Once again trying to fix some movie scenes that are just painful to watch. Based on the scene above, only later in the timeline. Try also "Stupid dress".
******
Harry is looking at her.
This isn't something new, only something that a corner of Ginny's mind had noticed a while ago and then assigned for “later” or maybe “It doesn’t matter, you have a boyfriend”; or most likely “you are hallucinating, stop it”.
Except her mind has decided that later is now and it happens Ginny broke up with her boyfriend a few days ago; and also, she doesn’t think she is hallucinating and Ginny definitely doesn’t want to stop it.
Harry is looking at her; no, better, he is ogling at her.
Other people have taken notice of her lately—somehow people are far too interested in the end of her relationship with Dean—, but whereas Ginny hasn’t cared much about anything other than the insane amount of revisions for exams, when it comes to Harry… There is a soft spot she was never able to overcome fully. So, instead of checking her notes again, she rises from the studying table that her friends had assembled at the Common Room, grabs the plate she sneaked from the kitchens early, and moves to join Harry on the couch.
His eyes follow her, then darken just a bit when he realises how close she is.
“I’ve come to grant your wishes,” she says teasingly. Harry gulps in answer, but doesn’t back away. There is a glint in his eyes as he moves closer to her on the couch.
“And what do you know about my wishes?”
Ginny arches one eyebrow before saying in her most pretentious voice, “Call me the Mirror of Erised, because I can show you your deepest desire.”
Harry laughs. It’s one of those carefree laughs that takes her back to the summer, when there were just the two of them chatting and flying—innocent, by all standards, but lately Ginny has been wondering if she had just missed all the signs.
She isn’t keen on missing them again, and there is no innocence in her voice now. “I saw you couldn’t keep your eyes off that table.” Harry smiles guiltily, face flushed for being caught, but again he doesn’t deny it. He seems bold, confident in a way she doesn’t see him much except when it comes to fighting Voldemort; her heart skips a beat. “I guess there was something there you wanted very much.”
His hand on the couch is slowly moving towards hers. “Definitely.”
Ginny bites her lip for a moment before raising the plate she brought with her; there are half-a-dozen sweets there, all courtesy from the elves at the kitchen, but Ginny offers him one specific dessert. “Treacle tart?”
“My favourite,” he agrees, but the interest he bestows on that piece of treacle tart dims when Harry looks at her again. “I hadn’t even noticed it was there, though.”
“No?” Ginny grins; Harry’s gaze falls to her lips for a brief moment. “What did you want then?”
His eyes meet hers again; Ginny’s heart leaps into a furious race. There were stolen glances before, moments where their eyes nearly met before Harry looked away, face flushed, clearly flustered; once he’d hugged her and then let go before Ginny could react. But then Harry seemed to be holding himself back and Ginny was in a relationship; now she is a free agent, and Harry—he’s not holding back now, and there seem to be nothing in the world that could stop him from closing that space between them and kiss her—
Nothing except her brother, of course.
“Pie,” Ron says delightedly, somehow crafting a space to sit between Ginny and Harry that shouldn’t be physically possible with how close they were, and helping himself on the treacle tart. “How did you sneak dessert to the Common Room? McGonagall always catches me leaving the Great Hall.”
“One of my best talents,” answers Ginny, dismayed. In front of them, Hermione’s lips are twitching.
“Ron—they were talking, let’s sit somewhere else—”
“Oh, sure,” and without any trouble, Ron grabs the plate from Ginny’s hand and moves away.
Ginny looks back at Harry, but this time he doesn’t move closer to her, as if Ron was still there sitting with them.
She sighs. “I need to go back to my revision.”
Harry nods. He steals a glance back to Ron—he’s sitting with Hermione now, oblivious to them—, and Ginny has already stood up when Harry adds rushedly, “Perhaps we can share that treacle tart later. You know—grant my wish?”
Harry is looking at her and it’s easy to lose herself in the sparkle of his eyes; she knows what she is wishing for and it’s not hard to imagine what’s on his mind either. “I could never refuse.”

Social Media AU - Ron and Lavender
All of these are from Harry’s phone
(Side note: these events happen with the trio in Y11 which is actually the equivalent of 5th year but I decided it fit better for this AU)

Hope you're doing well and resting up easy. I'd absolutely die to read a quidditch HBP era harry pining story, maybe something locker room centric or during a post-match victory party? I'm so uncreative with ideas sorry if you've already done one like this! <3
You're so kind! I am resting well! This isn't super long but I hope you like it!
___
Locker room chat
It was just after the quidditch training. Harry quickly showered and got dressed. He was now at his locker, pulling his sweater over his head. He picked his glasses out of his locker and to his frustration his glasses fogged up. Before he had a chance to wipe them, someone had performed a heating charm on them. When they unfogged, he saw Ginny standing in front of him, tucking her wand away again.
“Better?” she said with a smile. He only nodded, suddenly forgetting how to speak. Before he could find his tongue again, she had moved on to chat with Demelza.
Harry turned back to his locker, embarrassed. He had to get his head straight. She was dating Dean. She was Ron’s sister. Ron’s sister… Ron’s very pretty and charming sister.
Should have taken a cold shower, Harry thought to himself. He closed his locker with his hand. He watched Ginny and Demelza silently, pretending to play with the snitch in his hands.
She whipped her hair back and she did it so elegantly, Harry’s breath hitched for a second. He looked down at the snitch, wondering what had gotten into him. He never felt about Cho this way and she sure knew how to charm the people around her. Ginny did not even seem to be trying. He looked back up and saw Ginny laugh at something Demelza had said. He felt a warmth spreading in his chest, wishing he could make her laugh like that.
He realised he had already been standing around for far too long and started walking when Ginny caught his eye.
“Good practice, don’t you think?” she said when Harry got closer. Her soft eyes trained on him and he wished she’d never look away.
“Yeah, everyone’s doing great work,” Harry said, at least quidditch was a safe subject. They both nodded in agreement.
“Weirdly enough you were the one being hit by bludgers the most,” Ginny pointed out. Harry hoped he wasn’t blushing, his ears certainly felt warm.
“As a Captain, I have to make sure all the other players are doing well,” Harry lied. No need to specify he was interested in one player in particular.
“Sure,” Demelza replied, she did not seem convinced, “We are heading upstairs, are you coming?”
Harry looked back, Ron was almost done changing.
“No, I’ll wait for Ron I think,” Harry said. Both of the girls nodded and said goodbye, making their way out. Harry looked until they turned the corner.
“Ginny’s pretty great, isn’t she?” Ron said as he came to stand beside Harry.
“She’s alright,” Harry replied in a panic. Did Ron notice anything?
“Come off it, she is great at quidditch!” Ron told him. Quidditch. Oh. Harry quickly adjusted.
“Oh that. Yes, for sure.”
Ron frowned at his answer and shook his head, but did not make any further comments.

i wrote a hinny "micro"fic inspired by today's @hinnymicrofic prompt, august 5th - dementor. it is not really a microfic (not even close), sorry.
You can read it here on AO3 if you prefer.
warning for mild sexual content.
Tumblr media
1999, october

Ginny's tried baking chocolate brownies and chocolate silk tarts; she's not great at it, everything she makes comes out looking like the surface of the moon, all hard and cratery, and none of it seems to cheer him up: he's still standing in the shower til the water's long gone cold; she comes home and he's sitting on the sofa in the dark like he didn't notice the sun went down. After a couple of weeks he asks her to stop.

"I'm stuffing chocolate in my face all day at work," he says. "Getting a bit sick of it, actually."
So she makes curries, and stir-fry, and a mushy attempt at her mother's lamb stew, but he pushes them all around on his plate until they're cold and scrapes them into the bin.

"Sorry," he says, and it's like a thump to the chest from a bludger.

He's been stationed at Azkaban. The Aurors have driven all the old guards away with a squadron of patronuses; Harry said they lit the rough sea so brightly that he could see the rotted hull of an old shipwreck on the rocks just under the water, for a moment, before they chased the dementors off into the sky. But the nasty things keep coming back, sometimes one and sometimes dozens, in sieges that last for days. It's delayed the workers fixing up the bars, modernising the plumbing, righting all the toppled-over headstones in the cemetery.

"Kingsley's got this theory," Harry explains, sitting on the edge of the sofa in a way that suggests he's going to get up any moment, "that all the—what happened there left a sort of residue, and they like it."

So Harry's been there, in the residue, sitting on his broomstick in battering wind and waves that crash with such force that their spray reaches up the highest tower and grabs at the parapets on the top. Casting his patronus over and over while dementors curl through the air around him like clouds of black smoke.

That's how she imagines it.

"So you're just thinking of me all day," she teases him, and he laughs without smiling, without touching her, and then gets up to oil his broomstick.

That night she gets into bed naked and still all damp from her shower, and he crawls on top of her right away, lips on the rim of her ear. Then tongue on her collarbone. She digs her fingers into the muscles of his back, closes her eyes, and imagines that she's taking all the dead things the dementors must dig up in him, sequestering them inside herself where they can't hurt him anymore.

But when it's over he's quiet again and keeps to his side of the bed.

"Do you still hear your mum and dad?" she whispers after she's caught her breath.

His back is turned and she's not sure he's awake until he answers, "No. Not really anymore."

"What is it, then?"

He rolls over and looks at her with the blankets pulled up over his mouth and nose.

"A few different things," he says.

The next afternoon she tries to keep busy, but she keeps thinking about those eyes, colorless in the dark bedroom and full of something she doesn't quite understand. She's immediately embarrassed but she can't help herself: she conjures a patronus of her own and sends it to him, no message, just her nimble silver mare galloping toward him across the sea.

When he gets home, he tells her (with his hands in his pockets and his eyebrows squirming) that he'd rather she not do that again.

"It's just distracting," he mutters.

That night in their bed all his little kisses are like apologies on her skin—or so she imagines. They're soft and deliberate and he's quiet the whole time.

"If you met a dementor tonight," he asks her afterward, still catching his breath, "would you still hear Tom?"

"No," she says instantly, and squeezes her eyes shut. Fred's staring eyes show up in the dark, and so do Harry's skinny legs hanging over Hagrid's elbow, but she's not sure if it'd be either of those things.

When she opens her eyes he's still looking at her, waiting.

"It wasn't even that I heard him," she says. "It was that I felt…"

All of that desperate, humiliating love she'd had for him, her only friend, author of those kindnesses that had faithfully scrawled themselves across the pages whenever she needed them, who had understood things about her that she hadn't even known about herself, who had seen her silly little heart and told her that it was beautiful. All that had gushed from her and out into the train compartment and into the ink-black maw of the dementor and she'd been so terrified and so ashamed that it had still been inside her all this time.

She doesn't say that. Eventually he falls asleep.

All that week it rains, a miserable rain that isn't really trying, just drizzling off and on interminably, and she can't stop thinking of him out there in the middle of the sea. Grey above, grey below. Hunched on his broom, wand outstretched, wringing out drops of happiness from some memory of a summer day with her—maybe. The awful truth is that she just doesn't know what it's like out there.

"So," she blurts out, when he's just coming home and stripping off his uniform robes, "are you just going to slink around like a kicked kneazle and not talk to me?"

He's frozen with his robes pulled over his head. They muffle his voice.

"Talk about what?"

"About—" she realises she's raised her voice and brings it down. "—all this we've been going through."

He frees himself and takes a minute straightening his uniform over the coat hook. When he looks up at her, he seems genuinely baffled.

"Have we been going through something?"

She just walks off and turns on the shower. She doesn't even know what to say.

She goes to bed in pyjamas. He puts out the lamp with a mumbled goodnight. The house is empty when she wakes up, disoriented in the feeble light and the rain drumming, and she feels like she must have heard something, like someone's in the house. She slips her wand off the bedside table, silently, and sets her bare feet on the floor.

The Patronus walks right through the closed bedroom door.

It ducks its antlers under the ceiling fan, which surprises a chuckle out of her, and comes up to nuzzle its face against her temple. It can't touch her, she doesn't feel it, but all the hairs there prickle and stand up, electrified with its presence. She brings a hand to the side of its long face and strokes the air.

"Hi," she breathes.

Okay but also they (hbo series) need to fix the Ron and Harry relationship as well. People ship Harry and Hermione because of the movies and how they sacrificed Ron’s character development for for Hermione’s. If Ron and Harry’s relationship were true to this books, people would be more content with Hinny and Romione.
Edit to say: and honestly redeeming their relationship just for the sake of doing so would be even better! Ron is the first person to show Harry unconditional love and care. They really are platonic soul mates. Harry is devastated when Ron isn’t around- let’s show that part of their relationship! It has depth! It has love!

Hear me out:
Sirius travels to the future and goes to Hogwarts, he sees Remus as a professor and flirts with him and that kind of shit. It’s an au where Sirius in that timeline hasn’t escaped from Azkaban. He questions shit and Remus eventually tells him that he killed Lily, James and Peter and that he’s now in Azkaban and he can’t accept it, he has a mental breakdown. He finds out about what happened to the others like Marlene, Dorcas, Evan, Barty, Mary, Pandora etc. And he sees Luna yk and thinks about Pandora and he’s like “wait I thought Pandora was with Lily?”
then together they figure out what really happened cuz they see Peter on the marauders map. And they deal with him.
Then Sirius sees Harry and goes: “holy shit he looks just like James!! Am I an uncle?” And when Harry a little gets closer, he goes: “wait- his eyes? Why does he have blue eyes?” And Remus has to explain to him that Regulus joined the death eaters and died when he was 17 and that Harry’s mother is Lily and Sirius goes through another mental breakdown. And after he’s calmed down, he’s like: “so I’m not his uncle?” And Remus is like: “you’re the godfather.” And Sirius cheers up a little.
And when he sees that Harry is in love with Draco he is like: why do the potters have smth for the snarky, sad, depressed, Slytherin seekers who’s mean to them. And ppl from the black family. (I count Draco as a black cuz Narcissa is a black so yeah) (Regulus and Draco both getting the dark mark cuz they were forced😭😭😭)
and when Harry gets a tiny crush on ginny sirius goes like: HIS BEST MATES SIBLING?! OH LOOK HOW FUNNY SHES A GINGER TOO! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME!? See moony I told you it’s in his genes. (You can decide yourself if it’s endgame hinny or Drarry)
And he sees the Weasley twins and he’s like: “they’re my new idols!!” And Remus is like: “We’re their idols actually”
And he sees himself and James in Ron and Harry.
And after a few months when Sirius has caught up with everything, he flirts with Remus and is like: “you know moony I’m horny” and Remus is like: “well I can’t do anything about it, that would be pedophilia” and Sirius is like disappointed. But they eventually have sex (help😭Sirius is like 15 or 16 btw) and Sirius is like: “yOuR cOcK hAs GrOwN”. They take every chance they get to make out. And Remus is like: “oh how much I’ve missed this, missed you”
(They’re at Hogwarts btw) (it’s up to you if he pretends like he’s a student or if he’s hiding in Remus’ room) (but some professors would know if Sirius pretended like he was a student) (maybe he goes in disguise with polyjuice potion or smth?)
(He meets Harry if he’s just hiding and tells him everything but if you decide him to disguise as a student then he just watches from afar and doesn’t talk to him often.)
Remus asks him if this counts as cheating on his past self. And Sirius is like: “no you’re still you, so cheating on you with you is impossible”
Mcgonagall finds out about Sirius but doesn’t tell anyone.
Oh and it takes place during PoA and GoF. But the events just don’t happen, it’s like a normal Hogwarts year. So yeah no voldy coming back. Or no Sirius escaping Azkaban.
You can decide if Remus stays at Hogwarts during GoF or not, like the events didn’t happen so he doesn’t have to leave. But it’s up to you if he leaves and lives with Sirius in his house during GoF. But they’re definitely at Hogwarts during PoA.
and a bit to the end of GoF they figure out a way to send Sirius back to the 70s. Sirius says goodbye to everyone and leaves (Remus is like FUCKING sad cuz he has no one left) and as soon as Sirius is back he begs his brother to run away with him so that that terrible things don’t happen and he talks to James and Remus about Peter, and they do smth to fix that.
So yeah that was it
SOMEONE WRITE THIS PLEASE!!

Hello! Glad your pup is doing okay! What are your favorite canon-compliant Hinny (or other) fics?
Thank you! He's still quite out of it, and he's making my husband spoon-feed him his breakfast but he's definitely on the mend! ❤️
My favourite ever fic is @annerbhp - Gone Was Any Trace Of You - seriously, I read this for what must be the 50th time the other night and sobbed again. My pillow was damp, I had to turn it over to go to sleep. This fic is a masterpiece.
Other fics that I love that are hinny & Canon compliant:
- I'm currently reading (slowly) @whinlatter - Beasts and it is so beautifully written! The characterisation is amazing. I adore it, but I feel like this news to no one.
- for post-war hinny, I also love @lanaturnergetup - all your fumble words. Another hinny writer with an absolutely entrancing writing style I one day hope to live up to. The post war grief is so well done in this fic, its so real and raw. I love it.
-One of my favourite canon-compliant one shots is @takearisk-ao3 - Enough of both. This one has top tier spice, perfect hinny characterisation, and pining that will make you ache. I also adore the expansion of the worldbuilding with Luna celebrating the old holidays
Next on my hinny canon compliant tbr is @sophie-hatter-jenkins - Evolution which I'm super excited to get into because all of her one shots have blown me away!
Finally, I just need to give a shout out to a fic that isn't canon compliant but I read it whenever I'm sad, it's my happy comfort fic and I would be remiss not to mention it, and that's @ashotofogdensoldfirewhiskey - Come Stay for the Summer. It's a muggle!au text fix and it is so fun to read from start to finish and I love it with my whole heart.

Harry/Ginny
Tumblr media
AH HINNY!
oh man, i oscillate between really liking hinny one day and feeling completely indifferent towards them the next.
hinny might be the relationship i like the most for harry, and it's all because because of the family aspect. through marriage w ginny, harry officially became a weasley family member. and, of course he always was one, but he actually is a weasley on paper and i think having that in writing would mean a lot to harry. and my golden trio heart can't not mention that by hinny being married - ron and hermione are literally harry's brother and sister (in-law) now and !!!!! that just makes my heart melt (i know those two were always harry's family but bc of the aforementioned reason, etc. you get it)
so right off the bat, when i try to organize my more positive thoughts on hinny, i'm mostly focused on how the relationship best serves harry, and only harry. and this is where my frustrations with the ship begins: it's so hard to think the other way around because ginny's narrative purpose is just to be harry's ideal love interest, instead of being a fully fleshed character. i really love ginny with all her spunk and feistiness, but she's so underutilized. she had a cute crush on him in the start of the series which was adorable, but her character was inarguably just "ron's younger sister". and after she gets possessed by volde/gets saved from the CoS by harry, she still continues to have a puppy-love crush on harry until OoTP!!! GAAHHHH!!! Apparently joanne said hinny were always meant to be soulmates and i think if these two had a consistent "invisible string" motif throughout the series, it would've been so good (and almost as good as romione's slow burn). So...
here's how i'd fix hinny (lmao):
i wouldve made the ginny a much more prominent character in PoA and beyond.
we get to see hinny actually have heart-to-hearts about the incidents of CoS - for ginny to play such an IMPORTANT role in the titular plotline of the second book, then to just have her blend into the background afterwards just boggles my mind - that was the perfect oppurtunity to make ginny an invaluable character in the cast. she has this huge experience in common with harry - being personally victimized by voldemort - that harry doesn't have w ron or hermione at that point and it would've been so nice to see harry find an equal, a confidant in ginny from then on - like, dont let the readers forget that harry and ginny have this huge thing in common, have it be with us in the back of our heads the whole time!
start the hinny romance subplot fr fr in GoF
the potential of ginny being a maybe date for harry to the yule ball, harry feeling jealousy towards neville for getting to dance and spend time w ginny and harry being like "wait a minute! i'm supposed to crush on cho! im jealous of neville??" that wouldve been FUN - again, they couldve been a less insane version of romione hello
having the hinny subplot unravel in tandem with harry's crush and relationship with Cho in ootp
in ootp, you can argue that the story attempts to make a foil between cho and ginny's characters but if that were the case, it could've done a way better job of it
with harry's relationship w cho - harry likes her bc she's cool and pretty but she wants to connect with him through their connection via cedric and his death, which is off the bat a hugely touchy/traumatic topic for both of them and cho couldn't possibly fathom what it's like to be in the presence of voldemort/tom but guess which other character does ehehe...
now we're at hbp and this is where the good stuff starts bc if i'd had it my way, we'd have gotten their friendship in poa and two books of solid romantic build-up up until now
i honestly had a such a fun time with hinny in hbp, ginny in her OWL year being so cool and harry's hugeass crush on her- harry being a hormonal teenager was hilarious to read like its implied that harry is having increasingly inappropriate thoughts about her throughout the novel and theyre just intercut with "BUT RON-" that's some good shit
my one gripe w hbp's hinny is that i wish we actually got to see their dates sneaking around hogwarts, finding the perfect hideaways for makeout sessions, etc etc i know hp wasn't a romance fantasy by any means but imagine how swoony it wouldve been if we got to actually see these sunset dates instead of just being told about them - it wouldve been cathartic to actually see harry actually live the life of a normal teen boy before everything fell apart lol
if we got all these invisible string moments between them throughout the series, harry thinking about ginny and how good it felt to kiss her lips before he walks to his death in DH would've felt so much more earned
from a storytelling perspective, the case with hinny begs the question of if you can have a love interest for the jesus figure of your narrative? can you make a believable, grounded and balanced love story for the chosen one? i honestly think so but then you'd have to put equal amounts of effort and work into creating two nuanced characters and unfortunately we don't see that effort be put in ginny's character and that's why harry's endgame falls short for so many people. earlier, i said that this is the ship i like most for harry, but honestly that isn't saying a lot - i think with an almost saint-like character like harry, its hard to imagine a satisfying love and partnership for this kid. i like tomarry as a ship for when im feeling a bit insane but other than that, my main harry ship is him with a lifetime of peace and healing.
i also want to argue that hinny was never meant to be a primary romance in this story - the main romance/love story in the series is ron and hermione's and i think joanne's romance prowess all went into romione and i'm so thankful for that because i think it makes for better story (also i'm totally biased)
i also cant not mention the freudianess of it all with hinny, right? like god freud would Love hinny bc what do you mean they look identical to jily, what is going on here. that and the fact they had their first kid at 22/23 years old like my god, WHAT ARE YOU TWO DOING you should be at the club!!!!! i do dig the failmarriage vibes they were serving in TCC, also.

Say your response about snape reacting to hinny, honestly it IS one of my guilty pleasures in fics. I hate when people say that jily and hinny are similar therefore harry has an oedipus complex, he is NOT. He cant have it bc he wasnt raised by his parents so he couldnt have it. I like the pararell simply bc it fixes the "what could have been", idk i think its a bittersweet sentiment. And like ginny is similar to lily NOT in appearances. They dont look alike, the most is just an anecdote for 'Potters and redheads' but I do like how theyre girls' girls you know? Despite being athletic ginny is girly and so was lily, they are fierce and protective of their friends, they are smart but not bookish smart and know it all like hermione, theyre popular not only bc theyre pretty but bc theyre so nice and friendly. I think its sweet that these are the good qualities Potter boys seem to have fallen in love with. Its a cute history pararell that is not at all creepy and people trying to use it to invalidate hinny are just dumb (im looking at you harmony shippers)
As I said in that post, I do think that Snape certainly saw parallels between James and Lily and Harry and Ginny: Harry's suspicion that Snape keeps him more in detention to keep him away from Ginny is never narratively disproven. And while that could only be due to Snape's intense dislike for Harry, what he find out in DH (including Snape's obsession with the past) points in the direction of him seeing James and Lily in Harry and Ginny, even simply because Harry looks like James and Ginny is a redhead.
Though, as you said, Ginny and Lily look nothing alike and if people knew how the oedipus complex works, they would know that if Harry had one, he would fall for someone similar to Petunia.
Now, let's look at Ginny and Lily's differences in appearance.
Ginny is short, Lily should be of average height.
Ginny is athletic, Lily is not.
Ginny has freckles (even if not many, at least on her face), Lily doesn't.
Ginny has flaming red hair, Lily has dark red hair.
Ginny has bright brown eyes, Lily has green eyes.
Also, from these traits, we can deduce Ginny has a warm undertone, while Lily has a cold one.
Of course, if jily fan artists stopped drawing Ginny with green contacts where Lily should be, it would help reminding people they are not long lost twins.
That said, there are some personality similarities between Ginny and Lily (and I also think the concept of Potter men falling for redheads is lovely).
We found out Lily was popular with the boys through an interview in which Rowling, to explain that particular point, directly used Ginny as reference.
They are also both great with a wand
They are both cheeky with professors, and for sure the fact that Slughorn likes both very much is telling.
They are both smart.
They both have a strong sense of justice.
They are both brave.
They both know what it means to lose a very close friend.
In general some similarities between the two are sort of inevitable considering that Lily is Harry's mother and Harry and Ginny are quite similar.
But there are also a lot of differences between them.
Ginny grew up poor, and while Lily didn't grow up rich, she was not Weasley type of poor.
Ginny grew up in the countryside in the open air, Lily grew up in the suburbs (I apologize to all the Brits if this is not the correct term).
Ginny is the younger of seven siblings and the only girl, Lily is the younger of two sisters.
Ginny is part of a close-knit family, Lily isn't.
Ginny is a pureblood, Lily is a muggleborn.
Ginny is an athlete, Lily isn't.
Ginny is popular with boys like Lily, but Ginny is also in general a very charismatic person who can keep the attention of a room, there's no proof of Lily being popular in that sense.
Ginny has a thing for taking emarginate/fragile people under her wing, we don't know if that's the case with Lily, the only person we see her defend is her best friend (also, we can be sure Ginny would have been considerably more angry about the Mary MacDonald episode).
Ginny has a stand-up comedian sense of humor, and while Lily seems to have a sense of humor it's not really on that level.
Ginny can be quite feminine, we really don't know if that's the case for Lily, though I would suspect a teenage girl in a boarding school in the 70s who grew up in a female-dominated house would be.
Lily's dominant trait seems to be kindness, and while I do consider Ginny generally kind, it definitely is not her dominant trait.
And of course they grew up in very different political circumstances, Lily had an overall normal teenagehood, Ginny was touched by darkness extremely young.
And I really could go on for hours in explaining why they are different, but it really wouldn't be fair. Ginny is a three dimensional character with light and dark sides, various interests, and fully developed narrative arcs that go on for seven books, while Lily simply covers the role of the angel woman and is therefore quite aetherial as a figure.
Regardless of this, as you pointed out, there's an element when it comes to jily and hinny of "fixing history", it's something Rowling has quite an obsession for throughout the seven books, the idea of the next generation doing better than the previous one. It is the reason why, for example, we see Draco in the epilogue, to show that Harry learned from the people before him to not hold hatred for years.
Harry and Ginny's story kind of reproduces James and Lily's one in a way. With one partner that falls first, and years of misinterpretation and refusal to admit attraction from the other. But this brings me to my next point, which is that if anything Ginny is James not Lily in terms of personality and the role she covers in her romantic endgame relationship, and it makes sense considering Harry is more like Lily: if the combination of James and Lily's personalities works, and Harry is more like Lily, it is only reasonable to assume Ginny will be somewhat similar to James. There's a foundation of truth in the idea that people usually end up marrying someone similar to one of their parents, and it's not the oedipus complex.
James and Ginny both have a tendency to surround themselves with "fragile" people.
They are both excellent Quidditch players, they both are chasers with a talent for snitches.
They are both bold and a bit arrogant.
Even if for different reasons, they both grew up a bit isolated.
They both do not have much of a problem with hexing someone they consider an idiot.
They are both really funny.
They are both smart and great with a wand.
They are both charismatic.
They are both dorks at their core.
They are both purebloods.
They both have a fascination for stories and heroes and in general have a romantic streak.
They both had to go through a journey of maturation to show their true selves to the object of their affection.
In general, I have to say that while there are parallels between the characters of the two different generations, I find it very limiting to connect a character to only another of the other group.
As written above, Harry and Ginny –in spirit if you will– are respectively Lily and James and inevitably therefore they assume those roles in their romantic stories. But there are points of view in which Harry is James and Ginny is Lily.
Harry, like James, is sort of the leader of his friend group, and Ginny as Lily is more or less the external element that eventually enters the group. In this idea Ron would be Sirius, the best mate of the leader. Though of course, the connection between Ginny and Ron is much stronger than the one between Lily and Sirius. And always in this perspective, Hermione is Remus, and not only in the role of the other friend. Hermione's loyalty to Harry seems often unjustified, sometimes it seems she would have been friends with Harry and Ron regardless of who they were simply because they accepted her as a friend and she didn't have any. This is a behavior that is reminiscent of Remus' inability to truly critique James and Sirius' questionable behaviors because they accepted him despite his werewolf condition. But then who is Peter? I've seen people say it would be Neville because they are both the losers, and always following the concept of the next generation being better, Neville does better then Peter because he doesn't let his fears turn him into a bad person. It's not even wrong as a concept but Neville is way closer to Ginny than he is to Harry. And then there's Luna. I've seen the people supporting this perspective of the generational parallels claim she would be Snape. Because they are both marginalized weirdos, and Luna does better than Snape because she does not turn into a death eater because of her isolation. Frankly, I'm not particularly convinced by the idea of defining Snape as an emarginate weirdo.
So as you can see, while some parallels can make sense, they always have their limits.
Another relatively popular idea is Ron and Hermione being like James and Lily. I've always found it very weak despite having some valid points. Yes, they are a pureblood and a muggleborn, Ron and Hermione are both prefects like James and Lily are both headstudents, and romione tends to cover quite often the role of surrogate parents for Harry. There's also an element of contrast between the partners. But fundamentally the dynamics are very different. Ron and Hermione have been best friends since age 11, that's definitely not the case for James and Lily. Then of course when you look at the relationship between Harry and the Weasleys, Harry is Sirius and Ron is James.
And to circle back to hinny: while I do not want to encourage the prongsfoot shippers, if you look at Harry and Ginny in terms of chemistry and attitude towards each other, they are James and Sirius, from the non-verbal communication to the banter. If you have ever read the short story Rowling wrote about James and Sirius, you can attest to the fact that those two could have easily been Harry and Ginny.
I think I might have gone quite out of the borders of your ask, but what I wanted to explain is that there are a lot of parallels that could be made between a lot of different characters, and they could be interesting to discuss without turning them into weird bashing theories.
I find that it is also important to distinguish between actual parallels the story makes, and dynamics that are similar simply because they are all written by the same author who, as authors do, has her themes and fixations.
The parallels between hinny and jily certainly exist, some are on purpose, and some are the consequence of how similar Harry and Ginny are. But one thing is for sure, if Harry married one of his parents, he married his father (lol).

“i should still hate you. why can’t I hate you?” for hinny as a prompt please?? :)))
Just angst this time. 😇 Read here or below.
The Coop
Mum is not well enough to assign chores, so Ginny selects some on her own.
She must stay busy, mindless, if not she will go mad.
The first day back at The Burrow, Ginny has to accustom herself to bare walls, an empty living room, the smell of something burnt lingering in the air. She opens the windows wide, makes up the new beds, avoids Fred and George’s old room like the plague. Fleur takes charge of the visitors and the hoards of prepared meals they bring along, and they eat dinner on uncomfortable, conjured furniture, no happiness in magic anymore, no satisfaction of a cushioned seat.
On the second day back, Bill brings home a second-hand dining table with matching chairs, and he sands it all down with a wave of his wand, erasing scrapes marks and mending water rings with ease. Ginny occupies her spare time with staining it all by hand. The mechanical movements thankfully blur her brain, blur time, and when she’s finished, there's dinner, Dreamless Sleep Draught, and bed again.
Three days back now, and she keeps her ears pricked for a voice she longs to hear. After her heart has risen with anticipation and fallen from disappointment a good dozen times, she steers clear of the fireside and locks herself in her room.
It is on the seventh day that she finds Mum sitting at the dining table laden heavily with breakfast dishes. The dirty clothes Ginny had bunched up and left in baskets by the scullery last night are empty, the sound of the washing cauldrons is something of a dull roar in the room.
“It’s six in the morning,” is Ginny’s greeting.
Mum smiles over at her, but it doesn’t reach her eyes. “And you’re dressed for the day.”
“I was going to start breakfast. And laundry.”
What will I do now?
The thought of Death pounds away at her head almost immediately, and perhaps Mum sees the flicker of panic in her eyes…
“Your father is purchasing chickens today.”
Death retreats, but only just, a lingering presence she is all too familiar with.
“Chickens?” she asks dumbly.
Mum nods, offers, “You could muck out the coop.”
That would take hours without a wand.
It was perfect.
After helping herself to a stack of toast and bacon, Ginny heads outside in Percy’s old jean shorts, Ron’s ratty Martin Miggs shirt, and her filthiest pair of trainers. Sweat immediately soaks through her bra upon beginning the hard, disgusting work, yet she’s practically gleeful as she rakes out old hay and droppings, scrubs the little platform down with a brush and rag so thoroughly that it looks virtually unused. And there are still weeds to pull! Grass to trim! Her head is blissfully empty, thank god.
It is after she surveys her work, sees a loose board near the roof of the coop, and climbs in to fix it that it happens: a sudden crack of apparition, close enough to be in the wards. Ginny starts, banging her head on the overhead rafters, and peeks out through the unfastened bit of paneling. With a sharp breath, she pulls away, heart hammering in her chest.
Harry’s here.
She is debating on whether or not to hide in the enclosure until he leaves, escape in favor of another hiding spot, or march into the house and demand to know where he’s been, when she notices movement from her spyhole and sees him again, striding out of The Burrow almost as soon as he’d entered, peering over at the coop quizzically.
Her mother has divulged her location. Bugger it all.
“Ginny?” he calls when he’s only feet away. “Are you… er, are you in there?”
She rubs at her sore head with the heel of her hand and looks down at herself miserably. There was nothing for it.
Grudgingly, she responds, “Yeah. I’ll be right out.”
Wiping the perspiration from her face with the collar of her shirt and wringing her grubby fingers in its hem, Ginny tightens the extra fabric in a little knot at her waist and takes another breath of stale air. She ducks awkwardly out of the hutch and hops down to face him.
She shields her eyes from the sun to squint openly at him. He’s shaved, perhaps yesterday, judging by the amount of stubble around his jaw, and his hair has been trimmed up a few inches, shorter than the style he’d worn when he was fourteen, but longer than subsequent years. His skin is still bordering sickly pale, his cheeks hollow, and the brand-new Auror robes he wears hang somewhat loosely off his shoulders. Her gaze lingers over the straps and brass buckles pulling across his chest.
“Hey,” he says finally.
She waits, not wanting to make this too easy. It’s been a week since Fred’s funeral, a week since she laid eyes on him last. A week too bloody long.
“How are you?”
When she doesn’t answer, Harry blanches.
“Right. Right, um… Ron and Hermione just left. For Australia.”
“Yes, I know. They stopped by last night to tell us.” It takes everything not to hex him, so she asks him instead, hoping to get a rise out of him, “Are you bored?”
His eyebrows furrow. “Bored?”
“That’s why you came by, isn’t it? Because you’re bored?” There’s a real bite to her words, bitterness and anger shaking her voice. “Finally remembered I’m here?”
He struggles for a moment, the very picture of surprised, then says, “This is the first spare moment I’ve gotten since—”
“This is different, you know. You can’t just—” She’d be lucky if she makes any sense. She suddenly can’t string two thoughts together. “Everything is different now. I should still hate you.”
He'd left her, left her, could have been out of her life forever, willingly walked into the Black Forest and left her. Yet somehow, he was here, alive and still, still, there’s not enough time for them. She came second every time, and she wasn’t sure how much longer she could take it.
And god, god, why did it even matter?
Fred was dead.
Ginny’s head spins, and she leans back against the chicken coop for support. “Why can’t I hate you?”
Harry is looking down at his feet, then raises his eyes to scan over the fields of green. His tone is low, quiet, when he says, “I’m sorry.”
Ginny exhales roughly through her nose, exhaustion settling over her like a weighted blanket. She shuts her burning eyes so Harry does not see.
“I’m tired." She hates the way her voice is pitched high and broken. “I’m so fucking tired.”
His hand is gentle, gripping her wrist and pulling her against him. She folds into him and cries.

Hinnymicrofics used to get so many submissions before, these days it just seems like no one wants to submit their posts to hinnymicrofics. Prolly because the moderator had barely bothered to repost their fics. I mean that was the bare minimum that the moderator could have done. Really sad that such a wonderful community with so much potential is being wasted :(((
Hi anon!
The main reason there hasn't been tons of submissions as of late, is because we released no prompts last month, due to both moderator's lives been a bit crazy! But I'm happy to inform you that November prompts are now out, so you can have fun writing some more microfics, or read some of the wonderful Hinny content written each day by other microficers (is that even a word? 🤣)!
I cannot stress enough that we always try our best to repost every microfic. If a microfic hasn't been rebloged after around 24 hours, we might has missed it, and you can send us an ask to let us know that your microfic hasn't been rebloged. Believe it or not, we are humans, and humans don't always get everything perfect! As much as we try not to, sometimes we might miss your microfic, but unfortunately we can only try our best! By letting us know that we haven't rebloged something, you can fix our mistake!
I agree that the hinnymicrofic community is incredible! So many kind, wonderful brilliant writers and readers coming together and having some micro-fun makes me so happy! Now that hinnymicrofic is really thriving, I hope you can have fun doing some Hinny-loving again!
Best wishes - your mods (or in this case Lynne 🤣) 💖

reading | listening | writing | summer '23
sulking in bed with tonsillitis - never had it before, thought i was built different, crushed to discover i am, in fact, built the same (sickly). so thought was overdue a share of some of the fics i have loved that i've read these past few months (even though my TBR remains colossal), as well as some tune/travel updates, a lil writing check in, and a lil sneak peek of chapter eight of Beasts because the ex boyfriends are back, baby!!!

Reading
Bookbinding by @saintsenara (Myrtle/Tom Riddle, AU, 35k, multi-chapter, completed)
look. this is how it's going to go. i'm going to say myrtle/tom riddle AU, you're going to say 'are you right in the head you're a canon compliant girlie kindly get a grip on yourself'. but then you're going to click the link, and read it, and then you'll be chuckling and filled with boundless delight and want to read this stonkingly well-written properly funny rich magical little fic all over again as soon as you've finished and you'll have me to thank for it. it's a rom-com, people. dare you not to be enchanted. their ship name is literally tyrtle? the tag is 'she said: I can fix him! and she's right'. (and then you're going to read this hinny one, also by @saintsenara as a gift to me as a delectable chaser and lose your mind!)
everything i am is yours by @brightlybound (Hinny, AU, 4k, oneshot)
remember when i was like, AUs, not my bag! and then i read a load of AUs and realised i was talking out of my arse? weird. anyway, here is a lovely little hinny AU that i've gone back to a bunch because it's just really beautifully written and deeply charming and actually does something a lot of muggle AUs don't always do, which is play with harry's characterisation ever so deftly to say, hey, harry is harry, but if nothing bad had happened to him and james and lily lived, he'd be a little bit different, wouldn't he? this harry is our harry, but he's just that bit more confident, that bit more capable of digging an active flirt out of his back pocket. and that makes me happy!
The Last Something That Meant Anything by anonymous (Percy POV, Percy/Audrey and Percy/Oliver, short multichapter, 21k, completed)
i have a lot of percy thoughts these days. fanon percy, steeped in weasley bashing, doesn't do very much for me, so i really loved this belter of a percy character study that considers him both within and apart from his family in a way that attends to his trauma and inner life, but also shows the truth: he's not doing well, he does fuck up with a big moral lapse, and then he has work to do - interesting, deep, personal work - to make it right. please check the tags with this one, as it does contain reference to SA, but really do recommend a read if you feel able.
haunted mansion by @bronzeagepizzeria (Sirius-POV, 1.5k, oneshot)
this brilliant short fic really left me with so many sirius feelings: it just gets the claustrophobia and the grief of sirius' last year alive exactly right, and it just has these fabulous cameos that have detonated a thousand deep sirius thought bombs in my head forever. l o v e d it
perpendicular by akissinacrisis (Hinny, AU, 4.5k, oneshot)
harry/ginny AU, where harry goes to stonewall high and meets ginny at a party. it's so tender and beautiful and stiff and sad and understated, and it's really stayed with me. also it does what all good hinny fics must do (have them chatting. just talking, hanging out, shooting the shit together. they just love to chat, those two lil magnets snapping to each other).
empire builders by she-crow (Prongsfoot, possibly canon-compliant but technically AU I guess, 25k oneshot)
i read this laid out beside a lake and needed at least four more days of lying by a lake to think about it. it's a) one of the most beautiful fics i've ever read b) rip your heart out and staple it heart-wrenching and good and c) some of the best sirius and james characterisations i've read that really serves as a manifesto for playing around with marauders multiships to really different characters in such different lights. the other beauty of it is that it could be canon-compliant? like it could be read as a fabulous doomed tragic love affair between two boys completely infatuated with each other and not sure where to put it. and i think that's kind of gorgeous. so yeah uhh big fan
Notes from the Ravenclaw Bulletin Board by lostrobin (Gen, 11k, completed)
this is a fic told through (very funny) little notes on the ravenclaw bulletin board. been thinking a lot about different house dynamics atm and this a) made me laugh out loud and b) really think, you know who is really sound? those ravenclaw kids. love those bookworms. the crookshanks and fred and george cameos really make this, too. you'll zip through it and you'll giggle. there's nothing more to it!
Tumblr media
Listening (while out and about)
i went outside and it looked like this (i like lakes):
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and i listened to things like this:
pink light by muna (saw em live, lost my mind!) | space invader by the national (anthemic) | mountain by the joy (they're too good) | the greater wings (album) by julie byrne (literally stunning) | gorilla by lil simz (best beanie man sample of all time?)

Writing
other than this birthday microfic for mr potter, a bit of tinkering and dawdling with other misc projects that i pick up and put down over and over again, and my usual meta nonsense, i've just been writing Beasts! put four chapters out since last check-in, and am hard at work on chapter eight, which has some of my favourite scenes in the fic so far. we're gearing up for some chapters away from the castle (writing the winter break chapters in august. what am i like!) and some scenes i've been sat on for ages and some others that i'm having so so so much fun writing. i'm a michael corner stan now? who knew?
She lugs the trunk off the bus at the final stop and traipses around the warren of streets in Soho for a while, looking for the address written on the piece of parchment clutched in her hand. Finally, she finds the building, battered door with the doorbell hanging half off, and stands awkwardly in the street, catching her breath, until the machine crackles and a familiar deep voice says: ‘Hello?’ 'Hi, it’s me.’ She clears her throat. ‘It’s Ginny, I mean.’  ‘Oh, hi. Come on up.’  The hallway has an unmistakably damp, squat-like feel about it. Loud laughter spills out of the flat on the first floor, and a group of uni students, squabbling amicably among themselves, parade past her on the second floor staircase as she rings the doorbell and loiters in the corridor, feeling hopelessly out of place. ‘Your hair’s so nice!’ one girl with thick black boots and a face full of piercings says admiringly as she passes by, just as the door to the flat swings open.  ‘Oh, good, you found it. I wasn’t sure you’d be able to.’ ‘Why wouldn’t I be able to?’ Michael rolls his eyes. ‘You know, Ginny, seen as it's Christmas, maybe we could try not to argue before you’ve even set foot in my flat.'
okay, one more 🕺

What's your favourite underrated Hinny fic?
every single one of mine
Slingshots is a fix it fic where Harry and Ginny both go back in time to their 11/10 year old bodies, not intentionally. It is a WIP that is slowly updating, but I have never heard anyone talk about it!
The Protector is a fic from Madame Pince's perspective as the Golden Trio grows up. A short one shot that I just love
take what i took and give it back to you a one shot where Ginny Weasley is Harry Potter's soulmate, but she isn't Harry Potter's. According to Harry. I don't know if it is underrated, but I love it
Back to the Eclipse I will never write a summer post war one shot because I don't think it will top this
Like Passing Notes in Secrecy IT IS SO FLIRTY!! I reread this just to giggle to myself
Through Shadows also a WIP where Harry gets kidnapped after the Triwizard Tournament and only Ginny notices
I am sure there are so many long fics that I love and are considered "underrated" but they are not coming to mind right now
