Note: I'm making this because there's literally almost little about him.
Hiro Hamada HCs
Definitely a lot of dates in the lab instead of outside but he still likes hanging out outside of the lab.
Will literally get you whatever you want as long as he knows how to make it.
Or as long as he's able to afford it.
No matter what.
But he won't tell or present it to you like he made/bought it.
You just left your classroom and headed to your lab to do your homework. It was beside Tadashi's(which is now Hiro's but still Tadashi's) and always has been. Once you enter, Hiro would poke his head out of his lab and take quiet steps towards your lab doors before putting down the thing you wanted but in a box. He knocks on the door before dashing back into his lab, pushing Baymax who was watching the whole time back in. You look up from your book in curiosity and set your pen down before heading towards the door to see who was outside. When you open it, you found nothing until you look down to see a well wrapped box with a little flower on top. You grab the present and see that it's addressed to you before unwrapping it to find the item you've been wanting for a while. Meanwhile, Hiro sits on his beanbag with a proud smirk on his face.
He loves it when you play with his hair or wear his sweater.
He literally melts when he sees you wear it.
Baymax is concerned sometimes because of how much smiling he does when you're around.
He introduced you to his friends and they absolutely adore you. Especially, Honey Lemon and Fred.
Whenever he gets bored, he'd just pick up his phone and call you. When you answer, he'd say; "So bored. Can we hang out?"
Late night or not, he still manages to find ways to hang out with you. Online or not.
During weekends, everytime he goes down to the cafe, he'd wait for you to walk in but if you don't, he'll text you.
If you're sick on weekends, Aunt Cass will make some soup and Hiro will gift it to your parents even though they already made your food.
He'll definitely stay beside you when you're sick. If you sneeze, a tissue is already in his hand, holding it out for you to take and wipe your nose.
If he gets sick, then you'll return the favor and take care of him while Aunt Cass runs the cafe downstairs.
He won't admit he's sick and deny it all the time until he accepts it(which is after 30 minutes).
He only lets you to enter his room even when he's asleep.
When he wakes up, expect a goofy smile on this raven haired boy.
"Hey beautiful/handsome/gorgeous."
Cheesy when he's half asleep.
If you're ever scared, he'd sent Baymax over to comfort when he couldn't. If he could, then he'll go to your room and comfort you himself.
He'll probably wake up later than you but we all sleep late sometimes too so...
During weekdays, he always pick you up at your place, brings you your favorites from The Lucky Cat Cafe before walking to SFIT together.
Or you'd be the one picking him up from his place.
It depends on who's texting who to pick who up.
He loves his bags of gummy bears so you buy some more for him.
He loves you even more.
When you two have to do hero stuff, you always ride with him on Baymax when traveling.
He finds you so good-looking in your hero suit that he nearly draw you on his textbook. Trying to be like Miles Morales.
JK. Definitely draw you.
He loves to take you out on dinner dates because he found them more romantic than lab dates.
Gets seriously worried when something happens to you when you fight bad guys together.
He has magnets on your gloves and shoes like his hero suit just so he can keep you still on Baymax's back.
He loves it when you get so serious in your things like, studying, fighting, gaming, creating something. It shows that you're putting a lot of effort into it and he's proud of it.
Always gets higher score than yours in tests, and sometimes lower. Yours is around 90% all the time thanks to your scheduled study dates every time before final exams or tests. But his? 99% and 89% all the way. Sometimes you both get 100.
He loves PDA but not around Aunt Cass. He gets super flustered but so confident when she or his friends are not around.
Brags about you to Karmi to make her jealous.
Literally never stops.
He just love you so much.
Homemade ice creams!
Especially during summer break.
He wanted to make a machine for it but you prefer making them yourself.
He'll join you once he gets too hot from the heat that he stops half way making it. Just wait.
If it's too long to make, you guys would just use science to make the ice cream freeze quicker.
Has a wall for polaroids of you guys on your dates (takes one on each date).
Mostly only you guys but in some there's Baymax and/or Fred who wants to join in by photo bombing it.
Aunt Cass loves them and likes to ask Hiro which date did you guys go to while pointing at a Polaroid.
The camera is yours but he's the one to keeps the photos.
Always play co-op games with you.
Any kind.
Movie nights neither of you guys are tired.
Holds your hand in public even when doing hero stuff.
Honey Lemon will suggest you what kind of dates you two should do together.
Wasabi is a supporter. When someone is about to intervene, he'd politely ask them to leave so you and Hiro can have some quality time together.
GoGo is proud whenever Hiro makes the first move during your dates.
Tells you who he's with and where he's going to.
He wants you to trust him as much as he trusts you.
Rarely is jealous. But definitely get defensive when someone flirts with you.
If you guys ever argue, he'd be the first one to apologize and you two hug it out.
Makes you vehicle of your choice out of scrap. But no car yet. (Motorcycle, skateboard, scooter, etc)
If you love flowers, he'll buy you seeds for them and you'd give the flowers to Hiro and Aunt Cass. Little flower crowns for Mochi and Baymax, too.
If Hiro ever gets a nightmare. You'd know.
Literally.
Like, he shot up from his sleeping state from his nightmare, panting and sweating cold sweat and you'll just wake up in the middle of the night and say to yourself, "Something just happened."
He's a lot more open to you than he is to his friends.
Loves to share a sweater during winter. And he'll make sure to use the big comfy one.
He adores the view of you in the winter. It warms his heart and his face.
Comforts you whenever you're sad whether you need him or not.
You and the gang plays Just Dance at Fred's house and even- almost- got Clifford to do it.
He makes you your own mini-max that suits your personality.
Video call through your Mini-max and his Baymax if either your phones are charging.
Never sleeps on your sleepovers and ended up fighting to stay awake during the day because you wanted to hang out together.
You guys ended up sleeping in his room and on his bed anyway.
He'd keep every single present you give him because he cherish them.
You'd keep every single present of his and put them to use if they are made for it.
Matching silver necklaces.
Deep conversations on your rooftop.
Skincare together after you both turn 16.
Planning on moving to an apartment that's only a few blocks away from the Lucky Cat Cafe and your house when you turn 20.

Don’t slut up that college
Btw if you’ve watched the show and if you look (not that close) you will find a lot of Euphoria references.
“I want to look like attractive but not desperate. Like im begging to make a move.” Tadashi help a hanger with a loose light green short sleeve button up. In a few minutes he’d be leaving to spend the night with this girl he’d been talking to for a while who lived in the dorms of another campus. SFIT didn’t allow foreign students on their campus unless they were being considered for a spot there so it was easier for him to go over to y/n’s place.
In order to get complete, unbiased, and a mixture of different opinions he’d invited his entire clique over to his hour to help him pack. Along with his little brother listening by accident of course.
Gogo coughed into the crease of her elbow, “I don’t think she’s going to look at any of your clothes and think: Oh my god he’s trying to fuck me.”
“LANGUAGE!” Tadashi scolded, referring to the much younger college students behind the paper room divider.
She popped her hand over her mouth, “Oops, sorry.”
Hiro removed one of his headphones from where he’d been watching some dumb youtube video on his bed and called out, “It’s all good Gogo!”
Honey pointed out, “I like it. I think you look very presentable and casual. Like it’s enough to go out, but not too over the top.”
“Yeah,” Wasabi, who was sitting on the floor right next to his friend’s bed agreed. “Besides, I think muted colors and calm patterns make you look clean.”
Tadashi was holding onto the hanger and placing it in front of his torso as if he was actually wearing it before turning around.
“Fred.”
The blonde looked up, squinted for a few moments before responding. “It’s nice. Suits you really well.”
With a sigh, Tadashi took the shirt off the hanger and rolled it up into a log before gently placing it inside his backpack. He needed help planning out this weekend. Over the course of the months Y/n and Tadashi had been talking he thought he’d made it abundantly clear that he really liked her. And he had, but he also wanted her to know that he took her seriously. So showing up to the two-day mini vacation they planned dressed like a bum was not an option. He liked this girl and was very committed and devoted to her and he was going to act like it.
Just then, the door to the boys shared bedroom swung open with a creaking noise. Their Aunt Cass was standing in the doorway holding their newly groomed cat like a baby in her arms.
“Hey Auntie.” Hiro greeted her without looking up. The rest followed in saying hello.
Aunt Cass walked into the room before looking around at all the clothes spread out on her oldest nephews bed.
“I want you to know I’m putting a lot of trust into you. Letting you go out.” Aunt Cass pointed her finger at Tadashi before dropping Mochi the cat and letting him run to sit on Honey’s lap for ear scratches.
From the other side of the divider Hiro laughed and said, “Yeah Tadashi, don’t get her pregnant!”
Aunt Cass grabbed one of Tadashi’s shirt and threw it at Hiro’s face. “That’s not funny, Hiro.”
The boy’s smirk wiped off but quickly returned when his aunt looked back at his older brother with a serious tone. “No seriously, do not get her pregnant.”
“Relax Auntie,” Tadashi zipped up his backpack. “She has a roommate.”
“Mmmhmm, listen to me. I want you to keep your phone on you, make sure your ringer is on all the time. If you go out and when you come back I want you to take a photo of you in the room with a working clock in it.” She pointed her finger in his face.
Despite him being an adult, she still worried. After the deaths of their parents, she’d been intrusted with the care of her beautiful boys. And if she’d lost them, lost on of their parents babies, how was she supposed to forgive herself for that?
Everyone’s jaw had dropped at her demanding request.
“What the hell?” Gogo was laughing into her palm.
Wasabi looked up at Aunt Cass, “You mean like a ransome photo?”
Completely falbberagsted, Tadashi laughed out breathlessly with his mouth hung open, “I hate you, did you know that?”
“Aww well I love you.” She wrapped her arm around her (much taller) nephew.
Tadashi wrapped both of his arms around her torso like a little kid and tucked his head into her, “I love you, too.”
Tadashi was getting ready to leave in a matter of a few more minutes. He’d been lent the family’s truck for the weekend for him to use. Not very hot to have to ride around on a moped with your date.
“Okay, have fun rockstar.” Aunt Cass and the rest of the clique including Hiro followed him out as he was getting ready to pull the truck out of the alley behind their garage. Once he was in and the engine was turned on, his entire friend group started making vaguely sexual gestures toward him behind his Aunt’s back. Which then prompted Hiro to shout at the top of his lungs:
“DON’T SLUT UP THAT CAMPUS!”
Aunt Cass slapped him in the back of the head.
The rest of the farewells consisted of ‘be a gentleman’ or ‘tell her we said hi’. It wasn’t until everyone but Aunt Cass had gone back inside the café that she carefully whispered to herself as she watched the truck drive further away:
“Don’t you dare get her pregnant.”
*******************
“Okay, how do I look?” You turned around with your arms spread wide for your roommate to judge.
This would be the first time Tadashi would be sleeping over and for two day you’d never have to say goodnight. Obviously, this was not your first date with him. You guys’s first date was a trip to the botanical gardens where he insisted on taking a million pictures of you and posting them on every social media platform he had (Instagram, that’s it) with the caption ‘someone’s someone”. And ever since you two have been non-stop talking. He’s the first person to wish you a good morning and he’s the last person to tell you goodnight. He just feels right, he might be it.
Your roommate, getting high off her cherry coke-flavored vape kissed her teeth. “Like a bad bitch.”
“Oh my god,” You laughed dropping your face in your hands. “ Thank you for that, but can you come up with another one?”
“Why? You look like a bad bitch. End of story.”
You scoffed, “Yes, and thank you but I feel like he’s not that kind of guy.”
“What the fuck does that mean?”
“I just mean like he’s not one to call girls bad, or fine. Hell, he has the hardest time saying the word sexy. To him, it’s a cuss word. So, other than a bad bitch is there anything else I can pass off as?”
Your roommate breathed out a cloud of scented smoke, “An angel.”
“Aww thank you.”
“What are you guys even doing tonight?” She asked from her side of the room.
You grabbed your beauty blender and started to fix some things, “Umm we’re just gonna hang out. Grab food, walk around, and then come back here to watch a movie.”
“Watch a movie, or watch a movie?
You rolled your eyes. “You’re actually done.”
“How long till Netflix asks if you’re still watching?” She raised her eyebrows suggestively.
You argued with your roommate, “He’s not the kind of guy.”
“Oh really? What campus does he go to? OMG PLEASE TELL ME HE’S NOT IN A FRAT!”
You gagged at the thought of dating a frat boy. “Ew no, that’s such an ick!”
“So where does he go? Here?”
You shook your head and started going through your collection of jewelry to decipher what would look best with your outfit. “No, he goes to SFIT. He’s a- a robotics major.”
“Ooooh she got herself a nerd!” She laughed in your ear. “How’d you guys meet anyways?”
You thought about that day and a sly smile plastered on your face. A few months ago, one of the girls in your dorm was transferring to SFIT because she couldn’t afford to attend there all four years and a lot of you wanted to show out to the student showcase to support her getting in. There is where you meet a tall boy in a baseball cap with eyes are brown as freshly brewed coffee and honey-baked skin. Needless to say, he was very cute, and the girl with the e/c eyes from the party college across town wasn’t too bad looking at all. And his inflatable healthcare robot was quite the snitch when his heart rate started speeding up around you. What started off as exchanging numbers with and texting a boy from a college across town, turned into wanting to see him all the time, going out on dates, doing homework together, staying up all hours of the night to talk to each other, and sent photos and videos once. And you two wouldn’t have had it any other way.
“Oh shit,” Your phone dinged. “He’s here. Which me luck!”
You grabbed your keys, kicked your shoes on, and started out the door when your roommate shouted back at you, “Good luck, boo-boo!”
In order for him to really be allowed on campus he needed a student to accompany him so it was vital you were on time so they wouldn’t ban him for trying to trespass. Also because you were just like, really excited to see him.
Across the parking lot, in the blue-purple lit sky decorated with the twinking and flashing electric lights of the crazy industrialized city, Tadashi could be found pacing back in forth behind the long tail of the light blue rusty work truck. The second he came into sight, swinging his keys in his hand while he waited for you, you straightened your arms and sped walked towards him.
“Hey, luv!” You smiled at him.
He thought your smile was the most beautiful in the world. All the things you posted wearing more dark makeup with eyeliner wings sharp enough to cut someone were no doubt attractive, but there was something about the photos you were always smiling. Like the time you two went to the aquarium and a little otter named Silvia grew very fond of you. Swimming around and following you around the tank. You smiled so much that date that all the photos he took of you took up almost five percent of his photo memory.
Tadashi quickly turned around to look you in the eye. “Hi-wow you’re so beautiful.”
“Aww thank you.” He embraced you in a hug and took a moment to just take you in. The way your perfume smelled, what your hair smelled like, the different textures of your clothes. Everything mattered. Nothing but you.
The entire time you were driving around, talking and enjoying your time together Tadashi felt like he couldn’t be happier. However, at the same time he could have sworn that he was going to be sick to his stomach. Everytime you touched his hand like you’d done a thousand times before it still made his stomach flip in ways that were questionable to human physiology. Since it was a Saturday, everyone had their boyfriends and girlfriends over and all restaurants on campus were fully booked. It’s not like you and Tadashi were huge fans of sit downs despite your first date being at a sit down.
Instead, the two of you went down to the strip near the pier where the countless food vendors were backed up almost a hundred people each. Where you could watch the sea lions bask in the sunset, kids flying kites, a couple sharing ice creams, and a friendgroup celebrating a birthday with a picnic.
“Wait a second, you surf?!” You screeched while holding onto a stick of takoyaki in one hand and a blue raspberry frozen lemonade in the other.
Laughing, Tadashi answered, “Yeah, I have a surfboard in my room. Haven’t you seen it?”
“No, what the hell? Why am I just now finding out about this?” You playfully elbowed him in the arm.
“Well I haven’t gone in super long. So right now my boards just collecting dust.”
You bolding walked closer to him and placed you head on his shoulder as you walked. “If you ever plan on going again, will you teach me?”
“Of course, so that one day we can go surfing together.”
You held out your pinky, “Do you promise?”
“I promise.” Tadashi interlaced his pinky with yours and kissed the back of his fist.
You two sat on a park bench to simply listen to the natural environment of the city and the sloshing of the sea on the pier’s structure.
“So,” Tadash turned his body towards you. “How are you?”
“Same as the other million times you’ve asked me.” You laughed. That was the first thing Tadashi asked when you guys talked. How you were doing, or if there ws anything you wanted to share. To him, understanding every bit of the mind he’d grown to find so much beauty and adventure in was always the objective. The purpose of the experiment that was the relationship he was chasing after.
“Sorry, sorry,” He raised his hands in defeat.
Though you assured him it was fine you still wondered something. “How come you like asking me questions about myself? Like I ask you things and you answer them, but then you shift back to me. Why do you do that?”
How was he supposed to tell her that he wanted her to understand that he truly wanted her to be with him without sounding like a creep? Just earlier he’d asked all his friends what clothing made him seem like less of a weirdo, and now she was asking a question he was scared she may not want the answer to. At any moment during his answer she could get up adn walk away. What if she just wanted to take it slow, or maybe she didn’t want to date date him at all. She could just be exploring and the idea that he might weight her down could make her leave.
“Uhh,” He laughed nervously. “I just want you to make sure you know I care and take you seriously. I think I’m like pretty good about communicating with people but sometimes, I don’t know.”
You knew what he was talking about. When Hiro was a botfighter, he was constantly in dangerous situations. It was such a difficult time that really did push their limits to the test. The entire household had huge blowout arguments and breakdowns at least twice a month and it was ruining everyone. Hiro had made Aunt Cass cry without trying and the fourteen-year-old’s mental health was in such a decline they were starting to question whether or not he had some clinical disorders. During all of this, Tadashi kind of just watched. Granted he tried to be the mediator, and was always there for Hiro physically but when it came to him trying to express he just couldn’t. It’s not like he didn’t have anything to say, but it was like the words had been taken from him. What he really wanted to say just wouldn’t come out. Maybe if it had Hiro would have stopped a long time ago and there wouldn’t be a scar on their family dynamic.
For everytime he’d had one of these breakdowns he didn’t want to talk to someone that wasn’t you. You just got him, he felt it. He doesn’t worry about telling you and then you bringing it up all the time, or trying to give him counseling, if you’re going to judge him for being so weak he let his own family fall apart even if it was just for a period of time. All the things wrong with his mind and his thinking, you soothed.
You placed your hand on his, with nothing more to say. That’s how right this was. No words needed. You got him and he got you.
“You want to know how I am?”
He nodded and with a whisper answered, “I really do.”
In a whisper you answered close to his face. “I’m really fuckin’ happy right now.”
On his parents memory, Tadashi has never been so forward before. But something about the moment made it feel right. He leaned in and grabbed the back of your head. Like he was going to drop dead of a heart attack right that second if he didn’t kiss you. This wasn’t your guys’ first kiss, but it was the most intimate and dramatic.
With your foreheads pressed to each other he whispered, “Y/n.”
“Yeah?”
“D-Do you like, umm,” God he was such a fucking idiot. How old was he? Eleven? “Do you want to be my girlfriend?”
You ran your hand through his fine black hair and leaned back with a look of content on your face. “I already am.”
Now, nor you or Tadashi ever really told anyone what really happened on that first night in your empty dorm. Despite the thousands of questions you’d kept it to yourself. All they needed to know was that you were his and he was yours.

Pairing: Hiro Hamada x Reader Warnings: Mentions of alcohol. Aged up characters. Notes: Look, I just thought this was cute, okay? Sickeningly sweet, even. Anyway, I'm gonna go watch Youtube now. There's still much more to come for all the characters I write for goddamnit. Hope you enjoy this!
— — — — — — — — — —
"𝙸 𝚑𝚊𝚟𝚎 𝚕𝚘𝚟𝚎𝚍 𝚢𝚘𝚞 𝚜𝚒𝚗𝚌𝚎 𝚠𝚎 𝚠𝚎𝚛𝚎 𝙴𝚒𝚐𝚑𝚝𝚎𝚎𝚗."
— — — — — — — — — —
Hiro knew that he was deeply, utterly, and irreversibly in love with you when he was 18.
Maybe even before that, if he was being perfectly honest with himself. Why he never made the first move was obvious. Who'd risk their friendship all for what he dubbed as a 'silly crush'?
No, no, no. He'd rather keep you as a friend. Friends are reliable and safe. Take Gogo and the gang for example. They were there during his darkest times.
But you. You were different. You never once gave up on him. Like when you barreled up the stairs to his attic room during his grieving period for Tadashi's death, forcing him to drink that disgusting nutritious smoothie you'd made. All because you cared for him. Even back when he entered that portal to save Alistair’s daughter, to when he started his first semester in SFIT. You were there through it all.
Maybe that's when it started.
All he knows though, is that he only came to the realisation that he was madly in love with you during his 18th birthday last week.
"Happy birthday Hiro! Finally the big one-eight, huh?" Hiro chuckles with a wince when Fred all but jumps onto his back with a loud cheer.
He offers his friend a drink. "Thanks."
"Oh, if Tadashi were here, he'd be so proud of you," Honey Lemon gushes, handing him his gift. He takes it, grateful to see all his friends for the party Cass decided to throw. With it being last minute and all he hadn’t expected most of them to show. Now all that’s left is for the last guest to arrive.
"Thanks Honey Lemon. The rest are upstairs right now." He informs them, knowing full well that Gogo was probably already pouring a glass of beer in the kitchen and chatting with Cass.
"Hey Honey Lemon," He gently grabs the girl's arm, stopping her from following an over-excited Fred. "Have you seen her...?"
"She just messaged me saying that she's on the way, Hiro." She assures him with an all-knowing smile. He huffs a small sigh of relief, glad that you're still coming even after your small fight with him the day before.
"You should really just confess to her already."
"There's nothing to confess," He laughs nervously, running a hand through his hair.
"Could've fooled me." He turns to see Gogo, Wasabi, and Fred standing at the doorway to the stairs that lead up to the living area. Gogo takes another large sip of beer from her cup, her deadpan remark from earlier causing a flood of warmth to reach Hiro's ears.
"I don't know what you're talking about."
"Dude," Wasabi shakes his head, "You've been in love with her ever since you were like, what, 14? Don't deny it. We all see the way you look at her."
"I look at her like I look at Fred!" He denies vehemently.
"You look at Fred like he's stupid." Honey Lemon pops a lozenge into her mouth.
"Exactly." Hiro smirks, crossing his arms. A knock on the door makes him turn, his lips curling into a wide smile when he sees you standing outside.
He opens the door, ready to greet you with a hug when he spots the man next to you. His smile immediately fades, confusion replacing his earlier happiness. You turn and say a quick goodbye to him, waving him off before stepping into the cafe and giving Hiro a quick hug.
The scent of your shampoo overwhelms his senses, but he’s still oddly guarded against this new guy that was watching the entire exchange happen. He doesn’t know what overcomes him, wrapping his arms around you with some sort of possessive squeeze, eyes narrowing into a subtle glare. The guy who accompanied you studies him with a raised brow, letting out a huff before leaving.
“Hiro?” He finally releases you from his hold after you tap his arms.
“Hey,” He greets you simply, letting out a breathy chuckle at the sight of your flushed cheeks from the cold night. Your hands are in his, and he hopes that they get warm so you don’t fall sick. Being physically fit and having a strong immune system are not the same thing, and you’re the embodiment of that.
“Happy birthday,” You remove your hands from his, handing him a small packaged gift. He takes it from you, pressing his lips together to keep himself from smiling wider than he already is. He takes a deep breath to calm himself, distracting himself by snatching the beanie off your head.
You narrow your eyes into a playful glare before sighing. “Thanks, here’s my coat and bag too.” You hand him both items, dumping them in his outstretched arms with a smirk.
He watches you walk off to enthusiastically greet everyone. They all welcome you with big hugs and warm smiles, Gogo offering you a sip of her beer. You decline it politely and she shrugs, downing the rest.
He follows everyone upstairs, heading to his bedroom where he sets down your gift on his table with the rest. He arranges the coat to rest on his chair, placing the bag in the seat before he spots something inside. In your hurry to make it on time, you forgot to zip it up properly before handing it to him.
He gently pulls the white strip of paper, suppressing a laugh when he realises what it is. A strip of photos that you two had taken in a photobooth together is in his hands. He still remembers that day when you dragged him out of the house to “touch some grass” as you’d so eloquently put it.
You had dragged him to a mall, where you both watched Frozen 2 together. He had to buy the tickets as usual, but he didn’t really mind if that meant you would enjoy the movie. You bought the snacks, munching away on the popcorn even though it was intended to be shared by the both of you.
He didn’t really mind that either.
So when you both exited the cinema to see a photobooth, you gasped excitedly and grabbed his wrist, tugging him along. He groaned when you placed a reindeer headband on his head but didn’t take it off. After all, how could he deny your request when your eyes sparkled, filled to the brim with happiness? You then raved about how cheap it was, only paying a total of 7 bucks for 2 photo strips.
He took one, and so did you.
His is on a corkboard above his desk, a thumbtack pinning it above all the rest of the group photos taken together. There was another photo where the both of you had hot chocolate moustaches during Christmas, caught off guard by the sudden flash from Fred’s camera.
Huh. Maybe he is in love with you after all.
He puts the strip of photos back in your bag, zipping it up tightly so it wouldn’t fall out before heading back down to the kitchen where he spots you sitting down next to the windowsill. He makes his way over, grabbing two cups. One filled with cola, and one filled with cider.
"So, this is new," Hiro hums, handing you the cup filled with cola. You take it from him gratefully, starting to sip away. “Never saw him around before.”
"Yeah," you laugh, sparing him no detail of how you first got together with Max. He had been your lab partner and over time you just got closer until he asked you out last week. You had hesitantly accepted, unsure why an unknown tugging in your chest makes you feel uncomfortable doing so. But you simply brushed it aside, because why not?
"He seems...nice."
"He is," You reply lightheartedly, a warm smile on your lips  "How about you though?" you nudge his side with a laugh. "When're you gonna find a girlfriend, huh?"
He chuckles. "What makes you think I don't have one?"
"Please," You scoff, eyeing him with a sarcastic look. "You'd be bragging non-stop if you did."
"Yeah, you're right," He admits. "Here, I'll get you a refill." He swipes the now empty cup from your hand, striding off to the kitchen counter. You watch him leave with a soft smile, leaning on your elbow. He greets Gogo and Honey Lemon with a nudge to their sides, the both of them welcoming him into the conversation. He falls into it so easily, talking gaily with a twinkle in his eyes.
You study the way he bends down to listen, and his messy hair falling into his eyes as he laughs. You forget how quickly he'd grown up. His growth spurt had hit him like a truck, and puberty had just made his voice a little deeper though it still had the same mischievous undertones as he did when he was 14.
You forgot exactly how grown up he'd become. Have you always seen him as his 14 year old self?
"You could always just confess."
The sudden voice startles you out of your thoughts, letting out a yelp at Fred's appearance. Hiro looks up, his attention drawn to you after hearing your surprised yelp. You shake your head to signal that you're fine, his wide eyes softening in response before he resumes his conversation with Gogo.
"That was ages ago," you hissed in embarrassment, turning to face the window. Fred plops into the seat opposite you with a raised brow. "It's not like I still had that fat crush on him when I was a teenager."
“You’re right,” Fred agrees, taking a nonchalant sip from his cup before continuing. “It’s only gotten worse.”
"It has not," you deny hotly, feeling the flush work its way up your neck and into your cheeks, burning at the insinuation.
"Mmhm," Fred nods slowly. "Sure it hasn't. Don't think I forgot all about your little rants."
Crap. You wish you could delete the memory of your pining for Hiro from his memory. Sure, it'd been a couple times when Fred had been your listening ear. Or Wasabi. Or Honey Lemon. Or Gogo.
Everyone knows.
The realisation makes you cringe, sliding deeper into your seat and covering your face with your hands. You desperately wish the ground would just swallow you whole.
"With that reaction, I highly doubt it ever faded," Fred chuckles at the dismayed state you're in.
"Is something wrong?" You tense at the familiar voice, peeking through your fingers to see the bemused smile on Hiro's lips as he stands between you both with two red plastic cups in his hand.
"Nope, nothing's wrong amigo. Just a little girl talk," Fred winks, patting your shoulder as he stands up to leave.
Hiro laughs. "Right." He watches Fred walk away before sitting down opposite you. You sit back up straight, hands away from your face and gripping the cup he hands to you a little too forcefully. Hiro's eyes study you, trying to put together the puzzle pieces. You recognise the look in his eyes - it's similar to when he's trying to find the source of a problem in his invention.
"I'm not a robot. Or Baymax," You remind, taking a sip of cold cola. The cool beverage trickles down your throat as you swallow, and you press the cup against your cheeks, hoping to cool them down faster.
"That's a very smart observation."
"Shut up," you retort playfully.
"So, how long have you guys been together?" Hiro asks, the words foreign on his tongue. He never pictured you with anyone else but him before, and seeing Max was a bit of a shock to his pleasant night. It kinda dimmed it a little too.
"Not really together," you say, "We’re kinda still in the talking stage. He asked me out to the movies." You don't really know what prompted you to deny your relationship, even though technically you guys aren’t really together yet since it’d only been your second date so far with him before Hiro’s birthday party.
"Oh?" Hiro's interest is piqued. He leans forward. "Which movie?"
"The Nun," You shudder.
"Seriously?" Hiro dissolves into laughter, shaking his head and wiping the tears from his eyes at your disgruntled state. "But you hate horror movies!"
"Yeah," you sigh, taking another sip. "But he was really apologetic about it and the tickets were already bought, so..."
"Right. You went with him so you wouldn't waste the money." Hiro guesses, and he must've hit the nail on the head from the way your lips purse when he's right about something.
"Maybe."
"Aww, it's okay," he coos playfully, reaching over and ruffling your hair with his hand. You swat it away, trying to fix the hair you'd put so much effort into before coming (though you'll never tell him that). "We'll watch Elemental next weekend so you can cry it out. Again." He offers.
"It's not my fault I cry easily at stuff! Besides, Ember's entire journey struck a chord in my heart, okay?" You defend yourself, crossing your arms.
"Sure. If anything, I'd say you're more of a Wade."
"You mean gentle, kind, and caring? Thanks," You reply swiftly, batting your eyelashes at him with a smirk. "You're kinda a Clod yourself."
"Says you, at least he has confidence." Hiro argues back. "And Wade's a crybaby."
"He is not," You gasp, laying your hand over your heart in mock offence. "he's just very in touch with his emotions."
Hiro's deadpan stare makes the corners of your mouth twitch, trying to suppress the smile that threatens to take over. Judging from the twinkle in his eye, he's doing the same.
"Whatever," You scoff, finally allowing the genuine smile to blossom. God, how you’ve missed this stupid boy.
Hiro watches you with sincere interest, not allowing his gaze to wander away from you even once as a grin plays on his lips. God, how he’s missed this annoying girl.
"They're sickening." Gogo whispers, 3 cans of beer already emptied around her as she sips on her fourth. "They both need to woman up already."
"Don't worry," Wasabi chuckles, watching you both continue to talk intently with huge smiles on your faces. "I have a feeling that they just need a little more time."
— — — — —
The cafe bell chimes, signalling yet another customer’s presence.
Hiro slides his phone back into his pocket. Oh well, guess he'd check his assignments later. Upon looking up however, he's grateful that he didn't opt out of helping Cass with the cafe today.
He clears his throat. "What can I get you today?"
"One iced latte please."
"And would you like that with, or without the server? That's me." He adds hurriedly in a whisper.
"With, you dumbass." You laugh. He's fully enraptured by the sound, eyes watching the amused smile on your lips, and the way your eyes crease when you laugh.
"I'll be right with you then." He sets off to make the latte hurriedly, already planning on using his break time to spend it with you instead.
"So, how's the boyfriend?" He asks politely, sliding into the seat opposite yours with your drink. Something sharp twists itself deeper into his chest, making him shift uncomfortably. He forces a courteous smile, trying to act as if it doesn’t bother him even now.
"Oh, him?" You muse, fingernail tapping against the plastic cup. "We broke up."
"Oh?" Whatever sharp object that was twisting deep into his heart starts to ease away bit by bit, allowing him to breathe just a little easier. He forces down the pleased smile that almost starts to form from your reply, letting sympathy take its place. "What happened?"
"I don't know, I just..." You sigh, eyes trained on the droplets of water that had formed due to condensation on the side of the plastic cup.
It's silent for a while. You distract yourself by stirring the drink so that the milk and espresso blend together, forming a light, milky brown in the cup. You take a small sip, trying to ignore the way his all-knowing stare bores holes into your head as if he’s already read your mind. Knowing him though, he probably didn’t. Probably. You can never tell what invention he might be testing on you.
Hiro merely waits patiently, knowing that all you needed was a little time before you'd cave and tell him everything.
"We just weren't that compatible," You admit.
"Really? I would never have guessed from the way he brought you to watch The Nun for your first date," Hiro says sarcastically, wincing when your glare is now directed at
him. "Sorry." He apologises with his hands raised in surrender.
He places them back down, noticing how your lips part as if you're about to say something, but instead hesitate. "What's wrong?" He asks gently.
"He also said...He knew that he isn't my priority. He said that he knows....someone else is." You say slowly, cheeks awash with a burnt pink as it works its way up your neck and into your cheeks and ears. You can't bring yourself to look at him, the words you just admitted out loud already a confession in itself.
Hold on.
Hold on.
Hiro's mind is reeling at the words you've just uttered. His eyes are focused on your flushed cheeks (it’s not his fault you look so pretty) as his mind is completely blown to tiny, incomprehensible pieces in his head.
"Uh...I...uh...well…"
"This was a mistake," You mumble, taking the cup and standing up, ready to leave. You're slightly amused at the sounds coming out of Hiro's mouth, but maybe now's not the time. Especially after a (somewhat) fresh breakup. "Thanks for the coffee," You start to make your way to the exit, a hand on the glass door before it's covered by another larger one.
"Wait."
You turn, your breath hitching when you're met with a rather broad chest covered in a thin red shirt underneath the denim apron Cass always makes all her staff wear. Your eyes slowly trail up his flushed neck to see Hiro staring down at you with wide eyes, stuttered breaths barely leaving his lips.
He didn't know what to say. God, he has no idea what to say. Why is he saying nothing? Stupid, useless brain.
But even though he couldn't form a comprehensive sentence of simple words strung together, even though for once in his life, he knows what he wants, all he knows is that he can't let you leave the cafe. Not now.
His body moves faster than his brain, jolting out of his seat and racing toward you. His hand reaches out, gently covering yours before you can push past the glass door of the cafe.
"Wait." He can barely comprehend himself speaking, his mind blank once your eyes meet his. His lips part and close, still trying to muster up the courage. To do what, exactly? He doesn't know.
He's an engineer, a programmer, and a superhero. He can do anything! He saved the city of San Fransokyo once or twice already, so why is this so hard?
Why is it so difficult to just ask?
He sees the hope in your eyes diminish, and that's when he knows he's hesitated for too long. You look back down, tucking your hair behind your ear. "I'll see you soon, Hiro." You say quietly, turning back around.
"This Sunday." The words fall past his lips before he realises what he's saying.
"What?" He's got your attention. It's now or never.
"This Sunday," He repeats, a little more confidently this time. "Elementals. And dinner."
"...In the cafe?" A slight gleam of amusement is back in your eyes, a small smile playing on your lips.
"No," He shakes his head with a breathy laugh, "Outside. At a restaurant. You and me."
"Like a date?"
He lifts his head, grinning widely at the genuine smile you finally allow onto your face.
"Like a date."

||Light 'em Up|| Prologue
Summary: She saved Hiro from bullies and then punched Tadashi when she thought he was one too. She calls herself Hiro's caretaker, and became Tadashi's best friend. Now she attends the same Institute as Tadashi as a robotics student. She's Sakura dubbed Cherry Blossom by Fred. She's Hiro's partner in crime, when it comes to annoying his brother and Tadashi's best friend. Pairing: Tadashi Hamada x Sakura Kamiya(OC) Rating || Genres || Warnings: T. Romance. Angst. Hurt/Comfort. Adventure A/N: I've written this for the longest time and figured it was time to start uploading this here! So enjoy!
"So was that everyone on your little Nerd Team?"
Hiro asked cheekily as he stood beside his brother, helmet in hand. They had just stepped out of the Institute, after meeting everyone, and were about to head home. His older brother grinned and nodded, putting his own helmet on.
"Yup!" He started the Moped as he counted his friends on his fingers one by one.
"Gogo. Fred. Honey. Wasabi. And..." His eyes widened with disbelief with a hint of fear, as he paled and breathed out.
"Oh crap!"
Hiro's smile widened all the more when his brother was almost immediately cut off by a loud shout from the top of the stairs.
"Tadashi Hamada!"
Both brothers turned to look at the stairs where a figure was walking towards them, their steps quick and determined. Tadashi seemed to shrink where he sat on his mopped, while his younger brother, with his helmet still on, waved excitedly.
"Hiya Sakura!"
Immediately a bright smile was directed towards him.
"Hello Hiro!"
The younger boy was then swept into a giant bear hug by the girl. She lifted him off his feet, the both of them laughing before she deposited him back on the ground looking at him, her eyes shining.
"Oh its so good to see you! Its been almost three days since I last saw you. I was worried when I got Tadashi's text about the Bot Fight. Why did you even go there anyway? No wait! What were you thinking?! For being a smart kid that was pretty dangerous and stupid Hiro."
As she spoke she started to turn his head around, eyeing him from head to toe.
"You're not hurt are you? If it were up to me I would glue that helmet to your head."
She laughed rapping her knuckles smartly against the object. Worry and concern was written all over the older girl's face as she inspected him for any kind of bruises or even a scratch.
"Seriously are you okay though?"
Her voice was soft, violet eyes laced with concern as she looked at Hiro in the eye.
"I'm okay, Sakura!"
Hiro said pushing her hands away gently, with a grin. He knew how the older girl could get with him. She was always checking up on him and making sure he was eating properly and sleeping well. Whenever he was about to try out one of his new inventions she would make sure to be just around the table, that was put up to protect them if need be, with a first aid kit and a fire extinguisher. He didn't mind though. He loved the attention and Sakura loved to take care of him. Smiling lightly Sakura stood up straight, ruffling his hair, making it messier than ever.
"I know you're okay, Squirt!"
Hiro protested laughingly batting away her hands.
"H-hey Sa-kura."
A small voice called out. The girl turned, her long pony tail swishing around her head with the movement, to look at the older Hamada brother, her face completely devoid of any emotion. Beside her the younger Hamada brother grinned slyly as he stood behind the black haired girl, partly hidden. His eyes relayed a single message to the victim.
"You are so dead, bro!"

“And then I see you... And I love you all over again.”
Tags: midnight talks; closure; kinda painful ig; unrequited love (or is it)
Summary: Sometimes, we all try to find peace in the midst of the chaos that is happening within our lives. But how can you find chaos if the same person that brings you that same problem is also someone that you find hard to let go?
Word Count: 2697 words
The moon shined brightly above the horizon, in its full glory, putting those who are a witness to her beauty in a tranquil daze at such a magical encounter. The dark surroundings were slightly luminated by her gentle light, bringing forth to the vision little details of the path to the city and silhouette of the trees that, at that hour, seemed like they hold such mysterious secrets kept for decades. The stars twinkled and danced along side the bright luminous moon, shining on their own rhythm, singing to the light of their almighty companion.
You felt the kiss of the evening breeze, which in turn made you hug your ukulele. You let your gaze wander through the dark silhouettes of the sleeping city, the sound of the insects humming in a choir in the distance serving as your accompaniment to the acoustic music that you were trying to create at that hour. 'My', you thought to yourself,  'I wonder what's in store for me?'
Through the moment of silent contemplation, and the staring and trying to make sense of the silhouettes painted in the distance, your fingers found itself lingering on to the frets of the instrument that you held tightly between your grasps. With clueless hands and a wandering mind, you let whatever music that may be produced from your thoughtless fingertips on for the silence of the world to hear. With each motion, the small scarf tied to the neck of the ukulele made a little moving motion, slightly tickling your leg. Shifting slightly from your position, you continued on to play to the insects and the darkness.
Mindlessly, you found yourself playing the intro of a song you know by heart. As if on instinct, your hands knew the correct tempo, the precise rhythm, and the correct placement of the chords that you didn't have to take a second glance to know where your fingertips were at, because your heart knew where to place them. And with each breath you took serving as the metronome for the rhythm and the tempo.
Your phone then rang, throwing you off of the daze that you found yourself caught on. You glanced at the contact saw that it was Hiro. Smiling a bit, you placed your phone on the window sill and answered the call. You pressed the speaker button and smiled as his voice soon filled the silence of your solitude.
"Hello," you greeted.
"Hey," he replied, his voice noticeably deep.
"How was your nap?" You asked with a little giggle. He chuckled and you could hear a yawn from the other side, signifying that he just, indeed, woke up from his nap.
"Shouldn't you be sleeping? It's already late."
You giggled a bit and eyed the moon up above, humming a bit before answering his query. "The moon's beautiful tonight."
Your hand began to strum your ukulele. You let a few notes hang in the air for a moment, before you began to hum along the lyrics of the song that you were playing earlier. Somehow, you found yourself being sucked into the small world that the melody brought forth, and you almost forgot that you were in the phone with someone.
"Hold on, I have to grab something," he said, which then somehow snapped you out of the little reverie you caught yourself onto. You could hear the shuffling of the covers from the other line and you hummed in acknowledgement. Continuing to strum your ukulele, the pattern over the past second became more and more consistent, and each strum becoming more and more familiar. You waited for the cue and then began sing the first lines of the song Heavy Crown by Trixie Mattel.
"Heavy head and a heavy crown, had a few since you came to town. Where are you gonna keep them still?"
"Winning's losing with a couple strings, it's a choosing between two things. It's a two-piece suit or all the frills."
You giggled a bit when your finger strummed the wrong string. You then paused and eyed the moon above, continuing on with your contemplation all the while waiting for the other person form the other side of the line to come back.
"Why'd you stop?" Hiro suddenly spoke.
His question made you blink. Needing a moment to process his question, you stayed silent, slightly confused. When you finally caught up, you could feel your eyes widening in shock and your heart stopping for a moment.
"O-oh? You heard that?" You asked, flustered. You could feel your cheeks heating up in embarrassment. No one ever heard you sing, you didn't let anyone listen or at least hear you open your lips to hum a certain tune or even a melody.
His sweet chuckle from the other line made your cheeks grow redder. As if that wasn't already embarrassing enough. "Yeah I did. You have a beautiful voice. C'mon, you need to sing more often."
You nervously laughed and bit your lip. "Uhm..."
"It's the first time I heard you sing actually. C'mon, sing a tune."
You stopped yourself from smiling at his compliment. You weren't going to lie, that felt great. It felt good to somehow be appreciated for the small things that you felt quite shy about. However, you were still embarrassed from earlier so you said; "No. I don't..." you cleared your throat and eyed the horizon above, "I don't sing anymore so I'm quite, y'know, rusty... and bad. Really bad." You said the last sentence in a whisper.
Unfortunately for you, Hiro heard that. "Why? I think you have a good voice. It'd be a waste if you're not singing anymore."
You let out a sad laugh, the stars twinkling in the horizon also gave you the impression that they were laughing at you too. "Well, it's just... people used to laugh at me and stuff when I do sing so like... yeah."
Utter silence from the other line.
You waited for a moment, playing with the scarf around the neck of your ukulele before you looked back at your phone to see if the line was cut off or not. Strangely, it was still connected. So he just wasn't talking...
You raised a brow, confused. "Hiro?"
"Yeah? Oh sorry. Hold on, I'm just thinking of ways to hunt that someone down," he said with a grunt from the other line.
You cracked a genuine smile, something that you really can't manage especially after recalling such a sad memory that you kept at the back of your mind, never to be remembered. You giggled a bit at his statement and sighed. "Well, what more is there to do now? I mean, I still suck at it. And like, it still is traumatizing me at this point so..."
"Look, whatever you're thinking right now— stop. You have a good voice and I would die just to listen to that again."
You couldn't help the smile breaking onto your face, the heat climbing up your cheeks, and the tears that somehow found itself up to your eyes.
"Oh you," you said with a laugh, in an attempt to push down the tears from pouring out of your eyes.
"What? It's true. Now, who ever laughed at you for singing, well, I would like to have a little chat with them. Just... just a chat," you can hear the humor in his voice and you couldn't help but keep laughing at his silly remarks.
"Is this a tactic to get me to sing to you?" You asked him, tone playfully taunting.
He hummed from the other line, "No...? Well, I'm just trying to prove my point here. What do you have against that?" You could literally hear his smile from the way he said his statement.
You shook your head, although he couldn't see you. "Nothing. Just... trying to find out the intent behind these flattering words."
"Not a single ill intention," you could hear his chuckle, "I just wanted to give you the words that you needed to hear."
"Well, how kind of you," you said with a giggle, feigning formality like that of a princess. Hiro laughed from the other line. You then let silence fall between the both of you.
You eyed the moon above —  still on her full glory. You never know what is it with the moon and the way it does always give you the feeling of safety, but here you are — basking in the comfort of her dim light, listening to the insects in the distance, and laughing without a care in the world with your friend over the phone. You also have a feeling that Hiro was also peering out of his window, eyeing the moon. You wondered for a moment if he was feeling the same as you were at that very moment — at peace.
You can picture him perched on his window sill, phone in hand and probably doing something else whilst listening to you, like what he always does.
In the midst of the silence, he called out your name. You hummed in return, telling him that you were still there, listening.
"I'm sorry."
You blinked, confused. "For what?"
"For... for everything." You could hear the defeat in his voice from the other line.
You couldn't help the sad smile. Biting your lip, you ran through the things that you wanted to say to him. But since things already happened, and there was no turning back now, you only settled on; "There's nothing to be sorry about, Hiro—"
"Look, I know I messed up big time but I..." he took a pause, as if trying to regain his composure, "I just don't want to lose you." You sighed at his statement, but nonetheless, continued to wear that same smile that you would always give him as something to assure him. But at that moment, it seemed that the emotion was directed to you — you were assuring yourself.
"Well, it's okay." It's fine. You're okay. "And I'm still here Hiro," you assured him. But as you did so, your smile slowly began to lose its emotion. There were moments that you had to put yourself aside just so you wouldn't ruin things for the both of you. It was hard, yes. But... somehow, you were fine. You just had to gather whatever courage you had for yourself and silently fight the battles that you were left alone with.
"Yeah but I... I'm still sorry."
"It's okay. I don't blame you, okay? There's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Your feelings are valid. Always. Remember that, okay?"
"I..." somehow, you could hear him battle out his own demons just judging by the tone of his voice. And there it is again, you thought to yourself. At this point, you knew how to read him as if he was an open book. He was guilty. You took a deep breath and thought of whatever you can say to him that'll somehow put him at ease.
Somehow, despite the hurt that he gave you, you still found compassion for him. You wanted to hate him for what he did, but oddly, you can never find it in yourself to loathe him. You can never find it in yourself to be angry at him entirely. You care too much. You have no idea if that is a blessing or a curse. Nonetheless, you still found words to somehow put him at ease, and you're hoping it will give him peace.
"Hey, don't be too harsh on yourself. Things happen and you shouldn't beat yourself up for it. Don't worry about me, just focus on Megan, 'kay? I'm fine. Trust me. I'll be here when you need me."
"...okay." He sighed, defeated. You smiled at that. Then silence engulfed the both of you once again. Your fingers began to feel for the strings of your ukulele, then soon, the silence was then filled by the rich melody that your hands created, soothing the heavy ambiance that somehow wiggled its way between the both of you. Little by little, there was consistency in the chords that you played, and you found yourself being pulled into that little daze that carries you anywhere but the ground, only brought forth by music. But the melody was broken when he spoke once more from the other line, causing you to stop playing.
"Sing it."
You paused. "Hmm? Sing what?"
"That. That song. You should sing it."
You paused and bit your lip. But you nonetheless followed his request. Taking a deep breath, you opened your lips to start the first few lines of the song.
"And I don't smell you in my sheets. And I don't hear you in the hall. Without your cologne, your calls on the phone, I don't know you at all..." to begin with, you had no idea why you chose this song, but it just somehow explained your side...
When you were finally told that he was dating Megan... It felt so much like a slap in the face. Somehow, at the back of your mind you were expecting that. But you never really thought of how hard that might hit you when you were finally coming face-to-face with that fact.
"And I'm growing older, I know that we're over, the way we'd always have been. And then I see you... And I know you all over again." There was never a 'thing' between the both of you, but maybe... it was just because you were secretly hoping for more. But when the chapter has to finish, and the book is coming to a close, you have no choice but to stop writing the pages and bring it all to an end.
For you.
And for him.
For your peace, and for your happiness.
Because you deserve better. You deserve so much more.
This song... somehow became your closure. With each word that you sang, you could feel everything being left behind. As if all the events that unfolded became nothing but distant dreams of yesterday's escapades. Just remnants of silly conversations, and little decisions that led to actions that felt so much like a strange fever dream. And just as it always will be — nothing more than just... that.
You know to yourself that if you wanted more, you could always gain more. But it felt like this is all where it's headed. And thus, you'll let it go.
What a waste. But what is there to throw away wherein there was nothing to waste in the first place? Nothing fruitful grew out of it, and thus, nothing will be withered away. Not a single one.
And with the final chorus, you felt your heart ache from the bittersweet feeling that you got. "And then I see you... And I know you all over again."  It felt bittersweet, because it was like saying goodbye to a million what-ifs and what-could've-beens. But what are those worth when the outcome of letting it all go is the never ending peace that you longed for in what felt like a while?
"And then I see you... And I love you all over again."
With the final strumming rhythm and with the final hums of the strings of your instrument dissipated the chaos that you have been fighting with for months on end. With the final vibrations of the melody came the silence that welcomed the peace that calmed the storm that kept raging inside your heart for months. So, this is what it felt like before.
For the first time in months, you felt as if you could finally breathe. You let yourself take a deep breath, and you could've swore that it never felt so easy. As if millions of worries were suddenly lifted from your chest and it just felt so... freeing.
You thanked the moon, the stars, the universe, and the heavens. Because finally, the chapter has ended.
And that night, you finally slept soundly on your bed.
Yet little did you know, the final words that you sang left a footprint on Hiro's heart. A tear rolled down his cheek and he couldn't help but eye the moon and question; "Why?"

Like a legless lizard
- Request? No.
- BH6; the team & Masc! Amputee! Reader
- Warnings? None!
- Note; R is an amputee, or otherwise lacks legs due to them being compromised at some point of his life. So he has prosthetic legs. Oh did you know there is a lizard species that's often mistaken as a snake because it doesn't have legs? One of the only ways to differentiate it from actual snakes is the fact that they have eyelids like lizards u like snakes that are eye-lidless reptiles. :3
First off if you're already in the friend group you would have heard the Fred's comments about your legs being so fucking cool, and that he was lowkey jelly about them.
Him rattling your ears off, asking all kinds of questions about what all you can do; can you walk on walls, do they run into weapons, what about rollerbladed option, do you have boosters in them? Can you swim with them, can you walk on hot charcoal, can you fly etc etc.
I think the others would be a bit more mindful about it, but there would be the what if questions and if they would be possible to execute. Like the rollerblade question, you and Gogo most likely did try it out at some point.
Wasabi's questioning with his entire being about cleanliness most likely in a off handed comments, especially if you don't have any shoes on most of the time.
Honey lemon being her bubbly self making most likely sure to ask you about how you're doing mental and physical health vice. (She literally gives off mom friend energy to me in a lowkey way lol)
They can't really help you with phantom pains, but other accessability if you need a mobile aid for the day and need help with something you aren't able to do for the moment? You don't have to ask twice for anyone of them for help. It's definitely Fred who's sometimes being told off for trying to help when you didn't need some either by you or someone else in the group.
I think Wasabi and Honey lemon however are the worriers on the bad days. Fred in general doesn't seem to have the ability to always read the room so sometimes won't even notice, and Gogo's more watchful around you lol.
Also Honey lemon took to decorating at least one of them, with your permission of course.
Hiro coming along, he's most likely asking questions. Absolutely going to indulge in some of Fred's what if questions with you, I think Baymax would straight up be asking you extensive questions about your leg(s) or lack of them off. He'd properly end up downloading some files on it, if not asking you about the care and possible ways to help.

Oh God damnit, I'm now thinking about Amber and Karmi having a rivalry (not towards Hiro though, just the Big Hero 6 team) and through fanfic writing about BH6. Now Amber would think that self shipping with Irl people is terrible and stalker type and thinks she's way better than that, so she decided to make some of romance parts between Cedric and Obake despite Sofia's protest. Amber has also come up with new names for the team:
Tall Girl -> Miss Chemicals
Speed Queen -> Quick Demon
Chop Chop -> The Cleaver
Flamejump -> The Blue Flamethrower
The Red Knight -> The Red Knight
Captain Cutie -> Commander Helpful.
Even one of her fics writing was so good that the Theater Program of SFIA wanted her to direct their play of her Fanfic.

Tadashi Hamada- Fanfiction (Big Hiro 6)
Tumblr media
“Hamada!”
Tadashi's head turned just as the book hit him smack dab in the center of his forehead. He fell back comically, and you laugh out loud. When he picked himself off the ground, he glared at you.
“I forgot to say duck.”
He threw back the book, and you caught it easily. Tadashi huffed.
“I swear your reflexes are inhuman. “
“Or you’re just an old man.” You teased.
You round the table as he wheels his chair to his desk.
“Did Baymax have an issue?”
Tadashi shook his head.
“He works fine. I’m doing upgrades this month, so I’m making notes of some suggestions. “ He continues scribbling down on his paper. When he’s distracted, your eyes linger. You inhale, not enough for him to notice.
“He smells really good.”
You’ve known Tadashi for a little over a year. It felt much longer than that. The both of you had actually met on one of Hiro’s little stunts. More specifically, his participation in bot fighting. Ever since then you've been pretty good friends. You didn’t attend SFIT. You went to a more average university in the area. So whenever you had time, you would stop by. It was nice knowing a group of geniuses. It really paid off when exams rolled around.
Speaking of exams.
“Hey Tadashi, if you’re not too busy maybe you can help me study for Midterms this week.” He perks up.
“You’ve got midterms, why didn’t you say so! We can get started now.” You can’t help but smile. This guy was really one of a kind. You knew he couldn’t help it. He’d played the role of parent so long that now it was almost automatic.
“What should we start with first?” You ask, dropping your bag as you begin shuffling through.
“What is the hardest class you have?”
“Biology.”
“Then that’s what we’ll start with.”
So you grab the book, getting a few pencils to begin taking notes. Tadashi is a pretty good teacher. You slide a chair next to him, dropping your books on the desk. You pull your phone out of your pocket, eyes running over the time displayed on your lock screen.
“Good, I have a few hours.”
One less thing to worry about.
You flip the pencil over your finger a couple times as Tadashi looks at your notes and makes his own suggestion. At times you’d tune in and out. For the most part you’d catch what he was saying. You can’t help but keep a steady track on your phone though.
Tadashi takes notice.
“Are you alright? You’ve been checking your phone pretty frequently.” You blink.
“Uhh-yeah everything is fine.”
Tadashi’s eyes move to your phone.
“Is she waiting for a call from someone..”
He keeps his face as unreadable as possible.
“If you have other plans we can do this tomorrow.”
“Stupid, that’s not what you wanted to say.” He scolds himself.
“If I didn’t know any better I’d say you were trying to get rid of me Hamada. If you’re tired of me just say so.” You pout playfully, and he laughs.
“No more than usual.” He nudges you with his elbow, and you smile.
“I’m right where I need to be.” You clarify.
His eyes train on you for a moment, and his smile matches yours.
“Alright then, let’s get to it!”
“Yes sir!!”
The rest of the evening is about countless concepts and a few equations. For a moment you place your head on the desk. You just need a couple minutes of sleep, then you can head back to your dorm.
That was the plan.
“(Y/N), hey.” A soft voice lulls you awake. When you rub your eyes looking up, Tadashi is wearing a warm smile.
“I’m about to start packing up. I really didn’t want to wake you. Especially since you looked so comfortable. “
You turn your head. The first thing you catch is the sun lowering in the sky from his window. The fading light makes you shoot up in your seat.
“M-My phone!!”
Tadashi is holding it.
“It's right here, is something wrong?”
You looked panicked.
“My alarm!! I set an alarm, why didn’t you wake me up!!”
Tadashi is confused.
“Y-You looked tired so I figured I’d just let you sleep.”
You curse, and the second the light from the sun disappears, your knees buckle. Tadashi rushes to your side. You curl into a ball, breath staggered.
His first instinct is to run to Baymax to figure out why you’re in so much pain all of a sudden. You forced yourself to your feet, and you only made it to his couch. You try to rush out, but your steps aren’t very coordinated. You end up falling over the back of his chair.
“(Y/N)!!”
He runs to help you up, but instead of cries of pain, he now hears growling. It doesn’t sound human either. His steps slow.
“(Y/N)...”
Something jumps over the couch, and he’s pushed to the ground. Staring back at him is a white wolf. Teeth bared, eyes glowing. Tadashi’s breath catches. His heart is racing, and for a split second he really thinks this animal is about to tear him to pieces. But it looks at him. Like it’s gathering its wits. All at once its entire gait changes.
Those lifted ears fall back, and it almost whines. The eyes are no longer thin slits, but bigger gems. Those beautiful orbs glisten under the lighting of his lab, and the animal moves back. Tadashi is stunned. He’s not sure what to make of it. He could be hallucinating but he feels like he’s seen those eyes. He knows those eyes.
“(Y/N)...”
The wolf whimpers.
Tadashi hardly believes what he’s seeing. He stands, cautiously, eyes drifting to the spot over his couch where your body once was. All he sees is a pile of ripped clothing.
“It..really is you…”
How is this possible?
You turn tail and try to rush for the door, but Tadashi gives chase.
“W-Wait wait!!”
You run head first into the door, but it doesn’t give in.
“(Y/N) stop!!”
You fall back unto the ground in defeat, and Tadashi’s eyes fall on your form. You’re curled in a ball, hiding from him. Now it made sense. Casting his memory back he realizes that he’s never seen you past a certain hour on particular days. He’d never thought much of it.
You’re both college students. It’s not that strange. But that fear you’d shown when the sun went down. That must have been a trigger to whatever this is. You were different. It hurts him. Because it’s obvious that he was never meant to find out. He can’t hope to understand what having a secret like this must feel like.
“(Y/N).”
His call is so soft. He doesn’t want to make the wrong move or provoke you. You’re sitting in a corner. His steps are slow, and when he’s within reach, he swallows, reaching out slowly. His hand lands on the top of your head. He rubs it slowly, and he can see you physically relax. After a few moments, your head peeks out from under your paw.
He’s not sure why, but the action is cute to him.
“Can you understand me?”
Your round orbs shift to the wall, then back at him, flicking your tail.
“I’ll take that as a yes.”
He’s not sure what to ask first.
“Can you turn back?”
Your face buries back into your shoulder and he panics.
“Okay okay I get it! No, go on the turning back.” You huff heavily through your nose. Tadashi just rubs his neck.
“I guess I understand why you were so frantically looking at your phone. I’m sorry (Y/N). This wasn’t my secret to discover. “
Somehow he feels like he’s invaded your privacy. Your head raises slowly, and this time, you don’t look annoyed. You rise on your feet, and as you approach, Tadashi prepares for just about anything. You press your head to the side of his leg, and he can’t help but reach out. He pets you lightly, gaining an appreciative sound. Tadashi smiles.
“This is incredible..”
He would have liked to know beforehand that one of his best friends was apparently a wolf hybrid, but he guessed this is the second best thing. You keep moving back and forth, rubbing your head like a puppy starved of touch, and Tadashi willfully complies. Wolf or not, you were his friend.
“We might have to spend the night here. “ Your movement stops at those words. You tilt your head. He can see from your eyes that you’re displeased.
“Well I can’t exactly walk you out of here.”
You bark at him.
“I’ve got nothing, this is the best plan.” You turn your head at him.
“I can’t believe this. Even as a wolf you're a pain.”
You whack him with your tail, and he laughs.
“Better get comfortable.”
He grabs a blanket from the couch with a grin.
“When the morning comes, I’ll find something to hide you in. “
It would be much easier that way. With all the people bustling during the day. All he would need is a trolley to hide you under without suspicion. After that he could figure it out.
He had to.
~~~
The morning rolls around and Tadashi shifts on the air mattress he’d laid out on the floor. A body cuddled next to him isn’t surprising. He turns, hugging it closer. Realization seems to hit when he feels the warmth of skin rather than fur. He squints, running his hands along flesh. When his eyes open, the action seems simultaneous.
You both take in your position and surroundings. You clutch the blanket to your naked chest with a squeak, and Tadashi falls back, right off the bed. He grunts, then jumps up immediately.
“(Y-Y/N)!!”
It would seem that this transformation only last the night.
Your face was littered with color, and you were doing your best to cover as much as possible with the blanket. Tadashi spun around in the opposite direction.
“I-I’m sorry!! I didn’t know you changed back, I thought you were still..”
“It’s o-okay!”
You hide behind the couch, and Tadashi clears his throat. He moves to a small basket he has at the side of the room. Grabbing a  shirt and a pair of sweats, he turns it to your direction without looking back.
“H-Here. I always keep some extra clothes here. You can use it.” You take it hurriedly from his hands, and Tadashi begins moving to the door.
“I-I’ll give you a chance to change. “
He basically sprints out the door, closing it. All you can do is stare.
You know now that your relationship has changed drastically.
axtually scratch that last one. thats so out of charatcer for hiro hes a fuckign superhero for gods sake
another idea thiugh. what if:
reader was a massive tease. flustered hiro is my everythign
The first idea was alright but if you insist 😊
Hiro with an s/o who loves to tease him sm
Hiro doesn't like being teased.
He'll let it slide once or twice but never the third time.
So everytime you tease him, he teases back as much the next day.
Everytime you tease him about something, sometimes he'll make a remark and you two would go on with your days after that.
Sometimes it's for fun and sometimes is to mock him. But both of you didn't take it too seriously, even when Hiro gets mad over time.
Hiro would tease you back but that would happen only 4 times each day. And some days, it's just one or two.
You'd tease him about his nerdy side and he finds that adorable but irritating.
He even nicknamed you; "The Teaser" in his phone (with a heart).
But you'd stop if it ever rubs on Hiro in the wrong way, and you do not want a grumpy teenage boy who can make robots in days.
When you guys were 13, you were taller than Hiro so you tease him a lot about his height (which ended you with a gruff or a punch).
Even today, he had to do that to stop you.
But, since you guys are best friends/dating, it's harmless (the punching I mean)
He punches you on the arm or shoulder. Never the face. Never. Ever.
You'd give him nicknames, like, Soda Pop or Gummy bear kid.
His favorite nickname was Robotic smartass.
For some reason.
And not everyone likes a teaser. Hiro on the other hand, got used to your teasing and teases you back.
I guess you're rubbing up on him.
"Okay, Robotic Smartass." You said to him whilst you guys are in the garage, working on your project together because Professor Granville put you guys as partners.
"Yeah like a volcano has got anything to do with robot engineering." Hiro says sarcastically while holding up your guys' volcano. Which literally reacts like the real one.
"But this one is engineered by a robotic major." You grinned back and he sigh out of annoyance.
You just laugh in response and smiled at him while he stares at you with a deadpan expression.
I do take requests, and please do. I want to keep this fandom alive and thriving 😭. Also, you know how like a lot of older movies get their very random big break later on. Like the Harry Potter series become very randomly popular among all different people and not just those perceived as “book worms”. I’m praying on HOT GRAVEL that Big Hero 6 gets that break because it be mad lonely in here.
a/n: @uwukiity :))) i did it. also i changed the gif guys ! isnt it cute ??? hope u all enjoy this lolololol
“Awww, is our little barista feeling all better now?”
“Shut up before you have to make your own coffee, Hamada,” You snort, handing him his usual order. Hiro inhales deeply, taking a small sip of the piping hot latte you’d just made at his request.
His nose wrinkles, looking up as he swirls the liquid in his mouth. His lips purse, trying to place the flavour. “Is that cinnamon?”
“Yeap,” You answer, popping the ‘p’ as you clean the milk frother. “Is it good?”
“It’s enh,” He shrugs, propping his elbows up on the counter as he leans against it and watches you clean.
“And?” You prompt, awaiting a more elaborately put review.
“It’s decent.”
You plop the cloth down, stopping to stand right in front of him across the counter. “And?”
“And what?”
It’s clear that he’s just messing with you now, judging from the little quirk in the corner of his lips as he suppresses his smirk. Taking a deep breath to calm yourself, you reevaluate your options. You’d have asked Tadashi to taste-test your coffees and experiments, but he’s constantly at SFIT. Cass was more than ready to try them, but she was already constantly busy running the cafe that you didn’t want to pile on more to her plate.
As such, that only left you with Hiro.
“Is it too sweet? Too sour? Does it mask any bitterness or draw it out?”
He takes another long, drawn-out sip, smacking his lips together obnoxiously. “Kinda sweet, but I guess it’s okay. It could do with some more cinnamon to help bring out the fruitiness of the beans more.”
You grin, leaning back. “Thank you, my beloved guinea pig.”
“Anytime, psycho.” He says simply before continuing to sip away at his first coffee of the day. He’d been coming down more often lately, but it was usually in the afternoons. So, mornings like these were rare.
“What’s got you up so early, anyway?” You ask, taking out the dishes and placing them where you’d be able to grab them conveniently when a customer ordered any of the pastries in the display case.
He shrugs. “Wanted to get an early start to the day.”
“Cool,” You toss a damp cloth at him, watching him scramble to catch it without letting it fall into his cup, “help me wipe down the tables.”
“You know, I’m technically your boss too.” He informs you but still does it anyway.
“Tell me that when you give me my paycheck,” You snort, opening the fridge to check on the cans of whipped cream and mentally counting them for the stock take. Once you've confirmed that all your things are there, you begin to make yourself a coffee.
“Just you wait,” He comes back to the counter with his cloth and the spray bottle filled with cleaning liquid, placing them both away. “I’ll tattle to Cass.”
“Snitch. You can try, though I doubt she’ll do anything about it. She loves me too much,” You reply over the hiss of the milk frother. Kneeling down to grab a canister of whipped cream from the fridge, you shake it and start placing some on top of your hot coffee. You can feel his eyes on you, looking back up with a raised brow.
“What?”
“Are you seriously putting whipped cream on your cappuccino?” He says in disbelief.
“Yeah,” You hum, taking a swing and letting a contented sigh slip past your lips.
“But it’s already like, 70 percent milk.”
“And gummy bears are like, 100% pure sugar. So, you’re just eating spoonfuls of sugar. What’s your point?” He’s stumped for an answer, knitted brows and pursed lips trying to find a retort.
“I don’t like you,” He sighs in defeat, frowning as he takes a final sip from his cup and hands it to you expectantly. “More.”
You don’t take it, crossing your arms with raised brows as you wait patiently. He rolls his eyes. “Please?”
Grinning, you grab his cup and pour freshly brewed black coffee inside it. Five sugars and one creamer, that’s how he likes it. “You should really consider why you don’t have a social life.”
“I have friends,” He says defensively, “And says you.”
“Where?” You ignore the second part of his sentence, placing his cup back down on the counter.
“...I dunno- look, I haven’t spoken to them in a while.” He says tightly, his lips pressed together in a thin line as he stares at his coffee.
“Mine are pretty chill,” You hum, making the decision to change the topic. “I think you’d like Noah, though.” The thought of the two together makes you chuckle. Noah, whose carefree and easygoing nature with Hiro who’s incredibly reckless and irresponsible.
“Who’s that?” Hiro asks curiously, intrigued by the mention of a new name.
“He’s the other barista I worked with at my old job. He’s great and helped me a lot when I first came here,” You say with a fond smile, the both of you moving to sit down at an empty table.
“Oh?”
“Shut it, he’s like 19 with a girlfriend. I’m still surprised he even managed to ask her out.” You snort, sitting down opposite him and holding the coffee, letting the heat spread through the ceramic and warm your hands.
“I could have a girlfriend,” Hiro muses, looking offended at the way you choke visibly on your drink.
“You?” You splutter incredulously, coughing violently as the coffee makes its way down the wrong pipe and burning your insides in the process. You glance up through teary eyes, seeing him smile at your current state as he enjoys watching you suffer. Once the violent coughs end, you clear your throat, pretending that nothing happened.
“Aren’t you gonna get back to your work?” You question, glancing at the clock and realising it’s almost time to open the cafe. “Shoo,” You add, dismissing him with a quick wave. He shrugs, hopping off the seat and heading to the basin. You follow suit, wanting to quickly wash your cups so that you can give the table a quick wipe and unlock the door.
You stare at his outstretched hand, looking back up at him curiously. He rolls his eyes, already having pushed up the sleeves of his hoodie to wash his cup. “Your mug, silly.”
You hand it to him with a bright grin, calling out a quick thanks as you leave to do your tasks. The sign on the door is the only thing left, and you take a moment to breathe, staring at the word ‘Open’ before you turn it so it faces the front.
“What are we waiting for?” You flinch, surprised by Hiro’s sudden appearance. His sleeves are back down to his wrists, his hands shoved into his pockets as he waits for a response.
“Nothing.” You clear your throat, quickly flipping the sign over and unlocking the door. You turn back around, about to ask him another question when you spot the back of his blue hoodie heading back up the stairs. Oh well. Looks like whatever put him in such a good mood this morning finally wore off.
The phone rings in the middle of your shift, vibrating strongly in the pocket of your apron as you hold the milk frother in place, narrowly avoiding a cloud of hot steam as you adjust your stance. You place it on the counter, checking the notifications to see a message from your brother.
Hiro catches you giggling when he rounds the corner of the counter, placing an empty cup in front of you. You put your phone away hastily, grabbing his cup and pouring some black coffee from the jug Cass kept aside for Hiro. He eyes the phone in your apron pocket suspiciously, taking the cup back from you and taking a sip. “What’s so funny?”
“Huh?” You’re momentarily confused, but you realise what he’s referring to upon following his gaze to your apron pocket. “It’s nothing, just a stupid picture Luke sent me.” The reminder makes you chuckle again, a bright grin on your lips.
“Hm.” He doesn’t say anything, taking another long sip and smacking his lips together, proceeding to chug the rest down. “What’d he send you?” He asks casually, eyeing the coffee stains on the inner rim of his mug.
“I told you, a stupid picture.” You roll your eyes in amusement, leaning on the counter as you watch Hiro clear his throat, spotting the tips of his ears slowly flushing a soft pink. What a nerd.
“I wanna see it.” He waits expectantly, and you oblige his request, regardless of how sudden it is. You open your conversation with him, clicking on the picture and turning the phone around so he can see it. He leans in, not noticing that his hoodie strings are nearly in his own empty mug. You react, grabbing the string and moving it aside.
Hiro blinks. “What is this?”
“Told you it’s stupid.” You laugh at the picture of a forklift holding a tiny plastic fork, turning off your phone again after indulging his curiosity.
“Who’s Luke, anyway? Your boyfriend? Can’t be. You’re too old.” He snorts in amusement, smiling smugly when your smile drops, eyes narrowing into a glare.
“We’re the same age.”
He shrugs. “Yeah, but you’re an old soul at heart, so, doesn’t count.” You roll your eyes. You’re not getting anywhere with this idiot. “Another coffee?”
“You have a serious problem,” You mutter, filling his cup with pure milk. “Here, for the growing boy.”
“I will have you know I’m almost 5 '5,” He says defensively. “It’s just taking a little time to set in.” You knew better. Tadashi had revealed in casual conversation that Hiro’s only 5’0. Oh well, it’s too early to crush the boy’s dreams.
“Yeah, maybe when you’re 25.” Your muffled chuckles attract the attention of Cass, who looks over with a curious smile from the cafe table a short distance away. Hiro scoffs, taking his cup and chugging down all of it defiantly, slamming it back down.
“Wash it and bring it back to me afterwards.” He amends his sentence when you raise a disbelieving brow, using a fingertip to push it aside. “I mean, please wash it and put it aside, I’ll come back later to collect it.”
“That’s more like it.” You wink, taking the cup and setting it down in the basin to wash with the rest of the other dishes.
“Still technically your boss!” He calls out as he leaves. You ignore it, starting on the rest of the dishes.
You continue stacking the plates, putting them away in their respective places when you hear something being set on the countertop.
“Hey sweetie, are you feeling better?”
You smile at Cass, standing back up. “I’m fine, don’t worry. It’s gonna take more than that to knock me off my feet.” To prove your point, you flex your arm cheekily. “Built like an al-dente noodle, as my mom once said.”
A delightful laugh bubbles from her lips, your (actual) boss thoroughly amused. “If you say so. Just in case though, maybe you should rest up tomorrow.”
“I’ll be fine!” Cass tuts, effectively cutting you off with a purse of her lips. “Boooo,” You complain jokingly. “But isn’t there anything else I can do?”
She pauses, a hand on her chin as she thinks of a task to assign you. She smiles slowly, a slight chill running down your back. You didn’t like that smile. Not one bit. “On second thought, maybe I will take that day off…”
Cass hums mischievously. “Actually, the cafe isn’t that busy today, so I can handle it. Instead, I need you to drag Hiro out for some exercise. He’s been cooped up in his room or the garage. It’s like he doesn’t even know what sunlight is!”
A chime sounds through the cafe, drawing your attention to another customer who’s just left. It’s currently the late afternoon, and there were just a few customers in their respective seats. All the dishes are washed and kept, and Hiro’s mug sits cosily in the corner beside the cash register.
If there’s anything you’ve learnt from working in cafes, it’s that times like these signal maximum boredom. You look at Cass who’s waiting patiently for an answer, grinning slyly. “All I have to do is get him out to exercise, right?”
She nods.
That’s all you have to do, but she didn’t say how.
“I’m in.”
— — — — —
“C’mon Einstein, let’s go touch some grass!” You exclaim, happily slamming open the door to Hiro and Tadashi’s shared bedroom. The curtains are drawn shut on Hiro’s side of the room, a small desk lamp lighting the piles of discarded blueprints on the floor. The boy himself is sitting cross-legged on his chair, a single headlamp on his forehead as he frowns at the notepad he’s sketching on.
“That’s you, Hiro,” Tadashi calls out as he puts on his cap.
“Where’re you heading off to?” You ask, noting how his side of the room drastically contrasted with Hiro’s. Sunlight spills past the window, dimming whatever items it can reach with a soft glow. The bed is neatly made, not a single speck of dust on any piece of furniture.
“I gotta go back to the lab.” He answers cheerfully, ruffling your hair with a grin. “Have fun, kids!” He calls out behind him as he leaves. Hiro stirs at the sound of his brother’s voice, turning around. His gaze lands on you, and he arches an unimpressed brow.
“Is Einstein the worst you could come up with?”
“What dentist died and made you their heir?” You counter. He pauses for a beat, mulling over your words. He gives you an acknowledging nod, swivelling his seat back around to focus on his work. You take a tentative step forward, avoiding the scattered cans of Red Bull and stray packets of gummy bears that litter the floor.
“Forget about Einstein, I think he lived somewhere better than this pigsty,” You mutter under your breath, freezing when Hiro clears his throat.
“I heard that.”
“No, you didn’t.”
He shrugs, turning his attention back to his notepad. Upon closer inspection, you notice the corkboard perched against the wall, various tools spread across it. A stack of rewired motherboards and circuits remains unfinished beside it. Below his desk is a mini fridge that once you open, reveals a tooth-rotting amount of gummy bears, along with chewing gum and more energy drinks.
He has everything he needs to stay alive and functioning in his room. With a side of a potential heart attack, of course. This realisation makes you scan his desk, hopefully looking for a way to drag him outside. Something catches your eye and you lean closer, staring at a bot with a yellow smiley face.
You lift it up, inspecting every inch of it with intrigue. “Tell me this is your first-grade project without telling me this is your first-grade project.”
“Believe it or not, my project was a volcano.” He says, briefly glancing at the bot in your hands before continuing to write out formulas anywhere with empty space on his paper. “A solar-powered volcano. Had miniature animals and everything.”
“Huh. Did you get first place?” You ask, feigning disinterest, though you were very much invested in this never-before-heard childhood backstory of his.
“Yeah.” Somehow, the memory is enough to break him out of his trance. He grins. “The volcano worked a little too well. I still remember the looks on everyone’s faces when it caught on fire.”
“Y’know what, that actually increased my respect for you by a margin.” You say, unable to hide your impressed smile. “Then when did you make this one?”
He chuckles, finally setting down his notepad and taking it from your hands with a fond smile. “Like, two years ago? Megabot won me loads of bot fights.” You hum in thought, a seed of an idea growing in your mind and further watered by mischievousness.
“Guess I should take him for a spin then.”
“Wha-?”
Hiro doesn’t get a moment to react when you snatch the bot out of his hands and run out the door with a maniacal laugh. You can hear him chasing after you, footsteps thudding down the stairs. You put on your shoes with record speed, racing out the door.
“What’re you-”
“Gotcha.” You grin widely, taking a step forward to hand Megabot back to a panting Hiro. He takes it from you with flushed cheeks, trying to catch his breath after being forced to do unexpected exercise. “We’re going for a walk.”
“I can’t, I gotta get back to-”
You grab the hood of his hoodie, effectively stopping him from heading back inside his house. “And how long have you been stuck?” You ask, prompting an annoyed huff from him. He crosses his arms sulkily, Megabot dangling from his grip.
“If I’m doing this, I want ice cream.”
— — — — —
People tend to think that taking a walk is simple enough. After all, it’s just moving your legs one step at a time. The cool breeze, the warm sunlight, and even the bustle of the city are more than enough to stimulate their senses. Everyone’s happy and cheerful, socialising and being comfortable with themselves.
Clearly, these people have never had the pleasure of dragging Hiro Hamada outside.
“My ice cream is mine.” Hiro scoffs, swatting away your outstretched hand. You frown, drawing it back. “You wouldn’t have to deal with this if you just let me do my work, y’know.”
“I do know, thank you very much,” You sigh, scowling when he suddenly turns to look back and you withdraw your hand once more at the missed opportunity to get some of his ice cream. “I’m already regretting it.”
“Hey, you’re the one that decided to go all saviour on me.” He shrugs, using his spoon to scoop a large amount of ice cream from his cup, pointing it at you accusingly. “Can’t blame me for wanting a treat.”
“Wow. You’re really gonna use my hard-earned money on yourself.” You drawl monotonously.
He pauses with the spoon in his mouth, pondering in deep thought. “Yes.”
“You suck.”
He merely smiles, raising a brow at your finished gelato. “I thought you were lactose intolerant.”
“I eat what I want,” You reply defensively, watching him scoff down the rest of his ice cream in one go. He winces soon after, holding the sides of his head with eyes squeezed shut. “Brain freeze?”
He confirms it with a nod, and you wait patiently for it to be over. Once it is, he stands back up to throw away his cup and yours, waiting for you at the exit. The door jingles shut behind you, the bustling city greeting your ears once more.
You’re tugged to the side from a sudden grip on your arm, looking up with a scowl before realising that Hiro just saved you from being knocked flat on the sidewalk by a skateboarder. “Thanks,” You say gratefully, jogging to catch up with him. He simply shrugs, dismissing his good deed as nothing more than a passing action.
You force him to follow you to the park, taking a stroll around and waving to the little animals that either bark, meow, or caw back at you. Luckily, he hadn’t complained as much after the gelato. Otherwise, you’d be at each other’s necks by now.
“So, how’s your project coming along?”
It seems to be one of the few consistent questions you ask him these days, and for good reason too. Having the pressure of an older brother and his friends all in the same nerd school isn’t something most can shoulder on their own. You eye the way his shoulders sag when he exhales, sudden tiredness in his eyes. Yet, there’s a spark of determination, and stubbornness that refuses to let anything get in the way of his goal.
“It’s going good,” He hums, pulling out his phone and showing you a picture of various mathematical equations and nonsensical handwriting on what appears to be his tablet hooked up to his monitor. “Pretty sick, right? I’ve got all the backend stuff down, and I just need to keep testing and prototyping now for the neurotransmitter.”
“Right,” You say encouragingly, though the hesitance in your voice gives away how clueless you are about all this. Sure, you’ve done your fair share of research on your own, but it’s only surface-level. Who knows what’s going on in that head of his.
He raises a brow, pocketing his phone. “What about you?”
“I’m working on this article about this new policy my school got put in place,” you grimace, “it’s mainly about how the administrators want the campus to be more ‘green’ and environmentally friendly.”
“Huh.” He brushes off a leaf that lands on his shoulder, watching it slowly fall to the ground. “You don’t seem too excited about that.” He remarks offhandedly, observing your every movement.
“That’s because the actions they’re taking are ridiculous.” You explain with a roll of your eyes. “They’ve implemented bathroom break limitations, printers aren’t allowed to be used unless a teacher gives explicit consent…Sometimes a girl’s just gotta pee, y’know?”
“Well, what do the other students have to say about it?”
You huff out a frustrated sigh. “No one’s happy about it, obviously.”
“Then use that,” He states simply, “you’re a journalist, aren’t you? The voices of the people have to be heard. Get their opinions on the changes, and with a voice that loud? The faculty won’t be able to just brush it aside.”
Your steps slow to a halt, pursing your lips in thought as you consider the idea he’s just presented to you as simply as saying the sky is blue. He’s right, of course, but why didn’t you think of that before?
The student council will never let it pass. But it couldn’t hurt to try….right?
The phone in your pocket vibrates with a new notification. You groan, reading the text that Leo, your fellow aspiring journalist in the same club just sent you. Hiro looks at you curiously, having heard your sigh as you hang your head. “Speak of the devil. I gotta go.”
“Gone so soon?”
“Don’t tell me you’ll miss me, Hamada,” You joke, grinning at the way he sticks out his tongue in playful disgust. “That article I told you about? The deadline just moved up to tomorrow.”
He snorts, chuckling in pure amusement as you begin to walk faster. “Good luck!” He calls out to your retreating back.
You wave a dismissive hand without looking back.
