KOREAN DRAMA TV SERIES: ALCHEMY OF SOULS (2022) Currently watching this Korean drama fantasy TV series on Netflix.  It's very interesting.  It's all about soul shifters.  "Soul shifting" is called "hwanhonsool", which means the soul of the dead return to the living. The two main characters in this mystical mythical tale are: (1)  Naksu, a powerful sorceress and a skilled assassin.  She was was being chased by others who wanted to kill her because ... after all she was a skill assassin and she was taking out quite a few people.  She was wounded and had to look for another body so she shifted her soul into the body of sickly blind girl named Mu-deok. OK!   Rule 1 about soul shifting:  You should probably pick somebody with a strong healthy body who can see!  Otherwise, you might be able to do all of those things fantastic amazing things you used to be able to do when you were you! Naksu/Mu-deok is played by Jung So-min. (2) Jang Uk, the son of a ... ???   The question marks are because he does not know who his father is.  All of his life, the man he believed was his father, turned out not to be his father.  I immediately feel very sorry for an innocent who is born into this world through an act of malice or something sinister and have to suffer while growing up, not knowing or understanding why people treat them "a certain way".  He has to learn the secret, i.e. what is his true identity? Jang Uk is played by Lee Jae-wook. Jang Uk and Mu-deok crossed paths because she is sent to work at a Gisaeng establishment.  (NOTE:  Per Wikipediaa "Gisaeng (Hangul: 기생, Hanja: 妓生, RR: Gisaeng), also called ginyeo (Hangul: 기녀, Hanja: 妓女), were women from outcast or slave families who were trained to be courtesans, providing artistic entertainment and conversation to men of upper class.") Of course she does not want to work there so she immediately tries to escape and runs into a room where Jang Uk has come to have dinner.  He recognizes instantly that she is no common ordinary blind girl because there is something about her eyes.  He wants to strike up with a relationship with her but all she wants to do is get away from him and everybody else.  You see in the process of shifting souls she not only lost her powers as a sorceress, but she lost her sword that she used as an assassin. Long story short, Jang Uk promises to help Naksu/Mu-deok get her sword back if she will become his master and teach him spells.  He had already been a student of several masters and none of them would teach him because that was the specific instruction given by the man whom he thought was his father.  That man, Jang Kang, who was the only father Jang Uk knew, was a man of influence and power.  He was a mage and in the fictional   country called Daeho, a mage is a master and what he says COUNTS!  So nobody would go against him, even if he wasn't there to see to it that his order was enforced.  Of course, Naksu/Mu-deok, since it was her mission to kill all of the mages and their descendants, because she blamed them for the death of her family, could care less about that instructions.  She also didn't really care what happened to Jang Uk.   She just agreed to the master/pupil relationship so she could get her sword and her powers back! That's how their relationship began.  He was trusting and naive, and believed she would act according to their agreement and they would be loyal to each other. She, on the other hand, has other plans and Jang Uk was just going to get in the way of her accomplishing her main goal.  So!  She says "Yes!" but what she really meant "Yeah!  Whatever!" The combination of the special effects and the cinematography create magical and memorable scenes. All of the other supporting characters in "Alchemy of Souls" do a mighty fine acting job .   ~ There are the mages, the heads of families, four of them who have the power to harness the lake's energy and to help maintain the balance of their world.  The mages have to master various levels or power and control of the elemenst and these stages are known as Jipsu, Ryusu, Chisu, and Hwansu.  They must be able to properly perform their duties because if they don't maintain order, the soul-shifters who run wild can cause chaos, damage and destruction.  They know this because it already happened once and they are determined to no let it happen again. ~ Then there are the "Four Seasons" who are the children of the mages.   They have special powers too!  After all, they have to carry on in the footsteps of their parents.  Jang Uk is one of the Four Seasons. ~ There is also a king, queen, and a crown prince, plus a bastard son of one of the mages who is greedy and ambitious and has wicked people who work for him. ~ Finally, there is Master Lee who drinks chaste tea; and that's all I'm going to say about him. The sub-stories of all of these characters are intricately woven around the main storyline which develops the relationship and growth of Naksu/Mu-deok and Jang Uk. ** What will be their fate?

“Okay, how do I look?” YinYin spun away from the mirror.

Hendery gave her a thumbs up. “You look gorgeous.”

“Yeah?” She smoothed out her skirt, checking the time again. She still had five minutes before Jungkook would be here. “It’s not too much?”

“It’s perfect.” Kun reassured her. “Hendery’s right, you look amazing?”

YinYin smiled at her reflection. “I do, don’t I?”

After Jungkook had asked her out earlier in the day, she’d returned home and decided that instead of coming up with an excuse, she should come clean to the boys. She hadn’t told them who it was, but if it went anywhere, she would. They’d taken it remarkably well, and had helped her pick out her dress and do her hair for the date.

“Lucas, stop glaring at me.” She didn’t even have to look to know it was true.

The boy frowned and crossed his arms. “I just don’t like that we’re just hearing about this.”

“I told you as soon as he asked me out, what more do you want?” She scoffed at him. “But I look cute, right?”

He shrugged. “Cute enough.”

“Good. I think I should still-” Her phone buzzed.

She glanced down at it. “He’s here.” She quickly grabbed her jacket, purse and mask, pulling them on quickly.

“Yin.” WinWin cautioned. “Slow down. He’s not going to drive off.”

“Besides, you shouldn’t look to eager.” YangYang advised. “Play hard to get.”

“Right.” She took a deep breath. “Hard to get.” She reached for the door knob.

“And remember-” Ten told her. “You’re out of his league.”

She gave him a small smile. “Thanks.” She took another deep breath and smiled brightly. “Okay, that’s it then. Don’t wait up.”

“Don’t stay out too late!” Lucas countered, but she was already hurrying out of the apartment and down the stairs.

She pulled her jacket over her shoulders, slowing her pace as she stepped out onto the street. It was easy to spot Jungkook’s car, as it was easily the nicest car on the street. His door opened as she walked over, and he stepped out.

“You should stay in the car.” She hissed. “What if someone sees you?”

“Hat and mask.” He winked. “I have to get the door for you.”

YinYin wished she was wearing her own mask, because she was certain a blush stained her cheeks as Jungkook walked around the car and held open the passenger door for her. She slid onto the leather seat, adjusting her skirt around her legs. Jungkook sat back in the driver’s seat, pulling off his mask and hat. The windows were tinted, so they didn’t have anything to worry about.

“Hi.” He breathed, a dorky grin on his face.

“Hi yourself.” YinYin smiled. “Long time no see.”

“It felt like a long time.” He laughed, starting the car and pulling away from the curb. “You look....you look really pretty.”

YinYin glanced down at her outfit. She was wearing a simple maroon skater dress, with black heels and white socks. Her hair was down, curled slightly with some of it pulled away from her face and tied in the back. “Better than the sweat from this morning?”

“I liked that too.” He blinked. “I didn’t...I mean....”

“It’s fine.” YinYin laughed. “So...where are we going?”

“The movies.” He answered. “We’ll eat there, if that’s okay?”

“Of course it is.” YinYin nodded. “What movie will we-”

Her phone buzzed and she checked it quickly.

Yukhei: Who the hell are you dating that car was amazing??????

Yinnie: None of your business, now buzz off.

Jungkook glanced at her. “You told them?”

“Not who, just that I was dating.” She answered. “And you? You told them?”

“Well, the boys all know.” He swallowed. “They know who you are too.”

“And Sumi?” YinYin asked.

Jungkook’s hands tightened on the steering wheel. “I’m just....waiting for the right moment.”

YinYin glanced at his hands, at the tiny hanja character and flower near the pinky finger of his right hand, spelling out Sumi’s name, and decided not to argue. She didn’t know Sumi that well, and she wasn’t involved enough with Jungkook to butt in on their personal issues.

“What movie are we going to see?” She asked finally.

“Um...we can pick....there’s a Japanese horror movie and then there’s a rom com that I-”

“I like horror movies.” Yinnie grinned. “Is it the one with the key that they find in the cremation urn? I saw the trailer for that and it looked amazing.”

“Yeah, it is.” Jungkook smiled. “Good, I’m glad you’ll like it. And...we’re here.”

He pulled into a parking garage, and YinYin pulled on her mask, adjusting it to be sure her face was covered. As excited as she was for a movie, she wasn’t really looking forward to wearing her mask for the next few hours. If it was just her, it wouldn’t be that big of a deal, but there was no one in the city who wouldn’t recognize Jungkook’s face.

Jungkook pulled up in front of a booth, and someone opened YinYin’s door.

“Thanks.” She muttered, stepping out and past the valet. Turning to wait for Jungkook. He tossed the keys to the vallet, grabbing his own jacket and pulling his own mask and hat back on.

“Right this way, sir.” Another employee, who YinYin hadn’t seen, motioned towards a door.

Jungkook grabbed YinYin’s hand, pulling her along with him as they followed the employee through the door and up some stairs.

“They knew we were coming?” She whispered.

“I called ahead.” He answered. “I thought it would be easier.”

“Don’t we need to buy tickets?” YinYin asked. “And pick up some food?”

“Um...after we get in there.” He squeezed her hand.

YinYin was very thankful she was wearing a mask.

The employee led them out into what YinYin recognized  as the back corner of the movie theatre. He led them towards a theatre door, which had a red rope strung across it. It was unclipped and held out of the way for them.

“Isn’t there a movie in progress?” YinYin pointed towards the rope. “Should we-”

“It’s alright, ma’am.” The employee told her, before turning his attention to Jungkook. “I’ll let you two get settled.”

“Thanks.” Jungkook led her into the theatre.

“What is going on?” YinYin asked. “Aren’t there people who are -” She stopped in her tracks as they turned the corner and she took in the theatre.

It was one of the nice ones, which couches and cushy chairs instead of standard theatre chairs. And it was completely empty, except for one couch set up with a bucket of ice right in the middle.

“Is this okay?” Jungkook asked nervously. “I thought it would be a lot but Jimin said you’d like it if we didn’t have to wear masks but this is probably really weird and I-”

“It’s amazing.” YinYin grinned, yanking down her mask so he could see how happy she was. “How did you do this?”

“I just...called.” He blinked, pulling his own mask down. “You really like it?”

“I love it.” YinYin promised, dropping his hand so she could hurry up the stairs to their couch. It looked comfortable as heck and had footrests, and she leaned to inspect the bucket of ice, pulling out a bottle.

“Huh?” She examined it.”This is full of juice.”

“Yeah,” Jungkook came up behind her, rubbing the back of his neck nervously. “I didn’t know if you drank alcohol and you didn’t seem like a sugary drinks type of person, so I thought I’d get this.”

“Wow,” YinYin breathed. “BTS really is on a different level.”

Jungkook scoffed, dropping onto the couch. “You like it then?”

Yinnie shook a bottle of kiwi spinach juice. “This one’s my favourite.”

“Good.” He patted the seat next to him, and she sat down, shrugging off her coat and placing her purse on the floor. “And food is coming soon.”

“Amazing. I love food.” She grinned, kicking off her shoes and pulling her feet up onto the couch. “This is the best date I’ve ever been on.”

Jungkook’s mouth dropped open. “How many dates have you been on?”

“That’s for me to know, and you to find out.” At his shocked expression, she laughed. “I’m kidding. This is the first. And you’re setting a very high bar.”

“I’ll just have to keep raising it then.” He smiled.

YinYin leaned her head against the couch, but so it was close to his shoulder. She thought she saw him shake a little bit. “Are you implying there are going to be more dates?”

“Don’t get cocky, it depends how this one goes.” He smirked.

YinYin pouted. “I don’t think I like it when you tease me back.”

“Yeah, well get used to it.” He laughed. “And for the record, I think the food is some sort of chicken thing. Probably fried. I know it isn’t the most healthy, but it was the best they had.”

“Even I don’t turn my nose up at fried chicken.” She looked around, taking in all of the abandoned couches, and then glanced up at the projection booth, which was dark. “We have this whole place to ourselves, huh?”

“Yeah. I hope it doesn’t make you uncomfortable because I’m not trying to-”

Yinnie leaned across the couch and pressed her lips to his. He leaned in instantly, his lips moving against hers. She lifted a hand to his hair, and felt his arms travel down her waist. When she finally pulled back, he looked out of breath.

“What....what was that about?” Jungkook said. 

Yinnie tilted her head, suddenly aware that his arm was around her shoulder. “Make you uncomfortable?”

“Not at all.” He rubbed her shoulder. “But seriously....you do that on all your dates?”

“I told you, first one.” YinYin smiled, leaning back into his arm. “And since you’ve done such a stellar job so far, I thought you deserved that.”

“The date isn’t even over yet, what’ll I get at the end.” His eyes widened. “I didn’t mean for that to sound so bad.”

“It’s fine.” YinYin laughed. “And I guess you’ll just have to wait and see.”

He looked to the ceiling, like he was hoping it would tell him what to say next.

“Guanyin....” He shook his head. “If this date goes well, do you think we could....”

“What, go on another date?”

“I was going to say be official.” He smiled. “Because I don’t know if you can tell, but I’m crazy about you.”

“You did make that pretty obvious.” She smiled back at him. “But that’s okay, because I’m crazy about you too.”

“Thank god, because that would’ve been really embarrassing.” He grinned at her. 

“Your food.” The employee appeared with a tray.

YinYin’s instinct was to jump away from Jungkook. They were recognizable, and if someone realized that he was dating who knew what would happen. He was one of the biggest-

Jungkook just squeezed her shoulder. “See, I told you food was coming.”

Yinnie shook her head and scoffed. “This is like a drama, or something.”

“The good kind, I hope.”

“Ma’am, would you like to see a dessert menu so we can have it ready for you?” The employee held out a menu card.

YinYin took it with two fingers. “Don’t mind if I do.”

“I thought you ate healthy.” Jungkook poked her in the side teasingly.

She stuck her tongue at him. “Best date ever, remember? I’m treating myself.”

Aisha: But there's a slight hitch. The first generation El Stars - Masters Team was supposed to plan the commercials for us, but the leader of that team - Denif senpai was unavailable, so the concept for the commercial couldn't be decided in time.

T/N: So Gaia's idea is full of puns using hanja (chinese characters, same as kanji for japanese) and make up weird pseudo Four Character Chinese Proverb bullshit and they spell out some-what similar keywords pertaining to each character.

This is absolutely terrible to translate and I'll be adding a ton of translator's notes for each character. This is also reason why I didn't want to translate this video HAHA okay back to business

T/N: Ara's is "奧義阿羅" which spells out "Oi Ara"?? 奧義 is the different arts that Ara classes use (you know the 2 different versions each class has), and 阿羅 is just a gibberish trying to phonetically spell out Ara's name. 奧義 is "Ougi" in Japanese, usually written out before some cool sounding skill name [like Samurai Shodown Haohmaru's skill Ougi Senpuu Retsu Zan (Secret Skill Whirlwind Rending Slash)] and they're usually translated as Secret Technique/Skill or Ultimate Technique/Skill. The character (hanja/kanji) themselves mean "deep understanding" - so these martial artists lingo use it as a way to describe a skill/technique that you only get to learn when you've fully mastered the arts.
