him at this moment. He is so angry. He is such a protective leader and this is the straw that breaks the camel's back. It started when your stylist put you into a way to short dress. Which hem you've been pulling down the whole time. And this game is the end of his patience. He won't intervene during the show, but afterwards he will do everything he can to make sure that all of SKZ never has to do something like this again. He feels terrible that it even got so far, and apologizes profusely to you later.

Minho: No. This is not happening. He won't let this happen. After the MC read out the challenge he just starts laughing obnoxiously loud and fake. Making everyone around him give him weird looks. "No but what is the task?" He asks and when the MC repeats it he interrupts them and asks that question again. He does that until everyone is uncomfortable enough to just skip the challenge. He will get a huge lecture from the manager later but he doesn't care. Climbs into your bed at night holding you tightly.

Changbin: He gets so whiny. Making a huge scene. "No! Not our poor innocent y/n!" He is super dramatic and hugs you tightly. He turns all the attention from you and your challenge to himself until everyone forgot about it. Afterward, he gets cuddly, clinging to you the whole time, grumbling about the MC and the stupid game. Wants some praise for protecting his baby so well, and keeping her away from weird dudes.

Hyunjin: Side eye. He is judging the MC. He is judging the member of the other group. He is judging the crew. He is judging his manager who let you do this. He coughs loudly when you play the game, making the other guy flinch, breaking the cookie early, preventing him from getting too close to you. Afterward, he is cuddly, touching you through the rest of the show. Scaring anyone off from making you do anything weird for the rest of the show.

Jisung: He also gets whiny. And pouty. And loud. "We can't have our Maknae's Innocence be tainted! Someone protect heeeeeeeer!" He makes such a big scene, including: fake crying, clinging to you, and holding you back from getting to your seat. Does this until the only thing that goes viral is him being a baby instead of you almost kissing some random dude. Will cuddle you afterwards. No matter if in public or not. Maybe if he is really anxious that day this could also lead to him getting a bit insecure. Please hold him that night, he needs it.

Felix: He is not a jealous person. He's fine with you hugging Seungmin, or even falling asleep cuddling Jisung. He loves how close the group is with each other, you are a big family. But he despises how this guy is suddenly getting close to you. Especially with all those cameras on you filming your interaction. Offers to do the challenge instead of you. Everyone thinks he is joking but he is so not. The video low key goes viral, so many edits afterward. But he takes all the scandalous articles, if that is what it means for you to be comfortable.

Seungmin: He is such a bitch. Not to you but the other guy. When you pull away he loudly declares "He must have really bad breath when y/n pulls away this early". He makes everyone on set laugh about that guy. Behind the scenes, he gives him dirty looks. He is more jealous than he would like to let on. He is also very clingy afterward. Unusually clingy actually. This will start some sort of scandal but he doesn't care, for him this was all worth it.

Jeongin: Won't react openly. Just smiles along and buries his fingers in his clothes. Trying to hide his anger. Stares at the game making sure that the other guy won't get too close to you. Won't be very reactive during the rest of the show, just a little bit more touchy with you. He will be so mad after it though, making a huge deal of the fact that "they only made her do it because she is the only girl. That's so sexist." Which is very right actually. He is super protective from now on, letting no stranger get too close to you. Huge cuddle session later in bed, holding you super tight, still bothered about the situation.

Gunil

Gunil was an MC for a program with Lilly from Nmixx. Everything about their interactions were normal. Gunil had made a mistake while reading the script which caused Lilly to laugh. It was a normal reaction. Gunil's mistake was funny, you were laughing at it yourself. That was until you read the comments and they talked about how cute Gunil looked with Lilly, saying that they matched one another well. That’s when a wave of jealousy hit you.

Gunil returned home later that day and could sense that something was off with you.

“Something the matter with you?” Gunil questions, both of you are sitting on the couch.

“It’s nothing,” you shake your head with a breathy laugh.

“No, something’s bothering you, tell me,” he persists.

“Comments were saying you and Lilly match each other well. It made me feel a bit…jealous I guess. It’s stupid,” you explained. Gunil chuckles letting out a “cute” under his breath. He pulls you into a hug.

“That’s cause they don’t know I already have the perfect match for me,” Gunil states. That’s all you needed to hear for your jealousy to go away.

Jungsu

Jungsu was appearing as a guest on a variety show. Yeji was also appearing on the show too. You hate to admit it, but when the host of the show commented on how good of a pair the two of them were, a tinge of jealousy struck your heart. It only got worse when the other guest on the show agreed. Rationally you knew that there was no harm in the comment, yet it still bothered you.

You and Jungsu were hanging out in your room. You scrolled on your phone only to come across the clip of the show Jungsu and Yeji appeared on. It was the clip saying how good of a pair the two made. Again the feeling of jealousy hit you. A pout formed on your lips. Jungsu saw this and took a look at your phone screen to see the clip. He didn’t like when the host said it either.

“We’re a much better pair you know,” Jungsu stated. The jealousy you were feeling was replaced with embarrassment.

“I’m sorry, I’m just being silly,” you apologized.

“No, I didn’t like it either honestly. Neither did Yeji, it made us uncomfortable,” Jungsu explained. Jungsu then moves to cuddle with you, taking your phone from your hand.

Gaon/Jiseok

Nmixx were being supportive juniors and attended a concert that Xdinary Heroes were having. After the concert both groups had a friendly conversation. Some fans caught them interacting together and filmed it. Comments on the videos were mainly happy about seeing the two groups interact, but there were also some fans shipping the members together. You know it was just fans being fans, but reading the comments shipping together Jiseok and Haewon worked up quite the jealousy in you.

The next time you saw Jiseok you were being extra clingy.

“Not that I don’t enjoy your hugs, but you aren’t usually like this,” Jiseok piped up.

“Maybe I should be,” you mumbled, tightening your hold around Jiseok. He laughs.

“Seriously, what’s up with you?” He asks you, pulling away from your hold.

“I saw comments shipping you and Haewon,” you revealed.

“Ah so you’re jealous,” Jiseok said playfully.

“Be quiet,” you scolded him, which only resulted in his laughing again. This time he wraps you in a hug.

“I only want you, my little jealous bean,” he reassured and teased you. You lightly shove him away, but he pulled you back to him. He still playfully teases you for the next few days.

O.de/Seungmin

Seungmin and Ryujin did the dance challenge for Itzy’s new comeback. Fans were excited to see the two of them interacting. You thought that it was nice to see them interacting too. However there was this one little part of you that was consumed with jealousy. At the end of the dance challenge Ryujin playfully slung one of her arms around Seungmin’s shoulders. The simple action ignited a green spark in you.

Later Seungmin caught you watching the short video. He noticed the slight envy lurking in your eyes.

“Don’t tell me you’re jealous because Ryujin threw her arm over my shoulder,” Seungmin says in disbelief.

“Yes, I’m jealous,” you stated.

“Come on babe it was-” Seungmin began to talk.

“Why can’t that be me?” You cut him off.

“Huh?” Seungmin asks, confused.

“Why can’t Ryujin throw her arm over my shoulder? Do you know how lucky you are?” you complained.

“You’re jealous because you want to be me?” Seungmin questions in shock.

“Yes. Ryujin is so girl crush. How could I not?” You answered him.

“I’m never letting you meet her. I’m scared she might steal you from me,” Seungmin declares.

Junhan/Hyeongjun

You were meeting Hyeongjun outside of the jyp entertainment building, so you two could grab dinner together on the way back. You saw Hyeongjun through the glass beginning to exit the building. He was talking with Sullyoon. You felt pathetic for it, but a wave of jealousy washed over you at the sight of them two walking side by side and laughing over something. They both parted ways as soon as they stepped out of the building. Hyeongjun’s eyes lit up as soon as he saw you, which made you feel even more pathetic.

“Hey,” Hyeongjun greets you warmly.

“Hey,” you greeted him back with a smile, trying to hide the jealousy you just felt. Alas, Hyeongjun knew you too well.

“Did something happen? Did you have a bad day?” Hyeongjun questions you with concern.

“No, it’s nothing,” you tried to convince, but Hyeongjun didn’t buy it. “Fine I saw you laughing with Sullyoon and it made me jealous, but I know it’s ridiculous, so let’s just go,” you quickly spoke. Hyeongjun smiles and wraps one arm around you, pulling you to his side.

“Sullyoon is just a junior you know that. You’re the one I love y/n,” he knocks his head against yours.

Jooyeon

Jooyeon got selected to appear on a t.v. program alongside with Nmixx member Bae and a few other fellow idols. You were excited to watch the show and support Jooyeon. What you didn’t expect was to end up watching the show with the company of a green monster. Jooyeon and Bae had been paired up to do a mission together. Throughout their mission the others made comments about how good of a match that they were. That was the cause of your envy.

“Did you watch the show?” Jooyeon asked you excitedly as soon as he arrived at your place.

“Yeah I did. You were great,” you complimented him, trying to just brush off the jealousy you felt.

“Thanks. The shoot was tiring, but fun. Bae was a good mission partner too,” Jooyeon told. He just had to say the last sentence didn’t he? Your face must have made a look because Jooyeon pointed it out.

“What’s with that face? Wait, are you jealous?” He shouts.

“Stop,” You warn him.

“Oh you so are!” He teases you. “My baby is jealous,” he states, hugging you, rocking side to side.

“They said you were a good match for each other,” you pouted. Jooyeon cups your cheeks.

“Nonsense, you’re the best match for me,” he pecks your nose.

SWAP SANS/BLUE - blue unintentionally (and sometimes intentionally) spends his free time working and being productive a lot- he can always find something to do.

cleaning up, making food, and also seemingly pointless things- havent organised the bookshelves in a while, better do that! oh i just made a drink but i could sure use another one for when that runs out, and how about another backup for that one? he's used to being busy, so a lot of the time he just does that automatically- he also genuinely enjoys both being productive and the satisfied feeling he gets after doing so

but when he's NOT he loves fnaf, especially security breach, he loves collecting all the little gifts- he also just enjoys video games in general, but ones with challenging things to do and to make, like minecraft and skyrim

he also enjoys hanging out with error, orange and any other friends who may want to, even if he's doing the above mentioned things at the same time with them or in their company

SWAP PAPS/ORANGE - orange generally likes to just lounge around or create little things to trick and mess with his bro.

he likes scrolling through videos on his phone, he gets addicted to stupid little apps like candy crush (though will he admit that? no. he has full control. obviously. shut up.)

and as for trolling blue he'll just stick a hundred pictures of rick astley around their house- in the fridge, in the cupboard, inside the tv????? somehow?????

i also think when he has energy and time he likes doing little tasks around the underground for people- reading stories to kids, helping muffet bake, all that stuff

and of course he likes hanging out with blue whenever he can, he loves kicking his ass at mariokart and putting him in holes in mc

He is also part of the Brothel route (he and Dorain Grey share it). He is a prostitute at the Oscar Wilde brothel, and he has absolutely no problem raping MC under his bosses orders, not letting her leave and overall assists his boss in turning MC into a brainwashed sex slave.

Cullen Rutherford

stupid racist cop creep whose fans cry about how hes "changed" and "you can't judge him he was addicted to magic drugs" nah he still chose to be a racist cop and abuse his power over innocent people and i hate him. the writers making him romanceable in da:i after how blatantly horrible he was in da:o and da:2 is baffling but i guess they had to appeal to the part of their audience who watch those "mafia boyfriend" videos on tiktok or whatever

He's creepy in origins, though still 100% willing to kill the female mage pc he's crushing on, as well as all the other mages trapped in the circle with him. He's the second-in-command in an even worse circle in 2, listening to and defending the increasingly obviously insane meredith until literally the end. He's one of the people still pushing for the circle system by inquisition, and yes he's going through withdrawals and working through the traumas of previous games. And to be brutally honest his was the first romance i took and while i don't remember much from it, its not worth all the girls going absolutely nuts over knockoff terrible alistair.

He's basically a cop who thinks being born a certain way can revoke personhood and by Inquisition still thinks mages are monsters to be controlled, not people. He gets a fairy tale cutesy romance that focuses on his personal struggles with addiction while showing absolutely no regard to the atrocities he committed and still thinks were justified. He can be romanced BY A MAGE and his actions and beliefs are just glossed over. He believes mages are 'not people like you (Hawke) and me', but if the Warden was a female mage he canonically had a crush on her and would deliberately hang around her despite the fact that he was her *jailer*. If that Warden romanced Leliana, there is war table dialogue in which he pesters Leliana for news of his 'former' crush despite her repeated statement that she doesn't want to talk to him about her. All this shitty behavior and lack of introspection gets swept under the rug by the game, not even giving the PC the chance to really challenge his beliefs. Like damn even Fenris could apologize when he lashed out due to past trauma with mages, and if anyone has a reason to hate mages it's Fenris. If you want an ex Templar hottie Alistair is RIGHT THERE. Tbh I know Cullen is a popular romance and I'm not here to tell anyone what they can or can't do or like in a video game, I'm just saying I think he is deeply undateable

Spends the first two games as an antagonist, fervently devoted to the cause of subjugating mages, then a bunch of "character development" happens off screen and the games treat him like he's completely reformed. However he's actions make it clear he still sees mages as dangerous and lesser. Not to mention if you romance him with an elf he doesn't pay your culture more than lip service respect like most of the devout characters

He was a total villain in the first two games who was violently prejudiced against mages and uses one single bad experience as an excuse for it (a bad experience that is pretty much exactly what he in his job subjected graduating apprentices to, mind you, but this is never brought up). Now he says he's changed, but his words and actions say otherwise. He still distrusts mages, sympathises with the rebel Templars trying to kill them, and he never owns up to the terrible stuff he did and helped others do in the past two games. He totally knew what Meredith was doing and says he doesn't, and he still tries to defend her intentions. And you have no option to call him out on it. If you romance him as a mage, he angsts about how he might have seen you as subhuman in the past but NOW you're one of the good ones, and when you ask him if he'll kill you if you get possessed, he dodges the question. And the PC is written as being almost sad that she's a mage? Like 'can you love me despite what I am??' Also if Leliana romanced a female mage PC in the first game who is still alive, he asks her creepy questions about their relationship. Fitting considering his original purpose was to be creepy to the female mage Warden.

I hate him and want to cause chaos. Plus his VA is an asshole.

Cop

I think you covered almost everything but don't forget that beautiful moment in DA2 - Act 2 where you find out some templars had a petition to lobotomize all mages and Meredith, THE HARDCORE TEMPLAR LEADER, rejects it, but Cullen says they got a point. Despite the fact that we just found out that those templars were using lobotomy (or the threat of) to rape people and get away with it. And then Cullen in DA:I is whining that anything that happened it's not his fault because Meredith kept the worse away form him so he didn't know, but also that anyway Meredith had a point and did what she had to do. Meredith does not go mad until Act 3, before she was of sound mind and Culllen was her second in command BECAUSE he hated mages as much as (or even more) than her. What the FUCK did she even hide from you, Cullen. Oh, but he changed! Because the writers make A VICTIM OF THE TEMPLARS say so. And anyway he only says so BECAUSE HE READS MINDS not because Cullen did anything to show it. Also the narrative wants to sympathise with Cullen for his drug problems while Cullen is openly attacking the only other character with the same problem for...having the same problem. And he's the antagonist, so there were OTHER things Cullen could be mad about. But he is mad about the drug problem. Also I'm not an expert on writing characters with addictions but he is an addict only when it's time to have a cut scene where you pity him. Otherwise it has zero impacts on everything else.

lessons from ballet instructor/choreographer. i will say, my one gripe with the jisung ballet scene was that it felt like the room was too small for him to actually stretch his arms out. you can see here that he's pretty close to the wall so it doesn't feel like he's dancing unrestrained like he should be.

"just the right bullets" is probably my favorite tom waits song, but one thing I love is seeing how different artists/actors deliver the line "why be a fool," because the tone of the song can shift so much there.

so for context, the song goes to waits' "the black rider" opera, and while waits' album of the same title has him performing most of the songs, and it's been covered by a few artists, in the opera, it's sung by pegleg, a mephistophelean devil figure who's trying to sell magic bullets to the protagonist, wilhelm. there's this excellent dissertation on the opera I read a while ago that breaks the song down into two parts of pegleg's "sales pitch"- the first verse is him pointing out how wilhelm needs the bullets because he's a bad hunter, and the second is him talking about how the bullets would improve wilhelm's life. the line "why be a fool" opens the second verse, and depending on how it's delivered, it can offer us different interpretations of pegleg's intentions or deception. here's waits' rendition of the song:

when waits sings it, the line is another part of the show. He puts a slight emphasis on the "f" in "fool, and stresses the "why." He's continuing the sales pitch in his characteristic growl, and while he's not exactly playing the character of pegleg here, you definitely get some sense of theatricality.

horwitz' pegleg evokes the mc from "cabaret" to me. He's flamboyant and showy, with a touch of darkness and menace. His delivery of the line is very different from waits, in that it's almost blunt. rather than emphasizing the benefits of the bullets like waits does, his delivery seems to suggest that wilhelm would be stupid to refuse the offer. while the rest of his performance is exaggerated, this line seems to be delivered in a more natural way, complete with a hand gesture suggesting that his sales pitch is the obvious solution to wilhelm's problems.

jordi vidal is probably my favorite pegleg. he's a force of chaos, smiling and making suggestive gestures, and he makes very literal and frequent hand motions throughout his performance, evoking a mime. there's a comedic bit in between verses, where he's about to continue singing, but wilhelm starts sneezing, so he has to awkwardly stand there and wait for him to finish. but immediately after, he continues his performance in the same manner as the first verse with a smile on his face. while this could also contribute to the comedy, it could also have a more sinister implication- that he's expressing he doesn't actually care about wilhelm, and just wants to keep going on with his sales pitch. (I would definitely recommend watching this video btw, as well as the other clips from this performance uploaded to vidal's youtube. he's such a great pegleg and is so fun to watch.)

I'm not sure who this performer is, but this version from the metropoltheatre muenchen is interesting, in part because of their pegleg's voice. they're very high pitched and androgynous, suggesting perhaps a tiny troublemaking imp, rather than the seductive devil figures of horwitz and vidal. their delivery of "why be a fool" (along with most of the second verse) is unique in that they sound angry. they deliver these lines staccato and quiet, with a slight tremble, and it's both comedic and menacing because their voice is so high. pegleg's not usually an angry character; the entire story is under his control and he's never actually challenged, so he doesn't have any reason to be. but hearing a bit of anger here makes us wonder what could happen if pegleg got angry, which gives this performance a bit of an edge.

here's marianne faithfull's version. I honestly don't like it as much because she does take some liberties with the lyrics here and there- not any to change the meaning of the song, but enough to bother me because every other version I've heard keeps waits' lyrics the same. but I do like how she delivers this line, because it sounds almost sweet and cloying, which is a take I haven't seen from other actors. it's still a continuation of the sales pitch, but it's not too flamboyant or seductive; it's sugary with a touch of menace. this definitely isn't my favorite version, but that is an interpretation I like.

You Shouldn't Be This Cool

A/N: Something purely self indulgent to kickstart this Obey Me writing blog. The idea mostly belongs to @warm-meelk because of how they drew their MC playing bass and then sprinkled in the fact that Levi would be the pianist and I just kinda...went from there q wq. And I also play bass so...all the more reason to write this!

Warnings: Levi trying to justify some of his more weird actions while MC seems to not only know...but enjoy the attention.

Levi wasn’t a creep, he was passionate.

He was passionate about TSL, he was passionate about anime, he was passionate about his idol groups and he was even passionate about learning new skills in order to better evolve himself into an ultimate fan.

So what he did today was not because he was a creep!

It was because he was passionate.

The third born tucks his feet on his chair, sipping up the noodles of his second cup of ramen as he watches the video feed from this afternoon. He smiles as the camera zooms in on your fingers, each one plucking the string of your bass absentmindedly while you listen to the melody he had composed.

As a TSL fan, he was ‘in the know’ of most TSL fan events whether they were held in the Devildom or in the human world. If they were worth the trouble he would attend and if it seemed like it was just a repeat fan event for one he already attended then he would just get the merch from the safety and comfort of his room.

Yet a completely new fan event had popped up on his radar one day, an online one.

One that challenged each and every TSL fan to create a song dedicated to their favourite lord.

Levi doesn’t remember much after that announcement, all he remembers is knocking on your door at devil knows what hours of the morning and shoving the music sheets in your face while pleading for you to help him out.

Your musical talent wasn’t hidden in the House of Lamentation. While most of the brothers could boast about having pretty decent singing voices or being ‘okay’ at certain instruments, your ‘weapon’ of choice was perhaps the most random but also well fitted instrument for someone like you.

You played the bass.

If he wanted to get specific, you played the TCB1006 Ibanez electric bass. You had mentioned in passing when you and him had met up to start ‘jamming’ out and Levi had retained that fact along with his hundreds of other facts that had to do with your particular interests and likes.

Again, because he was passionate...about your friendship.

The camera zooms out to film both of you, a happy giggle taking him over as he saw just how chill you looked.

How unfair was it that out of all the instruments you could play, you had to play the one that just made you look even cooler?

You were laying in his tub while he sat on the very chair he was sitting on now, plucking strings seemingly at random but humming some bars and trying to fit them with his melody. Your feet were propped up on the edge and the soft brown color of the guitar meshed so well with the glowing blue lights of his room that he is so glad he picked this spot for his hidden camera because you looked ethereal.

“I still can’t believe you composed this. It’s pro-level.”

“H--Ha! Of course! This is nothing but a piece of cake for me! If it's about the Third Lord and Henry then I’m all over it!”

Eyes take in the way you sit up and position your bass higher, fingers having a better reach as you start to ‘slap’ the strings in order to create a more wavy and deeper sound.

“Okay...I think I got it. Can you play the melody from the beginning?”

Oh here it was.

Sitting up, Levi puts his cup noodle down and grabs the nearby music sheets, pen already in hand as his attention on you becomes laser focused.

The beat you play is, well, playful. It is a high contrast to his almost operatic piano melody and he could almost hear himself playing a bit slower as if wondering if you had even heard what he was playing

“Uh MC…?"

“Trust me.”

Levi bites his lip as he feels his heart skip a beat, not even having to look at the screen to see that he was blushing. His past self was so predictable…

Although wasn’t his present self all the more pathetic for reacting to your words a second time?

He’d rather not think about it too much.

Your purpose had come shining through the moment Levi started to really hear the notes you were playing. It was almost as if you were mimicking Henry’s character with the bass. Cool, collected and eager to learn more about the world he had been thrusted into, your bass managed to capture the curiosity of Henry’s while his piano clearly symbolized the shy but deadly Third Lord.

The bass would go high, the piano would go low but as the melody started to harmonize so did the way your playing did with his. It was if he was the Third Lord, shyly peeking at the way Henry interacted with the world around them…

Only to turn around and invite him to join along.

His eyes go up to the screen.

You looked so happy, your fingers plucking away as he continued playing along with you. Your eyes turn to look at him and he almost wants to punch his past self in the face for not looking back. The camera had been perfectly placed to capture the way you tilt your head as you stare at him, chuckling as he clearly gets far too into the music for his own good.

To miss such an exclusive UR moment from you, he should be ashamed of himself.

“Haha. Thank the devil I came up with this camera idea!”

Levi blinks as he looks around, coming face to face with his beloved Henry as the fish stares at him from his bowl.

“...don’t look at me like that, Henry…”

The fish blinks.

“I wasn’t doing it to be a creep! I just wanted to write down the notes MC played before I forgot them.”

Henry’s mouth opens and then closes.

“And see! I even missed such exclusive moments from them! Look!”

He pauses the video and turns the screen so his fish can take a better look.

“5:06. I even timestamped it. Right here, MC is smiling and looking at me so cutely that it would be almost a sin to not record it!”

His fingers tap a couple of keys as he goes back to another point of the video.

“3:58, they smile and do such a cool trick with their fingers that I didn’t even notice that they stick their tongue out whenever they get too into playing! Do you see that Henry?”

A couple more taps as he keeps the video playing, the goldfish swims close to the edge of the bowl.

“I missed so many great moments all because I was so lost in playing! And I just didn’t want to ask them if I could record them because then they might think I’m using the footage for some sort of weird purpose and I would never do something like that to them! My Henry is far too amazing for me to just watch them one time! I just wanted to make sure of the notes they were playing! This is all for passion--!”

“Levi?”

He stops talking as he looks back at the screen, Henry swimming away while Levi tuned into the video once again.

“Was that good? I don’t know why but having the bass go a bit higher as I mute the strings feels almost like--”

“Like a conversation! It’s like the instruments are talking!”

Okay maybe this camera idea wasn’t the greatest after all, that was such a stupid thing to say and if he could go back and just slap the words out of his very mouch, he would.

Yet once again, his MC showed just why they were at the top of their ‘favourites’ list.

“Yeah! Like a convo!”

The conversation dissolves into randomness as Levi sighs and looks down at his sheet music. He only got a few notes down. Devildom, what was the point of having perfect pitch if he didn’t use it all the time? He straightens his screen out as he grabs a pencil instead of a pen, knowing full well that if he wanted to get this done he would have to rely on listening to you play and not looking at the screen.

If he finished this quickly then he would be able to stare at yo--it...he would be able to stare at it the rest of the night.

He goes to rewind the video but stops when he notices the scenery has changed just a tiny bit. You were out of his bathtub and looking at his aquarium, tapping the wall twice as some of his other fishes came up to greet you.

They were already so accustomed to you that he was sure even Lotan would know who you were.

Your attention goes from his aquarium wall to his computer, looking at all of his figurines and other merch he proudly showed off. A few more steps to the right and you were looking at his bookshelf--

Only for your eyes to lock with his.

He rolls his chair back immediately, his heart dropping to his feet as you reach out to the camera and pluck it from its hiding place.

No. No no no nononononononono!

This was it. You were done with him. Levi didn’t have a lot of friends but he knew that this was probably a friendship ender. His pupils contract as he sees you look at the camera with a confused look, already guessing your thoughts before you could vocalize them.

This weirdo was filming me the entire time. And he was hiding the camera? Disgusting. I’ll make sure to never come by his place again. What an absolute creep.

“MC...I didn’t--”

His jaw clicks shut as small tears gather at the corners of his eyes, not yet falling down his cheeks as he sees you smile and wave at the camera.

What--?

“Levi. If you wanted to film you didn’t really have to hide it. I want something to remember this session too. Next time you can just ask~”

You wink and Levi can feel his heart going from the floor all the way to his throat.

“Oh and send me a text when you have the footage ready. We can watch it together.”

He lets out a breath he didn’t know he had been holding as you place the camera back before his voice rings out from the video, exclaiming about all the snacks he had brought. So that’s why he had found you standing up, and here he thought you were leaving…

Send you a text...the footage…?

His hands scramble to his phone as he quickly enters the passcode, blushing as he sees a new message from you.

“Mind if I come over again? I have a new bassline I want to show off.”

Levi puts the phone down slowly before getting up---

Only to immediately fall down, hands over his face as he curled up on the floor.

Of all the characters he thought he would be in a shoujo, the last one he thought he would end up as is the heroine.

Not that he was regretting it, this was perhaps the best outcome that had happened in his now not so miserable life.

KBTBB OC Headcanon: How They Are With The Bidders

A lil background on my OC

Eisuke

She has a love hate relationship with him.

She hates him because well, he’s Eisuke. A greedy rich asshole who always wants his way and never takes “no” as an answer. Eisuke stans, don’t come for me pls-

I’d say the reason she loves him is because he has the ability to do good things, and sometimes he does that.

She also does think he’s attractive, but she’ll never admit it to him because that’ll just fuel his already big ego.

When talking with him, it’s all passive aggressive.

If he’s being all stubborn with the MC (she exists in my AU), then she’ll start standing up for her and just go off on him.

When she found out about his sister, she also tried helping to track her down for many hours a day

Overall, they try to avoid interacting unless they actually need to.

Soryu

Before falling in love (bc they’re together in my AU), she’s kinda annoyed by his disrespect to the MC.

Like okay, but she’s literally not being like every other woman? SHE’S A KIND SOUL

One time, she managed to throw him onto the floor when they were challenging each other because he underestimated her strength and tried to go easy. He couldn’t face her the next day-

She definitely does respect him because she sees that despite his dislike for women, he’s a man with good morals.

That’s one of the reasons she falls in love, and their other similarities draw them closer.

She likes to tag along on some of his missions if they involve fights because it means a lot of thrilling action.

She is able to use a gun, but only uses it if necessary; knives are preferred

They’re not lovey dovey in front of the others, but when they’re home they show a lot of affection to each other so much that they become different people.

He gets jealous when she hangs out with the others a little too much, but she makes up for it with a lot of affection

The only time they argue is when they want the other to stay safe from danger despite their high ability to defend themselves.

They cuddle in any way they can when they sleep.

A lil backstory detail: They met back then in high school, but it was only once so they never remembered it until school was mentioned.

Baba

Despite the fact that he’s a flirt, she actually thinks he’s a funny and amazing person.

Well at first, she was a little iffy about him due to his flirty nature but she got used to it. He used that later on to get Soryu to show his affection for her.

They are almost besties, but you know his #1 best friend is Ota and no one else can take that title.

Sometimes she acts as a wingwoman for him and tries her best to convince women that he’s a great guy. But then the dates go wrong-

When she gets with Soryu, she goes to Baba for advice since he has experience and well, he’s a guy- (Soryu also goes to him but he doesn’t tell her-)

Whenever Soryu wants to pull his gun out on him, she tries her best to calm him down because she actually cares about Baba :)

They play video games together and do funny videos (sometimes even pranking the other bidders).

Overall, they’re just two goofballs that have fun together.

Ota

Fake-

She thinks he’s a two-faced prick but once she hears about his backstory from Baba, she understands his reasoning.

Finds his kink and habit of calling the MC his deceased dog’s name super weird and unnecessary-

They sort of get along? But mostly because they both love the arts and so they try to inspire each other.

She took some lessons from him and now she draws pretty well.

She will have those moments where she will tell Ota to shut the hell up because he’s making stupid jokes or is picking on the MC.

Love hate relationship, but actually is more chill with Ota.

Mamoru

First impression was him snoring by the window.

Didn’t know he was a cop until she heard him talking on the phone with the station about a case.

She would wake him up every time she saw him leave anything behind that the MC would have to clean and force him to do it himself. Lots of yelling would occur, letting everyone know what was obviously happening-

Also tells him to go work by giving motivational speeches about justice and protecting the innocent Spoiler: They almost work but never do

They talk from time to time about life, other times he sleeps on one couch and she sleeps on the other when there’s nothing else to do. Eisuke gets mad when this happens because of possible drool stains-

One time she gave him help in tracking down a criminal who was kidnapping girls.

He treats her like his daughter, telling her to be safe whenever she goes on missions and makes sure she’s taking care of herself.

Though Soryu hates him, he lets her hang out with him and doesn’t say anything while they’re talking to each other.

Luke

Thought he looked innocent, but then learned about his thing about bones

Fortunately he never paid attention to hers but when he would approach the MC a little too closely, she would intervene and try to gently push him back

She still trusts him because Soryu and Eisuke does too

Gets checkups from him whenever she feels her injuries could be serious

She notices how much sleep and food he lacks, so along with the MC she helps encourage him to take better care of himself

They try to make simple meals so that he can start off lightly, and try using sleeping sounds to have him pass out automatically

It’s not easy, but having two ladies beg him to take better care should be encouraging enough

For conversations, the only occurrence is when she’s telling him to take care of his health, but sometimes she has questions about the body anatomy that she asks him.

Shuichi

Rarely sees him, but the first time she saw him was when he had a meeting with Eisuke.

He gave a mix Soryu and Eisuke vibes, but with glasses

She doesn’t really think much of him, since she doesn’t know much about him

She likes when he and Eisuke disagree or argue, because it’s satisfying to her seeing Eisuke getting a taste of his own medicine.

Sometimes helps him win-

Good acquaintances I’d say

Hikaru

Both are assassins, so immediately they connect as friends

They talk about their different strategies and maybe pick up something from one another

They met through Shuichi, who brought him one day

Sometimes they go on missions together if possible just to hang out or if they actually need more than one person

On their free time, they like to go out and go to amusement parks, do karaoke, get ice cream, just anything fun

Best assassin friends :D

Rhion

First saw him at the auctions, but didn’t know it was him until after

She thinks that his Mad Hatter appearance is so cool that she went to him one day and asked him to do the look on her

Have tea parties sometimes, and she brings snacks that she thinks he’ll enjoy

His kind nature is comforting, so she goes to him whenever she needs to feel calm

Tries to visit often so he has someone to talk to because she knows how lonely it can get

Tries to keep him an innocent cinnamon roll and just loves how adorable he is :)

What you play is always different and on which console. Jake is a nerd so he has several of them.

You two often play video games together, it’s fun and challenging for each of you. Just like when it came to the prescription that belonged to Hannah.

If you play games like 'Gta', you will only do stupid things, it will be a race for life and death. A lot of angry players, but you’re having fun.

If you play something like 'Mario Kart', there is no mercy. Nothing with 'let the other win' or 'pay attention to the other'

It’s like Jake studied such games, sometimes you have to laugh how ambitious he is in such things.

When you play 'Fifa' together, Jake has a little more understanding. You know he lets you win, and he knows you know he lets you win (Sometimes) And yet he always pretends he didn’t let you win.

When you play games like 'Call of Duty', there can be arguments, or rather, discussions.

Jake’s better than you, and sometimes you think it’s not fair that he plays such a sneaky game. If you’re offended, he’ll laugh at you until he realizes you don’t think it’s funny. He’ll still be amused, but will tell you he’ll give you more chances next time.

The first time you won, he just said it was rookie luck.

If you have defeated him more than once, then he can also be offended. He’s the nerd. If he is defeated, then it doesn’t suit him.

The selection of the game is always different, sometimes you choose together, sometimes only Jake chooses and sometimes you.

There are problems when it comes to games like 'Just Dance'. Of course, Jake is not the biggest fan of this game but if he has the fighting spirit, then it can be quite funny. Jake is not the most talented dancer, which makes it even more fun. But when Jake wildly swings his hips to Lady Gaga, that’s the most beautiful sight in the world.

If you play party games, such as Mario Party, it can also happen that you argue. When it comes to mini games, it is a battle of giants. However, Jake makes sure that you regularly have a sense of achievement so that you don’t get sad or something. If he wins too many times in a row, he’ll let you win.

You two do often make game nights. One game after another is played. It can happen that you nudge each other back and forth on the sofa or accuse each other of cheating.

Games you don’t know but Jake already, he explains to you or plays them with you. He will sit behind you and you between his legs, so you play until you can do it alone.

When you play as a team against others, everyone else has no chance. You both are just the best team there is.

When Jake plays alone, he can be loud when it comes to winning a game. Just sitting next to him and watching him play is better than any movie.

breaking down Ace of Diamond - the "Hero's Journey."

Using the model/guide presented by Overly Sarcastic Productions in their youtube video Trope Talk: The Hero's Journey, I will attempt to discuss how Sawamura Eijun's story in DnA is his Hero's Journey to becoming an ace pitcher in the Japanese HIgh School Baseball environment.

Blue from OSP put forward the 12 basic parts of the Hero's Journey Cycle. The illustration below will be our reference. I simplified a graph made by Signy Wilson in order to match OSP's less rigid guide.

disclaimer: I am by no means any kind of expert. I was just fascinated when I learned about the Hero's Journey as a general trope/framework when it came to writing stories. I want to apply what I learned by breaking down the story created by Terajima Yuuji in Ace of Diamond.

A. ORDINARY WORLD

STAGE 1. THE HERO IN HIS NATURAL ENVIRONMENT

Hero: Sawamura Eijun. Captain and Ace Pitcher of middle school baseball team. He has no formal training in baseball whatsoever but was the one who gathered and convinced his friends to start a baseball club. He's the best player in their small team. Good at sports but bad at academics .

He is generally a baseball idiot and quite a naive/simple guy with a strong heart. He does not have any idea what competitive and pro baseball looks like because not only does he not have experience but also he does not watch the broadcasts on tv/radio at all.

Ordinary World of the Hero: rural town in Nagano Prefecture, where Sawamura formed a small baseball team with his childhood friends. Acording to him, as long as they all stay together they can always play baseball anywhere.

STAGE 2. THE CALL TO ADVENTURE

2.1 Problem/why hero's ordinary world is going to crumble: - He lessened his chances of being scouted/accepted in a good baseball school after he btchslapped an entire opponent team and the umpires in their first and only match as middle school team in Saitama Stadium.

He also has low chance of being accepted into the high school in their area (where his friends are all going to) because he struggles with his academics a lot.

Unless he does something he won't be able to be together with his friends and/or play baseball at all.

2.2 Caller of the adventure - Takashima Rei pursues Sawamura into Nagano Prefecture in order to scout him as a sports scholar for Seido High School, a baseball powerhouse school located in the West Division of Tokyo Prefecture.

2.3 medicine/ solution to hero's crumbling world: being a sports scholar for Seido. This would solve almost all of Sawamura's highschool enrollment problem and also give him the chance to play as much baseball as he wants.

STAGE 3. REFUSAL TO THE CALL

3.1 reluctance to go: Sawamura refuses to leave Nagano despite Rei's "sales pitch" to him and his family. He doesn't want to leave his friends just to play baseball in a stronger school far away because he had promised his friends that they would always stick together.

3.2 hero punished for this - his grandpa literally smacks/slaps him in being stupid and doubting his friends.!!! / technically circumstances are already punishing him for being a hotblooded baseball idiot in the first place.

3.3 do you think you have a choice - this is probably the only chance he'll get to play baseball with all his strength AND finish highschool.

B. EXTRAORDINARY / UNKNOWN WORLD

Venturing out into more competitive/pro baseball is a world beyond him. It's scary and unknown and he'd rather defeat bigger teams than leave his friends.

STAGE 4. CROSSING THE THRESHOLD

4.1 crossing physical threshold - Rei persuades him to at least check the school out with his own eyes. They leave Tokyo together for one visit.

4.2. crossing a metaphorical threshold - in that visit, sawamura, picks a fight with a senior who's bound for baseball drafts, works together with a nationally acclaimed catcher in defeating the senior player, thus changing his worldview because he had so much fun.

4.2. conscious and irreversible decision - Because of the experience he goes home conflicted. His family encourages him in their own way to follow his guts and heart and go to Tokyo.

STAGE 5. REALM OF ADVENTURE

5.1 hero learns to navigate the unknown world - Sawamura learns the harsh realities of being in a baseball school once he actually starts to live there. Our boy also gets educated in Baseball and Pitching 101. He also finds out the true personality of the catcher he played with before.

5.2 meeting allies/rivals/mentors - he learns about the team better when he meets a whole bunch of people: batchmates, coaches and senpais. He builds interesting dynamics with all of them.

5.3 trials and initial failures - Sawamura undergoes difficult initial training and is barely allowed to play in matches.

5.4 meeting enemies - Sawamura being allowed to play as relief pitcher in the games and face talented pitchers and scary batters mostly in tense situations.

5.5 growth, new skills - Sawamura grows with each match, thus bolstering his confidence. Sometimes he falters but he learns from his mistakes.

5.6 first major success - striking out scary batters with each new thing he learns.

5.7 major challenge that leads to downfall - seido vs inashiro finals match where he goes in full of confidence and courage but then he and his team gets defeated in a devastating way.

STAGE 6. BELLY OF THE WHALE

6.1 lowest point of hero where hero physically or metaphorically goes down - one month after their major defeat, a lot of intense practice matches and change in team dynamics, the team find out that Sawamura has the YIPS. This condition took away Sawamura's ability to pitch in his trademark style/ the only thing he was good at.

6.2 hero's darkest hour - without the ability to pitch, Sawamura questions his reality and why he is still on the team.

6.3 Face and overcome inner demons - with a lot of help from allies and mentors, Sawamura finds a way to bring back a bit of his ability.

STAGE 7. ROAD OF TRIALS

7.1 Discarding old self - In the duration of his downfall and eventual healing, Sawamura turns to books, meditation and becomes even more careful in maintaining his form and body.

7.2 Accepting the new role - instead of fixating on the ace position like before, Sawamura is just glad that he is still allowed to pitch as relief.

7.3 Finding path out of the belly of the whale/The road back - After figuring out a solution to fix his pitching, he focuses on it and regains some of his ability. Sawamura is then allowed to play in matches. Just like before, he improves little by little as he recovers from each failure. He gains fresher mindset and new weapons, thus becoming an even stronger pitcher than he ever was before.

7.4 more trials - they face new opponent schools and old but improved opponents which test the best of Sawamura and the team's ability

STAGE 8. PRE SHOWDOWN BREATHER

every major match in ace of diamond has this part of the story but usually the most critical breather episode is the one before the final match.

8.1 show humanity of other characters - Somethng bad happens to the other mc without Sawamura knowing. This could absolutely wreck their chances of winning the final match. This shows that the other guys are not 100% invincible after all.

8.2 last chance to relax. - calm before the storm. It is also the time where they finalize sawamura's weapons.

8.3 quiet moment to reminisce - usually happens before each match. However the night before the finals was the major one because their old senpais went to visit their practice and encourage them.

STAGE 9. CLIMAX / STEPPING UP TO THE CHALLENGE

9.1 Final Showdown - Sawamura helps in the team defense with the best of his ability and weapons and he succeeds. Their team eventually wins Fall Tournament even with a few setbacks.

9.2 Apotheosis - Sawamura's worldview changed once he realises that even with his improvement and skill, his goal of being the ace is still out of reach for him.

9.3 Ultimate Boon - Sawamura gets to be a pivotal member of their baseball team and can play baseball as much as he wants with his team.

STAGE 7. ROAD OF TRIALS start again after the Fall Tournament Act 1 because Sawamura faces new challenges in Ace of Diamond Act 2.

Meiji Jingu Tournament - Play in matches without Miyuki

WInter camp and break - Intense Physical Training and development and improvement of his weapons which he will use and improve on throughout the rest of Act 2.

Spring Koshien where he realises that he has to do more in order to surpass the current ace which was Furuya.

Start of New Term/ Practice Matches - Sawamura and co. meets their new kouhai and team dynamics shift once again.

Spring Tournament / Summer Tournament - Sawamura meets old foes and new enemies. He also becomes the Ace Pitcher of the team, which adds more pressure on his part.

ACT 2 STAGE 8. PRE SHOWDOWN BREATHER

This is the big and long one before Summer Tournament Finals match where injuries and problems were discussed and feelings were explored.

ACT 2 STAGE 9. CLIMAX

Final (Or most hyped and awaited rematch) Seido vs Inashiro in order to qualify for Summer Koshien Nationals.

Sawamura may become both ace and captain, same as his role back in his middle school team, albeit in a stronger school. Even if he won't be the next captain, as ace he will still be in a strong leadership position.

CONCLUSION

That's how Ace of Diamond is written in the style of A HERO'S JOURNEY.

Act 1 writing especially followed the trope quite rigidly.

Notes:

I still don't want Sawamura to be the next captain. I hope that does not happen. However if it does, it means the story will have gone back full circle. That would be quite poetic ngl.

Gotta applaud Terajima's pacing. Can you believe that the story only reached its lowest and most pivotal point at around episode 70 of the anime???? thank godt that after ep 63 I read spoilers about yips arc in tv tropes or else i would have dropped the series completely.

I had difficulty in classifying the events after the climax stage into hero's journey stages because technically sawamura has not gone "home" yet. Moreover the challenges and trials just kept on piling up after Fall Tournament.

In this whole story, Sawamura has experienced only one true "Belly of the Whale stage" during his YIPS arc. I don't think he really came to a low point in Act 2 other than his first official match as Ace Pitcher. I treated that in the same vein as the effects of Raichi's first homerun off Sawamura back in Act 1.

I realized that having stages 7-9 recur starting from Meiji Jingu to the current summer tournament is what made reading Act 2 quite frustrating for me. That's at least 5-6 arcs of endless roller coaster ride loops.

I consider Miyuki's departure to be the "CROSSING THE RETURN THRESHOLD" moment because playing with him was the major reason for Sawamura's decision to study and play in Tokyo. Something will change Sawamura when this eventually happens.

As Blue from OSP said, the Hero's Journey is just a general guide/framework to writing stories. It is flexible, writers don't even have to use it or all of its parts to make a good story. Terajima just seemed to have adopted A LOT of the hero's journey trope in his baseball series.

Lucifer

Finds it super entertaining when you diss someone else like his brothers, but the fun stops when you sass him or god forbid Lord Diavolo. Our prince takes it with humor though and laughs at your comebacks so you don't have to worry about being locked up in a dungeon for treason like a certain demon.

When you and the brothers sit at the dining table and you completely destroy them Lucifer can't help it. He simply can't hide his amused smile.

"And what are you smiling at huh? You always think you're topshit, but can't even say anything to Diavolo."

Lucifer chokes on his food. "What did you just say to me?"

He gives you a two hour lecture about how you should show him more respect, because he's the head of the house yadda yadda yadda. Do you listen to him? Not at all.

He quickly sees how nothing he seems to do or say affects your behavior so he simply stops trying and makes sure he doesn't end up in the crossfire when you drag someone.

Mammon

Honestly? He thinks it's super cool and tries to be like you, but fails.

His eyes are shining whenever you sass someone who was mean to him. Of course he says that he can handle those situations just fine by himself, but we all know that isn't true. Mammon never admits it, but he loves seeing his human step up for him.

"Mammon, you're so stupid that it hurts."

You immediately step in between before the white haired demon can even react. "And you're so full of shit that I can smell it from over here."

Ngl Mammon is a bit scared for your safety. After all you're insulting demons here. They're not people you can just mess with like that, but he doesn't even think about stopping you. Your comebacks always crack him up. Especially when you sass Lucifer.

Mammon once said: "Lucifer will get mad at ya."

The water he was drinking came right through his nose when you responded with: "Well, that bitch ass chicken wing emo boy should stop whining like a baby and maybe he would be a bit more relaxed."

Levi

He loves the conversations he has with you, because just like Mammon he gets tears in his eyes from all the laughter.

Whenever you play video games and you sass an opponent he's dying.

"Stop hitting me with that big ass sword you slut!" Boom! Levi is on the floor screaming and desperately trying to get air.

100% tweets your comebacks. You're famous because of him.

Honestly he doesn't even mind leaving the house. Wherever you go he will follow. I mean who would want to miss out on your sass and creative insults? Not this man that's for sure. He has a small notebook with your greatest comments in it.

Satan

This man immediately falls for you the second he sees that you're an absolute savage. It gets even better when you insult Lucifer.

"That four winged fUCK-"

"You go, Babe!"

Satan purposefully provokes you to get you all riled up. It's beautiful how merciless you are when you're on a rampage.

We all know that Satan knows no limits too and everyone who engages a fight with him ends up as a complete idiot. Except of you of course.

He actually enjoys the "fights" he has with you. You two make a competition out of it and the first one who's at a loss for words loses. Levi keeps track on your points.

You can awlays see a proud smirk on his face when you destroy the others. He's like: "Yes, this is my partner. You better don't mess with them."

Asmo

Just like Satan he's completely head over heels for you.

You can hear a loud overdramatic gasps coming from him followed by him yelling "oh snap!" when you drag someone. He loves it. It makes you even more attractive than you already are.

Demon angrily: "I think you should-"

You gasping: "Hold up you can THINK?!"

Asmo is sitting right next to you and clapping excitedly while giggling.

"MC, you're so funny! Oh please spill more tea!"

It doesn't take him two seconds to join in when you're being sassy. He either sasses them too or stands next to you and nods after every of your sentences.

It's safe to say that Asmo is your personal cheerleader in those situations. No, scratch that. He's your personal cheerleader 24/7.

Beel

You seem so sweet and so kind and then BOOM!

This boy is honestly so shook! He chokes on his food the first time he hears your comebacks.

It's like you don't fear anyone! Tbh he admires that endlessly. You're so honest and confident and don't hesitate to put the people who are rude to you in their places.

Finds it super sweet and honorable that you make an exception for him, but he's confused as to why you're giving him this special treatment.

"Oh, Beel, my baby boy why should I sass you? You're too kind and sweet!"

You and Belphie are the official Beel protection squad.

You shut everyone down the second they even think about talking bad about your big boy.

I just ugh- I think we can all agree that he needs to be showered with love and affection.

Belphie

Mirror, mirror on the wall who is the sassiest of them all? Belphie has to admit that it's in fact you. Honestly you have him wrapped around the finger with your attitude. It makes you super interesting in his eyes and it's like he's glued to you after he saw the savage in you.

He never thought that someone other than Satan could reach his level of sass, but you prove him wrong every day.

His eyes start to shine when you drag the others.

Also loves provoking and challenging you to see who actually deserves the crown. You of course.

"You think you can sass me, MC?", he asks with a smug smirk.

On a more possitive note, I’ve started watching Sword Art Online. It’s one of the worst things I’ve ever seen (and the last film I saw in cinemas was Cats to give you context for the scale i’m working on here) and I kind of adore it in much the same way I love garbage like Smallville or Twilight. It’s so stupid on so many levels. You could challenge someone to write the worst anime, and it would almost certainly be better than SAO. It’s almost hypnotic how terrible it is.

No one should watch this terrible terrible show so I therefore don’t feel at all bad that I’m about the spoil absolutely everything, but honestly if you do also hate-watch this please come talk to me about how terrible it is. I don’t know anyone else who watches it.

Highlights of Season 1 include:

everyone is trapped in an MMO, and if you die in the MMO you die IRL. but if you were a beta-tester you’re probably fine because they just let them keep all their levels and items from the testing, so they’re all massively OP and everyone just accepts this as a normal and non-game-breaking thing

it’s a fantasy MMO but there’s no races, no magic system, no weapons except swords and maces, and not even an option to dual wield - literally all you can do in this fucking game is stand in front of an enemy and mash the attack button. I’m pretty sure they’re trapped there because the devs realised no one would play this post launch-day otherwise because it’s boring as shit

when the villain traps everyone he also just changs all their avatars to look like they do IRL for absolutely no reason, like actually none, he doesn’t even say he thinks it would be funny, he just does it and no one questions it and it is literally never mentioned again because this is the worst TV show ever animated.

in the second episode the main character deliberately witholds information about how to defeat a boss, indirectly causing multiple deaths. there is absolutely no reason for him to withhold it, he was just being a jerk because he doesn’t like people

in the third episode they reset his entire personality and he’s now a selfless hero pretending to be a lower level than he really is so people will find him more relateable and be his friend because all he wants is to help people. this is not a consequence of episode 2, they just decided they didnt like the character as he’d previously been written.

he makes some new friends who are all objectively terrible people who have decided for no season that the twelve year old who doesn’t really know how to play and keeps having anxiety attacks about the very real possibility of death has to be the guild tank. the MC is high enough level to be functionally immortal in like half the levels, but doesn’t tell anyone this he just lets them go on bullying this child

none of his friends survive that episode, in the game or IRL. which is also a christmas epsiode. a child dies in battle because she’s a terrible tank and then a man commits suicide out of guilt, so then the main character murders santa to try and bring them back from the actual dead but it doesn’t work because again, this is a video game and they are dead IRL, so then he walks off into the snow alone. Christmas!

we meet the best character in the entire show in episode 4, Rosalia, who has gone evil and started just straight murdering people because she’s sick of being an attractive adult woman who can’t get a date because she’s surrounded by lolicons who are only interested in the preteen characters (not a joke, that comes up, the show is firmly on the side of the lolicons)

in the same episode we get an extended bra and panty sequence staring an actual fucking child, like canonically this character is maybe 13 at best. this is one of only 2 occaisions when they feel the need to undress a character and it’s the fucking 12 year old, it’s so gross it reads like a parody of itself

literally every single named female character aged over 8 who talks to the MC falls in love with him after like 5 minutes (and in season 2 this includes his actual sister). he shows absolutely no interest in any of them (including his sister, thank god) until...

the main character gets engaged to a girl he only knows from an MMO after a virtual single date (he doesn’t actually win her in a PVP match but only because he looses the match, he 100% canonically tries to win her in a match, which she is apparently fine with). he then doesn’t bother to ask for her real name until the final episode, he just calls her by her screen name

(that’s okay though becuase it turns out that this moron of a love interest used her real name, on a local server, in a game where your character looks like you do IRL, because apparently getting doxxed is her hobby)

they then get in-game married off screen. there’s not even like a still of a wedding photo. nothing. the main character proposes and then the show immediately jumps to the honeymoon, it’s fucking bizarre.

they find a creepy child dressed all in white with no memory alone in the woods a week into their honeymoon who starts calling them mommy and daddy literally seconds after they first meet her, and they don’t suspect anything suss is going on and adopt her

for hilarity bear in mind the main character may only be 15 at this point (he says he’s only just turned 16 in the last epsiode, but his actual birthday is never mentioned), and his virtual wifu is 16, but no one ever questions the marriage or the adoption, even though ‘hey marriage in a video game is as important and meaningful as marriage in real life’ is an actual conversation people have multiple times. also they think the child they adopt is an actual IRL 8 year old who thinks these randos she met in an MMO are her mum and dad and everyone just goes with that like it’s a totally normal thing

a character called ‘Thinker’ agrees to meet an enemy faction leader for peace talks. the “peace talks” take place in a high level dungeon and he is told to come alone with no weapons and no fast travel. he does this. no one ever comments that his name is ironic, and in fact they seem to think that being betrayed and trapped in a dungeon with a boss is a totally unexpected turn of events Thinker could never have planned for

they take their new baby into the dungeon to rescue thinker, because they went to the jean grey school of baby rearing, and she imediately reveals that she’s actually a magical maggufin with infinite power, murders the grim reaper, and then dies. In literally the second episode she’s in

after she dies the MC hacks the admin account of the game, converts her corpse into an in game item, and saves to the local storage on his console, with the intention of bringing her back to life as a robot once they’re saved from the game. I’m not joking, that’s an actual thing that happens.

the fact that the main character can just access the main admin account and make massive game-breaking changes isn’t used again in that game and he never thinks to try and use it to force log people out or give himself infinite life so he can just rush the game and free everyone. nope, convert a corpse into an item and then never think about it again.

there’s an entire episode where all they do is go fishing. its the only filler episode in the season, and it immediately follows the death of a small child. it’s the most tone-deaf beach episode in writing history

it turns out this game, this game where they didn’t bother coding in any difference races, weapons, or any kind of magic system, was intended to have fully sentient AI therapists, because why the fuck not at this point honestly

oh also the game has PVP and you can trick the game into thinking a sleeping player is in PVP with you in order to actually murder a real person without it flagging in-game as a murder making the crime impossible for the real life legal system to investigate even though you just murdered a person. and they expect us to believe this game had actual beta testers. at least cyberpunk wasn’t played on microwaves you connected straight to your brain (also not a joke, the VR consoles canonically work by sending microwave radiation into your brain, no wonder VR never caught on)

the set up for the show is that they have to reach level 100 of a dungeon in order to win. At level 75, the writers got bored and the show just ends.

it turns out the power of love allows you to just break the fucking game and the main villain literally has a line about how ‘love allows you to remove debuffs, huh, we didn’t think to plan for that’ because again, there’s no metaphors in this show, everything is 100% literal including the fact that falling in love with another player means you’re immune to the paralysis status effect

power of love also allows you to very briefly become a poltergeist after being killed, but only for like 2 seconds. again not a joke or a metaphor, main character is killed but then gets to hang around as a ghost for a little bit to enable him to defeat the boss. he also doesn’t die in real life despite that being the entire fucking premise of the show, again because power of love.

the bad guy literally has no plan, he’s just doing shit for the sake of having something to do. His actions directly cause the deaths of more than 4,000 people, and it’s not even in aid of anything. they ask him why he trapped 10,000 people in an MMO and allowed them to slowly die, and he’s just like ‘huh, i forgot i did that, random’ and then just fucking peaces out

the fact that he committed one of the largest mass killings outside of war never really comes up again, as far as we know he doesn’t even go to jail. i think the show actually kind of thinks he’s a good guy, which is a fucking WILD moral stance to take on the deaths of 4000 completely innocent people for absolutely no reason

If this sounds hilari-bad but you don’t want to invest the time to watch a show which is objectively garbage, it has an abridged series which is famously better than the show it’s parodying (i’m dead serious, people have character arcs, the getting married after one date thing is properly addressed, the mc has to deal with PTSD because of all his friends dying in epsidode 3, they don’t immediately follow the death of a child with an extended fishing montage, the villain has an actual plan). It’s mostly actually pretty good, but this is the internet and it’s an abridged series, so while there are a lot fewer yikes moments than most it still has enough that I’m not comfortable recommending it without the caveat. that said I still enjoyed it a lot, although possibly not at much as pointing and laughing at the garbage that is the actual show.

Thoughts on Lottie

I was debating between doing Lottie or Hope first. Because I like them both (Except when I was on Gary’s Route, I didn’t like Lottie at all). But I tossed a coin and now I’m doing Lottie.

The First Week:

I did not like Lottie. On the first episode of the first day, I thought she was alright. But then the rest happened. That snide comment she made when Hope went first on Truth or Dare and how she treated Priya on the first four days. I will say that I was kind of on her side when Priya grinded against Noah during the slime challenge, it was obvious that Priya was trying to stick it on him while Hope had her back turned. She was both insecure and felt the need to control everything going on around her because she couldn’t fathom that other people had their minds. That’s why she probably latched onto Hannah in the beginning. Hannah was naive, easily swayed, and wouldn’t argue with someone. All the other girls weren’t like that.

Now, with her and Rocco (I’m using the non-Gary route for this part, I will get into Gary later), she didn’t like him. At all. Even when they first got together, I’m sure of it. But she wasn’t going to say anything and let the girls know that her couple isn’t stable, which wouldn’t have been a problem it was the first week. But we also have to remember that she had kissed Gary on day three and was developing a little crush on him. She even asks MC how she thinks her and Gary would look as a couple on Day Five, so yeah, she didn’t care for Rocco. So when the whole thing with Rocco and Marisol happened, I think what upset Lottie more was that Marisol didn’t follow Girl Code and both of them went behind her back. She knew Rocco was talking to other girls, she just didn’t care. But they were snakey and that was the issue Lottie had with it.

However, how she treated Rocco after was uncalled for. Girl didn’t even like him like that, but she’s going to give him the silent treatment? Childish. And when she and Gary were making fun of the two on Day Eight, like why? And then when MC tells her what Marisol said, she gives that lame “I just don’t like it when it’s in my face”. Turn your head then! She’s dragging it out, probably because she liked being the center of attention when it comes to the drama.

And then with her and Priya on Day Four. She tried to bring MC into it and my MC didn’t care at all. Lottie was trying to gang up on Priya, but Priya wasn’t having that and that was upsetting Lottie. She wanted to win the argument, she wanted to be right, she wanted to have some sort of power over Priya. She’s insecure and shows that in terrible ways.

Day Nine Onwards:

After all of that, once she couples up with Gary, she is tamer. When Operation Nope happens, I don’t blame her for telling Hope. But to get upset because no one told her what was going on? This has nothing to do with you! She was feeling left out and I’ve always had the urge to use the option where I think it says “No one likes you”, but I never did so if someone used that, please show me her reaction. Because it’s lowkey the truth. Gary and Bobby are the only guys brave enough to couple up with her, the other girls could do without her, and she knows this.

When Chelsea drops the bomb about the kiss, I could understand why Lottie would have a problem. Chelsea said five sentences before dropping that bomb. And she felt cornered too. Priya was demanding an answer, Chelsea was just standing there talking about it, and MC is there to play peacemaker, so of course, she would target Chelsea and walk off. Though she does forgive Chelsea and Priya the next day if MC helps, I don’t know what happens if MC doesn’t, so she seems to be doing better and letting go of grudges.

She kind of takes a backseat if you’re not on Gary’s route, but when she and Gary go to the hideaway, her insecurities show up again. Gary says something about her hair in his sleep and she gets upset and then asks MC about her hair the next day. I need to know why she is like this. A part of me thinks that she was either bullied or something happened in her family life or one of her relationships. Someone messed with her confidence.

During Casa Amor, she has fun with Kassam for a bit and if MC says she wants to sleep with him on the first day of CA, Lottie lets it go and doesn’t try to claim Kassam. She goes back to her childish ways after the video comes out with having the girls try to kiss every guy in Casa Amor, but she doesn’t seem to really care. She does make some comments towards Chelsea during this time because she feels like Chelsea has no right to be upset and I think that is the old Lottie creeping up. Still, she sticks so that she can get back to Gary. Afterward, she is the one who comes up with the idea to figure out what Noah said and she seems to be proud of Hope and Noah reconciling and I think that was a nice moment. After this, she is tolerable. But then Hannah comes back and, you know what? Let me get into her and Gary.

Lottie and Gary:

When I wasn’t on Gary’s route, I thought they were alright. The two had some moments prior to them coupling up and I thought it was kind of ironic if they get together considering that Lottie said that Gary was too much of a lad on Day One. But you know how every other couple gets a moment where you can tell they’ve talked to each other? Like how Hope and Noah both wanted to get a dog, go to Bali, etc? Or when Marisol and Graham were talking about his mom’s crab or whatever happened with the fishes (Why is his whole personality fish)? Everything Lottie knew about Gary, we already knew. The nan, the cranes, we knew this. We didn’t learn anything new with them being together. Remember when Gary opened up about his issues with his body? Why wasn’t Lottie there? When Rocco opened up about his college years and depression, Gary and Bobby were there. It would’ve been nice to have Lottie there so we can see them as a couple. But she wasn’t.

Also, I don’t think they were compatible. Lottie is insecure and needs constant reassurance, and we see this when Hannah comes back. Lottie is worried because of the kiss and if Hannah holds a grudge against her. Not to mention, Gary checked Hannah out when she came back. Before that, Gary didn’t even wake Lottie up to tell her he was going on a date. Everyone playing knows that Lottie would’ve had an issue with that if she woke up and he wasn’t there, but luckily she woke up as he was leaving. And then after that, Gary was playing in the pool with Hannah (Along with whoever MC saves) and Lottie was watching that. And Gary doesn’t ever reassure her. He’s not that type of person. He just expects her to know that his head hasn’t turned and that’s a problem with anyone but especially Lottie.

Now, when MC is on his route, she is the worst. Even if MC doesn’t get with him on Day One, she thinks she has some sort of claim on him when MC couples up with him on Day Nine. Like? Y’all kissed one time, get over it. And she expects MC to give up on Gary because Lottie wants her to? That growth that she has off of his route is gone over here. But know what the worst part is? Bobby.

She is coupled with Bobby if you’re with Gary and it’s so sad watching Bobby develop a crush on her while her entire focus is on a man that doesn’t want her. The two of them even sleep together and imagine how Bobby feels knowing that this girl that he’s slept with was probably thinking of another guy, not just another guy but Gary at that, during the whole thing? And she’s not considerate about anyone’s feelings on his route? Everything is about her. That controlling thing is full force here. She literally tries to bully MC out of coupling with Gary. Bobby is stuck in a one-sided couple. All because she can’t move on from a guy that doesn’t want her! I could understand if Gary was leading her on, but he doesn’t. So what’s the reason? His route is so frustrating having to deal with her.

Lottie And The Girls:

We already know that she and Priya weren’t really friends. I don’t need to get into that again. But as for the other girls, I don’t think she had a friend in them unless your MC becomes one. And Hannah almost forgot about her.

She and Hope never really had any moments and as for her and Marisol, I feel like it was slightly one-sided. Marisol psychoanalyzes a lot and she has made some comments about Lottie, her and Gary, and more behind her back. If you’re on Marisol’s route, Lottie cheers y’all on. I’m pretty sure if Lottie was watching the show after it ends, she would have a problem with Marisol.

But for her and MC, they could either be enemies or friends. Obviously, if you’re on Gary’s route, I’m pretty sure it’s almost impossible for the two of you to be friends. Off, Lottie seems to respect MC’s opinions. She seems to think that MC is the only one in the villa that cares about her and bothers to check up on her. Like on Day Four after the fight with Priya or on Day Six after Marisol and Rocco’s drama. But here’s the thing. Unless Lottie is the one you’re closest with, she doesn’t check up on MC. Certain things like when MC is talking to her on the daybeds on Day Five is coded for whoever MC is closest with. When whoever you’re least closest to on that stupid girl’s day episode calls you a people pleaser, the one you’re closest to will stand up for you. But unlike Chelsea who has her own scenes where she checks on MC, Lottie doesn’t do that. This is lowkey a one-sided friendship. And Lottie probably likes it that way. MC keeps running after, checking on her and everything, but Lottie won’t do the same. She likes the attention, but doesn’t want to give the same effort. Matter of fact, and this could go for all of her relationships, she expects the other to give her whatever she wants but won’t do the same.

Hannah latched onto Lottie because she thought that she was cool and confident, which Lottie struggles with herself. But Lottie leads Hannah on the first three days, it’s not an equal effort. Yeah, Lottie was upset when Hannah left but that’s because she lost her sidekick. Now, she was stuck in this villa with girls who won’t do what she says so easily and that shows, especially on Day Four with Priya. She tries to stick her problems onto them, but they don’t bend so easily. That’s why she missed Hannah. We see that when Hannah came back on some impostor shit, Lottie was nervous. Remember when Hannah said “Not everything is about you” and left Lottie shook? Hannah came back on some little revenge tip and Lottie was shaking.

Final Thoughts:

Off of Gary’s route, she has potential for growth. There are seeds there, she just needs to water them. I like to think she starts working on herself after seeing how she was in the villa. She starts to become more secure and confident in herself and actually learns how to give up control.

Next up...is a wild card.

Summary: Ethan attempts to decorate his apartment for Christmas and worries himself into the ground about it, as per usual.

“This looks stupid,” he mutters to himself for what might be the fortieth time.

Still, Ethan can’t resist reaching out and shifting the small pile of presents again. As if another inch to the right will suddenly make them fit in amongst the other decor on his mantle. They should be in their traditional place under the tree, but Jenner nearly consumed an entire bow when he turned his back. And with how much time he wasted watching wrapping tutorials on his phone -- twenty-seven minutes, according to the video length and the amount of times he replayed it -- he doesn’t have the energy to deal with that again.

Especially when he’s spent so much of the afternoon fighting with the lights. When he pulled them from the dark tomb of his guest bedroom closet, they were wrapped neatly around a divider -- thanks to his dad, who gifted them to him years ago. Somehow, in the short trek to the living room, Ethan managed to tangle them into an incomprehensible mess.

And there went another sixteen minutes.

He has studies published in several dozen medical journals; he wrote his own textbook before the age of 27; he’s been the keynote speaker at the North American Diagnostics Conference for two of the past five years. But Ethan doesn’t even want to know how long he struggled with wrapping the lights around the tree, before he realized he could just pull the damn thing away from the corner. After wrestling it back into said corner, he plugged in the cord. Only to find that the lights were set on some bizarre, rapid blinking pattern that he couldn’t seem to switch off.

There must be a joke out there about a doctor reading a wikiHow article on how to set up a Christmas tree. He sure isn’t laughing, though. Because for all his troubles, his apartment looks like the set of a low-budget holiday special.

“This looks stupid.”

From the floor, behind the makeshift barricade around the tree, Jenner grunts in agreement. Ethan bites back the sigh that begs to form, figuring that he’s met his quota already. It’s irrational to be nervous about something so trivial -- it’s all tinsel and plastic pine needles, after all. But that’s not counting for what’s at the bottom of the box on the coffee table. Which is why he wants this to be perfect. Which is why he should stop worrying over the decor and see to dinner.

He’s only gotten to slicing the tomatoes when Jenner races to the front door.

“--the state with the worst drivers, I swear,” Sloane says to no one in particular as she opens the door. “I read an article about it in The Atlantic.”

Bundled up in her coat and his scarf, she shakes the snow from her hair. Fat drops of ice plod onto the rug. She bypasses the coat rack and drapes hers across a barstool, then dumps her bag and scarf onto the island, muttering all the while about Massachusetts drivers. Her heels clatter to the floor as she kicks them off and moans in relief. It should be silly that, despite the panic he feels at her early arrival and the slight annoyance at the mess she’s made of the foyer, he’s still hit with that familiar pang of affection for this woman. He likes being on this side of the fence when it comes to their relationship. The side where it’s just the two of them, with no workplace rules or curious onlookers to spy on them. The sex is fantastic, don’t get him wrong, but there’s something thrilling about the domesticity. He certainly wasn’t ever able to say that about his other relationships.

Now, if he could emit any sort of verbal greeting from where he’s frozen in place at the counter.

“You’re early,” he declares, wincing at the lack of subtlety.

“Patient transfer went without a hitch. Must’ve been one of those Christmas miracles I hear so much about. So Naveen said I could head out.”

Sloane pops open the fridge and pulls out a bottle of wine. Passing behind him, she gives his hip a quick squeeze before locating the corkscrew. She glances up through the curtain of her hair at him and grins, reading his nervous energy as easily as a book. He’s never been good at hiding much from her which, looking back, was probably for the best. “I texted you.”

“I… you did?”

Popping the cork, she shoots him another look as she pours them each a glass. He takes his and tries not to seem too eager to have a sip. Reflections on the bottle pull her attention from him and to the odd light show playing in the living room. Ethan watches as she rounds the couch and lets out an amused chuckle.

“What’s with the textbooks?”

“Jenner kept trying to eat the ornaments. And the tree skirt. And the tree.”

“Most people get those weird, little fences.”

“I’ll get a ‘weird, little fence’ next year.”

“Don’t. I like it. It’s very…” she tips her head to the side, as if she’s assessing an art piece and not the Great Wall of Oxford University Press, “...you.”

“Thanks. I think.” Coming to stand beside her, he gestures to a plastic storage bin on the coffee table. “I didn’t have a chance to hang the ornaments yet.”

“Good. We can do it together.” Bumping her nose against his arm, she drops a kiss to the fabric there, and then another on his jaw. “After dinner, though, because I’m starving.”

Leaning down, he hauls her close with his arm around her waist and captures her lips with his own. After a long, long moment, he pulls away and lets them both catch their breath.

“Me too,” he says, grinning when she rolls her eyes at his antics.

“Yeah, I got that. C’mon, you take care of the main course and I’ll handle dessert.”

“Isn’t this supposed to accompany dessert?” he questions as he reads the label.

“Hush. It’s Christmas Eve. We’re both adults with high-stress jobs working on a veritable sinking ship that we’re choosing to go down with.” Sloane ticks off the reasons with her fingers, though she only gets as far as those two before he passes the bottle of Marchese dell’Elsa to her. “And it’s Christmas Eve.”

“You already said that.”

“Enough backtalk.” She uses her stern voice, but the effect is diminished by the sleeves of his sweater sliding back down over her hands. “It’s time for the best part.”

Reaching into the plastic bin, she pulls an ornament free from the tissue paper. It’s a green, silk ball, shot through with a gold stitching that’s coming loose. Ethan thinks it’s old enough to be his paternal grandmother’s. A woman he has few memories of, but the ones he has -- orange parquet floors, low, throaty laughs, and the spicy scent of menthol cream -- are fond. Sloane moves over to the tree and settles it near the top.

Frank Sinatra’s Christmas album and the hiss of the gas fireplace accompany them as they make slow work of emptying out the bin. Glittery snowflakes and chipping snowmen hang amongst the cheesy doctor phrases his dad insists on gifting him.

“Aww look at you,” Sloane drags out the word as he lifts out one of the last ornaments. Crafted from popsicle sticks glued together, the makeshift frame holds a glossy picture of Ethan clutching a first place trophy for the fourth grade science fair. “What was your project?”

“A lemon volcano.”

“That’s so cute. Mine was on the different decomposition rates of plastic in fresh versus saltwater.”

“Nobody likes a braggart,” he mumbles, prompting a laugh from her as she snatches the ornament from his hand and hangs it dead center on the tree.

She turns back to rifle through the bin for any small baubles they may have missed, only for her to lift out a gold key tied with a ribbon. Confusion draws her brows together as she inspects it. Though he despises hyperbole, he can’t deny the near-feeling of his heart in his throat. He gulps down what’s left in his glass and sucks in a breath. Sloane moves to place it on the tree when he reaches out to stop her.

“No, wait -- it’s… it’s for you,” he manages to stutter out.

She shifts to face him.

“What?”

“This year has been challenging. Probably the hardest and most grueling in a long time.” Ethan rubs his palm along his jaw, unable to suppress the smile that comes with his next words. “But you -- you made it all worth it. I can’t help but be thankful that I’m here with you, at the end of this awful year. And I know that we don’t know what’s going to happen with the hospital, or where we might be next year, but I don’t really care about any of that right now.”

And hadn’t that been a revelation, that the career he’d spent a decade dedicating his life to cultivating had fallen to the wayside when it came to his future with Sloane. Because that’s what he wants, at the end of the day, at the end of this mess. “Having you here with me -- I’ve gotten used to it. And I’d like for you to continue being here with me. If you want to, that is.”

Her green eyes are wide as they flicker from his face to the key and back again. The lights shimmer against the auburn waves that have come loose from her bun. She clears her throat and gives her head a little shake, as if waking herself from a daydream.

“I -- what are you saying?”

“I’m saying that I lied about needing to donate my clothes. I mean, I am still doing that, but the reason wasn’t just for a yuletide cleaning. I was making space. For you to move in with me.”

He steps forward and settles his hands on her waist, kissing her once on the forehead. The smirk appears on his face, unbidden. “I thought I was being pretty obvious, what with leaving the top drawers empty and moving my suits to the guest closet.”

“I thought you were going to embrace the leather jacket look you picked up in Brazil and expand your wardrobe beyond grandpa sweaters and khakis,” she serves right back.

Ethan rolls his eyes at the dig.

“Big talk for the thief currently wearing one of these so-called ‘grandpa sweaters.’”

Sloane snuggles close, right into the space where she fits so well against his chest. Her fingers trace over the key.

“My answer is yes, by the way.”

The confirmation warms him, right down to the center of his chest. Or maybe a little to the left. Cupping her face, he slides his lips along hers, sighing with content when she deepens the kiss.

“I’m glad to hear it.”

Author’s notes and what-have-yous:

Another fic that’s mostly dialogue? Absolutely unheard of from me. Another fic that should’ve been posted in a timely manner? Yet here we are, day after Christmas. Oh well.

Was the hospital talk vague enough for it to be obvious that I… haven’t exactly finished book 2? I got to chapter 14 and then work hit me like a category five hurricane for two and a half months, so I haven’t gotten a chance to actually play the last few chapters. I’ll get around to them eventually.

Also: the Atlantic article is fake, though MA did receive the worst driver award back in 2014. As of 2020, Massachusetts was rated as the best for drivers (using data from 2017 through 2019).
